"Huh? What's this... An Adventurer's Guild Request..?"
Someone Of Insignificance

[Of Utmost Urgency]

Greetings to whom may be reading this, This is a request made by the Haeddre Village. located in the Aubade forests of Sadek County at the borders of Ryke and the Eastern Empire.
This is sent on behalf of the Haeddre village, as I would like to request the assistance of any adventurers that may be interested.
I have foreseen that the village will be attacked by the destructive bugs which have been plaguing the borders between the Eastern Empires and The Fae See.
Through this attack, these wretched vermin will invade the Sadek Country, and then will invade the Country of Ryke.
For we do not wish for our village to perish, neither the county it resides in as well as the entirety of Ryke, we send you this with much urgency.
Those who aid us will be rewarded brilliantly.

Guardian of the Haeddre Village,
The Seer,
Ereike.

Saturday

A party of six had gathered in front of the Temple of the Haeddre Village. Despite the suspicious stares of the citizens of the village, they all knew that these 'Adventurers' were either sent or here on their own accord in order to help the village. Some of the folk were sent by the Adventurers' Guild as their mission of initiation. Others were here... for other reasons. Despite being surrounded by a thick forest, the village was fresh and bathed in the light of the sun. Heaths were the village's signature flowers, growing beautifully all around and filling the air with a pleasant honey-like scent. The constant buzzing of bees, the occasional fluttering of butterflies, and the humming of birds made it feel like the Village was doused in a state of spring.

The village consisted of many seemingly older men and women and the occasional children. The inhabitants mostly consisted of farmers, bakers and the occasional woodcutters. However, most of them didn't seem equipped to fight or hold off the destructive bugs which will do anything to consume and feast upon their next meal. It was a wonder how this village fended off anything, to begin with. Two large ponds circled around the temple by which the party stood.

They could hear the loud pitter-patters, huffs and puffs of someone who had just come near.

"AH! I'm SO sorry for being late!!"

Solidi.png
A Young girl made herself known. She wore a bib-collared blue dress and a white apron. Bright braided red hair contrasted with the usual blondes and browns of the other villagers, making her stand out much more clearly. "Hello, Travelers!... Ah! No, that's too friendly... Sorry!! I must apologise!" She shook her head, apologising hurriedly before clearing her throat.

"Greetings travellers!... Or Adventurers... I am Solidi, Apprentice of The Seer and Guardian of this Village, Lady Ereike." The young girl proclaimed, "As you may have read from Lady Ereike's request, Yes Yes? (which I do hope you saw before coming here), she has foreseen that these horrible creatures will attack and bring ruins to the Village!" She inquired, before moving on, "So that must mean you, folks... I mean! Generous Adventurers, are here to kindly aid us in preventing Lady Ereike's prophecy, Yes Yes?" Solidi added on, before moving a bit closer to the group.

"Ah... You have arrived quite late, however, we only have an hour to prepare! We must quickly meet with Lady Ereike, she will further advise us on what we must begin doing! Yes Yes!" The girl stated, her tone a bit hurried, "Ah! Before that, feel free to ask me any questions and I will be sure to answer them! I may not know the future like Lady Ereike, but as her esteemed apprentice, I have studied the history and current happenings of the village quite profusely! Yes Yes!" The young girl informed, seeming slightly excited to answer any questions that may be asked.

Meanwhile in the far western parts of the village, by a lake in the forest, stands a figure alone. From this distance, they would be able to see and slightly hear what was happening. However, they would hear something other than that as well. The skittering and shaking of something crawling around near two trees leading into some sort of clearing.

"Skrrr. SKrrr. RrrrRKrrr..."

Something was shrieking. The little steps of creatures that were big, scurried like insects.

"Scurree. SkkkrRk. Skrk. skrkk."

Another something shrieked back. What were they? It was hard to tell without getting closer. A little butterfly flew off from the nearby Heaths, fluttering closer to the figure, its gentle white wings elegantly flapping along. Fluttering closer and closer. The flowers were swaying with the gentle breeze along with the rustling of the tree. The water was glistering as light from the sun gently brushed on its surface. Despite this peaceful, idyllic scenery... There was this slight trembling where the figure stood.

Jareth Fletcher
| Human | Eyeglass Adept | Ryken Adventurer F | Sandman | Comrade | Sun-Kissed |
Sandman - character's body is made of sand. Is likely to leave sand behind wherever they go. Has an easier time staying together in moist environments and less windy days. Even when solid, can give off the impression they may blow away at any moment.
Comrade - character has proved themselves to be a good ally and approachable. Character will have easier time convincing others to team up with their cause or to allow him to join theirs. More likely to join a cause that isn't worth joining too, however.
Sun-Kissed - character has a new found fascination with the Leilosis faith. Will suffer in social situations with those that despise the followers of the Sun God. Will excel in social situations with Sun God followers.

An intermission. That's what Michael had called the mission Jareth received from the Adventurer's Guild to assist Haeddre Village. Having only just begun to learn from the Leilosis monks of their ways and beliefs, Jareth was naturally hesitant to leave and ultimately frustrated when Michael essentially forced him to take the job and temporarily part ways with Michael's company at the border of Ryke and the East Empire.

Now standing in front of the village's temple along with others who had also been called for the job, Jareth's sour expression would be a mystery to all. Being here--albeit begrudgingly--on business, however, the earth mage would not shirk his duty to assist these people. If anything his efforts would be done all the more vigorously in hopes of completing the mission as soon as possible in order to return to Michael and the monks.

Oddly enough, he did find one familiar face in the assembly--and it wasn't a face at al: the mechanical contraption that had assisted all that time ago with the rabbit hunt now idled in their midst. At the time Jareth lacked the awareness of the surrounding countries to see it, but now, being so close to the Eastern Empire, he questioned if this sentient metal box originated from that country which prided itself on its machinations. Were Jareth in a better mood, he may have felt up to asking Pierre to clarify these questions of origin.

Unfortunately, that would not be the case as their contact in the village had appeared and was now directing them to the quest giver. Jareth strolled alongside Pierre quietly focusing more on keeping up with the fiery haired maiden now leading them. His silence would only be broken when she offered to answer questions.

"Are there passages beneath the city? Caves? Caverns? Reservoirs? Mineshafts?"

