OOC: We will be keeping a 2 day post frequency per round. The rp is expected to last a lil over a month. Ask any and all questions. At present it is a free for all as far as who posts when so long as it is done within the post period. First round may be stretched a bit as folks sort out what they are doing and how they are coming in. Out of combat, action economy will be ignored, but be mindful to play within character limits otherwise. Some abilities are better for ignoring cooldowns than others. I repeat: ask any and all questions. Multiple posts per round are possible and acceptable when not waiting on something from the world (me) or Malik (also me). Do not wait on others to post unless you have directly told them you are waiting on them and they have told you they will post. Anyone getting skipped is no one's fault but their own.
Time: Morning
Weather: warm with a cool breeze that promises to get warmer over the course of the day. the tree canopy would offer some shade from the sun but also make the air more stagnant
Cooldown:
TLDR: Opening narration. Characters are gathered in a group with other groups outside the Forest of Shadows. First task to go inside and find the relics that have been left for them to find. All manner of tests may be laying in wait aside from other rival parties.

Ryke - Forest of Shadows

1686025466825.png

In this chapter of Isekai Hell, a whispering wind danced across the verdant expanse of Ryke, carrying stories of distant lands and echoing through the valleys. Four distinct figures meandered along the trail leading to Ryken, the capital of this rich, vibrant realm. Each held an invitation adorned with the majestic seal of the Logia Academy, a tantalizing hint of the opportunities that lay before them.

First among them was Malik, a half-elf illusionist with gleaming eyes full of determination, ready to stake his claim in the Adventurer's Guild. Alongside him was Glacier, the ice fox, its ethereal form shimmering with a cold aura, driven by a desire to harness its powers. Naomi, a young girl teeming with raw magical potential, walked with them, her heart set on joining the Academy and weaving her influence among Ryken's high society. Lastly, Jason strolled along, a unique figure with an entourage of bugs trailing in his wake, eager to expand his peculiar cohort.

As distinct as their ambitions were, a shared goal had brought them together: the Arcane Proving Grounds of the Logia Academy. This event, held at irregular intervals, was a gateway to fame and fortune, offering a chance to those daring enough to face its challenges. Their invitations, as varied as their dreams, were their tickets to this opportunity.

The edge of the Forest of Shadows marked the beginning of their journey. Known for its enchanting yet deceptive charm and enigmatic creatures, the forest was their first trial. Deep within its heart lay a hidden artifact, a relic of ancient magic, shrouded by the forest's guardians.

As they neared the forest's entrance, a palpable tension intermingled with their mounting excitement. The trees towered ominously, their leaves forming a sprawling canopy that splintered sunlight into a tapestry of dappled shadows. The forest's silence was occasionally broken by the rustle of leaves and the soft hush of a distant breeze.

They were not alone in their quest. Other groups of hopefuls, eager to prove their mettle and seize their destiny, had gathered at the forest's edge. Competition was as much a part of the Proving Grounds as the trials themselves. It was a game of both skill and chance, where the clever and the brave had as much to lose as they had to gain.

As they stepped over the threshold into the hushed stillness of the forest, they were united by a shared sense of purpose. The Proving Grounds offered them not just a test of their abilities, but also a chance to shape their own futures. The choices they made, the paths they took, and the alliances they formed would be the deciding factors in their success.

Their adventure had begun.

Māo had a small issue with blacking out for days, sometimes weeks at a time and find herself in more sticky situations than she’d like to admit. She always agrees to the most ludicrous stuff when she’s drunk. So holding an invitation in her hand, she had thought it was something she pickpocketed off some sucker in the streets, but lo and behold it was addressed to her. That was a nice change of pace.

Māo wasn’t exactly familiar with the event in question, but the beginning was marked as the ‘Forest of Shadows’, which gave her enough context clues to have some kind of idea what she was going into. She had the perfect plan.

The first thing she did when arriving was pick out a small group, and practically shoved her way in. She learned their names and got a general idea of what they were all about. Māo kept idly talking to them every so often as they waited patiently, trying to distract from the fact that she was unarmed and unprepared.

Deep breath in. Deep breath out.

“Okay.”

Naomi was the third candidate to join the party at the edge of the forest. Alongside her stood an elf, a talking ice fox, a boy who controlled a squad of giant insects and a… very scantily clad woman. They were each not only her partners, but thorough reminders of two important things. The first was a reminder that she was no longer in the world she once knew.

The second was a reminder of how little she knew about the creatures that might’ve been lurking in the forest just ahead of them.

“Um, hello everyone! My name’s Naomi. Naomi Plumfoot.”

She went around and offered a hand to each of them to shake, kneeling down to take Glacier’s paw when she got to him.

“Our quest is to locate some relics in the woods, right? Does anyone have any ideas on how to get started and narrow down the search?”

An open question for any of them. Beyond the location where their journey would begin, the objective, and the fact that they were working in teams, Naomi had very little information to work with here. She did have a few assumptions, though.

