Hello all! Thank you so much for your interest in the roleplay! This page will be where your character apps are posted. I’ll keep things fairly straightforward, so don’t stress this too much! Code is not required though I do highly recommend it. And all FC’s are expected to be realistic (real people), with characters above the age of 18.

Lanky, thin, and wiry are all good descriptors of both of his appearances. He is not muscular by any means, but he can hold his own.

Lysandre is very attractive despite claiming the opposite. His hair is deep chocolate that sits in nice curls, the cut being shaggy yet decent looking (has it slicked back most of the time). His eyes are a deep, rich blue color with green flecks around his pupils. His skin is pale and has a few moles and beauty marks littered on his person, despite his clothing covering the vast majority of his skin.

Lys tends to wear rather formal clothing--a nice pair of slacks, a sleeveless half turtleneck, and a well-made coat that reaches his knees. He is either in flat boots or heeled ones depending on the occasion, and a round pair of glasses are always seen on the bridge of his nose. His syle is by no means gaudy, but he is always presentable.

Lysandre, at best, is an enigma. He comes off as rather cold and rude, not letting people within arm's length of him. He is mysterious to a fault, keeping to himself and fending off others with harsh words and sarcastic nature. His tongue is as sharp as a dagger, always ready with some form of comeback or harsh critique of those around him. He can be seen as an angered cat in the sense of his claws match his bite, and he is far from scared to defend himself. His fists may pack less of a punch than his words, but that doesn't mean he is harmless. Ly is a smart man--highly intelligent with a map and a bow. He is as dedicated as they come, not stopping until he has what he wants.
As dedicated as he can be, he hides every fear behind a sour expression. He is terrified of getting close to others out of fear they will get hurt over something he does wrong, and he cannot take any more blood on his hands. He is happy enough to watch from the sidelines, never getting too close or involving himself. He would rather die than let anyone know how he truly feels--the loneliness and guilt that haunts him, the burden of trying to find a way to revive his siblings, trying to find his father and bring him to justice--all of it is kept well under wraps and away from prying eyes. He is just as scared of love as he is of failure, so he never speaks of it.
Gods help the poor soul he does fall in love with, though--he is by no means healthy, but the person who would hold his heart would also have no idea if left up to Lysandre. He would rather die than let any emotions other than disdain and annoyance show though his mask, and he has every intention of keeping it that way. Perhaps a bit of love and tenderness would warm him up to the world once more, but he has no mind for that...for now.

Lysandre grew up in an extremely religious household alongside his three other siblings; He was the second youngest of four. His siblings were his pride and joy, often tasked with taking care of them and making sure no one was getting hurt. From a young age, he was seen as a caregiver--his father was a pastor at their local church, and their mother was never around much. She got extremely ill after giving birth to his youngest brother Abel, leaving her bedridden until she died when he was around the age of 12.
His father began to drink heavily after the loss of his wife, which left the task of raising the children on Lys' shoulders. He took the job with pride, but it left him without much of a childhood. His father was a mean drunk, often taking his anger out on him or his youngest brother. It wasn’t until he was 15 did his older brother finally fight back, knocking his piss-drunk father out with one fell punch did the man never dare to touch the younger kids again.
Not for two years, at least.
One night when he was 16, his father and his older brother Aziel had gotten into it rather viciously over a mistake he had made when his older sister Yvette stepped in and tried to calm down the fight. His father snapped, and that night, the blood of his three other siblings coated the floor of their small home. He was the only one left alive due to Aziel telling him to hide in his closet. His father had fled the scene and was never found, but that night haunts him to this very day. It was then he vowed to do whatever he had to in order to find a way to bring his siblings back, or at least the older sister who protected him from their father--she never deserved that fate; none of them did. His demeanor switched with the brutal killing of his siblings, going from a sweet, loving boy to that of a standoffish, sarcastic asshole who never got close to anyone else. He feared he would get those he loved killed, so he kept to himself until a very specific artifact was just within his reach.

Animated Shadows: Known as the Prince of Shadows, Rowan has “living” shadows that speak to him and gather information. Usually able to be kept under wraps, there are some times when a shift in mood can make him lose control of them.

Emotion manipulation: Rowan is able to manipulate the emotions of those around him with varying effectiveness depending on their willpower and mental strength. Those easily manipulated are more easily influenced. He can also absorb some manner of physical and emotional pain into himself, though this comes with serious side affects and drains his energy rapidly.

