Graded [Frontier] Frozen Kingdom

Scene 1: A cold opening
The Kingdom was a frozen wasteland this time of year. Winter had come and with it an ever deepening tide of snow. It was said the wind of the north was alive and hungry in winter, roused from it's summertime slumber by the quiet cold that stole the warmth of exposed skin. Eager to join in, Azjorath the Hungry Wind, rose at the first whisper of sound, whipping into a frenzy as more noise was made. At night Azjorath's children the Wraiths of Azjorath hunted from the shadows, drawn to the sleeping silence of thier victims. It is for this reason many hang an Azjorath Chime above thier beds, making just enough noise to attract a breeze but keeping her Wraiths away.

The Kingdom was filled with such superstitions, half truths, and nightmares. Monsters were plentiful lurking in the wild places, glacierial cravaces, and the many massacres preserved beneath the snow. Ever at war with the environment, it was only through unrelenting will and the ancient Mecha artifacts that humanity had kept thier hold. Here the good races were more of a weed, being ripped out but always sprouting back. This was an unsettled place.

Finn had heard all of this and more from his guide, Aurora an Artic Wolf beastkin. Aurora lead the sled team taking a caravan along the northeastern shoreline. It was thirteen dog sleds pulling cargo, crew, and tourists. Finn was joined by a few others. They were a mix of adventure hungry fools and people running away from something.

Everyone had to work, even the tourists, of which the most annoying was Count Valleros' second eldest son, Viktor Von Valleros. Viktor and his entourage of dragoons and minions were out hunting polar bear and other more exotic creatures. They made up a full four sleds with each sled filled with gear plus three people. Viktor was bat shit crazy, blood thirsty and lacked all mortality. The only thing he held to was the strict social moors and etiquette that defined the Kingdom's nobility.

A series of whistles from the rear sled brought each sledmaster to roar, "Ombre!" despite the roar of the winter wind, the dogs picked up pace.

On the horizon behind them a dark line formed and grew with each passing moment. As the darkness gathered and consolidated, it came with a chorus of squawking.

Azjorath picked up as the noise around and behind them increased. She was in a fury, biting and clawing at exposed flesh and getting into every crack and crevice. The wind picked up bits of frozen ice and powdery snow, obscuring sight and dampening sound.

Even as Azjorath picked up intensity, the cloud of darkness grew until it darkened the sky. A screeching cawing whirlwind of buffeting wings, clawing talons and pecking beaks began to descended upon the party. The teeming mass of sinister, rotting, disease-ridden birds veered in thier journey towards the party eager to peck at eyeballs and the flesh of the dogs. Soon they would be upon the party. With each second they covered hundreds of feet. The stench was carried upon the back of Azjorath. As they nested, the undead ravens appeared as rotting and diseased black birds whose feathers were torn, matted and dirty. Thier eyes were an inky, dripping black.

Thier sqweaky, cawking screaks washed over everyone like a bucket of madness. Azjorath the Hungry Wind picked at the undead crows as it did the dogs and people in the ground. A few of the crows fell as the wind attacked them, and the dogs grew terrified. Whistles and shouts grew louder, only serving to further incite Azjorath.

When they said it was cold here, he knee should dress warmly... But... He didn't think it'd be THIS COLD!!!

Sure he had the fur cloak but this place was practically inhostpitable!!

It was all he could do was bundle up and damn well prep till he could gods damn be back near a fire! Or near those dogs! They were wonderously warm creatures if you let them get close. One had a particular desire to lean on you and topple over if you let him.

But now... now he had bigger problems. Roughly bird sized and gaining on them was a massive cloud of crows. He couldn't help but think of the fact that this would be a good exercise to warm up with. Standing with abit of struggle he withdrew his sword.

"Mind your eyes and don't stare too long!" He yelled out and held the sword straight up infront of him. Casting out a blast of holy light that lingered like a shining star against the black wave.

"Keep on and i'll take care of this monster, who else can fight here?!" Finn called out, not quite off the sled yet, figuring out if he had any allies this day.

He would also attempt to utilize appraisal on these incoming minions, best too be certain what their being tailed by.

Shalys Dar’Miam "Hunter"

Location: Back of a Dog Sled

Interactions: No one

Even though she had packed her cloak, it doesn't really describe how cold it was here. Shalys thought she had gotten used to cold and snow before back at home, heck she likes winter more than the spring or summer. But this place was different. Blistering blizzards with no forest cover to break the wind, on a small and compact vehicle that can't fit a stove or oven to stay warm, not even a candle. The best Shalys could do was huddle up with the cargo to shield herself from the full brunt of the cold, but even then it would reach her and chill her to the bone. In the end all Shalys could do sit where she was and pat her arms and legs to stay warm, knowing that going to sleep or staying still will be a death sentence.

Of course the cold wasn't the only thing to worry about. As Shalys moved around to get more comfortable a swarm of monsters came. Surely no normal beast would want to be out in this weather, not even ones acclimated to the cold. So it wasn't too much of a surprise when Shalys noticed that the birds that attacked them seem sick, undead even. Only a few had reached her sled and were dispatched easily by some of the other passengers, though from their shaky they were more used to hunting beasts than monsters. Soon another passenger on a different sled drew his sword and released a blinding light. Shalys made sure not to look, and it was handy since it helped her get a clear sight on these monsters. Not that it was hard to see them per say, given their size, but this way Shalys can make a clear shot.

Flinging her cloak open, Shalys planted her foot against a box to brace herself. She took out her bowgun, a massive weapon only slightly shorter than her. Despite how shaky the sled was between the mad crows and the dogs running for their lives, the elf had no issue shooting down the undead birds, often taking out two or three crows per bolt. With how big these swarms were, aiming wasn't the issue, it was taking out as many crows as she can at once. Fortunately unlike a regular crossbow, Shalys's bowgun was much more advanced. With every shot, steam pumped from the canisters of her bowgun to cycle the next bolt and rack the string back, immediately allowing her to shoot another shot one after the other. Shalys kept her cool and focused on shooting down the crows from afar, and any that got too close to her was quickly shot down before she went right back to peppering the main swarm with bolts.

Tyrmar
The biting colds were a stark contrast to the warm slightly damp forest of the See that he’d trekked through only a short time ago, reflecting on his journeys there he couldn’t help be reminded of the aid he was given, both in his resurrection but also in them giving he him provisions and clothes for his travels.

Mostly because it was SO DAMN COLD!

It turned out having a healing factor and a constitution used to not eating or drinking for weeks didn’t help with regulating heat any better than the average person. As the caravan continued forward Tyrmar considered their destination and their movement so far, the land here was rough to travel through to say the least with cutting winds and low temperatures keeping many beasts to stay in their dens or hiding to be less feasted upon.

He’d tried his best to provide his own portions to the less able and any children that were going without, but for most of the others he traded food for alcohol, something that’s always kept in abundance in long journeys. Finn’s aura of light erupted from further back where the end of the caravan lied and turning his head Tyrmar witnessed the flick of Black Death currently descending upon them.

Without a thought of hesitation Tyrmar rocketed out of the group of civilians to take position parallel to the caravan before heading straight toward the incoming hoard, all the while issuing instructions towards the riders and travelers. (Burst Step + Burst Step, Second)

In preparation for battle the enchantment engraved upon his person reacted to his will before erupting leaving Tyrmar’s body near glowing beneath his clothes as he rushed off taking the appearance of a racing comet.

