Hill country, usually quiet and peaceful, isolated and serene, was now ablaze. Embers filled the air, burning stark against the night as pillars of flame rose into the air. Screams echoed off of the rolling hills and the scent of blood was carried on the wind down to the nearby river. Being a small, isolated village, Riverend had very little in the way of assistance or protection and a majority of their bravest militia men and women laid half eaten on the ground.

The night had begun like any other, quiet with the sound of bugs chirping in the distance and just beneath your window sill. Mothers had begun to put their children to sleep, fathers put away their work equipment, and the church bells tolled to mark the midnight hour. The long day had just begun to wind down when the first odd sound broke the silence and the ground was shaken.

Right away the village leaders rushed out to see what had happened, accompanied by the village’s militia who were armed with swords and shields. They watched the plume of smoke rise upward and listened to the sounds of bones crushing and people whimpering. Although they were unnerved by the sound, the group drew closer and the leaders demanded those within present themselves. What emerged from the destruction was a monster the likes of which they had never seen. With tendrils whipping around, claws scratching at the earth, and a body hanging from its mouth, the monster was a sight akin to death. The residents were filled with dread, but still threw themselves upon the creature at the command of the village leaders. While outnumbered, the monster was able to keep track of its attackers with its extra eyes.

While the militia stalled for time, the village leaders started to prepare for an evacuation, but they did so by waking their own families first. Those lucky few were hurried to the river with wooden boats to carry them to safety. While on the other side of town, the monster ripped through the militia after breaking their morale with fear. Once they stopped supporting one another they were easy for it to pick off one by one. It was then that the other citizens emerged from their homes and became aware of what was happening.

Like a hungry beast the monster ripped through the village, cleaving citizens in two and destroying anything that got in its way. And thus began the long night of Riverend. In the center of the village, several of the fathers played decoy to the beast while a trail of torches lined the hillside down to the river. The woman, children, and elders attempted to escape, cramming as many as possible into their limited number of boats. 1657325374902.png

Back in the village, the men waved their torches around, trying to keep the monster at a distance while also trying to keep its attention. The many eyes that dotted the creature’s body kept watch on each of the men, soaking in their despaired expressions. “Shuten-Doji” He growled in the native monster tongue. “I…Hunger” He continued in a deep tone. Then he caught sight of the torches in the distance, fleeing the village and racing towards the water. “My…food…escapes!” Although they could not understand the monster, the men knew that the voice was that of a frustrated creature and that they needed to act, so they hurled their torches at the monster, but did not draw its attention. Like a predator in the wild, Shuten-Doji darted towards the escape path. It seemed there would be no survivors of this ordeal.

Veein

Veein let out a loud roar as the excitment of bloody screams, cries and whimpers filled the air. In a swift moment he ran to where the continuing screams came from surronding his hearing as he laughed from the bloodsplatter and pain that would soon come to him, oh howlong he craved for a massive fight where he would get the opportunity to slaughter everything and everyone.

As the screams and cries got louder and louder so did his loud and spirit breaking rours did two until he enterd the isolated village , the town was in panic like something caused it. Though that thought he recently just had would have to wait as he saw a man with a torch running away from whatever caused this massive panic. As he got closer and closer Veëin amushed the soon to be dead man, picking up his greatsword and decapitated the man. Blood spewing from his head as Veëins glowing red eyes stared at another man, he let out a roar louder then the roar he heard from nearby and ran towards the next man grabbing his head with his overwhelming strength and looked at the mans eye, slowly opening his mouth as it made a loud CREEEEEAAAAK noise before chompinng on the mans head.

He smiled wickedly as he turned his head to see another monster that cause the towns panic, he turnerd and opened his mouth letting out a loud roar as blood spewed out his mouth , the roar was not hostile but clearly asking if the monster was a freind or foe.

"MI MI MI MINE ALL MINE! MY FOODWILLINGG TO SHARE FOOD IF FREIND! AHHAHA!"

d8t1sk1-e6e47dbd-11d0-413e-9117-4e1e420587be.png Despite the dark, a light shone in the sky. It was unlike the stars for it rose up into the air, rather than hang upon the tapestry of the night sky. Yet, its beauty was equal to even the gleaming jewels of the cosmos. This single glimmer climbed higher and higher as if to meet them. He looked out the window watching its ascension. A detached air clung to him as he stood away from the others. Isolating himself. It was strange however, for the life of him he could not recall why he was here or how had even got here. "Goodbye, whoever you are." He spoke aloud, seeming both dismissive and reverent. What? He didn't say that... but it was his voice and he knew it was his own words.

"L-" —he gripped his head in pain, while a ringing sounded out in his ears— "Nachtum, you can see the light, can't you?" He turned to look behind himself. Meeting the eyes of a young woman, her hair a lightly toned brown. The bright hue a tell tale sign of her native land. She smiled at him her eyes matching his own blue color, yet they appeared far more vibrant and dazzling to behold. "So do I." The woman too, turns to the light. "They say th-" —again pain shoots through his skull to the point where he almost want to pass out. He puts his hand to his head, as flashes of something indecipherable raced through his mind—"...welcome the souls of the dead. When that happens, a bright light will shine down through the sky over the land of the dead." The woman continued to speak seemingly ignoring Nachtums plight. She appeared pensive, then slowly turned to Nachtum. "Few people have seen that light. Those who do see it are bestowed power from the land of the dead..." She looked to him with an inquisitive expression. "Did you receive any power from them?" He moved as if acting out a scene. He sat down upon a nearby cushioned bench looking exasperated.