Rowan is bold and charming, outgoing and charismatic. He’s quick witted and always cracking some joke or another, and is a fan of harmless pranks. Despite his dark and shadowy powers, he comes across as lighthearted and carefree, if not arrogant and roguish.

His silver tongue and optimistic demeanor make him a favorite with the people, and his east going confidence is contagious to others. He doesn’t take much too seriously, which has landed him in trouble in serious affairs.

He’s talkative and energetic, always on the move. He’s over friendly and loves to be the center of attention, with endless stories to tell about his adventures as prince. His ego isn’t stifling, however, and he seems to have a preternatural charisma about him that makes him a natural born leader.

He’s flirtatious and confident, edging on bold, with a zest for life that you either love or hate. He’s shamelessly him, for better or for worse and the most stubborn individual you’ll ever meet.

He dives into most things headfirst, without stopping to think about them first. He has no sensible fear of danger and isn’t afraid of dying. Because of this, he’s seen as reckless and egotistical, but he believes his goals are worth doing anything to attain, even if he dies on the way.

early life

Rowan was born on a small pirate island to the south of the capital, to Captain Seymour Crowe and his right hand, Hafiza Crowe. His childhood was a blur of blue—he spent most of his early years at sea, learning everything that he would need to know about being a real Pirate at the side of his father, whom Rowan adored more than anyone.

A restless child, Rowan was always on the run, up to no good. The village people adored him, and made sure he was looked after, especially with the rank his father held. He never attended schooling, something he’s ashamed to admit now. He was taught to read and write with proficiency by his mother, but he’s hopeless as most other school subjects.

later life

As he grew older, he began spending more and more time outdoors, exploring the first on grand Hunts and practicing his swordsmanship with the men on his father’s crew. He attended his duties with a laid back demeanor and brought another meaning to princely leisure.

His powers began to develop as he aged, the living snake like shadows that trailed him making their first appearance after being startled awake from a nightmare. With nobody on the island with powers like his, mastering them was a struggle.

When Rowan turned 16, his father announced that he would be going on a journey to the End, in pursuit of the Book of Blood and Bone. He left shortly after, leaving Rowan and his mother behind with promises to return with treasures beyond anything they could imagine.

Months passed, and eventually years with no word from his father. His mother seemed to sink into a depression, her health rapidly declining the longer they went without word from her husband. She eventually died when Rowan was 20, leaving him with a hollow hole in his chest where his heart had been and more shadows than he new what to do with.

Rowan made a vow at his mother’s funeral to grow strong and gather a crew, and eventually make the Journey to the end in hopes of returning with his Father and the Book, if only so he could bring happiness to his people.

Determined to carry on the legacy his father left him, Rowan pushed aside his anger and sadness and put on a show for everyone around him. The legendary Captain Crowe of the Dawntreader was still just as bold and charismatic and charming as ever!

Little did they know he was crumbling inside. It didn’t matter, he’d make it to the End or die getting there. He just hoped his Crew felt the same.

Weapon

- While his primary weapon would be considered a white katana that he tends to keep sheathed most of the time and he holds dear to him. Xiao can practically make anything in his hands into a weapon, and even when unarmed, he can be a deadly fighter as well.

Abilities

The Way of the Storm - Taught by his mentor long before his death, Xiao had learned the sword form known as "The Way of the Storm", the sword form can either be used with one sword if not multiple. However, the different forms used may require a more durable weapon. The sword form is a manipulation of the body, mind, wind and thunder/lightning.

{Form One: Raging Flash} - The user sheathes their weapon to their hip and remains in a drawing stance. While focusing all energy into their dominant wrist, the user generates the will of thunder at the base of their feet as well as along the blade while sheathed. Once energy levels have reached critical state, the user moves at immense speed to perform a single slash that is meant to both electrocute and decapitate their opponent at once while leaving a burn trail from their previous position to their strike. The longer the charge is pushed passed its limit, the more powerful the slash, however, pushing passed critical point causes the user to emit electricity from their body due to it having nowhere to circulate causing mild to severe burns on the user.

{Form Two: Vortex Winds} - The more weapons the user has access to, the more powerful this form is capable of. The user crosses their arms against abdomen to hold their weapons behind them while they draw all their energy into both their arms. When the user believes they have exerted as much energy as possible, they will swing both arms out from their crossed positions in a single motion. This will cause all built energy to release at once causing a large hurricane-like vortex of wind towards the opponent. Every moment the opponent is struck with the large amounts of wind is similar to that of being slashed by multiple blades.

