Skyla sat at the tavern bar. She looked almost in deep contemplation, as if trying to mull over what the next move should be. She looked over at Rai, "Hey, Rai... do you have anything you can think of? I almost feel lost, y'know?"

It was as if on time when Skyla suddenly felt a strong pull in her heart. Visions flashed across her eyes of a desert. Those visions turned from sand into sandstone. Then those visions turned into buildings, ruins, of a destroyed civilization. A kingdom. A palace.

The visions subsided and Skyla's sight returned to normal. Skyla felt an unnatural pain in her head and heart as these visions flashed but faded as the visions did, "Ngh... damnit..." she said clutching her head.

Rai and Skyla sat there in the tavern at a wooden table, both looking deep in thought and exhausted. Which was the case here. So much had happened over the past few...days, weeks? Rai didn't even know. He lost track of time after a while. What month was it? December? No, it was too hot. June? August?

Rai sighed and rubbed his eye as the events raced back and forth through his mind.

Mika's venture to save Skyla was successful, they found her and they their reunion. Although it was rather short lived. They fought knights, The Death Knight to be specific, a dragon too. And though it had started off with four of them, it was just down to Rai and Skyla now. Mateo departed from them on a personal journey to cure himself of his family's curse, and Mika...

Rai glanced over at Skyla, analyzing her. She looked so...empty now. Rai's face softened slightly in pity and sympathy for her. After Mika's death to the Death Knight...she just didn't seem the same.

Just then, Skyla finally spoke up, breaking their long silence. She asked Rai what he could think of, as she was feeling lost.

Rai just shrugged a bit. He didn't know either. What were they supposed to do now? Maybe it was time they split ways as well and return to their lives from before.

Nah, I can't do that. Rai thought.

How could he go back to being a bounty hunter after the things that had happened? The man who killed Mika was still roaming free, and Rai had failed to save him. How could he call himself a protector after that? And even if he did want to go back, he hadn't reported to the Bounty Bar is a while. He'd probably have been blacklisted by now.

Rai began to answer Skyla, when he heard her grunt in discomfort and looked up to see her clutching her head. He reached over and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"You okay?" Rai asked, his voice soft and concerned. "Exhaustion catching up to you?"

Rai stood and went over to the bar and asked for a mug of water. Once he got it, he sat back down and poured some salt in the water before sliding it over to Skyla.

"Here. This might help. You're probably dehydrated."

Skyla took the water from Rai and took a drink from, "No, it's not that." She turned to Rai, "I got flashes of a desert. A ruined civilization..." She paused for a moment, "I think it was my home. I think it was the Desert Kingdom. Something's calling me back, I think."

Skyla sighed. She was still lost but at least now she had a direction, "I think I should investigate. There could be something there that could help us against that Knight."

Rai took his hand off Skyla's shoulder and rested it on the table.

"Hold on...against the knight?" he echoed, raising an eyebrow. "Skyla.."

Rai looked around for a moment, making sure no one was listening, and then scooted closer to Skyla. He sighed and leaned in.

"You're not thinking of going after that knight right now...are you?" Rai asked, his voice laced with worry and uncertainty.

Skyla shook her head, "Well, not right now. We'd get killed." She looked away, "But after everything he's done, I can't just let him go." She once more looked at Rai, "Besides, it's my home. I'm from the Desert Nation before it was destroyed... or at least that's what my aunt always told me."

She got up, "So whether or not you come with me, i'm going to do this... I have to."

Rai's eyes widened as Skyla stood up. He quickly grabbed her wrist.

"Wait, wait, wait," he said. "Let's talk about this."

He pulled Skyla down, guiding her back to her seat. Rai sighed before continuing.

"I understand. But...if this 'Desert Nation' was destroyed, then where are you even going to? What else are we gonna find but just...sand?"

Rai sighed again, and then met eyes with Skyla. "I'm not gonna let you go by yourself, that's for sure. I want to—I have to—protect you, Skyla. We've come too far to split now. I didn't even wanna leave Mateo to go cure himself on his own, but, he was just so insistent on it, nothing we said would make him budge. But I can't let that happen again. So best believe I'm gonna accompany you. Just, please...make this make sense, Skyla. I don't want us to go risk our lives chasing a ghost nation."

