Graded [Haeddre Village] Worlds Training - Foresight, Flowers, Bugs and The Invasion.

Connor Erland
charc.jpg

Now that Connor has more or less stopped in place, he can now take stock of the scene as the others started their attack, Arkh like before swiftly making relatively quick work of the bugs and the sound of an arrow whistling past him. The loud screech has already alerted him of the now visibly wounded bug becoming agitated. With the urgency of the situation, he barely had any time left to brace himself, raising his katana and violin in front of him as the rampaging insectoid barreled towards him. Pain shot through his arms as all the weight of the huge bug crashed into him, forcing him to try and keep balance as he staggered a few feet backwards.

Another bug turned its attention to him immediately while he was still recovering his footing. Connor just had to wonder if he should be glad that he was apparently being the best distraction right now. There would be no respite it seems, as this other bug now aggressively pounced on his position with intimidating speed. Eyes widening, his self preservation instincts kicked in as he once again raised his katana to meet the sharpened leg now extending towards his body [1].

Actions:
[1] - Defend from the attack now coming his way.

Despite Ruin being the closest monster to her in terms of ft, Ruin had shown at least at the moment that he was more interested in also attacking the bugs, which as far as Shael meant that she needn't attack the flesh monster until it showed open hostility toward the group. She knew very well that monsters tended to attack and destroy indiscriminately against threats monster or not however, so this was not lost on her that she needed to be careful.

Part of her couldn't help but feel a bit frustrated when her shots were not landing quite the way she wanted them too, nor were they as effective. At the very least she was piercing through their armor and creating vulnerabilities for follow up shots or for her teammates to strike. Despite knowing the eye was the place to hit, she did not possess the hot shot skill which would have made this a much more straight forward task. She was just starting out with the depths of her power however so this shouldn't have been too much. of a surprise. She was going to get stronger so that she could protect the innocent and carry out her aspirations for her people.

"Solidi, get back to somewhere safe! You've seen first hand how dangerous this is, if you aren't careful you'll get killed. I know you're worried about your brother but you should be doing what's best for your life right now." She exclaimed toward her, after she had been pushed to safety. Shael while she spoke up took another Lunen arrow out and strung it against her bow and arrow catalyst, and looked to see if she could get a lock on her next target. So many of these enemies were unpredictable, who knew what was going to happen if they couldn't dispatch them quickly. It was very clear how easily these bugs could kill now.

"I'm taking a shot at the one closest to Connor!" She gave an additional heads up ,wanting to reduce the chance of friendly fire. Doubtful that any of these things understood common, unaware about what Ruin might know.

Shael walked backwards 5 ft, seeing how much closer the bugs were getting.
Shael then settled on the bug 3 which had knocked Connor back, aiming for what she thought to the weakest spot based on what she knew if possible, only firing when she could get what she thought was her best shot with Steady Hands F.

Actions:

1. Step back 5 ft, while facing toward enemy.
2. Aim and take a shot using Steady Hands F at bug 3 targeting any perceived weak spot from it being attacked.

Battle!

Just as the first bug’s thin, spear-like leg was about to pierce through Nox’s torso violently, it would suddenly be hit with a large wave of… Sand?
[Jareth’s [Attack]; Catalyst D(3) + [Intelligence] C(4) + [Sidewinder Strikes] E(2) = (9)]
= [Bug’s [Attack] (??) - Jareth’s [Attack] (9) + [Penetrate] F(1)]
= [Jareth’s [Attack] (5)]
The bug’s own attack wouldn’t help it keep its ground, as it was suddenly pushed to the side by the sandy strike. Jareth’s magic would be successful in forcibly moving the bug toward its kin [Knockback F]. The bug would violently crash into its supposed allies, its exoskeleton shattering on the impact.

The wave itself was strong enough to kill the bug as well. The subsequent crash from the now-dead first bug would cause the other two bugs to topple over themselves as a result. Before they could get themself up, however, they would be impacted by another sudden attack from Jareth.
[Jareth’s [Attack]; Catalyst D(3) + [Intelligence] C(4) + [Falling Star] D(3) = (10)]
= [(Bug 2’s & Bug 3’s [Exoskeleton] ?(?) - Penetrate E) - Jareth’s [Attack] (10) + [Blight] E(2)]
The insectoids would be utterly devastated. Their bodies were completely crushed, like swatted flies. Armour shattered and their innards squashed. If that wasn’t enough, to add further damage, their carcasses would be desecrated by Nox’s attack, which completely diced the three bugs.

Ereike.pngEnough with this.” A voice echoed from behind the trio. Along with it, an overwhelming sweet scent matched the delicate yet commanding tone. It was none other than the village’s Seer, Lady Ereike. “Cease thy weapons. Wherefore be the others? All of ye must gather with utmost urgency.” She stated. She looked at where they stood, seeing the repulsing splatter of disgusting bits of what used to be insect-like creatures.

Though her face remained still, the sight visibly displeased her, as immediately raised a hand. A verdant gleam emitted from her palms, as she moved her arm in a delicate motion. Around the area beneath the trio, the earth shook, crackling as it bulged up. Glimmering roots energetic with magic crawled out from the ground, dancing and twirling around the bug’s dead bodies and pieces, before erratically pulling it into the ground below. From which, beneath and around the group bloomed brightly coloured and eye-catching heathers.

Their fragrance immediately overpowered the horrible stench of the bug’s dead corpses, and completely removed from the scene. Ereike let a sigh leave her, seeming much less tense with the bugs’ bodies removed. “Come. It would be best if the two of ye and that thing and the other ones are within a single group--” The fae turned around and began walking toward where the other group had been headed, “Something unsightly has made its wretched self present, and this one would rather it not walk un-overseen within this place. There are other things that this one must make ye all aware of as well.” Ereike firmly stated.

