This chapter of Isekai Hell will find the group of Michael (Ryken Adventurer), Jareth (Glassmaker and rookie adventurer), Matt (Ryken Adventurer), and Cleo (Trader) grouped up for a mission in region known as The Duchy. Their efforts will be primarily focused in the capital city of Aslan. Petitioned by a woman named Regula, the party's objective is to find a means of proving Regula's noble birth.

It was rumored that many diviners, too far away from the influences of Regula's rivals, could be found in Aslan. Michael and party would seek them out and see if their services could be secured. However, Aslan was far away, a bit city, and not just any diviners would do. Michael would recruit the aid of a couple friends (Jareth and Matt), as well as Cleo, one of the few traders to answer his callout for someone with some knowledge in business and trade. Michael didn't have much sense for working out a deal if they needed to negotiate something with the diviners, so he figured he could use all the help he could get.

The size of the job was also enough that Michael's team would not be the only one seeking to lend Regula aid. With a bit of a race on their hands, Michael started looking into ways to get ahead of the curve. One method he found was the portal system. One portal in Ryken went straight to Aslan. Using his titles of recognition and some money between himself and Cleo, the trader, they were able to secure a midmorning transport to the capital, saving them potentially weeks of land or sea travel. The Duchy was on the other side of the continent from Ryken. The portal would allow them to travel there instantly.

Once the party was ready, they met at the Traveling facility in Ryken. The building was large, with many heavy looking stone and iron doors to seal the inner chambers if there was ever a need. Guards patrolled all of the floors and guests were few. With appointment arranged, they were able to walk in and were guided by one of the stewardesses to a chamber with a central raised platform. On the platform was golden banded circle of shifting, fluid void. With the Stewardesses instruction, the party went through one at a time. The portal would feel like they were passing through cold water. They would have the urge to hold their breath, but there was no need. As soon as they stepped through they were already falling.

Brilliant sunlight blinded them as the tumbled in the air. Flipping end over end, the party would have likely been confused and frantically trying to gain control of their descent. Michael immediately tried using his abilities to ease his fall and figure out what happened. He would find his skills were unavailable to him. He would tumble uncontrollably with the rest until sudden a stiff updraft would hit them and their fall would greatly slow and give them enough force to work against they could right themselves and stop flipping. The world continued to spiral for a moment before they then understood where they were.

Before them was the massive city of Aslan. It's massive structures seemed to scrape the sky in some cases while its lowest points disappeared out of view. The architecture seemed beyond what normal crafters could achieve. The weights, angles, and supports leveraged were most likely something forged by magic. Water features dotted the buildings and greenery grew all around them from various small or larger communal gardens. The air smelled fresh and clean unlike the slightly soured air of Ryken. Tons of people of various races mingled in the tiered streets. The sounds of the bustle couldn't quite reach them as the blast of air continued around them. One other thing they noticed, aside from the airships, was the massive blue barrier around the entire city.

"Hello, everyone. My name is Star Delta. I will be your guide while in Aslan. Are you the Michael party?"

It was unclear where the girl came from, but she was freely able to fly despite the rest of them being trapped in free fall. She circled them before floating in front of them. She sounded and smelled sweet and her tone and smile were all hospitality, but there was something slightly off about her performance.

"...Yes...Um, Yes we are. I'm Michael,"

Michael struggled to find the words while coming to terms with the situation. He tried shifting to get a more dignified posture in front of their guide, but failed to do so.

"Very good. Michael and company, I have been instructed to help you locate skilled practitioners in the divine arts. When it is our turn, we shall descend to level 3 and I will give you information on the wares and services on offer. I will also let you know of the best food places. Especially, the confectionaries."

She said with a giggle and a mischievous smile and wink.

Capital City Aslan

Cleo wasn't so sure about what the whole ordeal the adventurer was in, but the opportunity to go to the most accomplished nation in terms of magic? He couldn't let it pass, and so he volunteered. He was then given the basic rundown of what his role was, and though he wasn't privy to the entire matter as he was just an outsider, he was able to make sense of what it was all about. Determined to see a new world of magic, Cleo accepted whatever terms he and the others might've cooked up.

Now he found himself floating in the air, with the rest of the group, and a certain girl flying in a controlled state unlike theirs. However, his eyes soon drifted into the scenery before him. His eyes widened in astonishment, mesmerized by the magical nature of the entire city. It was unlike him to be starry-eyed for so long, but he caught himself and composed himself after noticing that they were still in the air. Thankfully, he wore lighter clothes this time, so there was no robe that flapped around and slapped his face silly during the initial fall. He readjusted himself and his eyeglasses and looked at the others with him, before looking at the girl. "This is quite the welcome, though I suppose such a grand nation should also have grand greetings." he commented, clear admiration on his face as his eyes darted around the city below.

Jareth had settled back into business as usual at the shop. It was routine and comfortable, and the Adept enjoyed being of further assistance to Master Nolan. This was his place in Ryken, and Jareth was painfully aware of every detail that went into it. He could recite the places he would go and tasks he would perform each day by heart like an incantation to the ritual of his life. In spite of that, it would be no small lie to say he wasn't completely ecstatic when Michael came through the front door of the Glass Eye recruiting for a mission. He had no idea what a Duchy was, but by golly he was going to find out!

Queue the Traveling Facility. Large doors of both stone and metal, no small feat from Jareth's artisan side. Having never been in the structure, having never wanted to leave Ryken, much less by portal, the entirety of the facilities innards were fascinating to the first-timer. The prized jewel of his experience there, however, was without a doubt the gyrating ring of the portal. It paralleled the glass lenses Nolan and he crafted, yet the magical plane was so...

