Jailed

Leah slid and ran trying her best to keep up with the 10 year old and the rest of the group. Her arm no longer hurt, thanks to one of their rescuers but she made sure to keep it pressed against her body so as to not make it worse. She could hear the gun shots behind her and felt a sharp pain tear through her shoulder just as she made it to the van. She felt herself fall at Rogue's feet, less than five feet from the van, her body crashing to the ground. Then everything went dark. She no longer felt the pain, nothing.

When she opened her eyes again it was like she was looking down on things from above.  In fact, she was. Her body lay at Rogue's feet, just outside of the van, a gunshot wound in her back and blood running down the side of her body. She could see the little girl, her eyes being covered by jamie's hands as she tried to see what had happened to Leah. DEAD. That's what she was, DEAD. With a final burst of energy, she pushed everyone into the two waiting vans, and pushed the two vans at least a hundred blocks from the warehouse, A mushroom cloud rose from where the warehouse had been as she obliterated everything, including her own body.

"I'll be okay....." Sebastian said, using the pain he had absorbed from the girl with the broken arm to shield his mind against the tortured person's pain. The person's pain was already fading by the time he finished the mental shield, but better safe than sorry. He smiled weakly and straightened up, his powers already dulling his mind to the pain around him. "We should keep mov--Rogue!" He exclaimed when she came around the corner, glad that they found her before he was forced to make another decision for the group. A quick glance at the girl Rogue was carrying made it quite obvious where the huge amount of pain had come from. She was bleeding from too many wounds to count, but it looked like they were beginning to heal on their own. The two groups joined and followed Rogue's directions to the hole that led outside.

Sebastian carefully stepped through the blast-hole in the wall, following Rogue's instruction to get in the van as dozens of guards appeared. He paused outside the van, his mouth open slightly in awe as a dragon thing and the big guy smashed, threw, and otherwise took out most of the guards. His kept his mental shield up, not wanting to feel dying mens' pain. He quickly climbed into the van after he recovered from his distraction, one of the last except for the fire-girl and the heavy-hitters. Suddenly he screamed in pain, only dimly aware of the girl that was falling to the ground just outside the van. Unbeknownst to him, using the pain from her broken arm for his mental shield earlier made the shield useless against her pain now. He shuddered at the cold feeling that replaced her dying pain, shutting his eyes against the image of her falling to the ground that was now engraved into his head. Suddenly, the van was hundreds of yards away from where they had been sitting and then the warehouse blew up, sending out a wave of heat as it disintegrated. He kept his eyes shut, breathing heavily as the spell passed. All he wanted was to get back to the boring headquarters and do nothing for the rest of the day. Debriefings be damned.

as apex smashed the airborne guard that had been flung at him, a strange force had flung him into the van causing the back axel to snap. Just as suddenly the van lurched forward several hundred yards, causing the massive beast to let out a yelp. Finally falling into a panic Gabriel tore his way out of the roof of the van and Leapt onto an adjacent building. Digging his claws into the wall for support. The flash and the mushroom cloud that followed only served to further panic him. Yelping again he leapt off of the wall onto another building several hundred yards away. However one thing did begin to creep through his fear, excitement, he hadn't smelled fresh air in over two years, and the wind felt amazing on his skin. He finally came to a stop several blocks from the van, barely in view from it. Exhaustion had begun to set in all the fighting and sudden movement had restarted his metabolism, and for the first time again in two years he was hungry. Yet he was having trouble looking away from the stars in the night sky, Inside the man and the animal clashed, one wishing to hunt the prey in the city below, one wishing to just go home...

The Dark

Victor was looking at the girl who had fallen muttering profanities too numerous and quick to be deciphered he stepped out of the van to see what he could do, but as soon as his boot touched the ground a massive shockwave blew him back into the van, the cigar in his mouth busting open like a cartoon. Then the van lurched, the Giant Beast thing ripped the roof off and ran away, and Victor for once was at a loss for words. The mushroom cloud in the distance took all though from his mind, except for one.

this just became a war...

Jaimie turned around to Gabe and motioned breaking her cuffs to see if he could do it. He succeeded although she felt a harsh pressure on her wrists before he was able to break them. They fell off, bent out of shape and Jaimie watched them for a second before moving on... that was probably the closest to control she'd ever get, or normalcy. But it didn't seem like this was the time to worry about her out of control powers, not until they were free.