Skyla sat down, "You're right. It is a ghost nation. My aunt told me of it's destruction years ago..." She locked eyes with Rai, "...but if there's even an inkling of hope that my home can be restored, we better take it. Have you not heard of the military might of the Desert Nation? It was the foremost in both Military power and tactics... then... poof. It was destroyed-- lost to the sands."

She sighed and put her hand on Rai's, "If it is the case that the Desert Nation can be restored, don't you think that knight would be after it too? If he got it's military might, it'd be over for everyone else. If my... these visions are telling any truth or guiding me-- or us-- in a direction that could benefit us... we should take it, don't you think?"

Skyla's words...made sense. She had a point, Rai had to admit. If this nation was truly this powerful, if it really existed and was a powerhouse, then it'd be a tragedy if the knight gained control over it. And if that knight was willing to terrible things for it—willing to take innocent lives—then maybe, just maybe, all this was true.

Rai's gaze flicked from Skyla's hand on his then back to her eyes.

She seems...serious about this. He thought. And, she's not wrong.

Rai took a slow, deep breath.

"You're right," he finally agreed. "Those 'visions' can't just be happening for no reason. There's a meaning behind them. So...let's at least check it out first. But first signs of it being a trap or fake and we're out of there. I'll come along."

Rai then leaned in and placed both hands on Skyla's shoulders, leaning in to look her in the eyes. Smirking, he shook her gently.

"But first, you and I both need to get some rest. And I have to get my katana to a blacksmith. There's all sorts of chips and dents in it now. Let's just take a quick day or two off, okay? I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted."

Skyla sighed and nodded, "On that note... yes, I suppose I am tired." She got up and requested a couple rooms for a couple nights. Before she headed up for the night, she looked over at Rai, "Thank you, Rai. It really means a lot that you'll come with me to my homeland." She gave him weak smile then retreated to her room.

The Next Day...Days until Departure: 1

Skyla got up from the bed which soft and warm. A much needed rest was achieved. She stretched and went to throw on some clothes, a tattered brown jacket and a white shirt with blue pants and black shoes. Her signature look at this point. She left her after fixing her hair in her ponytail and walked down the hall, knocking on Rai's door as she did. She didn't wait for him, instead going to sit at the bar to wait for him.

At the sound of the knock, Rai stirred awake gently, groaning gently as he stretched. Sitting up, he dangled his legs over the side of the bed and rubbed his eyes. He had finally been able to get some comfortable rest after all that fighting. Rai still felt a bit sore, of course, but generally felt so much better.

He stood and did a few morning stretches. Each little pop that sounded elicited a soft grunt. After a few, he was done.

Rai looked over at his stained and tattered haori. Every single bit of it reminded him of the hassle of the past few days. He couldn't wear that. It was now dirty, uncomfortable, and it reeked. Of course, he wasn't gonna throw it away. His mother had sewn it for him. But for now...

Sorry, mom. I'm gonna pass up on that today. Rai thought, grimacing.

So, after cleaning his teeth and mouth, Rai found a place in the inn where garments and jewelry were being sold. He bought himself a few garments and accessories, putting them on before heading out to the bar. He wore a long pearl necklace, small crescent earrings, and a metal band around his shoulder. And finally, Rai tied some of his hair into a small bun and let the rest hang. His garments left his looking mostly shirtless, but covered enough to keep him comfortable.

As Rai stepped back into the bar, he quickly spotted Skyla and sat down beside her.

"Morning, Skyla." greeted Rai. "Finally get some sleep?"

Skyla looked at Rai and noticed his new look, "Well, well aren't we looking handsome. Got some new jewelry, I see?" She teased him and chuckled lightly, "To answer your question, yes I did finally sleep. The place was rather comfortable."

Skyla turned to face, crossing her legs and leaning on the bar, "So I figure since we shouldn't delay any longer, we can use today to go to various shops, namely smith shops, and get some new armor, equipment and perform maintenance on our weapons and then set off tomorrow morning."