"Are there places on the surface where the city has been attacked from previously?"

"Have any bugs been spotted near the village? If so, how many and in what direction?"

There were some people who had gathered that Shael knew very well were already in the position that she wanted to be in, with a Ryken Adventurer title. She looked toward Nox, and Connor who had been of interest to her, since they were in the same boat she was being sent over by the guild as an initiation test of sorts. She knew that she'd have to provide ranged support for the time being for the rest of the group and couldn't help but wonder how everyone would work together here.

One person of interest she saw which was peculiar was Pierre however. For some reason the construct gave off this sense of familiarity in design like it was on the tip of her tongue from her past life but it was just out of reach what he was exactly. She thought she knew that they were not typical to the world she lived in now in her current life but there he was a reminder that whatever god she had met in that vision had a funny way of arranging things. She hoped that Pierre did not come from from the empire, it really was a uncouth place. Part of the reason these insects were here to begin with was them to blame and the conflict that had started, she knew that much from her intuition. As to her understanding from what she heard these were created rather than natural occurring.

The less than warm initial welcome which they received was fine by Shael, she was there to protect the local populous , not befriend them. Much like Jareth her face didn't exactly scream at anyone to come over and start talking to her. She also wouldn't have been one to initiate much small talk even if the opportunity presented itself. But she would talk if engaged. However instead of looking annoyed she just looked cold and serious. What was clear to her based on how they were equipped however was that they truly did need help, so she would certainly provide that.

What she hadn't been expecting was for the red head to show up the way she did and apologize. Her chipper ways didn't exactly give Shael the confidence that they were in the hands of someone battle hardened and acceptable for the title of something like guardian no less, but Shael would try her best to keep an open mind regarding Solidi for the time being even if every fiber of her being was wondering why someone who looked so unthreatening and benign, the tone seeming rather inappropriate for the life or death situation people would be facing if things didn't go according to plan. Regardless when she introduced herself Shael did nod to show that she understood.

Shael slowly nodded her head at generous adventurers there to help even if she wasn't one yet. That was true the guild had sent more.

She looked over to Jareth as he asked the questions, this guy seemed to have a good idea of what they should be doing and asking given the circumstances. After waiting for him to finish up asking, Shael figured that she should not waste an opportunity like this, the fact they only had an hour to prepare meant the time to ask and act was now.

Presumably after Soldi answered Jareth's questions , Shael asked away.

"Is there any additional information on what the bugs have been observed being capable of, attack patterns, abilities or otherwise?, If so how great does the variation seem to be?"

"Do they work together intelligently or they more like a horde?"

"Have there been any weak spots learned about from prior encounters that we should be aware of?"

Connor Erland
charc.jpg

This is it, it’s finally happening. Although he very much adored his brother and listening to tales of adventures, Connor always dreamt of eventually being able to truly go through that kind of experience himself. To make his own stories, meet all kinds of people, help out those in need. Why, this can also help him get great inspiration for his music, use it as a medium for which he could express and share these experiences. It was at this prospect that Connor made plans to join the Adventurer’s Guild, and in relatively no time at all he was already out on a mission to serve as his initiation.

Connor was not alone in this endeavor, as seen by the group that he now finds himself in. Of course there was the small group that he was put in; people that were also looking to joining the Adventurer’s Guild. While he would have loved to get acquainted with the others in the meantime, right now this was an urgent request. Most of his travel was hurried, and yet apparently they were still quite late as said by the lively red haired girl that came to receive the party in front of the village’s temple.

Feeling a mixture of excitement and anxiety, he adjusted the strap on his left shoulder allowing him to carry his violin case as he took some time to take a deep breath. He looks just like any other travelling musician that is visibly unarmed. The case that he was carrying around however was for his custom made instrument, as inside was both a violin and his katana. Working with his brother to figure out the details of how this can be made to work, he was at a starting point at making a fighting style with this kind of weapon. Of course, this was still quite experimental and was not yet put into practice on real situations, but the time that they had to prepare was shorter than Connor had expected. There was no choice now but to improvise and give it his best for the people and the Guild.

That said, during these few moments the others in their party were already asking away at Solidi’s prompt. Connor took the chance to ask his own questions that popped up in his mind while taking a look at the village they are in.

“Adding on to what they said, has something similar ever happened before in this village? And are there any form of defenses that has been set up as well for these kinds of situations?”

At a glance, it really seems like this village isn't really prepared for perilous circumstances like the one they would most likely find themselves in soon. However, it wouldn't hurt to still see what they can get or do to minimize the risks.

Ruin, the Flesh that Hates

Ruin stood alone in the forest, his horrific and warped visage looking over the landscape. His twisted form had loped from his lair in a thicket of trees deep in the woods in search of prey and had found himself in what some would consider an idyllic spot. To Ruin it was just a hunting ground however. A quiet rumble emanated from his throat as he examined the forest surrounding him. He wondered if new prey had found its way to him and if he was strong enough to kill it. He knew at the moment that he was weak and needed to get stronger. The only way to do that for him was to pick off the other prey in this area. He was at the edge of the boundary of his territory. Just across the water of the lake was the hovels that the humans called homes. Disgusting creatures such that they were Ruin knew that they would hunt him if he came too close to the village. So he had stayed away. He had waited to see if any would stray into the forest but thus far none had been so foolish. He had been restricted to a diet of squirrel, rabbit, and deer meat, and the idea of something different made him hungry.

It was the urge to eat and grow stronger that drove him to follow the sounds. He moved as quietly as his form would allow, stealthing towards the source of the noise. As he approached Ruin would attempt to stay in cover of bushes or trees to avoid being spotted by his prey. He had learned that a surprise attack often helped him to overpower his previous targets quickly. It was quite a sight to behold, the abomination of flesh, muscle, and bone creeping through the woods towards what it thought would be food.

1678278153564.pngNox Bloodraven

Nox hadn't been in this world all that long, just over a month if her memory served her right. She had made it out of the ruined village she had been woken up in and was slowly but surely adapting to the world around her. Namely her new physique and diet. Joining the adventurers guild was her current goal and that was only due to the fact it offered her a chance to make a living and from what little manga she had read in her past life that seemed to be a common trope. So having made it to a guild and registered her name and stats the woman was tasked with defending this border town as an initiation of sorts.

