Fantasy Legacy of the Magera Interest Check

Mitchs98

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )
Magic? Yeah it exists. Not how you think, not how it once was. Not anymore. No, it hasn't for a long time. Before the Magera were killed magic was the ruling force in the land, civilizations lived by it and thrived with it. Almost every single citizen knew some branch of it, elite city protectors knew multiple forms of destructive magic to keep their loved ones safe, magitek was naught but used to make everyday life easier. But of course things don't always stay perfect...they never do. For a time life was peaceful, war was kept to a minimum, and civilization was in a constant upward march. What no one realized was this easy lifestyle was what would soon lead to an age of strife, of chaos, of bleak darkness. For you see the lack of conflict caused people to grow soft and complacent. Not everyone, but the vast majority. Any monster attacks were snuffed out quickly by various groups of adventurers, the land governed so well by the Magera that none dared to start a massive conflict.

It was in essence a utopian society, its people calm and happy with what they had. Though of course as they usually do all good things must come to an end. The upward march of technology coupled with the serenity would ultimately be what caused the crumble of society. It didn't happen quickly unfortunately, no. While the majority of the kingdoms were enjoying their times of peace the continent to the North had been building their armies, training for war. Training to destroy the Magera and claim their lands for themselves, to unite them all under one bloody flag. The Northern Karoi people believed that at the rate things were going it would only be a matter of time before society stopped believing in fighting and thus stopped training people for it on a whole. Leaving the bands of adventurers to be the sole front of humanities defense. In other words, they believed that it would boil down to two options. 1. The monsters destroying the cities and taking them over for themselves or 2. They took control.

Unfortunately they failed to see their flawed logic in their beliefs and soon started war on a massive scale, going down south to lay siege to any outpost, city, or kingdom that opposed them. Their main goals would be to slaughter each Magera in each main kingdom, thus solidifying their claim to the land. It was a long and bloody fight, one that lasted years, one many thought would never end. Despite their advanced technology they lacked the army to both use it and hold off the Kaori, and unfortunately they had both the technology and the manpower to use it. If anything it wasn't a war, no, it was a one sided slaughter that the losing side struggled to maintain a hold on. It would of been over much sooner had the Magera not fought alongside each of their people. Coincidentally, it would of also been far less bloody if they had of simply surrendered.

At the dawn of what was the final battle the final remaining Magera, an old greyed man by the name of Albion Pendledragon saw what needed to be done. He didn't want the same fate to befall his kingdom as it had the rest. He mustered the courage to do the one thing that none of the rest had, be the reason they were to proud or simply too stubborn, he took his own life to save that of his people. He marched to the front lines of the war before the battle even begun and slit his own throat as calm as day, finally ending a long and bloody battle. Hundreds of years passed, thus bringing us to where we are now.

Magic exists, yes. Anyone with common sense will be able to tell you that. Though not in nearly any capacity as it used to, at-least not as commonly. Everyone in society still possesses magic this is true. But now adays its simply used for menial tasks to make life easier beyond that of even what their advanced technology can do for them. It can be used for combat though in most instances weakly so. No, those with high magical prowess are usually indoctrinated into an army of some kind, a famous adventurer, or someone wealthy in high society. While it is possible to expand ones' field of magic through sheer training most are born with it. Those that are generally branded at the age of thirteen with a mark of power, dictating their higher status, and thus being held in higher regards in society. Those that aren't are considered rogue and a traitor to the crown, able to be arrested at will and even executed upon capture even they commit a crime of any severity.

