James Braxton has inherited the Kingdom of Ardeal. Congratulations? Well, he has been named the heir to the throne despite the fact that he was born and raised in America. His new home will be a great castle that looks like something out of a classic horror movie. The castle belonged to a rather eccentric great aunt on his mother’s side of the family - one that he never met nor even heard of. The Will specified HIM as the heir, not his parents or siblings.
So this Summer he is off to Ardeal.
Ardeal
Where is Ardeal? Ardeal is the proper name of Transylvania. Transylvania is what the Ottoman Empire called the region when it was under their control. In THIS setting Ardeal will consist of Romania, Moldava, and the piece of Ukriane on the west bank of the Dnister River all the way to Zatoka on the Black Sea.
This is an alternate timeline setting in which monarchies have a stronger presence. Ardeal has a system of government very similar to Jordan. It is a unitary state under a constitutional monarchy. Jordan's constitution is the legal framework that governs the monarch, government, bicameral legislature and judiciary. The monarch retains wide executive and legislative powers from the government and parliament. The monarch exercises his powers through the government that he appoints for a four-year term, which is responsible before the parliament that is made up of two chambers: the Senate and the House of Representatives. The judiciary is independent according to the constitution. Click here for more. Most of the variations are due to a difference in culture, such as not being Islamic.
America is much more like its 1980’s self, than the 21st century. (Hollywood is still making great movies.) Greenland is a US territory now. Canada and Central America all the way down to the Panama Canal is part of the US as are Cuba, Bermuda, etc.
Russia is still ruled by a Czar, but with strength that rivals the old USSR, but it is still recovering from the Cold War. They ceded control over East Germany, but still retain the rest of the old USSR territory.
Istanbul is still the seat of power for the Ottoman Empire.
The Sun still doesn’t set on the British Empire. (It still includes Australia, India as well as South Africa.)
China is still an empire under the Mao Dynasty. The current ruler is Mao Xin Yu, who has a son, Mao Dong Dong who was born in 2003 and a daughter called Mao Tian Yi who was born in 2008.
Japan controls most of the South Pacific, plus a little of SE Asia.
Denmark is an empire that includes Norway, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden.

James Braxton
James is a brilliant young professor at CalTech. Most of his friends will be around his age, though he absolutely will not consider romance with a student. Former student? Sure.
About Your Character(s)

Minor paranormal abilities are available. Please don’t ask to be a lycanthrope or vampire. These are unheard of except in superstition and rumor. There are some plot specific reasons for this. However, some of the classic Hollywood psychic abilities are possible. But I am more interested in personalities than abilities.
James actually has a wide variety of friends. However, none will be on his Dislike list: Bullies, drugs, alcohol. (It is okay to drink, but he would avoid someone with chronic problems.) Also, no Hispanics. It was a Hispanic gang that broke into his home and killed his mother. Finally, noone with origins in terrorism prevalent nations. His security clearances forbade him from contact with such.
One possibility for your background would be that of a princess. After all, he is the newest bachelor. And as Ardeal borders Russia and the Ottoman Empire, it is a strategic position.
You might also be a native of Ardeal. James is - very, very, VERY American. That means he has no idea how to be royalty. He probably knows nothing of diplomacy. And some might say that naming HIM was a bad decision.