"Not at all. I don't need a power like that. I'm fine as I am."
He looked up once again into the sky. "Besides, I don't like seeing it..." The woman glanced at him then began to pace with her hands behind her back.

"I wonder... why are there people who can see it and others who can't? I keep thinking, that that has some special meaning." He appeared puzzled as he mulled over her words.

"The meaning... of being able to see it?"
He raised his head to her, but she was gone. At first he looked around in confusion then shock as he realized he was alone. Everyone else at the party was gone. Then he heard a distant rumble, and one last time his eyes were brought to the window. Outside there was not one light, but hundreds all rising higher and higher into the sky. And the sky itself began to open up revealing the heavens gathering them all. Below the radiant display, the city burned.

Nachtum shot up, his bleary eyes darting around. Before realizing his surroundings. "A dream? But, it felt so real..." He had been sleeping upon the hard ground, his wanderings having brought him to a hilled country town. Riverend they called it. Not wanting to bother with interacting with the people he had merely sequestered himself to an hidden spot he could sleep before continuing on. His stomach growled. Right, food. He sighed sitting up cradling his sword in his hands. Holding the weapon invigorated him even if only slightly, and it helped take his mind off his mounting hunger. The mechanized sword was a cherished item but it was a bittersweet reminder of his current state.

Resolving himself he rose from his seated position deciding that he may come across some samaritan willing to share food, since he had no money with which to buy it. He looked up realizing night had fallen during his rest. Originally he had meant to take a nap, but sleep had claimed him. "Dammit." Choosing to test his luck anyway he moved deeper into the more populated part of town. Though at this time of day it was bound to have less and less people outside their homes. Letting the drowsiness slowly leave him he walked, though in his addled state he could just barely make out some strange sounds and something like a whine beginning to fill the air. He wiped his tired eyes before a ball of starlight appeared in front of his face. He started at it in surprise, and then with grim realization as it rose into the sky. He looked down at his feet. Where upon the ground laid an eviscerated corpse of a man. His voice hitched in his throat. "W-what happened here?" He was stunned and horrified though he did his best to mask this. He clenched the hilt of his blade tighter. Screams began to fill the air, along with the smell of smoke. His eyes narrowed as he steeled himself. Hefting his sword he ran towards the screams, all the while he could see the light rising into the sky from the bodies he would pass. Each one only pushed him to move faster.

By the time he reached the source he was winded and panting. He knew his body couldn't handle much, yet he had pushed it anyway. It didn't matter though, not while people were dying. He came up to a large figure, and as he got closer the tearing of flesh and gnashing of teeth reached his ears. As he beheld the creature from which the sounds and death originated his eyes widened and he grit his teeth. "A Daemon!?" He didn't recognize this kind in particular. But there was no mistaking what it was, the creatures had terrorized their people since their very beginning. Now somehow one had made it here, all the way across the sea. He came up upon the Daemon, who was surrounded by the towns men trying to ward it away, despite wielding nothing but torches. That might work for a random predator that wandered in but not this thing. He ran past them, towards the Daemon. All the while yelling back at them. "Get out of my way! I'll deal with this, you get those people to safety!" The Daemon then began to speak, surprising Nachtum. It may have been in garbles and strangely intoned, but he recognized the language as one similar to his own. "This damn things got a name? Shuten-Doji... the hell does that even mean!?" The monster seemed to catch onto the towns men's ploy. As it ignored them in favor of the far more vulnerable people in the process of trying to escape. It moved to chase after them. "I don't think so!" The Daemon was still a way away but he could handle that. He let go of his blade, and with his magic willed it forward. It shot through the air before placing itself directly into the beasts path. Blocking it from moving briefly. Letting his sword float there threateningly he stood before Shuten-Doji. His eyes were narrowed dangerously as he glared at the beast. "Say your prayers, cause I won't be holding back!" He was saying this but he knew his chances weren't great. He would need his sword to stand much of a fighting chance as one glancing hit could potentially put him out the fight for good. He would have to use the sword enchantments, but even then it would be a short-lived boost. He stood still as he studied the monster waiting for it to make its move. Then he saw another figure descend from behind the creature decapitating a townsmen before biting the head off another suddenly. This monster was armored and wielded a massive great sword coated in blood. It let out a bestial roar. Nachtum stood his ground his gaze as steel and his resolve unwavering. "Ah, shit..."

It had been a nice day, really, sure it was abit chilly but in truth he quite liked the lovely gentle caress of the wind. Oliver had stopped in the town for a brief visit, well, not so much visit as opposed to needing to rest his weary feet. It had been a strange week, his travels brought him through wood and dale.. or he supposed he went over a dale, what even was a dale? Eh, he was fine either way, the scenery was quite nice.