{Form Three: Call of the Wild} - Inhaling deeply for a moment before finally exhaling, the user grits their teeth firmly before flexing and largely buffing their arms, legs and chest. During this stage, the user's physical prowess is highly enhanced allowing for multiple normal feats that were once impossible to become possible. The user is able to rapidly switch more focus onto different parts of their bodies for different purposes such as shrinking their muscles from their legs to focus all remaining into their arms for stronger punches, or lifts. Focusing their muscles into their chest by shrinking their arms and legs muscles for more durability and so forth. However, this form can only be used for a certain period of time as long as the user has the mental and physical ability to do so due to how it rapidly increases the user's metabolism. Pushing passed limitations risk the user allowing their metabolism to begin eating away at muscle tissues that can lead to temporary to permanent damage of their internal body.

{Form Four: Heavenly Strike} - The higher up into the air the user is for this form, the more effective the attack will be. The user descends from wherever they are while holding onto their weapon as tightly as possible. Because of this, it is recommended that this form to be used with a single weapon to maximize efficiency. After a certain degree of speed has been achieved while descending, the user inhales a deep breath before their body is enveloped in a shroud of lightning/thunder (If storming, the user becomes a form of lightning rod to increase power behind strike). If the user is still capable of increasing speed during descent after this, their wind will morph the enveloped user's shroud into that of an image of a dragon. After which, when the strike is finally followed through, the pressure of speed and lightning is brought down onto the opponent in a single attack that is capable of causing a crater to form depending on how much speed was attained during the fall.

{Four Five: Ryujin's Wrath} - Only capable of being used when there is a storm. The most powerful of all the sword forms as well as the one with the highest possible risk to the user. The form requires the use of Form three as well as Form four to an extent in unison. The user must find a way to reach the highest point possible throughout their nearby surroundings during the storm. They raise their weapon into the air and allow themselves to become a direct lightning rod. When eventually struck with lightning, the user must be enduring the burns of the strike while keeping their weapon raised, eventually after being struck multiple times and burned several times by the lightning. The user is then supposedly to gain the will of Ryujin, their blade if it had survived the onslaught is to be glowing a white-ish blue color while sparking off electricity from the blade. After which, every strike that the user goes through is to send shockwaves along with waves of thunderous energy from the weapon while moving swiftly similar to the currents of wind. The negative outcome of this is that throughout the entire battle, the user will be continuously burned severely until they release their weapon allowing the burns to subside, and the form to end. If not, the user will be burned till death. (Xiao has never used this before due to its risks.)

To put in the simplest of terms, Xiao has a sort of split personality, while at the same time having terrible memory regarding it. On the normal occasion, he is a rather easy-going type of person who enjoys going with the flow of things and just letting his gut instincts take him wherever it might want to take him. This can lead him into bumping into strangers or walking straight into trouble without a care in the world. He enjoys trying to make everyone feel as good as he does while he is drunk, which is most of the time. Even when situations are dire, he unless he is completely out cold, he will attempt to make light of the situation as best as can possibly can.

His separate personality however is when he is in combat with another individual that he has deemed a worthy opponent or if those he considers 'family' or 'friends' are in dire need of help. In this circumstance, his usual drunkenness is immediately halted and he reaches a state of complete soberness. His thought process is more accurate, and he takes every little bit of detail into consideration. His movements which were once sloppy and uncoordinated become focused and direct.
Although, by the end of the battle, no matter what his physical state might be in, he will either pass out from the exhaustion and wake up with no memory of what had happened or will immediately return to acting like a drunken fool on the spot who once again, does not have any recognition of what had just occurred, even if it might just be a facade.