“We’ve got undead inbound! Everyone gather what you can carry and move with the caravan forward, listen to the Sidemasters!!” Yelling at the top of his lungs his orders over and over again Tyrmar hoped to open up room between the upcoming battlefield and any innocents, he’d be able to hold nothing back if he didn’t have to worry about friendly fire. (Compassionate Charisma)

Scene 1: A Cold Opening — Combat Round 1
Without a thought of hesitation Tyrmar rocketed out of the group of civilians to take position parallel to the caravan before heading straight toward the incoming hoard, all the while issuing instructions towards the riders and travelers. (Burst Step + Burst Step, Second)

In preparation for battle the enchantment engraved upon his person reacted to his will before erupting leaving Tyrmar’s body near glowing beneath his clothes as he rushed off taking the appearance of a racing comet.

“We’ve got undead inbound! Everyone gather what you can carry and move with the caravan forward, listen to the Sledmasters!!” Yelling at the top of his lungs his orders over and over again Tyrmar hoped to open up room between the upcoming battlefield and any innocents, he’d be able to hold nothing back if he didn’t have to worry about friendly fire. (Compassionate Charisma)

Many of those on the sleds remained where they were. The sledmasters shouted, urging their dogs ever faster. “Ombré!” They roared louder, but the wind roared even louder, picking up larger chunks of ice and hurling them into the bodies and sleds. One of the sleds zig-zagged curving and barreling into a snowbank. Three bodies tumbled out and rolled ten feet along cracked, icy snow. The dogs went insane, snapping and biting each other as they tangled in the lines. The sled ejected its contents everywhere.

Still the other sleds pushed on, not looking back. Tyrmar was free of his sled; the reduced weight on that one allowed it to push forward even faster.

"Mind your eyes and don't stare too long!" He yelled out and held the sword straight up infront of him. Casting out a blast of holy light that lingered like a shining star against the black wave.

"Keep on and i'll take care of this monster, who else can fight here?!" Finn called out.

He would also attempt to utilize appraisal on these incoming minions, best too be certain what their being tailed by.

For five hundred feet the golden light spread and lingered about everyone. Perhaps if Finn had baited a trap he would have caught more of the ravens in his radiance, but he did not. As a result only a quarter of the swarm of undead crows were caught. Several hundred of them burst like a squeezed tomato. Their bodies came apart as if they’d been made of wet clay and black paint. The momentum of their movements carried the splatter of white, gray, and black. And the swarm had been moving at over 100 miles per hour. Azjorath was already whipped into an insane fury, the Hungry Wind picked up and hurled everything that wasn’t at least five pounds in weight and accelerated it into painful, potentially deadly projectiles. The splattered undead crows bodies came apart into thick slurry, which spread apart until a horizontal wall of what was once hundreds of ravens but was now something like thousands of droplets of accelerating ever faster after the sleds.

The other undead crows didn’t break the barrier around Finn. They instead spread out in all directions, becoming more diffuse. However, even for them flight wasn’t precise now that Azjorath the Hungry Wind was also gusting and swirling around at speeds of a hundred miles per hour. All sound was carried, reflected and intensified until what had been a made cacophony of a murder of crows was now a terrible static of maddening ultra loud white noise.

Within Finn’s five hundred foot dome of golden light, the wind was calmer around 50 miles per hour but still it was damaging but only picking up a pound or two of snow, ice, and other debris.

Shalys took out a crow or two with each shot. Each time, the undead crow burst into clumps of clay, oozing into and eventually coming apart until they were picked up by the fury of Azjorath, carried and joining the wall of “Black Rain.”

Count Valleros' second eldest son, Viktor Von Valleros was laughing his ass off into the howling, shrieking white noise. It was impossible to hear what he was saying. However, his fingers moved as he balanced casually upon the edge of his sled. Two of his minions, a sled master and someone else in white robes, hunkered down. The white robed minion didn’t appear to do anything but suddenly Viktor’s sled blended into the whiteness. Moments later the other three sleds seemed to blend into the landscape.

There was one more figure who stood out. As it was impossible to hear anything it was hard to hear if he was answering Finn’s call to arms or not. This figure was an oddball. He looked like a black bundle, suspicious perhaps, because he seemed more like the blackness of the ravens than the golden light that Finn and Tyrmar represented. The golden light seemed to make him uncomfortable. Of course to Finn and those with Appraisal they knew his name as Vanta the Lost, a Grade E Magus of Loss and Shadow. Vanta was watching all the craziness unfold from beneath the cowl of his hood. His hands had fingers that were like long spider legs. In his left hand, a black line carved through the fabric of creation. Black sigils oozed nothingness that ate the light and sound. It took longer than a typical mage’s spell but the maddening white noise louder than a yell was distracting.

Past the last sled near where Finn and Tyrmar were, miniature balls of ashen grey came out of the sigils and expanded to look solid like hail. They fell in waves of biting nothingness, each clinging to the wall of advancing black rain. They didn’t seem to do any damage, rather they clung and stuck. They formed a mass and clung to each other, entrapping more of the black rain like a snowball being pushed down a hill. They clung to other things as well like the aerial snow. The spell didn’t clean up the entire wall, and the hungry wind dispersed the remaining black rain but about 30% of it was gone.

OOC
  1. The “Black Rain” will arrive and likely engulf the entire sled train next round. It will take two rounds to get the entire sled train due to everyone being spread out in a line.
  2. The Azjorath the Hungry Wind’s loud white noise makes anything that depends on sound impossible without Effectiveness 10 or higher (E.g. focus).
  3. The Azjorath the Hungry Wind is now strong enough to slow movement and generally be a difficult thing for any Grade D or lower character. Thus Grade D or lower take -1 to Effectiveness. Grade F and lower take 1HP of damage.
The swarm appraises as a B-grade single entity in a [Transformation B: Undead Crow Form]. Titles: [Murder][Abuser][Abyssal Knight][Baron of the Lingering Darkness][Hunter Seeker][Mass Devourer][Gentleman of Supreme Tastes][Moon Spawn]

"Tsk, your form changes wont fool me you misserable sludge. An Abyssal knight? I take it the knight part is naught but missnamed! Hahahaha!" The golden light that ensheathed his sword did not dissipate, for he had a counter play versus that inky black... Ish...

It was more simply meet force with it and hoping it worked.

But this swarm... Yes... It was dissipating his damage against this creature... He either had to hit all of these beasts at once or kill it with death by a million cuts... He knew he could weather alot. But these people couldn't...

Hopefully his holy energy was doing some work... but... Well... He just had to keep trying. And save his big shot when he could get a proper strike in...

But for now...

"I don't think so!" He yelled out, swunging his heavenly blade skyward towards the incoming sludge. Sending a surge of holy light cutting up to the sky to clear the incoming rain.

Hopefully.

He rose his shield over his head after either way... Just... To be certain.

Shalys Dar’Miam "Hunter"

Location: Back of a Dog Sled

Interactions: No one

Shalys was practically shooting fish in a barrel at this point. The crow swarm was so dense that she didn't even need to aim, and focused entirely on pumping out as many bolts as she can, reloading when she needs to. She was fortunate that her sled was well ahead of the pack, perhaps because she's doing a good job keeping any hostiles off of them. But what she was more concerned about was how each crow didn't really die, but turned into some sort of inky liquid. It didn't look like blood, but she also didn't want to learn what exactly it was either. She just wanted to keep those things away from her. The wind was picking up too, preventing Shalys from hearing anything and affecting her aim.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Shalys needed to make every shot count now that the swarm was getting closer, so she adjusted the cargo and laid down. Even while on a chaotic and fast moving dog sled, Shalys could keep her aim steady as she tried to target what could be controlling this swarm. Whether it's some sort of king crow or magic stone, Shalys will look for it before she takes a shot using a special barbed bolt designed to cause a maximum amount of damage. It ought to rip through multiple crows at once, and even it tumbling down to the ground will kill a few more with how weighty and spikey it was. It was just something Shalys had to do now with how dangerous everything was getting.

