Graded [Selve Village] - Cold Case: A Missing Person!

Seikatsu Mitsunari

Luego de vivir tantas experiencias juntos, ¿Por qué no descansar? Viv… #romance # Romance # amreading # books # wattpad

As Kain took the lead to perform his ritual or what have you, Mistunari turned his attention to their partners. Both strange and unique in their own ways and surely they both brought their own set of skills to the party. If he had to guess he would say they were both frontline fighters which meant he might not have to do much when it came to combat. That worked perfectly for him because he didn't want to display his capabilities to these people.

While he was deep in thought, it was the glowing light that Kain had conjured that drew his attention back to reality. It seemed the young human was capable of performing magic and something that Mitsunari had never seen before. He had been hesitant to believe that Kain could communicate with the forest, but to see nature come alive the way that it did quickly changed his mind. Feeling the wind dance through his hair and tails, and hearing the animals responds was enough to convince him.

"Let's not fall behind." Mitsunari whispered to Oni before he started forward.

The Forest had sent them down a long, winding path that stretched on for quite some time and it seemed that they would walk in blinding darkness forever, but an ember of light in the distance struggled to break through the darkness. There was a low, rhythmic hum that resounded off of the trees and the scent of warm, fresh blood was carried on the wind. There were no sounds from the wildlife in the area and the village was so far behind the party that they could not hope to signal their location.

On the ground were footprints of large boots in the mud, worn tracks of those who came before. At least ten pairs of feet trampled this ground before our heroes came along and there was no telling how many more were up ahead. Someone with a keen eyes would also notice that many of the bushes were hosts to tattered pieces of fabric with patterns similar to the garments worn in the village.

"There are several scents up ahead, I can't tell how many though." Mitsunari announced as he moved a bit more cautiously now. His hand landed on Kain's shoulder, a subconscious response to the potential danger in the area. "Time to be more careful, Little One.' He urged before his eyes went to Hildegard and Oni.

"Should we proceed with stealth or use the element of surprise to rush our enemies?" As they got closer the group would see the source of light was a massive bonfire and although no victims could be seen, the smell of blood was stronger now. Around the fire stood ten men and women all dressed in dark red robes. Their chanting was impossible to drown out and the horned emblem on their garbs impossible to forget.

Following the wind felt almost ethereal to Kain, so much so that he forgot what he was doing and who he was traveling with (he didn't notice Mitsunari's touch and warning). Though, as the group grew nearer to their destination, his trance like state grew thinner and more strained, and then, when a ominous, scarlet glow could be seen, the connection suddenly snapped with the presence vanishing, forcing Kain to stumble and to clutch his wildly beating heart. All around him, fear pervaded the atmosphere, as if the forest was cowering from an unnatural and sinister presence. Kain, never before feeling the forest in this state, became scared, enough so that he wanted to run away. However, he also wanted to stay, to fight back against whatever was terrorizing the forest. Given that he'd been living in the forest these past couple of years, the answer was obvious to Kain. While staring quietly at the distant bonfire, Kain slowly removed his garland, tossing it aside before taking out his sling and knife from his backpack. Then, after grabbing a few stones from the ground, he placed his backpack on the ground before speaking.

"The forest is scared right now," Kain whispered in a monotonous tone, "And something really, really bad is happening. I don't think I can do much, but I can help with my sling from the back." With that, Kain awaited on what the group decided on doing.

While her nose was no where near as good as that of a fox man's, even she could pick up on the scent of blood in the air. The light and joy of Kain's magic had been replaced by grim darkness and a low hum. While she wasn't exactly sure what the humming was she knew from the way the hairs on the back of her neck stood up that it was definitely a bad sign. Hildegard tightened the grip of her right hand around the handle of her sword while the fingers of her left hand flexed, a few sparks flicking between the finger tips. Mitsunari took the defensive roll grabbing onto Kain and motioning the boy to stay behind them.

As they walked Hildegard did not pick up on the bits of cloth hanging on the branches, instead her focus was on the growing light and humming. It was becoming more and more obvious that the humming was in fact chanting of some sort. By the time they reached the point where the group could see these fanatical cultist of sort. Would the group have time to stealth or should they take the risk and charge forward? Both were viable questions. This was going to be a real fight. Turning her head she saw Kain pull free his weapons and gave him a slight smile. The boy was willing to fight, thus they would have no choice.

