Welcome To Starlight Shores.jpg

A city surrounded by lavish beaches. People come from all over to surf the legendary waves, or eat at the many fabulous restaurants lining the beaches. Inside the city is a very contemporary modern feel to the building. There 3 main district in the city, The Fashion district, The cultural district, and The historical district. In the fashion district fancy boutiques lines the streets, as well as other expansive restaurants. This is also where the lavish beaches are and a boardwalk complete with a local shops and places to eat. The buildings have a modern style to them and it can be quite expansive to live in this district. The second district is the Cultural district and is the heart of the city. There are museums of every kind and a grand theater that was built in the 1900s. There are also a number of hotels and a opera house. In the center there is a wonderful park that comes with a playground, picnic tables, a beautiful lake, and a gazebo that is perfect for weddings. The last district is the Historical district. A lot of the buildings are from the 1900s and this part holds a lot of history of the city. Unfortunately, city officials have neglected this part of the city, so most of the building are run down or in very poor condition. The crime rate is very high and it very unsafe at night time.

The de Angelo Family has had control of Starlight Shores since the 1960s and has been controlling all the illegal actives since that time. The coleletti family has control of a nearby city, but recent cop busts have pushed their organization out of the their city and into Starlight Shores. They were small from the start and only had control of the slums of Starlight shores. The old Underboss, didn’t think much of it and say how they two families could help each other out if they worked together to defeat police and other small gangs in the area to go up against them. It was good at first, The De Angelo's got control of the main city and and The coleletti’s got control of the slums. As with anything people become hungry for more power and conflicts started to arise. The De Angelo's underboss in favor of keeping peace gave them more power, which made the De Angelo’s power weaker as he started to give away more and more of their property. The old underboss, wasn’t the smartest tool in the shed and only got the position because his brother was the head whole organization and only trusted family, even if they were terrible at their jobs. Big boss’s brother died suddenly of a heart attack and the position was given to Maxwell. Upon taking the job, Max realized what his uncle what was doing and cut all ties with the Coleoletti’s. Understandably this made them angry as Max is trying to reclaim the city as it’s rightful owners and get rid of the Colette family. The coleletti Family didn’t take this lightly and soon started to retaliate.

All his life Maxwell trained to someday run his family’s empire. He never thought that day would come so soon. It felt just like yesterday that his uncle died of a heart attack, all those years of bad eating habits and smoking finally caught up to him. Now the position of underboss of the De Angelo family was finally handed down to him, and Max was eager to get started in his new job. Before he could though he had to attend his uncle’s funeral which he was getting ready for now.

Fixing his tie in the mirror, Max thought about how today could possibly go. It would be the first time he would be out in the city officially the underboss of the De Angelo crime family. He remembered the teachings of his father that he was to never show weakness to your enemy and always be professional no matter what. In this circumstance his enemy would be the Coleletti crime family as they now hold a large portion of the city. It wasn’t always like this, but some misguided business deals that his uncle made landed them in this situation. Upon taking control Max realized what a fool his uncle was as he had given away half the city to the control of the Coleletti family. It made no sense to him as his uncle was bleeding his family dry just in order to keep the peace. Now that he was in control everything would change as he is determined to restore his family’s legacy to what it once was.

In his Italian grey suit with his hair styled the way he likes it, Max knew that he should be leaving soon to get to the funeral on time. Max wanted this day to go as smoothly as possible because he wasn’t sure if the Coleletti would make an appearance. If they did, then Max would handle it professional and hopefully keep the peace. Any other day he won’t care about keeping the peace since he is about to cut all ties his family has with the Colelettis, however family members who were not apart of the Mafia were going to be in attendance and he preferred to keep them out of it. If today all went according to plan, then Maxwell can start the preparations of his plans for getting rid of the coleletti crime family. When he succeeds then his family will once again be the most feared family of Starlight shores.

She stopped before a large and heavy door adorned with the sign "The Bar of Lights", pulled out a set of keys from her coat pocket, unlocked the door, and walked into the bar. Inside the bar were several wooden tables, a small stage to the left, and a beautiful counter to the right. Going around the counter, Alicia took off her coat, revealing her bartender clothes, turned on the lights at the counter, and began her usual preparations.

It's a bit too early to be opening the bar right now, but considering the de Angelo's funeral, it'd be best to do so. At least provide a place to keep our Coleletti knuckleheads from doing something stupid. Let's see...

With a small sigh, Alicia picked up her towel and started wiping down the counter.

Mob boi in suit.jpg
Jack was late, as usual.