Snipe - Elven Archery D, Far-Shot D, Sharpshooer F, Barbed Bolt F - Taking careful aim, Shalys fires a special spiked projectile somewhere that'll really hurt! - Grade D - 0/2 Post Cooldown

Kristina "Lupa"
Mentions: gmimperfecti gmimperfecti Orikanyo Orikanyo
The chill winds of the north swept through the snow covered road. The wayward traveler was bundled in winter clothes, but even with her breath freezing insample-e27f142fbce13ec1a8634c1b386645d5.jpg the air she seemed unbothered by the cold. Her wolf ear twitched upon her head as they felt the cold air, a light blush tinged her face as her body responded to her surroundings. Pulling her hood up she turned her head from side to side her nose taking in the scents around her. She was particularly tracking the scent of someone familiar. Kristina the former bodyguard of an arms dealer on earth, and now the lone traveling merchant "Lupa" had made her way to the frigid north of The Kingdom by ship. Taking the rivers than ran from Ryke to the Continental Lake, and then to the gulf shared by the Republic of Kuridan and the Kingdom. Her reason for travelling was mostly a whim likened to throwing a dart at a map, but with her new property needing renovations and more taking some time to familiarize herself with this world wasn't a waste of time. Even if it was admittedly a little aimless as far as a decision went. Kristina had known what its like to be a foreigner in a strange land but not in a whole other world. To put it simply she wasn't used to having so much autonomy in her activities.

Her nostrils flared as she once again picked up the familiar scent. It wasn't why she came but it was an alluring feeling that came with it. Kristina had reacted this way to a scent only once before so she had a good feeling who she was being led to. But then the question of why she was following it at all came up in her mind, and all the answers she could formulate either didn't sit right with her or felt like excuses. Her feelings on the matter were complicated to say the least, yet she stayed her path.

Before long the scent grew stronger as she followed it, unconsciously her tail swished from side to side in anticipation of the meeting. However the smell seemed to be getting close and closer, and became mingled with another scent one that was overpowering and foul. Then her ears twitched as the faint stirrings of a mad cacophony reached her ears but it was yet too quiet to be understood what she was hearing. A bad feeling began to grow within Kristina. Her hand reached into her clothes gripping the knife she concealed on her person. Only for the scent to reach and apex, and a bright golden light blasted into the sky even she could see. With the sound of rushing snow and shouts a dog sled crested the small hill she was climbing. She jumped back alarmed prepared to fight only to see some sort of birds or flying creatures surrounding it. The sled raced past her. Soon she found other dog sleds moving past her each trying to survive the swarm that was attacking them. Kristina's head whipped around as she tried to get a handle of the situation only for a mop of hair like gold entered her vision. Bathed in light with sword and shield Kristina beheld the source of what led her here.

"Finn!" Kristina called out to the veritable beacon of light, yet it would likely be drowned in the cacophony that surrounded them. She had no idea why he was here or what exactly was goin on but he and his allies were being attacked. She did not fancy herself a humanitarian but she stuck by those she was close to and Finneagan just so happened to be one of those few. Narrowing her eyes she released her grip on her hidden blade and instead drew a longsword which hung on her side. With a burst of speed Kristina began to run, it wasn't long before she was practically effortlessly running at Olympic levels. Her own bodies burgeoning capabilities neve ceased to surprise her with something new and while she knew she was fast, even faster than she once was she didn't realize it was to this level. Catching up to the sled Finn was on she did what she could with her longsword to hack away at the undead swarm, their stench filling her nostrils. Quickly stepping onto the sled beside Finn, no doubt a surprise to see. "Fancy meeting you here boy scout!" Shouting over the noise she hacked away with her sword at the monsters, but her abilities were suited to dealing with individuals not such a large foe as this. "Mind tellin me what the hells going on!? My pleasant trip through the north was suddenly upended when you lot came barreling through with these things trying to kill you!" While there was a tenseness about her that came with being put into battle Kristina, or rather Lupa at the moment was quite unworried. The pleasant scent of Finn suffused her and she couldn't help but be comforted in its presence; her tail rapidly wagging from side to side. Though she had much more control over herself than the first time she had encountered it.

The fury of Azjorath the Hungry Wind continued to grow, although around Finn within the 50’ nimbus of golden light that fury was dampened to a degree. Still most of the sleds were not so lucky. Dog sleds were not designed to operate in tight formations, the dogs were too unpredictable and aggressive for that to work. So only three dog sleds benefits from Finn’s golden light. Clustered as if by gravity were the active participants: Finn, Shalys, Tyrmar, Vanta, and now the loping Lupa. Both Lupa and Tyrmar were showing off running on foot with superhuman speed and stamina.

The other dog sleds were further ahead, pulling apart from where the active, moving battle was happening. Well not all the sleds. Another upended as it hit what appeared to be a hidden crevice in the ice pact everyone was moving along. The dog sled hit the crevice at over 20 miles per hour with the fury of Azjorath picking up to land blizzard of hurling snow ((Perception/Senses/etc. E+ to see more than 20 feet)). So not everyone even realized what was happening when the first few dogs tumbled into the hole, gravity sucking the rest of the sled. A merchant and his pack made it off the sled, but with everyone else traveling 20 to 100 miles per hour, he would be left behind within a second left to the swarm of insane, undead crows.

Meanwhile, the sled that had careened into the snow bank but three seconds ago ((last round)) and hurled all it’s cargo and passengers was also now at risk of being passed up by the rearguard comprised of Finn, Shalys, Tyrmar, Vanta, and Lupa. But then again, an omelet wasn’t made without cracking a few eggs and could the group really afford to save four people or scavenge the associated assets in time? Was it really worth it?!

There aren’t supposed to be crevices this close to the nearby mountain city of Nord. This is indeed quite suspicious!!

Bonus: If your skill is higher than E, then you can feel free to influence the narrative of what is causing or how or where the crevices are laid out!

Meanwhile, there was still the Black Rain caused by the deaths of the undead crows turned into oily ink combined with the gale force winds caused by Azjorath! Who knew what would happen if that combination caught up to the party.

Hint it would be bad, likely some form of plague or contagion or poison or negative energy infection?!
If your skill is C+ you can feel free to influence the narrative of HOW bad!

Luckily there was the North Star, first star of light in the night sky and often the last before dawn came...

Aurora the Artic Wolf beast kin who was both sledmaster but also the operator of Finn’s sled and largely the reason why Finn could let loose without being thrown off the sled, gave a low growl. It seemed Aurora didn’t like another shewolf appearing out of nowhere and getting friendly with her “charge”. While there was the racist misconception of the “alpha male” amongst wolves, it was really the females amongst both wolves and dogs who were the most aggressive.

There wasn’t much room on the remaining sleds for Lupa, they were packed tight with three people and gear both supplies and assets. Still, keeping up with them was doable ((Fast E)). She could chuck someone off of course or see about rescuing either the upturned sled or the one going down the crevice. In the meanwhile, her blade flickered cutting apart debris picked up by the angry, gale force wind but none of the undead crows approached Finn’s 50’ golden radiance.

Talking was nearly impossible with the loud, furious roar of the wind, which had a tendency to pick up and carry away sounds, mixing them and hurling them back to join the cacophony of screaming, yowling white noise. So it was impossible to hear what Aurora said but it didn’t look nice.

"I don't think so!" He yelled out, swunging his heavenly blade skyward towards the incoming sludge. Sending a surge of holy light cutting up to the sky to clear the incoming rain.

Hopefully.

Light. Pure, golden light shot out like a solar light house, cutting through the wind, debris, and Black Rain hurtling towards the rearguard. Everything was vaporized. Even the wind died in the wake of the Heavenly Blade’s skyward arc.