Quietly Hildegard took a knee and gave a prayer in a hushed voice. "Before this battle I offer to you my lord the blood of the wicked. Let these evil doers before us be struck down by righteous steal." Raising herself back up she kept her eyes locked forward. "I vote we charge in and cut them down where they stand" she whispered.

The Oni

The Oni began to follow the group as he constantly smelt the air for any scent of blood, he would know when blood will be spilt, oni’s and demons like him couldn’t handle the sense, it smelt extremely well though he had to resist his urges, though he was extremely well at hiding the urges he got from blood. It always smelt like a sweet like flavor that taunted him, though other demons have had different aspects of the flavor of blood.

Getting back into topic, he continued to smell the air, until he had gotten a scent of blood, quickly the flavor of a sweet like nutrients came over him and he quickly jumped into a nearby tree branch to smell any aspect of more blood.

There’s blood around here, it’s close, be prepared to engage in combat if necessary, look around the surrounding are, I disagree with you ma’am stealth is the best approach, if they have hostages they will kill them.”

He said alerting his party members, he placed his left hand softly onto his sword as his fingers tapped onto the handle caressing the weapon in his cradle. He watched carefully as he saw the light get closer and closer, he then quickly got closer to the man as he prepared himself to excute into action, perhaps a stealth kill.

After listening to the opposing arguments of Hildegard and Oni, Mitsunari quickly settled on a compromise instead. With the possibility of additional hostages, Mistunari admitted that the situation could be trickier. As such, he suggested the group split into two pairs, Mitsunari with Hildegard and the Oni with Kain. Hildegard and Mitsunari would spring a surprise attack to attract the cultist’s attention. Meanwhile, Oni and Kain would stay low for a rescue, and once they secured the hostages, the Oni would come back to enter the fray while Kain led them to safety. Mitsunari then waited for the response of the others. If they agreed to the plan, they would move out. If not, they'd go with Hildegard's plan due to their limited time, as indicated by the strong scent of blood in the air. Hopefully, the missing girl was still alive...

Kain, upon hearing the plan, was a bit nervous about splitting up and leading the hostages to safety. What if the hostages didn’t listen to him? What if the cultists chased after them? What if he got hurt? The prospects were scary to Kain, but upon seeing Mitsunari’s apparent calmness over the situation, Kain felt a little better performing the role Mitsunari gave him.

“I-I don’t mind,” Kain stuttered, trying his best to hold back his fear. “We got to save the missy? Right?” Kain gave a nervous yet brave smile.

Hildegard was annoyed by the creature's insistence on stealth. The presence of blood in the air meant that something had already happened and taking the time to stealth meant further delaying any action they would take. If the cult went through all the trouble to gather up people they wouldn't just kill them if they got attacked. They already had surprise on them so wasting any more time on stealth would be useless. Still she wouldn't argue against what the group decided in a situation like this. It would only waste the already finite amount of time they had. At least the way they were grouped up made it so she did not have to work strike with the Oni, even though she was worried about Kain's safety with him. Though she would not voice it yet, she couldn't help but notice that the Oni's demonic appearance was in the same area as a creepy dark cult doing blood sacrifices. That was quite the coincidence.

Trying to crouch low and move quietly Hildegard would maneuver to follow Mitsunari's lead. While she was infact a frontline stealth was not her forte. She would wait for what ever signal and let the much more sneaky looking fox handle the majority of the stealth part. Once there stealth was broken she would jump on their foes and bring her righteous blade and lighting down on these scum.

With the group split off, Mitsunari quickly but silently guided HIldegard, quietly warning her of any debris that could snap underfoot. As the two got closer, they would notice in front of the bonfire a robed man holding an ominous chalice surrounded by crimson, eerie inscriptions on the ground. Additionally, across the large bonfire was a hooded woman standing in front of a bloody mound of beheaded wolves, also surrounded by the same inscriptions. Without warning, a muffled scream could be heard from beneath the pile of corpses. Immediately, Mitsunari made a realization and quickly prepared a wind bolt in his hand.

"3-2-1 NOW!" Mitsunari coordinated, standing up from the bushes while swiftly firing off the wind bolt towards the chalice man. Whoosh! And then Pow! The bolt went as it squarely hit the man in the face, the chalice falling onto the ground. Though Mitsunari and Hildegard couldn't immediately tell now, six held no visible weapons, two held swords, and two held crossbows. The man in front of the chalice was now incapacitated with the tipped chalice on the floor.

