Fantasy Legacy of Dragons

Hazmat44

Ignore the radiation. I do that all the time.
Once upon a time, there was a place called Illycrium.

It was the realm of dragons, a chink between worlds where no threat could assail them. It was from this realm that dragons strode forth into the world, treading on all those beneath them and obtaining the gold and treasures of other races. No wizard or high-born elf could attack such a place; not even the demigods of old could breach the barrier guarding Illycrium from the world.

In this culture of strength and majesty, the children of the dragons - the dragonets - are all raised as one. Their parentage is left a mystery to prevent favoritism, leaving only their strength and wit to prove their own merits. Whether through rites and rituals or through combat and warfare, dragonets learn how to become dragons the likes of which only legends can reference.

Our story begins with a clutch of dragonets, hatchlings only a mere eight years of age, entering into the schools of dragonhood; Breath of Gale, Claw of Razors, Strength of Mountains, and Magic of the World. Whether these hatchlings are to breathe fire to melt adamantium, to hone claws sharper than light, to bear physical prowess greater than the crust of the world, or to cast spells that make even the Old Ones back away, they must learn to be dragons of pride.

However, they may not get the opportunity to finish learning...

Requirements are pretty simple. Fully-grown dragons can be over forty feet long, but since they can't die of old age the Ancient dragons are much, much larger. Dragonets of learning age (namely, us) generally average around fifteen feet in length, counting their tail, but can be larger or smaller by a difference of maybe five feet at a maximum.

I will request that you be capable of getting along; there's no point in making a group RP if a lone wolf leaves the group immediately. Obviously don't kill the other roleplayers. Writing quality has to be passable, minimum size of two paragraphs (Unless replying to someone's post, i.e. a conversation). Ideally, post once a week, but this is more to ensure everyone's on the same page and can keep up with the plot.

In terms of limitations... just DM me the character sheet before you post it. Magic definitely has limits; no gravity, time, or physics-based magic. Minor spatial magic is permitted, provided it has restrictions. I've learned my lesson regarding vaguely described abilities; there is always a loophole, and it's always overpowered.

Anyway, just have fun! We're gonna start out with the basic schools so everyone can get a hang of their character, get a bit of socializing in, and then the plot will kickstart!

After a conversation with an interested individual, I feel like it's necessary to add; "dragon" does not necessarily reference the standard Western dragon. It also means Chinese dragons, basilisks, drakes, wyverns, wyrms, et cetera.

Feel free to chat here, by the way. I'm almost always online and happy to answer any questions you might have.

I’d love to take part in this, if you’re still accepting people! Could I potentially have my youngling aspire to be enrolled in all four schools? Like, would they be able to achieve a “Jack of all trades, master of none” status?

They certainly would, though they might recieve some disdain for not being the greatest (insert here) of all time. Dragons like their pride, especially the older ones.

Also, this is absolutely still open.

Cool! I think my character is going to be one that’s not focused on one of the four disciplines, rather that through their study of all four they seek to become the best… not the best of any discipline of all time, but overall the best dragon of all time.

What else do dragons want if not to be the best dragon ever?

I don’t know. They’d be insane if they’re not wanting that. Dragons are prideful creatures, after all.

I’m just thinking my characters gonna be like “You say I have to take only one of these courses? Well fuck you, I’m taking all of them. Behold the field of fucks I give and see that it is barren.”

He would likely get his butt roasted in very short order. Again, dragon pride.

Oh, nearly forgot to put this in the main description: ABSOLUTELY NO MIND CONTROL. It always goes downhill at the speed of light.

I do have a question, are Breath of Gale, Claw of Razors, Strength of Mountains, and Magic of the World all different schools? If so how will characters find each other?

For one, dragonets are all raised as one clutch to prevent parental favoritism, so they've all at least encountered each other. Second, the 'schools' are more like disciplines; there are dragons who teach those specific methods of combat and improvement, as opposed to physical school buildings.

Third, the power of Plot will drive them together once the kickstart happens.

Edited the topmost post (heh, rhymed) for character sheet specifications.