WTRPAdventurersPOV_R8.3.png

Connor’s blade may have not protected him against the bug this time around due to the bug’s much sharper attack than the last one, but luckily for him, Arkham’s swiftness would save him from potentially having a puncture wound somewhere through his torso or arms.
[Arkham’s [Attack]; [Steel Bastard Sword] B(5) + [Strength] A(6) + [Shadow Speed Slicer] E(2) = (13)]
= [Bug’s [Attack] ?(?) - Arkham’s [Attack] (13)]
= [Arkham’s [Attack] (6) - Bug’s [???] ?(?) = Arkham’s [Attack] (4)]
= [(Bug 3’s [Exoskeleton] ?(?) - [Penetrate] F) - Arkham’s [Attack] (4)]
Again, the bug put up quite a lot more resistance than it did compare to the last bugs that Arkham and the group had fought. Its body seemed to be much sturdier when it came to an attack with his sword. However, with the help of its penetrative properties, Arkham was able to break through the bug’s armour and destroy it.

As Arkham had practically destroyed Shael's target, her arrow would fly right past between Arkham and Connor. Shooting straight ahead and into the second bug’s exposed head, near where Shael’s first arrow had hit. Like a bubble being even slightly touched, the mushy insides of its head would pop. Violently spilling its disgusting fluids all around the area.

Though unnecessary, Arkham’s attack would break its head further. Making it very clear that the bug was now completely out of commission. Still and completely devoid of life. It was strange, but the bug’s armour would feel much sturdier when Arkham attacked it with his sword, resisting his blow ever somewhat in a way.

To the side from Connor, Solidi would sigh. “Phew… Woah! You folks sure are strong! Hahaha!” She laughed it off, though it did seem a slight bit nervous. “Ah! Yes, yes, mister, are you okay?” She ran up to Connor and asked with a worried expression. Seeing that nothing seemed inherently damaged, Solidi again sighed and smiled warmly.

Solidi.png“Good! Good!... Ah, and that thing… Solidi looked over to Ruin, her face was suddenly bright. “Ahh! I’m so glad you’re safe, Heli! I’m so glad you guys found my brother!” She praised…? The smile on her face was genuine, she seemed quite relieved.

“Ah, right, yes yes, Let me explain!” She cleared her throat, walking up to Ruin. “My brother went into the forest a bit earlier to gather some firewood for the night, yes yes! He didn’t seem to have returned by the time I was done gathering everyone up… so I asked Lady Ereike if he was okay. She told me that despite… Well-” She stuttered, there was a slight bit of worry in her words. “It was okay… because… He’s here now! Yes yes! Lady Ereike said she witnessed a wretched creature turn him into a disgusting mass of flesh! And uh- (No Offense), This must be him! I don’t… Uh- Lady Ereike never said anything about how long this appearance of his would last, but my brother must’ve been so worried about the village and ran home once he came to his senses!” Solidi explained with slighted confidence. Despite that, she seemed convinced.

She smiled and turned to what she presumed to be her brother, Right, Heli?” She was expecting to be reassured.

A deep and rapid clicking noise rumbled from his throat as Ruin considered the question. Brother? Ruin hated the implication that this prey item was anything but food to him. However he considered that the adventurers around him had just slain several creatures stronger then him. If his catalyst had still been saved he could have maybe captured the lot of them and used them to attack and feast on the village occupants. Given that he was now surrounded by those same adventurers he came to the conclusion that perhaps he could play along and avoid being killed by them. He nodded back at the human prey item. He would play along and pretend to be this human's sibling for now and run just as soon as he got an opportunity. In the meantime however he stayed where he was and did not move. He gave her what he hoped was a reassuring growl in the meantime.

Sandman - character's body is made of sand. Is likely to leave sand behind wherever they go. Has an easier time staying together in moist environments and less windy days. Even when solid, can give off the impression they may blow away at any moment.
Comrade - character has proved themselves to be a good ally and approachable. Character will have easier time convincing others to team up with their cause or to allow him to join theirs. More likely to join a cause that isn't worth joining too, however.
Sun-Kissed - character has a new found fascination with the Leilosis faith. Will suffer in social situations with those that despise the followers of the Sun God. Will excel in social situations with Sun God followers.
"Hm..."

Jareth's attacks had went off without a hitch. The bugs were now soundly pulverized under the sand columns, which had retained their cylindrical shapes after the spell had ended. Only now that Jareth's magic receded did the columns begin to flake away. A sensation on his lower arm caused him to look down. Like the three columns before them, the black sand comprising his arm was flaking away in similar fashion.

Panting. Short, gushing breaths could be heard issuing from the blackened sand mage after his latest round of attacks. There was an artificial sound to their cadence as though the listener were hearing a machine hissing its timed gaseous protests at its operation. Even his form, though hunched slightly, did not quake considerably under his need for air.

"I used too much power. Their speed caught me off-guard, and I overdid it."

At that time a familiar fragrance wafted into the meadow. Ereike had appeared and now urged the group to reunite. Jareth turned to face her then glanced in the direction the others had left. They had only been gone moments and as of yet there had been no distress signal. If the seer said they were done here, however, Jareth had no reason to linger.

jareth particle armor.jpg"The others went that way after we heard a scream. Let's go." Jareth informed her before departing.

The sand that had been scattered around began snaking along the ground towards Jareth as though being pulled into a vortex. His arm would continue to flake even as it was bolstered by the incoming sand.

