How would you describe an adventure? Is the journey from one place to another? Is it the achievement of a goal? A war for peace? A struggle for satisfaction? Or is it perhaps discovery of things you never knew existed? In that logic, you would say life, in of itself, is an adventure, and all of us are merely adventurers, making the most out of it.

In a world of swords and magic lived countless Adventurers, risking their lives for thrill, for love, and for money. Our heroes arrived the Tavern of a cliff town known as Lift, where they are seeking the adventure of a lifetime.

images

The tavern itself was relatively quiet, with only a few people sitting inside it, reading what seems to be a map and writing upon journals. Like most taverns, there was a bar counter, where one would drink to their heart's content. It was occupied by a handsome young fellow with wings. On the far left of the tavern was a quest board. Filled with simple quests for Adventurers to do to keep the town safe and such. One of them stood out from the rest though...

"This tavern is unusually quiet", I think to myself. Taverns should be full of life! Excitement! Suspense! AND THIS HAS NONE OF IT.
At that moment, I got up from my feet and Summoned my sword. A beautiful 15 feet blade, made from blacksteel, a material that can never break.
"I DRAKE, CHALLENGE ALL OF YOU! ANYONE BRAVE ENOUGH, COME AND BATTLE"

"Sir?!" The winged barkeep flinched in surprise as a stranger appeared out of nowhere to fight. Clearly he didn't want to throw hands with the man with a 15 feet sword.

The girl who appeared to be studying tensed up, and began to pack her work, knowing that things will go wrong if she continued to stay in this empty tavern.

The only other person who was in this tavern...

"Hmph. I see you haven't changed one bit, 'Edgelord'." A woman's voice. Drake would see a hooded figure, clad in blood red ruse from her seat in the corner near the entrance, glancing at Drake with a smile. "How about a spar for old times sake?" She suggested, taking out what appears to be a short sword with a crystal bladed hand guard with a dragon motif engraved on it. The crossguard had a hand on it, and the blade a tad bit short yet shaped like a spear at its very tip with a crystal on it. She held the sword in back hand, holding it as if it was a mere cane from it's grip.

I was startled. That voice was all too familiar. One I hoped to not hear for a while, and yet, hear it was.
"Hmph. I didn't expect to see you again so soon." I said, facing her general direction.
"Very well"
I point my blade at her, and I powered up.
As soon as I reached Draken's 1st level, I felt a sudden rush of energy, and I dashed towards her without hesitation, attempting to slice her hand off.

Ah, looks like his little power ups didn't change much. That's good. I was hoping to get the same, exciting fight as before. quickly brought my sword arm up to prepare for Drake's attack.

The first move was the most explosive, leaping at me with all his might, motioning his sword to struck my hand off. I twisted my sword, letting the bladed guard face the wrist. I'd then apply some grip on the handle just as our blades collided, the brief clash creating a loud clang. The force of the clash can be felt all throughout the tavern, causing a strong gust of wind through all directions, even going as far as to remove the hood I had placed upon myself.

I grin innocently, like a maiden greeting her long lost lover. My, my, he's first attack is almost unpredictable now! Quite the improvement, I say~

I drew back the arm with the blade itself pointed at Drake's chest, and immediately swung it with the intent of swatting him away from me. Knowing that it won't work, I cast an blast spell which simply heats up the air enough to cause an explosive force to be enacted upon its surroundings. Meaning, everything around a 10 meter raidus will be blown away; that included me, Drake, and some tables.

I got flown onto the bar section of the tavern, landing perfectly ontop of the counter itself, standing up and holding my bladed wand 'Dragonis' like a rapier.

"I dare say, you're quite faster than I last remembered." I commented, my other hand smoothing over the blade of Dragonis. "Or was this just you 'warming up'?" I chuckled as my blade began to glow green.

"M-ma'am...?" The pretty boy of a bartender attempted to speak up, "S-shouldn't you two do this outside...?" He asked.

"Nope." I smiled, "Don't worry, we're not gonna break anything~." I chuckled.

"Y-yeah, somehow I don't think you're gonna keep to your word!"