In return for lodgings, he had taken up a small healer role, he'd given out mostly advice thus far, but the village largely lacked any need for magical healing. Which he was best at, just.. Well.. it wasn't refined much... But.. he was happy to have the ability to do so... Thankfully as well he had time to rest before night fall.

All was good.

He even got more used to his... Sudden change of style...

He had no real say in the matter in truth, imagine waking up one morning and suddenly your going blonde. Your eyes golden, your skin pales... At first he was certain he was sick.. though.. The fact he was feeling better than before was... Abit of a pull to the opposite. He was getting better, his trials and tribulations making him stronger, in a sense. The blond man currently was taking in the cool night air, a distant ringing in his ears kept him awake... A distant rumble in his gut that said something was off... But... In truth... he hadn't known what it could be.

He kept his staff nearby, mostly as a walking stick, but... The rumbling in his gut again.. something told him to be ready...

Hmm...

Hmmm....

...That roar didn't sound good, neither did the fires look good. Whatever was happening...? ...Ah... there it was... No... There were a few... One had dealt some damage already it seems. And another was....

Ah...

Looks like that young man was in trouble... Best he help him. brave sort, going up against a beast, brave or foolish, but any fighters are better than none. It looks like he had work ahead himself... Ah.. Hopefully others come. The elven man began his steps forwards from the hut he had been residing in for the time, his light robes not much in armor, but good enough to keep out the cold. His golden hair danced in the light wind and movement, left hand dancing in the air before him, light glowing from the finger tips as sparks of golden incantation drawing sigils of magic upon the air as if it were a chalkboard.

"Good evening young man, hope this old man isn't stealing your thunder." the spoke to Nachtum, though he didn't know his name. His eyes were to the monsters ahead, unpleasant as they were... Horrendous beasts, but not worthy of such a title, they were abberrant monstrosities that bare no peace or kindness. So they invite upon the world around them, so that they gain in kind...

"Strike with force, strike with vigor, upon your arms shall my magic linger..." he spoke in a sing song voice, as the magic burst forwards, upon allied presences in this combat, dis-including the monsters entirely, he granted increased strength.

Maikoa was in the town as well, guided to wander here by her instincts. She had no purpose here other than whatever her body told her to do. And right now, it was telling her to assist the monsters. She simply stood there, watching the townspeople run, unmoving as she watched them flee in terror, making no move to attack. But rather, she saw the two large monsters she was with, a twitch of annoyance in her brow as she heard the enormous roar from her armored companion. She simply turned, looking towards the roads end, seeing the two adventurers that were approaching. They looked familiar, but she could not place why. She supposed it was simply because they were similar to those adventurers from the town her treent brothers attacked. Upon seeing their approach, she slowly stepped into an alleyway, speaking to the other monsters present once she was out of sight.

"Brothers, there are foes approaching." She said, staying out of sight of said adventurers. She had no intent to do anything to the adventurers herself, however, she would hold them in place for her companions to attack. She had no doubt the adventurers would somehow be alerted to her presence however, with how the people screamed of a plague spreader entering the village. She had nothing to do with the plague in Vegard, but the humans put the blame on her. She should have known those who were not monsters were lying to her when they said that her presence would be forgiven. She was blamed for the whole event in the end. She didn't like being in the spotlight. However, when the adventurers approached she would sneak up on them like so many times before. Hit and run tactics were her forte.

His pursuit of the escaping citizens was thrilling, exhilarating even. Watching their panicked faces look back as they pushed their bodies to run as fast as possible. Hearing the people down by the river call out to the loved ones who were nearly in his grasp made him chuckle. Death would be upon them soon. Or so he thought. Just as he reached out to grab at a woman, a voice came from back in the village, a monster's voice. Some lonesome fool had dared to lay claim to his prize, to his feast and had the courage to offer to share, as if he had done any of the work. Shuten-Doji's claws carved into the ground as his anger climbed higher. "Raargh!!" He let out a menacing scream, bellowing into the night wind that carried it back to the village and down to the river where the last of the people were beginning to cram themselves into the last of the boats.

Before he could return to the village, his many eyes spotted a sword dart past him and block his path. A feminine voice warned of encroaching threats and then the master of the sword came into view. A mere human. The monster growled, annoyed and irritated now by so many interruptions. But this human was not like the rest; he possessed a proper weapon and demeanor that showed he was not afraid like the others were. Then another figure, this one with pointed ears and fair skin. It would be easy to break.

"I shall devour you both!" Shuten-Doji declared in his monster tongue. His red mane billowed in the night air and his tendrils rose from his back, snaking upward as the monster started to move. Slowly he started to circle the two figures, thinking solely of how he would rip them apart. Without warning his tendrils launched forward like two whips, one aimed for the blonde's throat and the other aimed for the dark-haired man's throat.

Veein would find that the village was not done with him yet. Two men still remained and as the monster was distracted with killing and calling out to other creatures, they hurled their pitchforks at him, one landing directly in front of him and the other grazing his dark armor. "Over here you big, ugly piece of shite!" They called out in a taunting manner. They didn't hesitate to start running the opposite direction, fleeing the village in the hopes the monster would follow them. That was when they would spot, Maikoa and quickly stop. "W-We're under attack." One of the men managed to stutter out as eh realized their village was being invade by the dark continent. Grabbed by his friend and pulled in another random direction, the two men started to run towards Oliver, who had been serving as the village doctor. "They're everywhere!" The men warned, on the verge of hysteria.

