Survive what happens, figure out what really happened and why, then seek a satisfying if bloody resolution.

Ryken, lee-ward of the castle near the river.

Late evening, overcast sky heavy with purple clouds eager to rain down on those below.

The day had passed quietly into night. The Rose and Thorn was in the lee of the Ryke Castle Mountain, leaving it entirely in shadow during the afternoon. At the Rose and Thorn, dusk came at afternoon and darkness fell before sunset. This made it a lively place to start the evening and just as often to end the night.

The Rose and Thorn was an upscale alternative to the typical dive bars adventurers and world travels often find themselves. It’s upscale without being too fancy. It’s been intentionally curated by it‘s owner Carmine to bridge the gap between the expectations of nobles, merchants, and successful adventures. It had become a destination for meeting up and making deals. As its popularity has grown over the decades, so has the difficulty of getting a seat in the restaurant. These days unless someone has a reservation or connections, it’s hard to get in.
