local cryptid

i put the cry in cryptid
Heya, my name is Syn. I'm a senior university student who works too much. My pronouns are she/they and despite my chaotic schedule, I'm pretty active online. I know there are a thousand responses on this thread, but I promise it's still an active search.
I'm looking for someone with well-developed characters and/or unique plots. I play characters of all genders, orientations, races, body types, and abilities, and I would really appreciate it if you do as well.
I'm going to sound pretty harsh here, but I promise I'm actually a very friendly person. C:

Guidelines
Nothing too difficult here. I roleplay only in third person past tense, and I usually reply a couple times a day to once every couple of days. I post anywhere from four meaty paragraphs to a whole page or more for each response. If you don't reply for about ten days and I don't hear anything from you, I'll probably just leave our conversation and move on. If something happened and you come back, I'm always down to start up again or start a different roleplay.
Regardless of the roleplay's context, the most important thing to me is how well the character is made. I want the characters to be dynamic, and most importantly, I want to see realistic responses. I don't want to read something that looks like a low budget anime with bad dubs. I will likely ask you for a writing sample before we begin to roleplay. That being said, for the love of all things good, please look at a few of my introduction samples to see if we have similar expectations when it comes to what posts should look like.
I really appreciate a roleplay partner who is mature in and out of roleplay. This means that you give realistic roleplay responses and contribute to moving the story forward. Do not insist for me to play a male to your female, seme to your uke, or assume anything really. This is not because I have any particular preferences, but because it tells me that we have very different values and expectations when it comes to roleplay.
Also, just be kind and communicate with me OOC. Remember this is supposed to be fun, and it's not very fun if one person is doing all of the work or isn't really feeling the roleplay.
You MUST be at least 18 years old, regardless of the content in our roleplay. I am going into social work, so it is VERY important I am not interacting with minors in ways that could be considered inappropriate. I will not negotiate this.
Also, I'm pretty old-fashioned and I don't usually do face claims or anything like that. You can only tell so much about a character by their physical appearance, and I believe that your character's description should show in the roleplay. But if you have some art you really want to show me, I'll be happy to look at it.
Lastly, please no GM, racial or gender-related fetishization themes, self-insert characters, no quads or furries, love at first sight, using real people as characters, bands, MPreg, fandoms, characters under 20 (except for androids), and no romanticizing abuse, slavery, and drug usage. Now, I ain't no saint. I often use very dark elements in my stories. Many times problematic, if not terrible things do happen in my roleplays, but I'm not about making those things seem okay, or having them be the main attraction. The key word here is romanticizing.

Roleplay Example A
"Kiva, darling it is very important that you stay close to me," Alastair cooed, unable to bring himself to scold his daughter for running off when there were so many people and things to look at. She was only allowed to venture out of the estate grounds once a week, and even then her activities were limited. "Someone who was very important to these people has died, this is not a time to play." He gently reminded, fixing the bow beneath her chin.

"Sorry, Papa." She said, looking up at him with big hazel eyes that were colored exactly like her father's. Her hair was dark, nearly black and curly, pulled back by a ribbon. She was almost ten, though she looked closer to the age of five or six. She had heavy circles under her eyes, and her lips were nearly as pale as her skin.

"It's alright, sweetheart." Alastair stood up, standing nearly a head taller than most people. He cradled her tiny hand in his own, his fingers laced with fine metals. Despite his height, he was an elegant man, with sharp features and clean skin that made him stand out from most men his age.

He pushed open the door of the small conference room and into the hall, looking to the side to see an older man in blue and gold approaching Lady Eleanor several yards down the hall. He tightened his grasp on Kiva's hand at the sight and coaxed her to walk in the opposite direction.

"You walk too fast," Kiva complained.

Alastair stopped. He had intentionally been walking slower, but apparently, it wasn't slow enough for her. Was she feeling ill again? "I'm sorry." He picked her up and cradled her against his side, "You are a bit too old to be held like this." He carried her back to the sanctuary.

"I will be too old when I am too heavy," Kiva argued, and buried her fingers in his hair without thinking much of it.

Alastair smirked and clicked his tongue at her, but he didn't say anything. He respectfully moved past the altar and sat her down at one of the benches. He straightened and fixed his hair a little, his face quickly becoming serious again.

"Are you sad, Papa?" she asked.

Was he? He felt sick, maybe, and scared. The people at this funeral were capable of terrible things. Most of them looked like vultures to him, while others appeared grossly insincere. He didn't want his daughter to be around these people, he didn't want her to grow up to be one of them like he had. "I am." He touched her hair and sighed, looking around the sun-soaked room.
Roleplay Example B
“Shit, Power, you look like hell.” greeted a muscular officer sitting at his desk, positioned by double glass doors that lead into the administrative portion of the building.