It was not like he wanted to always be late. It just seemed to always turn out that way.
He was supposed to be getting ready for the De Angelo funeral, but he was instead in bed. Rolling over, groaning, he looked up to his watch to see that it was way past the time he should've gotten up.

Shite.

He quickly got out of bed and put his pants on, trying to not wrinkle them as a result. Trying to find his suit, he accidentally bumped his elbow on his military-grade router that he was tinkering with on his desk.

"Oh no no no!" He shouted as he frantically caught it, sighing as he put it back in his original space on the side of his desk. Taking a moment to compose himself, he picked up his vest that had been laying on the floor from when he last wore it. He quickly put it on, glancing on his watch as he did, seeing the time pass by. Grabbing his go-to hacking ipad device, he put it in his vest, and went downstairs to were he kept his gun. Taking out his suppressed automatic Glock 19 from its gun case, he put it into his holster.
"Don't know, the Di Angelo's might be trying to pull something, so gotta be prepared." he muttered as he put the gun near him.

Taking out his car keys, he hopped into his black dodge challenger and turned on the ignition, thinking about how the day will unfold with the two strongest gang families meeting each other at a funeral.

"Well you know what they say," he said as he adjusted the rear-view mirror, "If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room."

You wouldnt be able to guess the hangover Nicolas was feeling at this moment. He'd like to say it was from drinking more booze than he could handle, but nothing was that easy. Work was slowly getting larger and larger in quantity, the death of the De Angelo's head only creating more friction than before. It was slowly turning into a snowball situation, the amount of stress getting out of hand. A normal person would say 'Hey! At least its not someone from your family!'. But he knew better. If only it was someone from the Coleletti family, that way things would be much easier to control. But this meant unknown outcomes that made him drink more and sleep less.

This could mean many things for the buddy-buddy relationship between the two groups, very bad, or very good. The previous bastard that ran the show was a world class push over, giving the past few years days of silence and peace, which in the line of work never lasted. That is why Nicolas has been working his boots off, strengthening and opening gateways, playing his cards the best he could. And it was time to take a break. That usually meant more drinking, but after a week filled with beer that tasked like shoe shine and rum that left burn marks, he wanted something nice. It was still early for a drink out, but he doubted the doors would be closed.

When Nicolas got up he could feel his bones pop all the way up to his spine, leaving an airy comfortable feeling in its place. He knew he looked worse than a garbage can, because he felt worse than a garbage can, but grooming was the least of his concerns at this point so the smell of alcohol would have to do. He took his coat with him, throwing it on to cover the wrinkled vest and slipping on his shoes. The fresh air of sand filled winds awakened him, relieving some of the pounding in his temple. His feet went on auto pilot to the one place where he could think without getting pestered, good ol Bar of Lights.

He knew where he should be, thats why he wasnt going. If he was going to meet the new commander of the De Angelo family then he'd like it to be when he can actually respond how he'd like. Though he's never met the new guy for anything other than party's and social gatherings, he could tell the guy was one to defend pride. Something that Nicolas was notorious for poking at. Thus the reason his act of hooky for the funeral. He could mingle when he wasnt sleep deprived.

Ana was never the closest with her uncle. They didn't exactly see eye to eye on most things, and he always preferred the boys over her anyway, but that didn't mean she wasn't upset. Standing the kicthen of her apartment sipping on an iced coffee, Ana was about done, and really to go get, well, ready. The funeral wasn't going to start before to long, so after putting her cup in the dishwasher, she headed off to her bedroom. She would spend the next fifteen minutes getting dressed, a simple long black dress that brushed the ground and black heels. She left her hair down, but made sure to brush it, before she grabbed her phone, texting her older brother to see if he would pick her up. She had to wonder how he was doing, he was going to be taking over for their uncle, right? Ana wasn't actively involved in her family's business, as in she didn't have a proper role or anything, but it didn't mean she was ignorant. Far from it in fact. Well, anyway, Anastasia grabbed her clutch, making sure her wallet, keys, and the few other small bits she may need, before leaving. If Max couldn't pick her up, she could get a taxi or something.

Gustavo had woken up a lot earlier than he'd have to, had he spent the night in the city instead of in the estate he liked to use as a refuge from everyday stress. That refuge costed an extra 1 hour of monotonous driving to get to town, meaning one less hour of restoring sleep, but he wasn't complaining. Diesel never failed to wake him up. It was as if the puppy knew all of his schedule by heart, including on specific situations like on the day of the funeral of the former De Angelo underboss, which also meant an extra 10 minutes for shaving, and a couple more for putting in a suit.