She got up, "First... I wanna upgrade my gear." Her gear was, expectedly, tattered and ripped. Her legs were showing skin is some places, her jacket was torn all over and her shirt was... well, we don't talk about her shirt, "What do you say, wanna hit up the smith first?"

"Yeah, I feel you on that gear part." Rai chuckled as he examined Skyla's disgruntled appearance. "Had to ditch my haori for now 'cause it was so damaged."

Rai stood and reached into his bag for his katana. He unsheathed it just a bit, showing the dents, chips, and stained blood.

"Let's hurry to the blacksmith before my katana starts to deteriorate."

Skyla smiled and got up.

The pair left for the smith shop. The city was bustling as usual, the market stalls and shops were bombarded with shoppers but their destination was just ahead. The both arrived at the shop, "Alright, i'll be right back." Skyla immediately went browsing and found a set of armor she wanted.

She purchased the armor and then went to go change into it immediately. She left to Rai to get his weapon repaired and, after a minute or two, came out with her new armor. She looked at Rai and asked, "How does it look?"

As Skyla went to find armor and change, Rai visited the blacksmith.

The rhythmic clang of hammer on steel echoed through the dimly lit forge, the scent of burning coal thick in the air. Rai stepped inside, his katana resting in its sheath, though he could feel every imperfection along the blade. He had pushed it too hard—too many clashes, too many reckless strikes. It needed fixing.

The blacksmith, a burly figure with soot-streaked arms, glanced up from his work. He wiped sweat from his brow, narrowing his eyes as Rai approached.

"Let me guess. You need that blade patched up."

Rai unsheathed the katana and turned it in the light, revealing the nicks and chips along the edge. "Yeah... I might’ve gotten a little carried away. It was either my blade or my life, so I wasn’t exactly thinking about longevity."

The blacksmith took the katana, inspecting it with a practiced eye. He ran a thumb along the edge, his expression tightening. "Tch. You’re lucky it didn’t snap on you. Looks like you went straight through armor a few times. You should know better than to treat a katana like a cleaver."

Rai chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "I don’t usually make a habit of it, but, you know… desperate times."

The blacksmith shook his head and set the blade down. "I’ll need to heat it, hammer out the worst of the damage, then grind and sharpen it. It won’t take forever, but don’t rush me. You want this done right, yeah?"

"Yeah, yeah, take your time," Rai said, stepping back as the blacksmith moved to the forge. He watched as the older man placed the blade into the glowing embers, the steel turning a deep orange.

"So," Rai started, crossing his arms. "How many poor saps come in here with busted weapons like mine?"

The blacksmith smirked as he pulled the blade from the fire, resting it on the anvil. "Enough to keep me busy. Though most of them don’t fight like wild animals. You must swing with everything you’ve got."

Rai chuckled softly. The guy wasn't completely wrong. But it wasn't Rai swinging as hard as he could, it was him swinging as fast as he could. "What can I say? I like to finish things quickly."

The blacksmith chuckled and brought the hammer down, striking with precision, shaping the blade back to form. Sparks danced with every hit, the steel gradually smoothing out. Rai leaned against a post, watching the process with genuine interest.

"Y’know, I actually admire this kind of work," Rai mused. "I go out there and use the blade, but you’re the one making sure it can keep up. If you weren’t around, I’d probably be swinging a dull stick by now."

The blacksmith grunted as he worked, though a smirk tugged at his lips. "At least you know who’s keeping you alive."

Once the hammering was done, he carried the blade to a grinding wheel, spinning it with his foot as he pressed the steel against the stone. Sparks flew, the hiss of cooling water following between passes. Rai listened to the rhythm, the methodical process almost hypnotic.

After what felt like only minutes, the blacksmith straightened up, inspecting the katana under the forge’s glow. Satisfied, he gave the blade a final polish before handing it back. "Should be good as new. Try not to wreck it so soon."

Rai took the weapon, running his fingers along the now-flawless edge. "No promises." He flashed a grin before sliding it back into its sheath. "But if I do, I know where to come."

The blacksmith sighed, shaking his head. "Yeah, yeah. Now get out of here before I start charging extra for reckless customers."