"Relax Bartender! This won't be as Destructive as it might initially seem" I chuckle. She' fast.... My first attack, though unpredictable, was blocked. Not to mention she sent me flying towards the wall. Thanks to Draken, I don't quite feel anything yet... however, I feel that will change in quite a bit..
"Nicely done! But... how do you fair against..."
Before finishing my sentence, I dash again, powering up to level 2 while running.
As i prepare to slash her head on, I quickly move behind her and create an afterimage...
Nows my chance... i thought
I placed a well aimed kick right onto her face

He powered up again. It was rather a quick change compared to last time. Perhaps he wants to kill me for real this time? Now, if memory serves...His second burst lets him multiply his ridiculously long sword into shorter ones. Not only that, he gets a speed and a power boost. I imagine he'll try and throw me off guard at this stage...Why not do the same, I wonder?

Drake takes a stance as his transformation finishes. He's coming. I reverted my grip back to how I originally held it.

Drake lunges with the force of a cannonball, leaping high above in order to hack away at my fleshy exterior. Well, that ain't happening! As 'he' was swinging his sword at me, I swung back, casting a wind spell that caused a green gust of wind to blow around me, providing a small mist that allowed me to make a little getaway--a neat teleportation circle under where I stand.

I reappeared a few feet in front of the bar, arising from a small magic circle from the ground as I materialized ontop of it out of thin air.

Well? It appears that I disappeared the moment I casted that spell, didn't I? And at a pretty lucky moment too as I find Drake in a pretty different position than I thought he'd be. In fact, we're face to face. Maybe the slashing guy was a decoy, then? Never thought he's the kind of guy to do that sort of thing.

With that, I quickly swung at Drake, the arc of my slash lit a green flame, setting nothing on fire, but creating a strong gust of wind.

"So, what brings you over to Beyonder Canyon, Herr Edgelord?" I asked, hopping away from Drake. "Is it perhaps, the same reason as I, Rubrum Rott?" I asked.

There is a simple reason why I came over to this town near Beyonder Canyon, and it's an interesting tale that I had to relieve myself off of the Demon Lord's army just to investigate it...

Again, my slash was futile... She's as smart and cunning as ever. As soon as I attempt my kick, she disappears, appearing right in front of me. Before I could even react, she sends me flying again with a strong gust of wind. I hit the tavern's wall again. This is really going to hurt me later.
She asks me about what Im doing in Beyonder Canon. In a battle of all times!!! I ignore her question.
"Focus on the battle at hand for Pete's sake!"
I split Norigami, my blade, into 5 separate smaller swords. Each radiating a yellow light.
They float around me and start to spin rapidly. I assume a defensive stance and wait for her move.... I breath and focus and attempt to counter whatever she throws next!

Oops! Looks like he didn't like that. Drake didn't like me in general, but still. A little banter wouldn't hurt every now and a while, you know! It would seem that Drake had put up a defenses stance, splitting up his sword into five smaller ones. If I recall, he could command those mentally. Joy.

"Aww, is it all that bad for me to catch up with my favorite opponent while fighting?" I giggled, leaning forth as a magic circle below me once more, this time, multiplying, surrounding Drake with a bunch of magic circles in a 25 ft radius. "I guess I should end this quickly if I want you to talk." I smiled as the magic circles began to move, circling around Drake in great speeds. Like a mounted horse circling an enemy soldier. "Toodles!" I waved my fingers as I then sunk onto the ground, disappearing without a trace.

I have a plan, but it's kinda complicated to complain. And I don't want some fourth dimensional being to leak my secrets.

Wink.

((You were literally created/born 3 days ago, HOW DO YOU KNOW HOW TO BREAK THE 4TH WALL?!))

In anycase, I would reappear on one of the corners of the circle and begin to fling two elemental spells at Drake before sinking into the ground in a second. Fire and Ice respectively. Then, I would reappear on the circle at Drake's side and lunge at him, slashing my bladed wand at him before disappearing in the moving ring of magic circles.

I repeat these movements several times, mixing spellcasting and striking as two minutes pass. Hopefully, he wouldn't notice that one magic circle slowly creeping up behind him...