Hiroshi Takashi [Dead]
Hiroshi Takashi, otherwise known as "the man of many faces", or at least that was what Xiao thought of him growing up and having that man as his father. Hiroshi was a businessman, through and through, if he wasn't making money what he was doing, then it was completely useless to him. The thought of using money to buy anything that he did not approve of, bothered him severely, yet this was the same man who spent almost all of his money purchasing drugs and cigarettes all the time. At home, he would treat Xiao and his wife like disposable tools by telling them to make him what he wanted or get him something that he wanted, with their own money. While at work, he was the nicest man that anyone had ever seen, he talked with his employees and customers like they were Kings and Queens. Finally, when it came to purchasing his drugs, his persona was like that of what anyone would expect out of an addict that was going through withdrawal.
Himari Takashi [Dead]
Similar to a sense of her husband, Himari was also a businesswoman who worked professionally majority of the time. However, unlike her husband, she treated both her spouse and only child with deep care and always put them ahead of herself at all times. Knowing how her own husband treated their only child, Himari continued to work as hard as possible to one day be able to send Xiao out of the abusive household they lived in.
Shun Yang[Dead]
Shun Yang, Xiao's mentor in the sword form of Way of the Storm. Shun was a very strict mentor, when he had first taken in Xiao after finding his family murdered, the old man was caring at first. Although as time went on, he knew well enough that he wouldn't live forever, so he taught Xiao with as much strictness as possible. In the end, even the old man knew that Xiao had plenty of potential and that it just needed to be unlocked. He may had been strict, but deep down he cared for Xiao like he was his own grandson.

Calm Before The Storm...
Born into a family of a strict abusive father and a mother who tried to care but was unable to due to the amount of stress she was put on by her husband, Xiao spent a majority of his childhood locked away in his room to avoid making eye contact with either of his parents. When it came to food, rather than eating with the family, during the day when he had actually left the house so that he could go to school, he would steal from small street vendors who weren't looking for a meal. At school, since Xiao's father showed practically no care for his own family and his mother too worried about being the next target of his anger, he was never dressed in any fancy clothing or had anything expensive let alone standard stuff to begin with. Because of this, Xiao was an easy target for many bullies to pick on him constantly due to his inability to fight back.

Most days when he had come home, he would be covered in bruises all over after being bullied and his mother would patch him up when she had the chance. Trying to tell her son that she would one day get herself and him out of that home and they would one day live a good life together somewhere. Xiao would always only agree with blank expressions across his face just to please his mother even though he knew well enough that such a thing was only a dream.
One night, while Xiao had been resting, the sound of screams and gunshots being fired off outside of his bedroom had woken him from his slumber. While hiding under his covers, he waited for the sounds to become silent before leaving his room only to find the corpse of his mother and father on the ground covered in blood. The sight of this sent Xiao into a spiraling shock and depression before filling the room with screams.

On that same night, Shun just so happened to had been on a stroll as he heard the screams of a child from a home. By the time he had barged into the house, seeing a young boy there in tears grasping onto his mother's corpse brought him in shock as well. Rather than leave, he took Xiao into his care from there.
Raging Storm...
Years passed and while in the care of Shun, Xiao was silent and distant throughout the first several months to years with the elderly man. Eventually, one day had come where the same figures came to Shun's home to plan on killing Xiao as he was found to be a survivor from that day. Rather than simply stand aside and allow this to happen, Shun defended the boy by defeating the strangers with ease. Seeing someone defend him for the first time, Xiao was surprised. After that day, he had begun to open up much more to the elderly man and everything felt like it just 'belonged'.
Years continued to go by and soon enough, Shun had started to begin teaching Xiao in the ways of the sword, telling him it was so that he could one day protect himself and others so that the day he lost his family would never have to happen again to him or anyone else. The first few months were beyond physically and mentally demanding, but in the end, Xiao showed promise and even began to show signs of mastery over his learning of the forms like no other student he had ever taught before.

When Shun had finally stated there was nothing else he could teach Xiao, the two celebrated by drinking together and having a party with just the two of them. That day was when Xiao learned that his love for alcohol was immense, the bittersweet taste and the warm tipsy feeling it gave him made him forget all his pain and worries. Since then, he had been drinking himself practically everyday. At first, Shun was disappointed in the fact that Xiao had now been drinking constantly but was surprised when he had seen how quickly he had become sober when it came to requiring combat. So, rather than force the boy to stop drinking, the elderly man simply let it slide as long as Xiao could still know when to be sober to defend himself.
Ever-Lasting Peace...?
One day, while Xiao was out heading to grab another large bottle of rum from the local store, back at Shun's estate, the same group of men from the past that planned on killing Xiao had returned. This time, they had brought many more numbers and considering Shun by this point was a much older man who was weak, he could not defend himself for an extended period of time. By the time Xiao had returned home, he was greeted with yet another corpse, Shun. Anger ensued within Xiao's heart till his blood practically was boiling.

Gone in search for the criminals from days to weeks, with nothing to show for it, Xiao eventually began to lose hope to the point that he started to threaten innocents to demand for answers. It wasn't until he threatened a family and seen their scared expressions that he realized he was losing himself to his anger. Rather than allow this to happen, from there, Xiao followed his lessons from Shun and calmed himself. Returning to what he knew would calm him down, alcohol.
Since that day, Xiao now continued to search for the criminals, all while making sure to keep himself calm using his favorite drinks and remaining as drunk as possible.