Maikoa saw the groups become ready to clash, her eyes looking towards where the groups where near the middle of the street, dodging behind her building to take a back route towards them. Seeing the humans see her, she placed a hand on her hip and leaned closer towards them. "Go. Leave." She told them simply, having no intention of harming them herself, rather allowing them to leave. She simply was there to make sure the obviously younger monsters were not slain here. With this in mind, she watched the men run away, starting to move towards the back alleys, walking calmly towards the altercations.

She watched the starting clash of Shuten's approach, her golden eyes staring from the shadows of the alleyway. She began to approach, stepping out from behind the men and placing her hands upon the ground. She knew who the real threat between the two was, and so she would immobilize him. A mage recognized a mage.
"Let [Life Flow] Forth Mother Earth In These [Entangling Roots]." She whispered in Monster tongue, the fruit at her hip glowing softly with a tender aura, like that of a mother holding her child, as vines burst from the ground underneath Oliver, wrapping around him and holding him in place before growing in size around him from [Life's Flow] effects.

d8t1sk1-e6e47dbd-11d0-413e-9117-4e1e420587be.png Nachtum stared down the Daemons. Calling his sword back to his hand, he hefted the Drive Blade putting himself into a fighting stance. His eyes narrowed as he watched Shuten-Doji. The creature snarling and growling at him. Like the predator of man it was Shuten-Doji began to circle him. He followed it not showing his flank to the monster. Bestial rage and hostility were plainly evident upon the Daemons face. It was then that Nachtum heard a voice followed by a man stepping up to his side. He kept his eyes upon the monster but his mouth parted in surprise at the figure in his peripheral. For but a moment a name came to his lips "Se-" But it faded away, and he could not finish the rest. Besides whoever this person was it wasn't her, he was sure of that now. The mans voice was light and possessed and almost musical quality to it. His hair was of weaved gold, and his features were generally beautiful. One of the more stand out feature being his pointed ears. Nachtum just stared stunned for a moment before the mans words fully registered to him. "Oh, uh no not at all." In his brief surprise he had stammered out his words. A light blush now appearing on his cheeks as he felt some embarrassment.

Then he realized the man had been in the process of casting a spell. And not long after Nachtum suddenly felt a stirring of magic from within him. His bodies muscles feeling... more than they were before. It reminded him of the enhancers within his Drive Blade, but much stronger. He felt like he could lift a Mountoise!

Seeing its opportunity the Daemon which had watched them like a predator, finally struck. The tendrils upon its back shooting out to eviscerate them both. Eyes narrowing he grit his teeth and pressed the switch upon his blade. [Exceed Drive]. The magic within the blade filled his body. Briefly allaying the worst of his condition. And for a brief time his being felt just a bit more whole than before. He raised his blade and tried to parry the tendril away from him. [Caelum Arts Form I- Deflect F]. Seeing the other tendril headed for the blonde haired man Nachtum sprang into action. Using his now enhanced speed to throw his sword into the air then taking control of it with his magic to protect the man. Only for roots to spring from the ground ensnaring the blonde man. Ensuring he would be hit. His eyes widened, but this new obstacle only served to reinvigorate his effort to protect the mage. "Out of my way!" With a look of intensity he could only hope his efforts were successful and that they would survive this battle.

(Entangled, Storyteller says it takes 2 actions to remove, actions taken, moved away from foes.)
Oliver managed to step the lash into a glancing blow, but the suprise entangling that came after came as one might expect, a gods damned suprise. "What!?" he gasped, the roots began to entangle and ensare, his enhanced strength only giving him some headway against them as they furled and snared. "Tsk, a dryad!? whatever you are doing here tree friend you are doing a misstake helping these bloodthirsty wretches!" his eyes were to the woodland being, identifying her as a dryad, if that was indeed what she was or not.

His eyes went to the villagers, shit, if they were here they'd be caught in the crossfire!!

"Get away! To the boats! leave me if you must!" he called out, the roots still entrapping his body, damned wood, he was an elf surely this meant wood was good!?

...hey that rhymed...

NO TIME FOR THAT!

"Fucking.. bloody.. Damnedable..." he grumbled more as the roots finally, after some enhanced strength pushing, gave him way, slipping out unceremoniously, rolling upon the dirt and getting up with his staff, moveing away from the area.

"Come boy! We need to keep them from eatting these poor folks. Protect them but don't get caught out!" He winced at the pain in his shoulder.. A good lash.. Damn..

"Wheres that dryad... Surely its lurking yet again... Keep your head about you, and ON your shoulders young man I wont have you dieing young on my watch!"