He'd been tasked with driving Mariella, big boss' daughter, to the funeral, and ensuring she got back home unscratched, which he was more than happy to do. On the few times they'd exchanged words, she seemed like a nice enough girl, nicer than he expected for the daughter of the Mafia boss, actually nicer than he expected for anyone. However, he had to keep reminding himself of the most important recommendation he got: she didn't know anything about the real nature of her family's business, and was supposed to remain so, which meant he'd have to be extremely careful with whatever he said. He'd succeeded in more difficult tasks... hopefully.

This day was one of the few in which he was 100% satisfied with his rank and wished for nothing more. While he'd usually look up to his superiors aiming at in the future achieving higher ranks, on this specific day he was happy his only task was driving a girl to a funeral and keeping her from dying. The death of the former Mafia underboss certainly meant a lot, and he'd already felt it. Nicolas was working like never before to prepare for whatever was about to come, and that meant he was too, and so were his soldiers. But while Nicolas had a lot of mental stress, his stress was mostly physical, at least for now. He had to keep things running of course, while other prepared for the future. All those years of peaceful territory claiming couldn't last forever, he knew that. The De Angelos would eventually realize how much space they'd lost, and then the price would come, and the Colelettis would have to be prepared to face it if they wanted to keep their advances.

Nothing better than to focus on the task at hand. Whatever came later, they'd handle it. After serving Diesel some food and gently petting him bye, he headed to the garage, passing by the loud custom motorcycle he used to ride and hopping in a fully black sedan, luxurious but not too flashy.
A rather long and boring drive later, he pulled over at the agreed spot in front of the property Mariella lived in, 10 minutes early as usual. He refrained from lighting up a cigarette while he waited, as she might not find it ideal, and instead briefly texted Nicolas to confirm he wasn't attending the funeral, as under all the stress and because Gustavo had a specific task to tackle, that hadn't become very clear. Though he wouldn't be surprised if Nicolas replied that he wasn't going. The man needed a rest.

Jackson slammed on his alarm groaning as he forced his body to get out of the bed, he knew taking long would cause problems so he actually made an effort to drag himself to the bathroom taking a quick cold shower. He’d laid his suit out the night before, a simple all black suit and a black long sleeve button up. His uncle had made him get the suit a while ago stating that he would need it, ironically they hadn’t expected that it would be for his own funeral. Sighing he fought with his tie retiring the knot several times before he finally got it, staring at himself in the mirror he attempting to fix his hair before giving up. Grabbing the cat food and water for Mr Hairball he proceeded to fill each bowl up. Glancing at the clock he still had 15 minutes before Max would come to pick him up, overall he was proud of himself. He’d cleaned up nicely, was sober and was ready earlier than expected. It was all out of respect for his uncle who’d been there for him more than his own father, it had been his uncle who realized how smart he was and gotten a trainer for him. They weren’t as close as he was to Max but he still treated him with kindness, losing him would definitely cause a strain in the family but he was prepared for it. Grabbing his phone keys and weed for later he sent a text to Max letting him know he was ready. He was excited that he’d be seeing Mariella, he hadn’t seen her in a while due to his studies and several tasks he had to finish. She would at least make the funeral bearable. Looking around to double check that he had everything he made his way to the door.

[/div][/div] [div class="Name"] Zoe James[/div]
Zoe rubbed her temples in frustration as she shifted through several papers on her desk beside her laptop. There was so much to do and such little time to do them. She hadn't expected the old man to die so soon and leave her with this much legal work. To say she wasn't glad he was gone would be a lie, but cleaning up his messes would be even more of a pain now that he was. After years of ignoring her legal council, the number legal matters steadily began to stack up, thus growing her workload by hours at a time. She wasn't one to complain, though. The pay was decent, if the old man remembered to actually pay her what she deserved for doing her job, even if he never listened.

All of the legal "cover-ups" had been completed shortly before his demise, thankfully. Everything else ranged from random lawsuits to minor things such as overdue tickets that he simply could've paid instead of having her go through the trouble of trying to disprove them. Everything seemed strange for a man of his rank, but at the same time it was no surprise to Zoe. He was wreckless in her mind, and seemed as if he didn't even know how businesses worked. And now? Now she had the Will to worry about. She was almost surprised the man even had one. Fortunately she wasn't the one reading it, but she would have to be there in the event the family decided to feud from within over what he left. "Assuming he has anything to leave." She thought to herself with a small laugh, staring at what felt like hundreds of papers.

