Graded [Hyroth Village] May Even These Bones Find Rest!

Hathaway Peacecraft

Hathaway observed the exchanges going on between the adventurers. He was unaware that such assignments attracted so many. This was a learning experience in that case. There were many of different kind of folks that approached their group.

Being the Ryke resident that he had been for most of his life, seeing people of different races wasn't anything new or notable to him. When he first came to this world as a child, he was very afraid of them for sure, but things were different now. It all just had to do with realizing that they were just like him.

When Hathaway noticed that some of the members of their growing band seemed a bit nervous about the growing amount of suspicious strangers, he ascertained he need to clear the air.

If being holyman of peace and prosperity didn't do anything now, then when would all those hours of reading dusty old books be put to any use for?

Keeping his headpiece from blowing away by keeping a hand pressed against it, Hathaway walked forward amongst the group. Keeping a harmless smile on his face, the young man spoke, "We're just doing what any good samaritans would do when hearing news of trouble, trying to fix. There's been word of undead unpleasantries going on within the tombs. So you'd imagine there would be those in the village that want something to be done about this problem. That's how we've gathered together." The cleric spoke in a soothing voice as he could while still trying to speak over the oncoming harsh winds.

He gave a measured look in the eyes of both the lizardman and wolven before them. They seemed hesitant, or rather on their guard. Judging from their attire, Hathaway had come to the conclusion that they weren't village guards but probably other adventurers who had the same goal as them. If that were the case, then Hathaway just had to think of this circumstance similar to when civilians that were shy about joining the Church. So he took the same course of action,

"Could it be that you both were interested in coming along as well? The more the merrier. There's no telling just how many of those vermin lay within there. So we would hope tough fellows like yourselves could offer your assistance. I'm sure no one else objects, no?"

Hathaway took a glance around the ensemble. He could only assume there wouldn't be any issues. Well if there were, that would just be another learning experience. Still with his relaxed demeanor, Hathaway shifted his attention to the brown-haired muscular fellow. "It's a blessing to have another strong warrior within our little army. I'm Hathaway Peacecraft, I will try to stay out swinging range when blades start flying, but rest assured I'll have your back."

As the new arrivals introduced themselves, Eris was curious about a few of them. Though they seemed like they wanted to help. As a gust of cold wind blew in front the direction of the storm Eris grabbed her forearms and gave a small shiver. "I'm Eris, Priestess of the Goddess Holfeel! Well if you want to help this nearby town follow us to the tomb! We still got a little ways to go through," Eris chuckled as she started to lead the group on.

The more people that wanted to help the better off the group would be. Afterall they didn't know what was going to happen once they arrived at the tomb. Though a few of the new arrivals were interesting, she saw one of them had a musket. She wasn't entirely sure what was going to happen.

Over the next several hours the group reached a stopping point on a hill where they could see the tomb entrance. The entrance looked like a caved-in hole, there didn't seem to be any creatures or being roaming around outside. To be frank it looked like a normal hole in the ground.

Though the group would notice the dread that covered the area it was unusually cold. It might have been winter though this was a different kind of cold. It seemed to seep into the bone, there was something unnatural about the whole matter. "You all feel that as well correct?" Eris inquired as she looked back at the group.

Lucius followed the lead of the priestess of Hades once more. The bitter cold air reminded him of his home in Cisalpine Gaul. For all the world it looked like he wasn't bothered at all dressed as he was. The rest of his men did not however. They drew their travelling cloaks closer about them to ward off the chill. There wasn't much chatter among them, though one of the five legionaires did try to start up a latin marching chant it quickly died away among the baleful looks of his companions and commanders. As they drew close to what he figured was the entrance even the indefatigable Lucius seemed to grow cold, but it looked as if his own cloak did him little good. He looked at Eris and shrugged at her comment. "It is an entrance to a shrine of Pluto, defiled by a blasphemer. Of course it is cold. The god of the underworld does not look kindly on shrine defilers." He was reminded of the old stories of gods sending heros to slay such enemies, and he felt honored he could be on such an expedition. As he had been spelunking into the dark before [Title, Delver] Lucius stepped up to the hole without delay. "Downward it is." He stepped forward and lowered himself down carefully into the hole and attempted to climb down. With any luck it wouldn't go deep or he could scale the surface to the bottom.

