Fantasy Kaizoic: Earth Reborn

The ship shook enough to rattle the chair Kairo sat in but not to the point where it would knock him to the floor.
The typical protocol must have been skipped in favor of swift departure. A blast of lightning struck the Noah, followed by a near deafening clap of thunder. The Coastal Apex drew nearer.

"Please stay inside your quarters as the ship launches." Yui's voice came from the very walls. Hissing came after, and the quaking ceased as balancing pressure readjusted the ship for the sudden movement.
Even then, Kairo's ears popped, either from the depressurization or to show a sign that the ship was launching.
***************

The Noah began to ascend from the facility, scaring off a few Hypos with its mass and booming engine sounds.
The Alpha Male just tossed the Oni wreckage at the North Apex, and whipped its armored head with his tail. The crack of hard scale on bone-armor echoed across the battlefield. The North Apex reeled and roared in both surprise and pain. The sound was like an erupting volcano that layered with bestial rage.

Two Crusaders took this moment to charge with their main cannons firing. The car-sized shells chipped its underbelly's hide and bounced off its armored head like mere pellets.
In a snort of hatred its attention turned to the mechanical assaulters, the crest and chest beginning to glow as it inhaled. Rearing back to stand upright, it opened its maw and a concentrated beam of pure heat exploded from its mouth. The source of the beam in its mouth flashed blue, but the beam itself was a bright mix of orange and white.
In seconds, it sliced the first Crusader in half and melted the head and torso of the second as it swept its gaze over them.

Turning to the skies, it cut circling Hypodraconis like a knife to butter. Bodies, wings, and severed necks fell to the Earth in a rain of burning carnage.
The Alpha Male howled at the slaughter of his mates and latched onto their killer, sinking teeth and claws into its sides.
The other Apex snarled and began spinning and bucking the Alpha on its back, knocking an Escusson to the ground with its bladed tail.

Two bolts of lightning struck the two titans. The Hypo was knocked off with a strike from the clouded skies above, the Apex with a bolt that came from the mouth of its Coastal rival.
The massive aquatic draconian stood on its back legs and roared a challenge at them. The sound ripped through the air like a cutting wind, and rattled with a distinct vocal sound.

The Alpha Male retreated and focused back on the remaining mechs battling its kin, leaving the two larger predators to stare each other down as the rains turned into a flooding downpour, and the Noah soared above them in a bright, burning trail of engine exhaust.

The Apex of the North glared at the Apex of the Coast. If any onlookers survived on the ground, they would have the suspicion that this clash of gods had happened before.

As the Noah neared breaching the veil of clouds that hid the path to the atmosphere, the two would roar their own challenges and charge. The North Apexes crested head lowered in a shielded charge, while the Coastal rival screeched with lightning sparking at its mouth and striking its body from the sky harmlessly.
***************

Kairo would feel his entire cabin quake to the turbulent maelstrom outside along with the roars of the Apexes. then suddenly stop as they reached the upper atmosphere.
They made it.

Kairo breathed a sigh of relief once the ship calmed down. His heart rate and breathing began to slow down. Safe to say, the ordeal was over. He shakily got up from the chair, only to crash on the bed a moment later. His mind was mentally drained. At the moment, a break was high up on his priorities. And seeing that he was advised against leaving his living quarters, it was probably the best thing he could do. He knew sleep wouldn't come easily, so he decided to just lay there. His eyes closed, and his mind thinking about what he lost, and what was to come.

After a span of time that would be blurred to Kairo, a beep would come to his door. Someone was rousing him.

He raises his head from the pillow, still a little groggy. He had no clue who would be at the door at this time. He didn't hear from Yui saying that it was alright to leave his quarters, so maybe it was someone of importance. He really wanted to lay there a little longer, but decided not to risk it. With a bit of a grunt, he got off the bed and answers the door.

A man, who was dressed in a Noah jumpsuit, held a neatly folded one in his hands. Accompanying him was a Syndroid with green eyes.

