As they stepped out into another clearing, Cassidy's expression was taken aback by the various mutilated corpses that littered the forest floor.

"What in Hells Blazes is this carnage?" he cursed under his breath, feeling as if his lower jaw was about to pop off. He'd seen much death back in his time, even a time where a rival gang killed every last cow upon a rancher's land for failing to pay off his debt, but this grizzly scene was straight out of a butcher's slaughterhouse. No kind of animal he knew, both here and then, would even be capable of this much bloodshed. Yet he wouldn't need to look far to see what he assumed was the culprit.

What lain before them, this devil incarnate, was a reptilian beast unlike anything the cowboy had ever seen alive. Key word being alive. He had seen skeletal forms of similar looking creatures back on Earth, their bones being dug out from the ground and put into museums. What were these terrible lizards called again? Dinas? Dions? No, wait... dinosaurs. That sounded right. He aw a few dig sites with his own eyes while riding through the deserts with his possy, with the states of Utah, Colorado, and Arizona being particular hotspots of activity. They've been dead for eons, long before modern man. Or if they did live alongside men, they certainly don't no more.

But here is one now. A living breathing example of these ancient beasts from long ago. And it's quite the monster. Huge horns, big teeth, an armored back of silver, and sported sharp meat-hooked claws on both its three fingers. Despite the deadness within its blank yellow eyes, as well as sporting several major injuries, the creature was still very much alive and kicking in a savage fit of unbridled rage. It was just itching to kill something... and while it seemed not to notice them just yet, the cowboy knew what had to be done next.

Eris suggested they aim for the creature's legs, to which Cassidy nodded in agreement. "Good call." he astutely replied, before quickly drawing his revolver and fired [Accurate F] four shots at the creatures' legs; two bullets per limb; one at the thigh and one by the calf.

Both the hunter's strikes were true. As big and powerful as this beast was, it wasn't able to dodge the holy magic nor the bullets that sunk into it's legs, doing considerable damage to it's already wounded appendages. The beast fell to the ground with a mighty crash, but it was far from over. Because Eris had to move closer for her spell to take affect, she would notice the grotesque injuries the metallic monster inflicted on itself as it continued to thrash about, slamming it's body and clawing with it's forearms like a rabid beast. it kept trying to stand up despite injuries, resulting in it breaking it's own legs as it continued to flail towards Eris. While it's crippled state prevented it from moving particularly fast, it was still writhing with such ferocity that it was nearly impossible to get close to it without inadvertently being struck by a stray limp or debris. Indeed, Eris herself would've been peppered by rubble and stones kicked up by the beast's rampage. At least it seems like it's mobility was cut down thanks to the wounds on it's legs.

But things only went from bad to worse as the creature began to hurl anything it could reach towards the two. Stones, gore, claw fulls of dirt. It was still moving towards them and showed no signs of stopping despite the injuries getting even worse. But upon closer examination, they would see that it's not blood that bleeds from the beast's wounds: it was some sort of crimson worm that rapidly dug itself into the ground where it fell. Indeed underneath it's flesh it pulsated as if there was something inside trying to get out, or trying to control the madden monster. The wounds inflicted onto it certain did it no favors in controlling the body, with Eris's spell in particular leaving part of it notably burning.

Eris watched as her strike made contact with the creature it toppled over itself. From her distance, she could see injuries the creature obtained from its previous fights. As the creature tired to stand back up she heard the sickening sound of its legs snapping. She wasn't sure what was going on here most creatures would have stayed still. But this one just seemed to keep on moving despite its injuries which she found strange.

Bringing her hand up to shield her eyes form the rocks and dirt that were kicked up, she saw still slowly making its way toward the group. Taking this as a note, she moved further back to create some distance between her and the beast. Still feeling slightly drained from her last spell, she noticed the worms seeping out from the creature. "I think I know what is causing this ramage; there are worms of some kind coming out of the creature," Eris pointed out as she waited to see what would happen next.