Luckily though it seemed two others were in the same boat. A bard and some sort of elf from the look of things. And even better still there were others who seemed to have been roped into the ordeal. Most notably... a tank. Nox's eyes were very often drawn to Pierre as the woman, Solidi, spoke. How strange, a tank in a world like this? So far Nox had only seen fantasy medieval aspects in this world and even they were hard for her to fully get her head around. Now there was a tank from her own world just... rolling around? This was all starting to become too much again. Perhaps staying in the forest for a few more months would have been a better option in hindsight. Alas here she was and it was too late to back out now.

With children, the elderly and everything in between still running around in the background Nox had but one real question for the apprentice. One everyone else seemed to be avoiding or disinterested in. Perhaps it was a cultural norm but to Nox, it stood out like a sore thumb. "The children and elderly. Why are they still here?". Looking back toward the village Nox's eyes scanned the people and their lack of combat skill was evident even to her untrained eyes. If there really was to be a large-scale attack, wouldn't all these people perish? Actually, how had they not perished already?

Returning her focus to Solidi, Nox asked one final question "And regarding these bugs and their weaknesses. Are there any specific resistances we should be aware of and avoid?"

Arkh Jager

Arkh decided to wander off the Nan Fortress for a bit. Seeking improvement not just to develop his skills as an assassin, but also as a swordsman, he looked for a task to test himself. A urgent notice posted on one of the guild's boards. He was quick to make his way towards Haeddre. Once there, he inspected the surrounding area of the village looking for signs of danger, while using his stealth skills to remain off the sight of prying eyes. He found nothing out of place, which made sense considering that the village was not overrun by this so called plague.

He eventually found himself with a group that was most likely the Adventurer's Guild party. He stopped trying to blend in with the background. To the ones not observant enough it would be like he appeared from thin air. Even more so due to the fact he didn't ask questions and simply listened to the answers. While not taking mental notes, Arkh would observe his companions. Most particularly, what his mind described as a 'metal eldritch abomination'.

Arkh considered taking the mutant tank as an enemy, but both it and the rest of the group seemed at ease being near it. Well, at least most of them. He noticed a woman of the group constantly glancing at the strange construct. Likely baffled by such a thing existing. Personally, Arkh was pretty accustomed to expect the unexpected on this world. After all, neither of them were like the other in most cases.

There were many things that Pierre Rothel has seen. In a general sense; from portions of the daily lives of townsfolk back in his world, to the cruelty of war and the psychological torment that came with it. Times shared with friends and family held dear in his head.. Or in present terms, Turret. There were many things that Pierre has seen here as well. From life of an era not too far behind his time, to the wonders of what truly made it unique, with magic, supernatural beings, or even technological marvels in architecture and whatnot. He made friends here too.. Good ones at that.

First, there was Aria, a fiery pure soul and a wonderful fighter.. One who also knew what horrors war brought.. A relation of dark topics shared, and comfort found in it. Then there was Regula, a woman far beyond diligent and hardworking, who was now a baroness working her way towards royalty..

Those were the two most notable, yet people he had briefly met like Ciu’nan, Ophenia, Finn and Sariel.. He felt he could grow their branches of the relationship tree when he finds the time to do so.. Only except, with the topic of his two dearest, an inner thought peeped.

‘.. To you, they’re dear.. But what are you to them now..?’

He didn’t know the answer to that, yet Moreso he was scared to find out after his departure, should he somehow find himself face to face with them again.. He doesn’t know if they hate him now, he doesn’t know if he’s caused them harsh anguish.. though likely it has in a certain degree.. But regardless, his choice was made, and he can’t go back now. It was stupid to do that anyway. He couldn’t just roll back in and go ‘my bad guys, I’ll stay’-

Oh.. Right..

Funny he should even say roll.. He doesn’t have his treads anymore. And in their place were.. Things he considered as some form of being frowned upon by whatever gods were out there. What did he mean? Well, taking the place of the treads he came with originally.. Now are a set of.. Tentacles.. He believes they were called, looking back to that one biology class he took. Three on each side, totaling six. They were somehow relatively large, each one taking up a 3rd of his hull’s length, scratch the missing chunk at the back that was pushed out by- ... He'll get to that next. His new..er.. means of movement were the same color as his hull, though a lighter shade on the area of the little sucklers. That was only one of the current problems with his current appearance. He also had a mouth, in which that thing was probably the least of his concerns, as it likely would allow him to taste once more. The only drawback he saw within it was the fact it seems to function more like that of a dog's snout; With the barrel splitting horizontally to show teeth and tongue alike, and when closed leaves a line along its length. Third and 2nd to most concerning: a tail, which busted off his original tail framing from his body. If he didn't have a problem navigating before, now it was even worse with that big noodle of fur trailing behind him.. He wouldn't be surprised should he come face to face

Pierre subconsciously hummed while positioning one of his disembodied hands under the barrel in a thinking pose momentarily, tapping back to the current situation at hand. He wasn't sure how, but he had found himself stopping by a group which appeared to have consisted of those from the Adventurer's guild. One of which were familiar though, Jareth, if he remembered correctly enough from the Horned Rabbit fiasco. That situation in itself he felt that he was not equipped enough to properly help, though on his end it made up for the feeling of penetration by meeting and establishing the bond with Regula and Aria furthermore.

He simply listened on to the questions asked and answered between the other individuals of the group (which he had not looked at to visually describe yet) and the young girl who was now leading them to the area they were preparing to defend. But with the notion of moving in Pierre's case, it was more soundly, with the faint popping sounds emanating from the sucklers gripping the ground and moving him along, stopping the grip to move back up front, lift and pull him along the surface in his desired direction.

It was then that he'd noticed Jareth navigating next to him, so he may as well address the familiar face.

"Jareth, correct..? It has been quite long, hasn't it?" He spoke with less volume, intending to not interrupt anyone else as they continued. His voice remained formal, and his [Barrel Mouth] moved along with his words.

Fragrance of Haeddre

The young apprentice seemed quite excited to answer Jareth's questions, her eyes lit up quite overtly. "Mineshafts? Caverns? Passages beneath the village?" She put a finger to a face, looking up as if to think about it for a moment. "Nope! None that I know of! We usually don't need to leave or do much. Lady Ereike provides us with whatever we may need. We have been quite solitary from the County and Ryke as a whole due to our location." The maiden answered, but she perked up at the other questions, "There have been times where we have been threatened, however, Lady Ereike used her magic to ward off any dangerous creatures, Yes Yes!... However, considering that we require third-party assistance this time around, it must mean that Lady Ereike cannot simply ward off this threat."