Once Zoe finally looked at the time on her laptop, she cursed under her breath and stood, sifting the papers around until she could get them into a neat enough pile to easily shove them into her briefcase when she finished getting ready. She wasn't necessarily running late, but she had planned to at least have her shower done by a certain time so she could go over her work prior to leaving. That, and she's been up all night. Prior to getting into the shower, she turned on the coffee maker so that the coffee would be done once she finished. Her shower was short, though, as the warm water hardly helped keep her away. It was far too comforting, and the steam only helped clear her head of recent stress.

Even as she got dressed, Zoe questioned why she was even going to the funeral. Most lawyers didn't attend their clients' funerals, yet alone their family members' funerals. Then again, she wasn't like most lawyers. Not anymore. Now, she was basically a criminal aiding a criminal empire and providing them legal council, and that scared her. Looking in the mirror, she smoothed out any wrinkles she saw in the long-sleeved, halter-neck dress. It was completely different from what she'd typically wear, but she had it custom made. And technically, she wasn't working.

During her first few years as a lawyer, she'd never imagine her life like this. Every day, she lived in fear: if it wasn't the possibility of disbarment knocking at her door, it was the possibility of being killed for associating with these people. The thoughts that ran through her mind made her shudder, and she quickly looked away from the mirror to put on her knee-high boots, the heels adding a few extra inches. She hadn't bothered much with makeup, only a simple foundation, blush, and ndue lipstick. As for her hair, she let it out of the braids she had it in the previous night and allowed it to stay down in its curly state.

Back at her desk, she shut her laptop and placed the papers on top of it, shoving all of them into the briefcase at once, including her laptop charger. "Now I just need my purse, and I can go and get this day over with." Zoe hummed to herself as she wandered around the bedroom of her apartment, looking for a small handbag of any sort. Her search eventually lead her into the kitchen where she found her leather, Lockmeto Louis V bag sitting on the counter. Before going to the bag, Zoe took a mug and poured herself a cup of coffee, knowing she'd need it. She didn't bother with creamer or sugar and simply drank it black. The taste didn't bother her much, as she was staring to prefer straight coffee. Something about it made her feel like the caffeine worked better. After a bit, went through through her bag momentarily, only to take out an empty bottle of whiskey and half empty bottle of tequila. "I should really stop doing that." She sighed and threw her phone into the bag and grabbed a pair of sunglasses, putting them on immediately.

Before long, Zoe was outside in the garage, constantly checking behind her to make sure she wasn't followed. It was a bad habit she was trying to break, but a person could never be too certain what was around. It was broad daylight anyway. Throwing her briefcase into the back seat of her car, she reached into her bag and grabbed her phone, sending a text to Max that she'd meet him there.

Mariella Coleletti had always been an early riser, so today was no different. What was different, however, was today she was attending a funeral. She hadn't known the deceased personally, but he had been a family friend, or so she had been told, as well as the uncle of one of her friends, Jackson De Angelo. She had to admit that she was excited to see him. It had been so long since she had seen him and she couldn't wait to see him again.

She showered and dressed herself in a fitted black dress, with sleeves that went down to her elbow and a skirt that went down to her knees. She left her black hair down, as she did most of the time, letting her curls flow freely. She did add a hair clip on each side of her hair, making sure to keep it out of her face. While she was never one to wear much makeup, she always wore red lipstick, as she never felt completely dressed without it.

Her father, always over protective of her, had insisted one of his men take her. She didn't exactly understand why, but, as usual, she didn't protest. She always wanted to please her father, and he said it was for her safety. She trusted him completely. She looked out her window and noticed that Gustavo had already arrived. She grabbed her black purse and headed out the door.

"Hello, Gustavo," said Mariella sweetly as she climbed into the passenger seat. "How are you?"

Ah, funerals. A common occurrence in a world where the day to day happenstance was murder. Someone was bound to get shot somewhere, what with the recent rise of De Angelo's new Underboss and the rising tensions between them and the Coleletti family.

Mordecai was in rather deep into the messy business of organised crime but never had an issue with it. The money was good most of the time and he had grown up around the family. It was so normal to him, and his services were always in good need. From having to stake out someone in hiding to gathering information to use as blackmail, Consigliere Mordecai was there.

That was not his only reach, as a Consigliere. He was an advisor for the De Angelo family, making impartial decisions and arguing with the Godfather when necessary. Only someone of his position could do that without getting instantly shot. He liked that.

But someone in the family had recently passed. It was not a big deal, for death was always looming somewhere when one worked around crime. Both the police and the other family would want you dead any day. It was because of this risk Mordecai was so comfortable with it, but kept a pistol in his suit jacket or hidden somewhere else. If he was in the headquarters, he'd have his trusty shotgun instead.