Even after the bugs were taken care of after the follow up attacks, Solidi had failed to follow up on Shael's commands. It seemed like she had no intention of heeding any of their warnings, even when she had quite literally been shoved back to avoid being killed look of alarm fell on Shael's face. Worse yet she went right up to that thing. That thing that they probably should have tried to eliminate along with the bugs, Shael thought in hindsight now that they were in this situation. Even with Solidi's explanation, Shael readied her bow placing and arrow near it just in case, ready to fire at Ruin at a moment's notice if need be. She felt her heart racing now, she couldn't allow whatever that was brother or not to attack Solidi after they had gone through all of this. She still had so much more life to live, even if she was she truly playing with fire with her life in that moment. The fact the monster hadn't outright attacked her, meant there was that slight possibility it was her brother, but Shael knew full well that higher intelligence monsters existed.

"Solidi, even if that's your brother Get. Away. From Him. Now." She said with as much authority as she could muster.

"We have no way of verifying if that's your brother, even if it is, we have no knowledge the extent of control this monster could exert over him. It's dangerous for you to be so close to him, I already told you to go back to safety, we still have to investigate if there are any more hostiles in this area and you being out here with us is putting you at risk."

She said. Worst case scenario her brother got turned and they didn't have any obvious ways of turning him back or worse he was killed, none of which they could easily confirm in that moment, they still had other business to take care of. While this monster had not attacked them at the end of the day it was still a monster. Truthfully the only reason she wasn't attacking it now was because of the off chance it was her brother, and the fact that it hadn't attacked any of them.

She then looked to her allies hoping that they would back her up. It was difficult to quarantine this being. There was no way that Shael was going to risk running over to attack when it could risk endangering Solidi, at the moment with how close she was the thing could even try taking her hostage if they tried to attack it.

As the last of the bugs they were fighting fell to the ground unmoving, Connor took a moment to quickly scan around confirming that there are no more imminent threats for now. Shael and Arkh took care of things quickly thankfully. He was glad that Solidi is uninjured, but can’t help but think she was rather reckless for standing around in the open earlier. At the very least, she should be relatively safe if someone can keep an eye on her. “Don’t worry, I’m fine”, he reassured Solidi. Although that might be more due to the help of his allies and a bit of luck.

I should really thank them later.

Connor didn’t completely relax just yet however, owing to the fact that there was still the other creature that seemingly was helping them earlier. The newcomer was now standing, not yet making any other moves after taking care of the bugs. Connor kept his katana ready, but his arm slowly started lowering as Solidi started going on about that was supposed to be his brother. Was it really possible? It (he?) visibly nodded along to Solidi’s explanation, and it was evident that it did not take advantage of the chaos to attack one of them while they were distracted with the bugs. Surely, it still had enough intelligence to understand what was going on.

What Shael said however did remind him that there was still the possibility of the danger not being quite over. Connor was still a little conflicted but seeing the point in her words, figured that they should make sure that the situation is safe first as the top priority. Seeing Shael looking at them, he nodded and turned back to Solidi. “Alright, let’s see if we can consult with Lady Ereike first, okay?” He quickly glanced over at what was supposedly her brother, standing in place, and again turned back to Solidi. “Uh, Heli, right? We should be able to ask her for more details if she saw what happened to him.”

Arkham Koenig

Grimacing slightly, Arkham pulled his sword out of the disgusting mess that was the second bug. He then removed the foul smelling liquid off with a swift swing of his sword, and looked around to check if everything was in order. They seemed to be in the clear from murderous giant insect monsters. That left just one more problem to deal with it. While Solidi claimed the fleshy mess was her brother, he was siding with his fellow adventurers. While the... thing helped with the other monsters, it may be just looking for an out now that he lost the chance to have a meal. "You lift a tendril in her general direction, and this will turn into a much less civilized interaction" Arkham threatened. The risk of it taking Solidi as hostage was there, be it high or low, was not one Arkham was willing to make.

Nox Bloodraven

Nox was surprised to find the priestess had the power to turn the bug corpses into flowers, not to mention how rapidly she could do so. Though, it did make some sense, after all in her previous life there were fertilizers made specifically out of bug remains. Granted those bugs were a lot smaller and their blood wasn't so toxic but then again not very many things in this new world made sense to her just yet.

Turning to face the woman, Nox moved a hand to her nose as she sheathed her blade once again. The strong smell of flowers was pleasant in small doses but right now it was almost unbearable. But it was certainly better than the rotting smell the bug's blood had left behind. Even as a vampire who lived off of beast and monster blood, that stuff. Well, it screamed dangerous to consume. In fact, it had ruined her appetite quite considerably. "Understood. I'll remain close to you M'lady. If anything appears with the intent to deal you harm, please take shelter behind me".

And with that Nox took her place beside the Seer, following behind Jareth. "Do you know where these beasts hail from Lady Ereike? They seem unnatural"

Solidi.pngSolidi smiled. She was content, the growl from Ruin certainly satisfied her doubts. "Yes, yes! See, I told you so." She squealed delightfully, "This has to be Heli, it just has to--" The red-headed girl's revelry was cut off by Shael's stern words. "H- Huh?" She looked to the archer with confusion staining her face, "Get away? W- What do you mean?!" As Shael continued, Solidi realised quickly how stupid it may sound to everyone. Perhaps she was in denial. After all, Lady Ereike herself said that her older brother's mangled corpse was killed. Even so, she wouldn't accept it. It was something she can't accept.

"This has to be him!" The girl retorted, "It cannot be anyone but him, he did nothing but help, he even helped you!... Y- you... You insolent rotter!!" She yelled out loud, her face showing visible frustration with Shael's words. The girl would have most likely continued if it weren't for the sudden and overwhelming fragrance of a familiar someone.

