Graded [Fallen Blossom Shrine] Falling to Rise

Alfis
Alfis nodded in response to Masanori's words. Realistically, such a thing would never happen, but it is still reassuring to imagine that one day it would. If such a thing did happen, would it create a dull and static world that he was attempting to avoid? He did not know. He could only focus on the present, lowering his head when met with Masanori's praises. "Thank you for your kind words."

As the Pale Moon Saki was poured for him, Alfis curiously inspected it. The drink was pale and seemed to shimmer lightly. He had to wonder what part of the saki created such a result. If it were back in his past life, he would have been worried that it was detrimental to his health, but one never knew in this world. He was also concerned it was dangerous to his health for other reasons, but he would have to have some faith in his host.

As Alfis raised the cup to his lips, however, the gathering was joined by two more guests. Though he was unfamiliar with the first man, he recognized the furry figure of this hunt's commander. As the man known as Seikatsu Mitsunari introduced himself, he could help but feel a strange sense of vulnerability that his brain soon registered as being appraised. On realizing that, he could only frown at the man's audacity, only able to avoid saying anything as the commander stepped forward and began introductions.

It seemed that whether he was aware of the exact reason or not, Indicus did not seem to have a good impression of Mitsunari either with his blunt introduction. Ignoring his current annoyance, Alfis politely bowed toward the two as he introduced himself again. "I'm Alfis, an earth aspect mage and aspiring chef." he gave the same introduction as before, albeit slightly shortened due to his mood and not wanting to repeat himself too much. "Although Sage Mitsunari seems more experienced than myself, I'll assist him how I can and focus my efforts offensively if he will be supporting.

Although still annoyed at having been appraised and disappointed at having a more experienced mage show themselves, Alfis took a moment to calm himself. Having a Sage around boosted their odds of success greatly and significantly lowered the chances of death or major injury. While this didn't excuse the man's prior actions, it would be best to try and maintain a somewhat stable relationship within the group. On top of it all, the action didn't seem to be particularly malicious, and the kitsune didn't seem to be there entirely. Mistunari seemed distracted and maybe even...anxious about something?

Whatever it was, Alfis decided he would attempt to start anew with the kitsune.
"If it is not presumptuous, I'd like to learn more about you and your insights into magic, Sage Mitsunari." With a soft smile, he politely lowered his head slightly. Whether or not the kitsune would agree to it, Alfis was content with the fact that he had attempted to reach out to the man. As a bonus, If he succeeded, he likely wouldn't have to worry about any danger or poisons nearly as much.

Five Thousand Peony Blossoms: It began in fire, Part 2
The logistical unit bonded over several rounds of the Pale Moon Saki. A few may have tried their hands at Haiku and poetry the afternoon gave way to evening, but mostly it was the Geisha that recited Haiku while she played Biwa, plucking the strings with delicate fingers. Her two tales wagged and Masanori explained at one point that not all the Geisha were Tanuki. Indeed, this particular Geisha named Kumara was beautiful, long legged and two tailed, rescued as a cub and allowed to lean into her racial skills. Of course the Geisha in this house only gave succor and company to their patrons; this was not a brothel. There was no darkness nor seedy underbelly at this establishment. It didn’t preclude entanglements from forming, but that was actively discouraged and against Tanuki etiquette at this level of society. That was not to say a companion for such things couldn’t be gotten, it was just done tastefully in private not overtly in public.

1670947407938.png

Thus the afternoon was light, filled with jovial conversations, tasty snacks, and delicious bottle of Pale Moon Saki. It was the kind of bright and warm day that should be cherished, one of the few remaining while the Cherrry Blossoms still had not fallen and the terrible cold of the north had yet to fully take root. The food was equally great and a warm fire was kindled in the center of the room as the evenings chill came out. The rounds of the Pale Moon saki came slow and measured, and when those ran out there were lesser vintages, even one from Alfis own inn! It gave Alfis the opportunity to gush about his roots and discuss potential relationships with the Masanori family.

As evening descended and the sun went below the horizon, the Geisha in the courtyard approached the pavilion with hot steaming tea and ice cold mochi. The platter of mochi was multi colored like a rainbow hinting an array of flavors. The tea filled the room with an earthy, spicy aroma that tickled at the corners of everyone’s minds. Of course at this point with the saki sloshing through everyone’s bodies and the great food, the atmosphere was completely relaxed.

At first everything seemed fine. There was no reason to be alarmed. The good times seemed ready to roll on. However, when the Geisha pouring the tea approached Indicus a single tear fell down from her right eye. She opened her mouth to try and say something to the dragon kin, but what came out was a spray of silver vomit the splattered over everything. Like living napalm or molten silver, it burned with white hot heat and was almost impossible to dislodge to whatever it touched. The vapor given off as it burned through the table, the floor and even the walls reacted with the intoxication to further eat away at their victims minds. Like parasitic worms, thought became difficult as their brains filled with a fugue.

Worse as the seconds wore on everything the moften silver vomit touched ignited into flames! The floor, the ceiling, and three of the walls were bathed in silver flame making escaping through the door into the courtyard extremely risky. The only place untouched was the far side of the pavilion where Indicus had earlier spotted a window, which was open to let the night’s breeze in.

This is a surprise round unless you have a great excuse why you weren’t surprised!
Surprise: characters unaware of the enemy or the direction of attack coming their way are assumed to not be defending against it. In such situations, only certain sense skills or all encompassing defensive abilities used in advance can mitigate this.

Note we are in combat so only 3 actions and ability cool downs are a thing now.

Speed-based dodges are at a -2 penalty (-1 drunk, -1 AOE).
Vitality or Strength-based resist can be stunted for +1 if you are creative.

IF your HP reaches 0 you will go unconscious but not die. Saxon told me I’m not allowed to kill anyone.

As a combo attack, the second effect if you are touched with the liquid silver AOE attack is Weaken Int at Effectiveness 13. This is a Grade C affect, which means -4 to Intelligence-based effectiveness for the remainder of the scene. It would be a bit like being blackout drunk where you act with animalistic instincts!

Note that unless you have a way to not be drunk at this point, you will have a -1 environmental penalty from drinking all night. You can be creative about how you aren’t drunk but didn’t disrespect your host if you want or if you have any other ways to not be drunk at this point.

If you still have your wits about you, you can try to resist the accompanying illusion.