With a much happier leap in her chest she realized the handle of her prized combat knife stuck in one of the guards that lined their cell in his holster. "Not so smart now, flatscan," She snickered as she tugged her knife out and flipped it in her hands. The purple ribbon was still fastened around its handle and she smirked before catching up with the front of the group and the little girl. Chaos broke out as they got closer and closer to escaping. Guards came bursting from the building and none were close enough for her to actually fight. Thankfully, their rescuers were more than capable and finally she saw why the guards were so scared of Gabe. He had to be a real pain to fight off, or more like impossible from the look of things.

They were right there... right there when Leah suddenly fell. Jaimie saw the flying woman with the stripes in her hair float down to grab her, but... Jaimie inhaled and quickly grabbed Crystal's face and wrapped her gloved hand around her eyes. Leah was gone... and she quickly turned away and hoisted the little girl into the van. She felt bad... but that was pushed away by the adrenaline, besides it was almost normal. A bunch of mutant teenagers thinking they could run off and live off the streets had worked somehow... but not so much that they'd all survived. Not everyone made it, it was something she learned young and had grown to accept.

She had one foot up on the metal floor of the van when a pulse of some sort sent her tumbling into the van, along with so many others. She was pretty sure Gabe nearly crushed her, and she could only manage to wrap an arm around Crystal and grit her teeth as the van jerked underneath them.

Rogue's eyes flew wide as she saw they'd lost the girl, she checked her fingers to her throat to confirm it had been a kill shot. She'd hardly needed it, the dead look in her eyes was one she was achingly familiar with. Rogue turned her head and was making to grab Sebastian who had fallen in pain when they were all thrown into the van by some sort of power. Someone's powers no doubt and she was simply grateful to see their new ally come into the van before he passed out. "Yah did good," She muttered as he seemed to try to speak. He passed out, maybe from the strain or an injury but they'd get him attention and water as soon as they could. Rogue squirmed her way through the entirely too small van into the front driving area and managed to slid into the passenger seat as Victor got them going.

The blast... whatever it'd been pushed them far away from the warehouse. She turned to see the bewildered look in Victor's strange red eyes, she was sure most people couldn't read emotion there- but Remy's eyes had been just as strange and she'd learned over the years being with him that eyes were eyes, despite the color, they were still the window to the souls. She pushed the wistful thoughts of Gambit out of her mind and pulled herself out of the now ruined van and shot up into the sky to try and see where they were in regards to the jet and if anyone had followed them.

Rogue got confirmation and lowered down to the van. "Alright, now listen up!" She called to the rag tag group, a frown settled over her features. "I got good an' bad news y'all. Good news, no guards for the moment, bad news, our jet was caught up in the blast. We need a place to lay low an' quick befo' the Monolith regroup. Who knows the area an' has an idea?" She looked back over her shoulder and heaved a sigh. "Might just be best for us to head to tha stretch of woods I saw outside the city limits. It's past that blasted Monolith wall," She sighed and looked over her new charges. Not to mention they had two unconscious to tend to. "Sebastian, if you're up to it, see if y'all can wake them up," She pointed to the captured girl and her ally in there. "There's water in the console." @Shadow @Jefferson @PrincessCrystal @Maori @S0urPa7ch @DavidRanger318

They were all disoriented, half crushed and in strange positions and she was still surprised when Gabe jumped out of the van. "Hey wait! It's not safe out there Gabe!" She called out to him, she didn't think he could think as well as the rest of them... he was obviously a mutant... he'd be right back in that cell. "Hey Gabe, get back over here!" She called as she ventured to open the van door and look for him. The woman with the flying powers had come back, though, and demanded their attention."I just know the south side streets, and they're well within the wall," Jaimie explained and shrugged. "I know there's some rich houses out towards the woods... but that's not really going to do much for us." She still glanced back a few times and let out a whistle once like that might bring him back. All her whistle seemed to do right away was catch the attention of the newest addition she hadn't recognized. A different dog.