"That is enough, child."

Heathers' Eyes

Lady Ereike firmly said as she walked right past Shael. Despite her apathetic gaze, anyone keen on paying attention could very slightly notice a sort of flicker in her attitude. She was a slight bit more gentle, with a hint of sympathy in her eyes as she stared at Solidi. Her eyes stared blankly at Ruin. She sighed as she flashed a brief glare at the thing. She turned to face Shael, "That is... It is..." She was hesitating. "That is indeed the young child's... 'Brother.' That wretched figure you witness now... It is... Temporary..." She was clearly lying. However, Solidi seemed to believe it was true.

She jumped up in joy, as her furious expression quickly melted. "See!? I told you it was him? Yes, yes, it could be none other than my brother, Helio. Right, Heli~?" The girl cheerfully burst out with a smile. The seer gently clapped her hands. Despite it seeming weak, it rang out loudly. Solidi took that as a gesture to hush down, as she'd quickly cover her mouth and pay attention, silently whispering "...Sorry." from behind her hands.

"Carefully listen ye' all. This one has bore witness to the origin of this infestation. From west of this settlement, within the forest, there is a much larger wretch which presently gives birth to multiple more vermin. Those vermin are weaker, and must still grow. However, other forsaken creatures in larger groups are feeding and protecting the spawner of these insects." Lady Ereike informed, "The folk of this place are gathered within the temple. This..." She pointed toward Ruin, "This will stay. As well as I, who shall... 'Attend' to its... Condition." She pathetically stated. She seemed disgusted with herself just by saying that.

"The rest of ye' shall traverse through the forest, locate the 'Spawner' and remove it from this part of the realm. Permanently. My apprentice shall accompany you in my stead, despite her... Naïveté... The child is well and able. She can fend for herself and provide support to you when in great adversity." The fae instructed, with a nonchalant tone and still face. "Make haste, continue forth immediately." The seer said, her tone firm and almost commanding.

The sands continued snaking after Jareth for quite a ways but eventually ceased as the distance became too great. His arm continued to disintegrate, but the effect did not appear to be spreading. As they followed Lady Ereike, his breathing returned to normal as well--that is to say, silent.

Though Jareth's breathing quieted, his footfalls were louder than ever. Since donning his armor, in fact, his steps had become quite audible, each stamping the earth beneath as though a large beast were trundling among the party. Despite such heaviness, his gait hadn't changed much. Indeed, he carried himself as though he were an ordinary adventurer wearing nothing more than a cloak and leather armor.

Jareth's gaze remained straight ahead as he followed Lady Ereike. If his eyes wandered, it wasn't apparent due to the armor obscuring the pupils. When they rendezvoused with the others and found Solidi defending some malphormed creature, Jareth's face turned to the creature and lingered on it for some time.

jareth particle armor.jpgHe made no comment as the back and forth over the monster went on, but when Ereike took charge of the beast herself, Jareth suddenly lifted his arm, palm outstretched towards the beast as though he were about to cast a spell. Sand still flaked from his arm as it hung there with ambiguous intent.

Ultimately, no spell came. When their host dismissed them to the forest, he began moving out.

Arkham Koenig

Arkham had no more to say on this situation. He had heavy doubt a monster could not try and pull this off. Its life was at stake, after all. That said, they no longer needed to worry much. While still pointing his blade at the creature, he heard loud steps going their way. Arkham gazed only for a moment, quickly realizing it was the rest of the group and Ereike.

After a brief rundown of the situation, they were instructed where to go next. It was clear time was of the essence here. Saving his breath for the fight to come, Arkham sprinted westward, sword at the ready. For an instant, Ereike's face when she spoke of tending to "Solidi's brother" came to mind. Could it be? Was she able to truly tell? The instant passed by, and was left behind for when things are about to get messy.

Solidi did not respond well to Shael’s remarks, as she quickly started getting more and more agitated. Connor was left to nervously stand in place as he tried to think of a way to calm her down, though it was obvious that it would be a difficult task. Fortunately, the timely arrival of Lady Ereike immediately put a stop to it. Just as he had hoped, Lady Ereike did confirm herself that the monster that had helped them just moments ago was indeed supposed to be Solidi’s brother. Listening to her response however, Connor was not reassured. In fact, the way that she seemed to be explaining all of this in an evasive manner did quite the opposite.

Whether this meant something bad or not, the new priority it seems is the source of the bugs that they have been fighting. Connor was definitely starting to feel the fatigue, but this would hopefully be what remains to be taken care of to finally put an end to the invasion. They were also ordered to have Solidi accompany them as well. Would this be alright though? Connor thought. Nonetheless, he nodded in acknowledgement of their new task. Sparing a worried glance at Lady Ereike and Solidi’s supposed brother, he rejoined his allies and started his move west into the forest.

~'Nox'~

1681070962877-png.1079750

It didn't take the group long to reassemble in the town, in actual fact the journey to the town had been quite swiftly traversed. Something that quite surprised Nox as she hadn't expected the fae seer to be quite so nimble with that frail and floaty impression she gave off. It was quite surprising indeed, this fae woman was far stronger than she let on, and in quite an ominous way. To be able to turn poisonous blood and hardened chitin to fertilizer and then in the same motion sprout unseeded plants. It was, off-putting. Even more so when one paid attention to just how many boughs of flowers lay around the village and its vicinity. Had they all previously been lifeforms turned into flowerbeds? Just what kind of power did this woman truly possess? Why did she know so much but plan everything so late? Nox was weary of the woman, this town rubbed her the wrong way.