Effectiveness 13, Illusion Grade C — “Burning House”

That’s right, very little damage is done by the breath attack. The actual payload seems to be the illusion with the damage and weaken int as ways to confuse and distract people to let the illusion settle in.

At this point you should also realize that something else is a foot and perhaps

  • NPC Vomiter E - Sawazuki the Tanuki Geisha.
has more going on then expect. She certainly doesn’t seem to be in good shape. Each round she continues to vomit against her will. And is now on the ground curled in a ball as her own silver burning vomit breath drives her insane.

Seikatsu Mitsunari
1670957726039.png

To call them an interesting lot would be generous, but they were unique if nothing else. A dragonborn was a new sight for Mitsunari, but he did not make a big deal of the man's species. It was clear he was not too interested in playing nice, although Mitsunari couldn't tell if that was because his attempt to Appraise the fox would not work or if there were other thoughts swimming around the reptile's mind. Either way his made himself comfortable and was surprised by the response he received from Alfis. "It is a pleasure to meet you both."

This tiger was a equally as interesting, solely for his use of magic and nothing more. Though his mastery of it was likely not on par with Mitsunari's own, the Kitsune still found engaging with other mages to be a chance to learn and grow his understanding of different forms of magic. "I would be delighted to discuss such things with you. Perhaps we may even teach each other something new." His tails rose up and started to dance about behind him, their black fur gleaming in the light.

The kitsune geisha who had been serving the group caught Mitsunari's attention purely for her species. This was technically only the second kitsune he had meet since coming to this world and if if playing a joke on him, the gods saw fit to make her a geisha. It left him wondering about the truth of the race as he had been told they were revered protectors of the people, but this seemed to contradict that.

Then as the night seemed to drag on one of the geisha vomited on the table. The substance however was not simply the contents of her stomach or a previous meal, it was some metallic ooze that seemed to burn through whatever it touched. Because he had come here for knowledge and to study Kuridan up close, he had not partaken in the sake to the point of inebriation. He'd only had one drink and after that nursed his cup to appear to be engaging like the others. So as the fire spread he was clear of mind and able to think properly. His first priority was to preserve his life and that of his investment, Yukan, but saving more than just him would go a long way. "Fox's Gift!" Mitsunari targeted everyone at the the table with his healing spell and a green aura would envelop them all.
  • Fox's Gift - Magic Affinity E, Magic Range F, Magic Targets F, Spell Duration F , Healing E - Cloaks targets in a pale green aura that then begins to heal their wounds, cure one disease, or non-lethal poison. - 30ft Range, 5 Target Maximum, 1 Hour Duration - E Grade - 1 Post Cooldown
All that remained was to get rid of the flames that threatened to burn them alive. "Fire Coalescence." He raised his open palm to the ceiling as he cast his next spell in an attempt to do away with the fire. If everyone at the table was drunk then they might be dangers to themselves with the metal still burning through things. But this was a chance for Yukan to show some leadership and win the admiration of those present. "Master Koyake! Please be careful!"
  • Fire Coalescence - Magic Affinity D, Magic AoE F, Fire Affinity F - This spell draws in fire from the targeted area and causes it to gather in a large sphere before the caster. The flames are then dispersed. - Grade D - 15ft Diameter - 2 post cooldown
Actions:
  • Cast healing spell Fox's Gift on Himself, Yukan, Masanori, Alfis, and Indicus
  • Cast spell Fire Coalescence
Cooldowns:
Fox's Gift: E Grade (0/1)
Fire Coalescence: D Grade (0/2)

Yukan tried his best to be moderate in his drinking, he knew very well what could happen if you got drunk with others and it wasn't anything good. As time went on he was probably feeling a bit buzzed, with some constraint, as he knew that in a drinking culture it was better to drink some than none lest you be the odd one out. Yukan tried his best to be polite with his etiquette and not cause any problems with the group, wanting to get to know each person there more since they would be working together. Everything seemed to be going fine actually, that was until one of the Geishas suddenly started spewing out some kind of silver all over the place,

Causing Yukan to jump up from his seat using basic dodge, speed + light armor but unfortunately he was hit due to a low effectiveness score the illusion working suddenly he felt a deep burning and was downed "AGH" Everything going dark like he had just passed out hitting the floor hard, but it wasn't long before suddenly he felt himself get rejuvinated and his eyes shot open revealing the fire around him as he felt lingering pain from the illusion where it had hit him, the healing helping quite a bit however to stifle those issues. He felt an unbelievable lack of clarity in his mind as he called out, being fooled by the illusion for the moment.
Trying to get himself up and head away from the fire instinctually. As he called out to everyone not sure about their status so frazzled, "Get..away from her..on me towards the window!"
he called out.

Actions: 1. Attempt to dodge with Basic Dodge,
2. Move towards window away from illusion fire.

His past life and mistakes as a thief burned one lesson in his mind one he once learned the hard way in a bar after a successful job. It was luck he left that bar without his money and a nasty stab wound in the arm back then. He always made it a point to minimize drinking since. If it was a setting where one was expected to drink, then drink slowly to be polite and never more then a single glass. It was a rule he lived by even in this second life besides intoxication kills most of foods taste, and with all this new food to try he did not want that. Besides the tea tasted great making for a good substitute for alcohol.

So just before the poor Geisha girl vomited her dangerous payload as she was refiling his tea Indicus felt his instincts scream at him to get out of the way of the girl of course he obeyed them and instinctively dodged (Reflexive dodge F) out of the way. This was when he learned a new lesson as he felt he was not as fast as usual. stuffing yourself induces a comfortable lethargy that kills your reaction time much like being drunk just without the mental inhibition.

As Indicus rolled out of the way he felt a searing pain as he was hit that caused him to blank out that was relived by the kitsune mage's healing. After being clear of the girl Indicus glanced around the room the odd colored fire blocking all exits but a window he spotted earlier. Indicus then looked at the Tanuki Geisha curled up on the ground, she looked in pain and a thought occurred to him, 'She's the source of the magic fire?' Indicus felt his mind was moving through a swamp.

Going on this line of thought he moved towards the girl and with his elbow knocked the lady in the temple in an attempt to render her unconscious without permanent harm. The problem was if this failed he would be hit by the next breath attack for sure.