1657848176726.png"Damn it. Puny human!" The many-eyed monster growled in the language of the dark continent as he watched the swordsman counter his assault. Then something or someone attacked the elf, trapping him in a bed of hungry roots. Shuten-Doji could smell another scent, one different from the monster he had seen in the city not long ago, but this scent had yet to produce a physical form that he could lay eyes on. Perhaps this was that person's doing. It mattered not however as the elf was freed and the weak creatures began to make their escape. His eyes darted around, each one moving to take in the surroundings until they all landed upon the fleeing group. There remained no more humans in the city and that meant he would have to go through them to reach the river and prevent the successful escape of the others. "Argh!!" The monster roared loudly.

Shuten-Doji was by no means a powerful monster and he knew that. His journey to the continent had been a struggle and full of obstacles, but he made it, and he hadn't made it this far to see his first meal slip through his fingers. The beast's feline nostrils flared as his lungs filled with air, and without a second thought...he charged.

Boldly and perhaps even foolishly, Shuten-Doji raced towards his enemies, his latest obstacle. He would topple them and devour them just as he had done all others. Once close enough, he leapt across the space that remained between himself and Nacht, tackling the man to the ground. All of his eyes swiftly focused downward on the feeble human as Shuten-Doji attempted to bite his throat out.

The humans who had came to assist, Oliver were determined not to leave the physician behind. Neither of them had any family to care for, but they would need the man to tend to any wounded citizens at the rendezvous point. It was wrong to think about leaving Nacht to fight the monsters by himself, but one life was worth the loss if it would saved a hundred. "We have to go, Mr. Oliver!" One man shouted as they tried to pull the elf down the hill to the river.

"Blast it man I'm not that old I can hear you!" The elf sighed at the pulling.. But... he was needed to heal the wounded... What a troublesome scene... Could he really leave this young man? No... he couldn't... he relaxed his arm, then quickly pulled free of the grasp. "I'll come down in a moment.. I need to bring this battle to an end soon. With the young man here, I am not to leave with such valiant temperament at risk of being tossed out from this world all together!"

The elven man slammed his staff on the ground, the pointed end dipping into the dirt slightly as he began his chant. At first, the sigils appeared in their golden light once more upon his words, then grew, with each utterance of the words.

"Oh lofty heavens, grant me this bestowal of rage and power." from the blue night sky a shot of lightning rang down from above, hitting the staff, light permeated the area with a electric roar of sparks and energy. Sigils aligned around the staff's tip, bouncing the blazing light back and forth within, the sigils let out a chiming dim with each reflection.

"And 'lo the path I give, honor our pact and smite my foe! Face the blades of the unending vastness!" with a furrowed brow, gritted teeth he grasped the charged catalyst and rose it high, his mind slowed for a moment as the spell began... Calculations... were key...

Maximum range, 30 feet, 10 foot radius, it will likely singe the boy from the explosion but would be mendable, easily. He wouldn't be bareing the brunt, but he had the beast within in radius. But he didn't know if this would kill, but... No doubt.. This would freak it the hell out... he wondered, for a second, how this looked t the men here. How would they describe this moment...?

It matter little, what mattered was, they had to chance this beast off..

The world came back to speed, he rose it to a pinnacle above his head, the sigils blinking out of sight.

"Fall!" he slammed the staff's root once more down, and the spell completed.

Not too far behind the many eyed monster, the spell came to life, with the sound of ripping sky the bolts surged toward the pin point then fulminated out like the beast's own tendrils, but with rage not mundane but searing with the rage of the sky it's self. The sparks ripped back into the sky as well, for a brief moment lighting up the village square at which they fought.

d8t1sk1-e6e47dbd-11d0-413e-9117-4e1e420587be.png Nachtum let out a tense breath as his blade successfully stopped the creatures attack. With the golden haired man surviving with just a grazing wound. Though roots still entangled his lower body. In a frantic voice the man called out to whoever had trapped him. He mentioned a "dryad", while Nachtum had not heard of a daemon with that name he knew it meant there must be another enemy nearby. Hiding somewhere. With a mental command his Drive Blade raced back to his hand. Catching it mid air he gripped the blade and its engine roared to life once more in his hand as the enhancers took effect. Nachtum kept his eyes firmly on Shuten Doji, but let them wander casting his gaze rapidly for the unseen opponent. But finding nothing. The daemon let out a loud roar of rage. Then charged for him in a mad dash.

With grit teeth he answered the monster charge with his own, all the while bringing his sword up to bear. The daemon collided with him and they struggled against each other. The beasts jaw and claws tried to reach him and cut him down. Nachtum was able to hold off the brunt of its wicked bite, and thanks to his Strength he didn't fall down for the daemon to pounce on top of him. Yet while he could parry most of its attacks some got through and cut into him. Though shallow each cut felt like a harsh burn, and sapped him of his endurance. His body was weak, he knew could not keep this up for long. So he wouldn't. Using his boosted Strength he pushed against the daemon with all his might. With the combined magic of both his sword and the other mans spells he was stronger than he had ever been. More than enough to eclipse the daemon Shuten Doji even if only briefly. With one last shove with the flat of his blade he flung the monster off him. Nachtum yet lived, but he was panting and the his clothes were torn. Despite this his face was determined showing he wouldn't give up. Then a tingle began to come up his arms and legs, and his hair began to stand on end. This was... His eyes cast to the side seeing the golden haired man raise himself up bringing his staff into the air. Chanting some sort of spell, all the while dark clouds began to gather overhead. "Just like an Archon..." Locked in a moment of awe at the display of advanced magic Nacht sees an opportunity. He takes the moment to attack Shuten Doji slashing at him with his blade in and effort to distract and occupy him. "You slipped up daemon!" He continues his barrage of attacks with sword in hand. Trusting himself to keep the daemon busy long enough for the caster spell to strike. Even should it hit him he was fine with that. He was no stranger to death.