He straightened his jacket and fixed on a black tie, glancing at himself in the mirror. Rarely did he ever dress up this much, but a funeral for the family called for a little more attention. Ensuring he had his gun and anything else he would need, he left his tiny, dark house and called a cab from the side of the road.

Making his way through the halls of his penthouse, Max stopped in front of a large oak cabinet that he kept under lock and key. Upon opening, there are rows and rows of every kind of gun, some old and some more modern. Since he was more skilled with a weapon than he was in hand to hand fighting, he always made sure to keep a form of protection on him. His years of working the streets taught him to always be prepared for anything, even when attending a funeral. Reaching out he grabbed a 9mm glock and stored it away in a carrier under his suit. It was smaller is size good for when you don’t want anyone to know you are armed. After that he made sure he had everything he needed, before he left as he didn’t want to be late for the funeral he was throwing for his uncle. If his father were here, the responsibility of the funeral would fall upon him, but for the last year been traveling to tropical islands with his wife and leaving the business to his uncle. The untimely death on his uncle now left Maxwell in charge and it didn’t seem as if his father was coming home anytime soon.

Max left his building and headed for the garage to retrieve his car which was a black sleek Lexus. Entering the car and turning the engine on, his phone went off as he got a number of incoming texts. Two were from his siblings as he was on the way to pick them up and texted them he will be on his way. The last text was from someone he was expecting and that was lawyer, Zoe James. Having met her only a limited number of times, they didn’t know each other greatly, but she was important. Having a lawyer on his side would be a great advantage to him, one that his uncle never properly used. Max sent her a quick text about seeing her there, before backing out and heading towards where his brother lived. It had been awhile since Maxwell had made time to see his siblings and was quite happy to see them even under the circumstances. He had been busy building a name for himself within his family since he knew one day he would take over as underboss. He just didn’t know that the day would come so soon as it did.

After picking up his brother, Maxwell went straight to go get his sister. They were making good time and he would be early rather than late. They all lived close to each other, so it wasn’t a long ride before they arrived at Ana’s place. Parking his car, Max locked up before making his way up to his sister’s door. Once there he knocked and waited patiently for her to answer.

Seeing no need to bring a weapon Jackson closed his door behind him making his way to Max's car. He was excited to spend some time with Max as he had been busy taking over as underboss, he was thrilled for his brother but knew the time spent together would get shorter. That is outside getting assignments from him. He realized that he now had to work for his brother which he had no issue with, but he hoped Max would be able to deal with how unprofessional he often was.

Staring at his phone he checked his calendar to make sure he wouldn't be doing anything for a while, shooting Mariella a text that he would like to take her out for lunch sometime maybe after the funeral or tomorrow. He hadn't been able to hang out with her for a while due to being consumed by work, the only problem he saw in their friendship is the fact that Max would attempt to take back the territory they lost under their uncle. That would definitely cause a fight between both families and would put a strain on his friendship with Mariella, but she was shielded from the ugliness of what it was both families did. Nonetheless, he would reach out to her even if it was for the last time.

Reaching Max's car he got in grinning at his brother, it wouldn't take them long to get to her and he knew how Max felt about being punctual. They made it in good time and he stood next to his brother waiting for their sister to answer. Playing with his tie he was already tired of wearing his suit and couldn't wait to have something more comfortable on.

Her thumbs hovered over her phones keyboard, as she was debating on whether or not to text Gustavo. They had been secretly dating for about a year and...what was it, two, three months now? She knew that her family would be furious if they ever found out, but ever since the day she had meat him, she knew there was something special about him. Even if he was the Coletti's crime lord. There may even been a chance she would see him at the funeral, her uncle had apparently been working with their family's rival. Or at least, that's what was was last told. Sighing, she just turned her phone screen off and slipped it back into the small purse, deciding she would talk to him later. If he was at the funeral, they would have to be careful, like they always were. She didn't want to get into trouble with her father, and she didn't want him getting I to trouble with his bosses. The whole ordeal was a little exhausting, but it was down to doing whatever to keep each other safe, right? Reguardless, a knock on her door pulled her out of her thoughts.

Ana stood, making a quick round of her apartment to make sure that all the lights were turned off, before she answered the door. When she saw it was her older brother, Ana smiled. "Hey Max," she said, stepping out into the hall, closing the door behind her. "You look nice." There was a slight awkwardness in the air since they hadn't actually seen each other in a while because, well, they had both been busy. "I'm glad you came to pick me up, my car has been having some trouble, and I haven't had time to get it checked out," She chuckled, "Anyway, we should get going. It's going to be starting soon," She pasued, thinking about what she was going to say next. "But are...are you okay? I know you're taking over for him. Daddy should be here, I don't think you should be the one doing things all by yourself." She sounded concerned, and she was. Ana was worried about Max, because for one, his life was gonna be in danger. And now even more than it was before. "It's not fair."