Perhaps due to being on guard, perhaps due to being on edge or perhaps even for another reason entirely, the sight of the monster standing among her companions released a barrage of instinctual emotion into motion. Eyes glowing a bright red Nox's vision immediately snapped to the monster and her fangs naturally began to extend and show. Like a predator stalking its prey the woman was focused on Ruin and her hand gripped her sword hilt firmly. Internally it took Nox every ounce of strength not to give in to her primal instincts. It took every ounce of mental fortitude for her not to strike the beast down and feast. Her mind filled with a voice quite similar to her own that spoke but one word, an order, repeating again and again 'Eliminate'. Everything the seer had said was lost on Nox, not a single word had reached her, indeed nobody's voice reached her.

Well, that was until the Seer spoke her final word. A word that set Nox into an instinctual course of action she had no control over. 'Immediately'. The commanding tone the Seer had used was enough to push Nox's restraint over the edge. What she had heard was not what the seer had said but instead 'Eliminate Immediately'. Without missing a beat and as if on command, Nox pounced. Like an animal that had been waiting for the perfect chance to strike she acted swiftly and with conviction. Her body movements were completely natural and finely polished, as though she had done so many times before. Those who would have caught a glimpse of her attack would have witnessed something reminiscent to an apex predator, like a wolf striking at a doe.

In but a flash Nox moved from where she had been standing to within striking distance and with one swift and fluid motion both drew her sword and attacked. Her red eyes never blinked. Her sword glowed faintly as holy ice had formed around it during the initial strike. Nox had aimed for the monster's center mass but on the off chance she missed, she was ready to follow up with another rapid slash before creating some space between herself and her target.

It was rather unfortunate for Shael to hear Solidi be so determined that she was perfectly safe next to that thing when it was far from the truth. She just didn't want the girl getting hurt, and now there they were. with her getting upset and calling Shael a rotter. She couldn't help but almost scoff at such a comment. Given Solidi's age Shael wasn't nearly as offended as she could have been, not particularly showing any signs one way or another, a look of determination on her face. How else could she phrase what she said so that Solidi would understand the longer she stood near the monster, the more dangerous it was for her potentially? Irrespectively

Shael didn't need to formulate much of a response because before she knew it Lady Ereike was back and thankfully still alive. Unfortunately the way that Lady Ereike spoke was far from convincing to Shael, that most definitely was a monster and not Solidi's brother which was even more concerning, based on what she heard then and there.

She listened carefully to what was being said, and figured if they were going to go kill more of these things and take care of whatever that 'spawner' was she best stay toward the back of the group like last time. Upon reflecting on this she looked to the others who had joined them and was quite pleased to see that none of them had succumbed to the monsters it looked like. She could tell there was some kind of tension in the group regardless with the still alive monster near Lady Ereike. People's focus were on it, which it was hard not to be. All they could really hope was that she could handle Ruin, thankfully that seemed to be the case as just with the way LAdy Ereike carried herself Shael could only assume she was likely more powerful then herself. She nodded once toward Lady Erieke just to show that she understood, before she too started to head west with the others.

Just as she was speaking up, looking to Jareth, a faint smile forming, "I'm glad to see that your party seems to have made it largely unsca-"

that's when she paused, and spun around with what was going down with Nox, this was getting intense as she immediately had her bow out at the ready, now they had a monster which they may need to kill then and there, while she understood the desire, she wasn't convinced that this was the best move risking that.

As Nox lunged toward Ruin in pursuit of taking him down, It would not take even a moment for the red-haired girl to notice her swiftly closing in. Soldi didn't need to be quick to position herself in front of Ruin before Nox's blade met his flesh. After all, she stood right next to him. She didn't want her brother to... Fall. Again. Not this time, after all, she was supposed to be the great village seer, Lady Ereike's apprentice. It was her role to protect the folk of these parts...

As Nox would begin to close in, her attack would--

.

.

?

Flutteringly. That was a word that could describe the feeling that Nox would feel and be engulfed within. Someone was awfully quick to notice the Vampire's antsiness. With an unmoving expression and a single hand, the lofty lady blew from that hand a fragrant pink powder. It was sweet like that of honey, and though it dazed the Vampire's thoughts to dumbness, it somehow enhanced her senses of the things around her.

She could feel the slightly frigid breeze that brushed upon her skin. The chirping songs of the birds perched upon the branches of the forest's trees. The buzzing of the bees as they dance around the anthers of the flowers. The stillness of the lake. The swaying of the grass. The chittering and clattering steps of the bugs? All those things would quickly pass Nox by as she'd be put out of the dumbing effects of the powder.

"The Moons pale to the Sun, blighting beings alike to the blighted." Her voice echoed. It wasn't gentle. It wasn't furious. Apathetic and unnerving. Her gaze did not consider Nox like the others at that moment. While she saw the others, the fae looked at Nox the same way she looked at the dead bodies of the bugs. Disgust stained her glassy eyes, not even reflecting Nox's form in them.

"Hither westward at once." Lady Ereike loudly commanded with eyes unglinting. She shook off her hand, dusting it onto her white dress.

Whatever the result may be, the group would be forced to continue onward. Heaths, in smaller beds, would frame the path with colourless petals. For the most part, the path into the forest would have seemed more like a stroll in a garden than a march down to destroy some much larger bug. However, this changed quite inherently once the group would notice a particular foul scent clouding the honey-like air.

The group would come upon... Three? No, there were Six of the... Upon closer inspection, there'd be nine bugs, all of which held a similar appearance to the bugs that had attacked them before, up ahead of the group. The creatures were close in a group and were seemingly tending to some sort of fleshy white bulbous beans. They were pulsating. Larvae? Yes, the bugs were tending to what seemed to be a cluster of Larvae. They hadn't seemed to notice the group yet, but if the group were to attack blindly and alert the bugs, the other bugs that were further ahead would also most likely be alerted.