She clasped together her hands and seemed to wear a proud expression. "Nope! No bugs have been seen yet, yes yes!" She quite boldly stated. A carefree smile on her face. Solidi avoid eye contact with Shael, her face showed she was slightly nervous after hearing her questions,

Solidi2.png"Haha~" She laughed anxiously, "Uhm..." Brushing that question under the rug, she turned to Connor's question instead, "Y- Yes Yes! Lady Ereike, Our Seer and Guardian is of magical descent. She can easily bloom these beautiful flowers which most animals and monsters seem to detest and steer away from! Once, she encased the entire village in a wall of Briar! Yes Yes! Lady Ereike is quite admirable!" She praised this supposed seer quite earnestly.

Pertaining to Nox's question, Solidi shrugged, "Lady Ereike had not given us any instructions to. So we did not see the need to yet." She answered simply. She once again avoided the subject of the bugs, as she fiddled with her fingers in her steps. When Arkh appeared, she was quite visibly startled. Where'd the heck he come from? She must've thought. Those paying attention could swear they heard a slight shriek coming from the girl. She cleared her throat and tried her best to elegantly shake it off.

"Okay! Lady Ereike is beyond this door, please take off your shoes and we ca-" Before the red-haired maiden could finish, the doors suddenly opened. A stronger and sudden sweet and lusciously honey-like fragrance enveloped the area, it was slightly more distinct than the usual scent of the village. Pale pink petals fluttered along the breezy wind, as a lofty woman(?) made her presence known. "There is no need." Her voice was as if she was trying to put a child to bed.

WTRPAdventurersPOV_R2.png

Though the woman was staring in the direction of the group, it looked as if she were blankly staring into space instead. Pallid and slim, long pointed ears peeked out from behind her vine-like hair. Seemingly growing from her hair was flowers similar to that of the heaths scattered around the village. "L- Lady Ereike!" Solidi exclaimed, her voice excited yet also slightly concerned.
Ereike.png"I hear what you ask, and I hear my dear apprentice's inability to provide an answer," The supposed Lady Ereike glared specifically at Pierre, "And for ye are scarce of the sanctity to enter this temple, I shall answer thine asks myself." Despite her expression saying revulsion, her voice was as delicate as the petal of a flower.

"There be no need for any underground pathways, for I have knowledge of where it is safe, and where it is not. At this minute, I do not pertain knowledge of how these defiling wretches cooperate. However, I have foreseen the first instance of these vermin being slain. It is through their eyes which ye can cleanse this realm of this blight, however, it did not seem effortless." The woman blinked, pausing for a moment. She looked directly west of where she stood. Squinting her eyes and pulling her face. She sighed. "Tall as horses. Sometimes larger... That is all I could witness for now."

The woman sighed. Solidi was listening diligently and seemed to be "writing" down something in her palm as if taking notes. Ereike suddenly flinched, as if she just witnessed something terrible. "That is... No. It is too early..." She uttered under her breath, she looked west again and squinted.

Elsewhere

As ruined moved closer to stalk its prey, its... whatever it used to hear would be brutally and quite rudely bombarded. "AhHHH!?!" A man screamed, his voice rough and coarse. "W- Wait- N- no- no, no, no! P- Please-" The man very loudly shouted, desperately begging. "SKkkrRRk!" A creature as large as a horse pounded the man's arm with its sharp thistle-like leg. Dripping out and bleeding onto the grass, painting the ground was a crimson liquid which flowed out from the man's arm. He screamed. "Please...! So- I pray, Save me oh Lord Lei-" The man called out for... something? Was he praying?

One of the insectoid creatures once again let its long thin, needly leg pierce through the man's limbs. It wasn't very precise, after all, they were just trying to make it stop moving so that they could carry it back. They needed it. They needed more. The man's breaths were loud and he still cried out in agony. One of the creatures again went in to pulverize the man, this time hitting it in the torso. The man once again shrieked painfully and then stopped moving.

"Skkrkksk." One of the insectoid creatures' shrieked. "SKKKKKRRRR" Another made a noise. Two of the creatures skittered off, moving uncannily southward. Crawling on the ground, with their quick-moving legs. One of them stayed behind, it seemed like it was going to carry the body. It was silent now.

WTRPRuinPOV_R2.png

The brisk breeze of the wind, the shuffling of the trees' leaves. The fragrance of the heaths. The flowing of the water reflected the slightly cloudy azure sky above. The warmth of the sun looms over the day. The smell of iron. The smell of a fresh body. The leaking crimson paints the green grass in a shade of red. The creaking of the insectoid monsters as they moved their legs. The faint breaths of a dying man. The fluttering of a butterfly.

The insectoid monster seemed much too focused on the dead man to notice the ball of flesh and blood behind it.

The flesh horror nearly trembled with anticipation as he heard the screams of the dying man. The delicious scent of blood set his nostrils flaring and his mouth salivating, drool dripping past the horrific maw set with several rows of razor-sharp teeth. It was with some disappointment he noted the creatures before him would not be an easy kill. They were not deer or rabbits, and they looked to have tough carapaces. Too tough for his teeth to tear through. He looked around the clearing for something his taloned fingers could grasp to use as a weapon. The horrific blue eyes found nothing. He was hungry. He came to a decision quickly as he watched them kill the man. Before all three creatures could leave the clearing, he dashed forward on all fours and the jewel that served as his catalyst began to shine. These things would make excellent puppets to help him hunt. [Used Flesh Horror Domain F Ability: Twist and Warp] The Jewel shined as he closed the distance between himself and the three creatures quickly. Then it fragmented, light shining out of the jewel as three fleshy tendrils flashed out fast as lightning to touch the creatures, and if he was still alive the man. They would help him hunt.

Sun-Kissed - character has a new found fascination with the Leilosis faith. Will suffer in social situations with those that despise the followers of the Sun God. Will excel in social situations with Sun God followers.