Use (Reflexive Dodge F CD 0), Speed E, -1 Food lethargy (lasts 2 rounds) -1 AOE (Dodge effectiveness 1) Fail

Alfis

Thankfully time progressed rather uneventfully despite Alfis' paranoia. What he believed would be a drawn-out lunch ended up seeming like it would be an all-day affair. Although he appreciated Masanori's luxurious treatment, he would have rather used the extra time to further prepare for the hunt that puts their lives on the line. Although he was a professional who would fulfill his duty, he would likely think twice before working under Masanori in the future and make clear boundaries on how things would be handled if he did.

The food was still delicious, and though the others didn't seem particularly interested in conversation, Alfis did manage to find some solace in Mitsunari. The kitsune himself didn't seem interested in more than being acquaintances at the moment, but that did not stop them from having some compelling discussions about their insights into magic. Masanori gave him the opportunity to sell the qualities of his family's inn to the others, which he, of course, took advantage of. Despite his feelings that it was wasteful, he was content.

Though he'd like to claim that his guard remained raised, Alfis was not as infallible as he attempted to be. Though he did not refuse the pale moon saki, he was still strict enough with himself only to take savoring sips as he ate and make sure to drink water as well. This managed to keep him safe from becoming drunk but had the unintended consequences of eating more than intended and having more frequent bathroom breaks. Soon enough, the sun set, and the time of danger came with it.

While Alfis did try to maintain his guard to a degree, he still didn't believe anything would happen in what was essentially public still. This, however, was proven incorrect as he soon heard the all too familiar noise of someone vomiting he turned his attention towards. Unlike what he was accustomed to, however, this woman was releasing a silver and vicious liquid from her mouth that was light the room aflame. Before he could fully process what he was witnessing and do more than defend himself by raising his arms to cover his face, the liquid hit him, and his consciousness began to fade.

Before the darkness could entirely consume his mind, Alfis could feel it being ripped free by what his instincts told him was a magical force. Though it felt like just a moment, he still awoke to the private room having become a blazing inferno and his mind unfocused and unusually hazy. Before he could worry about how he was affected, he needed to get to safety, and luckily Yukan calling out was giving away a good direction towards a window. Managing to stumble up as his body tried to recall how to stand and walk, the tigerkin hurried to join the kitsune and tanuki.

Once managing to rejoin the two at what seemed to be at least a safer distance, Alfis' muddled brain managed to connect that something was wrong. Although he couldn't give you an exact number due to his current state, he recognized that there were fewer people than there were supposed to be. "What about...The others...?" he managed to forcefully construct the question between the labored breaths, his mind struggling with even that as he turned back in their direction.

Actions:
  • Defend (Lunar Dragon's Breath Eff 10): Total Def Eff; 2 (Vit E). Result - Fail
  • (Potentially) Move: Stand up from being knocked prone
  • Move: Toward Yukan's Group.

Crymaria still didn't exactly like the employer in her mind at least it seemed like the man had really only hired her because of the Boris. The whole event thus far has been him favoring Boris which in her mind wasn't a bad thing. Though they were both part of a team one wouldn't be able to do much without the other. Having been brought to the house the place seemed rather relaxing, though from her experience thus far she knew that this place wasn't exactly meant for humans.

As the time went by and drinks were offered Crymaria knew better than to down drink after drink. She didn't want to be too buried into her cup. Taking small sips now and then even after awhile though she started to feel the warmth of alcohol as her body warmed up. When the geisha had entered nothing really seemed off, though she figured the tea was going to help push the effects fo the alcohol away. Though that was soon not going to be the case as she started to vomit a hot liquid from her mouth.

Instinctively covering her face in the hopes that the liquid would only hit her arms, "Boris, get us out of here!" Crymaria shouted to her companion as she started to feel like she was drifting off. When she started to hear the voice from earlier though she didn't really know the name of the person. She figured that would be her wait out. Though as the illusion started to set in the fire seemed to be spreading rather fast.

1. Attempt to block her face from the liquid

Like a spurting geyser or a demonically possessed exorcism the silver fluid splattered everywhere, coating the entire inside of the pavilion in slick mercury that felt like boiling slime or molten marshmallow. While it burnt exposed flesh and slid into the most intimate of places nothing inorganic was affected. Metal chopsticks and porcelain tea cups clattered to the ground at the force of the spray but nothing melted except for flesh and food. Like digested food, anything edible turned into slurry and bodies clattered to the ground.

One body didn’t slump to the ground. Mitsunari’s beautiful fur was coated in thick silver syrup. It burned and clung in equal measures, but that didn’t deter him. With a deft wave of his hand and a simple incantation green light flew out of his hands and washed over the fallen members of the logistics unit and Yukan. The green light overwhelmed the silver.

Yukan and Indicus were the first to rouse. Neither seemed aware of the green aura that bleed into the visible spectrum and made obvious that some arcane effect was upon them. They each had a different reaction.

Trying to get himself up and head away from the fire instinctually. As he called out to everyone not sure about their status so frazzled, "Get..away from her..on me towards the window!" he called out.

While Alfis and Crymaria were still groggy and coming to, Yukan lead the way as always and approached the window. The flames appeared to devour the walls and ceiling, coming ever closer but never quite reaching the trio. It forked around the table and inched closer along the floor. The flames themselves were pale and glittered more than normal flames but subtle details like that were elusive to those whose intellect had been weakened.

After being clear of the girl Indicus glanced around the room the odd colored fire blocking all exits but a window he spotted earlier. Indicus then looked at the Tanuki Geisha curled up on the ground, she looked in pain and a thought occurred to him, 'She's the source of the magic fire?' Indicus was powerful and his elbow crushed Sawazuki, The Silver Vomiting Tanuki Geisha. Her face crumbled in, blood flowing from where his scales had ripped off her fur. The force of the blow sent her careening along the floor and towards the flames that never quite seemed to touch her body but they came so very, very close! The heat and radiance of the flames was mesmerizing and comforting in a way that tugged at something now dormant in his mind. Instead, Indicus was left as if something was on the tip of tongue but unable to be given voice.

Although he couldn't give you an exact number due to his current state, he recognized that there were fewer people than there were supposed to be. "What about...The others...?" he managed to forcefully construct the question between the labored breaths, his mind struggling with even that as he turned back in their direction.

