Personality: Kouya's circumstances have lead her to be known as a introverted and pensive woman, although she is said to be kind and loyal to those she counts as friends, though they are understandably few and far between. She is uncomfortable in the spotlight and prefers small gatherings of intimate friends over lavish parties, which her title now dictates as per the usual. She can usually be found with her nose in a book, especially in times of stress, when she is known to use them as an escape.
Kouya's childhood has left her with insecurities about her self worth and what she can contribute to her people. These feelings of ineptitude have lead to her losing control of her water manipulation abilities on more than one occasion, further leading her to doubt herself.
Kouya's close friends have gone a long way to help build up her confidence, showing her that even though she wasnt groomed for the job, she will be able to overcome the challenges laid before her with the wisdom and knowledge she was cultivated over the years.
History: The elderly Junichi and Misato Hisakawa had spent most of their adult lives readying their son Junkei to take over their estate and title upon their deaths.
Rarely did they feel it necessary to dote on their younger child Kouya, as she would undoubtably lead a less promising life. It was this biased attitude that lead their daughter to be raised by tutors and family elders, and it wasn't uncommon for her to go months without seeing her parents. Kouya in equal parts resented and worshipped her older brother from afar, she always wondered what sort of spark was missing from within herself that their parents saw in him. As the years went by she went out of her way to avoid her brother, unable to face him since she felt like such an after thought to her parents.
Kouya grew to be a studious student and eventually devoted herself to the pursuit of knowledge with an obsessive fervor. The girl quickly found that she was most enamoured with the study of the flora and fauna of Meyurai, especially of those that made their home on land. She believed that her books, and the stories therein, were all the company she needed. The characters within couldn't look down at her and judge her unfit or less than, the way that people could.
Life went on this way for some time for the young Hisakawa up until one of her favorite tutors Setsuna passed away from old age. It was then a friend of the family was brought in to school her, and when she came so did her twin daughters Nemu and Reki. Kouya couldn't have known it then, but these two would grow up to be her closest confidants and lifelong friends. They saw something special in her and the kindness she displayed even in the face of adversity and it helped cement their bonds of friendship. While they didnt always see eye to eye, especially when it came to men and romance, they have helped support and build up her spirit and now act in any capacity needed under her as representative.
It had been a night like any other, after having dinner with Nemu and Reki, Kouya retired to her rooms to finish studying a quickly wilting and summarily waterlogged Hikitodai flower from the surface. She couldn't have been certain of the hour unto which she'd fallen asleep, although it was certainly late. The next thing she remembered though was being wrestled from her futon by unknown harsh hands, and being lead blind down the corridors of her home. Her captors rushed her through the streets, swimming at what seemed an impossible speed to the frightened girl, eventually they stopped after what felt like a dizzying amount of time. She was shaking and frightened beyond belief, as she was seated in a lush chair and allowed to remove her blinder. Kneeling before her were two of her parents guards, bruised and broken, one of the men, Renpaki she believed he was called, was visibly shaken to point of tears. He was the one who spoke to her then, obliterating her simple life with but a few words spoken in a heart wrenching quiver.
"I am ....so sorry milady.....please forgive us the harbingers of this news.....Masters Junichi and Misato are dead, ..... young master Junkei had been spotted fleeing their chambers covered in blood...." Renpaki paused then, wiping his eyes, in an attempt to regain his composure. Kouya sat curled into the large chair feeling as small as a minnow drifting on high tide. In between halted breathes the man continued. " Your brother upon being spotted.... gave chase, milady I am so sorry, but many of the guard were gravely wounded in the process, and as many of my men bled out on the sea floor.....Junkei evaded capture. We knew then that young mistress Kouya was to be protected....if we had to lay down our lives, we would bring you to safety." he was overcome then by sobbing and kowtowed before Kouya, a truly broken man.
It was in this manner that over the course of one chilly autumn morning, Kouya was named representative of the Hisakawa and thrust into a tumultuous world of politics and clan affairs that she'd longed for her whole life, but never in her wildest dreams had she imagined it happening like this. Standing before a funeral pyre, mourning the incomprehensible loss of everything she had come to hold dear.
