Realistic or Modern It Lives (A Survival Horror/Sci-Fi RP)

September 1977 - Pierre, Nevada

Tucked away in the mountains of the Northern Nevada desert sits a small town by the name of Pierre. Its inhabitants live clustered around a single street lined with bars, a casino, and a grocery store. More than two hundred miles east of Reno, Pierre is one of the most remote towns in the entire continental United States. Its residents are a friendly bunch, especially close-knit as a result of their isolation from the rest of the world. The local Military base keeps the gene pool fresh with occasional newcomers, excited to join the ranks of military scientists from around the country at the top secret research facilities right outside Pierre. Those who aren't employed by the military have plenty of industry trades to choose from, from the number of mines that surround the town to a very active community of seismologists and geologists that occupy the town year-round.

Though, even the friendliest of Pierre's residents can find themselves worn down by the end of Pierre's long, cold, biting winters. When the snowstorms finally let up, even the desert sun proves no match against the frigid temperatures and sheets of ice that cover everything in sight. Frostbite can be a killer, as many of the town's residents will tell you. It gets dark at four in the afternoon, and the nightly gales don't let up.

This winter, however, may prove to be the harshest of them all. Starting in August bizarre rumors of a humanlike figure stalking the town at night have begun to spread around town like a virus. Missing pets, disemboweled wildlife, deep footprints trenched into the snow, and more frequent storms have peppered the town like bad omens. When the weather reports and radio alerts began warning of an especially bad blizzard - one that could potentially dump up to eight feet of snow on the region, most of the residents knew it was time to get out of dodge. What few people decided to see were left with the task of guarding their beloved hometown and weathering the storm as best they could. What they didn't realize was the storm would prove to be the least of their worries. The stalking specter was more than just a rumor, and those who stayed behind would be forced to face off an unimaginable horror from beyond, one that had grown a taste for human flesh.

Who will survive? And what will be left of them?

So my idea for this roleplay is somewhat a mix of The Thing, 30 Days of Night, and Alien. You will be playing a resident of the town whose goal is to brave the storm and come out alive while being hunted down by a vicious creature with a taste for human flesh. It'll be a high-stakes horror/mystery/action roleplay where anybody can die. There'll be a few specific roles I'll be looking for people to fill (The Sheriff, The Newcomer, The Hunter, The Vagabond, etc) but there'll also be room for people who want to have their own characters too.

Rules:

I'll go more in-depth in terms of rules and gameplay once I get enough players signed on, but essentially what I'm looking for are literate to advanced writing style roleplayers. I'm not going to be a stickler for historical accuracy or people who know a lot about the 1970s, I just really love the time period as a setting.