But what about the others? It was hard to say. Masanori and the other two geisha, both the musical Tanuki and aluring Kitsune were sprawled out. Their skin was bubbling from the heat of the silvery, molten syrup. The silver remained, covering them and making it look like there were three artistic installations on the floor instead of three bodies. Indeed, through the mental fog and mire it was hard to be sure that or who or what was that the others? Who were they again?

The window beaconed. It was not large but large enough to squeeze through with a bit of effort. It wouldn’t take much to knock the panels open and off their tracks.

Through the flames covering the door and out beyond in the courtyard a massive bear stirred. It had naturally given attention to his friend, but this comrade had indeed enjoyed quite a lot of sweet, sweet honey as the night wore on and mixed with saki had dulled the bears normal instincts and sense of danger. Indeed, it wasn’t uncommon for bipeds to make fools of themselves and to partake in unbearable activities. If some crazy two-legged animals wanted to dance around and roll in silver muck, maybe that was normal?

What Boris did understand as abnormal was Crymaria shouting and requesting for an evac wasn’t something he could ignore. Boris let out a massive roar, rearing up for a moment onto his hind legs. His massive head swiveled around, looking towards the odd silver covered room where Crymaria was. With another growl, he came down onto his forepaws and began to sprint towards the pavilion. This roused the pair of samurai who were patrolling further away. Seeing a thousand pound bear rushing towards Masanori‘s pavilion. Before they could stop Boris, Boris barreled through the courtyard and up the steps and across the threshold. The Samurai were close on his heels.

With a flick of his fingers and the incantation falling from his tongue, fire mana collapsed and formed a void, a depression in the area that called out to the flames. They didn’t flicker nor respond to the call. The magic itself continued to call out but nothing happened. No that wasn’t quite right. The door to the pavilion partially open, obscured by a curtain of flickering flames burst off its hinges and careened through the room. Boris didn’t stop. His head lowered, he roared as he tackled the table out of his way and continued on towards the window. The table slammed against Masanori, pinning his body against the table.

Seeing one of their masters so casually, the Samurai who had been sprinting behind Boris out of curiosity and suspicion whipped their katanas out and roared in unison, “Assassins! To arms!”

Further away two more samurai emerged from a couple of hundred feet away near the entrance of the Peony. They ran at a full sprint, their bodies flickering as some sort of ability carried them forward like lightning. Their blades left a contrail in their wakes.

None of that mattered to Boris. He continued like a catapult through the room of the pavilion and towards the window. His head lowered at the last minute, bursting through the Bamboo like paper.

The screen, covers, and five feet of the wall fell outside. Cold, fresh air rushed into the room. Freedom beckoned on the other side. A wall of sparse trees and gardens were on the other side. Through the tree trunks one could see a wall that marked the perimeter of the establishment some forty feed away. Beyond the wall was more wilderness and perhaps hills and elevations and was that some sort of watch tower in the distance? Would be be almost impossible to make out with just the pale moonlight save for the fact that silver smoke rose from that direction that seemed to shimmer on its own. Still at over a mile away it was but a spec and a possibility on the horizon for all save the most keen sighted.

Boris turned, rearing up against the glaring at all those behind. His massive arms went wide and his eyes glared at the samurai behind Crymaria, dangerously close to her with blades drawn.

Effectiveness 13, Illusion Grade C — “Burning House”

That’s right, very little damage is done by the breath attack. The actual payload seems to be the illusion with the damage and weaken int as ways to confuse and distract people to let the illusion settle in.

At this point you should also realize that something else is a foot and perhaps

has more going on then expect. She certainly doesn’t seem to be in good shape. Each round she continues to vomit against her will. And is now on the ground curled in a ball as her own silver burning vomit breath drives her insane.

Seikatsu Mitsunari

This spell was a creation of his own mind and had been tried and tested in the past, it should have worked. Unless. "An illusion." As his fire spell came to and end and the door was thrown off of its hinges by a bear, Mitsunari took a moment to assess the situation with greater care. The silver was real, that he had felt himself which would suggest that it could also be the source of the illusion. His gaze swept across the chaotic scene, spotting Masanori pinned down by the table and then the tanuki girl who had been the one to vomit on everyone. She seemed to be suffering and Mitsunari could only guess she was hexed or cursed by someone to do these things. She needed to be kept alive to give them the answers they would no doubt need to capture the mastermind behind this attempt on their lives, but his healing spell couldn't be cast again.

"Damn it." This little detour was starting to be more work than it was worth for the fox. "The flames are not real! It is an illusion! You only need to avoid the silver!" He could do no more with his magic to help the others and instead hoped a simple explanation would suffice in helping to clear their minds. Nonetheless he had to save himself and Yukan. A cloud appeared beneath the fox's feet and he floated above the ground and took but a few seconds to weigh his options. If he left Masanori to die then Yukan may be blamed for the assassination of the other beast and that would be a great hinderance to his plans. And while saving Masanori and not Yukan still presented him a way into Kuridan's politics, he wasn't keen on the rich tanuki after all he'd heard from Yukan. "Such pests. I'd let you all die if I could." He said softly in the lnaguage of monsters so that no one present would understand him.

Mitsunari's nimbus floated over to where Masanori was pinned down by the table and he pulled back the sleeves of his kimono. He reached down and grabbed Masanori by his collar and proceeded to pull the tanuki [Superstrength F] out from under the table's weight. He held on firmly to the man and carried him towards the shattered wall. The kitsune breathed heavily as he exited the Peony with Masanori in tow, only to throw the noble to the ground and plop down on his nimbus. He would go back for Yukan if the Tanuki still required saving.

Indicus looked at the flames for awhile, as if they could answer his questions and he only had to reach out but no matter it kept slipping away like a playful wind spirit continually teasing him. After failing to grasp what his instincts were trying to tell him he grunted in frustration. Indicus looked at the Tanuki now clearly knocked out with some blood staining her chin and kimono he found it odd how the flames never touched the woman but his head hurt both from his earlier frustration and the swamp his mind felt like it was moving through. He could only hope he was not attacked because he didn't know if his reaction speed was up to par at the moment. The good news was that the food induced lethargy was slowly ebbing away.
Indicus walked up to the Tanuki Geisha as he avoided the flames and gently picked her up picked her up.

Indicus felt cold air rush into the room then turned towards the only exit not covered by flames and noticed the bear Boris had crashed through the walls probably to help Crymaria. The kitsune man's shout about the silver and the flames half got through his head translating to avoid silver in his addled mind something he decided to keep in mind as he ran out of the room jumping over the strange liquid and the surrounding fire as he did with the goal of taking himself and the Tanuki Geisha out of the burning building.