The unkilled undead crows still numbering more than 500 spread out like a giant black hand reaching out and around the group. The crows moved much faster than the sleds and yet they didn’t encircle them. They spread out in a concave stream of flapping, screeching black insanity but they never got closer than twenty feet and left the way forward open.

Through it all, Shalys had remained steady, focused. She kept her aim steady and her gaze ever searching. The job of a sniper was to wait for the perfect moment, to find that one second when the mark exposes themselves. And that moment at last came. In the wake of Finn’s Holy Sword Slash, she saw it. She didn’t know exactly what it was. It looked like a three foot eye around which Black Ink and White snow swirled. It was only visible in the moment of quiet after Finn’s slash where a 500 foot wedge was for a second completely vaporized and empty. There on the north side, higher than the undead crows but within reach of her Far Shot was the Eye. There was no time to think, her decision had been set long ago. With a squeeze of her finger, the special spiked projectile ripped through the air faster than most could track. It went right through the empty arc of golden light, picking up a hint of the divine radiance and carrying a contrail of it towards the Eye.

When the projectile struck the Eye, the Eye collapsed. Like a popped balloon Azjorath the Hungry wind was gone. All noise was taken with it. All the thousands of tiny projectiles, ice, snow, and even the remaining bits of Black Rain fell to the ground. All the undead crows pulled back as well widening the boundary between them and the remaining sleds.

For Shalys thought one thing caught her attention. Her special, spiked bolt gleamed like a glittering diamond, catching the golden light projected by Finn and somehow piercing through it as the special, spiked bolt fell back towards the ground.

Vanta upon his sled gestured, moving his hands in a fast blur. Dark sigils cut through the fabric of creation, little black tears dribbled down from the sigils. Blacker than black tentacles darted out from distant shadows, where the sled had dropped into the crevice, wrapping around the legs and perhaps the bodies of those who had fallen down. They were strong, rubbery tentacles more difficult to break through, but they were also strangely gentle. Once tangled, they didn't squeeze, they just held and wavered slowly back and forth like a bronchus in the lungs of titantic being lined with hair-like projections that moved microbes and debris up and out of the airways. There is a sense that a small portion of something massive had materialized for a time.

Vanta shrugged, “Can someone grab them? It is beyond me to help further.”

OOC -
* Azjorath the Hungry Wind is now gone. Everything is quiet and still.
* Black Rain was mostly vaporized, remaining amount fell to the ground after the Eye was hit.
* Undead crow swarm has retreated to about 40-100 ft away depending on the sled.
* Two sleds are down. Vanta’s tentacles have tangled some of the people, dogs, sled, and gear that fell into the crevice. At least they aren’t falling further, but to liberate anything caught up requires 1 action and 2 HP of damage. Your choice what exactly if you go to help. The other sled fell over when it hit a hill of ice and it’s contents and people are spread about roughly 20-30‘ now from where the rear guard is.
* Count Valleros' second eldest son, Viktor Von Valleros. Viktor and his entourage of dragoons and minions are still camouflaged both visually and auditorial, but not by scent.

It had been some time since she had left Aslan and the Duchy behind her. Mimi had headed north to find more beastfolk as the information she had been given suggested she should. The farther she could get from humans the better. However, even with the winter gear she picked up before leaving the Duchy, the weather here in the north was brutally cold. She had travelled a good deal on foot, when she couldn't find a cart to take her, but once she had reached the snow line, it had become much more difficult. Luckily, she had come across a sled caravan that was taking passengers. While her first interaction with the leader, Aurora, had been mildly tense, once dominance had been established, Mimi found she was rather fond of the Artic Wolf Woman.

She got grouped up with a family of humans, a woman, her husband, and there two small kids. While she wasn't thrilled to be involved with humans, these ones didn't throw things at her or chase her out of town. In fact they were rather kind to her, as if they were accustomed to Beastfolk. The two adults treated her much like a child, having her help menially with the loading of the sleds. She spoke briefly with the woman during the trip, while the husband drove the sled. All in all she had rather enjoyed their time together.

But that was hours ago. It was hard to say she found anything about the current situation enjoyable. She sat huddled on the base of the sled, holding the two children against her as the flock of undead crows passed by overhead. The woman stood with her bow in hand, ready to release if any of the creatures got to close. Behind them, several sleds down the line, a bright light had erupted and some type of loud noise could be heard, accompanied by exploding undead birds. Mimi wasn't sure what was happening down there, but she was thankful for whoever they were, holding back the tide.

The man was attempting to talk to the driver of the sled next to them, but they couldn't hear anything with the wind howling. Mimi looked up at the other sled. She was squinting through the billowing snow at the two people in the back. Between the snow and the winter gear, she couldn't tell who or what they were, be they human, beastfolk, or something else. But suddenly, in an instant, they were gone. Their whole sled just vanished. From where she was sitting Mimi couldn't tell what had happened. She pulled the woolen blanket tighter over herself and the two children, trying to protect them from the wind.

In an instant, however, the wind vanished, and the crows began to put more distance between themselves and the sleds. Mimi looked out at the sleds in the back, where the action seemed to have died down. An overturned sled and several passengers, along with their goods, were about to be passed up. She wondered what would happen to them.

"Fuck, their down we gotta-"

Oh, he could hear again, thats nice, glad to see that the wind had died down... Errr, Hear the wind died down.

The sudden appearance of his fuzzy friend was a suprise, but, unfortunately their reunion would be short lived.

"lupa! Glad to see you! Wish I could stay and explain but that big mass is a Demon knight or something! Mind helping out with the group in those tentacles? I gotta help those folks down the way." He eyed the other carts... Odd...

"Where'd the other ones go? There was alot more wasn't there? Fuck it, if they ran off they ran off. Aurora I'm headin off to help those folks!" And, without another word or allowing his guide and his friend to say anything against it he jumped off and took off towards the folks who impacted the frozen hillside. He was no experienced snow...man? But he was quick on his feet and despite his armor he was well versed in pushing on despite the odds.

"Heres hoping these folks are quick on the uptake... Come on! Up and at em all together! Someone out there loop around we got folks here in need of pick up!

More we get faster we can get out! Leave the cargo things ain't worth your lives!" He began his barking, his shine keeping the danger... Somewhat at bay, but he certainly was able to be seen.

"Come on! Or you gonna tell me The Kingdom folks leave each other to die and have nary a bit of valor! Living ain't livin if it's living in cowardice!" He would spek and act, getting whatever injured he could out, but... If others were willing to help too, they could certainly all make it...

Or was it everyman for himself even here...?

Surely... These people had the valor and guts to be able to help one another when times are tough?

Shalys Dar’Miam "Hunter"

Location: Cliffside

Interactions: Finnegan ( Orikanyo Orikanyo ), Vanta ( gmimperfecti gmimperfecti )

Shalys' sharp eye served her well. Sure enough there was something odd out of this swarm, some sort of floating eye. She couldn't make too many details but she saw enough to line up a shot and hit it. She wasn't sure if it was truly destroyed or not, but there wasn't really any time for her to verify her kill. While there isn't an immediate threat of the monster crows anymore, many other sled teams were knocked out, some of them having fallen off a cliff. While Shalys would've preferred to have keep moving, her sled team choose to help, so Shalys figured she should lend a hand so things move quicker.

Shalys joined the loud knight in saving the others. She didn't really like his volume, however she can't deny that he was immensely useful in fending off those crows. Without him, Shalys would've had a much harder time taking out the eye between dodging and fighting crows. Unfortunately, strength wasn't one of Shalys' strong points, so she wasn't really able to help pull anyone up. So she did the nest best thing, taking out her barbed bolts and stabbing them into the ice to help people climb up and out from the cliffside. That should help out the other people, so Shalys would focus on saving the dogs. She had a soft spot for animals, and they would need the most help to get out. Plus they'd be needed to help pull the sleds if they're going to take more people as well.

