Zierf and Ellswyr has been at war for centuries. Death has almost become a game by the point, as both sides don’t seem to think war is enough, they’ve taken to assassins to rid themselves of enemies. Though, assassins have become so commonplace that they are easily thwarted, besides the few who make it. Their codenames are the heat of discussion between citizens, aristocrats, royalty and assassins alike.
Assassins kill, but no one who is hiring wants an assassin dead. They sneak around in the shadows, absorb information, they are the sacks of knowledge that either country would love to get their hands on. If an assassin goes missing and there is never a body to be found, then it is likely they’re in the hands of a captor.
It is unlikely for an average citizen to be targeted and they all know that. Nonetheless, they do enjoy the drama in it all and keep to date with assassin ‘news’. Even when a citizen presumes someone to be an assassin, they treat them well, due to knowing their lives are constantly safe. That is, until they know information they shouldn’t.
Both countries have a wall at their border. There is land between the two walls, No Man’s Land. Fugitives, travelers and some assassins hunker in this land.