Maikoa Groave

Maikoa was moving through the alleys of the town, trying to find good angles to interrupt the foes of her brethren, before she heard the mystic begin to chant up some kind of spell, upon which she sprinted towards the edge of the alleyway behind Shuten Doji, seeing the source of the blast forming and leaning down, placing her hands upon the grass, and channeling her Mana upon it. "Defend us mother nature with the grass we stand upon!" She chanted out, casting [Life's Flow] Once more, forming a large wall of suddenly grown massive grass, that she hoped would cushion some of the blast with it's thickness.

Once the wall was thrown up, she dashed back into the alleyways, not wanting to stay in sight for too long, her long hair flowing behind her as she dashed back behind the buildings of the civilization. She was fine being away from the sight of those who she was helping as well as those who she was hindering. She did not like to be looked at despite how fair her skin and looks were.

The villagers were in awe of Oliver's bravery, but then the elf gave them something to truly be impressed by, and that was his magic. The only clouds in the sky had been the ones formed b y the fire that burned their homes to the ground, but Oliver summoned his own clouds, harnessing the power of nature to do his bidding. They watched from a safe distance, keeping their eyes on the display. Their little village had never and probably would never see another feat like this and they wanted to make sure that they saw it all, from start to bloody finish.

And bloody it would have been. Shuten-Doji scrapped with Nacht, his body's natural armor doing its best to fend off the hero's weapon, but he was still a young monster with a great deal of growing to do. That was when one of his eyes caught sight of what the elf mage was up to. He saw lightning forming and dancing at the man's command, but surely he would not attack his own partner. That was not the way of the creatures of this land, was it?

Nacht pressed his attack, keeping Shuten-Doji from disengaging and avoiding the incoming threat that he could see so clearly coming their way. But that lightning also illuminated his hero who unfortunately was now in the line of fire. Watching her, the lightning, and Nacht at the same time, SHuten-Doji knew that the wall of grass would do little to protect them and the frail form of his mysterious ally would not survive the blast. Quickly one of his tendrils lopped around her waist and he yanked the stranger underneath himself.

The two spells collided and the lightning caused a large explosion as it tore through the grass. Although it's strength was reduced now, it hit Shuten-Doji on the back, electrocuting the monster as he was simultaneously washed over by the fire. The flames would rush past him towards Nacht, also burning the young man, but not beyond healing or medicinal recovery.

The night wind kick up by the rising temperature in the area cleared away the smoke, revealing a large path of burnt grass and a somewhat toasted Shuten-Doji. Underneath him, Maikoa would have felt to flames trying to stab at her, by ultimately she was unharmed and would only have a few scrapes and bruises from how roughly she was handled.

Behind Oliver, the two men form the village were left speechless. For a moment the field was bright as day and then in an instant it went right back to night. They watched for a moment, completely silent. "It isn't moving." Then they heard a high-pitched whistle. "The boats are full and setting sail, we should get going!" They called to Oliver. They could see Nacht lying in the ground, thrown back by the explosion and burst of fire. Whether Oliver and Nacht came or not, they could wait no longer, their families were ready to depart. The two men turned away and started to race down the hill to where the boats were beginning to float down the river.

"Ah... So its done then..." the elven man sighs, a hand to his head for a moment. That was trouble to be certain, he expected the dryad to come out to try something but not this much... But... The beast was quite strong... And exhibited some strange behavior he didn't expect from a monster... Comraderie.

Or perhaps simply paying back effort? He eyed the men leaving, then the duo over the way... His hand tightened on his staff... He could end them right now... He had the spell for it... One for each, sear them both, remove them... But...

Hrmm... He had other matters...

"Young man, are you alive? You better be because if you make me bring you back it'll be a long drawn out talk about proper usage of your life and possibly some form of pay back for the miracle of your heart's continued beating." He put up the grouchy old man act, but smiled.

"You did good, hold on this will sting." The elven man stamped his staff upon the ground once more and chuckled abit, the tingling sensation from the lightning still ran through him.

"Flesh, knit!" A simple command and a flick of the wrist send the sigil flying towards Naucht, the small healing burst of light enveloped his form, all but removing the signs of the earlier blast... Save the smell of smoulder and burnt clothes.

"Well, you should buy a lottery ticket my boy you've the devil's own luck... Wait do they have the devil in this world? Ah whatever, come along, we gotta move..." the elven man paused a moment before looking over to the duo over yonder... He paused and sighed.

"Dryad, I beseech you, go in peace and do not return, bid your ally not as well. This battle was brought upon by the aggressor who protected you, and as I protected these folk as you did him... If it is a him, I don't know.

Best leave and not return.

Turn against us, and the blood shall be shead once more, it is best we leave with peace in heart." He mumbled for a moment, after, turning to help the man up, he spoke more to Nacht than Maikoa.