Tyrmar

To say Tyrmar’s charge ended anticlimactically would be an understatement, he hadn’t expected the beam of light that seemed to cut through all the darkness created by those damn undead birds and send them crashing to the ground.

Once again he’d been too slow and too far, even as the sleds began to regroup and directions were shouted out he couldn’t help the burning in his chest. What was the reason he was brought back if not to use his skills to their fullest?

He didn’t have any answer for himself but he knew there’d be more enemies to come and dropping into sorrow here would spit on all he’d endured before.

“Now enough moping, time to carry your weight.”

The shining knight was currently attempting to rally the carts to go back for their fallen, other than him there were several notable figures fending off the hoard. The mage in black seemed to provide long range cover had tied the riders down so they wouldn’t be blown around, while the duo of archer and beastkin women seemed to be staying back on or near the carts respectively.

The damned crows were still flocking above despite staggering earlier, though he couldn’t bring the same ordinance to ear as the blond warrior he still felt he could lay down cover of his own.

“Exalted Heart:” his speedy pace allowed for him to skid up to the first group that’d fallen into the icy tundra closest to him, as his armor provided a beacon to grab onto in the harsh weather Tyrmar gave a hard stomp into the ground setting his core firmly before letting loose into the sky with a roaring uppercut. “Soaring Squall!”

From the singular point that was his fist, blasts of force exploded outwards like beams of light, separating and streaking across a 100 ft distance to strike the flock that was closing in on the group farthest away overhead.

Not even allowing a moment of hesitation he threw the three occupants on his shoulders before bursting off once again back towards the carts.

Scene 1, Round 3: Broken Dreams and Regenerating Nightmares!
And, without another word or allowing his guide and his friend to say anything against it he jumped off and took off towards the folks who impacted the frozen hillside. He was no experienced snow...man? But he was quick on his feet and despite his armor he was well versed in pushing on despite the odds.

Aurora growled as Finn jumped away. The sled was traveling close to 20mph, and braking it was not easy. "Mind..." She whined in anxiety and then cursed. "Fine." She pulled on the reins and executed what could only be called a donut, swirling the dog sled and pivoting it somehow, displacing the forward momentum into angular and causing the sled to pivot and swirl. As she did she tossed out a snow anchor to settle the sled and jumped off the whole thing before it stopped moving.

The third passenger in the sled, a white robed mage, vomited when the sled finally stopped. After puking their guts out, they wobbly looked around and conjured a shimmering shield over the sled. It didn't look like a strong barrier but the few undead crows that dive bombed from 100 feet up, rebounded off of it. At least the dogs and sled would be safe for awhile.

Aurora landed, rolled, and ran after Finn.

Finn's words carried a warmth to them, thawing the coldest of hearts. Even those who had written off the group and had sought to rush ahead! And what fortune luck was it that those sleds in the vanguard turned at the exact moment that they did? Just as the now lead sled stopped, executing a tight turn, the ground before them gave away exposing another crevice! Indeed, several of the sleds narrowly escaped falling into crevices because they heeded Finn's words. Three additional sleds were saved from plunging into the cold depths beneath the snowpack by Finn's words alone!

The remaining sleds pulled around and one or two people jumped off each one to help.

Glancing back at the crevices, Aurora swore. "What's going on?" she whispered, before refocusing her attention on those who needed help.

"Hold on," the husband whispered, just loud enough for his family and Mimi to hear, as he turned the sled to come back around and huddle up with the group. The husband jumped out the sled stopped, setting the snow anchor and running to help the sled that had plunged into the crevice. Behind them, Mimi could see the crevice that they had narrowly avoided thanks to listening to Finn's call for help.

With the bolts planted into the snow forming an easy to access scaffolding, people started to crowd around the crevice. The first person was easy to rescue as their body was right at the lip of the precipice. One of the people used an ice ax to cut the black tentacle away, while two others pulled the tangled person away.

The other two people and the dogs were another matter!

Tyrmar's fist cleaved the sky. His upper cut rippled with energy that cut apart a host of crows overhead. Turning back to help, he couldn't help but notice the hundreds of crows slain once more broke apart like a popped balloon or like melted snow, the inky blackness they were comprised of turning liquid and falling down like rain.

1677037445481.png"Fool!" Count Valleros' second eldest son, Viktor Von Valleros bellowed, materializing surprisingly close to Tyrmar's uppercut. With a gesture of his hand, four fingers held together in an upward slashing gesture. Several volleys of slush and water arched over the group, four Winter Wizards in the service of Viktor finally became visible again. Each had casted an identical Winter's Breath of Spring spell. The result was the Black Rain falling down towards the party was brushed aside, landing around the group by not touching anyone.

Viktor made another hand gesture, two fingers in a flicking poi1677037605237.pngnting gesture and one of his dragoons leapt high into the air, landing where Shalys glittering barbed bolt had fallen after hitting the Eye. The dragoon pocketed the bolt and leapt back towards Viktor.

"Idiots," he said, shaking his head and gestured three fingers on his left hand, signaling the remaining three dragoons.

The three dragoons became visible as they leapt through the air, dropping into the crevice even as Aurora and a few other brave souls were attempting to climb down into the crevice! The dragoons dove through the air like a bird of prey, swooping past the people climbing down on Shaly's bolts. The first dragoon stopped himself by driving his lance into the side of the crevice near the bottom. The other two used their lances in a similar capacity, ignoring the cries of those above. Two reappeared a few moments later with the two men down below. They deposited the rescued men, handing them over to the crowd by the crevice.

The third dragoon came leaping out of the crevice, carrying a bundle of the assets on the sled. This bundle he tossed to the sled master on one of Viktor's sleds. "Those will do," he said.

1677037206939.pngAll the while, Viktor unsheathed his gleaming, silver sword and eyed Finn. "Satisfied now that we've risked the lives of every man, women, and child to rescue a few who fell to incompetence?" Viktor took a deep breath and sighed.

Even as he spoke though, the ground about a thousand feet out started to tremble. Cracks formed and veered, connecting with many unseen crevices opening up several large chasms. Where as only moments before the vast plain of hard packed snow had appeared like a crumpled sheet of white paper, now it was split like the ice flows of a broken glacier!

1677038503095.png

What caused this to happen was hard to guess without skills or abilities that might see, feel, or know what was transpiring over a thousand feet away. Now that everyone was rescued, except for the dogs down the crevice, but with what was happening in the distance, everyone near that crevice ran backwards. Indeed, it seemed like whatever was happening far away was rapidly approaching! Hundreds of unseen crevices groaned and shattered, giving way.

The group was lucky indeed, because what had appeared like a stable field was most definitely not! "Impossible!" Aurora whispered, shaking her head. Many of the other veterans joined her. After all there was no where to go! The ice fields had broken, making moving forward by sled impossible. Perhaps those with supernatural movement abilities would be okay on foot, but the vast majority wouldn't.

Behind and to the sides was still the swarm of undead crows, who had been thinned down due to the numerous attacks. From the original thousands, hundreds upon hundreds had been killed, turned into the Black Rain and then either vaporized or dispersed. Still hundreds and hundreds remained, even if they were spread out and further away. The swarm circled and moved at tremendous speeds of over 100mph!

1677041253996.pngAnd then Finn's luck turned. Somehow the crows were respawning!

For some, the clumps and droplets of black inky ooze flowed together, solidifying and forming a crow-like shape until it became life like. For others, it appeared like some of the crows were dividing, splitting into two smaller crows and then quickly growing back to normal size. By far the puddles of black inky ooze remade themselves much faster than the splitting crows, but both were in happening.