When the group split, the Oni and Kain began circling around the clearing. Not too long, Kain could view the entire clearing. He nearly gagged as the image burned into his mind. He'd never seen such a maleficent killing of wildlife, and it nearly broke him. A scream began to rise up from within him, but because he knew they couldn't get caught, he immediately clasped both hands over his mouth as tears began to bead from his eyes. That's when Kain felt the forest's despair grow, followed by the screaming.

Kain just snapped.

"It's going to happen soon." Kain muttered fearfully as he crouched down, shivering. "It's going to happen soon." He repeated. In that moment, Mitsunari's shout could be heard from across the camp, followed by his wind bolt hitting the chalice man. As soon as the chalice man fell, the forest's fear waned as it was replaced by a deep rage. In response, the spell over Kain broke immediately as his face contorted into pure fury. "I'm going to beat up those guys for hurting the poor wolves!" Without hesitation, Kain loaded his sling and quickly began spinning it. Once it gained speed, he let loose the stone. Though the stone passed harmlessly by one of the zealots and into the bonfire, Kain quickly loaded up another stone from his pocket, ready to sling again.

The Oni noticed that Hildegard specificity disliked him, though for no apparent reason, so he would try his best not to be offended by she for the moment. He’ll most likely have a talk with her after the infiltrate the building successfully, but for now him and Kain would have to do their part for the group.

He quickly ran around the surprising area to get a better scope before Kain almost revealed where they were, one quickly turned his head to shush the boy as he the observed noticing another Roman was coming to aid the man who was just attacked by the other two, he lifted himself higher on his toes as he gotten ready to strike, when started the pass the two, he quickly jumped off his toes and stroked down the man placing the blade into the man’s neck, killing him. He then ushered the boy to come over to his location.

Come now boy, we have people to rescue don’t we? Come along boy.”

Moving silently through the forest as the cultist did their nefarious chanting was difficult for Hildegard to say the least. Every ounce of her body roared at her to jump out and slay the heretics each one after the other. What ever was going on in this forest was vile on the surface, and evil to the core. The stench of blood grew thicker as the pair of Mitsunari and Hildegard came to a stop. With her hand still gripped sharply around her sword her eyes traced every movement in the clearing before them. Ten standard cloaked figures by the looks of them, two armed with blades, and two armed with crossbows. Two different looking ones stood by the fire, one with a chalice and eerie inscriptions the other by a pile of decapitated wolves. To think these foul creatures would revolt to something so savage. It churned her stomach.

A muffed cry from underneath the bodies got Mitsunari moving with a wind blast that knocked over the chalice holder. That was all Hildegard needed as she sprinted free from the bushes and brought down her sword straight onto the front of one of the cultist who turned around. Her blade struck clean through, the cultist who had no weapons on them, well at least none they could pull free from whatever hiding place it was fell quiet easy. There was just enough time for the body to crumple to the ground and blood to dmpen the earth for Hildegard to spin on her next opponent. She wasn't the fastest person around and she knew it, but they had surprise and she had her faith. Now with her sword raised she stabbed forward with a strike meant to pierce through another of these vile cult.

Before the zealot could even turn around, the damned fellow was already dead by Hildegard’s sword. By then, the cultists realized what had just occurred, prompting the woman near the bonfire to scream, “What have you done? Kill the heretics!” Immediately, the two crossbow men behind the women aimed for Hildegard and Mitsunari, but due to their haste, the two waste their shots, the bolts wizzing dangerously close past the two adventurers.

Unphased by the missiles, Hildegard quickly approached another of the unarmed cultists, behind him standing a cultist carrying a sword. Intimidated, the unarmed cultist attempts to move behind the swordsman, but could not, helplessly getting slashed by Hildegard’s sword. While Hildegard managed to remove one of the cultists, she now has a new problem. In that moment, the sword wielding cultist took the opportunity to swing at Hildegard.

Mitsunari, meanwhile, quickly followed Hildegard to cover her flank. With the bonfire at the center, the pair’s openings were somewhat covered, but the advantage didn’t cover for the fact they were still outnumbered. While loading up another windbolt, Mitsunari could only hope that the Oni and Kain were almost done. That’s when he noticed the other sword wielding cultist circling the bonfire towards him, and fired off another windbolt. This time, unfortunately, Mitsunari’s aim was slightly off, the windbolt only hitting a shoulder. The cultist staggered a bit, but quickly resumed his march with his sword pointed towards Mitsunari.

