After the meeting she dawdled a bit as the others left, pretending to comb tangles out of her tail, then went up to the guild master, pledging that she was going to do her best on this quest together with the others so that afterwards Calla won't have any problems. She hesitated, and then encouragingly added, "May your ancestors watch over you, Calla!", before bowing respectfully, stealing a glance at the undead cat, and then going off to the docks.

She was pleased to learn that Helios was going to be with them in the quest and waited for him and the rest of her guild mates by their ship, her backpack on the ground beside her, and chatting up the captain who was to charter them to their destination and learning the names of the crew.

The air was salty and overhead seagulls cawed. Clouds lazily passed by on a stiff easterly wind, as the waves of the sea lapped the bottom of the barnacle encrusted ship. Tanned-skinned sailors moving about crates and supplies grunted their heave-ho's under the flapping of the white-washed sails. Parfa told the captain that she hoped the weather stays this good in their journey, as the breeze picked up and sent her embroidered garbs and green cloak bellowing about, and ruffled her braided mane.
Calla gave Parfa a small smile before they headed off. "Remember, you are representing our guild out there all of you. Be sure to leave a good impression and be careful. These draconian beings may be hostile, be smart not strong. Though, between all of you I doubt they could take you on. " The guild master chuckled a bit. "Good luck all of you, Miss Arleth," she paused "shall leave you as the leader of this endeavor." Calla was unsure about them all going with out her but most of her members were relatively new. At least Arleth had been out on a quest before. Once they set off with their journey Calla went on to Roland and Henry. Well it seemed to be just Roland now.

"Well when Mr. Sask joins you I believe you two will be set to go." She approached Roland. "You'll be traveling to the cost of Dracoviran, the dragons and Dreac should not bother you but be wary, they do keep watch of their lands. They should already get my letter about our guild affairs happening over there. If anything happens I'm sure you'll find a way to contact me." She had yet to think up of an easy way for that. It was the last thing on her mind this morning. Everyone would be fine.

Everyone will be fine.

III

Raven sets off on his journey to Tbjornar, being sent on his way by Calla. She arranged a smaller vessel already on route to the dwarven kingdom for Raven to travel on. “Remember, you are representing our guild out there Raven. I trust you will leave a good ring to our name out on your own. Dwarves are crafty to say the least, and secretive. By allowing you to enter their mountains they are openly making way to a more open domain.” She paused. “Just don’t look for things that will give them a reason to keep you there. I’ve been told you will not go deep into the mountains, but still beware for Imps.” She paused again and thought for a moment. “Be careful with those spirits. They spread word quickly among their own. Do not let this guild be a targeted haunting ground.” With that, she let him go. Looking a tab tired this day but still putting an effort to be helpful and polite.

III

“Yes boss, I’ll try my best to keep the honor of the Guild and not earn any ire while doing so. Just a few question before I depart. What are Dwarven cultures that i should be aware of? Also you should rest more Boss, humans require more rest than most of your race think they need.” Raven spoke as he double checked his gear and provisions for the trip. He equipped his sword and bow for the boat but packed his axe for the caves and forest he will be passing.

III

Calla almost chuckled at his remark. What he said was true, though she must truly be exhausted if others would buy it as a human trait. The guild master took a moment to think. “ There are many types of dwarves in Tbjornar and they are very separated from each other despite being in one unified state. Be careful with what you say, as a Chimera some may resent you, I would say very little to goblins and hobgoblins in front of others. Though you should mostly be in contact with this shop owner, most other dwarfs dwell deeper in the caverns. Do not be late, do not look bored. Lastly, do not stray from the main paths in the mountains.” Calla gave him her warnings and hoped he’d abide by them. The last thing she needed was to go looking for a centaur lost in a maze of tunnels. “And I’ll do my best to get rest Raven. Thanks and good luck.”

III

Raven nodded at the information taking it all in though it reveals how little Raven has remembered his lesson on the world as a whole. “Thank you very much boss, but just one more question. Why are Chimeras not looked upon positively? I feel my naivety is getting the best of me. And worry not about me getting lost in the caves, I have learn a earth spell to help give be a general layout of my surroundings though that would not really help I get too deep before I notice haha. Also I do not remember Gobins that live near other races being too hostile. I thought that Orcs were the more volatile race?” Raven asked with a slightly confused face as he tries to search his memories for his Social Studies.

III

“You are higher on the spectrum than the dwarves. Some may feel you look down upon them… metaphorically. They take their on internal classes to heart and more so the hekkaspectrum. Many dwarves have this concept of purity among them and a chimera challenges that. I’m confident though you will not cause much trouble through those means. As far as orcs, their volatile nature stems from their beliefs, though many are not quite like that. Is there anything else you’d like to know before heading on your way? If you are in need of assistance a simple teleportation spell should bring your message right to me.” Calla explained, glad he asked a few questions. At least know she knew more of the extent of his knowledge. Though, she should come up with a better way to contact them all in case of emergencies.

III

“Mmmmm Weird. I thought the crafting culture of dwarves would lend themselves to like being lower on the scale and have greater access to exoteric magics to enchant their wares. That is how the few dwarves in my town did their work. Purity is such a odd concept to me though. It really hard to imagine why one would think purity is all one needs. Also I understand not all Orcs are mindlessly violent like how all Chimera are not open minded to mixed villages but ones cultures make races lean in predictable ways. Is that closed-minded of me? Also I do not know how teleportation spell work. I have a whisper spell that sends my voice into the winds to others but crossing countries is new.” Raven feeling happier with his new info but more question just raise to the surface. He notes to himself to learn more at the guild library when he can.

III

Calla pondered his words. “Oh. Hm.. Just a moment.” She headed back into the hall and came back with a piece of parchement. “Its enchanted to write using your thoughts. Its old paper and I have few sheets but it will work and it will show up on the parchment pair. I had a relative give these to me a long time ago. They were for sending love letter but for this purpose it will be much more useful.” he handed the paper to him. “I suppose the close mindedness is an answer you’ll have to figure out. I see no qualms with it but that is my own opinion” She stated simply. “You should hurry the captain doesn’t want to wait long. Like I said, don’t be late.”

III

Raven was confused for a second before he turned to the timepiece the guild has displayed in the hall. He gasped at the time and quickly shuffled back and forth to load his saddlebags and tighten the straps. “Right Boss. Thanks for the letters, I’ll use them for emergency or when the time comes. I guess I’ll have to figure somethings out on my own! Bye Boss, Rest well!” After that, Raven ran out the Guild Hall to the docks.

III

She wished she thought of the paper before sending everyone else off. Maybe next time.

After Calla had finished her farewells to the others leaving on their own journeys she went back to Pyotr. She was told UVB would stay behind, Naria would keep an eye on him. The cat kept out of the rooms mostly out of courtesy but this time she would slip in while UVB stayed behind. There was little the feline could do to stop anything terrible from happening but it could warn Calla in its own way. No matter where the fae was.

“Alright Mr. Abakumov,” She did her best to pronounce the name. “We will be heading to the capital Island of Kolan. I’ve arranged for us a small vessel to ferry us there. Follow me to the dock. It’s our turn to depart.”

“On ship”

As they finished their breakfast and were called to a meeting for their missions, Helios was glad that he would be working with Parfa; as she’s the only one who he knew by name. He hoped to get along well with the other guild members.

Staring at the guildmaster, seeing that she’s still tired, the dragconian healer once again thought of making something to sooth her somehow. ‘Seems like I’m not the only one who noticed this time.’ He thought warmly as Parfa went up to Calla. Listening to her words, however, made him snorted; agreeing with her. His kind is aggressive, but there’s usually a reason behind them. Dreacs fight with Dragons in their traditional rite but he wondered what caused the odd pair to fight recklessly and in the middle of a town.

He can only hope that he doesn’t need his superhuman strength or it might give him away to the mentioned dragconian pair. He started to wonder if she noticed his ears? Probably not. They just met for a second time.

“Of course. We won’t let you down, Ma’am.” Helios reassured calmly, nodding at Calla before his green eyes rolled to the silent knight who is the leader of their group. He waved goodbye to everyone at the guild before going to the ship.

He couldn’t help but smile when he saw Parfa talking with the captain as he got on the ship; not surprised that she was being social again. Helios gripped his bag’s worn-out strap tight as he breathed in the ocean air, just listening in the chatter as he peeked over the ship’s railings to see the dark silhouettes of the fishes below. Muttering in his excitement of seeing a new place already.

Roland had been more than happy to retell the entire story of their quest to everyone, but he kept glancing around to see if Henry would come out. They had planned to go on another quest together and the description made it seem quite easy. A relatively relaxed quest after such an intense one would do wonders to the both of them. It was a win-win situation since they get to relax and still earn some quest points for the Raven Guild. He didn't really care much for the competition with the Wolf Guild but it would be nice to be able to see a celebration. He was sure the Wolf Guild was also doing their best though! He then sat down when that was over and tilted his head curiously when Calla seems to still be tired despite having had rest. He told her to rest well after all! However, he decided not to confront her about that currently because there was a busy day in front of them.

After waving goodbye to Helios and Parfa as they set on their own journey, Roland decided to gather his weaponry and headed off to the docks, figuring that Henry would simply just wait for them there. While he was waiting at the docks, he had been checking his inventory of arrows. He didn't have an unlimited amount and he had bought some on the way just because of the fact that he might need some more. The quest wasn't for fighting but he couldn't be too careful. They were going into unfamiliar territory - dragons and draecs aren't exactly the most welcoming bunch. So these were just precautions.

When Calla approached, he gave her a warm smile and nodded. "Ah, thank you Miss Calla! We will be off as soon as Henry arrives." He said with a definite nod, knowing that the vampire was still very tired from the previous quest and didn't blame him on being late. His eyes then grew worried. "You don't seem very rested Miss Calla. I do wish you be careful. Being very tired on a quest does not seem very ideal." His tone was laced with genuine concern, honesty always came easily to Roland especially when it came to caring for others. "If you have any problems Miss Calla, don't be a stranger! You've helped us plenty and I always pay back my debts!" He continued with a bright smile to reassure her. Normally, he would have gone for a pat on the shoulder but stopped as he realized that she was a superior and not just a normal drinking buddy. So he just gave her an enthusiastic nod before waving her off as she went to other groups to make sure that they were fine.

"Helped you plenty, perhaps. For me, I've been taking charge of slaying snakes in the grass and then getting chastised for it."

The vampire called out as he pulled into view. He had a different set of silk clothing now, with silver tertiary colors but black was still the primary. His enchanted cloak was wrapped around his frame and the hood keep the sunlight from burning his face off.

Something he could use a lot less of considering the events that transpired last night.

Naturally, the wounds had greatly mended thanks to how much he fed afterwards but it wasn't an exaggeration to say Henry was on knocking on death's door last night. Even a vampire's healing after a fresh feeding couldn't heal all that damage in one go. That being said, what he lacked in vitality, he made up for in pride. Not many people can say they went toe to toe with a damned Fae and not only lived to tell the tale, but actually managed to sneak a victory.

Pride didn't erase the minor limp he had nor the tendency to favor his right side. Even his left eye remained closed as it had not fully healed yet. The sunlight was far too bright for such a fresh eye.

His open right eye still gleamed crimson and held a certain amount of smugness as he approached the pair that had been waiting for him. Roland would assume Henry's comment was referring the dark elemental on their previous quest and he would be half right. As for the other half.... well....

"But such is the fate of men like me to do whatever is necessary to keep people safe." He came to a stop before the two and looked at them both for a moment before smiling, "Or maybe I'm just a scumbag who doesn't trust anyone. Who knows?" He said with a light chuckle.

The vampire's single-eyed gaze flicked to Calla Rose for a moment before returning to Roland, "Before you ask, there are barely any locals who are okay with having a vampire nearby. I was tired yesterday and forgot to hide my eye color. They came after me with fire when I wasn't looking." He lied smoothly. Henry was going to tell Roland most of the truth but only after they had gotten far enough away from the guild leader. He was simply going to explain who he fought with and that he won. As for the reason, Henry did promise to keep that secret. Unlike Calla's late lover, Henry and Roland were honest men of their words. Despite appearances.

She would see that soon enough.

"Let's get moving, Roland. The sun has never been my ally but today in particular it is a nuisance." He said with a pained grunt as he limped past the Roland to start heading towards their mission. Calla had already moved on to the other groups.

Calla said nothing to the vampire. He looked worse for wear. Almost wanted to smirk at his state but kept from it and moved on. He would need to see a healer soon, her skills in healing weren't the best and it seemed the meal helped. Though was the vampire really good to go on a quest? Even an easy one? At least Roland could take care of him should he fall.

They duo was met with a familiar vessel and a familiar face. "AYE GET YOUR ASSES ON THIS SHIP OR WE'RE LEAVING WITH OUT YOU." Anahita called out to them and laughed as her crew set down the gangplank for them. "Dracoviran this time I hear? Seems you two are set on sailing the world eh? " She said meeting with them as they boarded. "Aye Sask you look like death. You sure you're up for such a trip?" The captain looked at him worriedly. The vampire looked like he was Keelhauled in a rocky cove. "We've got mages if you want them to take a look. Always keep a healer on board." She said and then got her crew to get the ship moving.

There was no movement made by Arleth as everyone made it down to the dining hall and broke their fast. She silently observed their interactions and finished her apple in time for Tzeentch to fly down from the dormitories with a shred of flesh from his most recent prey dangling from his beak. The large black bird quickly worked his beak, simultaneously chewing and gulping down the raw meat before carefully preening his feathers as his mistress slipped away from the wall in order to dispose of her fruit's core.

The only time that the Half Fae paid any significant mind to any of the individuals entering the dining hall was when Calla joined them, and even then she only returned the greeting offered with one equally as simple. Fraternizing wasn't something to which Arleth was particularly accustomed and so she would have been lying if she had said her mild discontent wasn't somewhat alleviated when they all ventured to the meeting room to select their tasks.

Selecting a quest was easy enough, while she may have preferred to complete an assignment on her own, the prospect of witnessing a confrontation between a Draec and a Dragon and quite possibly putting an end to it, was an opportunity much too interesting to pass up. So it was decided that she would join a relatively large group when one took into consideration the number of people that had joined the guild, mostly comprised of individuals she had not yet met, as they ventured forth to complete their job.

As per her custom, Arleth had not taken a seat in the meeting room, preferring to remain near the door casually leaning with her back against the wall and Tzeentch perched on her shoulder. Only did she move once all had been decided, setting her foot that had been flat on the wall once more upon the floor as the attendees of the meeting began to move around and make their way out. While her eyes followed them each as they left, her head did not turn until Calla spoke her name, it was then that she focused those ever color changing orbs on the guild leader, showing her attention. Once her charge was given, Arleth gave a single nod and the slight bow with her fist against her chest that was typical of her before turning on her heel and leaving the room.

Once her particular party were all aboard their ship and after she had made an introduction to the Captain, she had made her way to the forecastle deck, if anything just to enjoy the breeze as it mussed the sleek black strands that framed her face. Tzeentch seemed to enjoy it too as he had not been able to travel with her on the last mission and seemed to get his own sort of cabin fever despite Arleth having left the window open so that he could come and go as he pleased. Or maybe it was just that she was basically his mother since she had raised him from a young age and so he had missed her. Whatever his reasoning was, his breast feathers ruffled and he looked rather majestic as he remained perched on Arleth's shoulder, which was probably a good thing on account of the gulls that had already claimed the sky above the ship.

The leader of their ship was Captain Grimshaw, a sunburnt old sea dog with a grey wiry beard, one ear, one eye, one gold tooth, one arm that ended in a hook, and a peg leg that ended in a heavy looking flintlock pistol that had a firing mechanism attached to his hip. The rest of his limbs looked like they were once very brawny, but had since long gone into seed. He had a deep booming voice, with a bit of a growl from old age, and assured Arleth with the air of a master of the sea, that he will bring them to their destination safely, "Or my name ain't Captain 'The One' Grimshaw." he added, chuckling.

It was smooth sailing. Their ship, the Bronze Betsy, cut through the calm blue waves easily, and after navigating through the reefs and into open waters, Captain Grimshaw left the helm to his second mate, and was now talking to a couple of his passengers, regaling to some old ladies who looked like they were traveling back home about how he lost his arm wrestling two sharks in a storm and was saved by a dolphin.