“My initial thoughts are that, if this is a test set up by the school, then they’ve probably left us some tracks or breadcrumbs that we’re meant to find. So we really just need to stick together and keep an eye out for any signs or landmarks that stand out. Treat it like the test that it is.”

Truthfully, Naomi had no idea what the relics they were supposed to find would even look like. For now, she was just doing her best to think like an examiner and share her thoughts so that the group could make a solid plan.

“But that’s just me. How do you guys think that we should approach this?”

Naomi ( Gwen_Temi Gwen_Temi ), Jason ( Eccentric_Undead Eccentric_Undead ), & the rest of the group ( Novama Novama , SoftSmile SoftSmile ).

As they walked, Glacier silently mulled over how he got here. He had been traveling the land, typically avoiding any large settlements, content to learn more about the people of this place from a distance. However, the largest city he had seen -Ryke, he now knew- simply captivated him so much, that he went to get a closer look. Evidently, he must have been quickly spotted, as a curious mage -of quite high standing- approached him. After a brief conversation, the mage handed him an invitation, which he confusedly accepted.

That led Glacier to here, at the edge of a forest, in search of a relic, with a group made of odd people. One of which was himself, of course; he did not wish to be a hypocrite.

Glacier turned his head towards the new arrival, who introduced herself as Naomi, shaking her hand when she reached him; at least, as much as he could with a paw of solid ice.
"My name is Glacier... it is a pleasure to meet you, Naomi Plumfoot." He listened to her proposal and question. "Your logic is reasonable... anything out of place could be a clue." Turning around, he faced the rest of the group. "Is there anything we can do to make our efforts more effective... or are we limited to simply walking and searching?" Looking at the one controlling a swarm of bugs, he spoke further. "...perhaps your bugs could be of use?" Glacier previously ignored the bugs for the most part, as he preferred not the think about them, but they had the potential to be useful in this scenario.

Jason wasn't too sure about this event. All of this was a bit much. Maybe it was because he wasn't used to having people around. People tended to avoid him due to the insects. He knew that a following of human sized bugs wasn't exactly the most inviting sight. Not to mention the fact that he had a knack for attracting almost every insect in an area. Given the fact that they were in a forest, and he was surrounded by a swarm of different insects. Despite the fact that there was a little bit of a buzzing around him, he seemed completely content. Admiring the beauty of the insects that landed on his fingers.

He stopped, looking at the group as they began to ponder of how they would find The relic. What really caught his interest was the fact that they were now wondering if his bugs would be better to find it. He put his arms in front of him, hiding them within his sleeves and smiling at this odd group "I will admit that spreading my bugs around would be a much faster method, but the problem is they would have no clue what they're looking for. If they could see what the relic looks like or possibly know a vague idea of what it looks like, then maybe they could be of some assistance. Unfortunately, while I love them dearly, they aren't exactly hunting dogs."

A smile worked across his face as he saw his little insects scuttle around and finally stop at him. A chuckle left him as they sat there, skittering a little bit to the themselves. A clear sign that they were expecting some sort of affection. It was odd to see this man kneel down and gently pet each one of these massive insects. How could somebody be so doting upon human sized bugs? To be honest, it was adorable in a way.

Jason was almost positive they would run into some danger, so as he was kneeled down, a Vilpincer skittered up his back, underneath his clothing. It gently wrapped its legs around him, it's massive pincer tail still hanging out and clicking. It kind of made him look like he had a tail himself. He stood up, smiling a bit as he looked to the group "I may be able to do something." Jason stepped towards the group, turning around and smiling at his bugs "Take defensive positions."

The massive insects wasted no time. The Crypticrawlers moved to the front, spreading out in front with about 5 ft of space between them. The four Vilpincer's took to the sides, making sure to guard them well. The caustic spitters spread out around, making a sort of bubble around the group. Giving them good range. Jason looked back to the group with a smile, the damage on the left side of his body very clear on his face "If you happen to find anything suspicious, I can send them to investigate."

Ivy had her doubts when she entered the forest of shadows. A few days ago, a mysterious figure dressed in black had slipped a letter of invitation into her pockets. She didn't think the figure was an official at the Logia academy. After all, an official wouldn't have the need to disguise himself and go about things so shadily, would he? Besides, no one else should have known about her powers yet. Her power of mind control... She had been withholding it back all this while, thinking that it was taboo here. But now that she had accepted the invitation to enter the trial, perhaps she would be forced to make use of it later. Then just why did she accept the invitation in the first place?! Well..... she felt like it could be a great start to a brand new adventure, but didn't really consider anything else.

Oh well! No point worrying about such things now. She was surrounded by all sorts of magicians anyway, and all of them probably had more dangerous magic than her. Who knows? She could just be overthinking things up till now.

The girl took a glance between the other members of her group. A man who commanded an army of giant insects, a strange fox made of ice, a woman dressed in very revealing clothing and a bright and cheery lady. The ice fox puzzled her, as she had never seen anything like it before. It looked very beautiful too! But even more surprising was the man who seemed to adore the massive bugs. After having lived on the streets for so long, she had grown to be accustomed of being around insects, but they were still annoying pests to her.