It just so happens that during his travels that he would end up meeting a man in a bar who just so happened to had been traveling the world. Through some specific circumstances, Xiao ended up joining this stranger on his journey in hopes that during their travels, he would possibly one day meet these criminals that killed his family as well as his mentor.

Selaena is a tough but to crack, and as multi-faceted as the gemstones she collects and studied with her merchant father as a child. At first glance she’s a pretty face, open and friendly. She has a way of drawing people in with her quick witted humor and storytelling skills. A master of manipulation, she’s able to adapt to any situation and draw from people the information she desires. A natural born salesman as well, she’s excellent at negotiating and making deals that benefit her in a much higher extent than the other person involved.

Behind her coy smile and sharp tongue are hidden a dangerously sharp intellect and eye for observation that allows absolutely nothing to get by her. She’s haughty, and thinks herself above other though not in a way that presents itself negatively. She’s confident and knows what she’s capable of, and she’ll make sure you know it too.

Selaena tends to be bossy, and despite only being a lookout, she tends to order people around. She means well, and usually her solutions are good ones, she just goes about it in the wrong way and has little patience for failure. In a fight, she prefers to not get involved unless she absolutely has to, and lets the men do their work. This isn’t out of cowardice or laziness necessarily, just a drive for survival that outweighs most priorities she has.

Despite all this, she is quick to show sympathy and tends to be a sort of therapist and advice giver on the crew. She has a way of separating herself from situations in order to make decisions objectively that comes in handy frequently. She’s fiercely loyal and just wants the best for everyone. She’s quick to forgive even the people who’ve hurt her the most, which can be seen as a weakness of hers.

Selaena has a soft side for children that the crew might not necessarily see. This is because they remind her of her little brother back home, whom she is going on this quest to save. She cannot turn her back on a child in danger or in need, and will do everything in her power to help them.

She’s boisterous and optimistic, and loves a good party. She can outdrink most people, and has a love for liquor that she indulges often. It’s hard to be in a bad mood around Selaena when she’s being nice, her energy is infectious and she draws attention wherever she goes.

early life

Born to a wealthy merchant and his wife, who died in childbirth in the capital city, Selaena has a much different childhood than most of the crew might have. Her father was determined to raise her in her mother’s image, and as doctor’s had warned the couple of the possibility of death during childbirth, her mother had written her letters, for whenever Selaena would need them in life. So many, they filled a chest.

She spent her early years at her father’s side, as he explained the intricacies of the modern market, and showed her wonderful merchandise from all over the world—spices and clothes and gems like she’d never thought she’d see in one lifetime. She has a love for culture that started at an early age, and she decided that she would travel the world and experience all of it when she’s older.

later life

As she grew older, she was quick to realize her eye for detail and extraordinary senses weren’t just the result of her upbringing. Magic had run on the female side of her family for generations, but had skipped her mother. It seemed that Selaena was the next to inherit the gift. The women in her family had long been gifted with extra sensory sight—one aunt could see flashes of the future, another could talk to the spirit realm she said. Her grandmother, her father told her, could view another part of the world as it were at the present moment by looking into pools of water.

Saddened she didn’t have her mother or anyone to help her learn and adapt to her newfound powers, she tried her best to cope with the trifles of her teenage years at the same time as mastering the magic that came as a surprise to her.

When she was 17, a baby was left on the doorstep of her and her father’s manor, and none of the house staff knew where he came from. Her father, a kind man, decided to take the baby in and raise it like his own, deciding it was a gift from his late wife, who had always wanted two children.

Selaena loved her little brother more than anything in the world, and as he grew, the two became inseparable.

present

When she was 19, a bandit group heard of the wealth held at the Foster Manor and ransacked their home, killing her father. Her little brother was taken and they disappeared into the night with whatever else they could get their hands on, leaving without a trace.

Something inside of her died that day, and all she could do is sit in the destruction the bandits had left and scream, every sense in her body going haywire at the same time.

She was desperate to do whatever she could to get her brother back, and after nights of asking fruitlessly throughout the town for anything that might help, she learned of the ultimate bargaining tool—the Book of Blood and Bone. She didn’t know where she’d find it or how, and so she dedicated the next four years of her life studying and preparing for that day, traveling her kingdom for whatever information she could get her hands on.