"Perfect...." Jareth uttered in amazement.

Unfortunately, this was a business trip, so his admiration was cut short as their quartet shuffled through the portal. A shiver ran down Jareth's spine as he crossed the threshold. The low light of the facility's interior suddenly became blinding daylight as Jareth appeared in the sky outside of the Duchy. There wasn't much time to sightsee, however, as the experience of suddenly having no ground beneath him caused Jareth to zone out. He fell lifeless through the air alongside his travelling partners, a half-lidded blank stare the only sign he was still alive.

Matt had been simply hanging around the adventurers guild, waiting for any work to catch his eye, before he was recruited by Michael for the task. He decided to go along to see the world a little bit more, and also see if there was any way he could get better acclimated to his new Rabbit ears and horn. He also didn't mind spending more time with the group itself, since they were the only ones he knew for the most part. Regula was also kind of pretty so there was that, not the worst person to get on the good side of.

Once they arrived to the portal facility, he looked around. "Am I gonna have to check my bow in at TSA?" He joked, before realizing the odds were no one would get that joke, since he didn't who was and wasn't otherworlders. He didn't like the feeling of the portal, since he really didn't like cold water. So instead he held his breath like he were diving into a pool in his last life, moving through as instructed.

When he stepped through the portal and began to fall, his eyes widened as he began to let out a little shout of surprise, flipping end over end before settling into a smooth but extremely fast spin, like a living beyblade. Even when they reached the stabilizing draft, he continue to spin a little, more because it was fun rather than anything else, before righting himself after a moment to get a closer look at everything.

He whistled a little, before humming a little. "I'd compliment the architecture, but Magic makes it feel like it's cheating a little." He hummed a little to himself, before looking towards Star Delta, the person greeting them. He internally thought there was no way this little magical girl looking person wasn't somehow a boy, but he figured that was a topic for him to think about another time. He didn't bother looking for a dignified position in the air, settling on a slow spin through the air, his rabbit ears flopping in the wind.

"Nice to meet you Star. Or should I call you Delta? Or is there like some other thing?" He asked as he spun slowly, before nodding a bit. "I'm Matt." He said, before turning his attention to Jareth, moving through the air a little towards the party member and giving them a little shake to try and snap them out of whatever haze he was in.

Michael

While the Michael party waited in the air, Star Delta turned to Michael,

"By the way, does your party have any monsters in it or criminals? We'll need to make some arrangements if so. It won't be good if we went through the barrier without following certain steps,"

Despite Star Delta's small figure and cute demeanor, it was clear something ominous waited if any in the party were not upstanding members of society.

"None of us are like that,"

Michael replied, stating what he believed to be true loud enough to be heard over the updraft of air in everyone's face. However, he looked around at the party inquisitively just in case he was speaking untruths. Star Delta immediately took what Michael said as gospel, however.

"That's great. Well, our turn has arrived. Everyone ready? Let's go!"

Suddenly Michael and company were following Star in an abrupt and reckless nose dive for the blue barrier. Too late to turn back now. Those still trying to get oriented would have to do so over again. While this was more tame than some of the situations Michael had put himself in, it was still a heart racing experience to have someone else in control of what felt like a free falling, out of control, situation.

Unlike the portal's membrane that felt cold and watery to the touch, the blue barrier of Aslan felt like nothing at all. The only proof they moved through it at all was the rippling after effect of them going through like a rock splashing the surface of a lake. Drawing close to the city's upper limits, they saw other groups such as themselves getting air escorts into the city. Some of the guides looked strikingly similar to Star Delta. More flying than falling, the party had the chance to really soak up the atmosphere of the city.

One thing of note was the clean air. Ryken, as already mentioned, had a bit of a smell, As good as they were about waste removal , they still had refineries and various things to burn for warmth or cooking. What's more, this city was covered in green. The gardens kept seemed to be filled with all manner of edible and fantastical plans. Many of which gave of pleasant aromas. Many such gardens had water pumped in from somewhere and circulated freely. Being close to the lake, it was not surprising to see so many water features in the city, however, Ryken was next to one of the largest rivers in the world and didn't have such elaborate waterworks. Part of the feat was made all the more incredible when it also considered that the gardens were several stories above the lake. How they pumped water straight up to some of the skyscraper hanging gardens seemed impossible for IH level's of technology other than magic.

Magic, in its many forms, were clearly on display around every corner. they were flying with some form of flight magic, but they saw many other forms of movement being used. Broom stick flight, riding on clouds, and cruising in magically powered contraptions were all on display. Occasionally, teleporting or portalling was used in transporting goods through crowded streets. Illusions were everywhere also. Big signs that flashed during the day and likely at night as well advertising the latest and greatest of magical catalysts and implements. Illusions that didn't seem far off from holograms projected everywhere for advertising purposes. Some illusions were as localized as individuals using them in place of makeup or accessories. Faint signs of barrier use over exposed walkways were visible too. Looked like the misting off the waterfalls wasn't a concern to travelers anymore than aerial accidents. Did bring to mind how far they would fall if barriers would prevent them from landing on any one crosswalk. There was some degree of congestion when it came to flyers: both individuals and vessels like airships moving through the city. Surely accidents happened occasionally.