When the cheery girl came over, Ivy would shake her hand with a warm smile. "Nice to meet you Naomi, I'm Ivy."

Turning to the man who commanded the bugs, she'd throw out a random suggestion. "Hmm, maybe you could instruct them to spot anything that stands out in this forest. Like looking out for some symbols inscribed on a tree, or something glowing? Or put more simply, look out for anything that's not tree or grass."

Standing right at the edge of the Forest of Shadows, Orrius couldn’t help but to feel nervous about today. This was the first ever ‘entrance exam’ he had ever undertaken, and if he succeeded, he could possibly attend a prestigious magic school. The mere thought of it made him smile gleefully, but it also further accelerated his heart rate.

“Keep calm…” He told himself, as he took a couple of deep breaths trying to maintain his composure. But his nerves just wouldn’t calm down. Just then, a lady from his group called Naomi went around shaking hands with everyone.

That was when Orrius realized something. If she shook his clammy hands now, wouldn’t she mock him for being sweaty and weird? Orrius quickly shoved his hands into his pocket, and when she requested a handshake he would brush her off without even looking at her. “The name’s Orrius.” Even though he had used a cold tone when replying to her, he didn’t mean to be rude. It was just the nerves getting to the poor boy.

When the group would continue discussing their strategy, Orrius listened attentively to their conversation and brainstormed his own ideas. However, his abilities didn’t really seem to work that well here. Sure he could possibly blow up most of the trees in the area and level the entire place, but that would be way too drastic. And who knows? That might reveal the relic locations to the other groups, and he just couldn’t risk doing that. Or even worse, he could end up destroying all the relics, or he could fail the test immediately for ruining this beautiful forest.

The young boy could feel himself getting a headache thinking about the consequences of using his abilities inappropriately.

“Hmmm, before that, does anyone here have navigation skills? We should probably head deeper in but it’d be bad if we got lost and end up walking in circles.” Orrius spoke his thoughts aloud.

Off to the side an armored red-haired woman had her foot propped against a log, listening to the conversation as she tightened the straps of her greaves. One wouldn't think that a blacksmith would be going on an adventure like this, but it ends up that smithing didn't pay very well, especially when you didn't have your own shop. So if Tannia wanted to make any money she was going to need to take some side jobs. Hence why she had accepted the letter's invitation to this event and teamed up with this group of kids she had only met the other day. (Although she currently wasn't much older than them.) It also gave her a chance to field test her new armor. So far she was noticing a few tight spots, not enough to cause a problem but still something she wanted to fix.

Giving the leg piece one last tug to make sure it wasn't going anywhere, Tannia stepped back and joined the gathering. "I suspect it won't be that hard to navigate, but it is a good question" She responded to Orrius, one of the party members she hadn't met. "Only thing I can offer is moss growing to the north sadly."

"Tannia, by the way."

Malik Seraphim stood amidst his newfound companions, the weight of his catalyst—a violet crystal shaped like a flower—resting comfortably in the palm of his hand. He was tall, his height an impressive stature amongst his group, but there was a gentleness to him that contradicted his size. Around him, the forest throbbed with an ancient rhythm, a secret beat that was whispering, beckoning him to explore. It was much like the forests of his old world (what few forests remained), yet something about it was decidedly alien.

Their gathering was a colorful mix of beings: warriors, mages, and rogues, all representing a diverse range of races and backgrounds. The air buzzed with the quiet hum of brainstorming, discussions about strategies and plans flitting amongst the group like sparks of intelligence. Malik found himself wondering how he could foster unity among them, how he could combine his diplomatic skills and innate magical potential to guide their collective force.

The anticipation was suddenly cut short by a sharp rustling in the distance. Malik's Fae senses alerted him to something being off, and his heart quickened. The forest had been peaceful until now, but something had changed. A slight breeze stirred the leaves above, sending down a shower of golden rays that danced across the forest floor.

Then, like a storm unleashed, a massive figure burst through the undergrowth, the ground quaking beneath its weight. A Rhinoceros Beetle Guardian, its chitinous armor gleaming in the sunlight, its horned head lowered in a universal challenge. Behind it, an army of forest creatures surged forth, their eyes gleaming with a fierce, primal determination.

Malik felt a surge of fear, his untested abilities suddenly seeming inadequate in the face of such brute force. But he was also a Seraphim, and the Fae blood running through his veins was not one to back down from a challenge. His heart pounded in his chest like a war drum, the rhythm aligning with the pulsating energy of the crystal in his hand.

Swiftly, he activated the Light ability, the air around him glowing brilliantly, a beacon in the darkened forest and perhaps a distraction to the charging horde. Malik would address any of his allies that looked towards his sudden brilliance, his voice resonating with a quiet, innate authority.

"We cannot avoid this fight," he called out, his eyes fixed on the approaching horde. "But we can choose how we engage. I may not be the strongest amongst us, but my magic can serve to disorient our foes, giving you the opening you need."

His voice echoed in the sudden silence, the significance of his words hanging heavily in the air. He could see them considering, weighing their options.