At the start of the encounter, one of the woman cultist quickly rushed to the side of the unconscious chalice cultist (presumably the leader), and began dragging him off. However, before she reached the edge of the clearing, the Oni pounced, stabbing his sword in the throat of the man. The woman screams as the blood hits her face. Then, without warning, a stone flies towards the woman, sinking deep into her forehead as she falls down to the ground. “Let’s go,” Kain carped curtly, “Missy’s in the wolf pile.” Kain would have followed the Oni, but when Kain notices the armed cultist approaching Mitsunari, he goes into a bit of a panic. "Mr. Fox!" He screams as he points the Oni towards Mitsunari.

"We'll save her!"

As all of this chaos was happening, the contents of the chalice was beginning to spill. A black, vicious pitch reminiscent of tar. While slow, it ominously creeps closer and closer to the edge of the chalice...

As Hildegard struck down the first cultist and turned to focus on the second she noticed the two crossbow men raise their weapons and fire. Either they were terrible shots or the lord was on her side because the bolts flew harmlessly by allowing Hildegard to strike down her next opponent. This opponent fell to her righteous blade as well leaving Hildegard with two kills at the start of the battle. Blast of winds at her back meant that Mitsunari was behind her watching her back. She noticed that the presence of the bonfire gave them a bit of cover, but she became more and more aware of how outnumbered they were as the seconds past. Despite going through the first two one after another, a third would step up to their place.

With the new sword wielding foe in front of her. She saw the cultist swing their blade at them. Hoping that she could time it right, Hildegard stepped sharply backwards hoping to avoid the slash and if not fully avoiding it, hopefully it wouldn't land a fatal blow. If all went well and she managed to survive her foe's swing she would bring her own blade up in an attempt to run the cultist through. If she managed to land that then it would be on to the next one, if not then she would have to strike out against the cultist again.

Hildegard: Dante Verren Dante Verren
The cultist swung down his sword at Hildegard, and though Hildegard did her best to step back, her right arm was slashed, leaving a large cut that ran deep into the flesh. Rather than recoiling in pain, however, Hildegard surprised the cultist with a sudden burst of speed, whirling her sword against the cultist who barely managed to block the blade with his own. TWANG, the clashing of sword went, causing the cultist to stagger off on his side. Hildegard noticed the opening when a crossbow bolt whizzed past her face. During the fray, the two crossbowmen had finished reloading. For the one who shot at Hildegard, it was obvious who his target was, but the other one, though initially aiming at Mitsunari, changed targets when the Oni became present in the scene. Surprised by this new presence, the cultist shot at the Oni without properly aiming, and as a result, missed the Oni completely.

Hildegard has been injured on her right arm.

When Kain saw that Mitsunari was in danger, Kain quickly loaded another rock into his sling before quickly firing off at the cultist approaching Mitsunari. This shot, however, was hastily made, becoming evident when the rock harmlessly flew past the cultist, making a “plop” sound upon hitting the ground. The cultist noticed the rock and turned his attention away from Mitsunari to look at Kain with a gaze filled with malice and hatred. Kain froze up immediately as his eyes fearfully locked onto the cultist's.

As the chaos was happening, the female cultist leader remained in front of the mound of corpses, struggling with something as she held her hands out. The individual inside the mound was still shrieking her lungs out, trying her best to resist whatever was happening. As for the chalice, it was nearing the spillage of its ominous contents onto the inscriptions. It was only a matter of time till the contents spilled…

It seemed that their swiftly thought of plan had begun to fail them as the number of enemies started to overwhelm the group and distract people from their original roles. Mitsunari could hear the rending of flesh just under the horrific screams of the girl whom they came to save. And just when he thought that he might become a victim, a stone soared pass and caught the attention of his attacker. Quickly his eyes darted to the direction the stone came from and he spotted Kain, bravely coming to his rescue.

He was given an opening by the distraction that Kain had caused and the fox was determined not to waste it. While this opportunity could be used to rescue their charge, Mitsunari couldn't bring himself to leave Kain in such a situation. He was partially to blame for the boy being out here in the first place. So with the attacker looking elsewhere, Mitsunari quickly raised his right hand and aimed it at the cultist's head. His magic catalyst, Kitsune's eye, emitted a dim light just before the fox fired off a bolt of wind, hoping to knock the cultist out and protect Kain.