Most of the sailors all dawdled around too after they passed the reefs, except for some scrubbing the deck, and one who sat atop the crow's nest keeping constant vigil. The Raven Guild members weren't the only ones aboard. There was a group of sellswords wearing worn armor that showed their experience, gambling with a group of sailors with a deck of cards. They were the loudest and the sellswords seemed to be winning; there was a chubby lady who wore clothes that had too many patches, but was clean, who went around with a wooden box, asking passengers if they would like their shoes shined, their feet massaged, and their nails clipped and cleaned all for a copper piece; her son, who had the same box and wore the same poor clothes, sat on a barrel next to some crates swinging his legs and reading a book. Every now and then he would cough into an old scarf, before burying his nose back into his book. Couple of hours later, a sailor came out of the lower deck with a crate and began yelling that he was selling pickles, eggs, and crackers. The boy looked at the crate longingly before looking back down on his book. There were other children too with their families, some donning blue clothes to celebrate Raven Guild moving ahead of Wolf guild, and some were even playing with wooden figurines of notable members.

There were some who noticed Parfa's emblem and approached her and Helios as they chatted together. They offered congratulations to them for the success of the guild and asked what they were doing now. Parfa wasn't sure if she was allowed to tell folks what they were up to, and so said that she was going to ask Arleth first, whom she told the folks was their leader for the quest they were doing right now. A couple of the folks turned to look at Arleth enjoying the breeze on the deck and her raven.

"Hello, Arleth!" barked Parfa cheerfully behind her as she approached, "I am Parfa Dawnpaw, your teammate, are we allowed to tell folks what we're doing in Shnardlepuf?"

“Bronzed Betsy”

Breathing in the fresh sea breeze as the ship moved past the reef, Helios grinned as he looked up. His sight went past the sailor in the crow’s nest and open sails, watching a flock of seagulls flying by in the wide blue sky.

He finds it ironic that he left home only to deal with those of his own kind once again and so soon too. He can only hope the Draec says nothing about his scent or ears. Same with the dragon.

As he chatted with an excited Parfa and occasionally curiously staring at her wagging floofy tail, Helios perked his head. His forest eyes roamed over to where he heard a familiar sound, peeking at a young boy who is reading. He wondered if he was imagining things only to see it happen; the little boy coughed. So he did hear it, a tiny cough.

Parfa saw Helios’ hand going in his worn-out bag and heard him muttering a list. “Bandages, pastes, leaves —- lemon peels and oranges — okay.” He nodded his head, grinning happily, probably found what he was looking for in his bag. “Excus- h-hm?!”

His narrow eyes widened, freezing in his spot when a family came up to Parfa and him to chat. He took a quick moment to clear his throat, in case his voice didn’t want to work from the surprise. “Thank you, but we’re new members —- I shall let the others know of your thanks.” He said to the curious family. He hummed at their other question: what were they doing now?

“A-ah well —!” Helios couldn’t help but let out a quiet sigh of relief when Parfa piped up to ask Arleth first. Then he froze at a thought: he couldn’t leave the family here too! It would be rude if he did! So he stayed with them as his guildmate walked over to their leader. As the ladies talked, his green eyes had a curious gleam, staring at their leader for the mission ... and her raven. Birds tend to fly away whenever he tried going near them, so to see one this close is a miracle in his books.

What’s more is that he has never seen a pure black feathered bird before —- the birds in the forests are usually browns, yellows, tints of red maybe. No, Roland does not count. He used transformation magic to achieve his bird form and could change it if he ever wanted to.

Not wanting to seem like he was ignoring the family, Helios casually chatted with them; letting them tell him stories of what his guild mates did and achieved. Chuckling whenever their child raved excitedly about the guild’s achievements before his parents could finish their sentence.

There was no evidence of Arleth's affiliation with Kolan's Raven Guild anywhere on her person. She donned no emblems and outside of the introduction to the ship's captain, she was virtually incognito. On the other hand, any onlooker might make the assumption that she was indeed associated with them on account of the companion raven she kept, though Tzeentch and many incarnations of him had been with her for her entire life, or rather lives, prior to the guild. Though she could always rely on the fact that she had not been with the guild for very long and that she had only completed a single quest which also made it unlikely that she was in any way recognizable by appearance or name and so she was relatively left in her solitude.

Arleth's leather gloved fingers were interlaced as her elbows propped her up against the railing of the deck where she leaned. She seemed rather focused on nothing in particular, perhaps the dark blue line on the horizon that marked the place where the sky and the sea met. Every now and then Tzeentch would give a shake of his ruffled feathers and a soft squawk and at times he would raise his wings to allow the wind to lift him slightly while his talons kept hold of his perch, lightly tugging the leather of Arleth's armor where it covered her shoulder. Any nearby chatter of the ship's other passengers was muffled by both the wind and the sound of the waves as the journey proceeded, their voices all sounding quite distant and so relatively easy to ignore, though the Half Fae's path of avoidance was disrupted when one of her guild mates approached.

Parfa Dawnpaw received the same somewhat disinterested analysis that was given to everyone Arleth encountered individually, her iridescent eyes scanning the Chimera for a brief moment before her gaze returned to the seemingly endless blue that surrounded the ship. Tzeentch cocked his head to the side and looked at Parfa curiously with his beady black eye before releasing a caw and giving a few wing flaps that concluded with a full body shake before he began to just randomly glance around at the others aboard the ship. The fingers of one of Arleth's hands raised slightly as she removed a strand of her black hair from where it had been blown by the wind and decided to wrap under her nose, "at the risk of letting down any who ask, I would think it wise not to pass on any information regarding guild business on the off chance that some meddler deem themselves fit enough to upstage the guild and instead become our problem lest they wind up injured or dead."

The statement was made in an entirely factual manner with no interest attached to it, almost as though she were reading it verbatim from a previously written script. There was of course a chance that no one would overhear who was willing to put themselves and others at risk for glory, but Arleth wasn't one to meddle with fortune and so opted not to risk it. Of course it wasn't simply up to her and while her response was given rather curtly, it carried with it the tone of suggestion rather than command. Perhaps if Parfa did say where they were going, someone who was willing to follow and aid would wish to join them, though that wasn't something the Half Fae was relying on.

"D-dead?" stuttered Parfa, looking at Arleth in surprise and disbelief, her ears folded back. She glanced at the family behind them who were looking at the two expectantly, then at Arleth as though the half fae was going to do somethig to them, and then about faced swiftly.

"Er, I'm sorry but we can't tell you where we're going and what we're doing!" called Parfa back at them loudly, smiling and licking her nose nervously. The family awww'd in disappointment, but gave understanding nods; Parfa apprehensively looked back at Arleth, sniffing in her direction, took a deep breath, then cautiously came forward.

"You-you'd really kill a meddler, Arleth?" she whispered, her doggy eyes wide with apprehension. "I-is this how the Raven Guild operates?" she looked like she was regretting joining the guild.

Meanwhile the folks casually went back to chatting with Helios. The kids were asking what kind of warrior he was and if he could show them his secret move, and one sandy haired, freckled, bright-eyed boy holding a figurine of Calla asked: "Is it true you needed to pass a secret test and fight a balrog and then offer its flaming heart to a statue of a giant raven god underground in a secret place before you are accepted into the guild?"

Meanwhile, the boy who was coughing earlier noticed the crowd around Helios and hopped off the barrel, stowing the book in his box. He left it there and came jogging to see what was going on. He did look sickly up close, a bit pale with a yellowish tint in his eyes. He kept his mouth hidden behind his scarf and coughed into it as quietly as he could as he peeked behind the other taller kids.

In her forward leaning position, one of her boots were flat while the other's toe rested on the wooden deck, which was maintained though obviously sea hardened. She made no acknowledgement to Parfa's somewhat distressed question over the matter of meddlers and the misfortune that might befall them, nor did she make any motion when Parfa called back to the inquisitive passengers aboard the ship.

When Parfa sniffed, on the ever present smell of the ocean she could likely catch the faint scent that was Arleth's own organic smell that could be called nothing but calm combined with the smell of lavender and cedar wood, as well as Tzeentch's as he once again flapped his wing's. Of course the latter's smelled mostly of woodlands and marashes but also carried a bit of the smell of his mistress.

The next time Parfa addressed her, Arleth slowly turned her gaze to meet the Chimera's. Though this time her eyes did not shift over the other's form, instead resting immediately on her eyes before her lips began to curve upwards and part, baring both rows of her unusually pointed teeth almost making her look like a shark smiling before she released an amused and brief bout of laughter. It wasn't long before her chuckling subsided and she licked her lips and returned her gaze to the horizon, letting out and content sigh.

"No, I do not believe it is," was the simple answer she offered in response to the Parfa's obvious anxiety. She didn't look back to her to check if she had managed to assuage her guildmate's fears about her decision to join the guild, though her posture did change slightly as she stood more upright, arching her back in a stretch with her fingers interlaced over her head and her palms pressing towards the sky. Tzeentch cawed in annoyance as he was knocked from his perch because of Arleth's movements and hovered above her until she lowered her arms, it was then that he landed back on her shoulder and gave a few agitated tugs of her hair with his beak as he rumbled soft caws at her, though she dismissively but gently brushed his beak away with her fingertips.

Arleth then glanced back to Parfa and spoke in the same cool tone she had been using, her next question coming out in a way that made it seem like a formality, "is there anything else?"

At Parfa’s call back, Helios peeked over his shoulder and nodded, already thinking there was a good reason for not saying anything about the mission. So he distracted the understanding folks by answering their other questions. “I’m a herbalist, so I don’t have a secret move. I know our guildmaster is more likely to have a few stored away.” He chuckled from the kids’ questions, kneeling down to get to their eye level.

Offering a flaming heart to a statue? Sounds more like a cult than a proper guild.

“I can’t really say. It is a secret after all.” Helios teased, chuckling still. “Maybe when you’re bigger in age, then you’ll find out should you want to join.”

That’s when he noticed a new little and- oh! It’s the little boy he wanted to check on before. With a warm smile, he waved the boy to come closer and asked about the book he was reading. As the little boy warmed up after introductions and happily talked about his book, Helios silently took in his symptoms; yellow tinted eyes, coughing, pale skin, and he can see under that scarf is a subtle hint of scales around the neck area crawling up his cheeks.

Merpox. It’s usually harmless to merfolk, kind of like a cold, but to any other being, it’s more like a bad virus. “I see that you’re not feeling well. I’ll make medicine for you if you like?” He asked kindly to the sick boy. If there was a yes, Helios told him to wait as he stood up, coming back to him once he collected one more ingredient for his medication.

And he walked over to his guild mates, nodding in a quiet greeting. “Pardon me, Parfa and Miss Arleth, for interrupting your conversation but ...” Helios’ stance slightly tensed as his back straightened. Slightly nervous for asking. He just doesn’t know how Arleth would react with his odd question and request. “... mind parting one of your friend’s feathers? It doesn’t have to be plucked, loose feathers are good too.”

The freckled boy gasped, shaking his friend's shoulder. "It's real!" They all looked awed at Helios. And proceeded to be like nope, we are not fighting a Balrog. Though from the back of the kids a croaky voice said, "I would!" and it was the little sickly boy. The other kids laughed at him saying he was too scrawny and too poor to even afford a dagger. He just kept silent, but perked up when Helios waved him to come closer.

"Me?" he pointed at himself, then looked behind him as though he was mistaken and thought Helios was referring to someone else. He looked like he couldn't believe someone from the Raven Guild wants to pay attention to him and came forward politely.

"I-I was reading The Daring Trials and Tribulations of Tarion Darrington, sir. " he looked away, covering his mouth with his scarf, as he coughed. "H-he's a hero traveling with a group of adventurers called Vox Machina. I-I wanna be like him. He has a metal golem named Dotty and he has an adventure list like me and he did all he wanted to do." the boy started to open up, and the other kids didn't make fun of him again, as he ran back to his shoe shine box and came back showing Helios his book.

He was even more surprised when the herbalist offered to heal him. "Ah, oh, you don't have to do that. I --- I don't have any money." he muttered, embarrassed, into his scarf. He coughed again, and looked at his mom who was ways away on the other side of the ship shining shoes, then looked back at Helios whispering, "B-but, if you could help my mom --- she has neck pain from always bending a lot --- th-then, maybe yes, if that's alright?"

Meanwhile, the wide-eyed Parfa leeeeeaned back, paws folded close to her chest, as Arleth's gaze slowly turned to meet hers. Light of the Dawn Herder, this woman is scaaary--- no, she's a fae! Those teeth! And then she laughed. Parfa's ears relaxed, her tail swishing, as her scary impression of the fae became that of unfamiliar surprise, the kind where strangers prove your first impressions wrong and you become curious about them.

"No, there's nothing else." Parfa shook her head quickly. She looked around the deck in thought, as though she didn't know how to leave this conversation, and that's when Helios came. She visibly sighed in relief.

"Oh, it's alright, Helios, we were finished." she smiled, wagging her tail. And then her head tilted curiously when he asked his question. "A feather?" She looked at Arleth.

At the docks he was met by the First mate who hurried him onto the vessel. “We should be able to arrive on time now Sir. Glad to have you on board. Didn’t think we would ever have a chance to deal with the guilds so this will be exciting for all of us!” The man smiled and the vessel embarked on its journey. The crew kept to their work, seeming friendly towards Raven. “And what is your name sir? You can call me Malachi.” The first mate asked as the island of Niniva grew further away from them.

III

Raven stretched out his hand for a handshake and returned a smile “ Hello Makachi and Everyone too. I am Raven from the Raven Guild and I know what you are thinking. And it was on purpose. Haha Though I thought Guilds had a mixed reputation.”

III

Malachi laughed and nodded. “Well we’ve heard the Raven guild is quite friendly and not only that, tamers of beast. We’re glad to have you aboard in case we do run into trouble.” He smiled. Chatting with Raven about the guilds and the news they’ve heard from other sailors of some members talking to a sea beast. “What a notion is it not!?” They made good progress through the day, the isles of kolan long behind them by now.

III

Raven had a good time. It felt weird to hear third parties telling the unusual events about other guildmates but Raven will have to get used to fact the guild attracted the strange and powerful which results in adventure that sound like tall tales. Though the stories these men are talking about have some details wrong, Raven felt wrong to break the fun with correcting them and some secrets are best kept in ones group with the public.

III

They told their stories and before they knew it one of them called out “Land Ho!”

“Where?” Another laughed though they all prepared to dock at the Dwarven shore. Raven could see a few other ships, some with crew and dwarves loading good up tho ship out and packing them into carts to take back to the mountains that laid on the horizon. Tall and foreboding as they sat there, seeming like any other part of nature save for the fact that underneath lied a whole country.

The ship docked and soon Raven heard a shout for some one of the Raven guild. A Brownie that seemed boggled down by his bags asked questions here and there about a arriving member from the guilds, the crew getting of the ship Raven had boarded pointed the small creature towards the centaur. “I think that’s your dwarf my good sir.” Malachi smiled and wished him good luck on his quest.

III

“Thanks you Malachi. You and your crew have been a delight. Hope my quest is quick enough that I may join you on the way back.”Raven spoke with glee as he bid his goodbyes to Malchi and crew alike as he made his way to the Brownie. Raven lightly cantered to the dwarvn member and spoke his greetings, “Hello. I hear you are looking for the Raven Guild. My name is Raven and am the representative of the guild. Are you a here for Tjborner...Tjbonaer…no..Tbjornar? Sorry. The ah request about his stolen wares?” With embarrassment to his face, he tried his best to keep confidence in his stance.

III

“Tbjorniar.” The brownie corrected. “And yes, I am from there, I’ll be guiding you back to my master’s place. Though I was not expecting such a.. Well, new arrangements will have to be made the transport I aquired will not be able to carry you to the mountains.” He nervously fixed his hair and lead Raven down the docks. He kept muttering to himself wondering what to do. For a being like him it would take days and days to walk back on such short legs.

III

“Haha was not expecting a large member? Do not fret it. Even in Hybridos people are blindsided in all the ways to accommodate all types of chimeras. Is it that difficult to reach the mountain entrance. Is there no roads? And if you don't mind, I can carry that bag for you. I am well trained so some extra bags should not be too troublesome” Raven happily inquired while holding out his hand.