Rogue mentioned the water and she grabbed one for the dog and was horrified to see he had blood on him. "C'mere honey, you need to get looked at," She said quietly, not sure if this was one of the rescuers dog or a stray that got caught up in the blast. She realized at the incredulous look from the woman in charge she'd meant the people... but well, someone else could take care of them. Jaimie wanted to make sure the dog was okay, it wasn't in the dog's capabilities to help itself. There had to be a rag or something if the dog would let her look it over. @Maori @S0urPa7ch

The familiar 'thup-thup-thup' of helicopters could be heard in the distance, as well as the sound of armored vehicles. Three black dots appeared over the woodline, opposite where the jail once was and five armored vehicles were approaching the group from the city. One Bradley Fighting Vehicle and Four APCs. As the aerial dots grew closer one would see that there were two Blackhawks and one Apache helicopter, all with 'DDF' on the side in bright white letters. The Apache overshot the group and fired some rockets toward the vehicles, causing the Bradley to go up in flames. The APCs turned their .50 caliber guns and auto grenade launchers on the attack helicopter, but we're not quick enough to counter the 30mm rounds emitted from the chin mounted chain gun. The Blackhawks circled the mutant group and landed on either side of them, about 50m away each. A single man exited one and approached Rogue. "Y'all need a ride?" @FarFlungDreamer

Melissa slowly made her way back to the light. She tried to move but her body felt heavy like something was pressing on her trying to keep her still. Then she remembered the stranger that had rescued her. Her eyes fluttered open. She again tried to move, forgetting about the beating she'd gotten. As a new wave of pain shot through her, her back arched itself off the seat she was on and she screamed in pain.

============================================================

James appeared outside the van, his body beaten and bruised. "We will be taking refuge at a hidden local on the outskirts of town. These people will take us there." He fell against the van as he finished talking then looked to his sister when she screamed out in pain. He reached out a hand to her, trying his best to hush her. "It's ok Missy, We will have you home soon and get those wounds taken care of."

Sebastian took a steadying breath and tried to focus on what Rogue was saying. Hiding out in the woods definitely seemed like the most appealing option to him. After all, a forest had sheltered him from his old faction and the Monolith a while back. He looked up quickly when his name was mentioned. He nodded, glancing at the injured and unconscious people in the van. He couldn't think of a way to expell the pain he absorbed, but he would cross that bridge when he came to it.

He closed his eyes and carefully reached out for his fellow mutants' pain. The shape-shifter in the back seemed to be tired rather than injured, but he did his best to absorb the guy's mental pain and hoped that would do the trick. Once his body adjusted to the foreign pain, he moved on to the other unconscious person. Even mentally brushing her source of pain was agonizing and his concentration broke when she screamed. "Shit. Could someone hold her still? This might be a bit rocky." He said quickly, crawling over a couple of the other van passengers so he could touch the tortured girl's forehead. Usually he could absorb pain from a distance, but draining this girl's pain would be too unpredictable without direct physical contact. He closed his eyes again and focused as hard as he could. Slowly, he managed to drain most of the girl's pain until he was shaking from the sheer agony. "I can't--I'm sorry, I can't take all of it. She should be able to walk on her own now, but I can't...can't take any more just yet." He said shakily, his voice barely above a whisper. While his powers gave him a highly enhanced pain tolerance, he had never been exposed to so much pain from a single person before and he needed more time to adjust. "Is anyone else injured?" He asked softly, eyes still shut to block out the nauseating motion of the world around them.

Choppers came and it felt like she'd spoken too soon. Rogue lifted into the air, maybe she wouldn't resign herself to killing whoever was certainly coming to hunt them down, but she wasn't about to wait until they had them all sitting like ducks. But it became increasingly unnecessary as an unmarked came up around and took them out. Rogue lowered herself down so she could protect the others more adequately. Half of them were broke and battered as it was, and the few who could fight just did to get them out of there. Dark was probably the only one capable of a brawl right now, maybe one of the prisoners, those girls seemed fine enough to, but they might have exhausted themselves.

"Maybe," She called, her eyes heavy with suspicion. "We didn' exactly have our thumbs out," She said, still trying to gauge the pilot. In a surprising turn of events, and luck James Wolf emerged and joined the pilot. She looked over James with mild worry, but he'd survived somehow, and that meant everyone she walked into that place came out... even... even if not all the prisoners came out with them. It was something she'd regret... but it wasn't something she could let poison her. Too many needed her now, especially so close to enemy territory. "Yah heard tha man, everyone get in tha copter 'for their friends come a callin'," She stressed the need for urgency as she pointed to the downed others. They needed to get out ahead of it. No more casualties and no one here dying from their injuries. That's when they could all relax and let loose. Not now, not until they were somewhere safe.