Rai chuckled and gave a casual wave as he stepped out, the familiar weight of his katana once again balanced at his side—ready to get back to cutting.

Rai went back to the armory where he saw Skyla just now getting out of the closet, donning a new set of armor and clothing. It was a mixture of elegant and adventurous, which you guess could describe Skyla herself.

Rai smiled and looked Skyla up and down. "Look at you. Looking like you're about to take down an army in style." He tapped his sheathe. "We all ready?"

Skyla smiled sheepishly at Rai's compliment, "Oh you know it!" She giggled.

Skyla nodded when Rai asked if she was ready, "One moment." She brushed by Rai gently and walked up to the smith and pulled the lance off her back and showed it to him, "What can you do?"

The smith took lance and examined it, "Well, well... is this laced with ebony?" The blade revealed little to no damage along the blade, "It's in like-new condition... the craftsmanship is sublime... what exactly did you want me to do?"

Skyla looked at the man, "Well, if you could sharpen its edge a bit... that'd be nice... oh and you can use this-" she pulled her sword off her back, "-as material... or payment if needed." The glanced at her then nodded, "It'll take me a few hours to work the ebony in this but.. come by tomorrow and it'll be done." Skyla nodded, "Thank you, sir." The smith grunted and Skyla turned to walk towards Rai, motioning to leave, "Shall we?"

With that, the pair made their way to the library. Upon reaching the building, they entered and found a sprawling area full of bookshelves, "Well... this is a lot of books."

!!!SPELLSLOTS AND HP LOST WHILE IN THIS FIGHT ARE NOT CARRIED OVER WHEN THE PAIR RETURNS FROM THIS WIERD REALM!!!Skyla went and looked at the world history section. She ended up finding a book about a lost nation, 'A Brief History, Vol. 2' was the name of the book. She opened the book and she and Rai were taken to what seemed like a new world but really it was Serana's domain. How they ended up here after opening a book is unclear and probably very confusing but they were taken straight to an arena-like area with bone-piles in each of the four corners. The book that took them here wasn't here but they could both hear the roaring of a dragon.

The roars got closer and closer until finally they could see the source. It was a dragon, an Undead one. It dripped death and decay. It flew around for a moment and then perch on an archway. It stared at Rai and Skyla for a moment before looking upwards and opening its mouth where an orb flew up and towards the center and then split off into four smaller orbs that traveled to each of the bone-piles in the corner.

Skyla stumbled back and looked around, lookin g just as confused as Rai.

It wasn't long before they were beset on all sides by the Undead which were summoned by that dragon that showed up earlier.

One of the Bonemen came up and swung at Skyla but luckily she was quick enough to evade it. The other Boneman walked up to Rai and swung its claws at Rai. They were outnumbered and getting surrounded. This was looking VERY bad for them...

Skyla tried to swung her bow to maybe try and damage the creature but the attack seemed to do nothing to it, "Well.. shit... this is bad, Rai!"

Skyla braced herself as the creature's claw came swinging down at her, she wasn't ready as the claw did more damage and was stronger then she expected. She retaliated with a Dragon's Breath Arrow which incinerated the Boneman to ash in one shot. Skyla tilted her head, "What...? Rai did you see that?"

She turned to Rai, "Rai! It only takes one hit!" She said loudly so Rai could hear her.

Boneman D takes a swing at Rai and misses, stumbling back 2 steps from the recoil.

Rai wasted no time in his next move. Skyla had just confirmed an easy takedown, and the bone man before him was off balance.

But, Rai was just as clumsy and slipped forward as he unsheathed his katana, crashing into the bone man instead. He hit the ground with a thud.

Skyla snickered as Rai hit the ground with a thud, "Little rusty there, Rai?"

The Boneman took advantage of Rai's clumsiness and struck, landing it's claws on Rai's body yet again. Skyla fumbled a bit to draw her bow, "Shit, sorry!" With that and arrow formed in the bowstring and she loosed it at the Boneman attacking Rai. After landing her hit she ran over to help Rai up, "On your feet, we've still got two more. You take right, I take left?"

At this point the dragon spoke, "Dii lahvu los Unslaad!"