Vanta watched everything unfolding, transfixed by what he was seeing. His sled had veered around like all the others, and he was now near the periphery of the forming crowd of people. He hadn't appeared to do much, but he had been watching. There upon the ground buried amongst the snow, slush, and black ichor, were tiny black eyeballs. His eyeballs. Most importantly for him, he'd cast them over the black ichor and as the crows reformed they were covered in the tiny black eyeballs. "You don't see that everyday, now do you?" He smiled, talking to himself as much as the people around him. His words were low. He was still hesitant to invite Azjorath the Hungry Wind back. He'd watched her carefully and had begun formulating some ideas as to the symbiotic relationship between Azjorath and the Crows. "It's like a system." He chewed on his lower lip, squinting and then whirling as the ice sheet a thousand feet away gave way. "Not complete, is it?" He shook his head, puzzling over the clues but not seeing the shape of things yet.

Through unforgetting, he learns not what is but what is not, detecting the relative levels of absence around him which lingers for an hour before reality heals itself and the distortion fades. Vanta is able to detect the difference between shadow, darkness, deeper darkness, and deepest darkness. If someone is lost, how lost they are. If someone is in debt, how in debt they are. Mimi watched as the man ran to help the fallen sled. Mimi wanted to help too, but wasn't sure how. Fissures were beginning to open up in the ice all around them. This family had been kind to her and she wanted to repay that kindness. She pulled the children tighter to her. "Don't worry I'll protect you." The woman cried out as something began to happen with the blobs that were once crows. As Mimi looked out the back of the sled, two of the blobs merged to create a horrid puddle of inky blackness. She stood up and hugged the children, making sure the blanket was secured tightly around them, smiling to show them everything was okay. Then she leaped over the side of the sled and went into a fighting stance, ready to repel any slimes or crows that attempted to assault the sled.

"Hahaha!! Brilliant, of course i'm thankful, abit grouchy but its good to see people haven't lost their spine for helping the fellow man yet!

And it seems... Others are on their way as well!" The appearances of the others, their actions and valor... Ah... It filled his heart full of fire... To see people truely coming together... Truely work as one to fight not just for themselves but together as one!

"Auri my dear! Glad to see you could turn it! Truely I have to give you a bonus for your work and bravery. You look as gallant as you are. Keep it up!

...With the crevices broken open I guess we'll be fighting today." He couldn't help but notice as well another canine woman, sticking to fight the good fight, she was rather cute... Maybe Regula was rubbing off on him abit... Fine collection of fluffy friends heading northward. But more important things to worry about now...

"Hmm, seems we've still got trouble, their reforming... Bastard probably has regenerative qualities... Hate dealing with the types need to cut the snakes head off and be done. But... Where might it be...." he thought about this for a moment... Then... Remembered something... "You all seem strong types, pick your shots carefully, we'll need to find the head of this snake...

And I know how to make it bite..." he takes in a deep breath, then lets himself give off a smile that... Really... Really made him look like he was about to get punched, and fully enjoy it.

"...Abyssal Knight! Baron of the Lingering Darkness. I know your bareings! Truely a foolish thing to call a man a knight but not show his face. But I take it being a baron puts you below cowardice!? I suppous thats par for the course of Baron of sludge and dead carrion birds.

Am I to be impressed or disgusted by your form?

Come on down and play with the big boys i've been hoping to meet a suitable foe coming here!" Finn stepped forwards, cracking his neck and he spread out his arms.

"Are your thousand parts crow? Or just chicken given flight?

I truely don't have all day, you've hurt my new friends, you've soiled their clothes with your filth and you've been a terrible nuisance to all involved! Par for the course for a chicken eh?

Come on! Show me your face, show me your ire! Or are you afraid of me? A simple knight named Finn?" He was away from the others now, giving just enough space so that he could signal himself out... Truely, he looked the type of man who'd walk up to God's Throne and spit on the altar before it.

For those unknowing, it looked like he was just pissing it off. For those who knew... Thats exactly what he was doing, for what better way to keep a foe on you than to stoke that ire with a can of kerosine.

Tyrmar

The weight of the civilians was near nothing to Tyrmar as he speedily returned them to a cart further from the fissures in the icy rock, even though the situation may have looked dire the fact that they’d all been grouped up instead of separated by the icy winds amongst a horde of undead regenerative foes was a small blessing.

As one with a regenerative factor of his own he knew for a fact they’d need an extra bit of striking power to take the enemies down for good, luckily the caravan seemed to have an able amount of combatants amongst their number. As he contemplated his next move in a blur even faster than himself he saw the blonde knight rush forward into the fray shouting his lungs out for everyone to hear over the rushing cold air.

Though anyone could say that it was simple bluster and bragging, Tyrmar saw the method to his madness and couldn’t help but tense and smile as a strategy fell into place in his mind.

“Interesting, ALRIGHT THEN I’LL BITE!” Turning towards Viktor and his surrounding men without letting his attitude affect his own mood he quickly gave out an order to assist.

“You all seem competent enough and I know you’ve seen how these pests operate by now, the Knight there is gonna gather them up so I can swat them all down, you folk just focus on taking out the remainder after they fall and try to heal!” With his peace spoken Tyrmar followed on Finn’s trail letting the orb of golden light be a beacon for his next move. (Compassionate Charisma E)

As he ran forward he considered every aspect of the battlefield; the horde itself, the shining knight standing resolutely waiting for their charge, the frozen winds cutting across the wastes and finally his own form filled to the brim with force waiting to explode out, it all came together like pieces of a puzzle.

‘Yes, that’ll do.’ With each step he charged towards the flying murder, the snow crunching beneath him as he made his way closer and closer to his target. With a slide in the sleet he stomped into position before letting out a palm strike with the full force of his arts.

He had full confidence in himself that his blow would hit, for he had not aimed at the sky crowded by fell abominations nor the frosty earth.

He aimed it at the back of the blond knight in armor composed of steel and shielded by light who was shouting his ambitions to the world.

Light upon light would compound.

Force upon steel would echo out.

And Tyrmar’s Will would assure that none would be affected except for the enemies that he himself determined.

Finns words were like a hook, drawing in the eyes of the undead crows. The chaotic, maddening chorus of squawking gained a coherence. The wheeling, flying crows veered and jerked through the air. Their forms began to elongate and stretch back like elongation of shadows as the sun sets.

Finns golden aura lingered about him and stretched for 50' in all directions radiating the warmth of the sun. All the people saved and many of those from the sleds clamored and jockeyed to be near Finn.

A few were too far away or unable to get close.

Fissures were beginning to open up in the ice all around them. This family had been kind to her and she wanted to repay that kindness. She pulled the children tighter to her. "Don't worry I'll protect you." The woman cried out as something began to happen with the blobs that were once crows.

A few of the crows swooped lower as their bodies elongated, becoming oozy and stretched out. Pieces of one crow touched another and stretched further like every lengthening shadows. Their forms lost all their hard edges. Feathers fell but did not disconnect, rather they became lines of various thickness and shape stretching back and reaching back towards a point a couple of hundred feet behind everyone. More of the crows stretched and elongated, touching and weaving together.

"Are your thousand parts crow? Or just chicken given flight?

I truly don't have all day, you've hurt my new friends, you've soiled their clothes with your filth, and you've been a terrible nuisance to all involved! Par for the course for a chicken eh?

Finn's words seemed to be working, the pace of reformation or change was accelerating! More of the people near huddled, but they also stepped towards the outer boundary of Finn's aura. Streaks of black began to converge at a point.

He aimed it at the back of the blond knight in armor composed of steel and shielded by light who was shouting his ambitions to the world.