On on such travel she stumbled onto Captain Crowe, a man looking for a crew to travel exactly where she needed to go—seeking the same object she sought. Willing to do anything to get her brother back, she agreed to join the man’s crew as his lookout.

The first thing people usually notice about Nina is that she looks kind. Everything about her is soft, from the roundness of her cheeks to her pale green doe eyes. She has bronze skin that’s dotted with freckles. Her hair is a bed of soft dark brown coils that reach her mid back and are dark brown in color. Nina has a soft jawline and a small button nose. She has plump lips, and freckles that cluster more around her cheeks and nose than the rest of her face and body. Nina stands at an impressive 5’1, and has a shapely figure, her hips are wider than her torso and chest. Which gives her a bit of a pear shape. She lacks much muscle on her body and her very image seems to be comforting. She doesn’t look to be made for the sea-life, but she seems very dedicated to this journey.

Nina is a deeply flawed individual. And she’s much more flawed than she lets on. Nina tries her best to play the part of a sweet, kind girl. She’s doting, sweet, and empathetic. She is endlessly giving and dangerously charming. Nina comes off very Saint-like, and people find themselves drawn to her. Make no mistake, those doe eyes of hers are a weapon. One she uses with great skill to do what she believes needs to be done. This was her way of protecting herself. She fears vulnerability above all else and believes that she is far too broken to be cherished– or even tolerated. She has been convinced by her own insecurity that her existence is meaningless, so she has opted to pretend to be someone else. She holds herself to an unreasonable standard and doesn’t allow herself to trust other people. She tries to be someone that people would look at. She wants people to appreciate the fact that she exists, even if it’s a fake version of herself.

Nina constantly lies to the people closest to her constantly, convincing herself that she is sparing them from having to know the true her. She’s quite relentless in her hatred of herself, justifying her self sabotage as some kind of martyrdom. Yes, Nina frequently stews in her suffering, finding her own misery to be more comforting than that of happiness. Her pain is familiar to her, it is deserved. And by not fighting it, Nina can convince herself that the terrible things that happened to her were in her control because she chose misery for herself. That she was atoning for existing in some way.

Deep down, she is slightly mischievous and a little manipulative, but she is a genuinely kind person (despite convincing herself otherwise). She puts up her facade the way she does so others feel comfortable around her. She wants people to be happy. She tries to manipulate situations so everyone involved can reach the best outcome. She’s selfless in her way, and she’s very thoughtful and considerate to those she holds dear. She’s willing to do a lot to ensure the safety and happiness of the people she loves. She’s willing to do the things that most people can’t, however morally corrupt they may be. Because Nina doesn’t care about people as a whole. She doesn’t like them. She just hates them less than herself, that makes them automatically better than herself. So if you manage to become someone Nina actually likes, she's willing to do a lot to ensure your happiness. Even if it meant compromising her own. Perhaps that’s where Nina’s ambitious nature truly shows itself. Nina’s dedicated nature also shows in her workaholic tendencies, as Nina tends to throw herself into productivity as much as she possibly can. She uses academics as an excuse to ignore her problems and keep her mind as occupied as she can with little care for her physical or mental state. Nina gets antsy when she’s not doing anything.

If you can’t tell by now, Nina is an insecure person. But she’s also quite envious of others. She gets jealous of other people’s happiness, then immediately hates herself for feeling that way. Despite not trusting people in general and believing she isn’t worthy of anything good; Nina still seeks the approval and praise of other people. She bases her entire self-worth on how helpful she is to the people around her. She’s given up on being happy with herself. So, she decided to dedicate her entire being to making other people happier, hoping to find her own contentment in the joy of others. She wants to be trusted, but refuses to trust others. She thinks she’s undeserving of love, yet seeks people’s praise. In Nina’s head, she thinks this makes her selfish. But it just makes her a hypocrite.

BACKSTORY

Nina was born into a noble family, many see that as a blessing, but to Nina it was the opposite. Nina was not a welcome addition to the family. For no fault of her own, she simply looked too much like her mother. Nina’s mother, René, was a woman who was full of self hatred. Seeing a smaller, weaker version of herself made it all so easy to project every ounce of insecurity she could on to her daughter. It had different forms, screaming, hair pulling, pushing, when she was especially angry she’d simply lock Nina out of their house for the night, even in bone chilling weather.