These traitors are numerous, though not necessarily powerful they're scattered all across the Kingdoms and tend to live on the edges of society. Several have banded together in large groups, each with unique names, the most prominent as well as dwelling within the capital ofAleksa would be Apex. The Apex are primarily dedicated to stopping the rising monster threat. Though they also serve as a place of refuge and general mercenary group, helping those that need it and hiding them from the law. Slowly but surely their numbers are growing in an effort to go back to the way things were, before the Kaori took over and oppressed the people, when the Magera still reigned.(edited)

However not even with the Apex's efforts are things looking well for anyone. Despite the Kaori taking over the Kingdoms in an effort to keep them out of the hands of the monsters they did not however put forth effort to quell the ever growing hordes, at-least not enough. And with there simply not being enough official monster hunting groups any longer the monsters populations have more than tripled in recent years, and they only grow every day. Thus its left up to the Apex and the fair few remaining groups to both fight off the monsters and prove to everyone that if nothing is done, humanity on a whole will be wiped off the face of the planet.
150 Before Magera
The people of Sanar were in the beginning stages of their lives, setting up their kingdoms, building their homes, claiming land and settling tribes all across the globe. Life was relatively peaceful and happy, beyond petty squabbles the people knew no real war. Ever so often a larger scale fight would break out though that was far and few between, and usually only done between a few settlements at best. 180 Before Magera Monsters started appearing in the land. Far and few between, though still posed a good threat to the lands' people. Frightened and scared they started crafting weapons more proactively and training their people to use them as well as use their magics for combat in defense against these foes. Being relatively weak they seemed to be beaten back rather easily for the most part, not taking much effort at all for the people to conquer save for surprise attacks and the occasional night raid by the monsters. Bar a few setbacks the people continue to grow and prosper with ease. 200 Before Magera Stronger monsters have started appearing, quicker and more numerous. Civilizations are forced to start training its people into an organized military branch to guard their cities at all times of the night, no longer is simply training civilians how to fight an option. Major losses during the time it took to train ranks to fight against the monsters, though after the formation of the armies life resumed it's rather average and natural pace.

250 Before Magera.
War. The people of Sanar fight tooth and nail against the vicious monster hordes. Where they came from no one is certain, what's causing their rise in strength and number? No one is certain yet there are rumors of a more powerful monster or even a mage commanding the hordes to claim the lands for themselves. What they could possibly gain from doing so is unclear, the idea of such a thing hearsay at best. Much of the males are indoctrinated into the local regime as soon as they're 16 and complete vigorous training. For the first time in recorded history the people are scared, the future looks bleak. The only thoughts on every single beings' mind is survival and what must be sacrificed to achieve it.

Rise of Magera

For quite some time it looked as if life on Sanar would be quickly wiped out by the monsters. Most cities were wiped out or forced to disband in-favor of forming much larger and more well-fortified city states. Countless lives have been lost, many fallen returned to the battlefield as undead abominations controlled by Liches and Warlocks. Nearly every life lost is another added to the enemies ranks. Only five strongholds out of the vast civilization remain, many vastly crowded and overpopulated, running out of basic food and supplies. It's only a matter of time until civilization is snuffed out on a whole. Those that remain cling to life, cherishing what little remains that they can grasp onto. When all seemed lost the rulers of each stronghold were surprised to hear news of a simple group of six powerful people razing the monsters to the ground like mere insects. They alone that seemed to appear out of no where like gods were turning back the war. The citizens held out hope that these rumors were true and not mere fallacy, that they actually stood a chance. Little by little the unholy cries of the legions of monsters began growing silent, until finally they were forced to retreat back to wherever it was they came from. This task was no small feat, even for the group that would later be known as the Magera. The monster horde had grown immeasurably, it took ten long years for them to be beaten back to the point it was safe for the rest of the civilization to join the fight.

Even then it took another ten until everything was finally peaceful, until they were finally allowed time to rebuild. With the Magera's help this was easy, each taking up command of a remaining stronghold across the land. Though by the end of the war and during the rebuilding phase one of the six seemingly disappeared, presumed dead by most during the intense conflict though a body was never heard nor were any traces found. Rebuilding was luckily a moderately easy task, the Magera showing them incredibly advanced magitek; at-least as far as their tech levels were concerned.