This is it.. she's planning on ending this as soon as possible huh. Thats pretty bad news for me.... I need to think....
Just then, a multitude of magic circles start surrounding me...
"Toodles!" I hear. Annoying as ever...
Is it over?
It's over... isn't it?
NO.
I CANNOT LOSE TO HER OF ALL PEOPLE.
Using that conviction, I leave an afterimage of myself where I stood last and make for a hiding spot. I'll need time to think...
I can't beat her up without getting close.... but she can easily keep me out with her wind and explosion magic. Not to mention, she can just freeze me if Im not careful.... I implant one of my swords onto where I last stood.... I have a plan!

I didn't notice it at first, but didn't it look like that Drake wasn't making any effort to move? Or perhaps it was something he's planning? Anyway, it's too late for that as one of the me's slashed through Drake, revealing it to be an after image, and inside it, one of his short swords.

What is he plotting?

I arose from one of the magic circles, specifically the one behind the spot where the sword laid. I didn't appear like the female adventurer in a red hood. I was a demon, clad in red. Most of my body is made of rubies, except for my horns and some articles of clothing like my belt and cloak.

The bartender nearly shrieked in fear, but realized that if he did, I might kill him. Good call. Now why would he just leave his sword behind?

Hmm....

I charged my wand, ready to strike whatever Drake is about to unleash on me. Meanwhile, the magic circles shall spread a little bit further and tilt at random angles, making my area of casting bigger. This way, I can get even crazier.

I prepared a small magic circle in my palm, making so that if I ever cast something in a hurry, my magic circles will also cast them.

Now then, have at me!

She took the bait. A slash went through the afterimage, revealing the blade and she arises from one of the circles. Or should I say, at this point, it arose...
That demon.... one battle Id never forget... was against THAT.
That poor bartender... Something tell's me he won't be able to sleep tonight.
But at least now... my plan is ready.
The blade left there expands and moves onto it with blinding speed.
As soon as it connects it blows up again into multiple blades... I proceed to dash there and unleash all bladez left onto it's chest, and attempt.onr final slash at it's head...

The instant the blade expanded in length, I had to at least quickly clash my bladed wand on it to redirect the blade away from me, parrying it as I had my magic circles turn towards me as I began to prepare for a lightning spell. The guy's sword can't break, but it sure as hell conductive. After a single clash, the blade exploded into multiple blades, and along with it, the whistle of something headed straight for me.

So this was his plan all along. Clever boy!

I let the knives hit me, making me stumble back as Drake and his blade right at my neck. With my luck, I caught it with my spell casting hand just as it reached it. Not very deep, but enough for a cut. I can probably push it off, but...

"Well played. You appear to have me at a checkmate." I chuckled, but it's not good enough. I still have the magic circles. I could fire off a Demon Lord's Thunder right here and completely obliterate this guy. Then again, that would violate the rules of my 'leave'. If I kill even a single human here, I'll be stripped of my title and be executed by the big boss, The Demon Overlord. "I say it's your win." I say, lightning crackles around my palm before the magic circles disappeared as I walked back, letting go of the blade. "Good show, good show. That's exactly what I wanted to see." I say as I sunk down to the ground through the remaining magic circle and reappeared in front of the bar, sitting down on one of the stools, taking out a gold bar and placed it on top of the counter. "Here you go, keep. That should take care of the mess. Oh, and keep the change." I say before facing Drake. "Now you're probably wondering, what's a Demon Lord doing out here with the filth?" I turned to the barkeep. "No offense." I apologize, turning back to Drake. "Let's just say a certain report caught my interest, and that's been pasted over there as a quest." I say, pointing at the miraculously standing Quest board. Even I'm surprised it didn't get flung away by our little spar. "Go on, read it. I'll give you a few minutes." I say, soon looking at my claw nails to see if I need to file any of them.

Hey, just because I'm a scary gem demon lord doesn't mean I don't know basic hygiene. I'm a girl too, just so you know.