She looked over as Sebastian did his best to stabilize the girl. It made her cringe but she busied herself getting the others into the helicopter and making a sweep to the skyline to check for anything coming out their way. Nothing in her eyeline... which was good, it meant they'd be able to get in the air and out of sight before trouble came, if they were quick.

When she came back down she looked over to Sebastian who seemed to have finished and apologized for not being able to finish. She shook her head, white bangs getting in her face before she brushed them out of her way. She walked over and took Sebastian's arm to wrap around her shoulders and heave the weakened boy up. "Absolutely not," She ordered. "Yah've done enough, yah need yah're own rest. Everyone else will be fine until we get ta where we're goin'," She nodded firmly as she took him to the chopper. He could only tax himself so far and they weren't in direct danger now, he'd done his part. She wouldn't be having him push himself so far he wouldn't make it. Not if it put him in that sort of pain. She turned and carried their ally, whose name she learned was Kam, and took him in his human form into the helicopter and strapped him in. She grabbed up the waters from the console too when she saw to it everyone was in as well as James and his sister. That way they could do damage control and at least hydrate everyone until they reached safety. Rogue never counted her chickens until they hatched after all. @Shadow @PrincessCrystal

"Will Gabe fit?" One of the prisoners asked who'd stepped off the plane after poking around with the dog that had shown up underfoot near the sisters. Rogue glanced around for the behemoth she must be referring to. He'd busted their van, so she wasn't too happy with the fella, but then again he'd been trapped as much as the others and had helped them all escape. From what she'd seen he didn't seem too sharp upstairs.

"Don' know, hun, he looks a might too heavy for the chopper, we'll have to come back."

"Well I'm not going to leave him on his own." @Jefferson

"Ah can appreciate that." Rogue said seriously, and she did understand that loyalty. She understood the risk it was too. "But know yah're on yah're own until we can come back. Take this burner, I'll keep in contact an' try ta get ta the woods. Ya'll be safe there until we can get back around for yah both. We won' leave yah on yah lonesome too long."

"Yeah, we'll see," The girl said, chin tucked up into the air, but she must want to at least hope they'd make good on their promise because she took the offered cell phone.

"X-Men don' leave no one behind," She assured her, and the girl tilted her head at it.

"Ah. I thought you might the woman they said survived their end."

"The X-Men are still around, Sugah, yah can trust in that. As sure as Ah stand here, as sure as Ah'm an X-man, the X-Men never met an end, just got a little different," She said both fiercely, and proudly. Rogue gently touched the patch on the side of her jacket. She remembered Logan's psyche coming to the front of her mind as he grabbed ahold of her bare forearm and transferred his powers. "An' Ah'll show yah what the X-Men all about when Ah meet up with yah in the woods." She told the girl with a sudden quirk of her lips.

"Maybe," The girl said with a slight smirk before she turned and went off towards the beastly looking mutant. Rogue watched her go and turned to the helicopter herself to do one final count on the prisoners and the group they'd brought with them. They needed to get in the air now, or they'd run into trouble. Rogue had had quite enough trouble for one day, she was ready for a smooth ride from here.

The dark.

when the choppers landed victor grinned, "now that's what I'm talking about f**k a van." he returned to the van for a bit reaching into the drivers seat floorboards to pick up the flask he had dropped. He then went up To the chopper, taking the water rouge offered and tossing it to the girl who wanted to stay behind with the monster. "ya got balls girl, don't you dare loose this."

he said as he handed her a pistol. Sure it wasn't much but was better than nothing, though he figured if that hulking freak was around this girl wouldn't need it.

when his internal struggle had ended, the beast came out on top, and gabe was buried back in his own subconscious. He leapt off of the rooftops and landed hard on the pavement, cracking the asphalt beneath his feet. He then began to head for a nearby restaurant. Some part of him had told him that food was found here and he wouldn't need to hunt if he made it inside. He found the doors offered no resistance a fact that actually surprised him, he had spent a long while behind a door he couldn't open. But as the scents of meats made it to him his surprise ended. He got himself into the kitchen and proceeded to gorge himself on the frozen meat.

(the restaurant is in the direction of the forest, so it should be easily found on the way there.)