Alfis
One of the members Alfis had been looking for quickly rejoined the group, though in a different way than expected. Barely managing to get out of the course of the bear barreling towards them, an exit was soon made in its size. Although his thoughts were muddled, the creature was familiar enough and...probably not a danger to him? The fox to his side had also begun using magic, and though his intentions were not immediately obvious, the flame that whipped towards him and his following shout explained the man's purpose.

Illusion? What had that meant again? Right, that the flames weren't real. Though the words were said, the fire was still there, and Alfis felt as if he could feel their heat still. His muddled mind and instincts were at war with one another, stopping him from knowing how to react correctly. Before attempting anything else, he at least needed to try and clear his thoughts. Clenching his fist and digging his claws into his own hand, the tigerkin used the pain to assist while he attempted to [Focus F] and break out of the illusion.

Regardless of if he succeeded, Alfis could see that the whole commotion had caused a misunderstanding, and they were being treated as enemies. Both the bear and giant lizard were being approached with deadly intentions and something in the back of his head screamed that it'd be bad if a real battle began. Deciding that the giant lizard was in the most danger as he was focused on grabbing something, Alfis chose to try and stall for the scaly man. Running just outside where he could make contact with the earth, he kneeled and began channeling mana into the soil. "Earth's Fang." The tigerkin uttered quietly, a lance of earth piercing through the floorboards between the fleeing dragonborn and samurai.

"Don't fight!" Alfis cried out desperately to try and have the others de-escalate. He hoped that it would get through to both his companions and the samurai, but it was hard to tell. He wasn't coherent enough to string together more than the two words, and he wasn't sure how compliant the bear would be if its mind was equally affected by the attack.

Actions:

1. Attempt to break out of illusion.
2. Move just outside the room into the garden
3. Use Earth's Fang to summon an earthen lance between Indicus and the samurai intending to attack him

Yukan

Screen_Shot_2022-09-06_at_4.08.19_PM-1.png

Yukan now near the window looked out towards the others. It seemed that all had their own idea of what they needed to do in that moment and were not able to heed his words to move away from the fire or silver and get on him. Even then he didn't really have his wits fully about him in that moment reacting on instinct. Things were getting very out of hand and it was obvious and it didn't seem that everyone was too keen on doing what he said.

That dragon took the main offending Geisha and was now heading out of the building, Yukan couldn't do much now if that fellow was grouped in with the hostiles. Then again they didn't very well know any of the people who Masanori had recruited, what if one of them were in this attack?

When he saw the bear and guards barreling through, once they were at a confrontation he called out towards them "The Geisha are the main concern! One started this attack!" His mind did not let him explain much more than that to the guards as he was trying to convey who they needed to be looking for rather than what they were doing. Hopfully they'd listen between Alfis telling them not to fight and his exclamation. When the casting went off and damaged the building that was not a great sign. The disarray had completely shot any chance of people leaving orderly on him like he had planned. He needed to get out of there as more came and left at the same time as it looked like fighting was about to break out and all he had was his sharp claws to defend himself with should the occasion call for it. IT felt like he couldn't focus appropriately on a single task with so much happening at the same time with no adherence. Thankfully Mitsunari saved Masanori and now Yukan was determined to follow and get out of there as he started quickly making his way towards the giant hole in the wall trying his best to avoid the silver, heading towards the outside.
He did what he could in that moment without incriminating himself with his limited thinking capacity in that moment, he just needed to get away from the danger. Trying to make his way towards Mitsunari and Masanori, hopefully his mind would clear that way.

Actions: Move as many actions as needed to avoid silver and head out of the building towards Mitsunari and Masanori after trying to explain to guards what happened while under effects.

Crymaria heard the roar of Boris as she looked up and then heard the pounding of something heavy coming her way. When the bear crashed through the wall letting fresh air in, some of her senses started to return to her, that was when she noticed the samurai were on the move now and they had called them assassins. "I think.......I think you have the wrong idea comrades," Crymaria stated as she took note of the blades that were drawn.

Rushing forward, she would attempt to dodge the Samurai and tap the bear on the shoulder as she tried to make it to the courtyard to create some distance between her and the samurai. The whole situation at this point was starting to get a bit dicey, that whole thing in the house had put her on alert. What was going to happen next was up to the host she figured.

Mitsunari the Unknown Sage floated in on a cloud of white back into the room. As the rest of the group struggled to get out of the silver washed room, now dripping droplets of mercury like silverness, Mitsunari floated above it all like a god descended from the heavens. His cloud floated over towards Masanori. Casually, he reached down And grabbed Masanori by the collar and proceeded to pull the tanuki out from under the table's weight. Bits of wood and debris fell away, and Masanori was easily lifted up. Mitsunari held on firmly to Masanori and carried the body towards the shattered wall. The kitsune breathed heavily as he exited the Peony.

Everyone else rushed out.

Pieces of the confusion and fog were receding like fog after it met day break. The warmth of reason, words uttered and half-remember snapshots of his childhood kept flickering through his mind. In some ways the fugue state he found himself was stirring something, taking him deeper within, past and away from the usual places his mind dwelt.

So great was Alfis’ mind that his focus cut through a portion of the fog, which was already beginning to lift. He found more of his faculties arousing. The flames looked off somehow. The heat was brittle and fickle In a way fire should not be. There was more space now. Clarity came back with each breath.

Regardless of if he succeeded, Alfis could see that the whole commotion had caused a misunderstanding, and they were being treated as enemies. Both the bear and giant lizard were being approached with deadly intentions and something in the back of his head screamed that it'd be bad if a real battle began.

His mind did not let him explain much more than that to the guards as he was trying to convey who they needed to be looking for rather than what they were doing. Hopfully they'd listen between Alfis telling them not to fight and his exclamation.

The pair of samurai, with another two thirty feet behind them, slowed. They didn’t stop, their katana’s held out and posed to strike. For a moment, they seemed poised to believe Yukan, but then there was Masanori floating thirty feet in the air upon a cloud held by a kitsune. And a giant bear that had turned and loomed large, claws out.

"I think.......I think you have the wrong idea comrades," Crymaria stated as she took note of the blades that were drawn.