Light upon light would compound.

Force upon steel would echo out.

And Tyrmar’s Will would assure that none would be affected except for the enemies that he himself determined.

“Exalted Heart: Devastating Wave!”

BOOM!

Tyrmar rushed at Finn's aura, calling upon his inner energy and the purity of his spirit, channeling, focusing it through his heart and let all that light carry on a pulse along the artery in his arm, down his forearm and through his fist. The timing was perfect. A glorious, heavenly chime rang out, spreading out in all directions. The light of Finn's golden aura translated from golden light to holy chorus. The holy chorus traveled out at the speed of sound!

[Holy Communion: Divine Resonance of the Ascending Fist]

As the sound wave carried outward in an ever expanding radius. Every liquifying, elongating crow that it touched was vaporized. Over a thousand crows were vaporized by the convergence of Finn's aura and Tyrmar's fist until nothing was left.

The sound continued outward. The sound reached in all directions including above.

Azjorath the Hungry Wind stretched endlessly. It was said she was ancient, endless, and primordial. And she was roused by noise. Even as the wind began to blow once more, coming this time from every direction it was still a mile away. The snow and ice picked up was visible. The movement of clouds moving and converging was visible if one paid attention, but that was a problem for the near future.

The holy chorus, the ringing of the Bell Divine had also spread below.

The ground continued to fall away from a thousand of feet away. It approached in a V-like line. The snow began to melt as something approached, burning through the snow and ice, causing it to shimmer, liquify and everything in its wake to shatter and fall down. The broken land seemed to stretch towards the group at an accelerating pace!

And then it breeched!

An avalanche of gnashing teeth, bone hooks, and worm rolled forward in a wave of undulating parts. At the forefront of this thrashing, tentacled body yawned a howling pit of a mouth, ringed with a spiral of churning teeth and three massive, spiked mandibles. Smoke leaked from the beasts mighty maw, and a hint of flame could be seen within as it lets loose an unholy shriek.

"Cinder Scourge!" Aurora shouted and the everyone fled. Some rushed for their sleds and tried to get the dogs focused before the dogs bolted on their own. Others just ran in a mad dash. It was chaos.

As it breached, it emitted a wholly unnatural shriek, a howl not of the mortal world. Everyone who heard it felt something stir and rattle them to their core, if their hearts were no stout or the lacked a way to resist. The howl was like the anthesis of the holy sound that had just washed away the undead crow swarm.

OOC
  1. Resisting the Cinder Scourge's Unnatural Shriek requires Effectiveness 15. Failure means you lose 1 action per round and/or your movement is only 20 feet per round. Any social or sonic-based resistance only requires Effectiveness 12.
  2. Azjorath the Hungry Wind is coming but it'll be a round or two until she piles in the chaos.
  3. Cinder Scourge is a huge 40' worm that melts through the snow. It appears able to tunnel below or surface as needed.
  4. All the undead crows are vaporized, gone for good.

"...Huh..." thats all he could say, he didn't have exactly too much he could say. Somebody rang him and his aura like a bloody bell. That fellah did, guess thats that for the swarm the-

Oh.

"Oh so THATS what been breaking the ice! Makes sense makes sense!" The man nodded with understanding, as if the gigantic worm wasn't too much of a threat or utter terror to the world around it. Really he was silently suprised it would go after them, what with all the fact they weren't exactly filling meals... No wait... He quickly head counted.... Actually maybe...

Wait... What was it doing-

The screech threatened to blow out the ears of all who were there, Finn's own were shocked from the sound... The sound like before it... It... It was like.... IT WAS JUST LIKE WHEN OPHENIA SANG!!!

His body shuddered and shook under the sonic waves then....

...

Oh...? Oh, his hearing went.

All he could hear is a long ringing noice in his ears. Well, uhh...

Thats nice, shame he couldn't hear for now.

Mind shield C + Vit A+ armor defences B = 15 effectiveness vs 15 effectiveness, hearing gone though.

But the worm... It was big.... Perhaps... Ah screw it time for battle!!! Really what else did he need to do? Nothing! Push forward and do what heroes do best!

And save the damned day!!!

Kneeling slightly, he sped off towards the creature, light gaining upon his blade with each and every step till it seared the very ice it hung above. His eyes on the worm, watching it's furling body and large mouth, he remember slightly something about worms being able to survive if cut in half... But... could it survive if cut length wise? It was... About 40 feet... So... maybe... He took deep breaths... This certainly was what he came her for. If he could kill this in one strike... They could at least get some breathing room, so he had to act while it was busy roaring! Ignoring the pain rattling his mind, his head was mentally shielding against such attacks, his approach with with brave abandon!

He skidded to a stop before the beast, bringing the blade skywards after ripping aling the ground, the golden light sailing forth from the strike!

"Begone!"

A frosty breath escaped the lips of a Vindrhal native as he stirred, half buried in snow. Rising from the frigid powder, Uriah Ulrichson shook off the snow clinging to his cloak and pulled the bearskin tight against his body. Though he was accustomed to the cold of Vindrhal, it did not mean that all caution had to be thrown to Wind when such a blizzard was blowing through. He was still a mortal man who could only take so much of the cold. If there was any hope of surviving, he had to preserve his warmth and find the others. Speaking of which...where were the others?

He was traveling with several nomads along the coast, following a caravan searching for members of the Aegirstorm Clan. The nomads had expressed uncertainty with the expedition at this time of year and this day in particular, but Uriah had brushed the notion aside, not wanting to be left behind by the caravan. Their journey was uneventful if colder than usual...until he had heard the screech of ravens, gutteral and unholy-unlike any he'd ever heard before. It was at this point his memory failed him. All he remembered was the sled overturning and him flying into a bank of snow. A crate or the sled itself must have struck him, on account of his sudden loss of consciousness then, but his party was nowhere to be seen.

As the Vindrsønn regained his senses, the screams of terror and panic reached his ears. In an attempt to see where they noise originated, he swept his gaze from right to left, searching the blinding, frozen plains for anyone and people he certainly saw...but also much more than he expected. For one, the vast stretches of ice that he expected to see were now carved with crevices that plunged into the earth. What was more, he had been just several arm lengths from the sheer edge of the white plateau. His focus on the scenery was not for long, however, as his attention was captured by the massive serpent that shot out of the ground some 30 arm lengths (ft) away with an unholy cacophony that deafened Uriah's senses once again.

The barbarian stumbled, taking an unintended step toward the edge, but managed to find his footing before he stepped off. Clutching his ears, he roared in defiance, even if it was drowned out by the unnatural sound of the beast. Perhaps it was a fool's errand to hope to stand against such a mighty beast, but Uriah certainly did not see any other way to survive the day. On all sides, he was surrounded by cliffs that would certainly put an early end to his life, so there was nowhere to run. And where would he hide in this frozen desert? Even if he could, how would he make it to the next village without succumbing to the ice, to hunger, to thirst, to beasts?

No, even if he had the option, Uriah Ulrichson was no coward nor a pliable opportunist who flees simply because the Wind was not at his back. The Vindrsønn's hand reached to his back, where his axe was secured with several leather straps. In a practiced motion, he undid the buckle securing the Logsplitter and drew it into his hands. The worn wooden handle was clamped tight by hands that refused to let the slick snow deny the warrior his weapon as he strode toward the battle.

Already entangled in the scaleless serpent's rage was a golden-haired knight in gleaming arms shining like the morning sun. Even before seeing him act, Uriah had the impression that this was a powerful man, no thanks to the gleaming aura that the remainder of the caravan huddled under. A hero to the masses no doubt, with whatever blessing he had that gave him the confidence to stand fearlessly against the serpent. In his approach, Uriah saw what the hero had to boast, as a slash tore through the air, radiating with golden light. It was as if the sun itself swung its sword against the beast.