"I take it you're Rogue," the pilot said. "Everything will be explained in the chopper. Here." He handed her a headset.
He then walked past her and climbed into the van, settling beside Kam. He pulled out a syringe and alcohol pad, and stuck him after sanitizing his exposed skin.

KAM
He awoke slowly, but still couldn't move. He heard Josh's voice, then felt himself being lifted over a shoulder, then deposited into a seat of some kind before having a headset slipped over his head and a voice he thought he'd never hear again coming through. His Aunt's.
"I know you can hear me, nephew. You're safe now, as as your friends.
"J...Ja...Ja..."
"Quiet now, hon. James is fine. He's here."
Kam let out a relieved sigh.

The pilot spoke to Rogue through her headset. "We can hook up the big guy under the chopper if you want. This thing's made to pick up several tons of cargo."

Jo ducked as the rain of bullets began to engulf the van. She turned to pull her sister in the vehicle with her, but Cora wasn't there. "Damnit." She cursed under her breath. It wasn't often Jo had to worry about her sister, but now was one of those times. They were out gunned, out manned and had the help of people they didn't know, not the ideal situation. Jo started to exit the car when she heard desperation in her sister's voice and it wasn't long before she saw why. Oye, the too smart for his own good fur ball.

The rest happened in a whirl of chaos. Blaze's wall of fire, Oye's bullet graze and the death of another mutant. There wasn't enough time to speak everything that came to mind, everything was one right after the other.

"Ouch, she's not walkin' that off." Was all she had time for before the van sped off with a full house of mutants. Jo didn't pay anyone else much attention, most were injured, some more than others. The facility blew in a glorious ball of fire, but Jo wasn't pleased. She slammed a fist into the seat in front of her.

"Who did that?!" The agitation in her voice was beyond evident. In all this mayhem, she didn't expect an answer, but seriously. Who had the audacity to hog the revenge all to themselves, Blaze and Sparks had a few Monolith agents to repay favors to. Now, they'll never have that chance.

The rest of the ride was mostly done in silence, the others probably reeling from the young girl's death. Meh, whatevs. Jo had everything she needed in this van, her family. The van came to a halt and Jo jumped out to stretch her legs. A woman approached Oye with water, and Jo accepted on his behalf. Cora would never let anyone close to her dog she didn't know, and quite frankly, neither would Oye. The last thing she needed was battle between the three of them and their rescuers because someone got burned or bitten.

"We got it, slick. Thanks." FarFlungDreamer FarFlungDreamer

There was a helicopter, she tensed for a battle, then relaxed when she realized the 'copter was for them. Too many ups and downs today, Jo was looking forward to a hot shower, a stiff drink and a nap. Jo was hesitant to get in the air, but she wasn't going back into Monolith hands alive and she sure as hell wasn't going to let them take her sister, not again, never again.

"I'm sorry, B." Maori Maori

The van jolted to a halt and Blaze felt about 90 pounds of pressure suddenly land on her diaphragm. Her breath went out in a rush and when she sucked in air what came with it smelled like dog food and pure death. She had a confusing moment before a warm wetness spread across the entire left side of her face. She groaned and wiped at her cheek, her eye opening to meet Oy's honey colored ones.

Everything was happening so fast, plans were being done and undone, the van in front of them had been torn open, the woman who came for them had flown out and started spewing orders. A boy, she called him a boy because he seemed young, crawled over them. Oy sounded a small yelp of protest as the boy's boot hit his wound and the big head swung around, nipping at his boot heels. "Stop it." Blaze grumbled at her dog and started to sit up and noticed her sister gone and the van door open. "Go find Titi Sparks." She said as she shoved him out of the van and into the semi fresh air.

She followed Oy to her sister who had the same look of bewilderment on her face that Blaze herself felt. Sparks was taking something from another prisoner and she opened her mouth to say something as she approached but she was drowned out by the sound of a descending helicopter. She instinctively grabbed her sister's forearm as the helicopter descended and she tensed waiting for another assault. She let out her held breath in relief as the man identified himself as friend not foe.

Her sister said something that made her jump. "Sorry for what?" She asked, surprised. Nothing could have been done to avoid the situation they found themselves in. Monolith was just too big to be dealt with or to hide from. At least, not without a lot of resources.