Both her magic and his bullets were more than enough to topple the abominable menace to its knees. Yet Cassidy was mildly surprised that it went down this quick. Part of him seemed relieved, while another was left disappointed. Was this all the monster had to offer them? Even so, he could see it wasn't over just yet. The beast still flailed on the ground like a ravenous rabid animal, struggling in vain to get back on his clawed feet. Desperation could do the damnest to a creature on death's door, but this was... unusual. From the wounds sustained and the jerky motions, something about this thing looked and felt truly... demonic. Hellish. Never had he seen a dying creature act like this; nor would he want to let it writhe consciously as it was doing further.

He watched cautiously as Eris made her way closer to the reptilian monster, finding himself stretch out his hand towards her out of instinct.

"Careful lass," he called with experienced caution, "It may be down, but a wounded creature's more dangerous than it looks!"

And indeed, the creature began furiously throwing everything at them with wild and unbridled disregard. From dirt to rocks, even loose bits of gore, were tossed at them alongside anything else it got its claws on. Cassidy rose his arm to deflect any sticks and stones that came his way, his clothing's thick cloth protecting his bones from breaking against some of the large debris. When he peaked through, he'd see the priest having a magically shield around her. That's certainly one way to protect oneself. Yet being closer to the beast, Eris commented on how the beast was infected with some kind of worm parasite. Cassidy didn't notice their presence before, but upon giving a close look, he too would notice the crimson strings that emerged from the wounded orifices.

"Well I be damned," the gunslinger remarked with visible disgust.

It was certainly a gruesome sight to behold and an all round terrible fate to be the puppets of such vile, disgusting organisms. But how to kill them, if guns and magic alone wouldn't do the job? The answer would come with an astute observation, as Cassidy glanced at the burning part of the monster's flesh, which must've came from Eris' spell. Whether or not it was intentional, it gave him an idea.

"Hol' up just a minute." Cassidy called out, lowering his gun while raising for a smoke.

The process of lighting his cigarette would take a few seconds, as the cowboy took puff of tobacco into his boney under-form. It was a long and deep puff, the whole butt of the cigarette already smoldering to ash and embers. As the smoke exhaled from his orifices, Cassidy smirked as he flicked it towards the writhing beast, as vague orange light still cackled from within the burnt end. Just as it was about to hit the beast, Cassidy drew his revolver in the blink of an eye and proceeded to unload his entire clip of hot magical lead straight the beast [Fan-Ham E]. While he expected most to hit the monster in front of him, he made sure at least one bullet was fired straight at the burning cigarette; his goal to set the beast on fire with the fast force of lead and hot ash striking against the creature's flesh.

"Lez' set these fuckers ablaze!" Cassidy shouted with riveting excitement, ready to commit live arson upon Hell's unholy spawns.

The beast moved closer, foot by foot, inch by inch. The beast rose onto both feet, despite the broken leg, and was going to crush Eris beneath it's mass. But then Cassidy fired multiple bullets into it. All of them landed, but most of them didn't seem to invoke any reaction from the beast, except the one that struck his cigarette. It was a tiny amount of ash and sparks, barely enough to hurt a normal person if it wasn't attached to a bullet. But when it struck the best, catching ashes onto the worms, the beast began to burn. Around the wound a great flame would burst, and something stranger around happen to the beast.

The monster began to convulse and fell backwards. The section of flesh that was burning was... Sliced off, but some sort of massive claw, from within the beast. The burning chunk of meat was thrown at the duo and from the gaping wound was a massive red mass of flesh and blood. But as fast as it came, it ran, far faster than the beast it possessed. It was fortunate that the area was devoid of trees and the moon was high, because the two could see the dark red mass run away in a grotesque manner of appendages and tendrils. It looks like it was fleeing towards the river. The group would need to move quickly to catch it, or try to shoot it while it's running. However it seems far more agile here than it did within the now desiccated beast corpse.

Eris glanced over at the gunslinger with a look of disgust as the worm-like creature grossed her out. "You don't have to tell me twice though we are going to need to hurry up and catch up to it!" Eris replied back as she looked back over as the creature started to move away though it made no sense to her how it was still going. Though she supposed there was something off about the whole creature in general.

