New Dawn Academy is built around the TORCH facility and lab disguised as a normal school. It is based off the southern coast of Alaska on a newly formed volcanic island called Mount Clarestine. The locals call the area the Scalding Peaks because of the amount of volcanic activity blocking the area off. The entire island had been modified with holo technology to conceal its whereabouts, a naturally formed barrier to prevent sailors from drifting through, and aerial protection with the surrounding thick fog. The island itself is quite lovely and sunny with dense enough forestry and a few fabricated habitats. It’s considered a dead zone where all connection is lost once in the field. It has also been heavily modified to suit the needs of the lab.
The school itself is very sleek and futuristic looking. Students have dorms on the east side while the classes and facilities are on the west side. In the center is the main laboratory run by Dr. Keflum, current chairman of TORCH and creator of the Blaze link. The buildings are far more luxurious than most hotels, fully accommodating the students and their needs. Several areas are blocked off from the students requiring staff clearance. Currently, students have access to the dorms, classroom halls, library, gym, lounge, and cafeteria with their own passes.

The students are all between the ages of 18-24 as that was decided that was the proper age where the body could adapt to the system but they would be old enough to know how to use it. While it may seem like they are living lavishly attending some fancy school, they are actually test subjects without their knowledge. They had no idea what kind of environment or study they were walking into when they applied and continue to lack understanding of the true purpose of the program once inducted. They do not have many freedoms, must follow a rather strict regiment filled with training, have tests conducted on them at any given time, and be prepared to be sent out on missions. Students take regular college courses corresponding with both their abilities and courses the Dr. believed were important knowledge. They are permitted to wear whatever they like during regular hours but during training, they wear a jumpsuit with the TORCH logo on the back of the neck, and on missions, they wear a specialized suit given to them to supplement their powers.
There will also be “showcases” where students will demonstrate their talents to earn sponsorships. That will be the system used to have characters advance with their powers and abilities. Since it is primarily team-based, if one person receives a sponsor then their partner also receives that same sponsor. More sponsorships mean getting more equipment, better equipment, and more unlocked powers since they’ll be funding the extra time and research put into those characters. Sometimes it will be demonstrating a skilled performance, fighting a captured creature in the facility, capturing a creature in the field, or fighting another student. It will completely vary.
Should your character cease to exist, muns are permitted to create a new one.

BLAZE Link

The Blaze link is an implanted system created to alter the DNA to induce metahuman abilities. It forces the body and brain to push past a certain limitation to “evolve” into a higher form over time. Currently, as it is still in testing, the strain of attempting to use the abilities alone has put too much stress on the body so it must be offset by a “co-host” aka a partner. Once the implant is fully online, each person has a genetic partner that complements their link. Through that link, people are able to activate powers as long as they remain in the radius of their partner.
The implant is a thick device in the shape of a flame that glows when in use. Orange means it is fully functioning, blue means it is malfunctioning, white is offline, and pink means it is linking. A failed link will blink yellow and a successful one will turn red which means the abilities can be activated. The radius of which the abilities can be used can be built up over time as the skills and body evolve. As it stands from current research, it can only be used within a two-foot radius of the co-host and must be activated through touch.

The world is set in the year 2286 and is on the verge of apocalypse. There are still major cities standing and plenty of locations that are being defended against varying threats. Some are unaware of the falling society but most have taken to live in shelters out of fear or have armed themselves. They are a little past modern advancements but not far enough to actually combat what is attacking them.
At first, they were holding on fine with resources readily available to the public but after two years of the situation growing steadily worse, it has now begun to decline. Things such as the internet, communications, and transportation are still operational at a declining rate and things such as general resources like food and water are becoming more sparse outside of government-funded camps. They aren’t completely wiped out or have declined enough to riot but it is starting to make people worry for the future. (Think of like the chicken wing shortage this year)
The first major event was when Europe had a vampire outbreak. It was culled back but not extinguished. From there, things like werewolves, ancient terror birds, and even a viral bacteria outbreak had started to pop up. Then local folklore believed to be only a “ghost story” turned out to be true with their re-emergence after years of hiding. So on and so forth, the world is falling apart.
After the broadcast, it had regained some hope in the eyes of the people. Thousands applied but only one hundred were accepted to be flown out. The rich, who easily went into hiding during the outbreaks, began to sponsor the program and its members without knowledge of what the program truly was. Government officials were the only ones allowed to be within the lab to observe progress and decide if they want to provide funding. The world recognizes TORCH as the leading scientists in the field of technological and biological advancement. No one knows what goes on in their facilities and members are not permitted to speak of it.
