  Harmony was born in Spokane, where she spent the majority of her life. She went to a good private high school, where she was very involved (assistant editor of the yearbook, founder of an art club called The Charcoal Society, cheerleader) and had lots of friends. She was so looking forward to a storybook senior year – and, as the obvious choice for yearbook editor, she would have the power to immortalize herself any way she pleased – capped off by an inevitable admission to the University of Washington, and the promise of four amazing years learning and growing and becoming an artist (or graphic designer, if she had to, just to pay the bills) in Seattle.
  
  Then her dad (her only parent, since her mom’s death several years ago) had a late midlife crisis, and decided to sink his life savings into a bed-and-breakfast catering to outdoors enthusiasts that have travelled to western Montana for the hunting, fishing, and snow sports. So now she finds herself in Littleton. She feels as though the life she had earned was stolen from her, and is determined to make the worst of things. Though she loves her dad, she is still furious enough to be giving him the cold shoulder. She helps out around the B&B as little as humanly possible. She does NOT want to participate in anything at the public high school in Littleton. And when she gets her diploma, she is leaving for Seattle THAT NIGHT, whether she gets into UW or not.

  Harmony is an only child. She has a father, Daniel, 52, who was once a CPA but is now trying to make a go of it as the owner and operator of the Warm Springs Bed and Breakfast (and still doing a little tax work on the side, to help with the finances). Her mother, Rebecca, died at age 43, when Harmony was 15 years old. Up until the move to Littleton, Harmony had stepped into her mother’s role, balancing all her school and social activities with taking care of the house, doing the laundry, and making sure her dad had a nutritious breakfast every morning and a hot dinner every night. She and her father shared a close and affectionate relationship that only grew closer after her mother’s death, and Harmony’s recent decision to separate herself from him has wounded both of them. This will not stop her, however.
  
  She has several close friends in Spokane with whom she still keeps in touch, including Kylie (cheerleading), Marcus (art club), and Sasha (who she had hoped would be her assistant yearbook editor, and who did in fact get that position…just not under her.) Most nights will find her in her room, Zooming with one of them, or with anybody else who still lives in “civilization.”

  Likes: Coffee. Anything with sugar in it (especially sugary coffees!). Flowers. Nature scenes, and other things that would make for interesting drawings – unusually-shaped objects, interesting faces. Hanging with friends. Movie Nights with Dad – now suspended because of bad feelings, but formerly every Thursday night, like clockwork.
  
  Dislikes: Raw or rare meat – if she’s going to eat it, it should be well-done or burnt. Hard liquor, due to a bad experience with scotch when she was 14. Raspberries…though interestingly, she loves most raspberry-flavored things. Dead things. Heights without railings. Littleton and everything about it, on general principles.
  
  Quirks: When she is in deep concentration, her right eyebrow raises slightly. She broke her left ankle due to a botched cheerleading stunt when she was 16, and it still twinges periodically, especially when it rains.
  
  Interests: Art is her one serious interest, and she wants to be an artist – or again, a graphic designer, until she can pay the bills with her actual work. Almost all of her hobbies stem, one way or another, from this interest and goal.
  
  Hobbies: Sketching and drawing, obviously – she always has several sketchbooks with her, and a small array of art supplies, for exactly this purpose. She likes to haunt antique stores and thrift stores looking for cheap, unusual objects that she can take home and do studies of. (Littleton’s wide selection of stores in her wheelhouse is, she grudgingly admits, the one thing she really likes about living here.) She likes nature walks, the better to sketch animals and plants. She enjoys (or at least she did) hanging out with friends, especially at a coffeehouse with a giant frappuccino. While cleaning and cooking aren’t hobbies for her, she does have a certain tendency to arrange things in an aesthetically pleasing way. Her room, in particular, is her masterpiece in progress. Though she desperately misses her bigger room in Spokane, there’s a certain charm in having the B&B’s “third floor” all to herself – an attic space with three big windows, lots of exposed wood, and ample wall and shelf space for all her creations and objets d’art.