After some internal deliberation, Darin decided to join the group. They talked about how they could use help with clearing out undead from a nearby tomb; it seemed that a village was possibly in danger. He needed the practice of using his firearm anyway, so this was a good opportunity. There was also a reduced risk, considering how many people there were in the group.

Walking along the path for the next few hours, it seemed to get colder & colder; along the the way, Darin spent the time continuing to study the group, & considering if he had made the wrong decision. However, those thoughts were interrupted once they reached a hill, & the tomb came into view. As Darin incredulously stared at it, he spoke his mind.

"This is the tomb? It's just a hole in the ground, in the middle of nowhere, & it doesn't even have anything to act as a cover or door; whoever designed this 'tomb' is an absolute idiot!" Darin took a deep breath, & sighed; perhaps the odd & disturbing feeling of this area was getting to him. With that thought, he answered the priestess's question. "Indeed, & I quite despise it myself."

Looking back to the... "tomb", he asked her some questions. "So, do we know what is suspected to be at the bottom of it? Hallways, rooms? Any information on what kind of undead, such as zombies or skeletons? It would be wise not to go in unpre...pared..." His sentence trailed off as Darin exasperatedly watched one of the Roman soldiers walk up to the hole, & climb down without any hesitation, or planning. "Or not, if all of you would prefer to jump straight into certain danger with reckless abandon."

Abel shivered. Even in her weakened state, she never shivered. How she hated that damn, putrid sensation. Despite not caring about the cold itself, she could see the red peeking at her from the tips of her fingers and the gooseflesh stabbing needles into her arm. The cold shouldn't bother her. "Cold" wasn't even a temperature where she came from. It wasn't a lack of heat, but an essence. It was the wind that connected them all. But now... now she is weak. Like them.

Abel held back her fury. It was a disgusting feeling, holding inside of her that rage. Especially when the rage is tinged with the throbbing fear that had begun to settle into her bones. That fear, at least, was familiar. And hold it in she did. She observed the others quietly, without a glimmer of her inner turmoil apparent in her demeanor.

Regarding entering the hole, she found herself siding with the freakish lizard thing. Now that danger was much more apparent, it was necessary for them to form some sort of plan. Even just for efficiency's sake. Not that she cared if the armed band of humans were to vanish from her sight, however.

Abel decided that she would just follow whatever the priestess did.

Eris looked over at the Romans, who didn't seem to be really affected much by the hole. As they mentioned Gods from Earth, she scratched her chin. Her normal demeanor was more serious as the normal grin that was on her face was now gone. Everything feels wrong here; merciful Goddess, may your light reach the depths of this temple. She thought to herself as the Romans approached the hole, they would notice that the way into the entrance was like a slope; anyone who looked closely would be able to tell that the path ahead led them into a hall wall that was blocked on one side and would force them to go forward.

Eris looked over at Darin as he mentioned the tomb entrance. "Well, one could probably presume that the ceiling gave way and weakened after many years. Though if that is the case, I would suggest we proceed caution-" Eris stated as she saw Lucius enter the tomb; they were about to explore. "I wouldn't be too eager to jump in there!" Eris called out as she peered down into the darkness further down the hallway from the surface level. She squinted her eyes as she sighed and turned around on her heel.

Lucius and the other Romans would instantly notice the air cooling around them, the cold slowly seeping into their bones. It was almost as if there was no hint of warmth in the air. The place felt like the living were not meant to be there and something very wrong was happening. As Darin then asked about the information about the place Eris brought a finger to her chinn. "Well, from what the villagers said, zombies were coming out of here but that doesn't mean that they are the only thing we could find deeper in," Eris explained as she tightened the grip on her staff before letting out a sigh.

Seeing as the others entered Eris followed suit, walking down into the tomb as she stepped out of the light, her priest's robes started to glow, providing a light and no need for a torch for the moment. "I will be the light in the darkness," Eris stated as she looked over her should to see if everyone had come down into the tomb before continuing.

With sword in hand and a priestess of Pluto at his back the Centurion feared very little the dark could hold for him. He strolled into the tomb as if he owned the place, his men were not quite so eager behind him. The light of Eris's robes made it easy to make out the inside and while there wasn't exactly anything to fear in sight things got very cold. His men drew up in a line in front of him, the three companions slightly behind the Legionaries, and stepped forward shields raised. The dim light made it difficult to see far but they pushed forward down the hallway. It wasn't exactly clear where the hallway lead but Lucius hoped to see something to hit soon. It would soothe his nerves if he had something to fight in front of him.