Thats it? She didn't even bother counterattacking... Oh well. A win's a win!
She teleports back inside and I follow.
She points me towards a quest rather pushingly. Hmph
As I walk over, Draken ran out, and a sharp pain punctures my back.
"ARGH" I shout collapsing.
Well this is pathetic
I start to squirm and roll around.
"Can you read it?" I manage

"Oh right. I almost forgot about that." I gulped as Drake rolled around the floor in pain as he was walking towards the quest board. It's a side effect of his unique power, or so I'm told. I sigh. Guess I shouldn't had let him get to power up a second time...I quickly hopped off of my lovely seat and walked over towards the quest board and ripped off a certain quest from it.

"The report I got was about some ancient structure being discovered in the Svere cave down at the Beyonder Canyon. Sounds boring at the surface, but here's the strange part. Apparently, it's mostly made of metal, unlike most ancient structures which are made out of stone and runes." I explained as I walked back towards the bar, sitting on it. I read it for a bit, and luckily...It confirms the report I got. An ancient, metallic ruins were found at Svere cave. "This quest says the same thing. Some archeologist found the metallic ruins and would like any and all adventurer who accepts the quest to keep her out of danger." I explained the quest in a gist as I reverted back to my human disguise, placing the quest paper in front of the barkeep. "It's an escort quest from an archeologist, sure, but I'm sure we can work something out, right Edgelord?" I giggled. "You get the rewards and all of the loot you'll find in there. I just want to explore the place, take note of what's in it, and see who built it." I said, crossing my legs. The Demon Overlord was interested on what's in the ruins, but other than that, he's willing to give it to me. If that's the case, then it may as well be the perfect place for my very own Dungeon. I giggle at the thought. "So, what do you say?" I ask, waiting to see if he's interested for an adventure.

Although I could hear Rubrum speak, I was too busy screaming in agony to really understand what she was saying...
Although I did hear the word adventure....
And I love me some questing!
"Sure sure sure"
I manage to say...
I try to bear the pain, and stood up.
"So um. What do we do now?" I asked taking the paper from her hand
"Metallic ruins eh... that's weird. But eh, sounds fun! By the way..."
I grasp her hand firmly and look her in the eye
"Nice bout. Now let's head out!"
Afterwards, I walk towards the bartender and slap him in the back before leaving the tavern

Truly an interesting man he is, that Drake. Without hesitation, he stood up, bearing the pain of his own blade to stand and accept my own offer, shaking my hand. It's like he doesn't really see me as a woman, which shouldn't be a problem, really. I'm a demon lord, I'm supposed to hate him. Then again, we're more of like, combat buddies? Anyway.

As Drake left the Tavern, I stayed behind to cast one final spell; Sleep. Of course, I had to do something else to him considering that he just saw me in my true, demon form. If I let him be, who knows what that guy will do? Thus, I have to erase his memories on top of that. However, I can only erase memories at a recent time frame. In this case, it's me erasing his memories of my true form. Afterwards, I woke him up.

"Hnng...Wha...?" The winged bartender groggingly woke up from his brief sleep. "Um...When did I...?" As he did this, I set the scene. I sat down and flipped my hood on.

"Oh, hey! You're finally awake!" I said, "Listen, my friend kinda left a little while ago, but I gotta tell you that me and that guy accepted the escort quest, ok?"

"Wha...? Oh! Right, yeah!" The bartender jolted up, soon nodding as he took out a notebook which he probably used as a means to take down notes on who takes on the quests...Guess he was the owner after all. "Thanks for telling me! That one's really important to us, since the girl that was here earlier really wanted it to be taken." He chuckled before tilting his head. "Err...Can I get your name for verification though?"

Name, huh? Guess I have to make something up if I want to let Drake do this quest...

"It's Ruby." I created a name, which is a bit close to my own. "Just call me Ruby."

Meanwhile, while Drake waits outside for Rubrum, he sees an orange haired girl, carrying a map and a backpack filled with a bunch of exploration stuff. She seems to be looking at the tavern, but hesitates to approach it. Probably because of the earlier threat and skirmish. You do recall seeing her there before. Looks like she got out there before the fight escalated.