Hildegard felt the slashing pain of metal tearing through the flesh of her right arm. The pain was replaced with a light throb as the warm liquid of her own blood seeped down her arm. While it would have stopped many, it filled her with rage instead. Mustering her strength she stuck out at the now staggered cultist ready to release her fury on her foe, but not with sword. Instead she lashed out with her hand while lighting raised across her hand ready to make the one who drew her blood suffer before he passed into the hell he so wanted to be sent to. Hildegard unleashed her ability Lightning claw.

As she did so she became vaguely aware of the presence of the oni and Kain joining the battle. Kain was behind Mitsunari, she thought. He was likely going to be okay. The oni was a beast, he could handle his own. That meant she could continue cutting down her foes, if he ability struck down her foe then she would turn and gut the crossbow men whose bolt failed to hit her twice.

Soon after the brute had stumbled back, Hildegard pounced, slashing forward as lighting trailed her hands. The cultists, wearing only ceremonial clothes, took the full brunt of Hildegard's Lightning Claw, immediately falling down convulsing while Hildegard leaped forward to take on the crossbowmen. As Hildegard was fighting, the cultist leader quickly realized that all was a lost cause and began pulling away from the scene. However, as she was making her leave, she tapped the heads of the two crossbowmen with her ring, causing their expressions to grow blank as both took steady aim at the now quickly approaching Hildegard. Without hesitation, the two crossbowmen shot at Hildegard. While one of the bolts only grazed Hildegard's cheek, the other one hit her dead in the shoulder, the force of which caused her running to falter and her to crash down onto the ground. With robotic-like efficiency, the two crossbowmen reloaded and were about to shoot at the now helpless Hildegard... when suddenly the Oni appeared behind one of the crossbowmen and immediately cut one of them down with his overwhelming strength and speed. The other crossbowman, still under a trance, snapped his crossbow at the Oni and shot, hitting the Oni squarely in the chest. The Oni, ignoring the shot, mercilessly cut down the man.
Hildegard has been injured on her left shoulder. The Oni has been injured on the right chest area.

Mitsunari and Kain: LadyOfStars LadyOfStars

From this distance, Mitsunari's aim couldn't be anything but true, the bolt hitting it's target in the back of the head. The man, who foolishly looked away from his real opponent, was hit with such a force that he soon quickly fell face flat onto the ground. Kain, acting upon his instincts, followed up on Mitsunari's attack, dashing over to the fallen enemy while pulling out his knife. Then, with shuddering hands, Kain stabbed down his knife onto the man's neck, the place he'd always go for when putting out captured rabbits. Unlike rabbits, the result was much bloodier. In shock, Kain dropped his knife onto the ground as the bonfire glow blurred the division between skin and blood on his face.

Just as the Oni was about to give chase to the cultist woman, the contents of the chalice finally spilled onto the inscriptions. Though pristine and organized before the fight, the spell work on the floor was now an absolute mess, ruined by all the fighting and blood. As a result, no one could hope that the inscriptions could fulfill their purpose when the chalice's black liquid, which was condensed magic accumulated through countless sacrifices, finally touched the inscriptions. Immediately, the eerie, crimson runes began glowing brighter and brighter.

Kain, having no time to process anything, suddenly felt the forest go into an absolute frenzy. After seeing the runes on the floor light up and feeling an ominous energy radiating from it, he immediately knew that the crew needed to get out of here, now.

"RUN RUN RUN!" Kain screamed at the top of his lungs as he scrambled to get away from the magic circle, leaving his knife behind.

When he agreed to search for the missing girl, Mitsunari had not expected that the villains of this tale would be so formidable. He had anticipated some solo criminal, perhaps a few lackies, but not a cult working in the forest. Initially he was glad to have waited for his own backup, but now things were spiraling. Behind him he heard cracks of lightning and couldn't resist the urge to glance at what had occurred. Now there was a surprise. Never did Mitsunari think the religious swordswoman would possess such power.

The most shocking however, was Kain. The boy was somehow bonded to the forest and that bond could affect him in different ways it seemed. For such a gentle creature to run a knife through a persons neck....was truly a twist that even the fox could not predict. But as the deed was done, Mitsunari could see the shock on Kain's face, along with all of the blood that he had freed from the cultist's body. "Kain..." Mitsunari called softly just before the boy suggested that they flee the scene of their heroic battle.