Rushing forward, she dodged through and around the situation, to tap the bear on the shoulder as she tried to make it to the courtyard to create some distance between her and the samurai. The whole situation at this point was starting to get a bit dicey, that whole thing in the house had put her on alert. What was going to happen next was up to the host she figured.

Boris calmed at the touch, settled down back onto all fours. He growled low, showing his teeth. His eyes never left the men with katana’s pointed at his beloved Crymaria, yet her touch held him rooted to the spot.

Jagged fangs of earth ripped through the pavilion floor. The pair of samurai leapt backwards, giving Indicus time to realize what was going on. Indicus moved towards the group, running away from the earth fangs. The pair of samurai were met by the pair behind, turning them into a quad, the fifth the most powerful of the samurai streaked over and joined together, they became a formal unit of troops. Swords drawn, the samurai faced the group.

When the casting went off and damaged the building that was not a great sign. The disarray had completely shot any chance of people leaving orderly on him like he had planned. He did what he could in that moment without incriminating himself with his limited thinking capacity in that moment, he just needed to get away from the danger. Trying to make his way towards Mitsunari and Masanori, hopefully his mind would clear that way.

The lead samurai, and old and wizened Tanuki scowled at the group outside and frowned at the silver substance that clung to everything like a molten lake. All the organic material was in the process of melting away including the bodies of the kitsune and tanuki geisha which had been left behind. “If it is as you say, return Masanori and surrender.”

“Ha!” Mitsunari laughed, ascending into the heavens with Masanori still clutched in a hand. They rose another thirty feet, now a full sixty feet away. “Like I’d ever surrender to the likes of you. This was all a conspiracy to get me. I’m out of here.” He continued to float away, “You stay there or I’ll drop Masanori.”

The lead samurai grunted, looking pissed and was about to give up when a cloud of arrows sailed from the courtyard towards Mitsunari. They struck him and his cloud, making bloody holes. Released the Samurai rushed forward and cleared the silver room in blurred leap of speed. They ignored the two melting geisha. Landing one after the other, katanas out they rushed towards the group.

In that moment the geisha that Indicus held in a headlock opened her eyes. Blood streamed from her partially caved in skull and she opened her mouth hurling out a cone of silver, mercury that caught all five samurai completely unaware. Her eyes looked weird and her body was jerking but not resisting Indicus’ hold on her. With this second stream, her body collapsed and her breathing stilled. Her eyes rolled up into her head and her body shivered as if the life was going out of her.

For the group thought the second cone of silver vomit, liquid, lava mercury that is was broke the fog and their intellect returned themselves while the unit of samurai seemed to reel in the aftermath. They didn’t pass out but they looked in poor shape, weak and anemic. They blinked lazy eyes as their fur and skin melted. Flesh boiled in the heat of the breath, and the group outside got to witness what could have happened without Mitsunari’s magical intervention.

Beyond in the courtyard is Whiteclaw, Ixtal, the pair of archers and shadow assassins with bows drawn. Behind them, with a spiritual rod woven with feathers and relics is Gyoubu; however, she seemed shocked by the scene and has not yet said anything.

It’s quite odd by you catch sight in a few of the branches a weird little creature that looks like it’s half-mouse and half-lizard with large eyes. The trio spread amongst a few of the branches stand on their tiny hind legs, tails wrapped around the branches they are standing upon. They are tiny, but with wide expressive mouths and somehow looking at them makes you feel good. However, they are really hard to focus on. Only with the ability to Focus/Arcana or something similar do you spare them much more than a glance at them.

Indicus felt like he was in a sort of trance, as he used the earth mages distraction and images of his childhood of both of his lives flashed through his mind as he ran with the hope to get a chance to save the geisha from her pain. It was not to be as she spit out more of that odd silvery liquid. It flew through the air and hit the samurai that were confronting the group thinking them responsible for the events that had played out. When the liquid hit the affected samurai looked weak and their eyes unfocused as they didn't even notice as their bodies melted away.
The scene and knowledge of what could have happened to him had the kitsune not healed sent shivers up his spine clearing any of the remaining fog that addled his mind, Indicus reminded himself to thank the Kitsune mage when he next saw the man. Indicus looked at the now dead geisha in his arms with a sad frown before gently laying the corpse on the ground.
Indicus looked around seeing how many others made it away from the attack.

Seeing that the was group mostly accounted for save the powerful kitsune sage that healed him earlier Indicus spoke. "How is everyone?"

Before Indicus could wait for an answer his Danger Sense sent shivers up his spine sending the Dragonborn on edge eyes darting around mainly towards the forest nearby. "Keep your guard up something is watching us! Anyone see anything?"

Crymaria watched as the samurai kept their hands on their blades, as she looked up she saw the kitsune in the air and then he flew up even higher. She wasn't sure what she could do at this point so she focused on what was in front of her. Since she was sure the whole thing was about to be blamed on them by the samurai.

As the others mentioned something was out there, she started to look around to see what was going on. "Get ready comrade Boris, things might be a bit more interesting," she warned the bear as she waited for the next move to happen.

Yukan

Screen_Shot_2022-09-06_at_4.08.19_PM-1.png
For now Yukan had done what he could in this moment in this mental state that was so disorientated, as he was outside the building trying to recover after that intense experience of passing out waking up to the ensuing fighting. He looked up, not pleased by what was transpiring before him, as far as he knew this was an illusion as what was said, but it didn't make the sight any more disturbing, it was hard to know what to believe in that moment.

He tensed up when he heard Indicus mention the fact that they were being watched, a bit to disorientated to know what was going on. It seemed that perhaps working with Mitsunari was not the best choice, but more importantly what was to happen now? He stood by watching, now his natural claws on standby at the ready to be used to defend himself if need be, who was alive, injured or dead truly? This escalation hadn't done any favors, he stayed his distance, and didn't make any sudden movements or exclamations wanting to make it as clear as possible that he wasn't a threat, until order was returned to this discombobulated environment.

Another volley of arrows flew into the arrows flew into the air, peppering Mitsunari's cloud. "Fine!" Mitsunari hurled Masanori Tashigoto as a distraction. The tanuki's body sailed through the night sky. The arrows stopped, and Mitsunari burst up further up into the air until it was hard make out except for the silver and white from the moonlight reflected on his cloud and even that shrank in the distance.