"Brace yourselves!" he commanded, raising his crystal high. The moment of hesitation passed, replaced by a determination that echoed through the ranks. Everyone had a part to play, and the time to act was now.

As the guardians neared, Malik readied his Brilliant Shadow spell, the violet crystal pulsating in time with his heartbeat as he chanted some ancient language of the fae to weave mana into form and function like a musician turning sound into music. He cast the spell, a wave of radiant light intermixed with shifting darkness bursting forth to meet the incoming guardians.

Their first battle had arrived.

“Moss growing to the north? What does that mean, that you’re useless?” Orrius responded Tannia bluntly.

As the giant beetle burst through the undergrowth, Orrius would turn to Jason. “That guy one of your precious friends too?” He then watched as the beetle prepared to charge at them. “Doesn’t seem very friendly to me.”

Seeing the horde advancing towards them, Orrius couldn’t help but to grin in excitement. “Hmph, if they want a fight, then they've got one. Leave the small fries to me.”

Right after Malik had casted his light to distract the monsters, Orrius would raise his hand up, casting his own spell. A faint, small azure orb would appear in his hand, expanding rapidly till it engulfed the entire area. (500ft in radius surrounding Orrius)

“Now, PERISH!” Orrius clenched his fist, commanded the mana in the air to assault all the enemies, except the big guardian boss. He figured it would be interesting to watch the others fight it too.

Māo hated bugs. All those little creepy crawlies that could get under your skin and in your bloodstream or crawl inside your ear and lay eggs in your brain. She skitters backwards when Jason's insectile flock comes running. Laughing awkwardly, she tries to hide her obvious fear of them, even as her ears flatten and her tail twitches in different directions.

She was already out here in this stupid forest! Forests never worked out for her. Māo was a city girl, born and raised on the streets only to be put in this fantasy world where apparently every fucking quest is in a forest! She takes a deep breath, trying to slow her breathing down as she puts a hand to her chest.

The last time she was in a forest she accidentally maimed a man, permanently damaging him. She didn’t mean to! She didn’t mean to!

Māo steps back from the group, only showing mild signs of distress as she rests on a nearby tree. She just needed to calm down. She would take a few seconds for herself and she would be completely fine. She puts a hand on her flask, ready to absolutely destroy herself before the mission when a giant beetle bursts through the undergrowth. Ringing fills her ears as Malik begins to communicate a strategy to the group.

Taking a step to the left, she uses the tree as cover from the predatory eyes of their enemy. She shakes her head violently as she wills herself not to freeze up. The only thing that gave away her presence was the soft chiming of the multiple bells she wore as she shook lightly. She can’t do anything, but she wasn’t going to become a burden on the other members of her party.

Ivy leapt back in surprise upon seeing the beast guardian appear from out of nowhere. Looking at the giant tower before her, she couldn't stop herself from trembling in fear. She felt like her body was paralyzed, as she continued staring in horror at the beast. "Come on, move!" She thought to herself, but her body didn't seem like listening to her, even when her impending doom was lurking right around the corner.

Suddenly, a bright light would grab her attention. Darting her eyes around, she'd find the source of it all - the tall elf. His loud commanding voice also helped snap her back to reality and regain her senses, for which she was thankful for. "Right... Allow me to aid you with that." She'd say in response to their elf commander, before whipping out her flute and playing a soothing melody on it. Hopefully, this would calm the wild beasts down and slow their advance on them, but she was pretty skeptical about monsters liking her music.

Soothing melody: Grade F ability with 0 post cooldown | performance F, persuasion F | Ivy plays her flute, trying to calm down all enemies from attacking and going wild.

Naomi Plumfoot

A moment of introductions and group planning was quickly interrupted by the arrival of a beast guardian and a horde vicious creatures. Naomi immediately felt like she'd been thrown out of her element, but she understood that this was an obstacle that she'd need to overcome in order to get into Rykers. Truth be told, that might've been the main thing that kept her from retreating immediately.

Her only real offensive option was extremely close ranged and mostly defensive, and Naomi wasn't interested in running headlong into the danger and getting surrounded. The elf unleashed a bright light and a call to arms. The shy boy unleashed a wave of destruction that she could only envy. And the girl began to play a song that was no doubt laced with magic. Naomi chose to get a bit of information on the unknown threat so that the group could operate with a bit of knowledge.

She stepped forward then used [Appraisal F] on the beast guardian.

It was by far the most physically intimidating thing on the field. And she would share whatever information she gathered with the others.

Glacier

Glacier.gif

Glacier listened as the group continued to converse, patiently forming a strategy. However, that all shattered in an instant, when a horde of creatures -led by a colossal one- charged forward.

As the members of the group all began to fight or prepare for combat (with one exception), Glacier took stock of the situation. Malik said he was disorienting their foes, and Orrius was attacking the smaller creatures. That would leave the large one vulnerable to attack. "I shall attempt to cripple the leader... I request that you cover me."