Nina’s father was a doctor and an extremely emotionally stunted man. Unable to show any sort of affection for anyone. Not out of a lack of love, but because he didn’t think he needed to. They should understand his feelings because he financially supports them. He spent very little time at home and was none the wiser to what really went on in his house.

The only two other witnesses to Nina’s torment were her older sister, Natasha, who copied her mother because she craved Renè’s love, and her twin brother, Markus Lee, who would be the one to sneak her back inside. Markus Lee was Nina’s only source of comfort and love. Markus Lee was far from doting, because he could recognize wrong from right and would always try to minimize the punishments Nina would be given. There wasn’t much he could do though, he was just a child as well.

Nina found solace in the woods. She would run around with her brother, identifying plants with books she got from her father’s study and messily recreating herbal remedies. Hee brother wasn’t nearly as interested in the study as Nina was but he was happy to run along just in case their older sister decided to follow and torment Nina. He’d have to fight her off. As they aged, Markus Lee only got stronger and Nina got smarter and more interested in medicinal study. She was able to avoid her mother’s physical abuse after an especially bad beating led to her brother getting into an actual fist fight with his mother. Renè never hit Nina again after that.

Nina’s official introduction to becoming a doctor came from her father, during one of his visits he noticed Nina’s interest in his field of study and asked if she wanted to join him during work as his apprentice. She accepted after some thought and they set off together. Her father traveled to very far places, picking up some practices from various different regions and helping those who may not have been affluent enough to afford a doctor. Nina was especially involved during these expeditions. She quickly improved as a doctor and became pretty well known in certain places. Nina came across Captain Rowan during one of these excursions, his cause sparked her curiosity. He was in need of a doctor and she was in need of a higher purpose.

Nina offered to join his crew as a doctor, (insert some lore friendly way she found out what he was doing.) And bid her father farewell, leaving him a note for her brother. Then off she went to pursue her curiosity.

Nina has healing powers, she can heal non-fatal injuries or coax an injury to a point where the person is less likely to die so she can do her doctor stuff. Nina can’t use her powers on herself and using them is a bit taxing on her body. Overuse can cause exhaustion, nose bleeds, fever like symptoms, possible hallucinations, then a loss of consciousness or death.

In addition to her healing abilities, Nina was also born with the Chlorokinesis that runs in her family. She can manipulate preexisting plants in any way she sees fit. Nina has the same symptoms of exhaustion as her healing abilities, additionally her powers are weaker in colder seasons.

Caine usually maintains a very stern, serious, and distanced personality, preferring to appear as detached and apathetic to everything and everyone around him. He comes off at first glance as cold and serious, unfeeling. It would seem however, that this anger is the only emotion that Caine often feels comfortable showing, or displeasure, and he’s been known to have outburst and to lose his temper.

Outside of his work as storyteller and musician, he rarely smiles or laughs, and he never goes out of his way to include himself in activities with the crew. Even in moments that are particularly tough on the crew and would warrant sadness, Caine chooses to maintain a quiet solemnity rather than outwardly express his emotions. Despite this assertion, though, he cares deeply for his crewmates and wishes to protect them at all costs.

Although Caine cares for his crew, he can also come off as a very blunt and cold person, especially when he is trying to get his point across. He doesn’t sensor his words to make the blow softer for people around him, and has such unflinching honesty that it borders on cruelty to the weak of spirit.

Caine is also very perceptive, something he demonstrates by providing important and logical decisions at critical times and by evaluating the situation from an objective point of view. He values facts over fantasy, something that may come as a surprise as an artist. He’s excellent at coming up with out of the box solutions to their problems, and is quick to think on his feet.

He has a strong sense of leadership and reasoning. He is also very loyal as he will stand by the Captain’s decisions regardless of whether he personally agrees or not, stepping in only to point out the seriousness of a situation where it has been overlooked by his crewmates. He’s more of an observer than an instigator and he prefers to only step in when necessary.

There’s a sense of sadness that hangs heavy over Caine like a cloud. He struggles with nightmares and anxiety attacks, leaving him laying awake at night while the others sleep soundly around him. He’s scared to let them too close so that if he ends up losing them, it won’t hurt as badly.

Under all the gruffness, sarcasm and bad attitude lies a heart of gold, it just takes a lot to find it.