Star Delta's smile never wavered as she maneuvered the group up, down, and all around, sometimes narrowly avoiding colliding with other travelers or obstacles in the path. At one point they avoided crashing into a building by taking a sharp 90 degree upward turn. Anyone not expecting it likely lost their breakfast around that time if they hadn't already.

c110abf44cf14dffe76bd60c52f54b31.png

Matt found himself being pulled along by Delta, his rotation beginning again as he was blown towards the ground and through the barrier. He began to look around, seeing all this wonderous architecture, cross referencing it with what he had seen in Ryke, raising an eyebrow. "No yeah, magic is definitely cheating." He said to himself, looking around as they flew around. It was a completely one up of Ryke, but he was sure there was something suspect going on with this town. In all the Isekai shows he'd seen when he was alive, cities like these always had like a Magic Nazi organization or something. However, for the time being, he couldn't really talk about that.

He flew around, but taking in the scenery was rather difficult with how much he was spinning as he flew around behind Delta. He was lucky he hadn't eaten anything before hand, since this would definitely take an entire meal out of his stomach and place it on the ground if one caught his drift. As he flew around and saw the area around him, taking in what he could during his Beyblading state, he saw all this agriculture and wonderment, wondering how this city hadn't somehow become a world empire if not for some kind of like, limitation he wasn't aware of. But this made the world seem just fine, but he supposed that once again was just surface level.

He didn't really have much to say, since he hadn't really been addressed, and was too busy being dizzy to think up anything witty to remark to those around himself, instead still just following around Delta. He began to wonder if she were some kind of golem or construct as they saw all the similar guides, and how her smile never seemed to drop.

Jareth Fletcher
|Human|Eyeglass Adept|Scorned|
e7211d0dfef7eb06023bae95b5df0b4a--long-blond-hair-blonde-hair.jpg

Jareth blinked his drying eyes a couple times as Matt roused him back to consciousness. At first he stared blankly around, adjusting his glasses, which had miraculously not fallen off. Suddenly, his eyes sprang open as he realized they were still in midair. An involuntary shrill scream escaped his mouth as he clutched and clambored onto Matt.

"DON'T LET ME GO, MATT! DON'T LET ME GO!" Jareth exclaimed wildly while clinging to the archer.

That's when the descent began. They tilted into a nosedive towards the blue gate that was their point of entry. Despite the intensity with which Jareth clung to Matt, he still wasn't strong enough to maintain his hold. Slipping off Matt's torso, Jareth slid down to his leg, screaming and flailing wildly in the group's wake as they careened towards the city. A final burst of speed before they leveled out and hit the gate shook Jareth completely free of Matt. He lagged behind them a moment as if he were going to fall but was scooped up by whatever force propelled them and ushered into the Duchy with the others. Jareth tried to grasp Matt, or anyone for that matter, but they were just beyond his short reach.

Travel through the city was much smoother compared to the entry, so Jareth had a chance to slightly calm down even though he was still crying a bit. Wiping his eyes, he attempted to distract himself with the sights of the city. The projected shop signs and advertisements were useful for this. He wondered what eyeglass stores looked like here and what sort of wares they might provide.

Despite a moment or two's reprieve, Jareth's distractions largely didn't work on account of their reckless guide. He cringed and twisted and dodged whenever some new obstacle came life-threateningly close to smashing them. He had spun 180 degrees in his attempts so did not see the building they almost hit nor expect Delta's insane solution. The force of the sudden upward jolt forced Jareth's stomach contents out of his mouth.

Cleo took his time to appreciate the city, but instinctively felt something wrong. That's when his body suddenly fell like a boulder falling from a cliff. "UWWAAAHHH!!!" Cleo couldn't hold it in and began screaming to the top of his lungs. The descent felt like his soul tried to leave his body, and fortunately for him, the girl had enough tact to slow down their flight after their entrance to the barrier. His posture was undignified and his face was full of cold sweat as he clutched his chest. His fear was soon soothed when he once again took a look at the city below them. Despite weaving around the obstacles along the way, Cleo's eyes focused solely on the sight before him. Bright signs, greenery everywhere, flowing water here and there, and there was even traffic of flying civilians! Cleo looked on in awe, causing him to not notice the building along their way.

The sudden bolt upwards almost took the air out of Cleo, and a bit of bile to almost creep out of his throat. Although disgruntled, it wasn't as bad as the first dive, but his thoughts soon halted when he felt something wet splash against his back. He oriented himself to look behind him, only to find one of them had thrown up. Horrified, he immediately took off his coat, leaving only his sleeved shirt. Although the wetness on his bad wasn't as bad, he still was indignant about the whole situation. Now he had a coat on his hand that's stained with vomit, and his back was cold from the residual wetness. "Uh, miss Star Delta." He said with increased volume hoping to reach the girl's ears "Would there be somewhere we can wash off after this? I am afraid I might've been struck with an unfortunate event."

Michael

The party must have finally flew to the right district in the city because Star Delta took them in with just as much ease and swiftness as the rest of the ride. Michael wasn't aware of any tight schedules they were trying to make. It was still morning. However, her rush made you think they were on a tight deadline. Michael's eyes were wide as he tried to take in everything passing by the party in a flash. His teeth were visibly clenched while he tried to maneuver his body to better take the forces being applied to them with the sudden twist and turns. Like the rest, his hair was slicked back by the wind and would remain that way for most of the flight. It didn't help that one of the paths took them through a water feature. The water poured out at intervals. Star flew threw it fine, but the rest of the party were doused. As if aware of the moist situation, Star took them into a tornado.