200 RoM - FoM

It took a long time, but finally. Finally civilization has been rebuilt. Bigger and better than before. The citizens with the help of their saviors are able to enjoy a peaceful life, one they certainly deserve after the hardships they were forced to endure. Advanced magitek is common place now, built, traded, sold. An entire standard economical system has been set into place to help regulate items better. The monster threat is kept at an all time low, primarily by bands of adventurer guilds who take out jobs to hunt down monsters for money or simply do it to keep their people safe to not bring about the horrors of past years. The towns still have their own militaries though much smaller than before, seeing as there really wasn't any need for them. Life would continue like this for quite some time, the people happy and content. Finally, peace reigned once more.

Northern Kingdom Kaori
The North is home to the tribe of the Kaori, the land a snowy tundra though well developed. It can be harsh in some spots though for the most part the cities are built in such a way that the snow is of minimal disturbance to their way of life. Beautiful pine tree forests dot the land in much of the area, the Karoi despite being a warfaring tribe also respect their homeland as much as they possibly can. While not the largest of the kingdoms it was the most powerful with the Capitol being nearly impenetrable by any amount of force from monster or mage alike. The wildlife here is what you'd typically expect to find in a Earthen northern setting, polar bears and the like with foliage aside from trees far and few between. Cities here primarily indulge in hunting, trade, or fishing to acquire their needed supplies. Due to the surplus of easy to kill large game the Kaori are also quite well known for their products involving the use of hides and bone, as well as the rare and valuable resource known as Obsidian.(edited)

Southern Kingdom

Zeino The Southern Kingdom of Zeino is set in a location that's the polar opposite of the Kaori kingdom. Life here is hard for those that aren't accustomed to it, many have tried to move here though soon perished in the harsher conditions. Despite modern magiteknologies that make living here easier than it had been in the past it is still a true challenge and not for those faint of body or mind. A harsh environment though rich in lost relics and treasures from times passed, the creatures here more feral and hardy than those found anywhere else. Many contain some form of poison or extremely tough chitin hides. These hides are often used in building strong buildings, weapons, armor, and even in some magitek. As such adventurers often prowl the lands en masse to take down hoards of the beasts and reap the rewards.

Eastern Kingdom Aleksa

The Eastern Kingdom of Aleksa is a kingdom settled in a lush grassland. Much like the Kaori the races and civilizations here tend to build with the land rather than destroying it, much of their cities are clustered closer together to one another rather than scattered around so as to preserve the land around them. They enjoy the same luxuries the other kingdoms do yes, however rather than harvest their own resources and take more than they need to survive in daily life and by trade they buy them from neighboring kingdoms. Their undeveloped land does come at a cost however, and that is more frequent attacks by monsters. Though they are easily thwarted by the people they are quite the nuisance and troublesome, some being rather powerful and harder to deal with than most. The main export of the Aleksa kingdom is fresh seafood caught in the large lakes and the neighboring ocean, their Capitol in-fact being a port town.

Western Kingdom Britania

The Western Kingdom of Britania is modeled in a more regal fashion. Large stone castles, cobblestone roads, and things of the like are commonplace despite the advances of technology. It's by far the most developed out of the kingdoms, much of it's land being inhabited by people , developed into factories or farms, or otherwise being taken up by cities or such. Though it's not to say they don't have open forests and such, it's simply more scattered than other areas. Britania mostly focuses on the export of ingredients for tea, and coffee as well as high quality magitek and building supplies. Most of the higher end items available for purchase are exported from here. While they don't possess the most powerful military out of the kingdoms, they are the wealthiest.

Hey everyone! Finally finished this after procrastination, writers block, and generally not knowing how to word somethings. It's not nearly as descriptive as I wanted it to be...but I fear if I don't decide to go ahead and post it I'll never actually finish it. The plot itself is the focal point after all, the rest is mostly just to help aid in character generation. Now I did go ahead and post the character skeleton here, HOWEVER. No sheets are officially being accepted at this time, do not post them here. This is simply so that those interested can go ahead and start on their sheet if they so wish. If this garners enough interest I'll make the actual thread, pretty it up, get pictures, and etc.

If anyone has any questions let me know!