"If they even have a heart... Come on boy, lets get moving." He extended his hand to the prone young man, together they should leave... If theres a boat even left.

Maikoa Groave

Maikoa felt the tendril coil around her waist and pull her towards the one she had tried to save, seeing the lightning rip through the plants she had placed in defense, as she was placed beneath the large beast. She felt the flames try to reach her, knowing that this was the time for the monsters to leave. There was no reason to remain in this place. She had no desire to eat, and the younger monster would only get himself killed. So she began to lift up, barely moving Shuten as she began to try and carry him away.

She heard the elfs words, turning to him with her golden eyes. "I do not desire harm. But I cannot let a young and foolish monster throw their lives away. They need time to learn and understand that the world is not merely something to be eaten." She said softly in the common tongue, speaking in a dialect that was not a monster tongue for the first time since she arrived, walking away with the monster on her should, trying to keep him steady as she left.

She cast
[Life's Flow] one last time, the grass growing up and covering their retreat as she hefted Shuten away.

d8t1sk1-e6e47dbd-11d0-413e-9117-4e1e420587be.png Nacht fought aggressively against Shuten Doji. Foregoing his usual wariness in favor of a ever punishing assault. He had never been this strong before, so he would leverage every second he had left. Despite the sheer power behind his attacks the daemons natural defenses, and large frame kept any from being fatal. It was frustrating that he couldn't kill it decisively, but that wasn't the goal in the first place. While he was much stronger than before, even going beyond the power the daemon held. His constitution was still fragile. Every retaliatory strike from the daemon seemed to rattle his bones, and each attack that managed to get through his guard ached and bled away at his stamina. Yet he continued anyway forcing himself through the fatigue and the treacherous desires to give up for even and ounce of rest. Then he felt the mana in the air reach a zenith. The moment was now.

He grit his teeth and bore down on Shuten Doji keeping the daemon pinned. His mind was so clearly focused on this one task that he failed to notice the wall of grass rise around them nor the attention of the daemon going elsewhere even if only briefly. A bright light filled the sky as the bolt of electricity fell upon them. The grass shielding burned away quickly the lightning merely passing through with seemingly only a modicum of energy lost. In that instant many things occurred and Nacht felt just as many sensations. First came the heat of the now burning greenery around him with some of the flames falling down onto his body beginning to sear what flesh it could reach along with his clothing. Then the bolt struck the ground a ways away from them all. It seemed the mage had displaced the bolt so as not to hit them. Nachtum couldn't help but wonder if it was his fault for getting in so close that the mage hadn't landed the killing blow. Though the thought vanished quickly as it was replaced by the pain coursing through his body as the ground current from the lightning striking the earth reached him. It was excruciating for all of an instant though it was better than the alternative of nearly instant death. Then in a damning act his Drive Blade deactivated the time having exceeded its limiter. His strength was slightly weaker than before, but that wasn't what truly mattered. The foremost issue was that the Drive Blade's magical spells were the only thing keeping him in the fight and on his feet. Without its magic significantly boosting his body he was now back to his previous condition. Almost instantly his body went into shock. In the moment before his heart stopped beating he saw a flash a movement. The billowing of long beautiful hair filled his vision. Along with the smell of a forest in spring. Then nothing.

When Nachtum came to he found himself laying in a liquid he could only identify as water. "Damn, my head..." He raised himself from his position laying on the ground, a hand now resting on his forehead. He cautiously took in his surroundings. A vast expanse of dark with a few pin pricks in the sky as the only illumination. They seemed like stars but were incredibly few in number. Not even light pollution would lead to only this many being visible at night. For some reason he couldn't remember how he got here. But he knew he had been in danger, and that he should be hurting a lot more than he is. With narrowed eyes and a steely gaze he looked for any kind of landmark, or object that stood out from the emptiness. It was then that he spotted a figure in the distance, and it seemed to be a person. He walked over to them not allowing his sight to waver from them. As he got closer he called out. "Hey, who you are and where the hell are we?" Nachtum approached the figure, but their back was turned to him. Resolving himself to having to get closer he continued to shorten the distance between them. Right as he reached what he could tell was a woman he made to call out to her again. "Hel-" Then stopped. The woman had turned to look at him over her shoulder. Nachtums eye's widened as he beheld her bare form. Her skin was a greyish blue and patterned. Her hair was a shining quicksilver along with bright blue and gold eyes that shined like the most brilliant of jewels. She was beautiful yet also terrifying to behold, as everything about her seemed inhuman. A feeling he could only describe as instinctual welled up from within him. A complicated one of familiarity, distaste, fear and fondness all combined. Her eyes held his own. Then for a brief moment her form changed to that of the brown haired woman from his dream, and then into Nachtums exact likeness. Before she suddenly reverted back just as quickly. She didn't speak, but her expression was one of sadness and shame. Nachtum felt his head feel like it was splitting open. Everything within him seemed to rebel against him at the mere sight of the bizarre woman before him. He turned away looking to the dark expanse, the pain subsided greatly but lingered. "Who, or what are you?!" Right now, all he wanted were answers. He craved the truth behind this mysterious woman. More than even a man dying of thirst desired water. There was silence. It battered at his will. Nachtum has always been a calm person few things swayed him out of his general coolness. But, this thing... The sound of light steps upon water reached his ears. Despite himself he tensed as the sound drew closer. Yet, he still did not turn around. He simply couldn't bring himself to look at it. The foot steps stopped, and he just knew it was right behind him. A hand was placed upon his back, and it was chilling. A cold that reached his very core. He could feel it growing closer and closer till the space between their bodies was barely and inch. It drew itself next to him and he felt its cold breath upon the side of his head. The things lips right next to his ear. It whispered to him...