III

“It is a great distance, the rails ma- We don’t have much to accommodate you.” He corrected, not wanting to reveal such a big dwarven secret. “Though thanks I would appreciate the assistance. I had to pick up a few things for my master, Mr. Joeness.” He gratefully handed the bag to Raven and then told him to wait a moment. After many moments the breathless brownie came back. “A ship did not make it for some merchants, their cart is empty and big enough for the both of us should only be an hour or two to one of the gates at the mountain. Then it shouldn’t be long to make it to Mr. Joeness’ shop.”

The brownie seemed proud to have found a solution and led the centar to the cart. It would still seem small to him but the brownie and the merchants insisted it was safe. The brownie sat by Raven as they traveled to the mountain. “I am Gale, Gale Halden. I forgot to introduce myself before”

III

Raven grabbed the heavy backpack and looped it around his upper shoulders. After he checked his load, Raven noticed the brownie already came back with transportation. Raven was impressed how the quick the little guy was able to find a new ride to the mountains. As he entered the cart, he had snuggled his hooves so that everyone and everything fit properly. “Hello Gale. Sorry for the inconvenience. I was about to offer you a lift myself. Typically allowing someone on a centaurs back is sign of great trust so I apologize that my hesitation forced you to trouble others more than necessary. Is Joeness a nickname for Tbjornair? Or are you just working for him for your master?” Raven moved his hands to his bags and shuffled things around as he made banter with his guide.

III

The brownie gave him a quizzical look at the cart swayed slightly while they rode. “Tybjorniar is the name of this country. Mr. Joeness is who I work for directly.” He looked up at the Chimera. Was it really that confusing? Or had Gale not explained things well enough? Maybe it was just miscommunication. “Though I’d much rather ride a cart than a being. It would be a little unnatural to me. So no apology needed.”

III

Raven tilted his head as he heard the names properly told to him and he laughed a light chuckle, “Ahaha I must have mixed the names in my head on the way here due to my nervousness. See as much as I am a good soldier and warrior, my ability to retain facts about the world tend to be inversely proportional haha. Have you never learn to ride a horse or in your case a pony would be safer to ride? That is unfortunate as it is quite a unique experience of trust and partnership that comes from a strong bonds of trust. But then again, I might be biased haha. We appears we have time to waste now. Could you tell as much as you can about the problem?”

III

He pondered the Centaur’s words. “No I don’t ride horses or.. Ponies.” He frowned a bit. “I just prefer carriages and such.” Or the Rails all across Tybjornair, though that was a dwarven secret. “Though the problem started weeks ago. Some weapons my master made had all gone missing. The authorities searched for weeks but it was 3 days till it all returned misshapen into distasteful sculptures. After a few more occurrences the thieving spirits made themselves known and openly mock and taunt the shop. My master has tried to get rid of them to no avail. They just took a rather expensive order now we hope to retrieve it before the metal is all warped and must be melted and forged into weapons once more” He sighed. It was a travesty too. All that time and effort for naught. All cause of those hooligan ghosts!

III

Making mental notes of clues, Raven began to ask more questions to clarify some details, “So the Thieves showed themselves and made it 100% clear it was them? And you are sure they are ghosts and not illusions or air elementals?”

III

“Yes, they came to our shop late one night, wanted something from Mr. Joeness but I couldn’t make out what, they locked me in the office, papers flying about. When they vanished my master told me that the spirits wanted to cause chaos and chose us as a target. He said they would keep this up with no intent on stopping. He’s quite wrought on what to do about it. He murmurs about slaying the spirits.” He took a breath and took a handkerchief out to wipe his brow. The events still fresh in his mind of being stuck at the mercy of the dead.

“If that is so, then why have the authorities responded to the intangible thieves? It might have been confusing the first few times but once they declared themselves and their goal, why did your guard not set up a proper undead barrier? The request stated your Master has used dummy weapons to trick the spirits? Have you considered making ,buying, or barrow a magic resistant safe for the wares? Though it is hard to keep a sword in a safe between the tempering process.?" Raven was wondering how they can still keep stealing after announcing their intention.

III

“We have little knowledge in dealing with spirits, it’s not very common to find them in the mountains..” The brownie sighed. “We are looking into such magic but it’s not as strong as we like. Maybe with more practice but we are hoping for a long term solution so the ghosts do not go after our clients once the weapons leave the shop.” He explained. The spirits seemed to know just what to do to break through their amatuer spells. “They seem only interested in the weapons and i haven’t a clue why!”

III

“Well that is considerable concern. Blindspots are blindspots i guess. MY guess is that they like weapons but then they change them. Maybe they have a no weapon stance?Have any clues about why you and your master and not other blacksmiths?”

III

“I haven’t a single clue.” He huffed and soon the light vanished above them. They had entered the mountains. Gale gave the merchants directions to the shop and thankfully they took them right to it. Raven would see brownies, dwarfs and gnomes running about as goblins and hobgoblins stayed out of the way and to their tasks. The tunnels bustled with business and would hear a screeching sound here and there though no one seemed bothered by it. It was like metal scraping against metal but higher pitched. “We’re here.” They got off the cart and Gale led him inside the shop full of weapons and tools and sculptures. “Please look around as I fetch Mr. Joeness.” Gale left to run deeper into the shop and forgot about the bag he gave Raven earlier.

It was rather small though tall enough to accommodate his height. The space between the front wall and the counter was barely wide enough. He could tell the difference between the shimmering, navy, metal of the sculptures compared to the other tools around. The building seemed almost hand carved in rock, even the counter and shelves in the room were apart of the mountain still.

III

It has only been a few hours since the boat but it appears that a pattern of his back is getting a workout with the constant stretching. A pattern that appears to be a constant truth in the world outside of Hybridos. Raven needs to learn or earn a spell to shrink himself for convenience or inconveniences like these. Being the tallest person in the room does give one a nice view of it. The furniture was very unique as it looked like it was crafted from the one solid stone. Either an excellent use of earth magic or excellent craftsmanship. In the downtime before the client and Gale came back, Raven decided to try an old spell from a friend. He reached for a metal statue and chanted an exoteric spell, “Let the Magic Mallet Ring through the Earth and Hear the Metal Sing." The spell grabbed the surrounding magic and pushed it through an item and let the reaction from the infused magic tell the user what was inside, if the user understood the reactions properly.

III

The reaction will tell him the metal has been treated with something to give it the blue shimmer. Something from the ghostly plane, which would make it able to touch or affect the spirits as well. What is was was unidentifiable for now.

Soon Gale returned, and with him Mr. Joeness. He was taller than the brownie but not by much. He seemed like a gruff and tough man. Scars here and there, bandages around his hands. He had soot on him but was presentable enough. “Well you weren’t kidding.” He said to Gale and went to approach Raven with a hand outstretched to shake his. “Donothan Joeness, glad to see you sir. I hope we can get to the bottom of this fiasco and get rid of these ghastly ghosts.” He gave Raven’s hand a firm shake, having to reach up to do so, even if Raven did kneel down. “Please, examine the wares, see if there’s anything you can find. We’ve been trying for ages to track these spirits down to no avail.” He clenched his fists, angered by those hooligans messing up his wares.

Raven did have to kneel to shake the man's hand, but did so happily, no matter the trouble his body physical had while doing so. “Thank you very much Mr. Joeness. Gale may have already told you but my name is Raven and I will happy represent the Raven Guild to help you and this situation. I have a few questions for you to answer so I can have as clear as possible of understanding the problem, but first things first. I believe this is yours.” Raven carefully as he could took off the backpack on his back and handed it to Gale. “I think you forgot I had it Haha. Mr. Joeness, I heard from Gale that you had a confrontation with the ghost. Could you please recount the conversation from your point of view?”

III

“Oh! Thank you.” Gale took the bag and went through the back doors again to do whatever he’s gonna do with them.

Once he was gone Joeness nodded and cleared his throat. “Well the first time it was quite a surprise. The night before the shipment was ready to be taken to the docks at the shores and in the morning Bang! They were gone! Later they suddenly returned as sculptures. The ones over there.” He motioned at the latest editions. “Were from a few days ago I believe. The goblin I hired to keep watch went missing over the night and now all we have in return are those awful sculptures I have to melt down”

He sighed, “It’s been a hassle to try to fix this, I believe we simply need to stop the ghosts once and for all. The bastards even came here to rob us during working hours earlier this month, I barely saved a few swords before they floated off!”

III

“ mmmm I'd like to find that missing goblin but that is for later. I was told they had said things to you. What did they say? Might give me a clue to their motivation. Also could you tell about the weapons and materials being stolen. They might be something the ghost like.” Raven nodded as he heard the mans words and then thumbed the sculpture with the last sentence.

III

“They..” He paused. “They announced to us that they disagreed with hoe we were using the materials.” He answered cautiously and studied Raven. “Perhaps they just want the metal?” He looked to the side.

III

Raven stared at the blacksmith clearly hiding something. Thinking of his words. He looked back and forth and saw Gale has yet to come back and were still alone. Raven sighed as knelt to speak closer to Donothan. “Haaaa. Now I could play the subtle game and hint and imply things like my guildmates, but I feel you would like a blunt and fast solution to your livelihood. So I would like you to tell me exactly what the ghost said about your use of ghost metals and where you got said metals.”

III

Sweat could be seen on Donothans brow as the Centaur leaned closer. “I..” the blacksmith looked left and right. “Alright, the metal’s been treated with Ghoul blood. It lets the metal exist on the ghost’s level since ghouls have already died as well and even better, when its forged into a weapon, it can kill a ghost.” He said simply. “They didn’t take kindly to that. No one knows what happens to the spirits if they don’t move on properly, but the mountain holds many dead ones, many spirits that refuse to leave these caverns. Room must be made for the living, not the dead.” He said loudly and proudly.

III

Raven glared at the dwarf as he spoke, “So your people chose to cleanse the undesirables for the your own convenience? The undead, while dead, are still considered a sentient being. You respect their will and autonomy as much as they are hating yours right now. And they are clearly less blood thirsty as you sound since they simply warp the metal and not use them to stab you in the back. Now, how sure are you that they can not be reasoned or negotiated with to provide the so desired space for expansion.”

III

Donothan scowled. Of course the centaur would take the spirit’s side. “Well in our country the spirits are not protected anymore than the basic accords. You cannot condemn me for taking any life. I just arm the people with the means, I make what they order. You cannot change the whole of Tbjornair to side with one Centaur.” He sneered. “You’re doing a job for me. I’ll let you do this your way but if you cannot stop them or deal with those spirits I’ll do it my way.” He turned and stormed back into the back offices and shoved Gale out to deal with the “high and mighty centaur judung down on us”

III

Raven took a deep breath in and slowly let it out slowly. The breathing help calmed his tongue but it also let in the guilt and shame he felt for letting his emotions color his words and his judgment. “Haaaa wait wait…..mmmm Gale, I apologize, it appears my inexperience has cause Mr. Joeness a lot of anger. I know blacksmith do what they can for their art and their people and that making weapons for one’s country does not mean he is a murderer. I can tell he is doing what he does for the betterment of his home and people, I just don't fully agree with his ways. I'd like more info from him but I don't think he will be very willing right now. Gale why don't you give a small tour of the town and tell me about the goblin that disappeared. Maybe I'll get somewhere with that.”

III

Gale nodded. “Yes I think that will be very beneficial.” He lead the centaur out into the street. “The Goblin was sitting inside but the morning after he was gone. He may have simply ran off in while facing the spirits.” He said and motioned to the store front. “Goblins am I right?” He chuckled. “Though this is the square of our town. We are one of the closest dwellings to the surface. The road goes around in an actual square and branches off into the grid of other buildings and such.” The brownie explained. The town was well planned beforehand, grids and order. Unlike the hodgepodge settlements elsewhere.

As Raven strolled along the Brownie, he looked back and forth and notice the predictable layout like Gale said. “Very orderly indeed. You could put in a moat or aqueduct for quicker cargo transportation every few blocks and have minimal slow down in foot traffic. Though I don't know how you are in need of more space when you have so much vertical movement. Stairs and ramps must be a hassle in such tight quarters. Are goblins known to be cowardly? I hear they are more sneaky and tricky than scared? The goblin never showed up after that day? How about the friends and family?”

III

“Well we can’t move down, we dig too deep and we risk the imps being let loose like never before. For now the rails transport our goods.” He said without thinking. “Though many still like good old fashioned hard work in transporting goods.” He paused. “They are crafty but they only think of themselves too. Even when paid not to. We don’t know his family. We just hired him for that night.”

III

‘Rails?’ Raven thought, ‘they set up railing to move stuff? Well I guess if little kids can slide down banisters than I assume you can slide crates down them too with balance. I guess if you have two rails to slide down, it would be better but that seems pretty tedious to put two rails everywhere to slide crates up and down.’ Raven pondered the logistics of carpenters making all of those railing but kept it short as it was not part of the investigation. “Must be a hassle to put in all that railing. Uhmm. Another time. Now you say Imps as if you know that there is a whole host of them down below. Has it been considered to deal with them than making special weapons for spirits? Also if digging down is a problem, why not build upwards? Seems like less problems skyward….Now about the goblin. You do remember his name right? And where you hired him. Maybe the people there know something about our missing guard.”

III

Gale ignored most of his questions, or maybe he just didn’t feel ok to answer them. Maybe there was no answer, it was simply how things were. “The goblin was Horvoc, we hired him from the depot across the town. Most without steady jobs gather there to be picked for odd jobs, Donothan sent me to pick someone and the goblin seemed to be good enough for a guard job. Maybe Lanie knows something about them. She’s in charge of that place.” He thought on it. Maybe they found the goblin they could find the ghosts! Or a way to speak to them without setting a trap or something in the shop.

III

Raven noticed that this was first time Gale was not answering a lot of his questions but decided not to point it out for now. He mealy sighed before talking back, “Haaa Horvoc was it? If there is some sort of command structure or overseer for the odd jobs, then let us talk to this Lanie. Also Gale, I’d like to make a detour beforehand though. We are going to need to stop by a food stand and bring a few portions. One for me. One for you. And a few for Lanie and her people. Oh and some wine or alcohol.” After finished his words, he stopped and pointed at some food stall and gestured.

III

Gale looked over at the stall. He nodded though looked at Raven quizzically. “Alright.” They headed over and he helped pay for the food. Not wanting to be a bad host of course. Gale liked Raven even if his master obviously no longer did. Once they purchased the items Gale led him over to the Depot were a plump dwarf woman was calling out names as she held up a huge cannon, though Raven wouldn’t recognize it at anything more than a metal tube. Gale approached her, pushing past the other Dwarfs running about and asking her questions and completing tasks. She was calling out names, her voice booming across the area above the busy chatter. Though once Gale walked up to her she smiled and sudden;y things seems much more quiet as she greeted him normally.

“Oh need to ‘ire anyone else now Gale?” She chuckled at him, her skirts swishing as she turned to set down the heavy hunk of metal. Her clothes didn’t seem to scream ‘business lady’ but is sure screamed some sort in unsavory business. Lanie turned back to him and then looked up. “My, and who’s your friend ‘ere?” Gale went to explain the situation. “Ah I see. Well I haven’t heard anything other than he wanted his name off the charts for the next week. Guess he won’t be for hire anytime soon. I’ll can tell you where he lives. He should be there, though if my nose doesn’t deceive me you guys stopped at Garth’s didn’t you?” She looked over at the parcels of food.

III

Raven looked over the drawven lady who looked more casual than one expects a business leader, but who was he to expect all business to follow the same guidelines. It was good to hear that the search would be short, as such he calmly jumped into the conversation once the food was mentioned. “Hello, my name is Raven and yes, I believe that was the name of the place we got these from, Madam. We figured that if we are going to bother a business lady during her work hours, we should at the very least bring her lunch. Would you like some?” Raven asked as he presented the portions in his hand. “If the lady doesn’t mind a few more question after divulging Mr. Horvac’s address, then I would like your opinion in why Mr. Horvac decided to not work for a week since he left his last job incomplete?”