Nicolas
The walk to the bar wasnt really all that long, but it did take longer with the pace Nicolas was walking. He knew that he was going to the bar for a break, and yet still at this very moment he was deep in thought, filled with nothing but work and possible troubles. And when he did get there he was over joyed at the sight of it being open. If it hadnt been the only option of alcohol wouldve been watered down beer from his cupboards, which in his opinion was not any sort of break whatsoever.

When he walked into the comfortable space, he couldnt help but let out a sigh. The soft atmosphere forcefully shoving the tensity in his shoulders. The stool underneath him signaled a time for relaxation, and Nicolas found himself leaning on the counter.

"Something strong please, I dont want to know my own name after today." He pressed his face against the counter, waving his hand at Alicia in an attempt at conversation. Maybe if he just slept through the entire day everything would turn out fine. Though that type of mindset usually never tricked himself into being relaxed, it always ended in more work. Which was, as always, a problem for another day.

Coriander Coriander [/div][/div] [div class=AliciaContent]Alicia looked up and smiled in the direction of the doorway. "Welcome back, Nicolas. I take it you're taking the day off?"

As she said that, Alicia put down her towel, placed a clear glass in front of herself, and began to think about her choice creation. With her index finger poking her face inquisitively like she's a cartoon character, she murmured a few words playfully.

"Let's start out with something easy on the tongue. Can't exactly say that you're drunk when everything tastes like water in 10 minutes"

And so, she turned around and looked through the wall of alcohol. Having found her drink, she pulled the bottle out, replaced the glass on the table with another suitable for the drink. Popping it open, the sound of bubbles floated through the air. Tilting the container over, golden white wine flowed out and carbonated inside the glass. With the glass filled, she lifted it all up, capped it, and pushed the glass forward.

"Champagne, to the loss of our benefactor." She said with her unchanging smile. Gustavo looked up from his phone just as he noticed Mariella was already opening the car's door. Damn, that wasn't the time to get distracted with texts he wasn't supposed to send, instead of opening the car's door to the Godfather's daughter. He'd considered texting Ana to let her know he'd attend the funeral, even though he'd be strictly working (otherwise it wouldn't make much sense for him to attend anyway, as he'd never dealt personally with any of the important people that would attend, and barely knew the deceased).

Of course it made sense to attend because he knew Ana, a lot actually, but that wasn't a public fact, and shouldn't become one. They'd known each other for quite a while now, and had been dating for a little over a year, which was a lot of time if you considered it was a secret. They weren't fools, and even though the families were kinda working together, they were well aware it'd never be something well accepted by both sides, especially now that the team work was likely going to crumble. He'd have to push that issue to the back of his head for the moment, but it sure was something he worried about, beyond all of the other worries he shared with the rest of the Coleletti family to an extent.

He quickly unlocked the door (that he was supposed to open for Mariella) so that the girl could hop into the passenger seat.
"Sorry! Buongiorno." he spoke in a friendly, kinda playful tone. Good thing about working with people with different national backgrounds was he could pick up a little bit of different languages, which he enjoyed doing. "Never better. How are you?" he continued. While he'd only exchanged words with Mariella a couple of times, she was nice enough to make the drive to the funeral a light experience. Maybe the fact she had no idea of the meaning behind the death of the De Angelo's underboss helped a little.

Ricky Revano stormed out of the donut shop.

With a bag of donuts, he ran towards his car. He threw the donuts in the front seat.

"Hey kid, come here!" Ricky said, talking to a guy in his 20s who had seen from the donut shop exchanging money for something across the street.

"Aw shit, its the cops!" the guy said that had given money to the person Ricky was talking.

Ricky Revano is a 31 year old detective from Brooklyn. He was known for locking up criminals and shaking down drug dealers. At the moment he just wanted to eat his damn breakfast.

"Yeah its the cops, so dont make me use force or Im gonna kick your ass punk," he said jogging after the 20 year old who had potentially been selling.

The 20 year old guy was wearing baggy clothes and could have been packing. He looked at Ricky and started runninh.

"Aww here it goes," Ricky said. He started running past a young man drinking orange soda.

Max wished that the tension between him and his sister wasn’t so awkward as it has been awhile since the two of them had seen each other. It was different for his younger brother Jackson, as they too have not seen each other in a while, but yet it wasn’t awkward. Maxwell made a mental note to change that and to visit his sister more often.