She snapped her fingers as the beast clawed off the part of the body that was on fire. "Book of Evitius verses 3-9. For those who do not look upon the light, there shall be fire. A fire that will cleanse the soul or remove it from the cycle. For it is us the clergy of our goddess' faith that stand at the bearers of the torch. For that torch is the salvation and the executioner, for I sentence you to be judged by her holy flames!" Eris recited as she aimed for the head of the creature this time. She didn't want the thing to get away from him and that seemed like the best way to stop it hopefully.

Cassidy cheered as the abominable menace was set aflame by his well-placed shot. He thought this was it; that the monster of these woods was going to be burned alive to the darkest pits of Hell. However, his howls of joy soon turned to muted horror once the beast began to transform. It fell over, convulsed violently, and from the chaos the gunslinger quickly realized that the burnt wound had been sliced away. It took a moment for him to process what happened.

Clever... Mindless and bloody, but clever in a pinch.

That's when he noticed the hunk of scorched flesh was lobbed straight in their direction, causing Cassidy to quickly side-step to the side in a swift motion. Nearly caught him off-guard with that one. Just as he took a shot in the beast's direction, he'd just be able to glimpse the horrid thing rush into the bush. He couldn't get a good eye on it as it fled, even with dark vision, but he swore that the thing had changed forms. It's color was different, like a dark maroon red, and he swore he saw waving things coming out of it!

"Were those~?" the cowboy stuttered hesitantly with disgust before growling the thought out of his head, "Ahhhh hell, now I've seen everythin!"

This thing - whatever it was - didn't seem to be just a killer reptile high on parasites on the loose. Something sinister was happening; and Jebidiah didn't like it one bit. Again, he tried to fire off a few more shots in its direction, while seeing it rush towards the river nearby. They needed to strike quickly while they were on the offensive, but not give too much to be lured into a trap.

"Lez get to it while the night's young!"

Rushing after it, Cassidy proceeded to try and keep his advantageable vision on the beast's location, while continuing to fire a couple more shot's near the creature's upper torso and head if possible.

Fire and steel proved to be effective against the monster, with divine flames burning literal chunks out of the beast. However aiming for it's head was difficult, given that it appeared to be some sort of amorphous mass of flesh and gore. The bullets also ripped holes into the beast, causing it to loose much of it's mass as the flesh tore from the body. From the remains the flesh turned into more parasites that burrowed into the ground, leaving behind mangled remains and blood. The beast looked notably smaller now, but in the process was much more swift. As fast as a hare and just as big it looked like it was about to make it to the river until Cassidy's bullet managed to find it's mark, blowing up what was left of the remains. The parasites that made up the mass scattered, diving into any cracks and crevice they could fit into. Just as fast as it started, the beast seemed to be slain... And with nothing to show for it, beyond the mutilated remains of the previous metal-plated beasts.

The night was silent. Not even the sound of insects could be heard, only the distant bubbling of the river and the occasional breeze of the wind. With night fully fallen, the only thing illuminating the area was the moon, and with the heavy cloud cover tonight even that was occasionally gone to blanket the world in darkness. The duo have survived their first encounter with the beast, but it seems like after it had torn itself out from the body of the beast it had inhabited, it tried to run away. And so far it doesn't seem like it's alive, but there were still some of the parasites that were writhing from the wounds of the bigger beast. Though only from the wounds inflicted by Cassidy, as the there were no movements coming from the burn wounds inflicted by Eris.

Eris watched as the creature got smaller and took off, biting down on her teeth as it seemed to take off. She was rather annoyed the thing was still able to move so fast despite both of them doing damage to the beast. Though she wasn't even sure if you could call the creature a beast from the looks of it all. When the gunslinger shot the beast and it dropped she let out a sigh.

Though she knew that she had to be careful as she continued to approach the beast to see if she could figure out what was causing the whole thing. She figured the parasites probably had something to do with it though she wasn't sure to what extent or what was going on entirely. "Well it looks like the beast is down for the count, though there isn't much left except for the parasites now." Eris stated as she paused for a moment. "Though Fire seems to scare them away," She pointed out turning back to look at the gunslinger.