Solidi's answers pointed to this Lady Ereike as the sole reason this frontier village had been able to thrive at all. The fact that the village still existed was a testament to this seer's ability to protect the area. Jareth fell into contemplative silence as he listened to Solidi further elaborate (or not) on the details questioned by the others.

It was then that he became aware of the slithering appendages beneath Pierre as the tank came up beside him. Jareth's expression did not change as he beheld the unusual attachments sprouting from the construct's undercarriage. The moment created a conflict within Jareth. On the one hand he felt as though the bizarreness of the scenario should cause him to react in some way. It was completely unnatural and a normal person would definitely be taken aback by it--the fact that Jareth was aware of this proved as much. On the other hand, however, Jareth felt a stillness within himself as though what once would have reacted or caused him to react to the sight of this unnatural scene was deadened somehow. His stomach did not "turn over". His heart did not race. There was no involuntary jolt or shrinking back from the sight. He was simply...basking in the presence of this tank and its tentacles seemingly unaffected by the strangeness of it all.

Apparently Pierre had also recognized Jareth as the slithering metal box addressed him by name. Jareth returned his attention to where Solidi was leading them as he answered.

"Indeed. I recall Michael mentioning you assisting during the rabbit hunting mission. You look...different from how he described." Jareth said.

It was then that they arrived at the temple of Lady Ereike. A strong perfume filled the air as a lone figure emerged from the double doors leading into the building. Jareth absently tugged his scarf over his nose and mouth as he listened to this elvish creature speak. When both the Lady and Solidi stared off to the west Jareth followed their gaze but did not see what they saw. He decided to activate his tremorsense if it might tell him anything at all.

Shael was glad to hear competent questions from those she'd be working with for this mission. It put her a bit more at ease that those she was with were rational. It sounded like Jareth was aware of who this mechanized individual was which was interesting to her.
Shael didn't say a word when Solidi tried her best to answer Jareth's questions and, her gaze only became increasingly skeptical when Solidi was unable to address the questions she asked. Right, as Shael suspected this person was less experienced than she presented. This sort of thing wouldn't typically bother Shael under other circumstances, it was clear she was in training, but given the weight of seriousness of the situation. Indeed what it was to be young, Shael was certain that she was much older than Solidi, like amany fae Shaels lifespan was quite long being in the Elven tree. Much like Jareth she quickly picked up on how important this lady was to the village's success since they were only asking for outside help since she wasn't able to protect them by herself it sounded like. Either way Solidi tried her best, from what Shael could tell so that much was commendable.

It wasn't long after these exchanges of getting some information from the swath of questions that they asked in which the Lady herself came out. Shael looked to her giving her, her full attention now as her appearance certainly seemed to show authority. Ereike made Shael feel more at ease, someone of a more mature age, and who was capable of saying whether or not she knew something clearly. So there wasn't any information on how they worked together but she did get some valuable information. It looked like if she encountered any of these bugs Shael now knew to aim for the eyes. This was a logical conclusion since the insects must have had protection elsewhere which would make piercing them more difficult.

Tall as horses and sometimes larger also gave them a general sense of scale, so these weren't small bugs either, Shael knew that she'd need to keep a distance, and support people where possibel with her bow more than likely then.
"Understood, thank you for your insight, Lady Ereike, I'm certain it'll be of great assistance." She said business like and to the point maintaining her serious look, but her brows furrowed a bit in a concerned way when Lady Ereike visibly flinched.

"What's wrong?" She asked, tentatively putting a hand near her bow, as if she was ready to bring it out on a moment's notice, instinctually prepared if something particularly problematic was about to transpire.

Connor Erland

Solidi promptly started excitedly answering and explaining what she knows pertaining to each of their questions, as Connor attentively listened. At least to the best of an apprentice’s abilities anyway it seems like, as it was clear that Solidi was fumbling for an answer for the questions by the pale elf before he asked his own, almost immediately jumping at the opportunity to answer when he did. Either way, she was still able to fill the party in on some valuable information.

Connor was a bit surprised to hear that their main line of defense was flowers and plants, which he assumes is the reason for why Haeddre Village and its surroundings looks the way it is. Would that mean that the local flora they can see in their surroundings affect the bugs as well? Or is it specifically plants grown by Lady Ereike that has this property…?

His train of thought was broken by the Lady herself emerging from the temple’s doors. Her striking plant-like presence, coupled with the sweet fragrance that seemed to follow the her, caused Connor to bring his full attention to her for the moment. It appears that she had the means to listen in already, as following her entrance was further explanations for the situation.

An apparent weak spot was mentioned, which Connor made sure to remember. Another fact that he will be sure to remember on the other hand is the size of what they were about to encounter. Connor has heard a lot about the different kinds of monsters one might encounter in this vast world, and bugs the size of a horse isn’t even the worst of it. The prospect of genuinely coming face to face with that however momentarily gave him pause.

Lady Ereike’s sudden behaviour and the other’s reaction to it caught Connor’s attention. In response, he also began to shift his violin case from his shoulders and into his hands. Surely he didn’t mishear Solidi saying that they had an hour to prepare right?

“Is something the matter?” he asks.

1678741129446.pngNox Bloodraven

Nox was honestly quite surprised with how little the apprentice seemed to know about the approaching catastrophe, the guild had made it seem like a big deal after all. Yet both this girl and the citizens of the town seemed relatively unphased by the looming danger. What was even more shocking though was the fact the tank had begun talking through its barrel! GROSS! Just what the heck was going on? What kind of messed up situation, fever-dream esc scenario had she gotten herself into! And things only got worse from there.

Turns out the village was protected by plants, thorns, and the like. You know, namely things bugs tend to devour and corrupt. How nice, how fantastic, how absolutely blessed. Nox had run into some strange flora when hunting but to imagine an entire town proceeded by such, frankly, it was hard to believe. Besides, on her way here she hadn't seen anything resembling a carnivorous plant, had she missed them, avoided them? There was so much she didn't know and it only got worse the more was asked! Why did this world have to be so damn different to her own!

Though things only got weirder when the seer herself was introduced to the group. Powerful and suffocating scent aside, she seemed... odd. Not in a bad way but, she was odd. But at least she had some further information for the group, so the bugs were around the size of a horse. That would make hitting them a lot easier at the very least, and apparently, their eyes were a weak point. Which to Nox made a whole lot of sense given most bugs possess a tough exoskeleton, though in fairness had it not been pointed out it wouldn't have crossed her mind until much later.