The tornado, as Michael would refer to it later, was a massive vortex of wind that went up several floors. It created an updraft in intervals that stirred the air and gave a lift off point for several 'fliers', those capable of flight magic. The party narrowly avoided a few on their path through it while also gaining altitude.

Just before crashing into another building, Star put on the breaks suddenly as they all suddenly floated delicately forward to touch down one of the railed in streets. Despite being light on his feet and fairly coordinated, Michael cursed under his breath as he stumbled to the railing and tried to catch up with himself from the disorienting flight. Most of the party looked like they just got out of bed with messy hair and disheveled appearance. Only Star Delta looked perfect as before and beamed at having successfully taken her group on a scenic tour of some of the city while shaving time off her record. She cheered after checking the time hologram that projected from her wrist.

"Hurray! We made it. Best time yet. Everyone did wonderfully. I don't detect any defecation on this flight. Once everyone is ready, Let's go! I can smell some of the tastier stalls from here!"

Star declared excitedly with a giggle and a twirl of her baton. She was short compared to most of the party but her pink implement made her easily trackable in the crowd. Passerby's were careful to give her and the party a wide birth. Perhaps they didn't wish to get accidentally whacked by the staff as she twirled it without a care in the world. Michael caught his breath and tried calling her back to give them a moment and voice some complaints, but he was summarily ignored. Meanwhile, Star hummed the tune of her people. Michael sighed in exasperation.

c110abf44cf14dffe76bd60c52f54b31.png

Matt was catching his breath, sitting on the walkway a little bit as he tried to stabilize himself after the sudden flight, holding his head a bit. He still wasn't puking which was good, or really ant other form of waste. His knuckles were however white from how firm he was gripping his bow. "Wooo.... Back on the horse I guess. All this to find a fortune teller. I tell you, some things don't need the effort we give em." He said, reaching over and grabbing Jareth to help him up, standing up with a pant and walking after michael to not get left behind, huffing a bit as he put his bow around his back. "This going to be easier from here on?" He asked Michael as he approached, turning back to their allies.

"You guys doing alright?" He asked with a raised eyebrow, looking at jareth a moment before turning his attention more to the merchant since he hadn't checked in on that one for a while. "You doing alri-... Oh.... That's not good." He muttered, seeing the vomit on the mans jacket and hand, turning away a little bit. He wasn't quite ready to just look at vomit, hoping things were gonna to get a lot less exciting from then on.

Capital City Aslan

The amount of time that Cleo has spent in the world wasn't much in the grand scheme of things, but this moment of time must've been the most ridiculous situation he ever had. There was no doubt that the city was beautiful, but that fact was dampened by the various loops and aerial maneuvers he had to go through. At one point, his eyes started to hurt from trying to follow the movement of the scenes, and he had to close his eyes for a bit. Unfortunately, the moment he opened his eyes back, he was met with a fast approaching flow of water.

Cleo wanted to wash off the vomit from his coat, but never did he thought the girl would give him a "hand" by flying through water at high speeds. It did help with the vomit issue, but the stain held on. And then his eyes widened as he saw a tornado fast approaching, or rather, he saw himself approach it fast. "Oh lord of all beyond the skies, don't tell me-" Then the group was sent to said tornado, narrowly avoiding other flyers along the way. He struggled to keep his eyeglasses on his face, and was gritting his teeth as he went through the ordeal. The wind did help him dry a little, but it wasn't enough to completely remove the wetness from his entire person.

Eventually, the group came to an abrupt halt. Cleo had lived on the ground all his life, so when he was suddenly thrown to the ground, he was so disoriented that he struggled to stay straight and stumbled around the ground like a drunkard. He couldn't find his bearing, and vertigo filled his vision. "That was..." he wheezed "...I don't know how to describe it." The flight had been scenic, sure, but he was conflicted with how much one needed to be comfortable with three dimensional movement just to enjoy it. It was thrilling, yet it left him with an even deeper love for the earth below. He looked at the cheerful girl, and there was only a feeling of defeat inside him as she went on without a care in the world.

He heard one of them ask about him, and he answered him while looking at the ground. "I'm fine. Just..." He took a deep breath and finally regained enough orientation to stand up with effort. "I'm just in a little... stain problem." He said, looking at the coat in his hand. He then sighed, knowing that he'd have to buy new clothes. He looked at the girl, and then at the rest of the group. "I'm ready whenever you are." he said, already tired from his first experience in the Duchy. He tidied himself and his hair as he waited for the rest of his companions.

The trick to being a passenger in a fast moving mode of transportation was to have full faith that your driver will somehow avoid an accident. Jareth had no such faith in the small magical girl currently barreling them through the air around the Duchy. Having vomited already, he could count his blessings that the "worst" was already over...short of crashing into something and dying. Then again that might be a blessing to no longer have to endure this prolonged near-death experience.

Jareth had whirled back around somehow, preferring not to look at the person he'd just vomited on for the remainder of the ride. Not like he was seeing much with his eyes clamped shut anyway, but even while dying, curiosity gets the best of us sometimes. The Duchy largely manifested as a blur of color when Jareth chanced a peek, but occasionally he was able to focus on an object or a place or a feature before it disappeared into the blur of passing color once again. Most of his first experiences of the Duchy were ascertained through the sense of touch. His small frame was enduring an onslaught of sensations as he was whipped this way and that. He randomly became wet at one point, then was violently stirred by hurricane-force winds until he was semi dry again. Shortly after that Jareth felt himself begin to decelerate.