Right away Mitsunari thought of the girl that they'd come to save and how her safety would secure him favor with the village, but he could not ignore his desire to ensure his own safety over the girl's. "I will grab the girl!" The fox declared before he moved to act. Right away he turned, pivoting on his wooden shoes and raced towards the pile of bodies. "Quickly child." Mitsunari said in a hurried tone as he tried to clear away the corpses that pinned her down.

A fierce grin crept across Hildegard's face as the body of her foe was wracked with electricity. The form of the cultist dropped to the ground convulsing as the lightning of the lord coursed across the damned souls body. With the one who wounded her now suffering his last few moments on the ground she turned her ire on the crossbowmen who had so far been less then proficient in their aim. Raising her blade she rushed forward prepared to strike down the first of the two. Both enemies fired their weapons one flew past her, scratching her face with a bit of pain. However, one bolt struck true and pierced her shoulder. The force of the bolt caused her momentum to shift and she collapsed backwards onto the ground, both arms aching with pain.

A moment passed but it felt like an hour. The burning pain that ran across the upper part of her body was agonizing yet, it wasn't with out purpose. She was not done yet. Willing the strength to fight on she raised herself up only to see the glowing of demonic runes. Something evil was coming, and the screams of Kain served to reinforce this belief. Standing slightly shaky on her feet, she turned on her heels and followed after her allies as quickly as she could.

Just as Mistunari reached the pile of wolves, the Oni was already beside him. Without a word, the two began digging through the corpse mound, Hildegard joining in on the action. As they tossed wolf after wolf away, a hissing noise began to ring out from the magic circle, growing louder every passing second. With that foreboding indication, the group's pace quickened, and for what seemed like an eternity, Mitsunari and the Oni finally saw a pair of feet poking out of the mound. Moved by the pressing situation, the Oni grabbed the feet and yanked, pulling out a girl covered in inscriptions. With no time to examine her, however, the Oni quickly cradled the girl in his arms before booking it, Mitsunari quickly following along with Hildegard and Kain.

Kain's POV before they found the girl
Kain, completely frazzled by the forest's frantic state, totally forgot about the girl. When Mitsunari, however, ran towards the mound, Kain felt a bit of guilt that he thought about himself first. There was no time to dwell, however, and so Kain joined Mitsunari at the corpse mound so that he also could help. As Kain got closer, however, the gagging smell of blood and the intense density of magic became nearly unbearable, enough so, that he couldn't help the group lest he faint on the ground. When finally the girl was uncovered and secured, Kain was ecstatic that they could leave, especially since the magic circle felt like a swamp bubble ready to burst.

The group plowed through the foliage and away from the ritual site, but not even 50 yards away, the air around the group began moving in the opposite direction, as if something was sucking in the atmosphere. That's when the forest's anxiety spiked, and Kain knew that the magic circle was going to "pop".

"TAKE COVER!" Kain yelled as he quickly huddled himself behind a large tree. Not long after Kain had issued the warning, the air quickly reversed directions as a magic-filled shockwave burst outward. Stones, branches, and other debris flew past the group, and if anyone had not been taking cover behind a tree, they surely would have been blown away. Not having covered his ears, Kain's eardrums nearly burst, and way after the shockwave had passed, his ears wouldn't stop ringing. With all that had happened, the corpses, the killing, the explosion, the ringing, Kain, the poor child, couldn't take it, causing him to faint with his face planted into his curled legs.

Mitsunari was relieved when they managed to secure the girl; her survival was the first step to something great. He couldn't think about that now though, he needed to survive this ordeal himself if he was going to collect any rewards. When the party turned and started to flee the scene, Mitsunari did not hesitate to follow after them He leapt over tree roots and rocks, followed Kain's trail closely since the boy knew the forest, and every now and then he glanced back over his shoulder to check on the others.

That was when he noticed the air was moving in the opposite direction and his eyes widened, full of worry and panic. At Kain's command, Mitsunari dove down behind a nearby tree and hoped that the incoming explosion would pass him over without trouble. He wrapped his arms around his head tightly, hugging himself and bracing for the big boom.

When the explosion finally happened, Mitsunari couldn't hear his own thoughts, let alone focus on what was happening. Debris flew past him at dangerous speeds and all he could do was sit still and cower behind the sturdy tree. Random body parts and remains from the bonfire laid scattered about and Mitsunari finally looked up. "Kain!" He called to the odd child. cautiously he rose to his feet and looked around. "Anyone else alive?"