III

She smiled and kindly accepted his offer. “Don’t mind if I do.” Lanie digs into the meal, thanking him happily. “He said the last one was more than he was getting paid for and, something about good advice. Or advice from a bad place.” She went on to explain where to find his home but something struck her from behind, making her fall forward unconscious. A hunk of metal had struck her, metal with a navy shimmer. Gale gasped and went to her to check her, people around them yelped and got out the way. There was actually a clear space around them.

“She’s just unconscious.. But I will take her to a doctor.” Gale and some other dwarven men began to carry Lanie away.

“You better stop or we won’t let them go alive.” Said a voice in Raven’s ear. “We’re gonna stop Donothan no matter what.”

III

Raven felt shocked as he saw Lanie get assaulted by a metal club. He was about to help but remembered his training to keep look out as Gale took care of the lady for him. He knew the club was of Ghost Metal and realized his guest were of the ghostly type. He kept his eyes out while he was drew his sword, but his stopped halfway as one of the spirits whispered into his ear. Raven pouted as he answered back to his intangible insurgents, “That seems more violent than what you’ve done before to be threatening people with death. And if you were willing to kill people, you would have killed Donothan by now. However, I am not going to waste time trying to call your bluff or not, so I’m going to do my job and ask how to get you guys to stop messing with Donothan, it is not to kill you guys. I prefer a solution that will not create more death though. I already know his weapons are specifically for ghost types, and that he was ordered by his country to do so to due to the spirits refusal to make room in the safer caverns. What is your view on the situation.”

III

He could hear many whispers about him as the ghost talks with some other spirits. “We just want the hunts to stop. We’ve already moved to the surface as a permanent place of stay. We come back down to keep those unable to go beyond the mountain company. We don’t really take up space, but we understand the need to want space of your own. We want the ghoul’s blood gone from his shop, he’s the only one who goes out to get it. All the metal destroyed too. Just stop the spirit hunts. They look for us every night even after we’ve agreed to their terms If you don’t we may have no choice but to add another spirit to our community. We want to live out our afterlife in peace. That’s our views. Tbyjoniar is our home as much as theirs.”

III

“Hunts? That sounds bad, but I can’t just judge sides without confirming things or else this is a repeat of my talk with Donothan” Raven thought of what he heard, let it settle, then he spoke back to the spirits, “That is a very strong claim. Now, as you can tell, I am an outsider to Tbjoniar so I have little context to the truth to any one person to claim. If what you say is true then I will help you with Donothan as much as I can, but I will continue my investigation a little more. Now I will wake up Lanie and ask her some questions about the country and I expect the one who hit her to come along and apologize. I don’t think the lady deserve a crack across her head to prove some point when you could have just come up to me.” Raven huffed as he started to walk to Gale and the unconscious Lanie.

III

He could hear grumbles among the ghost. “We speak the truth,” said one but they waited for Raven to do his thing.

Gale had Lanie propped up against a barrel as another dwarf had just finished healing her with magic. “Thank you.” Gale told them and they nodded, simply doing their job before walking off. The woman stirred and opened her eyes slowly. “Lanie, it’s Gale. You were knocked out but a healer came to fix you up. You’re alright.”

She groaned and rubbed the back of her head. “Who hit me?” She growled and stood up, though stumbled a bit. Gale helped her stay upright.

“It was a spirit miss.” Said a ghost, the image of a Dwarf shimmered in front of them. Looking translucent and very much dead with a few holes in their body. She looked a bit young, probably just have come of age to be considered an adult. “We..” she huffed. “Apologize for the action, we had hoped to hit the centaur to get his attention but silencing you was goo- OW!” It looked like they were elbowed by one of their friends. “I mean, I’m truly sorry there could’ve been a better way to handle that. But the centaur still doesn’t believe us! You’re detective work is just stalling !”

Lanie blinked at the image and huffed. “Of all things.” She crossed her arms. “How did a spirit manage to touch something enough to throw it at me Mr. Halden? And Mr...Raven.” She didn’t know his last name but her look pierced through them both regardless.

III

”Wolfbane, Madam. My last name is Wolfbane, Raven Wolfbane.” the centaur lightly chuckled before looking at the spirits, “We will talk about that silencing comment in a bit, but asking questions is what leads one to understanding another.” Raven sighed as he pointed his attention back to the dwarven lady. “The reason the spirits here can touch metal is connected to a few questions I have that require an answer. You, being the boss of a temp worker office that sounds to be connected to a lot of the city, I’m sure you’ve heard a lot of the coming and going of this town. I’d like to know about the deal the spirits had with the government and what are these ghost hunt?”

III

She sighed and motioned them over to follow. Taking them to a small building a few feet from where she had been calling out names and jobs, earlier. “This is as close of an office I get to organize all the job offers. Best not to speak of such things to out in the open.” The woman closed the door behind them. It managed to fit the centaur enough. “Don’t want to start up a riot outside, everyone’s about them hunts” She sighed. “At least it’s good money for some of the folks who come to me for work.”

“Since you are unaware and perfectly so Mr. Raven. Our mountains are saturated with spirits and ghost upon the generations of Dwarves past and present. In order to minimize the clash of the livin and dead, specially since the dead are demanding of space we don’t have to spare, Our President put out an order for all spirits to dwell on the surface of Tybjornar as our living stay in the caverns as we should. Not every ghost can leave but those who can should stay up there and leave us well and alive be.”
She huffed.

“The ghosts hunts are just for some good fun Mr. Raven. Thin down the spirits above and below. It's a good sport, and helps with those ghosts that can’t leave to move on. It’s all peaceful and I hear they bring in mediums to help with the process.” She says though the look on Gale face should assure Raven that the statement is just a lie spread to distract from the truth.

III

“Haaaaaaaa” Raven sighed in frustration and tiredness as he saw the face on Gale. This is becoming more and more a cultural problem then Raven ever expected and the route to an acceptable end point is becoming more and more clouded to him. “That…. does not sound correct. The more I hear, the more far stread this issue seems to be. As such, I’ll have to ask everyone here to wait for a few minutes while I converse with my comrades via magic tool.” Raven pulled out a sheet of magic paper and ink quill to write to Calla ‘Boss, it appears that I have run into a rather difficult cultural problem and I wish for advice…’ from there Raven wrote an outline of his trip with heavier details in the problem.

III

As Calla did, whatever she happened to be doing at that moment she was made aware of some text being written on those old rolls of paper. The woman looked at it, knowing it was Raven out and about in Tbyorniar. It had been quite a while since he embarked over there. Wonder what he could need from her now?

She thought about her responses to him. It was a delicate situation, seems like every party involved had something to lose. As much as Calla would like to benefit all in this situation there was no way to make everyone happy. A change in culture like this would take many months and years of effort and growing support. These spirits were not protected as life in the dwarven nation.

“It is a difficult situation Raven honestly one I didn’t think one would face in a supposed Rank C quest. Sometimes we have to remember what our goal is. Focus on the smaller picture here. Perhaps just keep your focus to the shop, find a way to satisfy your quest. Maybe in a small victory for the spirits you can enact change. You efforts may be better spent convincing the black smith to hold off on the ghostly arms. And remind him that if the Councils of Goods and Services catch wind of ghouls blood being sold. Ghouls are protected and their blood is a controlled magic substance.”

“If this Joeness doesn’t have records of his purchases then you can use that. I doubt the Dwarves of the free market nation want to keep records such things though.”

She hoped that would help. In the meantime she could consult the Councils records herself to aid him and perhaps bring more of an international light to the situation. Though for now he must focus simply on the quest ahead.

The Sky is the Limit END
The vampire offered a small smile, what he could muster, and shook his head, "No, Captain that will not be necessary. You know what I am. I will heal in time. Besides, today's quest is nothing too taxing."

He limped up towards her and put a hand on her shoulder, "Thank you for the concern. Has the beastie been playing nice."

"Well," the captain started, the look of worry never really leaving her expression, "if you're sure." Her emotions quickly turned to pride and joy at the mention of the adolescent kraken that roamed the waters nearby, "That little monster has probably been one of the better things I have ever picked up! He scouts ahead and helps us avoid any dangers on top of acting like a damn bug repellent towards all other creatures. Like those sirens you helped us chase off."

The blue woman nodded with a toothy grin and got back to barking orders at her men to get everything ready to cast off, letting the adventurers get settled in as they pleased.

'Roland. I'm afraid you're going to need to handle most of the talking this time around. Like I said, people don't take kindly to my type. That wasn't a lie. What was a lie, is that some random townsfolk were able to get the drop on me.'

Roland laughed as he hopped onto the boat. “Well guild affairs are all over the world after all Captain!” He then gave her a salute but that was just because he wanted to and then he looked around - as if studying the rest of the crew. So she kept the ones she picked up. That was nice. That meant they were more trustworthy.

“All ready to sail at your mark Captain!” Roland called out as he sat down on the rails, managing to maintain a proper balance. Back at sea again, Roland was really looking forward to it~

"As am I." The vampire called out.

With that, Anahita had gone off and began barking orders at her new crew and Roland watched her, waiting if she wanted him to do anything too. So far, there was none. That was when he began hearing Henry.

“I mean sure. You’re not really a nice guy Henry, I think even if you weren’t a vampire, people get put off by you.” As blunt as always but that’s just Roland. “But what do you mean you weren’t attacked by random townsfolk? I mean I get that they’re pretty damn powerful if you’re that injured.”

'Sadly a consequence of being centuries old is you tend to turn out that way. But I was referring to the fact that I can't hide my eye color from people's minds.' He replied before continuing, 'Yeah. Try the damned guild leader of Raven.'

That was going to need context…. But if anyone deserved the truth… well most of the truth… it was going to be Roland.

“Okay, that’s fair. You know the new guys got scared by you. And I don’t think it’s because you’re a vampire. But yeah, that’s okay. You should be careful though.” Roland began to look around, beginning to sway in position as the ship began to move. He looked out to the water to hopefully catch sight of the kraken but it was too far away scouting for him to see.

So when Henry had dropped the person who had injured him, Roland was caught off guard. So much so that he almost fell overboard. He had managed to latch himself onto the railing though but he looked very much alarmed. “Wait, wait, wait! You mean you fought with Miss Calla? Our guildmaster? Henry why would you do that?” He sounded more worried than angry. “Miss Calla doesn’t seem like the type to fight just because you’re a vampire. And, and you don’t seem like the type to fight without reason…”

'Because I went out during the night to hunt for food. The trip had taken a lot out of me. Mentally speaking. While I was out there guess who I found plotting and conspiring against our fair guild leader?'

Roland was tense with expectation. He tried to wrack his brain for whoever this mysterious traitor was who wanted to put down the guild so early in their conception. “Who?”

'Our honorable co-leader. The elf. I found him doing some strange back alley deal with people that smelled like a cemetery. So, I jumped him, shredded his mental barriers and dove into his psyche. Turns out, he was planning to use the love Guildmaster Calla felt for him as her downfall. Impregnate her and during the birth, at her weakest, kill her and claim it as death by childbirth. Then take the guild for himself.'

Obviously Henry was leaving out a lot of details but he didn't need to divulge the woman's past either. What happened to her comrades was something that should be kept quiet until she felt otherwise. 'So I killed him. Ripped him to pieces. Drained him dry. Apparently, Calla had some sort of enchantment to tell her when he was in danger and came to that scene. We fought… and I won. Despite how we both turned out in the end. When I finally forced my way through her defenses, I showed her everything the elf had been plotting.'

The vampire then chuckled and the sound echoed throughout their linked minds, 'We nearly destroyed a section of the town with our little skirmish.'

It was obvious that Roland was not taking it very well. He was already shaking. It had always been obvious that Roland followed the culture of his people - and so when he entered the guild, he would always treat them as his family. Betrayals was the one thing you cannot do for Roland. He would never forgive anyone who betrays family. So hearing about this was enough to switch the trigger.

Too bad the Genji was already dead. Well, perhaps it was fortunate for that twisted elf that he already was.

There was silence in his line of communication but thoughts of vengeance was leaking out of him. Most of them had involved leaving Genji hanging somewhere with no chance of escape. Nothing was worse than slowly dying after all. Or publicly embarrassing him before killing him. After a while though, the thoughts stopped, and so did Roland’s shaking.

“He’s dead now though right?” He said as if for confirmation though he already knew the answer to that. “No wonder MIss Calla looked tired early this morning! I should ask her if she needs any help once we get back. Something like that isn’t an easy thing to move on from. She loved him and yet… he deserved whatever you did to him Henry.” Roland looked down at his hands and noticed that he was fidgeting. “I hope you and MIss Calla aren’t on bad terms anymore.”

“Maybe I should force the two of you to take it easy for a while.”
He mused. He then shook his head. “So that magical surge was from you two? You woke me up in the middle of the night. You should have told me Henry, I would have liked a smack or two for myself.”

That sent the older man into a laughing fit that had the sailors turning to openly stare at what the hell was going on. They eventually just shook their heads and ignored it, remembering that Henry was a psychic and someone probably said something crazy in their heads.

'Forgive me! I was a bit preoccupied on not getting turned to ashes! I'll be sure to remember you may want to get your licks in for the next time I find a traitor in our ranks.'

On the next note, Henry settled down some, 'I would say to leave her be on the matter, Roland. But as for your question, I wouldn't say we were on good terms. Then again, we never really were. So, things are as they usually were. I'd say.'

Roland couldn’t help the small grin on his face as he saw Henry laughing by himself. So, he was feeling a bit more relaxed and that was good. It was meant to be a joke after all, for the sake of Henry calming down and more relaxed. “You better remember that~”

He let out a small whine. “Fine. But still, I told her to rest up because even if I don’t know the circumstances, I can see that she’s tired.” He then leaned back. “Okay then. Maybe we should go on the next quest with Miss Calla. Maybe that’ll do you two some good.”

'Mmm…. Not sure about that one.'

People that were centuries old had a nasty habit of holding grudges.

-------------

The trip felt nowhere near as long as their last expedition by sea and with favorable winds, they made it to their location earlier than they ever could have anticipated. There were no siren incidents either and they were able to avoid any hidden dangers in the deep waters thanks to the Kraken sentry they had swimming around their perimeter.

The adventurer duo spent most of their time on the boat either idling about or helping the crew in whatever ways they could.

Once they touched shore, Henry and Roland double checked the details of their quest. It stated that client was waiting near the cliff by the docks. They both looked eastward and sure enough, at the top of the perilous cliff, there was some sort of mechanical contraption that lay motionless and a person working on it.

'That must be our client.' The psychic mused between the established mental link.

Roland looked up when Henry had mentioned that he saw the client. Well, the quest did say that he would be waiting at the cliff so surely that was their client. He let out a hum. “Must be. Come on, let’s walk.” He gave the vampire a grin as he began walking towards the client. Of course, he could just shift but he’d like to get some exercise in his human form while he still can.

The pair hiked their way to the top of the cliff and upon a closer viewing, one could tell that the metal….thing was strangely bird-like. It was very intricate and even at a glance, one could tell it was complex. In the center, where the bird's torso would be, there was a series of leather harnesses and belts. As if to strap something down on the inside. The assumed creator and client was too distracted in his tinkering that he did not notice the shapeshifter and vampire's approach.

The undead cleared his throat and still, nothing. It took an irritated psychic shove that knocked the tinkerer on his ass and caused him to look around for the source, "Who the he-"

'Finally…' the vampire thought with exasperation.

Roland shook his head. “That isn’t very nice Henry.” That seemed to be a throwaway comment as he soon turned to the man that was now starting to get up from his position, grumbling something under his breath. “Hello there, we’re from the Raven Guild and we accepted your quest.” He bent down and extended a hand to the man.

He narrowed his eyes at them before huffing but still took the extended hand. “You guys are pretty rude aren’t you?”

Roland merely shrugged as he pulled him up. “We got off to a rough start but let’s start over. I’m Roland and that’s Henry.” He gestured to the vampire beside him.

'What's rude is that he completely ignored us. Arrogant little…'

“I’m Falguerra.” He introduced himself as he dusted himself off and then looked towards the incomplete contraption that was lying near the cliffside. “I’m trying to make something to allow even normal people to fly. You don’t need to be magic user to be able to taste the sky!” He puffed out his chest and placed both hands on his hips, pride oozing out of his every being.