Meanwhile on the ground, the samurai's bodies continued to melt under the swirling, coating mercy like silver. Now that the group had command of their mental faculties, it was easier to tell that the vomit was definitely not vomit. The air was filled with the smell of melting hair and bubbling flesh. It was almost like their bodies were being stewed. They moaned and writhed on the ground, unable to see. The silver clung to them like tar.

Further behind them the bodies of the geisha were nearly slurry by this point, and the geisha in Indicus's arms lay unmoving and slumped to the ground.

As Masanori's body fluttered through the sky, suddenly a streak of white shot through the air. Whiteclaw's unmistakable body veered, snatching Masanori and snapped open his wings. "Oh, there you are." Whiteclaw landed near Yukon and dropped Masanori on the ground. He gave the smallest inclination of his head to Yukon as a token of respect, before calling out. "Form up hatchlings. Maiden Gyoubu over here, priority is the five bodies."

Ov402Z8dp7wWflJnn9QujBGwsA76XvJR632mPLMrcXNbBodaBJ5WnOV3RlII2Cmu8XtdKRrkFpbjOcR27yqmDCGsw2eAOznnqmFt6TpftuhXbJCUCIdnc7snp27c1dXhZ0rVF27V6zBDHi23Cai48SuHRETm27QkAUxwLci5WAONxHLa2mprbiOdK0jvcw
Appeared through the torn screen in the room everyone had vacated. Her hands spread wide, and a soft haiku, "Flowers stand so tall." The ground beneath the rolling, silver cocooned samurais sprouted small flowers. "Reaching to catch the sun's rays." Warm spread across the area and faint, golden light filled the area. "Their blooms praise the fresh spring." The flowers bloomed, spreading yellow pollen into the air. The motes of yellow landed all about and erased the silver with their yellowness. The smell of tulips in sprint filled the area. Without missing a beat, she turned, whispering the same and the room also filled like springtime blooms. While the geisha inside were in a miserable state, flowers filled the area and hugged the bodies, nourishing them. A multicast like that was quite rare amongst Shrine Maidens.

Walking through the field of flowers still caressing and giving springtime life to the people, Gyoubu didn't even give them another glance. In fact she nudged one of the recovering Samurai's aside with her spiritual rod woven with feathers and relics, so she could make her way to Yukon. She had a radiant smile on, enhanced by the springtime glow.

The other two owlkin and two tengu landed on either side of Whiteclaw. Ixtal surveyed the forest, furrowing the plumage on its face. Shaking his feathers into a bristle, he grunted. "Something is out there."

Whiteclaw frowned. "Something delicious." He looked for a moment, "But a distraction."

Indicus looked at the now dead geisha in his arms with a sad frown before gently laying the corpse on the ground.
Indicus looked around seeing how many others made it away from the attack.

The geisha shivered to life. Sawazuki blinking and shivering.

"Oh yeah, I got her too," Gyoubu said to Indicus, looking over for a moment, "You can thank me with a donation to the Shrine."

Seeing that the was group mostly accounted for save the powerful kitsune sage that healed him earlier Indicus spoke. "How is everyone?"

"Doing great," Gyoubu said, smiling, "Now that I'm here."

Before Indicus could wait for an answer his Danger Sense sent shivers up his spine sending the Dragonborn on edge eyes darting around mainly towards the forest nearby. "Keep your guard up something is watching us! Anyone see anything?"

She frowned, looking back towards Whiteclaw and Ixtal. "Yeah, what's up with that?"

The samurais behind her slowly came to their feet, flicking off the remaining portions of silver and pollen. The coughed out wads of silver but seemed to be rapidly on the mend with each second that passed.

As the others mentioned something was out there, she started to look around to see what was going on. "Get ready comrade Boris, things might be a bit more interesting," she warned the bear as she waited for the next move to happen.

Something interesting had apparently caught quite a few people's attention. Borris' head reared up, snorting and turning his massive head. "Tasty," he said in the language of animals and bears. "What is it? Can I eat it?" He snorted, his nose wrinkling before swinging his massive head back towards the samurai.

He tensed up when he heard Indicus mention the fact that they were being watched, a bit to disorientated to know what was going on. It seemed that perhaps working with Mitsunari was not the best choice, but more importantly what was to happen now?

With the presence of Gyoubu and Whiteclaw, the samurai paused in their assault. Now that Masanori was rousing, they seemed torn between continuing the assault and defending their charge.

Meanwhile, more people poured out of the other private rooms, gawking at the scene beyond. Masanori staggered to his feet, looking around. "Oh," he licked his lips, "This is going too..." He trailed off, biting his lips until they bleed, but the healing pollen took care of the minor wound within a couple of seconds.

Indicus could only look between the unknown shrine maiden and the now alive geisha that he tried to save with his mouth wide open much like a fish for a few moments before forcibly composing himself he did not bother to use appraisal this woman was very powerful her resurrection of the dead made that very apparent. Indicus watched as the now living samurai looked around and groaned as they came back to the world of the living. Looking back at the shrine maiden Indicus bluntly asked, "What's your name?"

As Yukan started to regain his composure and facilities now that the attacks were ceasing and Masanori had been released finally he paused, seeing Whiteclaw appear before him just like that saving Masanori, that Yukan had hardly had time to react too. He bowed back after with Republic of Kuridan Etiquette F.

He spoke at an elevated volume to anyone who would listen with the new arrivals. "Before I knew what was happening everything was in shambles, I'm uncertain to the extent this treacherous activity is ongoing, But the bear is not an enemy he was just protecting his companion, and the others who Masanori recruited, they are not a threat as far as I can tell. it started with the Geisha's and now Mitsunari has shown his colors I'd be wary of letting any of the Geisha go far beyond the facility." Yukan not having his weapons at the ready, steady, had his claws at his disposal to defend himself if need be, so he stood in an active stance, wanting to get this vital information out in a clear and concise way.

He then let out a sound of relief slightly upon seeing that Masanori was still alive. He then looked over towards Shrine Maiden Gyoubu, seeing her get to work just like that, it truly was a sight to behold as she jumped into action, healing people so well with her abilities, her reputation was well earned he could already tell. On one hand while Mitusnari had healed them after the attack had gone off, who knew who had infiltrated or who else was responsible for this attack? Amany questions went through Yukan's head in that moment. Were there any others as part of this conspiracy? Had they wanted to kill Masanori or someone else there or maybe they even had multiple targets?