(I know this is closed but the site went down before I could wrap up Jaimie and I had it started already. It doesn't really belong in the New Home thread)

She caught the water bottle, fumbling with it for a second. She smirked at the uncomfortable looking guy as he spoke to her. Jaimie wasn't judging or nothing, her friend in the group had been made of rocks, but still... the red eyes on the black gave anyone the chills. But he handed her a gun next and she glanced up at him surprised. She nodded as he told her not to lose it. "You got it," She said, a smirk pulling at her face again. These guys... they might not be so bad. Maybe she would actually see them in the woods after all.

She watched the helicopter get off the ground before she turned and slipped deeper into the streets in the direction he'd run off in.

Jaimie didn't know if she should hope that the X-man had meant what she said. That they'd come back. Part of her argued she should have just jumped on that helicopter with everyone else. But, sure, they'd freed them all, but she didn't exactly trust it was the safest option to continue to go. Maybe it would have been, but if someone didn't go after Gabe now... then he'd get lost for good to the rest of the group. He wouldn't know to meet up somewhere, and she wasn't sure he could think that straight forward. Besides, he had no chance out here. If you couldn't hide your mutation or hide in a building, you couldn't make it without being picked up. He was big, too, there was no way they wouldn't find him within the day. The idea that he would wind up shoved in another cage just like that prompted her from it.

The hard time she had following him made her rethink it for a moment. The crater had been a great place to start but he didn't hit into much or make another big impact on his race away.

But no, she chided herself. She grew up in these streets. If anyone could find a giant cement looking mutant it was her. She knew where to look, she knew when things looked out of place, and she knew who to ask and not ask. Still, it was a risk... even if she found him, getting to the woods with him would be infinitely harder with such a huge chance of being detected. It wouldn't take long for the Monolith set up around the rest of the city to get the idea and swarm the city on the lookout for those who escaped.

She might have missed her only free ride. Jaimie sighed, quitting her inner argument for now. She crept down another back alley where some bricks looked displaced up higher than anyone could reach but him. Okay, she was on the right track. Another half an a hour she saw a nearby butchers shop's doors blown in. She looked around cautiously and reached for her knife before rethinking it and pulling out that guys pistol instead. Better than a knife anyways. The doors were thrown off their hinges and tables and chairs were knocked away. Alright, the place was trashed... it didn't mean he was here, but there weren't any signs of people here so she decided it must be. It was the best she had so she was going to check it out thoroughly.

She made it easy enough towards the back and she could hear clangs coming from back there. She must have found him. The only problem was there was a table or something blocking the way into the kitchen on the inside. The door itself was one of the swinging sort and was half bend backwards from the metal tables impact. Jaimie tucked the pistol back into the back of her pants and got a foot onto the side of a upturned table, trying to climb up over it. She got to the top, but there was no way she could squeeze through the opening, she tried to slip through but it was no dice.

"Great," She huffed to herself jumping back down to the floor. She didn't think her knife was going to help either. But she didn't think there was a back exit and he might move on if she wasted time with it. They had to go now, before dark lifted any more. If they didn't reach the forest by daylight they were both screwed. The Monolith would get the two mutants for sure.

Jaimie glance down to her partially gloved hands at that thought. Right... powers. Wouldn't that be handy. Except she spent more time trying to get them to stop than actually using them. They just attracted attention, or destroyed the limited amount of stuff she had. There was a reason she got the nickname crusher, that's all her powers were good for, crushing anything she didn't want destroyed. Hell, she didn't even know how to make them work! But she remembered how everyone during the escape jumped in, using their powers to fend off the guards, to help them all escape. If she had no choice in being a mutant, if she was going to be locked up even when she didn't want to be one... she might as well try and use the downfall to her advantage. It was clear to her, after being locked up, that she couldn't avoid being a mutant anymore.

Taking a deep breath, her face screwing up determinedly she threw her arms out in front of her, trying to think of the door crushing. Comically, nothing happened. She growled under her breath and threw her shoulders into it, waiting for the crunching sound that accompanied it usually... and nada. Jaimie gave up and back tracked from the entrance to cross the dining room and see if there wasn't a second internal entrance to the kitchen.

After losing ten minutes searching she found herself back at that same damn door. Frustrated she thought back to the last time she'd used her powers. It hadn't been when the Monolith had chased her and her group, not until they'd captured her. Then their van started to fold in on itself, until they slapped those cuffs on her. Before that she'd been fighting with Hayley over another stray cat she'd picked up. She'd gotten frustrated when Haley tore the cat out of her hand. She'd thrown her arm out making a point and a nearby trash can started to dent in.

