most often seen in a frightenly calm and collected demeanor, the clan eldest usually keeps himself out of the other member's affairs unless he feels the need to step in. he's incredibly withdrawn and seems to prefer his literature books over the company of his peers, mortal and immortal, usually giving off the impression of being rather unimpressed with the happenings around him.

being the clan's eldest, he's known to be extremely resourceful, responsible and reliable in regards to the group's overall safety and comfort. though he doesn't consider himself to be anyone's superior, he's always been the one to turn to and rely on during times of decision making; often seen as the clan's authorative and protective father figure.

despite his emotionally hardened attitude, one can tell that he greatly cares about the clan members; having known some of them for decades or even centuries. he treats and loves them as a father would treat and love his children; always looking out for them one way or another; even willing to risk his own life if theirs happened to be in danger. being as old as he is, the clan eldest possesses an immense amount of intelligence, knowledge and experience. he's rather quick to outsmart others, usually being one step ahead of most people in times of difficulty and threat.

incredibly skilled at hiding his traces, he's repeatedly outrun any uprising danger regarding his and the clan's safety. it doesn't come as a surprise that he's insanely prepared and observant due to his safety measures. despite his positive confidence in himself and the things he's capable of, he's not one to easily underestimate his opponents.

though he's usually very upfront about his thoughts and intentions, he's quite skilled at controlling and manipulating others in order to achieve a certain goal. he's very eloquent and soft spoken, each word of his uttered with some kind of purposeful intent, resulting in him having quite the effect on those around him. he's known to keep the peace within the clan, often being the one to put an abrupt end to any uprising fights and disagreements.

mostly desensitized to violence, he's rather coldblooded in terms of killing and doesn't seem to hold much importance to human life. he's repeatedly voiced the fact that most mortals inherently disappoint him due to their simple and predictable nature. thus, he hasn't made much progress in his determined, century long pursuit of an idealized immortal companion. most of the clan members consider him to be a very depressed individual, some of them concerned about the possibility of him putting an end to his life at some point.

once an outgoing and insatiably bloodthirsty being, he gradually started to grow tired of his own existence over the span of many centuries, feeling as though he's already lived too many lifetimes for anyone in their right mind to bear. instead of ending his immortal life, he began to hold onto the idealized idea of his one true companion with whom he could enjoy life once more if only they were to cross paths. he's obsessed with the idea and would go to extreme lengths to make it come true.

he's utterly convinced of the concept of his eternal soulmate, a being made just for him, being somewhere out there. despite his continuous disappointment for countless of centuries, he's never stopped searching for the one to complete him; to make him whole again. he has the ritualistic habit of properly inspecting his prey, determining whether or not they're the one, always resulting in him pitying them, or more so himself, for not being what he's been searching for. so far, this has always resulted in him simply killing his prey without a second thought.

he generally dislikes noisy and crowded places, resulting in him withdrawing himself to isolated private sections at parties the other members of the clan attend to. one should probably not disturb him while he's focused on reading or another specific activity, for he'll most likely react in a not so friendly and forthcoming demeanor. he's very territorial and doesn't take lightly to outside vampires stepping into the areas he's claimed as the clan's feeding grounds. though he's a very calm and collected individual, he's quick to get physical with those who happen to get on his nerves one too many times. he doesn't enjoy being argued with and certainly doesn't tolerate any disrespect towards him.

there’s not much that he’s genuinely scared of due to having lived for half a millennia already. however, he’s rather terrified at the thought of never finding his soulmate, or being rejected by them.

BACKGROUND ⎯
born and raised in airelle, france, jehan spent most of his childhood and teenage years on his family's farm. able to provide food and humble shelter for themselves, they considered themselves lucky enough to not live in absolute poverty unlike most of the time's population. being the farmer's youngest son of four children, jehan often assisted his father and older brother out on the fields. they would occasionally head to the nearby city by foot and sell some of their fresh harvest in order to make a minimum living. back then, the now extremely well-read clan eldest, was as uneducated and illiterate as most of the world's population.

the arrival of the black plague in 1346 forced the d'airelle family out of the countryside and into the walls of the city, struggling to stay alive as the disease raged throughout the entire continent. most of his relatives had already fallen victim to the plague when jehan ended up in one of the many hospitals known as the pest houses. there, being only twenty-two years of age, he awaited his deadly demise while mourning his deceased family. death had come for him at last - yet it was not the black plague that decided to put an end to his heartbeat.

it was a vampire that had taken notice of him as he lay on his deathbed, enthralled by the young man's beauty and bravery even on the brink of death. jehan was offered the gift of immortality in exchange for eternally loyal companionship. he accepted, unwilling to fade away among the many tragic victims around him, and together they left the city on the very same night.

the years went by, and as his creator taught him everything there was to know about the immortal existence, he had already become accustomed to the other man's brutal and bloodthirsty ways. the two of them roamed the medieval world together for more than two centuries, leaving behind a long trail of brutally murdered prey. his creator was known to be a cruel sadist and savage even by vampire standards. he would often use jehan's youthful and innocent appearance in order to lure in unsuspecting victims, resulting in them being defiled and murdered in unspeakable ways. unable to break their supernatural blood ties but also having to cope with the things he had to do and witness, jehan slowly but surely became rather desensitized to the extreme violence surrounding him.

his maker's self induced death in 1548 left him in a deep pit of despair but also marked the original beginning of the clan, for jehan could not bear to be on his own. he seemed to both love and hate his creator, uncertain of how to go on without someone by his side after having spent so many centuries with the one who had made him into what he had come to be.

in his pursuit of companionship, a clan of immortals came into being over the course of many centuries. although he turned a handful of vampires in hopes of them being the one, such relatively short lived romances would never live up to his expectations, and would result in the continuation of his search. despite such repeated disappointments, he still shares a deep bond with each vampire in the clan.