“Thanks,” Rainer replied, his voice flat. He moved straight past the man and down the small aisle of desks. He stopped at his own, which was virtually empty aside from a computer, a mug with Grumpy from Snow White on it that was filled with pens, and a little battered origami crane. He stood there impatiently and waited for the system to boot up so he could clock in.

His partner prior to becoming a mentor, Hazel, came up to the other side of his desk and leaned against it. She was a strong woman, nearly as tall as he was, with short coarse hair and dark skin. She folded her arms and her lips were tight as she examined the extra heavy circles under his eyes and the frown lines that never seemed to go away. “Hey," she greeted after several seconds of being ignored.

Rainer merely grunted in acknowledgment. When she didn't follow up with a question or story, he stopped and looked across at her, apologetically. “Hey.”

Satisfied with the more reasonable reply, she tipped her chin up a little bit. “Rough night?”

“Yeah,” he answered, placing his thumb on the scanner to sign into his computer.

“Alex alright?”

“Yeah,” he exhaled, drawing away from the computer. The tips of his fingers hung off the edge of his desk.

“You nervous about meeting your newbie?” she already knew the answer, but she had to ask.

He ignored the question. To an extent, he was. He was well aware he wasn't the most welcoming person, and he didn't have the energy to pretend otherwise. He reached into his desk drawer and clipped his nametag towards the bottom of his shirt.

“You'll do fine.” Hazel tried to assure, “Mine survived, yours will too.”

“Right.” He plucked the little crane off by the point on its back and turned it over in his hand, delicately fidgeting with its head.

Hazel watched him for a few moments, wondering if he was going to come out and say what he was feeling or express a concern of his, but she was given nothing as usual. “You may be a madman, but at least you've got people's backs. People get that,” she said, reaching out and rubbing his arm.

He groaned, rolling his head back, “I'm too old for this.”

“You're not even thirty.” Hazel smacked his back a few times and let her hand drop. She looked off to the side, watching as Risa disappeared to use the locker rooms. “Look."

Rainer's dull brown eyes moved across the room to look at the small looking blonde heading into the locker rooms. His first thought was that she didn't belong here. She was probably capable of doing the job with the right training, but he would never wish this job on anyone who had better options available to them. Maybe it would be the right thing to scare the badge right off of her.

“Go on.” Hazel nudged him along.

Rainer set the crane back into place, and he fixed it so it was sitting just right against the cup. He walked across the room and stopped by the threshold of the locker rooms. He leaned up against the wall and waited for her, mentally rehearsing how he wanted to greet her.[/SIZE]
Themes
I am into so many different things. I usually like roleplays to be character based so I'm not going to list everything under the sun, but if you have a plot, character or an AU you'd like to start with let me know. I'm totally down for things like doubling, poly relationships, no romance, some romance, and having several characters in one story. I'm super flexible.
Primarily I do fantasy, sci-fi, steampunk, post-apocalyptic, AUs, and pseudo-medieval high fantasy.
I know this section is vague and directionless, but this is intentional. I do this because I hope that you will approach me with some ideas or concepts that you would like to see in our roleplay. I'm a character making and plot developing beast, but I don't want to be the one doing all of the work.
Although... I will help you out a bit. Here are some ideas I've been wanting to use, they're just the first things that come to mind.