What was really odd though was the sudden far gaze and cryptic words she then spoke to herself. Too early? To early for what? Looking around Nox noticed some others ready their weapons and it became clear some were expecting the worse. A fair assumption to have given the circumstance, an hour before the battle was around the time a scouting party or advance squad would show up. At least in dramas she had watched. Perhaps this was the case here. Perhaps a bug had appeared nearby. Even still, Nox didn't move to grip her blade. It seemed like it was the wrong thing to do. Looking to the temple, Nox shook her head. This new body sure came with some weird traits, she wasn't even religious so why did it bother her so much?

Looking at the seer, Nox spoke up. Someone had already asked about the situation anway so she wasn't going to bother asking the same. There were things to be done and they needed to be done asap, especially if her theory on an advance party was true. "I belive the citizens should be moved to the temple. Defending the whole town would be disadvantageous given our numbers"

Pierre carried on, listening intently to the information that was being provided with each passing second. No underground routes for these creatures to have gone through, no particular line of defense aside from what seemed to be Flora with unique properties, incompetence in terms of threat preparations, and other aspects that he will think on in a moment.

For him, it was odd that the girl, Solidi, seemed to dodge or deflect some of the questions asked. It didn't help moreso that she seemed to slightly sweat during her responses.. He can’t question it yet, however. The current dilemma with these incoming insects needed to be dealt with first.

He saw that others among this group were rather well fit for the role. Weapons and possible magic to use as a collective force to draw them off.. But himself..? He wasn’t exactly confident in his own offensive capability as of now. With his main armament comprised by physiology, and now bound to these appendages, the most he felt he could do was probably whack, punch, and knock insurgents around, and possibly even grab, throw or squeeze if he found the time to train himself.. Or find someone else willing to help tutor in multi-limbed combat.

Moments passed, and now they had arrived to meet with this ‘Lady Erike’ individual. As Solidi were prepping manners, said individual made her stoic, yet slightly cold appearance before them. Her glare at him specifically provoked an inner degradation once more, having Pierre be again doubtful of his own ability to contribute to this place’s defense.. Guess he’ll have to prove her wrong somehow..

Then Erike glanced and stared hard to the west, uttering something of concern.. Feeling as though he should contribute, he joined the others in voice.

“.. Is there a danger you’re sensing from that direction, Lady Erike? If yes, then I must suggest we make haste with gathering civilians to a safe point.” He asked respectfully, pointing a disembodied hand in the direction the elvish woman was gazing upon.

His tentacles tensed, ready to move should the prompt come.

Jareth's Tremorsense

The floor was subtly trembling, something was approaching from the direction Ereike had been looking in. Whatever it was, its movements were swift. Pit-a-pat. Pit-a-pat. Constant, quick and approaching at a fast pace. There was something else as well, but that was much further. Right now, Jareth would be able to figure out that at least two, moderately large, multiple-legged creatures were approaching their location very quickly.

Fragrance of Haeddre

Ereike.png"Hm... I see." Ereike sighed, and looked back to the group, intending to further answer their questions. Solidi was looking from the west and then back to Lady Ereike. Of course, like the others, she didn't see much beyond trees, bushes and the lake. Lady Ereike looked to Nox who had suggested they move the villagers into the temple. She stood still and unanswering for moments. Closing her eyes.

"Yes. That may lessen casualties. As they were the ones who built it, I shall allow them to enter." She answered, opening her eyes again, before pointing to the group, "However, your group is not permitted entrance to the temple at any cost. If any one of you stepped less than a foot in this place, I would rather it be torn down and have it rebuilt." The elf-like lady firmly warned.

She then looked to Solidi, who then straightened up immediately, "Solidi, do quickly gather the others of your kin. Tell them to take shelter within the temple." The seer commanded, Solidi smiled, "Yes yes! Will do!" She replied enthusiastically, and energetically ran off. She then looked back to the group,

"Ye' all shall move westward. It seems my sight and the future of today had not aligned. Two of the vermin are approaching and will be here at any minute. If you fail to dispatch them quickly, the three which are approaching from the south will bring devastation to the village. That would make five. I put my trust in your combined abilities," Lady Ereike informed, before turning to the temple doors, "Yes. With urgency." She replied in regards to Pierre, despite her expression being hidden, there was a clear, yet slight, distaste in her tone. She opened the doors and left the party to their own devices with her instructions.

Elsewhere

With Ruin's charge, he would, unfortunately, be unable to turn the creature into horrors from who knows where due to it having a grade above F. (Twist And Warp can only transform creatures of the same grade being F Grade Creatures) The creature turned around and looked at the ruin. Skr. Skrr. It made unintelligible noises, which barely meant anything, especially ruin. It seemed to be confused for a moment.

It turned around, it had to feed. It had to feed it. However, Ruin's technique did seem to work on something. The man, who had been a sliver away from truly being dead, slowly. Silently. Rose. Body Twisting, his torso, legs and flesh ripped themselves apart. Extending and elongating in manners it should not have. Crack. Creaking, his bones were breaking apart. Seeping through twisted and torn skin was red still warm blood.

The man was no longer what he once was, even in death, he could not sleep peacefully. The sun shone brightly, the warmth was welcoming in contrast to what had been happening. The heaths bore full witness to the events as they unfolded. The meat had started moving again. The bug charged at the odd moving flesh which used to be the man that it had killed. Its needle-like front leg intended to penetrate the creature again as it had before.

Jareth's stern expression hardened further as he sensed approaching creatures.

"Hostiles." He announced to the party. "Less than 100 feet out and closing fast. At least two creatures. Maybe more behind them."

Images of the carnage at Yemaya flashed through his mind. Whether he wanted to be here or not, Jareth wasn't about to let a catastrophe like that happen to these people.

"Fleet...Particle Armor (Natural Armor (Heavy) D)." Jareth said.

A ripple went out from his chest as his entire form, clothes and all, began to conform to the contour of his body. Short black spikes jutted out at random intervals in the wave then receded as his form was encased in the pitch-colored armor. The darkness enshrouded his face last while simultaneously tainting his hair, leaving only two glowing white spots for his eyes.