“Sounds like a sales pitch.” The shifter idly said as he began walking to the contraption. “So does it work?”

“Well… it doesn’t work yet. But with your help I will finish it!” Falguerra announced but he seemed a bit disheartened. Before Roland could notice it, he was back to his usual pep. “Anyway, anyway, here’s a list of items that I need. I already made the order at the town so you can just pick it up.”

He took the paper and scanned it. “Alright. Anything else?”

“Nah. I’m good. You can help more later.” With that, Falguerra had turned back to his contraption and began working on it again.

“Well, do you think it’ll work Henry?” He questioned through the mental link as he began walking towards the town. He had questions about how it will work but that can be reserved for later.

'I saw the plans in his head. Everything looked sound and stable. So, in theory, under the right conditions, it should work quite flawlessly. The design is primitive but functional. I imagine it could actually become popularized in the future if he succeeds.’ Though, the vampire had his doubts on that front. The tinkerer was a bit too zealous and proud. It wouldn't be surprising if he overlooked something in his fervor.

“It’ll be interesting if he does make it work.” Roland mused in his head. He just hoped nothing bad would happen while they were doing this quest. It sounded easy enough - a little downtime you know?

The duo's quest was as simple as that. Gather materials that the contact had already ordered and have it delivered. Then just stand around and help out wherever needed. This was quite possibly going to be one of the easiest quests that had ever been on.

Or so they thought…

Henry's heightened sense of hearing let him catch whispers between people from a fair distance away. If there ever came a time his psychic abilities were stripped away from him for whatever reason. Considering he was conserving himself, that was what he was relying on.

The townspeople were kind enough and Henry kept his head down so the cloak covered his eyes while Roland did all the talking. All the while, there were whispers of discontent among the crowd that grew into mutterings which grew into open conversations. Something nearby was causing the people to become restless and judging from the conversation, it was some kind of bandit group.

From what he could pick up, this particular group had been harassing the town for quite some time now and had apparently chosen today of all days to come and raid the place for not paying tribute.

'Bandits. They are going to raid this place.' The elder said mentally as they approached.

“Of course something bad happens.” Roland thought helplessly, an exasperated smile on his face. He couldn’t tell what would happen with only two of them but they were just bandits so it would be simple enough.

Once they pushed passed the crowd, 12 bandits on horseback with swords and bows drawn were yelling obscenities and knocking over trade stalls. They hadn't hurt anyone yet but they were growing in courage every second the townspeople did nothing to resist other than cower.

'Roland… can you do me a favor and just shoot to incapacitate. Not kill. I'm still quite hungry after my little tango with the Guildmaster.'

“Hm, I’ll try my best. Stay here.”

Roland disappeared back into the crowd and a second later, a raven was flying out of the crowd and landed onto the roof. He shifted back to his human form and ducked down so that he would not be seen by the bandits. Twelve of them were all on horseback with four of them wielding bows.

He knocked back an arrow and released and the one closest to the crowds was hit on the shoulder and fell off his horse. The bandits began to rally, trying to find who was the culprit and Roland released more arrows, raining them with arrows and accurately hitting most of them at non-lethal areas.

It was….. comical how easily the situation was resolved. 12 bandits came to start killing, raping, and pillaging. 12 arrows came down upon them from a shapeshifter they had no idea was around. It took about 43 seconds for the entire "problem" to be dealt with. If Henry wasn't so hungry, he might have actually been cackling. Instead, the tantalizing scent of fresh blood filled his nostrils and his canines elongated without his command, morphing into vicious fangs. The vampire pushed through the crowd and made sure to keep his hood down so no one would notice. "Raven guild has handled these vagrants and we will deliver them to the proper authorities so they can pay for their crimes!" He called out to the townspeople with an authoritative voice.

Henry gestured for the shapeshifter to come down and help tie up the wounded bandits who were groaning on the ground. Every second that passed by, the instinct to feed grew stronger. The beast within stirring at the resistance he put up.

The pair tied up the miscreants with rope provided from a nearby stall and began hauling them off to what the townspeople assumed was their just desserts.

What they didn't know was that the pair just took them far enough out of sight and off the main road to mercilessly slaughter them. Each one tasted mediocre but damn, if it wasn't filling and satisfying. Henry would be lying if he said that it didn't hit the spot. Both his eyes were fully open now and the limp was completely gone.

"Ah….. that's much better." He sighed with a face covered in fresh blood. They all lay dead and drained at his feet but the vampire didn't hesitate to decapitate each corpse via brute force and tearing their heads off under the pretense of possible reanimation. He didn't need any thralls coming back and roaming around.

Roland was bouncing on the balls of his feet as he waited for Henry to finish feeding on the bandits. They were out of the way and out of sight so no one would really notice what was happening. He made a point to not watch Henry as he fed, mainly because Roland didn’t want to intrude to something like that.

When he heard the ripping of heads, he turned to Henry finishing. “That sounded disgusting. Let’s clean up.” Of course, Roland had his reservations with feeding on other people but that was how vampires survive and he honestly couldn’t do anything about that so he simply shrugged it off.

After cleaning up, the pair returned to the craftsman who was still hard at work, with the requested supplies. Henry's mood had brightened even more so and he was all smiles when they came back.

Falguerra was sitting down on the ground with various papers surrounding him, a puzzled look on his face as he tried to study his own scribbles. He looked up when he heard footsteps and his face brightened when he saw that the two had returned with the necessary supplies. “Welcome back!” Understandably, he was naive to the fact that something had happened in their supply run. “Just put the stuff there.” He gestured to the incomplete contraption.

“Will do.” Roland replied as he carried over what they had collected and gently placed them on the ground. Falguerra was by his side in a second.

“Did something good happen?” Falguerra asked as he gestured his head towards Henry who seemed peppier.

The shifter laughed. “Yeah you can say that.” He placed both hands to his hips. “So, how can we help?”

“Just pass me the materials. I got most of it done anyway. Just some basic things really and-” Falguerra droned on about his mechanical contraption as he began walking towards it and telling Roland to grab something from the pile of supplies that they had carried over. Soon enough, Falguerra had fallen quiet as well aside from the occasional call to order something.

It took half of the day to finish the contraption, Falguerra laughing in triumph as his machine was complete.

“That took a while!” He said happily as he turned to the vampire and the shifter with a big grin on his face.

“It did.” Roland agreed, only having a sandwich during a break given to him for a while. It wasn’t a trip through the torrential sea towards Hybridios where they had to deal with sirens and a playful kraken - but it was exhausting in another way. He wasn’t sure if it was his lack of proper rest or if it was because Falguerra didn’t like taking breaks. “So, does it work?”

The human shrugged. “One way to find out really.” He hopped onto the cockpit - as he called it, Roland thought it was just a normal seat - and began to pull something in the contraption. Soon enough, a rumble coming from the plane and then a puff of smoke came out. “Yes!”

Then the rumble died down until there was no sound to be heard.

“Wait, wait, no!” Falguerra grumbled as he began pulling frantically again. “Ah stupid machine!” He hit the contraption and it suddenly rumbled to life again. He let out a startled - “Oh.” - before looking back to the two helpers. “I mean, that was part of the plan!”

Roland laughed. “Yeah. Sure. So, you said you can fly with that?”

“Yeah. Yeah, just a minute as I…” He trailed off as he began flicking a few more buttons and pulling a few more levers and the machine roared valiantly before beginning to inch forward. The metal rotors behind it spinning mercilessly and Roland wondered how easily something could get caught in that and ultimately get sliced. “Okay, it’s moving.” Falguerra said loudly, the roar of the machine making it hard to hear him.

The machine sped up slowly - heading towards the cliff. Roland moved forward to the cliffside but out of the reach of the contraption and its “wings”. Falguerra seemed to hit something and it began to get speed faster. It was coming closer to the cliffside and it soon ran out of ground.

Henry closed his to briefly use some minor clairvoyance to see into the immediate future and what he saw brought a full toothy grin to his face. 'Roland. Watch this. It's going to be amazing.'

Roland spared a glance towards Howard, head cocked to the side. “What do you mean?” He asked before looking back to the machine as it rumbled and rode forward.

The contraption launched off the edge and its large mechanical wings started to work! He achieved flight without the assistance of magic!

For all of five seconds.

The machine stalled much like it had before when he tried to start it up initially and the man in the bird suit plummeted to the rocks below. His screams of primal terror got further and further away only to be drowned out by the elder vampire's laughter… which was then overtaken by the resound crash of the tinkerer meeting his doom at the base of the cliff.

Henry had fallen to his knees, chest heaving with laughter and tears streaming down his face before eventually being able to sputter out, "It's… even… funnier the second time…. Oh gods… hahahaha!!!"

Roland frankly seemed shocked. When the machine had failed to restart, it was already midway down the cliff but Roland had made a point to run forward and jump off as well - shifting into a griffin with little difficulty. He flattened the wings to his side as he dove down with the goal of getting to the man before he crashed.

But it was far too late and he flapped his wings to slow his descent as he landed. Roland huffed as he scratched the ground with his claws. The machine was destroyed completely and so was Falguerra’s body. There was nothing he could actually get out from that to bury. It would be better to just bury the entire contraption. With that thought, he headed back up to see that the vampire was still busting a gut laughing.

He shifted to his human form again and rubbed the back of his head. “You could have given me more of a heads up.” He pointed out. “I could have gotten him out of that death trap in time.” Roland continued to say as he ran a hand through his hair. He was obviously too used to death to be bothered by what had happened. “What will Miss Calla say when we come back and say that the guy died!”

And they didn’t even have their payment!

"Payment is in the satchel he left there and as for Calla… Well Roland, our mission was to get him the supplies and assist him with building. Nothing in the quest did it say that we had to save him from himself. For all anyone cares, we completed the task fully."

Henry opened the satchel with his mind and fetched the coin purse that contained their pay, passing it to Roland, "That being said, all the plans for the contraption are still in the satchel and written down extensively. We just have to send this to that human's employer along with a letter describing what happened and that will be that. Easiest quest we'll ever have I think!"

Roland looked over to the satchel. “Ah, that so?” The shifter seemed to feel more at ease and Henry’s continued reassurances seemed to appease him enough. He was still ashamed that he couldn’t rescue the tinkerer but he guessed there were times where things just don’t line up for them. “And I guess you have a point.” Technically, it would be stretching the contract but Henry only said the truth.

He accepted the coin purse and stashed it inside his vest and peeked inside where all the papers were. “Yeah. We just took down a bunch of bandits and helped make a death trap. Very easy.” Roland said with a small shrug. “Let’s send it once we get back yeah? I think Anahita would be ready to leave too, so let’s go~”

Taking the satchel from Henry, they began their way back to the ship. Finding Anahita at the bar was easy and collecting the crew was relatively easier than Roland had originally expected. Despite being inebriated, everyone had functioned relatively well and they were soon sailing back to their port.

Taking the satchel from Henry, they began their way back to the ship. Finding Anahita at the bar was easy and collecting the crew was relatively easier than Roland had originally expected. Despite being inebriated, everyone had functioned relatively well and they were soon sailing back to their port.
As they sailed back on the ship of merry sailors. Calla stood at the hall. The other wordly recruits having disappeared through some portal leaving the exhausted fae alone in her guild hall. Well save for a certain undead feline. She scooped up Nera in her arms. "Why don't we take a day to get the simple things done." She spoke to the cat in a babying voice and the creature only mewed back in a bored tone. Calla went inside her hall. The disappearance the least of her worries. The day was spent catching up on paper work and letters and cleaning up her hall. Her head wasn't in it for long. Out of focus distracted, drained, her thoughts more muddled than they had been for decades.

Didn't take much for Nera to convince Calla to stay put for a brief cat nap in her office. She really needed it anyways. More ways than one. By the time the Vampire and shifter returned to the hall she had slept away most the day. Nera stood on Calla's lap and nudged her while meowing very loudly for a nit before Calla opened her eyes. "What? What is it?" She blinked and yawned. What time was it? Had she let herself sleep for so long? Granted she felt better than she had that morning but still she should've had let herself doze off. Nera hopped off her lap and went out the office. Stretching a moment Calla then got up to follow the feline. She could Henry and Roland were outside the Guild hall doors by now.

As the members conversed with those aboard the captain started to relay orders to the crew. They were coming up on Shnardlepuff, it was a smaller island close to Niniva. It’s single village didn’t hold much and most people were fishermen and farmers. “Won’t be long now, within the hour we’ll be ashore.” One of the crew told the passengers.

“Heard there’s been somebody tearing up the village there too,” said another.

“Yeah, somethings always tearing up a village with you Icia” They rolled their eyes. “Guess that’s where the guild members are heading aren’t they? Captain said we let em off here with some of the orders for the villagers.”

“Maybe they’ll be the ones to fix it then?” They continued talking as they went about their duties.

III

A steady eye remained on Parfa for a moment even after she answered the Half Fae's query before her gaze then shifted to Helios, giving him the same once over with her eyes as he approached as she had given the Chimera. She quirked a single sleek black brow at his question before she turned her gaze back out from the ship and focused on the point of land they were approaching, her chin was placed lightly in her hand and her elbow pressed against the railing as her arm supported her head, her other arm laying along the wood beside it. Tzeentch had been leaning forward slightly on her shoulder his posture a bit unsteady as he paid the two guild members much more mind than his mistress, his head tilting to the side curiously at the two and raising a bit at Helios' question.

"Tzeentch? Would you mind donating a feather to our comrade?" Arleth questioned the bird himself but made no effort to fetch a feather from him. Tzeentch leaned back on her shoulder slightly for a moment before leaning forward and releasing a loud Caw at Helios, his talon raising from Arleth's shoulder a few times and clawing at the leather of her armor. Arleth sighed, "he's angry that you didn't ask him," she then added, shifting her hand from where it held her chin to the birds back, stroking his feathers lightly. Tzeentch straightened up and pressed his breast out, rumbling a few more indignant caws before he ruffled up his feathers and began to preen, eventually retrieving a loose contour feather and holding it in his beak as he leaned towards Helios, looking at him steadily and cawing lowly in annoyance. Once Helios accepted the feather, he would release a louder caw before moving over to Arleth's other shoulder.

III

Helios waited patiently, making his own observations about the silent lady and her bird friend. Once he got a response however, his eyes widened in surprise. Blinking owlishly as the Raven cawed in his annoyance.

“Oh! I’m sorry. I didn’t consider that you’d understand me. My mistake, T-Tzeentch.” He tested out the pronunciation of the raven’s name, not wanting to offend the bird anymore then he has already. “Thank you very much.”

After being cawed at again, louder this time, the Draec healer tilted his head. Not so much looking at the precious feather in his hands as he was gazing at the Raven. Then the corners of his lips quirked into an appreciative smile.

“This is random, but your feathers are very shiny like an opaque obsidian stone.” It was true. The sheen of the bird’s feathers reminded Helios of the dark stones that were found in his homelands’ volcanoes. Somehow, a few Draecs found a way to harvest these precious stones and transform them into jewelry or a protective charm for those who are more into Magic.

“Pardon and thank you again, Tzeentch.” A gentle nod and a bright smile at Parfa and he made his way back to the sick child. Already taking out the small clay mortar and pestle out of his travel bag. Not minding the folks who were around watching him work as he sat down on the floor again. “Okay, this should be quick to mix.”

As he proceeded to peel the soft strands of the feather into the bowl with nimble fingers and grinding in the other two herbs needed for this medicine; Helios’ mind raced. He noticed how neither Arleth or Tzeentch asked why he wanted a feather. Though the raise of her brow definitely made him think she was slightly curious. Either way, he appreciated that she nor her friend had asked why. Not that what he was about to make was a secret, he just appreciated that they trusted him enough to not cause trouble.

Or they didn’t care. Which is fine with him too.

Another thing that caught his mind was what he overheard between the sailors. Fix it? Something needed to be fixed other than the citizens’ houses (maybe)? He thought this mission was to stop a Dragon and a Draec from destroying anymore property and find out why they are even fighting in the first place.

“There we go. Make sure you eat this after a meal, one small spoonful a day. You’ll feel better after a week. Promise.” He quietly muttered to the boy, pouring the now mushy green paste in a toughened glass fairy jar and covered it with a cork. Then he raised an open hand towards the kids, chuckling as they gawked at the sudden appearance of a blooming blossom that’s on top of an orange. “This should be enough for your stomach to handle.” He told the sick boy and patted his head once he took the offered orange.

