Whether it was coincidental, fate, destiny, or happenstance, Clara mentally rolled her eyes as she sighed, blowing her hair out of her face. Hiding in plain sight didn't work anymore, not when others were growing seemingly aware of her presence looming against the big oak tree. Unfolding her arms, her eyes scanned the park as the twinkling lights danced across her irises as she tried to ignore the pointed fingers and soft chatter that involved her. Regardless, despite being the spectacle of some of the local's attention, Clara decided to not move, avoiding suspicion as she turned her attention to the oak tree. Furrowing her brows, Clara couldn't help but place a gentle palm against the tree, taking in its age. It was all-around beautiful, mesmerizing, but also ominous, a reminder that witches were once hung there, or rather suspected witches' life was taken far too soon. The oak tree was only a haunting reminder of Salem's dark past.
[br][/br][br][/br]
However, Salem wasn't home to her anymore and was a ghost of its past self. Clara couldn't remember a time where she relaxed without feeling as if she had to look over her shoulders. But, a voice in the air caused her to freeze in her spot. The small whisper grew louder in her ear, almost taunting in the wind as it caused the hair on her arms to stand up while she felt herself shudder involuntarily. Her eyes widened as she frantically looked around, trying to find the source of the murmur. With uneven breaths, her heart felt as if it would leap out from her chest any moment. The locals before her were now just various silhouettes as her vision caused their shapes to form into blobs of orbs. They all faded into the background one-by-one in an almost ghost-like manner.
[br][/br][br][/br]
Lost in thought and not paying attention to her surroundings, Clara was ill-prepared for what came against her next. Without any indication or realization, the Shifter felt the wind get knocked out of her as she yelped loudly. Clara's left leg lifted first before the force of the bump caused her other leg to slip from underneath her as she went "flying". Her eyes widen and before she could react, she braced for impact against the grass and with a loud thud, she fell ungracefully. With a loud hiss, Clara bit her tongue, hard. When the adrenaline rush wore down, the shock of the collision between her and the ground shot through her small frame. That's going to bruise!
[br][/br][br][/br]
Shaking her head slightly to let her vision adjust to the darkness, out of instinct, Clara's survival skills came into play as her eyes directly searched for the perpetrator that harmed her. Once she noticed the shoes in front of her, her eyes slowly trailed up towards the figure that towered over her. While Clara managed to somehow twist her body to where the impact was directly on her bum and back rather than face-forward, Clara felt the ache rising and falling like statics.
[br][/br][br][/br]
Regardless, Clara hissed, feeling her temper flaring. While she stared at the man, she never uttered a word, only feeling the anger rise in the pit of her stomach. As the anger boiled inside of her, Clara's fingers slowly scraped against the grass, though unconsciously, like a glitch, her fingernails were slightly switching, unnoticeably, between nails and claws as she balled her hand into a fist, taking some grass and dirt with her. However, her eyes, on the other hand, were harder to conceal as her dark, brown irises narrowed slightly, allowing a slight hint of yellow to emerge in them.
[br][/br][br][/br]
The impolite mannerism and the lopsided, goofy stare-down at her state from the man who knocked over her only grated her nerves even more. He wasn't going to help her up? Just stare? Clara felt vulnerable in this form and it was a nuisance. If she was a cat, she couldโve landed perfectly but she could feel was frazzled and annoyed. A small rumbling, incoherent noise came from her throat as she was ready to pounce on the male, ready to claw his eyes out for not looking to where he was going. But, she couldn't risk exposing her true "nature" and the supernatural to this unbelievable nincompoop.
[br][/br][br][/br]
"Well, this is awkward, so... Some weather we're having, amirite?"
[br][/br][br][/br]
At the first words, the male uttered, Clara couldn't believe what he said. With a raised brow, Clara scoffed, giving him an are you serious? look as her lips parted, shaking her head at the audacity of this local. Biting down a snappy response, Clara could only observe the male's features, committing his face to memory to give him his dues once she was able to slip away from Central Park and return to her more comfortable state: a cat. But, with her senses getting the better of her, Clara jumped, scooting over slightly when she realized another person came towards them.
[br][/br][br][/br]
โHere.โ
[br][/br][br][/br]
Blinking back a surprise, Clara looked towards at the hand in front of her in confusion, scanning it as she was not sure what to do. Canโt you human for one night? Knitting her brows together, Clara was at a lost for words as she felt small once more. It was an odd feeling, being given help when she, for over the centuries, have tried to remain obtuse and independent. But, here she was, as a vulnerable human, getting knocked off her feet and receiving help from strangers she could only watch from afar. Scowling, Clara turned her attention back to the male that knocked her over.
[br][/br][br][/br]
"Watch where you're going." She started, the palm in front of her still in her view as she was still feeling peeved from the aftermath of the incident. Regardless, she continued to stare-down at the male, wanting to make him feel as uncomfortable as possible.
[br][/br][br][/br]
"Weather?" Her voice raised an octave higher.
[br][/br][br][/br]
Taking the dirt that she held in her palm, Clara threw it at the male, unexpectedly, releasing the pent up frustration before shaking her head. "Is that really what you want to ask, mister? Couldn't have asked something more interesting such as 'are you okay'?" She growled lowly, taunting him.
[br][/br][br][/br]
Once she was finished addressing him, clicking her tongue while she was at it, her attention went back towards the hand that was in front of her. Attempting to ignore the hand as she slowly stood up, not wanting to take the other male's hand, Clara was adamant about not being a damsel in distress. The male coming to "rescue" or "check" on her made her even more upset. However, as her luck would have it, she was having trouble getting up, feeling something ache in her side. Biting her lips, Clara growled once more realizing she'd have to "suck" it up and take his hand.
[br][/br][br][/br]
Extending her hand, Clara slowly reached for the assistant's palm, only gripping the side before hesitantly taking it as she got off the ground, balancing herself. "Thank you,โ Clara gazed upon the male, taking in his eye color in hers, "This ca-, girl," She quickly caught herself before continuing, "would have been able to help herself . . . " Clara tried to finish, only to trail off, not wanting to explain anything.
[br][/br][br][/br]
However, as Clara straightened herself, her bum still ached as she took in the pain. But, without wasting anymore time, Clara quickly removed her hand as if she'd been burned. But, the moment she had, Clara felt coldness seeping through her skin, missing the warmth from the palm for that brief moment. Regardless, Clara looked away from the assistant quickly and folded her arms, feeling the breeze in the air encompass her frame. "Five. . . five feet away. Space." She took a breath before eyeing her "helper". "You're too close."
[br][/br][br][/br]
Clara stepped to the side and back to give herself space between both males, feeling entrapped. She hated feeling as if she was enclosed in a small space especially since she felt stifled and immobile, not liking that she felt as if the two had one over her - one owed her a debt and another she owed a debt to. Clara hated being indebted to someone. But, as she took a moment to catch her breath, Clara couldn't help but noticed that the one who helped her was him. A chord struck a nerve in her. Would he recognize her? Did he still remember what happened at the Sanderson Cottage? However, Clara could only internally laugh at herself. She's human. Not a cat. There was no way he would recognize her. . . right? Suspicious.
[br][/br][br][/br]
Clearing her throat, Clara stood on one of the tree roots, getting a better view of the two males as she attempted to find a spot where she could seem taller. She could have walked between both of the males and went on her merry way, but, she didn't want to risk them following her or had a choice to. Instead, she decided to play along. "What are you two doing out here? Not heading to the Haunted Houses for a scare?" She questioned, genuinely curious why these two decided to stay behind.