Chancing another peek, he saw the world beginning to pass in less of a blur as they approached an enclosed walkway. As the force propelling them relented and set them surprisingly gently on the path, Jareth was further surprised to find that he landed on his feet. Though he had strength to stand, he found himself willingly falling to his knees as he burst into uncontrollable laughter. Further collapsing with his chest on the ground he began patting and rubbing the ground as his laughter continued. When Matt came over to help him to his feet, Jareth was crying again through his laughter.

"It's odd." Jareth said as he began to compose himself. "After I vomited, that nightmarish ride was almost enjoyable. Still, I think I'll always prefer carriages."

Michael was about to chase after Star as she marched off, but stumbled and then heard the grumblings of those in the party. Letting the pink speed demon go for the moment, he turned to his party and tried to regain some control of the situation.

"Sorry guys. The correspondence I had through the guild with this city did not say anything about how the city portal was situated in the sky or how we would be brought down. I was just told we would have a guide to help us in our search as thanks in part for the rabbit hunt we did,"

Michael explained apologetically before bowing head briefly and making a prayer gesture.

"Come on. Despite how things have gone so far, Star is the only one among us that knows her way around the city. This feels like a dangerous place to get lost in..."

Michael commented as he urged the party to follow him. He was in the process of looking for the short, pink guide when a guy dropped to the walkway infront of him, face first. Apparently he and his companion were naruto running upside down on the level above theirs. Apparently, his magic ran out first or was inadequate. Dangerous place indeed.

Not far up ahead, the party would find Star declaring loudly to all within ear shot how good her food was and she moaned several times suggestively as she writhed on the stool next to the bar of the food stall.

"Must be...good...?"

Michael thought out loud with a displeased expression as he approached. The stall said "Fish Forecast: fish so good, you can see the future". The stall seemed to offer unbreaded grilled pieces of fish and deshelled shellfish. They served them with a golden sauce of some kind. When Star Delta wasn't saying "mmmm" and "Oh God!", she was slamming golden sauced shrimps into her face like there was no tomorrow. Her lips looked shiny and glossed and her eyes shimmered excitedly when she noticed the party was arriving.

"This is our first stop. The fish here are divine. I think a few more of these shrimps and i'll be able to see the future, myself. Have some!"

She tried to share, but before she got far, the stall owner asked grumpily if she was with the party. Apparently she had started a tab while waiting on the party saying she was just a guide and expenses were to be covered by the client. Star licked and sucked the last bits of the golden sauce off her fingers, unaffected by Michael's glares.

Cleo fixed his clothing, still with his coat hanging by his arm, before turning his attention to Michael. He smiled affably and waved it off. "It's fine. I've had my fair share of eccentricities. You do not need to worry." He followed Michael, occasionally turning his head to check up on the rest of the group. He then looked around, apparently not having enough of the city yet. Some peculiar fellows fell right in front of them, but Cleo chalked it up to the Duchy's weird culture.

Just when he was still recovering from all that happened, the girl once again dampened his joy by immediately putting financial pressure on the group. Not that he was that bothered with putting a dent on his pockets—rarely would a food trip do anyway—but the implication that the supposed guide would use their position to help themselves at the group's expense was a little unreasonable. Of course with no other known way of finding what they're supposed to be here for, Cleo could only suck it up. He went over to the vendor and gave them the money needed to buy off the girl's tab, as well as a bit more for each of his colleagues if they ever needed to eat some. "Please, Ms. Star Delta. I'm not opposed to expenses involving food, but I can only spare my finances to trivial things such as this. I hope we're not going to buy something bigger than souvenirs or... food." He said, concern clear in his face and voice. He then helped himself to a serving of the grilled fish, and was surprised at how delicious it was, but wasn't sure if it was worth any gushing for.

"So uh, who's gonna foot this bill? I think most of us have some extra funds from the rabbit hunt. This shouldn't be too expensive right?" Matt said with a small raise of his eyebrow, slowly looking over the booth. "And don't worry about it Michael. None of us could have expected Sailor Moon." He whispered toward their parties leader, humming a bit as he put his bow around his back. He walked over to the food that had been ordered, deciding to give it a quick Appraise first, not trusting it entirely. He didn't like magic things. The last time he'd had an intimate experience with something magical, he got a pair of rabbit ears and a horn. And he didn't like having more than just that added to his body.

"Ah, thanks Cleo." Matt said with a small salute to the merchant, giving appropriate thanks to the one willing to foot the bill on their guides expenditure. "Well, I don't think we'll be expending any funds on our own accord. At least, until we find the Diviner we're looking for." Matt said with a hum, putting his hands in his pockets. "Make sure to keep up Jareth, this fish won't be here forever. Course, unless they used magic for that too." He said, waiting for his appraise results to come back.

Jareth took a deep breath as he had finally steadied himself. He looked to Michael for instruction, but understandably, Michael was a bit out of his league here in Aslan, seemingly being at the mercy of their guide's whims. The pink mopped one had found her way to a food stall serving some sort of fish that was incredibly delicious if her rapturous squealing was any indication. Having been freshly emptied himself, Jareth was ready for at least a small bite to eat. Maybe not too much food if Star was going to fling them across the city again....

As the young artisan made for the stall, a solitary individual landed on the ground in front of him. Jareth recoiled in suprise and stared for a moment, wide-eyed at the crumpled body before him.

"A-Are you alright...?" he asked timidly, hoping the individual wasn't dead.