It was only by the grace of the lord that the group, two of them wounded, and the other being a mage managed to pull the girl free from the sacrificial mound. It must have been his doing. It was now his will that they would escape and make it back alive, that was what Hildegard was telling herself as she helped Mitsunari and the Oni drag the girl free from what ever evil was at play here. Even with her belief that the lord would see her home, she still ran with as much strength as she could muster. Her arms screaming in pain as she dragged her sword behind her, unwilling to leave the weapon her brother had given her behind.

As they ran through the forest Hidlegard was much less graceful then the fox Mitsunari, or even the little boy Kain. While her legs hadn't been injured she was still tired from battle and the accompanying injuries. She barely noticed the shifting of the air, but when Kain called out for the group to take cover she glanced behind her, and felt terror. In a pure panic Hildegard flung herself behind the nearest and largest tree she could find. She slammed herslef onto the ground and shut her eyes tight as the roaring of the explosion ripped past, silently begging for her gods protection.

When the explosion was over and she heard the voice of Mitsunari call out for survivors, she opened her eyes. What destruction and devastation she saw. If she had been out without cover, it would have been likely she would have been blown to pieces. Weakly she forced herself onto her knees and in a whisper of a voice prayed. "Oh gracious merciful lord, I thank you for your protection and salvation. Your shield saved me from a gruesome death. Bless you oh shining light." finishing her prayer she rose her voice, "Are Kain and the girl alright!?" She yelled out into the ghostly silent woods.

While Kain was more or less safe, being knocked out meant he wasn't able to respond to the worried calls of his party members. As the group began searching for Kain, the Oni was the first one to find him. Upon finding Kain motionless, the Oni quickly shook Kain's shoulder. After not getting a response, the Oni then felt for Kain's pulse, which was thankfully there.

"He's here," the Oni announced, "He may be unconscious, but he is safe nonetheless." After shifting the girl to one arm, the Oni scooped up the small child with his free arm before walking over to Mitsunari and handing the child to him. "It's regretful to note," the Oni spoke after handing Kain to Mitsunari, "but the circle's leader managed to escape." Because of his mask, Mitsunari couldn't see the Oni's face, but it could be inferred that the Oni wasn't making a good one.

As the party began to regroup, they would soon notice the wreckage left in the wake of the explosion. In a 20 yard radius, literally everything was gone, a barren crater a couple feet deep being the only evidence of what had transpired. Outside of the cleared circle, branches, rocks, and wolf corpses were strewn all over the treetops, making the entire surrounding area an absolute mess. Not only that, the air all around was thick with residual magic, so much that anyone would notice how disgustingly dense it was. Then there was the group itself. Though Mitsunari had remained mostly unharmed, the same couldn't be said of the others. Kain was conked out, and both Hildegard and the Oni were dealt serious wounds the would definitely leave a mark. To say the least, this night was a crazy one.

As if to commemorate their victory, a fresh breeze began blowing through the area, giving off an aroma similar to that of the wind felt earlier.

Selve, a lonely hamlet tucked away amongst the forests of Ryke, will never be the same. The report received from the party of adventurers were world shattering and no one in the sleepy village could believe what had happened. In fact if they had not witnessed the sheer power of the explosion, felt the shaking of the ground, or seen the wounds of their heroes, they might not have believed at all. The involvement of religious figures made some of the residents wary of faith altogether while others believed they needed to alert the King of their troubles.

One thing was certain; Selve would be more careful in the days to come and the people would begin to rely on one another far more. The forest would become a forbidden place to the people who once went to it for resources and relied on it to feed their families.

The village didn't have much in the way of wealth, but the heroes were permitted free logging at the inn, where the villagers celebrated and showered the heroes with gratitude. Although the cult's leader managed to escape, the sky is clear over Selve and all is well, for now.

Isekai Hell RP Grade
had a bit of everything. Some social and mystery. Some supernatural forest time. And then a whole bunch of violence with a conclusion to the story. A good well rounded Adventure overall. I noted a certain character using a sling like a weapon when it was not paid for as a weapon though. Shame x1000. I noticed there were a handful of times folks were rp'ing for other PC's. I assume permission was given, otherwise I frown greatly. The village could turn into a nice little hub of adventure for beginning characters or perhaps it was a nice stepping stone to greater things.

Aftermath
Assume all injuries patch up between rp's unless you feel strongly in keeping injuries. Since the cultists were likely murderers among other things, we will assume none of you got a murderer title yourselves for dispensing murder upon them. Wonder how all that killing will effect those who never killed before. Especially a child. welcome to IH.