From where they stood, they could make out other kinds of creatures as well, longer, more worm-like bugs and others, larger and much more tough-looking bugs, some had some sort of stingers on their rear, and others had a more proboscis type of mouth. There was a much larger silhouette which hid much further behind all these other variants.

~'Nox'~

1681070962877-png.1079750

Nox's attack was cut short when her senses were overwhelmed by the Seer's intervention. The dumbing of her thoughts relieved her of any intent to kill, her blade falling just short of the red-haired maiden who came to her 'brother's' aid. Though the blade still shimmered dimly in the light, Nox's grip on it made the blade ultimately useless, even had it connected nothing more than a light cut as a result of the blade edge itself would have resulted from the weak attempt at a blow. The pink power sedating Nox's primal urges. Drowning out the voice that lay within her mind.

Looking around, as the effects wained, Nox's eyes returned to their normal hue and her fangs retracted once more. Sheathing her sword the woman offered the apprentice a prompt bow of the head "I apologize, I lost myself for a moment there. I do not know what came over me, though hardly an excuse I hope you can accept my apology.". Nox didn't say much else, indeed the majority of the group had already made off for the target area anyway. Time was of the essence and the Seer had issued her order quite sternly. Though Hearing it for the first time this was indeed the second such time she had done so.

Sheathing her sword Nox adjusted her collar before moving westward as instructed. Though not before offering the Fey a word of her own in parting. The woman may have done her a favor in calming her urges but that didn't give her an excuse to act so high and mighty about it. Her words, her magic, her very being rubbed Nox the wrong way. "I thank you for restoring me to my senses. But putting that aside, you'd do well to remember that without the moons, the sun's light could never pierce the darkness of the night".

Nox's voice was polite in tone, but she spoke as she moved passed the woman. Refusing to look her in the eye, instead focusing on the path ahead. Nox could feel the distaste the woman had for her but it mattered little to her. After all, it wasn't as though she was all too pleased herself when she thought of how she needed to feast on beast and monster blood to survive in this new world. The distaste was understandable, but this was how her new body operated and for that, she would never apologize. At least she didn't need to dine on other humanoids like other vampires, she wasn't a monster.

As the group arrived at the nesting ground of the bugs, a horrific sight was placed before them. A group of nine bugs stood, tending to larvae. The stench was more putrid than before and the wriggling, pulsating motions those larvae exhibited was stomach-turning at the very least, downright revolting at best. Just what were these foul creatures? Why were they so disgusting in every way?

Looking on further the group of nine seemed to be standing between the team and what appeared to be more types of bugs and undoubtedly the brood mother. It seemed they had reached the source but taking down all these bugs would be no easy task. Some sort of strategy would need to be put in place given the advantage in numbers those bugs had over the group. Not to mention the armor those exoskeletons provided.

"Jareth, you should cast your spell from earlier on that group of bugs. The swirling sand spell tears away at their armor and traps them within. The rest of us then should back up. Shael you can then take care of them from a distance, taking advantage of their impaired movement and damaged exoskeletons. Once the spell subsides I can move in to deal with the remaining members of the weakened group as a whole. Conner and Arkh, you two can provide support then. Conner, you protect Shael. Arkh and Jareth, once I move in to tidy up what remains of those initial nine you two should move forward to limit test those new variants ahead of us. It's not perfect but it's a plan. Any objections?"

Jareth Fletcher
| Human | Eyeglass Adept | Ryken Adventurer F | Sandman | Comrade | Sun-Kissed |

Night obscured the once familiar interior of the cottage where Jareth resided with his parents. He was younger then--his fourth birthday having come and gone only a month prior. He was in his bed lying very still, painfully still, motionless as a corpse in an attempt to feign sleep. His mother had woken up crying again--as she did from time to time--and his father, after checking to see if she had woken their son, had pulled her into an embrace, gently rocking her and whispering words of encouragement and comfort to her.

To be sure, there was nothing normal about his mother's nights of distress. Jareth knew something must be wrong, but he could never get his parents to divulge the details. On previous nights where he had asked if mommy was ok, his father reassured him that all was fine and bid him to go back to sleep. Meanwhile, daddy and mommy would go for a midnight stroll. Just as daddy said, mommy would be fine the next morning when Jareth awoke and nothing more would be said about the night before.

This night, however, being full of the wisdom and cunning that young boys tend to develop around his age, Jareth would pull off his charade with passing marks, effectively fooling his parents into a false sense of security. There in hushed tones, he heard for the first time his parents speaking cryptically about her frightful visions. Through her hushed weeping, his mother would begin to speak of the things she saw--both this night and many nights before.

"The mounds again?" said father.

"Yes." mother gasped. "So many piles! As if that weren't bad enough, I could still hear muffled crying...and as I walked between them, I tried to shut my eyes. I tried to look away! But it was as if my eyes were forced to look on them. Then..." she stumbles for words as she shudders into her husband's shoulder for a moment, "...then...just before waking, I...it was as if I was forced to look on a particular pile and...and...I saw him! I saw our baby boy in one of those godforsaken piles!"

It wouldn't be a stretch to make the claim that this night was the beginning of Jareth's anxious nature. He didn't know the full extent of the horrors his mother was forced to face in her dreams, but it would only be a handful of years before he wouldn't have to imagine anymore. When the cult abducted him after killing his parents, he saw the mounds for himself: piles upon piles of corpses, mostly children about his age, though there was one pile specifically of infants. Many nights after that ordeal were spent waking himself while trying to wrench free of a mound of bodies clutching and pulling at him.

jareth particle armor.jpgThe sand had stopped flaking as Jareth's figure became solid once more. His heavy steps flattened the earth under him as he marched into the forest, occasionally causing casualties among the decorative flora in his path. The instectoid chittering would gradually reach his ears as he drew near. Jareth raised his arm bearing the sewing needle catalyst in preparation.