With his intentions stated, Glacier ran towards the [Rhinoceros Beetle Guardian] as fast as he could, weaving between any obstacles or smaller enemies. Approaching the creature, he attempted to reach one of the joints on it's legs, swiftly whirling his body to strike it with his cold empowered tail [Frostbite Hit]. Shortly afterwards, Glacier began to repeatedly hop and purposefully angle his body, in order to evade any retaliatory hits he could, and try to deflect the ones he couldn't.

Action 2: Usage of "Frostbite Hit" ability.

Tannia gave Orrius' blunt reply a raised brow. How quick this kid was to label her as useless when he, since he asked the question, most likely didn't have much better to offer. She didn't feel the need to point this out however since he was just a dumb kid. That didn't mean she wouldn't bring it up again when his own inadequacies became apparent. Just not now.

There wasn't time for much else to be said before an army of creature came crashing through the trees, led by what had to be the biggest beetle that she had ever seen both in this life and the last. It honestly would have been intimidating if the old her hadn't dealt with worse. As she reached up and pulled her claymore from her back, she heard Orrius talking to the bug tamer and rolled her eyes. This kid was an ass. He did soon prove he wasn't all bark however when, after Malik fired off his lightshow and Ivy began playing her song, he let loose a massive spell. Maybe she'd give him a little less shit later.

The fox shaped ice elemental then requested support before running forward, and Tannia wasn't far behind him. "I'll try to keep it's attention!" She called out as she charged towards the enemy. As Glacier attempted a chilling blow on one of the beetle's legs, Tannia slipped to it's left and slashed at it's side with her large sword. Skidding to a stop near it's flank she planted her feet, bracing herself, and roared "Over here!" aiming for it to turn around and pay attention to her and not her allies.

Jason knew that something was happening. As he stood there he watched as all the little insects that were flying around him scattered. What was happening? Then the rhinoceros beetle guardian Rose from the ground. His first instinct was pure joy. Another massive insect! It was everything he had ever loved, but the joyous look of happiness on his face quickly faded. As the others prepared to fight or begin fighting as the Beatle made its approach, Jason noticed something else. Maybe it was his lifetime of having more in common with insects than people, but he noticed something odd about this one's behavior.

It was not uncommon for insects to act aggressively when defending territory, but this was different somehow. He couldn't tell if this aggression was because of a territorial dispute, or if this was the work of somebody else. Or something else. Of course, he would not hesitate to defend himself against anyone including this beautiful insect, but if this insect was being controlled by somebody else, then he had no right to hurt it.

Jason pondered to himself as to what could be the issue. Taking in the Beatles actions as it fought. He turned to the side, walking so that way he would not be in the way of the fight. Something told him that this beetle would not go down easy. As he did his insects followed suit, coming to his side without taking their focus off the massive creature in front of them. Even the Vilpincer on his back kept snapping its tail claw as a warning to keep away from him. Jason simply shushed them, petting one of his caustic spitters to calm it down. As he did so, his insects were still very on edge, but they visibly calmed down. Jason wanted to see more. He wanted to see if this beautiful creature was being aggressive because they encroached upon it's nest, or if it was being controlled. If it was, he would deal with it. For now, he simply stood there and watched its actions.

Ryke - Forest of Shadows

1686025466825-png.1092461

Malik, with his frame tinged in the pallor of the spectral light he commanded, surveyed the chaotic tableau unfurling before him. The forest, once a sanctuary of silence, had erupted into a maelstrom of battle. His companions, an assemblage of personalities as varied as the many species of trees around them, were locked in a ferocious dance with a large Rhinoceros Beetle Guardian. The hulking creature dominated the landscape, its green form shimmering in the twilight.

Among the first to act was Orrius, yet undeniably effective in his execution. An azure orb pulsed in his hand, expanding in the blink of an eye to envelop the horde encroaching upon them. As Malik's light darted to and fro, dazzling the horde, the azure orb contracted. In the blink of an eye, the once-teeming horde had been eradicated, leaving only the staggering Beetle Guardian.

As the soothing melody play by Ivy shifted the focus of the tension, Glacier moved. With a swift whirl, his cold-infused tail lashed out, meeting the Guardian's joint in a shock of frost while Tallia's basic sword attack struck the opposing side, Ivy's melody and Malik's luminous distraction had done their job – Glaciers and Tallia's attacks had found their marks.

Naomi, meanwhile, was gathering information, her eyes focused and her appraisal ability at work. But all it returned was the obvious - "Rhinocerus Beetle Guardian". She shared her findings, what meager ones they were. She would likely need to raise her skills some before she could read a higher powered creature like this guardian beetle.

Tannia's claymore gleaming ominously in the spectral light as she rushed into position. However, her attempts to distract the guardian proved futile, her presence seemingly lost in the confusion caused by the music, lights, and magic.

And then there was Jason, a paradox in the midst of chaos. Standing away from the fight, he observed the Beetle Guardian with a peculiar empathy only a bug-lover could comprehend. The beetle's aggression seemed unnatural, forced even - a curiosity worth exploring further.