"Hope you all know how to team up. We'll split into two groups of three. One of you ranged attackers should hold back and keep an eye on the enemy. If either team needs support, you can lend assistance." he said before moving 30 feet towards the incoming enemies.

Arkh Jager

Arkh idled as questions and answers came and went. Paying close attention to it all, silently assimilating the information. Though the sudden flinch Lady Ereike had him on high alert. Something within that sight of hers was clearly unwelcome. Arkh glanced over to the trees, not expecting much, since his eyes had an average sight in all aspects. That didn't stop him from reaching for his sword. He remained at the ready until both Ereike and one of the adventurers explained the oncoming threat to the group.

Imminent danger from two sides, worryingly close. There wasn't much time to think, so when the adventurer who called out the monsters coming (Jareth) proposed a plan on the spot, Arkh finally made his voice heard "Sounds good. I'm heading west!" He exclaimed as he sprinted into the forest, making his way through with [Freerunner F] halting himself at around the 50 feet mark, taking a good look around in case the monsters had a high speed. Unsheathing his bastard sword, Arkh held it at the ready.

Shael understood as a Fae herself, (Presuming Lady Ereike was one herself) why she felt so strongly about the temple. Ideally there wasn't any reason for them to go in unless the bugs managed to get to it to attack the people. But with a group like this they were not going to let that happen, Shael was sure of it, if they all put their best abilities forward to prevent these insects from attacking people. Regardless Shael was of agreement with Nox that the people should be moved into that location since that was where they would be safest it. Shael had perhaps picked up on the slight toneal shift which transpired when Lady Ereike answered the construct. She could understand that too from a Fae perpective, the tank which seemed familer to her for some reason also struck as her as..an oddity for this realm, at the end of the day however if the construct was there to help too, what did it matter if it did not fit the norm of what she understood constructs to begin with.

Once she heard Lady Ereike give the breakdown of what was approaching there were some thoughts in her mind about how they should divide their forces perhaps.
"I understand." She said matter of fact in response to Lady Ereike once she finished, it was really all she had to say on that, it was time to jump into action sooner than they had thought perhaps.

Very quickly Shael tuned in to what Jareth was saying since it sounded quite insightful, something about him made it sound like he was someone's whose words were good to take seriously. It was pretty impressive seeing his particle armor come up, she had to admit to herself. What he said next made sense to her as he split up. At that revelation of the word hostiles,, Shael took her Eclipse bow out, and took a lunen arrow from her quiver to ready it.

"Right then, I'll hold back, my speciality is ranged and I'll supplement support where it's needed."

Once again speaking in a very business like fashion, looking toward the direction that Lady Ereike had said that the hostiles were first to come, glint of determination in her eyes, hopefully she'd be able to land some critical shots on these beings eyes and get passed whatever natural defenses they may have possessed.

Connor Erland
charc.jpg

Lady Ereike and the rest of the party have now confirmed the situation, they really are about to have a battle way sooner than Connor was led to believe. At this point, he already had both his violin and katana out on each hand, ready to be used.

As Jareth started announcing a basic plan of action, Connor started to move the same as the rest of the group. He was now running to the west, and while he was planning on getting into the melee as well, he was making an effort to try to stick a tiny bit behind whoever else was going to be moving into the thick of it.

“If any one of you takes a hit, you can try staying close to me! I should be able to help provide at least some relief.”

To be honest, he was well and truly playing it by ear, and he was not sure if that was something to be worried about. His heart was pounding, yet it felt like his mind wasn’t overwhelmed yet. Connor attempted to focus and think of what his brother would do. It’s obviously going to be big trouble if they get overwhelmed. Attempting to reduce chances of missteps, he tried making this well known.

“Uhm..! I’m sure everybody understands this, but we really should deal with the nearest two as quick as we can!” he said, frowning at the idea of the group fighting any more bugs than necessary at the same time.

1679378235689.pngNox Bloodraven

Nox was glad her idea to gather the civilians in the temple was accepted by the 'Seer' so easily, however, the words that followed very quickly left her feeling dirty. Why was it she and her companions couldn't enter the temple? Why was it better to tear the entire place down than permit them entry? How ridiculous! The construct that resembled a tank maybe, but the rest of the group? Were they really all that bad? Shael was an elf! Kin to this seer and the fae, surely she would be welcomed no? And Nox herself, though not of this world, presumed her race containing the world 'blessed' would have allowed her just as much of an excuse to enter! Actually, why did that even bother her? Nox wasn't religious! Maybe it was the tone or the implications, regardless it rubbed Nox the wrong way.

Turning to the rest of the group, Nox listened to their plan of action and took after Jareth when he began to move for the west. This would quite possibly be her toughest battle yet. Fighting wolves and stray goblins in the forest likely wouldn't compare. As such, before the main force arrived, Nox was intent on getting in as much practice as she could. With so many trained individuals helping out, she would likely be able to learn a thing or two as well. This Jareth fellow in particular seemed very strong. How did he change his appearance? Was that magic? Now wasn't the time to be asking such but once everything had settled down, she'd be sure to ask.

"I don't know how useful I'll be to you all but I'll do my best to assist where I can. Close combat is my speciality but I suppose engaging multiple targets when they're weakened or distracted would be where I shine best. Make of that what you will".

What started as a hiss turned into a snarl, then evolved once more into a roar of challenge as the flesh horror charged forward after the bug. It was stronger than him yes, but he thought that perhaps with his new creature they could rip, then tear, then feed on the broken form of the creature. Ruin charged and attacked, lashing out at the thing before him with his horrific visage. He did not expect to do much damage, but he figured that perhaps he would be able to distract the creature long enough to allow his new kin to slay the creature. "KILL!" The echoing roar serving as an order for his new minion emanating from Ruin as he attempted to bite the creature's torso and gut it with his talons.

----------------------------------

Once more did Pierre find himself offput by Erike's demeanor. Yes, it was stoic, but he could trace that sense of prejudicial spite around her easily as she worded her agreement with his urgency.

'Right then..' He lightly sighed, before things went back into high gear as Jareth made note of incoming hostiles, close ones at that. Internally his non-existent stomach dropped. He hadn't had any prior training with his new attachments, moreso he had been avoiding physical conflicts like this as a whole.. But.. There were innocents at stake, and he wasn't going to fail them. That, and he sure as hell was going to stick it to Erike by assisting the most he could. He doesn't care about getting kills, he'll just do his best, one way or another.