Parfa chuckled at the grumpy bird and then poked Tzeentch’s tail, before running away and hurrying behind Helios, as he rejoined the crowd.

She wondered what he was mixing, as she leaned over him, her shadow covering him, and was surprised to learn he was making medicine for a sick child he just met. She resisted the urge to nuzzle.

Grateful for this kind gesture, the gawking boy carefully took the jar and the orange, then pulled down his scarf and gave Helios a bright happy grin. Then hugged him tight with his little scrawny arms. “Thank you, sir! You’re nice!” said the boy. “Um, my name is Fin Williams. If you ever visit Shnardlepuff, I’ll give you a free shoe shine in the market square!”

And then off he went, running to his mom and showing her the bottle and orange. She looked surprised and looked towards Helios. She seemed to think that maybe her son begged for it which she did not approve, as she was shaking her head and pointing, as though she wanted him to give it back. But with some talking from Fin she seemed to understand that it was a generous gesture and came over to bow and thank Helios profusely for his kindness, offering him a free foot massage and shoe shine.

Parfa quietly left the crowd, looking back at Helios warmly as some of the other folks started asking him for medicine too, and leaned against the side of the ship watching the small island of Shnardlepuff grow bigger and bigger as their ship approached to dock.

III

The ship docked at the tiny port of Shnardlepuff, sailors and passengers walked off the ship as others walked on. Crates and goods were moved to and fro as the guild walked down the boardwalk and were met with land. The ground shook and people panicked. Up ahead in the Village there were two hulking dragon rolling about as they snapped at each other, knocking into buildings, barely missing people running away.

They roared and reared and charged at each other, fire being spat but they seemed to be, laughing?

Either way they caused mayhem, the captain called for their crew to hurry up unloading so they could get out of here. Some just stood and started as the smaller dark grey dragon pinned down the bigger purple one. Placing bets as the purple one rolled them over to reveal the red scales along the grey one’s back and it’s own soft blue underside. It may have been quite breathtaking to see the two dragons but they did knock over a house.

III

Tzeentch simply perched on Arleth's shoulder and observed Helios while his mistress continued to study the approaching docks, "an average bird would not," the Raven on her shoulder ruffled slightly and made a low and calm caw as though accepting the apology and the gratitude in turn, continuing to watch their guildmate and when the fellow commented on his feathers, he pressed his breast out and stood a little taller as though he were proud and taking the comment as a compliment. But Helios was right, Arleth didn't care what he was up to with the feather and Tzeentch probably hadn't considered it because to him it was just a feather.

As Helios again thanked him and began to walk away, Tzeentch bowed his head slightly and proceeded to turn around, until his tail feathers were poked, at which he squawked loudly in surprise and turned on the culprit in time to watch her scamper off. He let off a few more caws in her wake before turning around cawing lowing as though he were grumbling about the unexpected touch.

Undoubtedly, Arleth had been eager to make it ashore. Not for the want of being on solid ground nor boredom, but simply because she was interested in seeing what they would be dealing with and if it would be a difficult task or not, either way she thought the situation would be stimulating. As the ship thumped into dock, Arleth readied to disembark, heading confidently and steadily down the gangplank. The sudden rumble of the ground caused her to take pause, an eyebrow raising slightly as she spoke somewhat to herself but also a little to her comrades, “it seems we have arrived just in time.”

With a hand on her hip she strode nearer the chaos though still maintaining a safe distance, her arms now crossing over the leather chest of her armor and her iridescent eyes glancing to those running away as they neared her vicinity. Though inevitably she opted not to interfere and instead moved nearer the stone wall of one of the buildings as it trembled and sprinkled bits of loose debris on the ground around them, simply watching the seemingly playful brawl for the moment.

Despite not taking her eyes from the duo, she spoke again to the other guild members, “any ideas other than waiting for them to tire?” Her attention turned slightly as they knocked over the house, to which she sighed and shook her head, she would hate to be part of the clean up crew each time these two decided to go at it.

III

Parfa was aghast at all the inconsideration when she realized the two were playing, ignoring the panicking townsfolk and knocking over that house. “I will talk to them before they hurt people.” she said sternly from beside Arleth, taking off her green cloak and letting the crest of the raven guild on her leather armor show.

Paw rummaging into an embroidered leather pouch that hung from her belt, Parfa immediately pulled out a red and purple feather both with small bones tied to them and a small wooden carving of an owl. Quickly singing in the language of her people, the feathers crumbled into green dust that settled on her paws and swirled around her jaws, as a white spirit pulled itself out from the wood, then flew on to her shoulders.

It was a small ethereal owl, so small that it can sit on one’s palm, with little tuft ears one could only notice if one looked closely. It wore a ghostly chevron patterned embroidered necklace with a blue stone woven in the middle, and its big blue eyes automatically glanced at Parfa, before turning a hundred and eighty degrees to look at Tzeentch, Helios, and Arleth, hoot at the raven in greeting, then look back at the direction Parfa was looking. The owl had an intelligent look and the calm air of one that’s lived for a long, long time.

“Follow me, Sasha.” said Parfa, crouching. The little owl took flight. Then the chimera leapt onto the roof and launched herself into the air. Green dust trailed behind her as she landed softly three roofs away from the playing dragons.

“YOU TWO.” rumbled a gentle, but stern mama voice of thunder. “DO NOT PLAY HERE WHERE YOU CAN SQUISH HELPLESS CREATURES SMALLER THAN YOURSELVES. DIDN’T YOUR MAMAS TEACH YOU ANY MANNERS?” boomed the voice, rattling the windows and reverberating in people’s chests. “I’M OVER HERE, DOWN HERE.” And they would see a smaaalll chimera Collie, tail raised in display of dominance with paws on her hips, looking up at them like nah-uh.

III

On the bronzed Betsy, Helios simply accepted the offer and made simple medicines for those who need them.

As the ship boarded and they disembarked, the Draec healer looked at the ground; feeling the tremors. He peeked at Arleth, listening to her words, and mentally sighed. Maybe they would be able to finish this mission faster than he thought.

Following the crowd that’s running away and seeing the parties in question rolling around and destroying another house, Helios’ lips pinched. Yep, he was used to seeing this, large dragons rolling around, and not really caring about the ones around them. Before he could open his mouth to try to catch their attention, Parfa walked up to them first. Worried that the dragonic beings might accidentally squish her, Helios stayed close to her side and watched in marvel at seeing a cute tiny owl coming out of a wooden carving.

He resisted the urge to squeeze the tiny owl.

Helios blinked owlishly when the tiny owl amplified Parfa’s motherly words. Then he covered his smiling mouth, coughing a bit. He couldn’t help it; Parfa is scolding large dragonic beings to stop like a mom would scold her child for misbehaving. It’s just —- it’s too much.

III

The Dragon and Dreac hadn’t noticed anyone in the way. It was just them and nothing else. The Dragon flexing for the Dreac as they snapped back and ran forward to show they were strong as well. Each seeming to show off for the other as they tumbled through the village. It wasn’t until a voice rang out that they stopped a moment to find out what sort of mammal was howling at them.

The two took a double take. This puppy dog was yelling at them? They looked around to the people running away, to the buildings that lay flat. The red and grey Dreac looked past the chimera and saw someone behind the motherly scolding. She sniffed the air, another one of her kind. They better not be here to shoehorn in on the dragon. She growled at Helios as the Dragon sat up from under her and gently pulled her off. Nudging the grey Dreac to stand down.

“We got carried away didn’t we?” The dragon shook some rubble off herself and looked at the two sheepishly.

The Dreac woman huffed and sent a puff of smoke out, regardless of the rubble these people shouldn’t have butt in. If she had been in her humanoid form her cheeks would be bright red. Instead the woman told the dragon, “I’ll see you next time.” and ran off, mainly to avoid feeling embarrassed in front of the dragon.

“Nadine wait!” The dragon moved towards her but looked back at those people, their insignias…. Were they from those guilds she heard about? She hung her head down as Nadine took to the sky and disappeared from view. Turning back the dragon sat on the ground and moved to look at the chimera and male dreac more eye to eye. Well as best she could. “We… hardly noticed the village… “

III

Talk to them? Arleth couldn’t help but echo a snippet of Parfa’s words in her thoughts as she glanced to the Chimera preparing her spell, one of her sleek black eyebrows raised. As the little ethereal owl appeared, Tzeentch flicked his tail feathers slightly, tilting his head this way and that curiously and blinking his little black eyes before cawing a return to Sasha’s hoot. Though Arleth made not a move until Parfa started her roof jumping which was when the Half Fae moved from the wall.

Arleth’s gaze trailed after Helios as he stayed close to Parfa and after the Collie Chimera let loose her booming but brief lecture an expression crossed the Half Fae’s pale features as if she were asking, ‘did that Chimera really just scold two dragons?’ She then sighed before moving forward and giving a slight leap into the air, during which her form became quite a bit smaller comparatively and Tzeentch left her shoulder taking to the air as a ripple of black travelled down his mistress’ form until she was a virtual mirror image of himself.

The two ravens flew to Parfa’s side, Arleth regaining her human form just as swiftly as she abandoned it, her feet touching down gracefully on the roof as she gave a brief bow with one hand behind her back and her other in a fist against her chest, Tzeentch once more taking up his perch on her shoulder. No words passed her dark lips until after the Dragon had finished speaking and only then did she interject.

“I beg your pardon, Madam.” She spoke loudly and clearly, her tone firm though respectful, “My name is Arleth and my colleagues and I are here representing Kolan’s Raven Guild. While we do not presume to…” she glanced around at the havoc that the Draec and Dragon caused and continue to cause the townsfolk before placing her gaze firmly back on the Dragon, ”disrupt your prodigious bonding with your acquaintance, we have been contracted by the citizens of Shnardlepuff to hopefully come to some sort of agreement about your… raucous rendezvous.”

III

When he heard that warning growl, Helios’ melodic chuckling was cut short. Then he snorted, obviously annoyed at her. He. Was. Not. Interested. Nor will he be for years.

His green eyes rolled over to the sheepish dragon, his annoyance fading as he can see that at least one of them has the decency to feel ashamed. Then the Draec left in a hurry. Again, Helios became annoyed. What is the point of having a potential mate if you’ll just leave them to deal with whatever comes your way? Coward. Even if said dragon is only a friend, it’s still not nice. This is her fault too.

He listened to the conversation, his annoyance fading once more as he watched the dragon realize what is being said by the group’s leader. His brows furrowed in understanding of the dragon’s situation.

“Hi, my name is Helios. Is there a reason why you are doing it in the village and not somewhere that has a big and empty space? I’m sure you realize that this place is not exactly dragonic-proof.” Helios asked, tilting his head up to look at the dragon. A soft frown etched on his pale face.

III

Parfa grabbed Helios’ arm when the red and grey draec snarled, powdering him with some of the glowing green dust on her paw that traced a faint outline of a magic rune. She was shaking, then she looked away from the dragon, shielding her face with an arm from the dust that billowed as the draec took flight; Helios would suddenly see that hidden behind Parfa’s arm, her brown eyes had changed to Sasha’s piercing blue.

Up above, the soaring little owl would hear a secret whisper from the Collie: to latch on to the draec when she passed her. “Please find out where she lives, Sasha.”

Hoot. Sasha dove into the white clouds, and attempted to sink her claws on a thick scale, where hopefully the annoyed scary draec wouldn’t be able to feel her wedging herself into a nook, tucking in and making herself as small as possible.

Parfa blinked and her eyes were brown again; Arleth was already talking, as she looked back at the dragon who was surprisingly polite for something very large. She suddenly felt at ease hearing Arleth and Helios’ calm voices. Her shaking stopped, and she settled to listening to the conversation with interest, the green dust swirling around her paws and jaws like tiny glowing fireflies.

III

Nadine had flown to the edge of the island where a small house stood. She shifted to human, unaware of the little spirit like owl on her person. Nadine went inside the small home. It was simple, only the bare necessities inside and maybe a few personal trinkets. The woman say on a chair and buried her face in her hands. She should’ve stayed back there instead of leaving Belladonia. So stupid. Her instinct just took over.

“Bella’s gonna hate me..”

Among the guild members Bella looked among them all. The chimera was interesting, she never saw one this close before. Especially not one this cute or so riddled with the smell of magic. “We were at the edge of the island. Guess we rolled too far west...again..” She gave a half smile to them. “I’m sorry about Nadine she’s easily spooked by people, especially those of her own kind,” Bella looked at Helios. “I’m sure you mean no harm..and we didn’t mean to hurt the people here honestly. The plains east are just...well perfect for us.” The dragon seems sheepish and shy, and very apologetic.

III

A cloaked figure slowly strode out of the boat that the rest of the party had departed from, walking by the sailors and civilians. The figure stretched and seemed to yawn as they walked, everyone around them completely oblivious to their presence. There was a sort of weird aura around them that slowly dissipated into the wind as they pulled the hood off of their head. Sunlight reflected off their white hair, that caught some people’s attention. A few bystanders questioned where the woman came from, but most people were too busy running for their lives to question it.

Lirletta was chuckling as she appeared behind the group, “I didn’t expect this at all. I knew it was a good idea to follow along.” Lirletta had hidden aboard the ship that this group had gotten on. She had asked to be on this quest, but didn’t want to be bothered on the ship. “Can any of you help me fix these buildings? This .. rambunctious couple don’t seem to be able to do it themselves.” Lirletta asked the other people in the group. Of course she had experience with using her gravity magic to put the pieces of the buildings back together, but help would be appreciated.

III

"HER OWN KIND?" repeated a confused Parfa, the green dust swirling into faint runes that swirled like a cone before her jaws.

She questioningly put a paw on her chest, then looked at Arleth and Helios, baffled. Then her gaze narrowed on Helios. She gasped, then looked at the dragon, and then back at Helios again.

"You're a draec?" she asked him, amazed.

T'was then someone she had smelled before in the guild, but did not get introduced came up from behind the group. "Oh, hello, new friend!" Parfa's tail wagged. "I can't, currently in a conversation. This is Helios!" she added brightening up. "I am Parfa, the draec who flew off was Nadine, and this is . . ." she extended a paw to the dragon, but it remained open as she remembered something. The green dust swirled into a rune cone around her jaws again. " I'M SORRY FOR INTERRUPTING, BUT WHAT IS YOUR NAME, COURTEOUS DRAGON?"

Meanwhile, on the far edge of the island, Sasha hopped behind Nadine and slipped through the door before it closed. She ducked behind a broom, peeked out when the draec buried her face in her hands, then silently flew up the rafters.

There behind the wooden beams she continued to watch, looking below the house every now and then for another exit other than the door.

III

“You don’t have to shout.” The dragon chuckled. “It’s nice to meet you all, I’m Belladonia, though you can all call me Bella for short.” The dragon gave them a little nod. Bella looked over at Lirletta. “Oh another Dreac,” She looked over at the woman helping to clean the place up. “Here let me, was my fault we ended up here, we wanted to avoid the farmlands but I guess we just tumbled to town...” A blush would form on her cheeks if scales could change color like human skin did.

Bella stood up and did a quick shake to prepare herself. “Sarceo” Her voice echoed, pieces of rubble and buildings floated through the air and started to assemble and repair. “Surely a Dreac and a Dragon can put all this back together, It’s the least I could do..” She said sheepishly and then got an idea. “Nadine just,” Bella sighed and rested her head on her hand, looking to the distance dreamily. “It’s easy to get distracted by her.” All the while the rubble still was being repaired magically bit by bit.

At her home Nadine sat, not noticing the little owl among her things. There was a small fire place in the home, Sasha could easily escape through there. The dreac had come to a resolve and straightened her jacket. She’ll have to woman up and just return and apologize. IF no one had already tried to follow her that is. The dreac went out the door to make her way back.

III

Helios took a deep breath, his voice stayed calm.“Yes, I’m a Draec.”

Well there goes his hopes of not revealing his race to anybody for a while. Then again, he shouldn’t have gotten his hopes up either. Not when there’s another Draec who is apparently sensitive to their own kind . . . Like him. He sighed as another woman from the Raven guild came, peeking over his shoulder, and nodded as a greeting.