Jaimie thought over the situations and clenched her fist in front of her, trying to summon up the same feelings again. To her giddiness she heard the soda machine next to her start to buckle. She could feel the odd vibration in her hands and she glanced at the door holding onto the feelings. She threw both arms out towards it, imagining she could simply transfer those vibrations and watched victoriously as the top of the doors started to creak and the top of it started to smush down into the rest of the door.

Of course, as usual with her shitty powers, it didn't last and they quit out just as soon as they started to seem useful. Jaimie gave the gap up top a look and decided she'd be able to manage it. Climbing back up on it, she was able to shimmy through it, although she cursed when the jagged metal tore through the bottom of her pant legs. Jaimie made her way quickly through the rest of the area, following his trail and worrying all the noises she'd made would have sacred him off or if he'd never been here.

But luckily enough, when she found the refrigerator in the back of the kitchen she also found Gabe. He had made his way through was devouring everything. Plastic, the bins they were in scattered or chomped on. She uttered his name quietly but he didn't seem to take note of her, simple piling more. She thought to approach him but looking at how hungry he was (did they even feed someone that big enough in that place?) she knew better. Never get between a stray and the food they found, not unless it was your food and then you had no choice. It got nasty, Jaimie knew, because it was as scarce a commodity for animals as it was for her group, on the streets.

So she took a seat on one of the overturned bins and just waited for him to finish. It didn't take more than twenty minutes, although she got antsier and antsier waiting. She found him easily enough, it wouldn't take the Monolith long either if they'd started looking already. When he finished his head jerked around in search for more and she stood up quickly from her feet to catch his attention.

"Hey, Gabe!" She called, and his head jerked towards her. He approached aggressively, his odd eyes thinned instead of big like she'd seen before. She sunk down low into a crouch, so she didn't look like she was being a threat. "Hey it's Jaimie," She called again, when he seemed to stop short of her. She'd blocked the way out of the fridge and he seemed to be looking at that. "Gabe," She called again, reaching her hand out slowly for him to... sniff at? She didn't know if he did that or not, but he seemed to be acting like a dog either way.

He didn't sniff but repeating his name and saying it was okay again seemed to get it. He made a few animal noises, before the red eyes got rounder again and he started cooing once more. Then he moved his lips around before he seemed to spit out her name, but in her voice again. Weird... but she nodded.

"That's right, good boy, it's okay," Jaimie said softly. He moved his arm and bumped it against her hand and she smiled and patted his arm once or twice. It was rough under her palm, but she ignored it. "We have to go," She explained slowly, pointing behind her. "Go," She motioned again and then stood when he did nothing but make a weird clacking noise. Hoping he understood she walked slowly out in front of him. She was thankful that when they reached the outside he didn't bolt again. He'd either follow her or not, but they'd wasted time in there and while this had luckily been on the way to the forest... they still had to manage to get there. Even in the dark, he was really easy to see, and even easier to recognize as a mutant. With the red eyes and the spikes he was scary enough for someone to make a call.

But Jaimie knew the streets of Detroit and she took them along the backroads, with few houses, and fewer street lights. She told him he was doing good and to keep coming with her from time to time. When he got distracted by something and stopped saying his name a couple of times seemed to reorient him and he followed again. By the time they got closer to the forest she knew she was in her part of town and they wouldn't get called on. She thought, for half a second, of not going to the forest, or at least taking Gabe there and leaving when she knew he got picked up. She could go back on the streets, maybe find her old crew... but part of her didn't think she would. Part of her knew something else was waiting ahead of her... with that X-Men.

Besides, she decided as they finally entered the forest... she had a pistol to return, right? Yeah, and maybe it was time to stop hiding from herself. Look at Gabe, he really couldn't, but she could, if she wanted. She could sneak back into those streets and hide better. But... Jaimie looked over Gabe and then back at the forest.

She was a mutant... and maybe here, with this obviously organized group... it could just maybe not have to be a bad thing. This was what she was, so maybe it was time to stop hiding from herself.

"Come on Gabe,"
She called determinedly, craning her neck to look up at him. "Let's go see what these X-Men have in store." He made a grunting noise, like a horse and jumped forward into the forest with her as dawn started to peek up over the skyline. The DoomyFish The DoomyFish