  Her art skills are quite good…she has won a few small contests, and once sold a pencil sketch to a complete stranger who saw it while passing her on the street. (This is still her proudest moment.) She is in fairly decent shape, and fairly flexible, because of her cheerleading. While naturally a southpaw, she has taught herself to be ambidextrous for artistic purposes, though she’s still better with her left hand. Out of necessity, she’s a fair housekeeper, and a pretty good cook. She is also reflexively organized out of long habit, and will frequently start putting things in what she considers a better and prettier order without fully realizing that she is doing so.

  Having spent his entire life in rural Montana, Rob has become known as a familiar staple to the folks who live and work around the sleepy town of Littleton. A trained entrepreneur with a degree in business and operations management, he inherited his father’s cattle ranch at the age of 38 after the old man suffered a heart attack. While it took hard work and perseverance to get his feet under him, Rob was able to eventually buckle down and expand his enterprise into one of the most prestigious operations in the region. In a sense, he regards it as his own little fiefdom in the very heart of ‘big sky country.’
  
  Of course, he also has bigger aspirations beyond his lucrative business venture on the ranch. Rumors began to swirl that Rob planned to run for political office, perhaps even vying for the open seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

  While Rob serves as the patriarch and the sole proprietor of the ranch, he has appropriated his younger brother, Jackson, to serve as the head ranch hand. Where Rob is proficient in his managerial skills, Jack knows how to handle the physical labor that ensures everything operates like clockwork. Along with his wife, Laura, he maintains the property and cares for the livestock.
  
  Rob’s wife, Faye, works on the administrative side under his direction, though she is also quite active in several community programs. This has led to a wide array of philanthropic opportunities, which she often utilizes to promote the ranch by highlighting its contributions to the local economy.
  
  The couple also has three children—Bobby, Rachel, and Elise. All of them contribute to the ranch in some capacity, however, Elise has recently moved away from the homestead to pursue a career as a doctor.

  Rob is a bright and cunning businessman with a youthful disposition. He is tenacious, ambitious, and exhibits an overwhelming sense of pride. As a public figure, he relies on his charisma and charm to network amongst his peers and to win favor with the people he serves. He is also a competent speaker and can easily influence a crowd through his choice of words. Throughout the years, he has maintained a strong public persona and is generally well-liked by the people. To the citizens of Littleton, he is compassionate and cordial.
  
  However, there is another side to Rob that he keeps hidden from the public eye. He is not beyond the use of unorthodox techniques, such as manipulation and blackmail, to achieve his goals. This is particularly true if someone crosses him or his family. To those who fall victim to his wily ways, he is cruel and deceptive, especially when it comes to indulging in his controlling nature.
  
  When he is not immersed in his professional life, Rob enjoys nature and the picturesque beauty of the land he grew up on. It’s not uncommon for him to take long hikes, venture out into the mountains on his horse, or rev up the ATV for an afternoon excursion across the wilderness. He is also an avid sports fan—Go, Vikings and Rockies!—and, he has a habit of going to the shooting range to wind down after an extremely stressful day at work.
  
  He also tends to have an impish smirk etched over his features, which makes it appear as if he is always squinting, or perhaps assessing a situation through a sidelong glance; he is also quite a flirt with the ladies, despite his marital status.
  
  Overall, he prefers honesty from those around him, testing the will of others to see how far he can push the limits, alcohol, and the sound of his own voice. On the flip side, he dislikes obvious bids for attention, being upstaged by people who are less qualified than himself, laziness, and packrats—he hates packrats.

  Rob is proficient in a wide assortment of ‘open-air’ tasks and activities on the ranch, including animal husbandry—the care of livestock animals, such as cows, sheep, horses, chickens, goats, and pigs—machine operation and maintenance, basic carpenter and repair skills, and irrigation maintenance.
  
  He is also an astute businessman with natural leadership abilities, which is important to maintain a thriving enterprise.
  
  In addition, he is a fairly decent shot with a rifle or shotgun.