His green eyes looked back at Bella when she spoke while fixing the town and sighed. Twitterpated, he concluded. “I shall help as well —- let me know if anything is happening, Parfa.” Helios told the doggie chimera and made his way to check on the townsfolk; asking if there was anybody who needed medical treatment. He’d pull out some salves and bandages, even grew a few thin roots from the ground to make splints for anyone who might have a broken arm or leg.

His attention turned back to the helpful dragon as she spoke again, pausing from wounding a roll of bandages before shaking his head. Should he blunt about this? Perhaps he should be careful on his words —— it doesn’t seem like Bella meant any harm. She’s just twitterpated . . . With someone who just left her behind.

He’s not gonna let that go, is he?

After mentally scolding himself for caring too much about Nadine’s actions, Helios cleared his throat. “You really care about her, huh? If you don’t mind me asking, when did you two meet?”

III

“Well… it’s a bit of a long tale, but I was well her prison guard and she was a-a test subject in the Spire for magic research…” Bella said sheepishly. It was a sad story but the ending was happy. They were here now, just recovering before moving on. The members could see that physically recovery was going well, but Bella knew Nadine needed a little more time to adjust to well, people and beings. Romping around villages wouldn't help that either. Maybe it was fate these guild members were here, just the push to find a real home and start something with their lives hopefully together. “before I helped her escaped that is. She couldn’t fly then.”

Arleth had taken to standing with her hands on her hips, her darkly stained lips remaining closed and relaxed as the others conversed with the dragon. She didn't really think anything of most of what the dragon said to them, it was understandable, their lives and bodies were rather expansive when compared to practically anything else, it was easy to believe that they hadn't noticed the destruction they were causing while they were causing it, though she couldn't easily understand how they couldn't notice the damage they had caused when their romps had ended. One of her hands moved to lightly rub at the soft skin under her chin absently as she listened to the others talk.

As Lirletta approached, Arleth shifted her gaze slightly, giving the woman a respectful nod, though shortly after she gave an abrupt chuckle that ended as quickly as she had started when she asked if anyone would give her a hand cleaning up the rubble. It was entertaining considering Arleth had been musing moments ago on how she would not ever want to be part of the clean up crew and that hasn't changed. She shook her head slightly, not specifically responding to the query, and looked back as Parfa exclaimed and when she glanced her way, Arleth shrugged slightly and glanced to Helios, assuming that she must be speaking about him, though her reaction to the fact was not even remotely as exuberant as Parfa's.

"How tragic..." The statement was made in the typical emotionless way that Arleth said most things though her hand lowered from her chin and was used to gesticulate as she spoke, "of course I have a mind to think that the citizens here didn't explicitly hope that we would end our encounter amicably and I would hate to think what would happen should we be unsuccessful in coming to some sort of arrangement where their village isn't once more destroyed upon our departure."

Arleth maintained a steady eye on the dragon as she spoke, there was nothing hostile in her demeanor, she simply spoke matter-of-factly and felt that the dragon would understand the precarious situation considering what she and her potential mate had already been through, though she didn't spare any time continuing with what she was saying so that there wasn't any room for doubt as far as her intentions, "that being said, I believe that considering the current individuals present, it would not be difficult to perhaps... find you and Nadine a... more suitable location to call your own?"

III

The swirling green dust around the chimera's jaws faded into nothingness. "Hello, Bella! Nice to meet you, I'm Parfa Dawpaw!" said the doggy in her normal voice, wagging her tail. "---whoa, you're a draec too? So many hidden species in this guild." she added curiously, looking between Lirletta and Helios.

She gave a salute and a cheerful "Aye, aye, son!" to Helios as he went down to help the Shnardlepuffians. She sat on the edge of the roof, paw feet dangling as she cupped her cheek and smiled dreamily at Bella's story.

"Ah, you had forbidden love. So romantic." her tail wagged faster, as the conversation reminded her of her husband. Mm, she's got a story to tell him when she gets back home.

"And also, Bella, how did your feelings of meh prisoner turn into feelings of I luuurve her?" she added after Arleth's question, clasping her paws to her chest, and grinning at the dragon.

Meanwhile at the edge of the island, Sasha flew silently down again and wooshed in and out of the chimney in a puff of soot. Shaking herself clean, she dove to try and secretly latch on to the dragon's scales again.

Back in Shnardlepuff, Parfa felt the tug of Sasha calling in her mind, and she closed her eyes to briefly delve into the sight of her owl to see Nadine heading out. She opened her eyes again and it was her normal brown ones. She did not say a thing about what she saw.

III

Bella looked between the Fae woman and the adorable motherly chimera. “Relocation, to where? Not many places outside of Dracoviran are vast enough. You smaller beings are everywhere.” She chuckled. “Though I’m open to ideas I don’t know about Nadine, though I’m sure where I’ll go she’ll be inclined to follow...at least I hope so... ” As she spoke more villagers peeked out of their homes, some returning to the buildings that were repaired. Some staying out to see if the dragon would tell its story, it wasn’t like they took time to know these beasts romping around the Shnardlepuff plains.

The dragon looked at the beings coming out of the woodwork, looking at her curiously and she sat. “And as for your question Miss Parfa…” She blushed. “It didn’t start out like that of course… At first I felt bad for her, but as a guard it was my duty to simply do as told for the great mages of the spire. They were working on cures and new ways to utilize magic for the good of all.”

“I didn’t realize at what cost till I was assigned to her. Volitile, sent the last guard straight to a medical cavern.” She chuckled as she remembered those days back at the spire. “After becoming more aware of what was happening to her and how she was sold to the spire and its mages, I broke her out and I don’t know. As I helped her heal and remember herself I just noticed things here and there, the way she looks at the starry sky, how she liked to show off and when I got sick before heading off the Dracoviran shore. She was gentle and sweet.” Bella had a far off look in her eye. “Though with strangers Nadine has trouble, perhaps a place far from a settlement might be best to locate to now she can fly properly till she can become more accustomed. Do you have a map of the lands out here? I’m afraid I don’t know much of them myself.”

Nadine had flown her way back to Bella who ran forward to great her. “I-I-I’m Sorry I just..I got scared and.” Her head hung low.

“It’s alright, It’s alright.” Bella chuckled and nudged her head up. “You handled it well, you went, and calmed down and came back. Much better than last time.” She smiled as much a dragon could and walked back to the members. “We were just talking about finding a more permanent place to live.” Bella looked back at the guild members. "Together.”

Nadine looked at Bella, taken aback she shifted to her human form, blushing deeply. “Really?” She smiled softly.

“Really.”

Nadine pulled her hair back behind her ear. “Where will we go?” She looked at the guild members.

III

"Oh, I'm a missus!" corrected Parfa, tilting her head to show her fluffy mane braided into place with many carved bone pins, before settling to listen to the love story. She smiled and she swooned, then shook her head when Bella asked about the map, humming thoughtfully.

She wasn't surprised when Nadine reappeared. "Arleth," Parfa whispered when Bella ran forward to greet her mate-to-be, "maybe we should continue this conversation with them over lunch far away from many listening ears? Those spire mages could still be looking for them. Also," and here she hesitated, bowing her head bashfully, "I really, really, want to fly on a dragon." she looked at her leader with eager sparkling doggy eyes Helios had witnessed on Misha.

III

Nadine looked over at the guild members. Getting away from here to talk sounded nice. Bella seemed to agree with them too, though couldn’t help but chuckle over hearing the Missus. “You all may hop on my back I can take you to where Nadine and I dwell to speak of moving to a new home.” She let her wings and head lay on the ground so the members can clamor ontop of her. She didn’t mind giving them a lift.

III

Parfa was very calm in asking Bella where she was to respectfully sit on her back without treating her like a common mule, exhibiting the proper behaviour for a respectable raven guild member, excitement betrayed only by the way her bushy tail wagged vigorously.

"May I touch your scales and muscles, Miss Bella?" she asked after she retrieved her backpack from the docks then seated herself. If she was told no, she would keep her paws to herself, if it was a yes, she would mutter, "Whoa . . ." as she ran her paw down the biggest cord of muscles she's ever touched, marveling at the large scales, and then put her ear against her back and listen to the giant heartbeat. She loves her new job.

A dart of white and Sasha dove from the sky and landed on the Collie's shoulder. She looked very windswept, with one side of her feathers sticking out the wrong way like a cow lick. Parfa chuckled and gently patted them down, quietly whispering how the little owl did a god job, yes she did, and nuzzled it, before it poofed out of existence in a puff of cloud. She drew out the wooden carving of an owl from her pouch as though to check something, nodded, then put it back in her pouch again.

Parfa did her best to look genuinely surprised to see their new friends' home when they arrived there, offering her suggestion as to where the two could live as they had lunch.

She drew a map from memory, telling Bella and Nadine that her pack were nomads before and that in their yearly travels they had come upon a couple of nice secluded spots big enough for a draec and a dragon to live and pointed them out in the map. Question was what was their preference.

"There is this snowy land with frost giants, mammoths, large wintermelons, and humongous trees"; "There is also this enchanted red forest that's perpetually autumn."; "Oh, do you like flying whales? Here in this spot is a very nice view of them when they pass during their migration."

III

Arleth let out a sigh as she nodded her head in agreement with Bella’s statement about how smaller species tended to take up a lot of space despite their size, her gaze drifting off to the side as her arms crossed and her fingers drummed absently in a ripple on her biceps. Her lips puckered slightly as she thought for a moment, “most assuredly we would like to arrive at a solution that you both agree upon rather than one of you reluctantly following the other,” she doubted there would be peace for anyone if everyone wasn’t in agreement on whatever terms they came to.

Arleth didn’t pay any mind to the conversation that Bella and Parfa were having, her focus more on how to bring this quest to a conclusion so that they could all be going their separate ways. Though despite her lack of interest in their discussion, it wasn’t as though she were completely ignoring what they were talking about, her focus placed on them more attentively as Bella mentioned the necessity for a map.

It was then that Nadine made her reappearance. She watched the two lovers stoicly as they either apologized or offered reassurance, her arms remaining crossed and her leather clad fingers continuing to drum on her upper arm. She briefly focused her gaze on Nadine as she questioned where they would go before she glanced to Parfa as the Chimera whispered both her suggestion of the necessity of secrecy as well as her desire to perhaps be given a ride on the back of a dragon. Arleth gave a soft little snort of amusement as her arms uncrossed and she gave a slight nod.

“Wonderful,” Arleth spoke without a hint of emotion in her tone, though despite this, the comment didn’t seem sarcastic in the least. She followed suit and climbed atop Bella’s back as the ride was offered, not seeming nearly as pleased by the offer as Parfa was, though she was not without gratitude, “thank you for your hospitality and cooperation.”

Tzeentch meanwhile, easily maneuvered around on his mistress’ shoulders as necessary, obviously very accustomed to riding on her shoulder without getting in her way. He greeted Sasha when she flew back with a curious squawk and at her abrupt disappearance he cawed in surprise, though was summarily quieted by Arleth’s shushing to which he irately chewed on some strands of her dark hair before he settled.

It seemed that Parfa had plenty of ideas on where the two might make their new home and as she drew her map, Arleth chimed in here and there in order to aid her in making the map more precise, “or if you would prefer an island environment, our guildmates recently freed one which is deserted from the terror of a kraken,” and she then added the approximate location of the suggested island to the map that Parfa had begun.

III

Bella let Parfa feel her scales and buff muscles. Nadine chuckled at the Chimera’s awe. She felt the same way. The couple took a moment to look at Parfa’s impressive map from memory. They talked among themselves in their language. An island sounded nice, all to themselves, it would be great. Through the options Parfa gave them we really nice. Perhaps they could travel?

“We’d like to see the island, then maybe we can keep this map you gave us?” Bella asked as she they took flight, heading to where Arleth had put the island on the map.

“The forest sounds lovely but an island may be a better place to start.” Nadine added. Autumn all year round ?It sounded impossibly pretty. Though Nadine was a little put off by Arleth before the woman was very helpful after all. They flew over to this island, didn’t take too long by air and landed. “Its very nice.” Nadine commented.

“It’s a good place to start. I can’t thank you enough for the help.” Bella Smiled.

III

Sasha had given Tzeentch an I-was-working hoot. Parfa had noticed when the raven cawed in surprise and grinned at him. "She's a nether owl who lives in another world." and she fished out the owl carving and showed him. It was made of oakwood and looked like a geometric Sasha that had tiny runes etched on it. "We have a contract but we are friends, and she comes out when I call her through this, and she disappears in a poof of cloud when she goes home."

When they reached the couples' home Parfa summoned Sasha again, asking if she'd like to eat lunch with them. She hooted in agreement, taking a piece of smoked bacon from the collie, then flew over to Arleth, muffly hooting up at her then at Tzeentch from the table with her beak full of bacon. The little owl asked the raven if he was amiable for conversation and if his Arleth would not mind her perching on her shoulder next to him too.

Parfa was grateful for Arleth's help, as she turned out to be a tad illiterate, marking spots with drawings of landmarks and monsters instead of names, and misspelling a lot of places and writing letters backwards or in indiscernible scribbles.

"Of course you can keep the map, but, ah, let me, uh, make things more clear." said Parfa, a bit embarrassed. It would do no good if her first ever client in the Raven Guild got lost and ended up somewhere else because of her misspellings. That would be really embarrassing to the guild. Come to think of it, maybe it is very unprofessional looking to be offering navigational help and being illiterate. Doesn't that make the Raven Guild look very amateur-ish? She doesn't want to make her guild look like that, she definitely needs to learn how to read and write better pronto. So she asked for more of Arleth's help.

When all was done and Parfa had another thrill of riding on dragon-back across the sea, jaw panting, her tongue lolling out and enjoying the fantastic wind, she thanked the couple for lunch and bid them good luck in their new home, to have a great love life, and to take care. She gave them the address of the guild in case they have any trouble and need the help of professionals to sort it out, then trotted off to the rest of her guildmates asking them how they were going to get off this island and go back to Shnardlepuff.

After they got the reward, Parfa went off to buy some souvenirs from the town, and when they arrived back home at the guild, Parfa was very happy with the rest of the gold. This was the easiest huge sum of money she got and couldn't wait to go home to her pack and show Sol, Alpha Magnus and Alpha Thelma her big contribution to this month's land payment due.

She asked her teammates if they would be interested in "hanging out"as humans say, sometime in the future, before bidding them a pleasant good-bye and running on all fours down the hill and out of sight.

III

At the word, ‘son’, Helios blushed and busied himself with making balms and wrapping bandages to any of the hurt islanders. He wasn’t used to someone calling him ‘son’ and hearing it from Parfa just made him feel . . . Is fuzzy the right word? No, it’s more like eating his grandfather’s cold soup whenever he got tummy aches; it’ll coil around his tummy and soothes the pain.

The dreac healer haven’t paid attention to the dragon’s story as Nadine came back. He peeked over his shoulder and subtly grinned before going back to rubbing down his herbs. Then he snapped his head around in surprise at the offer of flight, squirming on top of a piece of rubble in quiet discomfort. He’s not averse to flying, worse in someone’s back. What if he falls? Sure, he can walk on water but only for a few minutes.

Unfortunately for Helios, none of the women noticed his discomfort (not that he could blame them as he didn’t say anything). So after packing his items and giving his last medicine to an old man, he hesitantly walked up to Bella. Watching Parfa who’s at awe of riding on a scaly dragon and huffed. He can do this. They are just gonna fly. He can do this. He’s not the only one who’s going on Bella’s back. He can-

He can’t do this!!

As the dragon flew over an island they are interested in, Helios held on to the closest horn or spiky scale for dear life. Staring down at the water with wide eyes. He would have screamed if he had opened his tightly pinched mouth. When they landed, the dreac did his best to not faint or kiss the dirt. Taking a moment to look around the area, he noticed how the land is fertile and though the couple wouldn’t be able to get summer fruits, they’ll need seeds for the next season.

“If you are interested in farming, I can make a list of what seeds you’ll need to farm in autumn seasons? Unless you’re thinking of making a greenhouse too, then I can write when would be perfect for the crops to grow?” He asked politely, looking at both Nadine and Bella. “There’s also some nice wild plants that’s perfect for muscle aches.”