With a gasp Nachtum shot up shooting his head from side to side. He was on the ground looking up at the sky, seeing smoke rise into the air. Sitting up he realized the long haired mage was standing over him a light suffusing his body and healing the damage he had sustained. It seemed he had passed out even if only for a moment. Remembering the presence of the daemons he shot to his feet only to immediately fall to a knee. His body was healed, but with the sword magic gone the fatigue had caught up to him. He could barely stand let alone fight. He glared out seeing the daemon Shuten Doji along with a female figure wreathed in leaves and other forms of nature. For some reason he felt a sudden intense uncomfortableness looking at her, but it vanished quickly as if it had reminded him of something. Though he didn't know what. With a grimace he turned to the golden haired man. "Yeah, I guess." He wasn't really sure how to respond to that. Let alone to someone he had been fighting together with, but knew nothing about. Nachtum.looked to him incredulously as he seemed to try and talk the daemons out of trying to kill them. 'is this guy serious?' Even if they could speak daemons were natural murderers and the scourge of man. They wouldn't just... His face remained blank but it took genuine effort not to stare with his mouth wide open. The weird female daemon just, accepted his offer? Just like that? From his kneeling position he gave a small chuckle. "A daemon choosing not to fight till it, or its prey is dead? And cares for its fellow daemon to boot?" He chuckled again. This time it was more prolonged, but curt in its ending. "Don't fuck with me." He didn't yell but his voice had become cold like ice and his gaze empty of any emotion save a grim determination. He made to rise again his sword in his hand but could only stumble forward slowly. Then they were gone, and he couldn't ever catch up like this, especially not in his condition. He stared at their retreating form before they vanished into the tall grass. "Dammit..." The man extended a helping hand to Nachtum. He lingered for a moment before accepting. Embarrassingly leaning on the man to help support him as they walked together. "Hey uh." He seemed to struggle with his words briefly like he was considering them carefully. "I appreciate it, the help I mean. I couldn't let those daemons kill anyone else. And I would've had a bit of trouble on my own, so thanks. I'm Nachtum, but you can just call me Nacht I'm not one for formalitites." While he walked with the man Nachtum inclined his head to look at the bodies of those who couldn't escape. Watching as their luminous souls, which resembled the light of stars. Rose into the sky. "Goodbye, whoever you are."

Aftermath

Destruction was visited upon Riverend, the likes of which no former resident would ever forget. The cries of their neighbors and loved ones would be forever carved into their minds and wake them from their scare and fleeting dreams. Nacht and Oliver would manage to catch up to the fleeing townsfolk, all of which were glad to see them still alive. Oliver's healing would restore Nacht to near perfect condition. The people would remark on the fantastic magic that Oliver utilized during the fight, marveling at his prowess and strength. They would also applaud Nacht for his bravery and skill with a blade, and thank them both for coming to their rescue when they could have fled with some of the earlier boats.

The monsters would escape the town and flee into the mountains where average mortals would struggle to follow. Shuten-Doji would recover from his wounds and Maikoa was luckily unharmed. The other monster who had briefly been present during the attack was gone and neither part could tell where it had disappeared to.

(Thanks for joining this very brief rp everyone! It was my first attempt at a reveal combat oriented scene and although it was short I feel like I learned from it. I hope you all enjoyed it!)

Isekai Hell RP Grade
It's about time. A monster behaving the way a monster should and sowing the seeds of chaos. Probably one of the first rp's where a monster character is played like one. It went more or less how it should also. As it is not a worlds, character death would be excessive. Was a good balance between meeting the character needs and narrative needs. My only concern was when the monsters were mass dispatching guards without discernable setback. Despite their monstrous builds, they likely would have met with some resistance before the other characters appeared. The monsters aren't quite high level yet. I'd imagine something more guerilla in tactics or smaller targets. This village seemed suitably small enough for a few monsters if they worked together though. Just never forget that the npcs will not twiddle thumbs while their towns are burning and they will attempt to behave intelligently in dealing with threats.

Aftermath
Riverend village ruins would be reclaimed and rebuilt. There was enough of it left that it would allow the survivors to recover. Many would be too poor and lacking in options to move on. Petitions to the adventurer's guild would be made and a local baron would also look into the matter. Lack of funds and notoriety would lead to a delay in bounties being made, but eventually the local authorities would post up monster clearing quests for the area. However, low finances meant the quest would be low paying and only fit for low ranking adventurers to accept.

Although not heroes, Nachtum and Oliver would be held in high regard by the remaining residents of Riverend.