Truthfully Yukan was relieved that Gyoubu had shown up. He was awed by the multicast but didn't want to get too distracted by it because something was off, indeed what else was near them?

"Shrine Maiden Gyoubu, I sincerely thank you for your assistance." He said with an edge of regret in his voice which was also quite serious. He would need to speak to her later on matters now was not the time to say what he wanted to say when they were all still under potential attack.

Upon seeing Masanori's reaction, whatever had transpired here was going to be particularly bad for Masanori's family as far an incident going so public with all these gawkers.

Yukan then continued speaking to anyone who would listen to him close by , "The reptile is right there's eyes on us and I'm not entirely sure what they are I just can't seem to focus on them, they could be dangerous." He spoke out sternly and seriously.

"We should be vigilant and ready until we know if these are friend or foe, it's difficult to get a number on them like this."

Crymaria watched the scene unfold in front of her the kitsune she hadn't seen before until this point was floating up with the person who had hired them. Then suddenly just dropped him she watched as the creature fell and the kitsune made his escape. As their paycheck was caught she let out a sigh of relief before turning her attention back to the samurai as she wasn't sure if they were going to make a move or not. Though she hoped they would focus on whatever what out there rather than them.

As Crymaria looked over her shoulder she saw as Boris raised his head for a moment, though she didn't really know what that meant. But with the new arrivals now she didn't have a whole lot of time to focus on that. As Yukan spoke trying to calm the situation down for the time being which she was thankful for. "Right, we should focus to make sure the rest of the compound is safe comrades," Crymaria stated as she waited to see what was about to happen next.

Indicus watched as the now living samurai looked around and groaned as they came back to the world of the living. Looking back at the shrine maiden Indicus bluntly asked, "What's your name?"
She opened her mouth to speak, but Yukon spoke faster.
"Shrine Maiden Gyoubu, I sincerely thank you for your assistance." He said with an edge of regret in his voice which was also quite serious. He would need to speak to her later on matters now was not the time to say what he wanted to say when they were all still under potential attack.

"You could say that you are indebted to me." She looked around with a faint smile on her face. "The Masanori clan certaintly is." She chuckled darkly, looking at Masanori and the samurai assembled. "Far more than the Pale Moon saki I came to retrieve for Uncle Kiryoku." She raised her eye brows several times.

"I hate you Gobu!" Masanori Tashigoto hissed.

"Aww, poor Goto always one step behind." Shrine Maiden Gyoubu said, frowning and mock shedding a tear.

"We should be vigilant and ready until we know if these are friend or foe, it's difficult to get a number on them like this."

Whiteclaw and the other avians were entirely fixated on the small forest behind the pavilions. "Could it be?"

The tengu Shadow Assassins were practically salivating. Which was something since as a rule avian's didn't salivate over food.

As Yukan spoke trying to calm the situation down for the time being which she was thankful for. "Right, we should focus to make sure the rest of the compound is safe comrades," Crymaria stated as she waited to see what was about to happen next.

Both Borris and the Avians were entirely fixated on the micro movements within the forest.

"Gerbie!" Whiteclaw suddenly shouted in glee.

Now like a burst damn the owlkin and tengu changed thier targets, firing into the forest. The first Gerbie to fall to the ground looked heart breaking in it's innocence and purity.

This half-mouse, half-lizard creature had large eyes and even in death radiated an air of goodwill. It emitted a sweet smell that reminded all of home. It smiled sweetly up at everyone as it died.

Blood leaked from her the chest wound. Her heart burst. Her jewel-like eyes remained open staring lifelessly at Ixtal, the tengu assassin.

Meanwhile Borris pivoted and dove on top of Ixtal. He was all teeth and claw, and Ixtal was rapidly losing both feathers and blood.

Ooc:
Mammals and reptilians have a desire to protect and generally feel goodwill towards a gerbie while within 100 feet of them unless you actively resist vs Effectiveness 7.... Assuming you want to get rid of the feeling or even realize it is coming from them or why. Assume effectiveness 6 to realize or know if you have appropriate skills or any other relevant reason.

When Indicus first saw the Girbie the thing caused shivers to race up his spine that was until it came closer and he felt the unsettling little thing was cute and to be protected. Every time he looked at the thing he felt his danger sense go off but at the same time the thing was ugly cute. This back and forth happened in his head for seconds until one of the tengue killed it and he was filled with a need to attack the ugly cute things killer this impulse he couldn't deny so he ran to attack the offender. In his zealotry he did not notice that he stepped on the girbie as it crunched under one-hundred eighty pounds of his weight then came his second realization he could not do much helping with Boris already mauling the bird man so he stood there for a second thinking and figured the bear was enough to take care of the offender that killed the ugly cute girbie.

He didn't have much to say to Gyoubu in response, thankfully he didn't consider her someone he was concerned about even if he may owe her as she said. She was an ally at least she had seemed to be, he certainly hoped that was the case as he had tried to make it clear to her he wasn't trying to cut her off even if she didn't come along on the hunt.. He'd have to talk to her later if she wanted too. Regardless these developments were quick.

Yukan also failed the check, naturally not really having a way to resist it and while he felt good will towards the gerbie he didn't exactly feel compelled ot immediately strike down the one who attacked it, but he certainly did not feel good that one was just put down like that just because they happened to be here at the wrong time. Yukan made his way over quickly towards the Gerbies, facing back before those who may want to attack them at the ready to intervene if need be, deciding that Crymaria needed to tell Boris to stop rather then him try to intervene with the bear, tapping into leadership F as he called out "Crymaria, get him off! All of you think! We're on the same the side! these are but a mere distraction, we're in the midst of a terrorist attack and we have yet to secure the area or find the perpetrator yet we are fighting with one another, and this is no time for hunting! How can we distinguish ourselves from our ancestors if we give into our base desires at a moment's notice at a critical junction?!" He called out indignantly.

Crymaria watched the scene unfold in front of her The creatures running around only to be show up dying. Looking around she tried to see if she could figure out what was going on and where these enemies could be at. Though while she was focused on that Borris dove on one of the tengu after the death of the small strange creature.

"Comrade Borris enough off!" Crymaria commanded trying to get the bear to stop. Even she wasn't entirely sure what came over the bear as she had never seen it dive something like that before. Though she figured there was probably other things to worry about especially with them all being on alert.