"If you are well . . ." The Syndroid spoke in a soft voice of English accent. "We will be preparing the cryo bays for hibernation."
The man offered him the jumpsuit.
"It is required that you wear this in the duration of the voyage."

Kairo forced a smile on his face before he accepted the jumpsuit. “Don’t think I’ll ever be ready for that. But hey! Now’s as good of a time as any.” He says “Mind giving me a second while I change into this?”

The man kept silent.

"Yes, sir." The Syndroid answered. "You will be notified when it is time."
The door closed, leaving Kairo to get dressed and reflect on the life he had before starting anew.

Kairo throws the uniform on the bed. From his current outfit, he took out the few personal items he brought out of his pocket and stuffed gently placed them on the table. He brought his old communicator and a few trinkets given to him by friends and family. He never thought of himself as the sentimental type, which was why it was so surprising when those things were the first he thought of grabbing when he got the news. Now though, being unsure about whether anyone he knew was still alive, he was glad that he took these along. There were a few other things he brought along, mainly a few changes of clothes. He didn't feel like properly unpacking them yet, and dumped them on the bed.

He took off the clothes he was wearing and changed into the jumpsuit. It looked alright on him and fit his lean physique well. Not too tight and not to baggy.

After an hour of waiting, another beep came to the door.
It was the Syndroid again. The man from before was on the deck below waiting by the railpod.

"Sir," the Syndroid nodded. "It's time."

“Yup. Got it.” He said, walking out of his quarters. He took one final look inside before he closed the door. It was hard to believe that it could be centuries before he next went in this room.

“Lead the way.”

They escorted him into the lower levels of the Noah.
Darker, more tightly enclosed, which was understandable given the sensitivity of this section. Defensive tactics and all.

Through the cargo decks, the agricultural preservation facilities, the research labs, they passed all of them as they journeyed to the cryogenic deck.
Once there, and finally witnessing what it was, the sheer amount of people aboard the vessel was undeniable.
There had to have been hundreds of cryopods in dozens of rows.
This was made even more impressive once Kairo remembered that this was only the first floor.

The sheer size of the thing was overwhelming. Kairo couldn't see the other side of the room.

"Wow....how many people can this thing hold?" he asked. Walking closer to one of the pods. He seemed to have been taken in earlier, as most of the pods were empty. "Looks like an entire city could fit in here."

A nearby woman in a lab coat glanced over.
"That's the general idea." She smiled.
She approached him to look at the ID number on his sleeve. She was a short, but shapely woman with red hair pulled into a short ponytail.
"Ah, Kairo is it?" She asked him. "Helen Faolain. This one's yours." She gestured to a nearby cryopod. "I can go ahead and prep you for the process."

All around him, Syndroids and doctors were aiding other passengers in the cryopods.

"Nice to meet you Helen. " he extended his hand out for a handshake. "It's nice knowing there's actual people working on board." he comments, before realizing that maybe the Syndroid's AI was smart enough to understand concepts like emotion. "I mean, not that a crew of Androids, and machines is a problem." he added.

There's times where Kairo feels like a complete dumbass, and this was definitely one of those moment. Maybe he should just cut to the chase. "You know what, let's just. Do the prep thing."

She chuckled, and rolled her eyes. "Alright." She directed him to a medical desk.
After a few minutes of standard medical checking, blood pressure, history, etc. She rolled up his sleeve and pulled out a syringe loaded auto-injector.

She kept her attention on the device as she spoke.
"Now I'm going to give you a serum that is going to activate in your system once you reach the correct temperature in the cryopod. It's going to slow your metabolism and oxygen consumption to a crawl." She thought about how to carefully word her next statement. "Basically its a preservative before we put you in the freezer." She finally said, knowing that it didn't sound too friendly.
She held his hand, the injector's settings complete.
"Are you ready?" She asked.

Kairo laughed a bit at the explanation. "Anyone ever told you you're great at reassuring people?" he said, before taking a deep breathe. The damn thing looked like it would punch a hole through his arm.