“Hey, It’s nice to see you too Ana, and you look nice as well,” Max replied as the three of them made their way through the long hallway and down to where to his car was parked. What his sister said next caught him a little off guard as he didn’t think she was worrying this much about him. It was true, it wasn’t fair that his father partied in the tropical islands and won’t even come home when he brother dies. Max was used to the unfairness in life and wasn’t fazed by it one bit.

“I’m fine, you shouldn't worry about me, I can handle myself just fine without father around,” came Max’s short reply as they all got into his luxurious car. The cemetery was just outside of the city and only took about 20 minutes to get there. The cemetery sat on top of a lovely hill surrounded by big oak trees, it would be a beautiful sight if not for all the graves that surrounded it. ‘ Now was not the time to admire the scenery’ Max thought to himself as he exited the car and walked along the gravel trail to where the service was to be held.

They were early as the worker crew was setting up chairs next to an open plot where his uncle was soon to be buried. Family members were slowly coming in as other guests started to show up too. As the main runner for his family, since his father was out of the country, he had to greet everyone and make small talk. He put up a pretty good front as he was slowly dying on the inside. He would rather be sitting on his favorite park bench reading a Agatha Christie novel than talking to family members he only sees one a year. The only person he was really interested in talking to would be Mordecai, his uncle’s Consigliere. The Coleletti family had their fun taking advantage of his dimwitted uncle. Now they would have to deal with Max and he was certain to set things right. Of course, the talk of business would have to wait till after the funeral. After all it was a time to be sad, not a time to make plans to take back what the De Angelo family created decades ago.

The office was quiet today. Not for any particular reason, just that most of the team had their own things to be doing, out in the streets.
Which, of course, left Eleanor stuck here, finishing the paperwork. She resented always being the one stuck with menial tasks like this, even if it had proven a useful source of information on more than one occasion.
Eleanor ticked off the final form and pushed her chair back, staring at the ceiling as she considered what to do next. She'd heard about the funeral, of course - she doubted anyone in either family hadn't. But that didn't mean she wanted to go. For one, there could be any number of enemies or civilians there, and the risk of being recognised was far too high. Plus, without the old underboss there to help them settle their differences, some sort of conflict seemed almost inevitable, and she'd rather not be caught in the crossfire of men who could handle a weapon far better than she could.
But, with most of the family at the funeral, her options there were pretty limited. Maybe she'd be able to achieve something within the police force, then. Drumming her nails on the arm of her chair, she scrolled through her mental list of who was doing what, finding someone who would suit.
Ricky, she decided. He wasn't the obvious choice: tough and quick to snap. She'd even tried to avoid him during the beginning. But she knew better now, knew just how much she could get out of him with the right approach. And, if she remembered right, he wasn't doing anything more urgent than a patrol.
Eleanor pulled her mobile from her bag, bringing up Ricky's contact. She deleted and retyped the text a couple of times, to get the wording right. It never ceases to amaze her how much nuance you could get in such a simple text.
[Hey Ricky! Any luck so far? :D]
She hit send, before slipping the phone back into her bag and heading out, waiting for a reply.

Zoe glanced at her phone and shrugged, satisfied with the confirmation. Making not of the time, she noticed she was actually making decent time compared to what she initially thought. Mornings, before coffee, are typically slow for her. Especially since she decided to get dressed before hand. She didn't have anything else to do in that time, and if she went to a coffee shop to work until the service, she'd no doubtedly be late. Without much choice, she decided to go straight to the cemetery.

She had received the directions to this particular cemetery, as well as the lot where the funeral was to be held, a day or so ago. It wasn't a long drive from her apartment, surprisingly, and it was almost shocking how she never noticed it before. But when all she did was think about work and how to survive, how could she? As she drove through the gates, she couldn't help but to notice the scenary of it. It made her wish that she had noticed the cemetery sooner. It was more than likely quiet most days, and the scent of freshly cut grass and actual fresh air would've been a nice change for her. Not the typical place to get work done, but it would've been better than being downtown in her office or working within the courthouse during recesses.

Once she found the lot, she parked in the available space as close to where the funeral was to be held as she could, in the event something were to happen. From what she could tell, Maxwell was already there, as expected. Exiting her Mercedes, with her bag and keys in tow, she made her way over, keeping a very neutral tone. Although on the inside, she was both smiling and a nervous wreck. She didn't know Max very well, so she mostly relied on an internal hope he'd be different. Better if anything.

