Poetry La Vie en Rose

hostage

tree hugger
Our goal should be
First to walk the earth
To see
To feel
To learn

Our goal should be
Second to build a home
Of living wood
Of dirt and stone
Of love and happiness

Our goal should be
Third to step outside
To see the wold around us
To feel the cold breeze brushing skin
To learn to hear the voices of ancients

Our goal should be
Fourth to return to our home
Of warm acceptance
Of order and patience
Of quiet murmerings and silent thoughts

Our goal should be
To speak to the world
To protect those who have not a thing
To possess an affinity
Of listening to the signals

And when we are worn out
From finishing our duties
We return home and appreciate
The comfort and bliss
Of a place to rest.

Silence:
This poem is based off of a recent canoe trip I went on for a couple of weeks and the troubles I had being reintroduced to “society“ after.

I find myself gone
Drifting away from the chatter of life
On a canoe of thoughts
That carries me down a river and across a lake

And I carry my canoe
Of heavy quiet and deep dark deranged words
Across the swampy marshes of otherness
Knowing that if I lose my balance
My weight will fall, never to be hefted again

But I push on
Through the sore joints and aching muscles
Getting through by listening
Watching as the trees bend inwards as if to say
“You are almost there!“

And when I reach the end of the path
I set my canoe down
To drift away again
Navigating the serene waters

Refreshing as it may be, the journey always comes to an end
As I draw near to the shoreline
I can see the tendrils of smoke rising from my home
The rocky beach grows closer
And I am forced to climb out of my boat

I lift the canoe once more
Trudging across the slippery stones
And setting the boat on its mahogany pedestal
But I soon realize as I catch the sun glinting off the metal hide
That my burden, though sitting before me, is still resting on my shoulders

The rapids of life and movement
Threaten to drown me in a neverending battle to be heard
But I can always rely on my canoe
Though so silent, it can spirit me away from the grasp of overwhelming noise.

And even though I know
That one day it will end
I feel so lucky
Having you as my friend

You lift me up
When I am in pain
And without you here
I have nothing to gain

Though we are far
Miles away
With your support
I shall not lead astray

You are my best friend
So I write these lines
Knowing you listen closely
And our friendship shines

I miss you.