Matt couldn't appraise the overall deliciousness of the shrimp or sauce, but they both seemed to be made from edible ingredients. One thing of note that both Cleo and Matt would note though was the golden sauce had flakes of blue mithril floating in it. Matt would be able to discern the weak but present enchantment on the flakes that gave the sauce an orgasmic effect. Cleo would feel it mainly in the pocket book. The precious metal incredient hiked up the price much more than a typical plate of shellfish should cost. It was just shy of buying new adventurer equipment.

Meanwhile, the failed youth that fell, having ran out of mana, instantly sprang to his feet and looked around with a crazed expression. His face was red, likely brusing, and a bit of blood trickled from his nose.

"Get back! I have the power of Yugioh, Jesus, and Pokemon combined!"

He declared has he started to swing around some num-chuks he pulled from his waist band. Other strangers in the street just ignored the exchange and kept walking. The young man started making kungfu noises as he twirled his weapon. In his enthusiasm, he clocked himself in the head and stumbled over the railing he was next to in his dumbfounded state. Jareth could hear the buffering sound of his body bouncing off the crosswalk barriers of streets below. Would likely break his fall enough he wouldn't die. Probably...

Star Delta licked the last of the gold from her lips and shivered in delight as she cozied up to Cleo and the wondering things he said. Taking one of his arms in hers and clutching it to her flat chest, Cleo would find himself being hit with [Super Cute Star Power of Peace Love and Sparkle - C grade]. (a magically enhanced charming ability. Without sufficient mental blocking abilities, the party could be in trouble...)

"Dear, client, worry not. I have no intention to waste your time or hard earned credits. All will be spent most productively in our fair city of Aslan on nothing but the best of services and products! I guarantee it"

Star declared triumphantly in her high pitched voice full of joy and sunshine accompanied by another disarming burst of giggles. Star would proceed to tug at Cleo and start leading the party to the next of a series of locations. While all related in some form or fashion to future telling, they were not what Michael and crew were looking for. What's more, they all seemed to conveniently revolve around tasty treats and souvenir items for tourists.

Michael was growing visibly impatient. He thanked Cleo profusely for his presence, but Star seemed to be having the time of her life while the party was getting dragged about on her whims and the search was not yet productive or even promising. Despite his growing desire to sigh and glare, he started getting that stupid tune stuck in his head. "...fighting evil by moonlight..."

"Now you're getting it!"

Cleo was peacefully eating when he noticed the small blue flakes in the sauce. He paused, and used his Eye of Midas to appraise the flakes, and what he saw left him baffled and sweating buckets. Their intense glitter meant that they were high-value ingredients. After turning his ability off, he found their sheen familiar, and as someone associated with the Merchant's Guild, he was aware of a lot of materials and goods. One of them was mithril. It could only mean that he has been eating little flakes of high-value metal, and the worst part was that it was edible. Cleo doesn't know if he had the stomach of iron, or magic was involved in the process. Either way, putting magic metal in food wasn't something a sane man would do, at least in where's he's from.

As he was pondering about the prospects of mithril as food, the girl approached him after she finished her food, and Cleo looked at her skeptically. The moment the girl clung to his arm, he felt... different. He wasn't sure, but it wasn't so bad spoiling this girl. After all, he wasn't averse to spending a few coins just to make some people happy, or satisfied at least. He gave the girl a helpless smile as if she was the little sister he never had, as he was dragged around stalls and shops. Whenever he needed to pay, he would pay without question. But as the amount he bought accumulated, he became more and more worried about his own finances. Unfortunately, he thought there was nothing wrong and shrugged it off as needless worry. He already had a separate budget for the diviner anyways, he only had to not touch it.

Cleo turned his head and gave Michael an apologetic nod of his head. "It's fine, but it seems like we're going to have to stay a little bit later than we're supposed to." Although it wasn't his intention, he couldn't help but prioritize their guide and her wants.

To Jareth's relief, the fallen individual sprang up at his approach but spoke incoherently before unleashing a weapon of some sort. He began making odd noises as he brandished the coupled batons, twirling them recklessly around his person. Jareth cowered slightly, raising his hands to show he meant no harm, as the frenzied swinging continued briefly before the guy whacked himself square on the head. He teetered and tottered like a drunk as he staggered backwards. Jareth watched in stunned silence as he tumbled over the guardrail. Rushing to the railing, Jareth helplessly stared at the fellow as he flopped from one pathway barrier to the next as he plummeted to whatever ground there was below...assuming there WAS ground, that is. Unsure as to whether he had just witnessed someone fall to their death or not, the artisan smiled nervously as he looked around to read the room. No one else seemed to pay the incident much attention. Jareth looked back to where he had last seen the poor guy before he fell out of sight. One thing was certain: if he's still alive, Jareth wanted that kind of resilience.

Leaving the railing he joined the others at the food stall. It seemed that their companion Cleo was footing the bill, so Jareth saw no harm in sampling the food. His diet of mostly bread was put to shame when Michael first treated him to a meal, so his appetite had been whetted for new delicacies to try. The fish had an interesting appearance, and Star's over-the-top reactions had him eager to try it for himself. Slipping a morsel into his mouth, his eyes sprang open. He was silent for a long moment as he slowly chewed the soft, warm flesh.

"This...is the best thing I've ever tasted...." Jareth said softly as his eyes teared up.

For some reason, it made him think of his parents. They had never dreamed of creating a dish even remotely close to this extravagant taste, but they were linked to his earliest memories of being excited for food. Mom would catch an animal or find some new plant and concoct something to amaze his developing taste buds. Tasting great new food was an experience that had been missing from Jareth's life for quite some time. Had he felt he deserved only bland tastes after what happened? Was it a way of keeping himself from remembering? He wasn't sure now as he swallowed his first bite and eagerly reached for more.