Hmmm.. that lovely lady looks very familiar...
OH CRAP she was one of the adventurers in the tabern earlier.
"Hey ladyyy!" I shout jogging towards her.
"Sorry for the earlier uproar" i floof my hair and pat her head
"My bad. Didnt mean to cause harm... what's your name?!"

The woman flinched upon hearing the man call out to her, fearing as if he had already finished off whoever fought him inside the tavern. She nearly froze in fear until he came to her specifically to apologize, patting her head in the process as he asked for her name...Yelling for it, to be exact.

"Eep, n-not too loud!" The woman jolted in surprise at how loud the battle-maniac is. "Uh, I'm..."

"Ms. Deep, right?" The familiar voice of the red clad aventurer, 'Ruby', or more commonly known to Drake as 'Rubrum' can be heard, as she finally joined the two. "My, my. I thought I'd have to find you before we go." She giggled, standing beside the girl. "Good thing you didn't stray too far, otherwise starting this quest will be troublesome." She glanced at Drake. "Ain't that right, Edgelord?"

"Huh? You two are...?"

"Yep! We're both adventurers that are addicted to fighting. This Edgelord here is Drake. You can just call me Ruby." Ruby said, patting Drake's back quite strongly. "That little spar's like a greeting to us. Although this idiot overdid it with the intro." She chuckled, provoking Drake.

"R-right, then..." The girl, who was named Ms. Deep, fixed her hair, brushing it back her ear. "I'm Luxy Deep. It's an honor for you two to accept my quest!" She bowed lowly, as if respecting those of royalty.

"Woah, didn't expect that..." Ruby was wide eyed. She never knew that Deep was such a kissass...Forgive the term. But in actuality, perhaps it's her first time giving out a quest. She had seen certain newbie requesters on escort missions, so this is not really new to her. "Don't worry about that, hun. Just focus on your getting some work done in there."

"Right! Sorry, it's honestly the first quest I gave out..." Luxy said, "S-so, are you two ready to go? I can wait until tomorrow if any one of you is--" Before she could finish her sentence, Rubrum snapped her fingers, and a grey light shone over Drake and Ruby, completely healing their wounds and revitalizing both of them.

"Done." Ruby smiled. "We can dispatch right now."

"Well I'll be!" Luxy gasped in surprise, glancing at Ruby. "You have a lot of magical power...Are you a cleric, perhaps?" She asked, before shaking her head. "We can just talk along the way...Follow me!" She said, beckoning the two of them.

Now, the journey begins...!

--Downhill Forest, Beyonder Canyon-->

Past Lift Town was the Downhill Forest. A forest that's named exactly as its terrain; downhill. It's the forest where one could get to Svere Cave relatively easily. It's going to be quite the trek before you reach that, so why not try to talk to one of the ladies?

"My name is ruby" I mockingly immitate Rubrum. Overdid the intro my ASS. She attempted to murder me with fire and ice! AND YET I OVERDID IT?
However.... Ms. Deep is quite cute.... hmm maybe a family will be nice afterall!
Time to initiate my own quest.
THE ROMANCE OF A LIFETIME INITIATE
SO... how must I start...
Do you I be blunt and ask for action perhaps?
No.... that would be weird!!!
Do I..... bide my time get to know her? Yes yes..... yes....... that will do..... I swear if rubrum RUINS anything I will M U R D E R.
"S-so.... um Ms. Deep! What um... brings you to these parts? You look FAR too pretty to be around these parts.."

The trek was actually starting to get really quiet, despite the serene ambiance the forest provided for them.

For Rubrum, it was getting exceedingly boring. It's a good thing Drake noticed this and started talking to their client, Luxy. Although it looked like he did it because he wanted to get to know her more. Rubrum would find this amusing to watch, for sure.

"Oh! Um, t-thank you?" Luxy thanked the sudden compliment, scratching her cheek as she her cheeks flushed slightly. "I, uh, actually lived in the Beyonder Canyons, actually! Lift was just the nearest town with an Adventurer's Tavern from where I live, which is at the foot of the mountain where Svere Cave is!"

"Oh? There's a human village near that cave?" Rubrum interjected, hearing some interesting information.