Fire Manipulation: the ability to produce and manipulate fire has run in his family for generations, handed down to the children through a dominant gene for as long as could be remembered. He can shape and direct the flame at will, and he often utilized heartless flames to paint pictures during his performances, making him so skilled at his job. He’s still learning to control it, however, and there are times when he loses control.

early life

Not much is known about Caine’s parents—they left him in the care of a neighbor when he was only a few days old and were never heard from again. The only information given to him by his adoptive parents was that they too had the gift of flame.

Raised in a poor village town by the coast, full of fishermen and cobblers alike, Caine’s childhood was a tough one. He spent his days helping his family in whatever way he could—fishing for dinner, cleaning, the like. He was a good kid, quiet and responsible and kind, never getting up to much trouble.

Every night he’d sit down with his adopted mother and listen as she’d sing, or play the flute or lyre, and he soon grew to love music, reveling in the emotion, the stories told. They gave him hope for a better life, let him know he wasn’t alone.

teenage years

An older couple, Caine’s parents grew slower with age as he grew older, leaving more of the responsibility for their care on his shoulders. He never minded it, and did all he could to earn money by singing and performing at bars and taverns in his village.

This went on for years, until Caine turned 23. Things were going well for his family, he had just enough money to ensure they weren’t struggling and they were happy. With no one to teach him to control his ever growing powers, however, it wasn’t long before disaster struck.

Plagues with nightmares since he was a kid, him waking up gasping for air and screaming wasn’t any surprise. This time, however, when he awoke, he was coughing on smoke that filled the air and flames surrounded him, leading out the door of his room and into the rest of the house.

He flew through the corridors, hoping to make it to his parents and get them out, but it was too late. He’d lost control of his flames and killed his family.

He became lost after that, jumping from town to town, tavern to tavern and performing in exchange for tip money and a place to stay. Free booze was nice, too, and he tended to drown his problems in whatever cheap liquor he could get his hands on.

One such night performing, at the end of his show a talk stranger approached him and asked if he would like to join his crew as the musician and journey to the End, on the quest for some book. Hopeless and scared he’d drown himself in another bottle and not make it out alive, he agreed to join.

Despite the charming charisma of a suave gentleman and the grace you'd mistake for any high-end noble, Takumi... is a coward. POWERS
Light projection: Takumi can project illusions of objects, creatures or persons using the surrounding light available. The projection is as close to reality as the real thing apart from the fact that it cannot be felt, or handled. Any animation of the object can harm the illusion's longevity: keeping the projection in motion kills it in seconds, keeping it still keeps it alive indefinitely. He cannot form realistic illusions in the dark, and the larger the projection, the more concentration it takes to keep it alive.

HISTORY
Due to the compulsive lying Takumi is well known for, his history is a question of authenticity. The story goes that Young Master Takumi was the bastard son of a rich noble, cast away due to his lienage and forced to scrounge the streets for scraps. Burdened with his potential, Takumi used his wits and cunning to forge his own path to success: pickpocketing, thievery, cheating, until eventually he found his calling; con-artistry.

With cheap noble garments and a naturally-gifted charisma, Takumi was able to swoon and scam in his early teens. Swindling those into a romance before taking their valuables and fleeing to the next town. Over time, his cons became more elaborate; finding him forced to learn the arts of forgery and disguise. Skills of which that only improved as the years went on, drawing the attention of many officials whom only knew him as "The Golden-dart Frog". A beautiful yet poisoness creature of dexterity.

It was Takumi's amazing works of charlatanry that eventually caught the eyes of a Demonic Prince. The devil praised him for his skills of mischief, and challenged him to a battle of wits, charm and trickery. For Takumi's soul, the Prince bargained his powers to forge light and sound, an ability to create illusions close to reality- and when given, the Demon would be banished from all realities. It was a prize Takumi considered worth far greater than his own life, and so, he accepted. The challenge: To be the first to bed a Royal.

For 12 years the battle ensued, them both fighting for a Queen's hand. Their plans, constantly foiled by the other, and their skills tested to great heights. Yet despite this rivalry, the two found themselves at a pedestal of respect to one another. A respect that grew into a strong friendship, then ... Love. On the night of confession, Takumi held the Demon in his arms and embraced him in a night of passion. For the first time in his life, a romance was true to him. For the first time, he fell asleep with a genuine smile...

When he woke... The Demon was gone. His hands glowing with immense power... Takumi was the first to bed a Royal. He kept his soul, he kept the powers, he won, yet- he lost his first love. The Queen found out the scheme after that, and sent for his head, but the Golden-dart frog disappeared...

It would a few years before his name appeared once again, aboard the deck of the ship.