Unfortunately his minimal eating habits had diminished his stomach's capacity, so he filled up fairly quickly. Just in time too as Star was getting chummy with Cleo and tugging him, and by extension the group, off to the next thing. The quirky Duchy native definitely knew her way around...to all the food stalls at least. Occasionally, a tourist shop. The divination practitioner had yet to be revealed though as the lunch hour came and went.

While the gang had stopped at one particular stall, a nearby shop caught Jareth's eye. It was a small eyeglass shop. The signage was more flamboyant than anything he had ever seen in Ryken, but what drew him were the sample lenses in the window: monocles, eyeglasses, telescopes, goggles, even some sets that appeared more like masquerade masks than prescription lenses. Not just corrective eyewear but all manner of vision enhancing tools were laid out for preview. Jareth glanced at the party and saw them to be occupied still, so he ventured inside the shop.

Matt saw the little pieces of metal, deciding since it had already been purchased there was no reason to not give it a try, taking a few bites to see what all the hubub was about, his eyes widening at the taste as he started to eat a bit quicker, amazed with how the magic enhanced the flavor, finishing his portion that he had mentally put aside for himself in a way he figured would be good enough to let everyone have some. "Yeah. Magic is definitely cheating." He said, shaking his head as he put aside the thought, getting affected by the magic. Which, his willingness to help make the small guide happy being the only reason he didn't suggest ditching her. He hated shopping sprees.

Matt followed along, boredom on his face while he kept his hands in his pockets. He walked along, sighing to himself as he fidgeted with his bow. He hated shopping trips, but he guessed if this was the only way to get the diviner he would follow along. The little girls charm magic didn't make his annoyance go away, but it did prevent him from showing it for fear of upsetting the little sister looking girl. "So, do we have any idea what a diviner actually does? Because it seems like a lot of roles follow under that title." He said to Michael, his hands in his pockets while he looked over at the other two enthralled party members. "No worries Cleo, no reason for us to rush." He said in reply to the merchants comment, looking around while he saw Jareth walking towards the eyeglass shop.

Between the souvenir items and the food, Cleo would start getting full hands as things needed carried. Whether it was leftovers snacks for Delta or cute outfits for Delta, they each had a carrier bag and/or container. Michael refused to carry anything and wondered why Cleo was being so indulgent to Star in the first place. However, it got to the point where Cleo couldn't carry anymore and Michael had to chip in or Star would get sad and pouty. She would start to say things like,

"I don't remember the way now."

or

"I must be a horrible guide. I can't help anyone."

Whatever fit she would through if the party stalled at all to follower in on your whims, there was time wasted coaxing her into being helpful again and generally turned into more money spent. Michael could swear they were being played, but he couldn't say anything because he didn't feel confident enough to do so. If he was wrong, it could jeopardize the mission. If he was right, they might still lose the guide, the one and only currently assigned to them. Asking strangers on the street might help, but not nearly as much as a local giving up their time for the cause.

Walking out of a store with more bags, he saw Jareth walking into another store across the street. Wasn't as tall as the others, but it had a unique design where telescopes and several other lens bearing items decorated the exterior.

"Come on everyone. Let's check this one out,"

Michael said to the party and started walking over to the shop. It's name seemed promising to some degree. Perhaps it was just a glasses store, but it couldn't be worse than any of the other shops visited and this one might actually have useful items in it even if not the services quested for. Inside the shop was a bit more space. Rather than rows of overstocked shelves of confusing items, this store was minimal with have a few tables out on display with examples of the various items they can produce. Several things were a custom order apparently. Once could request a specific lens item and get special enchantments on it. Was a popular choice for those wishing to augment their vision or correct bad eyes. For those needing a more specific item, they had several of those as well: telescopes, chemistry sets, cookware, all manner of eye pieces, decorative items, and even certain tools. The details were getting explained to Jareth after he walked in.

When Jareth entered, he was quickly approached by a woman with covered eyes. She moved quietly and with perfect posture. She spoke as if answer questions Jareth had asked but he had yet to say anything.

"In addition, we offer other services to the discerning customer. Not all things our clients wish to see can be made visible in common glass,"

Her last words were caught by the party as they entered. Whether it was on purpose or completely coincidence, what she said immediately grabbed Michael's attention. The woman smirked briefly. Her smooth, silky words had a similar effect as Star Delta's eyes. Star pouted in the corner ever since the party veered off her route. Her mood passed when she some something pretty and sparkly.

"Those other services, you mentioned. Could you tell us more about them?"

Michael asked of the shop attendant before turning to Cleo with an expectant look. It wasn't clear to Michael what was necessary, but perhaps Cleo would get to the bottom of some of this and quicken their path to getting what they need or determining if this place has such services. Meanwhile Matt would note some of the items available were items called scopes. They could be specially used to see far away and gauge distances. A useful tool for someone wishing to spot for someone else shooting long range.

Jareth entered the small shop to find a neatly arrayed store. Glass cases around the exterior held much more than the various types of lenses in the display window out front. Indeed, this shop supplied all manner of tools for surveying the world at all levels, some of which were beyond the natural realm.

"Yes, there are many types of sight beyond what the naked eye can offer." Spoke the woman at the counter as she approached. "Though an artisan like yourself may have already guessed as much."

