Name: Kazuki Yosuzume

Age: 25

Gender: Male

Personality:

Kazuki goes far and beyond the status quo for what is considered proper etiquette in Sorako society. He's respectful and well mannered when conversing with others, makes sure to never step out of line, and always has that hint of curtness strewn between his sentences. This charisma has made him a well-regarded and revered representative for the Sorako even with his modest amount of experience as a representative. Disregarding the way he conducts himself in public, Kazuki is in fact not as indifferent as he appears to be. Once someone has gained his respect and acknowledgment, he will be more than willing to open himself up to the person, breaking out of his outer mold and revealing his much more friendly and less serious self. He will be much more open about his own opinions and if you're lucky maybe he'll even crack a joke.

Kazuki's personal convictions are fairly straightforward. Although he believes that having a strong moral compass is important, he also believes that it needs to be balanced out with a level of pragmatism. A decision that relies solely on ethics may be much more detrimental in the grander scheme of things and oppositely, a decision that solely relies on practicality will be devoid of virtue. He holds these notions very tightly and applies them to the way he conducts himself in everyday life. Because of this, he may come off as somewhat condescending towards people that have just met him, however he makes sure to dispel any of these thoughts by making it clear that he is merely acting on his principles.

Despite all of this, Kazuki still has his fair share of worries. Stemming from a youth full of disdain from his father, Kazuki is in constant fear of not being able to meet expectations. When given an assignment or task that comes with even the smallest hint of expectations, he will feverishly make sure to fulfill those expectations in order to avoid disappointment. His father's tirades have left him with a desire to constantly live up to the benchmarks that people have pushed onto him. This carries on over to his role as a representative for the Sorako, he holds his occupation in high regard and believes that it is his duty to complete each and every task he is given to the fullest extent of his ability. He considers falling short of any goals as a clear indicator of ineptitude and while some could arguably call it as simply conscientiousness or diligence, his sense of duty crystal clear.

History:

Growing up in the Yosuzume household, Kazuki spent a lot of time on the farms performing menial tasks such as tugging out weeds and tending to the farm animals. However, he took no interest in these trivial activities and sought to put his interests elsewhere. Upon stumbling onto Tsukumoru's library one day, he began to grow fond of spending his days exploring the vast chasms of knowledge that the establishment contained. He spent a large portion of his time in the library thereon, studying and reading various things. Specifically, he was particularly interested in the extensive history between the Sorako and the Umiko. It was no secret that there was deeply rooted resentment between these two groups and that there was an implicit rule in Sorako society to be wary of those that came from the sea. However, Kazuki liked to believe that he would eventually be able to see eye to eye with the Umiko. Knowing that sharing these views of his outright would not come without repercussions, he has kept his controversial opinions to himself for the most part.

His personal life was generally pleasant despite a few hiccups. Kazuki was an only child and his parents rarely had any serious marital disagreements, it was the type of family that anyone would be content and happy with. His father was a well-known merchant who had made a name for himself throughout the region. He hoped that Kazuki would follow suit in regards to his occupation but as time went on, Kazuki still seemed to have no aspirations and appeared to be content with just sifting through literature in Tsukumoru's library day after day. This was irritating to his father who held little respect for studying and vehemently believed that it was better suited for the Umiko. Luckily this tension never got out of hand due to Kazuki's mother who often served as a mediator between the two. Nevertheless, Kazuki made sure to try to please his father as much as possible without giving up on his own beliefs.

Outside of his family circle, Kazuki did not necessarily have a large circle of people he associated himself with but he did become rather close with one particular person. While helping his father out with his business on a few occasions, he frequently conversed with the daughter of a frequent customer. They gradually grew to become close friends and would often spend many hours sitting in the library together reading peacefully without a care for the overbearing society around them. She soon became a person that he could often confide in about his troubles and she was even someone he trusted enough to discuss his frustrations with how things currently were. She would never complain about his rambling and sometimes even added in a few of her own comments. The friendship proved to be a breath of fresh air for Kazuki and it motivated him to further pursue his quest for knowledge. Kazuki also had other friends but as time went on, his meetings with the girl became less frequent and eventually time had withered their relationship and Kazuki soon drifted back to the recesses of the library.

The absence of someone who he could unwind with further fueled his vexation for his father's constant barrage of scorn. One night, after many heated arguments and fierce disagreements, Kazuki had decided to storm off to Tsukumoru's library to stay there for he could not stand his father's constant barrage of condemnation. He lost himself to the pile of books around him as always but this time there was something peculiar. As the night lulled on, he soon began seeing small shimmers at the edges of his sight. Eventually, he experienced the event that would dictate his life from now that point onward. Fragments of imagery flashed through his eyes in a heartbeat. Although they made no particular sense, merely a few glimpses of crops quickly withering, he was quite startled by this discovery and quickly scrambled back home. The very next morning while walking to Tsukumoru's library, he saw that many of his neighbors had lost a significant portion of their crops to an insect infestation. He of course inquired about this with the most knowledgeable person he knew, the tribe leader. He was quickly informed of the fact that he had an ability that indicated that of a candidate for being a representative. Within the next few days he is declared the Yosuzume representative and the animosity between him and his father starts to slowly numb away, little by little.