He wasn't going to use all of his energy for now though, he needed to strategize and make his moves quickly if he needed to succeed. Starting off, he went a little on the quick end, moving with [Fast F] to make haste with his position, which ended up being 28 Feet, being on Jareth's left.

"..I will be truthful.. I've been living my life trying to stay away from fights.. I had thought I'd already fought my battles.. Now I've learned that some conflicts that need fighting can't be avoided. And I'll damn well try to make use of this body to assist and persevere with all of you."

Voicing his newly learnt lesson, Pierre stood fast, balling his [Disembodied Hands] into fists and having them at the ready, frequently eyeing the surroundings up front.

Battle!

With the group rushing west of the village where The Seer had directed them, it would be a shock to see that the first two bugs were seemingly much closer to the village than had first appeared. Wasting no time at all, Arkh (Mention) had overshot how far the bugs actually were. Basically flying past them as they skittered closer to the village, spindly legs quickly and constantly planting themselves into the floor. They were, as Lady Ereike had said, the size of a horse. Although, slightly bigger. Despite being fast, Arkh wasn't very stealthy about it, the bug closest to him noticed how he ran right past it, stopping in its tracks.

The other bug, however, had continued to move only a bit more forward before the rest of the group caught up, it didn't seem to notice Arkh as he ran past the couplet. The bugs were seemingly in a circle of patches of flowering heaths. They watched. The bug focused on Arkh didn't seem to notice the group as they had caught up.

The bug facing the group hissed, its odd screech was ear-piercingly loud. It charged forward swiftly, lunging itself at Nox. It closed in, moving 4 feet forward while extending out its long thin spike-like leg, like a spear thrusting forward, it intended to pierce Nox's torso. Its aim was slightly off, but it would be painful if it connected. Its exoskeleton seemed shiny and very hard, as its movements weren't very fluid. Its body made constant creaking noises as it dashed forward.

Similarly to the other bug which charged toward Nox, the second bug which was facing Arkh would charge at him. Despite its rigid movements, the bug was awfully quick, its eyes were umbrellaed underneath a hammer-like head. It moved fast forward 9 feet, attempting to tackle Arkh over and pin him to the ground. Its body creaked with every movement.

Elsewhere

With Ruin's command, the man's twisted body lunged forward at the bug. Stretching out its own arm as it attempted to scratch back at the bug. The bug's spindle arm thrusts fast into the Fleshy Body's spiral-knotted arm.

(Bug's [Attack] [Natural Weapon (?) + Strength (?)] = 4 - Nameless Man/Flesh Body's [Attack] [Natural Weapon F(1) + Strength E(2)] = 3 = 1 Damage)

The bug's spike-like punctured through the Fleshy Body's arm. Crack. Crack. The only support holding the arm broke, bones cracking and shattering. A loud noise emanated from it, as the Fleshy Body's [Heavy] Natural Armour F, broke. The fleshy body of the man was now vulnerable to any attacks that may come its way. As the bug began to prepare for its next attack, then suddenly Ruin bit into the torso. However, this would barely do anything to the creature due to its extremely hard exoskeleton.

The bug was confused, and was about retort with a kick, as Ruin's minion aimlessly scratched at the creature, however, it would do little to the insect, as it let out a loud shriek. It billowed forward, getting out of Ruin's attempt at a bite, as it tackled the minion to the ground.

(Bug's [Attack] Fighting Style Technique [?] (??) [Incapacitating] = Effective.)

As the Fleshy Body struggled, the bug pinned it down and began to prepare to stab it again with its needle-like arm. Raising it up, before it would again bring it down.

They're fast! Jareth thought as the scrambling creatures came barreling out of the trees at them. Two of them, slightly larger than a horse just as Lady Ereike had said. What she hadn't explained were their appendages: sharpened, appearing more like swords than legs. And that sheen on their exterior, it reminded Jareth of the polished look of a well-cared for suit of armor. Out of the corner of his eye, Jareth saw Arkh overextend way ahead of everyone else. His mistake caused one of the bugs to turn on him, while the other came to meet Jareth and the rest.

"Pierre, you and one other person go help that guy that ran ahead." Jareth called to the tank while reaching towards his own blackened waist. His hand melded with his body for a moment before pulling out, retrieving from within an iron catalyst made in the likeness of an oversized sewing needle. "Anyone with appraisal or sensory skills should use them now to assess the creature. Analyze its weaponry and defenses and try to locate weak points. Call it out as you see it and keep your team informed. I'll attempt to immobilize it!"

Jareth places himself directly in front of the insectoid's charge while waving the catalyst around as he spoke. "Sands under the All-Seeing Eye, come forth and carry away the ground from beneath my adversary: [Quicksand] D!" Jareth called out as blackened particulate swirled around him in response to his activated mana.

Once the incantation ended, the ground beneath the bug churned and seemingly melted away into a sinking pit of golden sand attempting to snare the creature. If it succumbed to it, the insectoid would immediately begin to be eroded by the churning sands (consider it an attack on the weapons/armor, if any/as applicable).

Actions: 1. Communication (?), 2. Magic Attack [Quicksand: Magic E, Domain F (Affinity: Continuing, Incapacitating, Penetrating, Tangle, Range: 30ft, AOE: 15ft, Duration: 1 hour)]

Calculations: Intelligence C (4), Catalyst D (3), Ability E (2)

Continuing - the attack has a means of causing ongoing damage. An acid or fire burn. The poison that courses through veins. This technique only applies to sources of damage in an attack and not other special effects. This technique can be used to inflict long term ongoing effects like diseases or curses or short term effects like pain.
Incapacitating - puts a target to sleep/knocks them out/paralysis/petrification/immobilization/etc. Target must be same or lesser letter grade than technique. Costs 14 points to acquire and level rather than 7. This is not a kill shot but can open up the target to a kill shot afterward.
Penetrating - can ignore grades of an item when said item is used to defend. F - 1 grade
Tangle - ensnares target so they have difficulty moving or doing anything. The snare generally has a visible component like ice or vines that can be destroyed to prematurely end the binding. Strength of binding is relatively low but takes an action to break free from at minimum. Duration of affinity is 1 post of target per grade. If out of combat, duration is up to narrator discretion.