Malik watched the symphony of battle unfurl, the outcome of their actions coming to fruition. With a flick of his wrist, the spectral light danced away, scattering like brilliant stardust over the battlefield. Turning to his comrades, he called out in his booming voice, "The Guardian is injured, but we cannot let our guard down. We need to strike now, together! Jason, if you see something, anything, let us know. Orrius, Naomi, get ready to combine your strengths. Tannia, stay by Glacier's side; he might need more protection. Ivy, can you go look after Māo. She seems like she needs some uplifting. Let's end this!"

The Rhinoceros Beetle Guardian, an imposing colossus of chitinous armor, seethed with an unfathomable fury as it bore the brunt of the party's onslaught. Its titanic form quivered with the chill of Glacier's frostbite hit or the sting for Tallia's sword stroke, the injuries slowing a couple of its massive legs but not stopping the creature in its tracks. Tannia's attempt at drawing its attention went unnoticed, the warrior's battle cries lost in the cacophony of the forest battleground. Instead, the behemoth was irrevocably drawn towards the enchanting melody that Ivy played, its massive antennae twitching erratically as though torn between the soothing lure of the music and the innate aggression it felt.

But the once teeming horde around it was no more; the combined light spectacle of Malik and the mana bombardment from Orrius had obliterated its minions. The creature’s compound eyes flickered with an eerie luminescence, shifting towards the source of its pain and then back to the party, the light within growing ominous and predatory. The Beetle Guardian, seemingly undeterred by its inflicted wounds, emitted a low, guttural sound that vibrated through the air, a primal warning of the impending counter-attack. Its massive horns glistened ominously under the spectral light, ready to charge, and its wings shivered, sending a haunting rustle through the air.

In a swift move that belied its injured state, the guardian Beetle reared up, using its colossal horn to cleave the air and push back against its attackers. With a thunderous crash, it began to charge at them, the earth trembling under its monstrous weight. Its rampage seemed indiscriminate, a destructive force aimed at anything that moved - yet, there was something in its path that seemed more deliberate than random. Its multifaceted eyes were fixed upon the light-weaver, Malik, recognizing him perhaps as the orchestrator of its torment. Jason made sure to take in every bit of information he could, watching what was happening to this poor creature. It was as if he could really feel what the Beetle was feeling. When it finally sunk in that this poor insect was being forced into this aggression, you could see his heartbreak. The bugs around him calming down as he soothed them. Jason motioned to have them follow, taking a walk towards the guardian. As he moved he waved his hands, his bugs falling in around him. Not with aggression, but almost showing how they trusted him. Once he got up close to the guardian he decided to take a risk "Keep them away for a moment."

His insects turn around, spreading out a bit. The caustic spitters hiss and spray their acid a little. The Vilpincer on his back crawled down and joined the others. Snapping their tails as the Crypticrawlers skitter and his. These actions taken to discourage the others from attacking further. Jason had created this specific defensive setup after studying some Old fort battles. Sometimes defending a fort is the best way to win a war. Or in this case, stop a fight before anybody needed to get seriously injured.

Jason gazed at the magnificent beast in front of him. A truly wonderful specimen of an insect. It hurt to see him in such pain, knowing he was only put here because someone told him to be aggressive, when in reality this guardian beetle might have been a wonderfully kind soul. He lifted his hand, placing it just on its forehead, feeling the damaged carapace upon it. A sweet smile thorned on his face as he looked into the eyes of this enormous bug "Hello there great guardian. You're a strong and noble beast, but only angered by another's influence. Why not calm down and sit with me for a while. Shall we?"

Watching the army of creatures getting annihilated, Orrius’s grin grew wider, smiling now like a maniac with crazed eyes. It was easy. Too easy. Just like squashing a bunch of ants. Why was he even nervous in the first place? This was just a piece of cake, he thought. The nerves from before were all gone now, replaced with confidence, or more accurately, arrogance.

His attention would then be drawn to the others fighting the guardian. He was unimpressed, his grin quickly turning into a frown. He left the boss untouched so that they could take it down together, but they can’t even do that much?

“You guys not done with the big guy yet?” The boy whined like a kid. Well, he was still just a kid after all. Probably the youngest here being 14.

As the boss prepared to charge at them, Malik would command him to attack together with the others to finish it off. Clicking his tongue, Orrius grumbled under his breath. “Must I do everything around here?” The blue glowing orb reappeared in his hand, filling up the entire space nearby once more. However, before he could command the mana to attack the guardian, he stopped himself. Apparently the insect man called Jason had a trick up his sleeve, as he approached the guardian without his bugs by his side.

“Oh? He’s taking it on by himself. Interesting…” Orrius said with a wave of his hand, dispelling his mana immediately. He was curious to see what everyone had to offer anyways, it wouldn’t be fun if he ended everything for them too quickly.

"Damnit..."

Useless. All that she was able to glean from that Rhinoceros beetle was it's name, and she probably could've guessed that on her own. Between Orrius' vibrant display of widespread destruction and Mallik's illusions, it became increasingly clear that she was behind and that she would need to do a lot of catching up if she ever hoped to rival the two of them. For now, though, she needed to focus on supporting them, supporting everyone, so that they could complete their mission.