"Why yes! The town miners actually discovered those ruins, but the town head let me go out and hire some adventurers." Luxy elaborated, "They actually didn't do anything to it when they found it, thinking that monsters would show up."

"I see..." Rubrum nodded, "You must have some good village warriors when you managed to not catch the Demon Lord's attention." Rubrum commented, looking back in front of her. "I'd like to have a brawl with then someday." She smiled, showing how battle hungry she is.

"Interesting." I tried to sound more reserved for now... giving the wrong impression might be bad for me in the long run...
I look around to survey the surroundings. Forests are always calming in my opinion. The sound of birds chirping and the quiet rustling of the trees and bushes make me just want to lie near one and sleep for the day.
Light just hits in small pockets thanks to the covering the trees provide... At night, this place must be way different.
"Actually... since a human village is nearby, we should probably prepare there first. Im sure we can use the supplies" I comment. All I have with me right now is my sword after all. Who knows what might happen inside...
All I know is that I need to protect Luxy for now..

"Alright, you're the boss." Rubrum shrugs, letting Drake take the lead of this little rag tag party. It's one of the only good things to come out of her little vacations, she gets to do whatever she wants, even team up with humans for a bit.

goblin_header.png

The group arrived at a flowing river on some sort of mountain side clearing. On the shore of the river were Goblins. Three, green skinned goblins holding daggers and swords. On their feet was a sack with a hole on it. The hole leaked gold that left a trail of gold coins that lead...Somewhere.

The Goblins have this bizarre aura to them. Glowing a faint, yet obvious rainbow hue. Not only that, their appearance shifted at random. Parts of their bodies were outlined with boxes and, in a way, freak out in quick and abrupt spasms. Their noises appear to be quite disturbing. Aside from your average goblin's gurgles and hacks, these ones are distorted in pitch.

"What in the world...?" Rubrum squinted as she looked at the goblins. "Edgelord, is it me, or is there something clearly wrong with those goblins?"

"Hmm? They look like normal Goblins to me..." Luxy tilted her head at Rubrum, obviously confused on what she meant.

It would seem that only you and Rubrum noticed that Goblins' bizarre state...

Luxy doesn't seem to notice... but yes, Rubrum was right. Although they simply appear as goblins... they seem to constantly changr shape in quick outburts.... This seemd like big trouble.
"You see this too right?" I look at Rubrum who was still observing the goblins..
We need to dispatch these quickly! Who knows what these things can do?
However...I can still feel the aftermath of the battle with Rubrum... Powering up would kill me in this state. I need to use the environment.... All i have with me right now is Norigami, but I can work with that!
Without a word, I cut two tall trees nearby to block their current path. This could give us time to do something... A direct attack could be dangerous.

my only thought right now is to protect Luxy and to get past this obstacle. From this distance, I could manage a quick thrust with my sword to test the goblin's.

Let's see their response

"...!" The Goblins took note of the sudden falling of the trees, immediately arming their daggers as they quickly glanced at the group's direction in a heartbeat--a snap of their neck, even. One of the strange goblins let out a shriek, growling at our heroes as its two cohorts charged at them, leaping over the barricade with relative ease, soaring into the air as it shot itself towards Drake and Luxy like a speeding arrow...!

Meanwhile, the other goblin shot towards Ruby, who attempted to catch the speeding goblin with one hand only for it to quickly shot away from her intended grasp, now circling her like a fly waiting for a chance to land, any attempt to swat it down resulted into a failure

"This speed...?!" Ruby gasped as she drew out her wand from her sleeve, holding it like a knife in a backhand before quickly spinning, producing a green tornado around her which caught the strange off guard flown high up onto the air. However, it seems that the goblin quickly adapted as it simply grinned, soon shooting itself towards Ruby with a great force of magic that even the Demon Lord herself had never even thought of using! As the goblin thrusted its dagger to stab her in the eye, Ruby parried it with her wand, the blades clashing in sparks as the goblin landed in front of her.

The Demon Lord in disguise, Rubrum Rot was clearly struggling to outpower this strange goblin with a rainbow aura--just what the hell are these goblins made of?!