Despite the awe-inspiring display of power, Uriah was not foolish enough to believe a single strike could fell a beast such as that. Or, even if he did, he did not wish to be left with no glory to boast in the aftermath. Gripping his axe even harder, as if he feared that not just the ice, but the wind would wish to disarm him, he beseeched the Great Wind to his aid, "Oh blessed Wind, I ask for your Tempest on this humble axe, a mighty storm that may fell this wicked beast. May Vindrhal grow ever white with glory..."

At just several arm lengths away (10ft), Uriah brought the ax above his head, the head now swirling with a Tempest untameable. Frost from the air revealed the vortex forming around the weapon as Uriah began to bring the axe forward with all his might, releasing it at its apex to send it spinning through the air. As it flung towards the great scaleless serpent, the Tempest reached the peak of its range, forming blades of wicked wind that wreathed the axe as it attempted to cut through the side of the monster, all as Uriah bellowed, "Reckon with the Wind, foul beast!!"

Tyrmar
Truly no matter the place, the battlefield was always chaotic and ever changing, just as he’d believed they were free of further assault an entirely different version of enemy came forth to attack.

Taking a moment as his hand healed, Tyrmar sped forward only to be halted by the wave of sound that roared from the worms mouth, for a moment every pore on his body was set on edge and the memory of an slathering mouth inside a dark old tree came to the forefront of his mind.

He shivered in fear for a moment and the only thing that would ease his stricken mind was the destruction of his enemy.

“I’LL OBLITERATE YOU!” Taking up position by the blinding light and raging cold Tyrmar struck once more, blasts of force launching from his fist and arching through the air to strike at the back of the beast and hopefully send it back to frosted hell where it belonged. (Soaring Squall D)

Mimi
Mimi.jpg
As the wurm breached the ice and roared, Mimi's ears and tail fell. There was little she could do against such a foe. But she had been set with a task. 'Keep the children safe'. She jumped back into the sled and picked up the children under her arms, hopping out the back and running toward the rest of the group, away from the beast. The roar had slowed her movement, as she struggled to keep from being paralyzed with fear, but her directive pushed her forth. Ahead of her a glowing beacon of light against the cold blowing snow in the night. It was her destination. If she could just reach him, just get behind him, the children would be safer. She moved across the ice as quickly as she could without falling. Suddenly the man moved and a wave of golden light flew past her, rippling her dress from the force. She turned to look, following the wave to see what impact it had on the wurm.

The Cinder Scourge’s howl faded without Azjorath to pick it up and rebound it. Almost everyone was nevertheless impacted as the horrid sound not only quivered souls and dulled actions, but even the ground showed signs of stress fractures.

“It’s not supposed to be this close to the coast,” Aurora the Arctic Wolf beastkin kept whispering over and over. “This is madness!” After she gathered herself and seeing the situation for what it was she called for general retreat.

She jumped back into the sled and picked up the children under her arms, hopping out the back and running toward the rest of the group, away from the beast. The roar had slowed her movement, as she struggled to keep from being paralyzed with fear, but her directive pushed her forth.

Mimi arrived within Finn’s golden light, feeling the holy warmth. Still there were dangers to staying so close. Many of the sledmasters took the merchants and families that had no hope and turned around to flee. However it was a struggle to get the sled dogs to listen and move, as the dogs wanted to all flee but couldn't agree on a direction. Much gear and even a few passengers were dropped as majority fled back the way they came. Although they only made it fifty feet before the attacks started.

Oh blessed Wind, I ask for your Tempest on this humble axe, a mighty storm that may fell this wicked beast.

The Blessed Wind did not respond to the call, but another primordial being did!

It was said the wind of the north was alive and hungry in winter, roused from it's summertime slumber by the quiet cold that stole the warmth of exposed skin. Eager to join in, Azjorath the Hungry Wind, rushed at the first sound from Urial, whipping into a frenzy as more noise was made. Each shout was reverberated back with insane intensity. Urial's vortex was matched with a vortex from Azjorath the Hungry Wind.

Tempest untameable formed around his axe picking up the cyclone of frosty air and turning it into a buzz saw of furious, angry ice and hail. The release was carried by Azjorath as a sonic boom towards the Cinder Scourge.

[Combo Fury of the Hungry Tempest: Added Piercing F]

Even Urial's shadow bubbled and rippled as if alive!

Each fist struck like the peal of a thunderous bell. Boom! Boom! Boom! Laced with divine intent and holy goodness, the sounds were nevertheless carried and augmented by Azjorath the Hungry Wind. For once her fury seemed entirely focused on the Cinder Scourge. Chunks off the beasts hide burst with each blow.

Many others joining in. Aurora sent several daggers of ice flying towards the Cinder Scourge.

Viktor Von Valleros sent his flying, silver sword forth in a furry of glittering slashes that looked like a silver cloud. His Dragoons threw massive barbed spears and his Winter Wizards hurled blizzards of ice and furious gales. Each ice, snow, and wind type of attack was picked up and supplemented by Azjorath.

Va nta joined in. Like a silent shadow his wand tore through Creation and sen t black tendrils leaking into the light. Ten large black tentacles reared up from the Cinder Scourges body and helped tether it in a tangle for a few seconds. Long enough to make hitting the creature and predicting the repurcussions of the splattering molten sand. The tentacles themselves tried to grapple and squeeze the burning flesh but took damage doing it.

All of these took thier toll upon the massive worm, the ice cooled it's boiling skin. The slashes, punches, and piercing damage chipped off pieces of the beasts carpace.

The Cinder Scourges blood was molten salt, each wound sent great sprays of the stuff spurting out! Those that attacked at close range were forced to dodge or deflect the super heated stuff or suffer terrible burns that boiled flesh and melted bone. Indeed, one of the Dragoons took a particular nasty splatter to the face, causing his head to melt before everyone's eyes!

He skidded to a stop before the beast, bringing the blade skywards after ripping along the ground, the golden light sailing forth from the strike!

"Begone!"

A single pane of golden light descended from the heavens bisecting the Cinder Scourge. It's protective carapace was in tatters already, spurting molten salt that melted through snow and bodies alike. However as the light descended, the Cinder Scourges' mouth opened wide emitting a cone of superheated smoke and cinders that sprayed up into the air. Finn's light came down and slammed into the smoke and cinders. The two forces warred, pushing against each other. After seconds in opposition, Finn's light finally pushed through. It was weakened, a dim flicker of what it had been. The light continued and bisected the remains of the Cinder Scourge's carpace.

Finn was only partially right. The worm was bisectted length wise. Strange symbols and orange globules of collected energy burst! A cloud of cinders and steam burst out, spreading in a ploom. It melted the snow and ice beneath and caused the whole remains and anything within the carpace to fall hundreds of feet through the ground. More cracks formed from around the 60 foot in diameter hole and spreading outward.

Total Teamup: 29?
- Finn (16 effective, -2 Str, +1 aura dmg)
- Tyr Teamup (+1 effective)
- Urial Teamup (+1 effective, blight E)
- Aurora (+1 effective, blight F)
- Viktor Von Valleros (+9 effective)
- Vanta (+1 effective, Tangle E)

If you were in the area for either the blood splatter or stream cloud respond accordingly. If you can't dodge or mitigate etc then take some damage. It's unlikely anyone fell in the new hole but the surrounding area is starting to give way as more of the glacier collapses in on itself.

No more enemies present themselves but you'll have to decide if you want to jump down and see what remains of the Cinder Scourge, figure out how to move forward or loose 3 days going around.

Food and gear took a pretty big hit, several people are injured and the group is spread out over at least 300 - 500 feet.