Upon coming into line of sight with the creatures, he was poised to attack if necessary but waited for the others to catch up. It was this waiting period that would be Jareth's undoing. As he watched the bugs moving to and fro, he would become aware of the squirming masses they tended. The connection wasn't instantaneous. He beheld the very alien form of the insectoids interacting with the writhing pupae with no reaction.

That was when he saw it: one of the nurse insects approached a cluster of larvae and reached an arm to one of the larvae to adjust it or otherwise minister to it. The appendages of the grub clasped the limb of the nurse as a child might grip a finger stuck into its hand. From there Jareth's imagination plunged into a chaotic spiral summoning several related images until it had unearthed his childhood nightmares.

The black sand began to agitate across the surface of Jareth's body. Large patches shivered and fell away then weakly tried to regenerate. The hand holding his catalyst began to tremble. His posture slackened and his stance lost its surety. A choking sound issued from his mouth as he coughed a thick cloud of sand into the air, causing half of the blackened armor to fall away exposing his face beneath. His eye was wide, the pupil a mere pinprick in the sea of white around it. A moment later, the rest of the black sand followed suit, dropping away to reveal his natural form.

Though dispersed from its armor state, the black sand swirled around Jareth as he visibly struggled to maintain composure. He suddenly reversed his grip and thrust it into his chest, causing the black sand to swarm Jareth as his form melted into a pool of black sand.

Shael had felt particularly tense in the moment that Solidi had gotten in the way to protect her 'brother' even if the fae now knew that most definitely was not the girl's brother, it was no less alarming when Nox was at risk of striking her down. Thankfully Lady Ereike stopped things from progressing into a tragedy and Nox had apologized, and what she said in response was..fitting, Shael enjoyed the fact that Nox had effectively conveyed the moon's worth for to Shael it was of great importance being a Lune Elf.

As they reached the group of insects, Shael got a good look at exactly what they were dealing with and it unfortunately did not look like it was going to be a stroll in the park. There were nine of the things out and about already, and beyond that there was something even larger which Shael much like Nox could only assume was a queen of sorts perhaps, if these were anything like the sorts of insects that inhabited the See at least with how they organized their society.

In some ways Shael almost felt bad having to kill these insects, it wasn't their fault that they were created this way. Their primary objective was to kill and survive while furthering their own species, it seemed unlikely that monsters like these had high enough intellect to actually enjoy the killing they were committing so it was unlikely it was sadistic rather a survival method for them of kill or be killed, and find food by whatever means necessary. Unfortunately for the insects however they were attacking settlements rather than other monsters which meant that they had to be eliminated as far as Shael was concerned.

Shael hadn't quite been suspecting that Nox would have a plan formulated on the fly like that, with how quiet she had been earlier when Shael was around, it was pleasantly surprising as it sounded like a good one too.

"No objections."

Shael replied, affirming she would take part, not that there was a ton of options. They couldn't exactly stay there forever and not act it was only a matter of time until an insect was acting up. She was concerned when Jareth struggled and shifted state, but there wasn't really anything she could do about that at the moment.

"Engaging." She announced to the group to let them know she was going to start shooting.

Shael promptly moved back 40 ft as quickly as she could in response to Jareth's shift before she figured she should enact her role in the plan, presuming that others were going to move out of the way too.

Shael then used Stealth Shot on Insect #6, attempting to aim and strike any perceived vulnerabilities from what she learned or any revealed after the sand attack.

1. Move back 40 ft.
2. Use Stealth Shot F on Insect #6.

Stealth Shot - Stealth F, Steady Hands F
Shael attempts to aim and take a shot at her target while undetected by being stealthy. Grade F - 0 post cooldown.

Horrified. That was what would be an accurate description of what Connor immediately felt the moment he laid his eyes on what is presumably the bug nest, the heart of the invasion they are fighting. A huge gathering of not just the same type of bugs that they have been defending the village from earlier, but new and unfamiliar ones as well. Creatures of vastly different shapes and sizes, yet common in the fact that they are all terrifying, alien, and disgusting. The writhing larvae that can be seen from where they are, where there are gaps in the large group seemingly tending to them, makes Connor feel sick.

“This is terrible…”

Even more sickening is thinking about the fact that every single one of these will eventually mature into more dangerous insectoid monsters. When that happens, what then? Not just Haeddre Village, will this continue growing into a larger and larger problem until it becomes even more difficult to control? They need to take care of this now.

Rooted in place, Connor had no real choice but to lean on the guidance from the others that would be more experienced than him. Right now, it seems like Nox took the initiative to play this role. Keeping an eye on the gathering of creatures in front of him, he listened to her as she laid out an initial plan. Silently nodding in acknowledgement once orders were given out, he watched as Shael immediately sprang into action, creating some distance and letting loose on the insects. Connor at least agreed that he should focus on supporting the others for now, and opts to hang back a little and stick to helping Shael focus on her job as intended [1].

Shael's attack on the bug was successful, her arrow pierced the middle of its head, causing its exoskeleton to shatter and crack, exposing what was beneath. Her arrow also successfully wounded the bug, however, it was not enough to end its life entirely. The bug moved backwards, retorting in what seemed to be a pain as it shrieked loudly. Alerting the other bugs around it.