Current Cravings
Any sort of fantastical AU
m o n s t e r s
Something that has to do with the mortal and spirit realm
Steampunk
r o b o t s
Something gay
A chill space adventure
Something whimsical
Something with Lenus, Dismas, or A'Gale
Some Character Concepts
Rei--a chaplain who secretly has no faith and comes struggles from a traumatic past. He travels and uses faith and his life experiences to better understand how to help people.
Locyrn--a soldier who has jumped into a time other than his own to complete a series of tasks to prevent tragedy from happening in the future. He has become stuck in this different time, and his memories before his travels are beginning to fade.
Lenus--a grim who serves an eccentric noblewoman and resides over lands healing from years of curses and wars. He is reclusive and judgmental, but will help anyone in dire need who has good intentions so as long as they have something to offer him in return.
Alice--a virtual space diver who is more into the virtual world than the real one. She's shy but speaks her mind when addressed. She is deeply disturbed and struggles to relate to people.
Dismas--a gentle necromancer who tries to live a quiet life in a small city, using his magic and access to great knowledge to help the locals, while keeping quiet about what he actually is. Despite being well-liked, he keeps himself quite isolated from others.
Abigail--a cyborg who stolen from their original facility by a group of mercenaries. She is inexperienced in everyday life, but an excellent soldier. She's oddly maternal and deeply curious about the world.
Clia--a shy marine biologist who is conflicted between his love for research, and working as a professor, and his need to express his feminine side, and explore his gender identity.
Shiloh--a combat medic who has returned from a long time overseas. He's a thoughtful man, and even though he gets along well with others he doesn't relate to them easily. He's destructively selfless and struggles to heal from war.
Duska--an emotional, deeply curious, and mysterious spirit seer who can communicate with the spirits and the dead. She's loving, but also dependent on others for her survival. Her oddities tend to either wear people down or endear them.
Azel--a humanoid alien who specializes in escorting people across star systems, specifically refugees and those victimized by the greater federation. He's authoritative, confident, logical and compassionate towards all walks of life.
Sage--a kind and bookish woman who disguises herself as a man so that her work as a scribe. Her sweetness is often a clever mask for her deep, underlying frustrations with society and herself.
Hayden--a nomad with a kind heart who lives in exile. He wants to do nothing but to return to civilization and help free his people.
Enora--a guardian who knows very little about everyday life. He lives a dangerous and selfless life and tends to be very well mannered shy when it comes to expressing himself. He upholds the law and formalities, but often finds himself conflicted with what is expected of him.
Ashton--an old warbot who specializes in guarding. He's bookish and sweet, but a brutal fighter. He's secretly sentimental and very loyal to people.
Toril--a very masculine and physically powerful knightess who was once the princess of a fallen kingdom. She is noble, independent, and very intimidating, especially for men. While she is very rough, some habits from her royal past still remain.
Angel--a monstrous demon who is enslaved by humans to kill his own kind, among others. He's known for his wickedness, unwillingness to speak, and mystery, but he is also known for his gentleness towards those who are vulnerable.
Rainer--a jaded investigator/soldier who is known for his temper and heroic work in the past. He's rough around the edges, and no one can exactly figure him out. He's a lot smarter than people give him credit for.
A'Gale--a tiefling Queen who has reclaimed her kingdom that was taken from her family during war. She is noble but informal, righteous, compassionate and short tempered. She leads with a few other founders, rather than with a king, and tries to create a utilitarian culture among her people.
Tsura--an odd traveler of a rare race of beings with the ability to know the history of anything she comes in contact with. She is fierce, but has a kind, somewhat juvenile heart and dreams.
Cedric--a monstrous being known as a void walker who travels between realms as a messenger. He is greatly feared, and often mistaken for something dark and evil despite having nothing but kind intentions. He is a peaceful and solitary being with almost no memory of his past, and no true physical form.
Kai--a shy man of science (or magic, depending) who would rather live a quiet life, but is instead often wrapped up in dangerous situations due to his creations and abilities.
Olur--a terrifying beast who acts as a guard to ward off intruders from the castle he serves. He is from an ancient, nearly extinct race of dragons. He was once a king, and now he exists as a bitter slave, drowning his sorrows with sinful substances when he is not working.
Merida--a half orc who is out for revenge after her child was taken from her when war hit her homeland. She is torn between starting a new life, and fighting a futile war against the humans who will inevitably take her people's lands.
Lore--a tortured empath who was the daughter of a vicious warlord who briefly seized the kingdom before his mysterious death. Most people think she died with her father, despite her being very much alive. She is self destructive, and is desperately looking for a purpose in life, while also struggling to cope with her necessary isolation.

G'day darling! You seem super cool and I'm interested! Id love to fire stuff out and maybe do something with ya.

First off, I love your profile picture :3
But, back to business, I'd love to rp with you, was there any sort of plot you had in mind? I've been craving a post apocalyptic one myself. I'm a sucker for the genera.

StarryKnights StarryKnights

Thank you C: We can totally do a post apocalyptic roleplay. I have a couple of prompts, but not exactly a fleshed out plot just yet. I can go into more detail over PM if you care to shoot me a message.

Hello! I too adore the off-the-path plots and love your guidelines. Would you by any chance be interested in fleshing out a sci-fi narrative, or something else that tickles your fancy?

Cyanic Cyanic

Sure! I think you just need to post ten times. I'm a fairly new member myself. What I did is I just went to the thread where everyone is introducing themselves and said hello to a bunch of people haha.

Hey there! I'm interested. I was unsure of whether or not to post on the thread or instead just PM you, sorry!

hate to be a pain but I can't actually send PMs yet so I'm wondering if you could send me a PM so I could discuss a story/character idea I have :)

I have pretty much the same ideals, although I am involved in a romanticized abuse roleplay, which is irrelevant in any case. I'd love to work on a roleplay with you!

hey! i don't have any real plots for you, but i have, like, 8-10 characters that are sitting here doing nothing. i'd be interested in post-apocalyptic or modern (as long as you're chill with crime influences? nothing nsfw, drug, or abuse related, just your typical heist/etc. themes)!