"Let's get this over with." he said. "Just make sure you don't miss the vein, eh? Hate to have to do this twice. Or you know, die from overdose?" he added on with a bit of a nervous laugh at the end. Not that he didn't trust Helen, but getting injected by what looked almost like a gun was bound to make anyone a bit weary. He felt like he was five again.

She looked at him with a hint of sternness.

"Just hold still, ok?" She said, disguising an order as a request as she pressed the injector against his wrist.
In an air-compressed hiss, the serum went into his bloodstream.

It felt warm. Surprisingly soothing despite the stinging in his arm.
"Ok." Helen stood up and held his arm and shoulder. "You're going to want to lean on me. I need to help you to your pod."

Already he would feel his limbs starting to tingle as they fell numb.

Definitely not as bad as he thought it would be. He hated to admit that he was nervous, but he undoubtedly was. Doesn't mean he'd make that public though. Besides, Helen probably already knew that by now. He leaned his weight on to Helen as he strained himself to stand up.

"I'm guessing the numbing is a good sign?" he joked as he walked slowly towards his pod. The serum definitely did it's job at making the walk difficult.

When he manages to reach the pod. He unhooks his arm from Helens neck and shoulders and eases his way into it.

Helen helped him inside, and put a hand to his chest.
"Just let your mind go blank, and don't excite yourself." She smiled softly before typing a code onto the pod's side, shutting door.

The interior hissed as the cryofluod evaporated around Kairo in a cooling mist. His limbs were completely paralyzed, and his head began to swim.
This was it.

The new beginning.

“Got it.” He answered. This was it. The last few conscious moments he had, before he entered a completely new world. Even with all that he had lost, he can’t help but feel a sense of hope build up inside of him. If the future would be nice to him, this could be a chance for him to start over. A chance for him to do something with his life.

Still, it would be hard for him to mourn what he lost. His family was long gone, and he had come to accept that. But the fact that he wouldn’t wake up for possibly centuries brought back the grief he didn’t think he still had. The soup kitchen he volunteered at, the scrapyard he’d collect parts from. None of them would be there when he woke up.

‘But hey. Rebuilding society sounds much better than rummaging scrapyards.’ He thought. Something he found that he could genuinely believe.

That was the last thing in his mind before he lost the ability to form conscious thoughts.

Darkness would cloud his mind as everything drifted into blissful, unconscious oblivion.
**************

Sounds of an alarm blaring beyond the dust-covered casing would bring Kairo from his slumber.
He was cold, and the serum had lost its heating qualities.
He was unbelievably thirsty, and a growing hunger rose in his stomach as his senses returned to him.

His mind was cloudy as he fell out of unconsciousness. He opened his eyes only to find himself in an environment unfamiliar to him. That confusion was quickly drowned out though, as feelings of intense hunger, thirsts and the chilling cold overtake his body and his thoughts. At that moment, his mind seemed to have reverted to an almost primitive state. All that he knew was that he needed sustenance, and he needed it fast.

With whatever strength he had, he banged on the casing in an attempt to get it to open.

The case opened, and sounds of many other passengers coughing and gasping for water filled his fluid-filled ears.
Kairo would almost fall out of the pod, as his strength would not be with him along with the cold numbness in his limbs.

A nearby Syndroid woman, coated with dust collected from her self-deactivation, rushed to assist him.
"Are you well sir?" She asked in a Midwestern accent. A container of water was offered to him. "We are rushing to bring purified water, don't worry." She set him on the floor, which was warm in comparison. "Are you seeing clearly? Does your chest or head hurt?" She checked his eyes.

The water he was offered was quickly gulped down. The relief that came to his throat was almost heavenly. With the water in his system, and the comparably warmer floor heating him up, he was finally able to think clearly. His limbs were still weak, and his stomach still protested from the lack of food, but it was a start.

“I think I’m alright. You know, provided the situation that we’re in.” He answered, his voice sounding rough and coarse. “Got a bit of a headache.”

The Syndroid took out another water bottle from a containment attachment on her back.
"Drink this in sips, don't down it." She helped him to his feet. "You're dehydrated from cryo. Go to the Atrium. They are dispensing food for all passengers."
That only meant one thing.

The ship landed.