They quickly turned around, alerted by the noise. The seventh and second bug quickly dashed forward lunging at Nox violently. Following their pursuit, the fifth and third bugs went to attack Jareth while the fourth and first bugs went to attack Arkham. Their attacks all seemed homogeneous, It probably wasn't the best idea to block the assaults with your face. They would probably [Penetrate] right through.

On the other hand, it seemed that the 8th and 9th bugs were skittering to move the Larvae to another area, while the 6th bug was trying to ready itself again. "H- Huh!? Uh...! What do I do?!" Solidi shouted from behind, watching as Everyone seemingly got into position. She wasn't prepared for this and she really lacked any fighting capabilities so it was tough to figure out what to even do. How could she assist?

Watching Arkham, Jareth and Nox being attacked made her worried, and thus she'd decided to help in the only she knew she could. Quickly she took out an oddly glinting goldenrod flower, spun it around and held it up, waving it like a glowstick at a concert. "Oi!! Don't just stand there all still! Get outta the way!" She'd shout quite brashly, the flower glowing in a bright yellow.

Arkham, Jareth and Nox would feel a slight bit warm. Something in them changed, they suddenly felt... Lighter? Faster? One of the two, but somehow, they would feel a little bit more nimble. [For ONE of their posts, Arkham, Jareth and Nox's speed is raised by ONE grade.]

The black sand had collapsed into a small mound--all that remained of Jareth's prone figure. He had sank down onto all fours as the black sand consumed him. His body of flesh had broken up and disintegrated into the particulate. The vague shapes of his limbs flailing along the ground could be seen.

The sand appeared to crawl, but the form was not made for mobility. Even as Solidi's magic enhanced him, Jareth's uncertain motions could not propel him very far. As such, the insects caught up with him.

Despite the bug's size, it could not eat Jareth in one bite. But which is worse: to be swallowed whole and die slowly in the belly of the beast or to be ripped apart, suffering much pain, but entering your grave already dead?

The insects were over him now. They were launching an attack. Jareth would not be able to dodge. He could not muster his armor like this either. Would they kill him? Would they toy with him or finish him quick? Would it hurt?

What was it all for anyway...?

Now that the bugs are alerted, Connor is able to take a few moments as to examine the situation as the fight started to begin in earnest. The bugs, seemingly simplistic in nature, instantly lunged for the nearest threats immediately. Nearly every single one are focusing all of their attention on the three people in front. What he didn’t quite think of however was the fact that some are now actually acting to protect the larvae and moving away from the fight.

Cursing his inexperience, Connor felt unable to do anything considerable to help aside from waiting for the right opportunity. Now calming himself and focusing on the current circumstances, he watched as Jareth started to more and more turn into black sand. The apparent lack of immediate action confused Connor, but presuming it to be in preparation of some sort of counter for the bugs, he decided to move forward a little bit more. Considering the situation, being ahead of Solidi and more immediately behind the three people at the frontlines would be great place to offer support once there is a chance [1].

Actions:
[1] - Move to be behind Arkh, Jareth, and Nox

Arkham Koenig

Arkham was left quite shocked once they arrived on the scene. He had no particular fear of bugs, and yet, he wound the sight before him unpleasant. Disgusting, even. There was a lot of work to be done, so the faster the better. He didn't even finished that thought when most of the nearby bugs lunged at their front line. It was clear that two of them were coming for him. Both doing their signature stab strike.

With a deep breath, he readied himself to counter. Using his sword, Arkham would use his strength to try to redirect the first bug's spear legs to be close enough towards the lagging one's head along with his sword. Not that their attacks weren't all that coordinated, he just used the simplicity of the attack and their slight distance away from him to his advantage. (1+2)

Then, while the other bug was knee deep in its fellow bug's head, for his own good that is. Arkham grabbed his sword in the middle of the blade and thrusted at the head of his second target. (half-swording is the name of that technique. It makes sense, I swear)(3)

The distance Shael moved had been very much influenced by her initial reaction of an intense situation between Jareth spazzing out which would have no doubt alerted the insects any way, so it was in her best interest to strike first she had thought, but now she was perhaps a bit farther away than she'd like, with all of them fighting it wouldn't hurt for her to get a bit closer so that she could reengage the enemy easier, while still keeping a safe enough distance for herself. This was the best she could really do after all. Her hand to hand combat skills were not yet refined despite having a dagger so she figured she would continue to fulfill the support role she was in currently.

The fact that her shot hadn't been an instant kill meant that that insect was still of interest for her to finish off, feeling a greater urgency to spring into action with how dicey things were getting with the insects attacking the line of adventurers. Part of her wished that Solidi had some kind of offensive magic to use rather than whatever buff that had been, as she watched onward, if she had it her way, the youth would have been put else where so she was safe, but at this point away from her 'brother' was deemed the route to take apparently.

The first course of action was getting into a more ideal position, so Shael moved 20 feet straight toward the insects and group. She then readied her bow yet again with another Lunen arrow. The insects did not seemed to be super focused on her, so she felt like there was a good chance she could get another move off which was similar to last time. There wasn't a ton of time to think about how they were going to deal with this many or what to do about Jareth, they just had to act and kill these insects as swiftly as possible.

After moving she aimed and took another shot with Stealth Shot with the insects preoccupied, aiming for #6 yet again, aiming for the exposed spot that she had created from before, thinking thinning the second row of bugs could help.

1. Move forward 20 ft.
2. Use Stealth Shot F on Insect #6 toward new vulnerable point created in armor.

Stealth Shot - Stealth F, Steady Hands F
Shael attempts to aim and take a shot at her target while undetected by being stealthy. Grade F - 0 post cooldown.