Though her eyes were covered, the woman's words hinted that her vision was better than Jareth's despite his lenses. He started to ask her how she knew he was an artisan when she continued, gesturing to her store.

"Look around you. Surrounded by all these tools for vision, what sort of shopkeeper would I be if my own eyes weren't keen enough to assist my customers? Now, you will find our mundane corrective lenses in this case. Enchanted eyewear is along that wall. Finally, over here we have items to assist in seeing things further afield."

She slipped in a final insinuation as the door opened. Michael and company had arrived.

"Oh, sorry, guys. I saw this shop, and it reminded me of home, so I just wanted to peek inside." Jareth said apologetically.

The trip had been a fun experience for Cleo, at least that's what he thought. He was able to see a lot of new things that did not really exist in Ryken. It was a whole new culture that he could familiarize himself with, all the while already thinking of ways to put this new experience to his advantage. The amount of things he carried got too ridiculous at some point, so he had to apologetically ask for Michael for help, which he did oblige much to Cleo's gratitude. There were also times where the girl would pout had Cleo and Michael trying to coax her, but he didn't mind as he had fun doing so. Then Michael prompted a suggestion, a glass shop, to which Cleo nodded. It was odd though, how he didn't notice Jareth branch off from the group. However, he thought that he must've been a bit too focused to Star Delta to let that fact slip by his notice. He shook his head helplessly in admonishment to himself, before following Michael to the shop.

Cleo was already struggling to get inside when he entered the shop due to the amount of things he was holding. He looked at Jareth who was apologizing, but Cleo was fine with it. "Don't worry. Just like what Matt said, no rush." Hearing the woman's and Michael's words, he turned his head to look at him, and saw his expectant eyes. Judging from the words of the woman, he quickly guessed that the woman already knew what they were here for. She might be the diviner they were looking for. However, he had to make sure. "Ah right. We would like to know what these services are. We don't really know what we want right now." He said with a smile, but his eyes were staring deeply at the woman's blindfolds. It was a simple lie, and depending on her answer, he would be able to discern her identity.

Speaking of blindfolds, she shouldn't be able to see with those covering her eyes. He assumed that they were normal, but if it were magical, it should have a relatively high value, wouldn't it? With that in mind, he looked at her with his Eye of Midas, intending to find out if her blindfold was valuable or not.

Michael

Michael nodded his head excitedly as Cleo spoke up and Delta behaved herself. Past couple hours were wasted in his eyes, but this finally felt like progress. Depending on how well it went, this could be mission cleared for them. Michael would hope for the best while keeping an eye on the shop to ensure nothing would go wrong. A few times he moved over to Star Delta and wrestle with her to not touch all the "Pretty Love Sparkle Crystals" or something. It felt like Star Delta was letting some of her facade slip when she twisted Michael's thumb and bit him a time or two as the struggled.

"Hmph, curious of services you may not need for a purpose you do not know?"

The woman laughed light and brief but Cleo would feel like the woman could see through him in the same way he could see through the quality of her clothes. Despite the modesty in her attire, Cleo could see all were of expensive cuts and materials. They were likely very light and breeze to wear while extremely soft and comfortable on the skin. The shop, or at least this employee, seemed to be doing quite well for themselves.

Michael, thinking he was helping, piped up when he heard Cleo say he didn't know what they were there for.

"Did I not explain it already? We are here to find a diviner for our client. She needs to look into her past and only a skilled enough Diviner could accomplish such a task. Most fortune tellers and star readers only explain the future."

Michael wasn't a moment done before Star shoved a hand in his face to push him out of the way. The employee of the company nodded her head sagely and solemnly replied,

"Yes, it is true what you seek is a skilled practitioner in the arts of seeing beyond the here and now. It is also true we have such skilled practitioners here in our employ. For the right price, we can reveal to the customer whatever it is they wish to see."

Cleo would pick up on her phrasing of the 'right price' and knew he would need to somehow strike a bargain with them to secure their services for the client, Regula.

As far as Jareth could tell, the 'shop talk' had begun. Cleo was more than capable of handling that himself, and Michael had the particular details of the request memorized to keep the conversation on track. There wasn't much for Jareth to offer to the conversation at this point. Although when talk of seeing past and future came up, he was more than a little intrigued. The idea of seeing his future would be nice as a way of seeing what he might need to look into. Even so, he yearned to see the past even more. Images of his parents would be nice. Remembering them is one thing, but to see them perfectly rendered as they were would be....

A looking glass lying on one of the glass cases caught Jareth's eye. It was a handheld sort lying on its face, exposing its decorative back. The mirror was encased in a kind of ivory-like substance carved into what looked to be fruits of some kind at distance. As Jareth drew closer, he realized that the "fruits" were actually eyes in various states of opening. All these centered around a larger central eye which was wide open, unblinkingly gazing at the ceiling of the shop.

An inexplicable urge caused Jareth to carefully pick up the looking glass. It had an unexpected weight to it relative to its size. Jareth gazed at the eye a moment before turning it over and gazing at his reflection. Nothing new. He was still the young, four-eyed man he's always been. There was a patch of sand on his cheek, he noticed, which he promptly brushed away. As he did so, he saw the face of his reflection fall away as sand where he had brushed. An unpleasant sinking feeling pulled at the pit of Jareth's stomach. His reflection stared back in kind, almost as though it were mocking him. Suddenly, his entire reflection fell away in a cloud of sand. Jareth's hand unexpectedly released its grip on the mirror as it fell to the floor.