She darted forwards, towards Glacier and Tannia. As much as she would've liked to keep her distance, she just didn't have the means to contribute from afar. As the she drew near, she threw her hand back and conjured a giant, hard-light hand with an open palm. Then, as soon as she got within range, she threw swung her arm forward and sent the hand hurtling forward to smack the beetle upside his head and drive it back. Hopefully, she could slow it's charge and give her partners some breathing room to work with.

Action 1) Positioned herself right next to Tannia and Glacier.
Action 2) Used [Mage Palm]

Mage Palm (Light)- Magic F, Magic Affinity[Light] F, Accurate F, Knockback F, Deflect F - Conjures the image of a large, open, blue hand. Glacier

Glacier.gif
Interactions: Tannia ( Ian Temero Ian Temero ), Naomi ( Gwen_Temi Gwen_Temi ).

As Glacier combated the [Rhinoceros Beetle Guardian], he saw Tannia run in to fight alongside him and to distract it, glad to know that he had support. With everyone working together, the battle seemed to be going in their favor. That was, until it suddenly wasn't.

When the creature reared up in a menacing display of power, Glacier had the sense that it would be wise to get out of it's path; far, out of it's path. With that reasonable assumption in mind, he attempted to evade it by jumping out of the way. Running towards Tannia, he hoping that it would not change direction to charge into him, and if it tried to, that they could work together to fight it. He could also see Naomi approaching, which would add to their numbers. As he reached Tannia, he turned his head around to look at their foe, before skidding to a stop and twisting around to face the opposite direction.

What Glacier saw befuddled him; Jason was attempting to communicate with it, but had ordered his minions to defend it from them. He decided to speak on it, though it was not necessarily directed to Tannia or Naomi. "What foolishness is this... to have his bugs face his allies... rather than the present danger?" His tone had both a curious and judgmental quality to it. Though whether Jason would succeed or not, the fact was that currently there was still fighting to be had. Thus, Glacier prepared for whatever would come next.

Action 1: Evasion- out of the creature's path.
Action 2: Movement- towards Tannia.

Seeing the entire horde evaporate into thin air right before her eyes, Ivy blinked, wondering if she was just seeing things. So this was the power of a mage? And that grin on his face… What was he, some evil psycho wannabe? Cringing hard on the inside, Ivy rolled her eyes. He even continued whining when the others were struggling with the guardian.

“Hey, is this all just a game to you? You could have attacked the boss yourself, but you didn’t. And now you’re the one complaining. Quit acting like a child.” She snapped at the boy. Sure, he may be powerful, but that arrogance of his was far too irritating for her to stand it, and no way in hell will she back down just because he’s a little strong.

Upon hearing Malik’s instruction, Ivy would look around for Mao, who had disappeared from the group. A couple of chiming bells would give away her location behind a tree. She looked… afraid. Why of course, they were suddenly attacked out of nowhere! Even Ivy herself was frozen in shock initially.

“You can’t hide there forever, you know?” Ivy spoke in a caring tone, but with a bit of scolding in it, while slowly moving towards Mao. “It’s okay to be scared and to run away sometimes. But still, you gotta pick yourself back up and move forward eventually. To face your fears head on. That’s the only way you can make progress, and to achieve your dreams.”

Reaching the tree, Ivy would reach out her hand. “Come on, let’s go.”

Tannia Duellona

Character Grade - D
HP:
4/4

Actions
  1. Push past bugs (STR: C)
  2. Movement
  3. Basic Attack ( Effectiveness: 6)

Her attack landing, Tannia felt her blade cut through chitin, though not as deep as she would have liked. She thought she had grown accustomed to the strength in this new body, but it seemed in a fight she still overestimated herself. Her challenge also went unheard however as it continued to face the group. At first she thought that maybe the music had worked in calming the beast down, but it only took a moment of it staring at Malik for her to realize what was about to happen.

"Oh no you-!" She started to call out, drawing her sword back for another strike when the beetle reared up and lashed about, forcing Tannia to step back. In the time it took her to recover it was already rushing forward. She saw Glacier and Naomie coming towards her, the fox seeming nimble enough to avoid a hit and the arcane hand the girl projected strong enough to deflect the blow. Malik may have told her to protect the elemental, but it looked like these two weren't the ones in need of protection. And while she couldn't do anything to stop its charge, she could attack again and hopefully this time draw its attention away.

"Don't worry about me!" Tannia shouted to the two near her, taking a step forwards only to be stopped once again, by Jason's bugs of all things. He had ordered them to stop his teammates? She did not have time for this, the party was in danger! Cussing, she shoved past the spitting and hissing pests and sprinted after the giant beast, swing her claymore with a roar at its flank to make it regret not facing her before.

The girl was right. She couldn’t hide forever, no matter how much she wanted to. She groaned out in annoyance, how could someone who looked half her age be so mature? Māo straightened up her back, taking the girl’s hand confidently before pulling her behind the tree with her.