As Zoe approached him, she noticed he was with his siblings. She had only met them on occasion, fewer times than she had seen Maxwell actually. "First off, let me just say I am sorry for your loss." She started to spark up conversation. Clearly she didn't mean it, but her opinions on the deceased mattered very little as she wasn't family like they were. Looking to his siblings, Zoe gave a simple smile. "Anastasia and Jackson, correct? I must say you all look well, considering. Where are my manners?" She held her free hand out towards the two. "Zoe James, but I'm sure Maxwell has told you about me already."

Jackson listened to his siblings talk barely focusing on their conversation, he wasn't exactly close to either one of them so he didn't feel the awkwardness that his siblings were feeling at the time. Although he didn't like the idea of his father leaving all the responsibility on Max, his older brother had always acted like the whole world was on his shoulder and now that the whole world really was on his shoulder in a way. He was extremely worried about him, but once again an advice from him wouldn't do anything. No one listened to their kid brother anyways, and as for his sister he barely talked to her. He loved them both but well no one wants to hang out with their kid brother.

Walking with his siblings he stood also greeting family members, he hated family get-togethers, family members who he hadn't seen since he was 6 or 7. This time wasn't any different, he'd shaken more peoples hands than he wanted to. Wishing he was home with his cat and nicely rolled weed. But he shook everyone’s hand and exchanged pleasantries, keeping an eye out for when Mariella would arrive.

His attention was drawn to the lady walking towards them with purpose, she wasn’t family and he couldn’t exactly put a finger on where he’d met her. Smiling back at her he shook her hand, nodding when she called his name “Nice to formally meet you Zoe, and no my brother hasn’t mentioned you before but I believe I may have seen you working with my uncle”

Ricky had the guy on the hood of his car, keeping him until the cops got there. The local new police showed up on the scene and Ricky let them take over. "Next time just give up, pal. Don't test me," the detective said.

Catching his breath, Ricky opened his car and was going to get in when he heard his phone.

He pulled out the phone

"Message from Eleanor"

"Eleanor. Who is Eleanor?" he asked aloud.

"Hey! The detectives talking to Eleanor!" a cop said while putting the bad guy in the car. "Tell her Bobby says hi" the policeman named Bobby said.

"Uh... Okay Bobby Ricky said.

"Why do these people always send messages?" he asked. "Just call me!"

Ricky called the number. "Detective Ricky, who's this?"

Mordecai said nothing at all on the ride, thankful that the driver didn't try to start any conversations about the weather or worse, about him or where he was going. Asking to be taken to the cemetery was enough to get the driver to not say a word. In this sort of business, it was best to say less and listen more. As the car pulled up to the cemetery, Mordecai silently paid the fee and left, straightening his jacket once more before entering the grim, gloomy cemetery.

Quit cemeteries were unnerving to the average person, but Mordecai had been here many times before, for funerals and other shady activities that could have involved grave robbing at some point. The endless rows of grim, stoic gravestones didn't move him at all, and to be honest, neither did the death he was here to see today. Sure, it sucked a little to lose someone so important in the family, but such was the way of the mafia.

Weaving his way through the rows and columns of grey, Mordecai made his way to where he saw the new Underboss and a few others, one of which he recognised as Max's sister, and the other as his brother. The others he didn't know so well, but as an investigator in addition to being a Consigliere, Mordecai was going to make it his business to find out who these people were. It never hurt to know more people who could eventually end up being your greatest enemy, or your best ally.

"Greetings," Mordecai greeted as he came up to the group. While his greeting was extended to the small crowd of people, it was mostly directed at the new Underboss. He said little more, but that was his nature and his one rule - talk less, listen more. People spilled all sorts of secrets without knowing, and he was like an information sponge.

Mariella hadn't really been expecting Gustavo to open the door for her. It honestly hadn't even crossed her mind, and thus, she made no attempt to talk about it. Just as she settled into her seat and buckled up she heard the chime of her cell phone, letting her know that she received a text.

"Buongiorno," Mariella said, giggling lightly. She spoke both English and Italian fluently. "I'm well, thank you."

Once she had settled in, she looked at her phone and grinned as she noticed that it was from Jackson. She gladly texted him back, telling him she would be delighted to go to lunch with him.

On the way to the cemetery, Mariella chatted lightheartedly with Gustavo. She had only spoken to him a few times, but, she was always one to talk someone's ear off. She had enjoyed a fairly easy life, only helped by how completely unaware she was of her family's business, and it certainly showed. She had been raised to be a bit spoiled and she had been sheltered from the harshness of the world.

Upon arriving to the cemetery, Mariella's stepped out of the car, once again having no expectations of having her door opened for her. Her chatty demeanor did change, however, realizing that this was a somber occasion. While she didn't know the man, she was going to be respectful. He was the uncle of a good friend, after all.