He didn’t have a problem with showing Nadine what to look for, should she ever need some emergency salve for cuts. Helios had a feeling they might need it should they ever roll into jagged dead trees or something pointy —— he knocked on a tree as to not jinx the happy couple.

As the group flew back —- with Helios now close to Parfa and holding onto her sleeve between his fingers like a terrified kid —— the guild has their reward and he couldn’t be more relieved to just sail back to the guild. After saying goodbye to the couple, silently nodding to the obvious nervous dreac respectfully, the dreac put away his part of the gold; after buying new herbs and a few baby succulents.

When Parfa asked, Helios perked up and quietly raised a hand up with an awkward smile. In his other hand, is a bag the baby succulents were tucked and rolled in paper and hay. “I would love to. Still need to meet the rest of my . . . Siblings, right? Over dinner?” As they discussed their ideal time to go, the dreac waved goodbye and went inside the guild. Turning red again with his head steaming in happy embarrassment as he wasn’t used to saying ‘siblings’ either.

III

Before the guild left Bella had given the guild a handful of dragon scales, they would work better for spells or armors than dreac scales. Nadine had accepted Helios help with this, farming business. This was going to be great! She was excited to get started on this with Bella. The Dreac pulled Helios away for a moment before the group parted. “From me to you, if you ever set foot in Dracoviran again. Can you give this to someone, Aelin Caravich. Or just.. Put it in whatever postal system is out there. “ Nadine took a second to cast a spell on the letter. She had been working on it for a while. This was just the chance to get it delivered. The spell just added some lines to the letter on where Nadine was now. She still didn’t quite trust Helios but she felt better about him and the other dreac in the group now.

The guild flew off. Gaining their reward of gold and an upgrade to their armor. The village thanked them happily. Glad o be rid of the dragons but also glad to have had the opportunity to know them more. The story Bella told, gave them a different perspective. Still they were glad to no longer have their village destroyed in a love affair.

When the members returned home they saw the others had returned already, Calla welcomed them all and listened to their tales. “Well, go enjoy your time off, spend your rewards, relax. You all deserve it.” The leader took the cut for the guild funding from the gold and went back to her office, looking a little less tired than when the members had left her.

They had some time to enjoy themselves

Till a letter came.

Hark! The letter was from the Leader of the wolf guild pleading for help from Raven. The Glorycean armada was after John Doe, though that seemed not his name. He had ran from the human kingdom and now they were here to drag him back from his new home. After allowing her guild some rest Calla Rose rose them up to begin preparations for their trip to Galventia. The Raven Leader put her heartache behind her as they set sail.

Arriving at the shores of the island with an armada already making anchor. With their fishy Captain and friend of the guild Anahita put up a misty fog with the help of her crew. The help of a playful kraken brought down boats as the Raven guild made way to land. Wall of fire on the beach, the guilds working side by side. The wolf Dreac befalling an army, the dead raised to fight beside wolf and raven together. An old Foe met at sea and brought down. A Vampire set on the Glorycean army as a the Raven's Griffin shifter, also named Raven took to raining across from the sky. An Orc and Fea witch a back to back against the Glorycean trump card, enforcers. Even the Galventian people swooped into the fight along their guild. Though the black knight leader was no Match for the Fae leader, even posing as Human Calla sent the other woman to the ground and allowed John Doe the last blow. Sending the remaining scraps of the human army running to their boats.

As the battlefield was cleaned and the Wounded treated John Doe bowed out, thanking his guild and their efforts. For their safety he disappeared from Kolan. Heading out on his next adventure to keep the Humans from attacking the very guild he brought up from the ground. In his absence Calla Rose stepped up to rebuild the Wolf guild Hall, letttinger her members return to Niniva to rest as she accepted help from the locals graciously in her frail human act. Having to be kept to bed rest for a night to keep her human guise. She answered press and questions and help out where she could in the rebuild. When her strength "returned" she went to the capitol to see about a replacement for John Doe or taking the members of Wolf into her own guild. The answer came in the form of a blind man, odd but he was capable.

After that She returned to her Guild Hall. It had been a Week of preperation, a day of battle and another week of rebuilding. Calla returned and went to her quarters silently. Scooping up the undead cat from the floor, keeping her close. For a day she kept from the eyes of her guild before one morning calling them all together. "Alright, with my return we may proceed in our guild activities. If any of you wish to take up a quest then we shall get started on that now. If any one would like for me to join them I shall take up that request."

The battle had certainly been tiring. The constant shifting and flying around while trying to use both magic and arrows at the same time. He was never built for actual war. Sure, he's fought bandits and helped protect villages before - but it was nowhere near to the stress that had accumulated during the battle for Wolf Guild. But at least, they had won. They've managed to drive back the Gloryceans. There was the problem that John Doe - the Wolf guild leader - had to step down for the safety of the guild but Calla decided that she would stay back to help out. There was also the mini confession by John Doe which Roland felt the need to endlessly tease Calla with if not for the fact of what had happened with their traitorous elf.

See, Roland would have stayed to help Calla and the Wolf Guild. Something in him didn't want to leave their leader in another land to work while they were resting in the guild. Roland had a short discussion with Calla about helping her out and staying. However, she shot down his help by telling him that he was needed by the guild - and Henry. Mainly Henry really. The vampire looked to be a little tired. Of course, Roland still felt a bit guilty when they set out without Calla. However, Roland quickly felt the strain of what he had done and once they had returned to the guild hall, he had immediately crashed onto the bed and slept the day away.

The week had gone by quite quickly. They were just resting up without taking quests for then. Roland had typically been seen in his raven form, just flying around inside and outside before flying into his room. But whenever someone looked open to talking, he would fly down to talk to them. Since everyone was relaxing, it wasn't very busy. But still, Roland found himself bored. So he would often run chores to the town just to have something to do.

Calla had come back but had avoided them for the most part. He was sure that she was tired from getting the Wolf Guild back in order. Roland hadn't expected them to all be called together the next morning so that they would all get back on track with quests. As per usual, Roland and Henry had planned to go on a quest together. Still, regarding what had happened between Calla and Henry before, maybe it would do them some good to actually go onto a quest to sort out whatever bumps they had. I mean, that was hopefully. If things go horribly wrong, Roland was pretty sure he wouldn't be able to stop if they fight but maybe he could stop them from getting to that point.

Nevertheless, Roland quickly approached Calla with a bright grin. "Ms. Calla, are you feeling alright now? You've been very busy after all and I hope you've rested well." He said first. Considering the fact that she was willing to take up a quest, she was surely fully recovered. "Oh, uh, I was going to ask if you wanted to come with me and Henry on a quest. I think it'll be fun and we might actually finish it faster with another set of magical hands."

Given her disposition, it was easy to believe that Arleth would react in a prickly manner towards anything living outside of Tzeentch, though it seemed that wasn't actually true judging from her demeanor when interacting with Parfa's little nether owl. If anything she was quite amiable and didn't mind little Sasha's presence in the least.

Arleth made no reaction to Parfa's seeming illiteracy as they worked on the map for Bella and Nadine, either she hadn't noticed or she just didn't care, and the latter was likely because she didn't seem to care about much. Of course she didn't need to be asked and while she made no effort of it, she easily disguised Parfa's lack when it came to creating a suitable map for the Draconic couple.

Arriving back at the guild hall once all was said and done, Arleth was quite relieved to say the least. It would be nice to have some alone time away from others. To Parfa's question, she didn't really deliver much of an answer, her expression offering no hint as to whether or not she liked the idea before she watched the Chimera bound off in one direction while she turned in the other.

The week long reprieve hadn't been entirely needed, Arleth didn't particularly feel like they had even done anything to warrant a rest, though she wouldn't deny that she had enjoyed her solitude out in Darkwood. She had been sitting in the commons when the letter from Wolf Guild had arrived, a metal file in hand as she used it to shape her nails, perhaps suffering a bit from boredom. While she didn't have much genuine interest in the premise of the battle, it was a bit of a novel curiosity and would alleviate some of this stagnant energy she held.

After the week long preparations, the day would come when the guild arrived on the battlefield in the fires of combat, quite literally at times. All was going as it always had up until the Enforcers arrived. Arleth had been quite stunned that a knife puncture to the back of the skull hadn't been enough to take them, though one wouldn't know from her reaction to the failed assassination because she quickly went to plan B, igniting her attacker. The uproar of the Galventians as they joined the fight in defense of the guilds had created enough of a distraction to allow Arleth an opening of escape and without a thought, she slipped the Enforcer's grasp, positioning herself for her planned reprisal. Apparently these lumbering oafs weren't flame proof and she dispatched them easily after discovering this weakness, making her own contributions of slain giants as it were, towards her comrades' victory.

Then it was back to the Raven Guild Hall. She was sore and bruised from the battle and was eager for the rest. Her ears still rang from all the noise of the confrontation and she was ready for some silence. She hardly left her room at all, only for provisions and baths, avoiding contact with anyone and shirking attempts at socialization whenever they arose. Of course her lack of desire for interaction didn't stop her from responding to the call of the Guild Master when she joined them together for a morning meeting the day after she had returned.

Arleth wore loose fitting clothing, a contrast to the typical tight armor she usually wore. Lighter in color, thinner of fabric, and with small flashes of pale flesh here and there, it almost seemed as though she were wearing pajamas as the guild members came together. She didn't stay around long, venturing from the premises once Calla had delivered her message. She had been rather engrossed in her studies at the time and wanted to return to them, though rather then returning to them in her room, she collected her things and ventured out into Darkwood Forest.

- Two Weeks Ago -

The ethereal snowy owl fluttered on to Arleth's shoulder next to Tzeentch, her blue stone necklace reflecting the afternoon light streaming from a window. She stood shorter than half his height and preened her feathers neatly, before straightening up presentably, and then formally introducing herself in soft hoots as Sasha, Parfa's guardian, whose work lies in scouting and exchanging information for her charge. She hooted that she looked forward to working with Tzeentch, his Arleth, and the rest of the guild, and was glad that there was another bird to talk to. In her previous family, there was an owl spirit too, but she neither flew nor ate mice and liked human things more than owl things.

Parfa was secretly grateful to Arleth. Somehow her illiteracy went unmissed, and she realized, as she presented herself along with the others to tell Calla their story, that despite Arleth's dispassionate disposition, she was quietly kind. That was reassuring, like the way you are uncertain about a stranger before, but then suddenly you understand a part of how they think and realize they're alright after all.

When Helios reminded her about the dinner, Parfa gasped as though she forgot, and scampered back up the hill to pump his hand and tell him that her pack was happy to have him for dinner --- "Not to eat, but to eat with us." she clarified --- and chatted with him when he was free. It was too bad that the war stalled their plans, but now two weeks later they finally cleared a date and it so happened to be one of the Dawnpaw pack's days of tradition: The Day of the Dawn Herder, a feast day where they cheer on their wolf god Sköll who herds the sun and makes sure it rises every morning and sets every evening.

The early morning mist curled around the dark tangled canopies of Darkwood Forest. Sunrise twined around the boles of the trees, dappling across mossy leaf-strewn stones, where thick roots twisted and rose. The warmth cast away their ominous shabby grey outlines, revealing rich gleaming browns and black-gray bark as smooth as polished leather. The morning turned the curtain of mist a haze of golden pink; like smoke it rose lazily towards the slopes of the steep tall hills, where waterfalls leaped down from springs high above, and ran noisily from step to step to meet the rivers that ran down deep ravines underneath the forest.

It was here that a howl rang out, followed by another across the chasm. Many paws bounded down the rocks after a great white blur with curving brass horns and hooves that leaped from stone to stone across the ravine with ease, an erupe buck that looked like a deer with the horns of a mountain goat. A pack of doggy chimeras were trying to drive it into a corner where an arrow shot wouldn't send their prize tumbling down the sheer cliff-side. In the lead was a bear-like St. Bernard that lumbered behind and beneath it, roaring, while circling around were lighter, smaller doggies grasping on to the cliff-side, punching pitons strapped to their belts with rope into the rocky crags, before drawing bows and shooting past the erupe buck to startle it and make it head towards a jutting shelf in the ravine where they hope to bring it down.

"Good! Keep at it, my huntresses!" encouraged the bear-like St. Bernard with the deep lady voice akin to a viking opera singer. "Patience will reward us with the best welcome roast we'll be cooking tonight!"

Meanwhile, Parfa hummed as she walked down the streets of Kolan, watching the patches of sun on the grass and the shadows of the sailing clouds passing overhead the bustling city. She had just come from Gilmore's Glorious Goods, where the shop owner, the fabulous and fashionable Gilmore had finished enchanting her leather armor with a water breathing enchantment from Bella's scales. Parfa had thought long and hard together with Sol about what she should get for her armor, and in the end, they both agreed that being able to swim with the kraken was much better than any protection enchantment. Besides, it would be wonderful to be able to explore underwater, he said, and asked her if one day they could go explore beneath the seas especially that area where there was rumored to be a sunken pirate ship, to which she said, "Yea~!"

Today though was the day Helios meets her pack. They had agreed to meet at this café called Café Roasts before going to the ranch. Parfa had said okay without a second thought and now she wished she asked for some kind of landmark because she had no idea what the squiggly letters on the shop signs lining the streets said. It definitely should smell of coffee, so she spent about half an hour going around the city with Sasha, asking the owl, who could read much better than her without any problems, to help her find the shop, to which she did. Sasha was sitting above the cafe, perched atop a flower pot. Her head turned a hundred and eighty degrees and hooted loudly at Parfa when the Collie came strolling down the street. They were about ten minutes early, and Parfa smelled the surroundings, squinting at a sign on the door that she couldn't read that had the picture of a dog inside a red no-circle. She knew this sign. It meant either no pets or no dogs allowed. She wasn't a pet, but she was a doggo, so unsure if she was allowed in the café, she looked through the glass to see if Helios was inside.

“Cafe Roast”

Inhaling the subtle aroma of coffee and sighing pleasantly, Helios stirred the tiny spoon in his mug; not minding that he’s a bite away from finishing the blueberry-chocolate mousse. He leaned against the wooden chair, quietly watching the few awake people of different races walking by the window he is currently sitting in front of. On top of the floating long table is his worn leather bag, slightly bumpy from what he promised to the pups—- Helios cleared his throat—- t-to his possible siblings. The medicine for their Grandpa.

Today is the day where he’ll finally have dinner with Parfa and her family. It’s a good thing too honestly. After the war at the Wolf guild two weeks ago, Helios had to help with wrapping bandages and making sure his guildmates’ injuries were not infected. The same with the Wolf guild members. He’ll admit that he didn’t fight much —- because he didn’t want to go anywhere near a certain grumpy vampire who was on a killing spree —- but afterwards he was busy making pastes and checking on those with severe wounds. So having dinner is a nice break.

He hopes that he’d be able to not freeze. Again.

Lifting the mug up and pushing the sweet breakfast, he noticed a shadow coming from the left corner of his eyes and looked. Before choking on a blueberry and swallowing noisily. Patting on his chest lightly with a curled fist, he waved with his other hand in hopes to catch Parfa’s attention, standing up to leave. He already payed for his breakfast before sitting down thirty minutes ago. The door chimed as he opened the door, slinging his bag over hastily as he didn’t want to make her wait.

“P-Parfa! Good morning!” Helios cleared his throat before smiling politely. “You came early. Shall we get going— oh wait! Did you eat? If not, we could go somewhere ?”

"Good morning, Helios!" Parfa's tail wagged, happy to see him. She shook her head, smiling. "I haven't eaten, but I'm doing it on purpose. I'm fasting to make space for the feast tonight!" she heartily slapped her belly.

She looked him over. He seemed unchanged from the war. It'd been a week since that time and Parfa's been dodging the guild and not seeing anybody there, but she wondered how they were faring. She had chosen not to be a part of the war, telling Calla privately that a war wasn't what she signed up for. It made Parfa feel guilty though, and even now she wasn't proudly showing off the guild insignia on her armor feeling like she wasn't worthy to show it off because she didn't uphold her guild duty. She was glad though that Helios didn't get hurt and was his cinnamon self.

"Let's get going!" She nodded, and led the way out of the city at a peaceful stroll, asking Helios how he was doing. "Were you alright after the battle?"