“You stay here, sweetheart.” Māo hoped to keep Ivy behind cover so she could play her flute without fear of danger.

She smiled at Ivy before using her [claws] to easily scale the tree, sitting for a moment and observing the battle before she stood up on a sturdy limb, jumping to another tree in close proximity. Her [Acrobatics E] helped her land without much trouble, her [claws] digging into the bark to keep her steady.

Māo then quickly skips a few more trees until she is effectively behind the Beetle Guardian, high up in the trees and ready to assist if needed. She desperately hopes she isn’t needed. She can practically feel her claws dulling as she keeps them sunk into the bark, holding her in place.

Actions:

Ryke - Forest of Shadows

1686025466825-png.1092461

In a scene that constantly teetered on the edge of chaos, it was those like Jason who tried to introduce a semblance of calm. His leadership, his compassion, his ambition to hold back the storm. Even as the colossal insect bore down upon him, Jason reached out, his voice a murmur against the tide. Yet, his efforts were ultimately in vain, his harmony with insects severed by the unforgiving assault of the guardian beetle. Jason was cast aside, the momentum wrenching him away, his own bugs either squashed beneath the massive creature or thrown into disarray, their systems shocked by the abrupt collision. (jason takes 1 point of damage to HP, all vilpincer are dead, all caustic spitters are dead, all crypticcrawlers take 1 point of hp damage)

Tannia, too, dared to defy the onslaught. Her sword, a beacon in the whirlwind, struck true, her effort valiant in its execution. Yet, the force of the Rhinoceros Beetle Guardian was not to be denied. It moved inexorably on, the blow knocking Tannia back, the vibration coursing through her blade and damaging it in the process. (Tannia's sword takes 1 point of damage and loses 1 grade off the total until repaired)

Glacier, the embodiment of nature’s tranquility, attempted a nimble evasion, but the destructive force of the guardian proved unrelenting. His ice armor, once a shield against the fury, fractured and shattered as he too was knocked aside, a fox caught in the path of a rampaging avalanche. (Glacier's armor is destroyed and unavailable in the rp until recovered)

Naomi's magic flared, a beacon in the chaos. Her conjured hand swept forward, smashing into the advancing Rhinoceros Beetle Guardian, aiding the beleaguered Tannia and Jason. But the force was insurmountable; the assault from the colossal creature wounded Naomi in passing, damaging the precious ring that served as her conduit for magic. (the catalyst of Naomi's is damaged and not useful for the remainder of the rp or until repaired)

The arrogance of youth proved fatal for Orrius, the mage-boy trampled beneath the onslaught of the guardian. His confident sneer became a grimace of agony as he was left grievously injured, his survival hanging by a thread. Ivy, the resilient spirit who stood furthest, could not avoid the force of the collision and was thrown back, the shock of the impact leaving a bitter taste of damage. (orrius is on death's door, he can safely choose to exit rp, or he continue the fight. If he continues, he risks dismemberment or death if he is damaged again)

Perched in the trees, Māo was the only one who seemed to weather the onslaught unscathed, her agile movements taking her to the creature's blind spot.

Malik had tried to evade the bug, the wariness of an experienced fae reflected in his movements. However, he was caught off guard, his dark leather armor was damaged beyond immediate use, its protection now useless.

The guardian beetle, in its relentless rampage, crashed into the formidable trees which held their ground, their stubborn trunks an unyielding barrier. The beetle halted, momentarily disoriented, its antennae twitching frantically as it tried to recalibrate its senses. Then, in a surge of primal fury, the beetle reared back, its carapace glinting under the sullen light. Its gaze was drawn towards the straggling party members, a renewed rage simmering within its beady eyes. Would it charge again? Or would it opt for a different approach? Either way, its fury was far from quelled despite its grievous injuries now visible on its body in blue, milky fluid.

With the dust settling, a singular truth hung heavily in the air. The guardian beetle was not to be underestimated, and a change in tactics was imperative if they were to survive, let alone triumph. Would they retreat? Or would they muster the courage to confront the seemingly insurmountable adversary anew? The weight of the decision rested heavily upon their battered shoulders.

Malik Seraphim, stood amidst the chaos aftermath, his heart a steady drum of resolve within his chest. His ruined armor was a heavy reminder of his immediate reality; the giant beetle guardian was not an enemy to be trifled with. Yet, within his gaze, there wasn't fear, but a glint of understanding, of resolution.

Malik, tall and lean, bore the innate grace of the Fae, and it radiated from him as he moved, a calming presence amidst the tempest of the battle.

Taking a deep breath, Malik focused on the task at hand. He held up his violet crystal catalyst. His fingers traced the smooth surface, the energy inside pulsing to the rhythm of his heart, ready to answer his call. His hands began to glow, a brilliant light that illuminated the area, as he prepared his next move. His focus turned to the beetle guardian, its form a menace that loomed over them. A hush fell over him as he prepared his assault, the energies of light and dark pooling within him. He was ready to face the guardian, to assert his will and protect those who fought alongside him.
