Graded [Yemaya City] An Interlude Pt. 1

Retili Loxinofican
Location: The Thorne Barony, Camp
Mentioned: @eloise Marcellus

Retili slightly relaxed as the soldier stood down, only for his senses to light up in an almost electric movement as he turned to spot the commotion. "Twelve hells..." The scribe cursed quietly as a ripple of fear went through the refugees even as the group ran from the shadow hounds. He saw the old woman go down and barked an order back at the question from the guards. In a swift flurry of motion he ripped the cloak and veil from his body leaving him in a tunic and trousers with the dagger belted around his waist. He pointed at two of the nearby soldiers. "You two get the refugees moving. Anyone else brave enough and armed help kill those damned things." He winced slightly from the sun as he took off as fast as he could manage and drew the dagger from his belt. He wasn't a particularly large creature nor was he strong, but he had no intention of leaving anyone to a death at the hands of whatever those creatures were. As he closed with the group he would aim to barrel into the closest dog attacking the old woman dagger first aiming for where he thought it's heart to be. The he would face the closest member of the dog pack and attack any that came too close by slashing his dagger at it. If luck was on his side he'd try and clear enough room to keep the old woman alive until others caught up. If not... well he didn't think too much on that prospect.

"I'm no knight, lady Hera." Finn would stand against the crowd, observing their rush with supreme calm. The benefits of such a maneuver was easy to see, you overwhelm a foe with as many attacks as possible... But.. he had experience against being so overwhelmed. One strike, shall be like the others, their numbers become no such advantage.

All they have done, is run closer to their death.

Always out numbered activated, team up bonus negated.

He sword glowed with purpose yet still, he'd retaliate against the force with overwhelming force of his own. Shield out front to intercept the incoming strikes the blade's glow turned vicious and blinding, a gold blade of light in which he brought down in an arc, stone and mortar providing no blockade against the great strike.

"I'm just a idiot with a cause!"

Regula
Mentions: Aria RavenSong RavenSong

It felt pretty darn good to be the bringer of hope and healing. Seeing everyone light up a bit and regain hope was great, being able to heal some of their hurt while at it only made that all the better. Regula knew that she'd need to be careful not to develop a saviour complex at this rate. Even so, with the regained determination of this group, Regula was less concerned about having to move them safely out of this city. Their renewed vigour would likely prove useful in what was to come.

With Aria following Regula's advise and scouting ahead, Regula took it upon herself to lead the group and [Muffle] the sounds, although even without it, they were doing their best to stay silent. A combination of luck and having Michael wreak havoc above allowed them to travel through the sewers uninterrupted. She nodded to the young man's comments regarding the safety of these sewers. She'd silently whisper back a reply. “They were far too dangerous, until moments ago. We got rid of a strange Fell monster that would've likely killed you had you ventured on, so you made the right choice to stay where you were and wait for help. Even now, it's best we move silently and carefully.”

That's when the real distance had to be made, as they moved on through the various tunnels. Luckily enough, they eventually made it out. Still, it was only when they'd made it a bit of a distance away from the city that Regula gave a deep sigh of relief. “Whew. I'm glad we got everyone out. You all did well.”

That's when she noticed a few odd things on the horizon... “What the!?!” Were they moving the entire camp? Had their position been compromised? No, wait, what was that? Shadowy figures going after the folk in the camp. Regula gritted her teeth, but then an odd smile crept onto her face. Seemed like she'd get to fight after all. “Everyone, stay behind me and don't get too close.” She warned those they'd just saved, as she cracked her neck and pulled out her gun, ready to lay aim.

She laid aim to any dog she managed to spot from her position, all 10 of them if possible, aiming five times at each dog (head, upper torso, lower torso, right paw, left paw) to ensure those grotesque beasts would fall as quickly as she could make them fall. “I'm going to check up on them. Please lead these people to safety.” Regula told Aria, as she readied her boots next, using [Boots of Hermes] before moving towards the fallen as quickly as her boots carried her in the hopes of being able to reach them before there would be any causalities.

Aria remained concentrated, knives in hand at the ready should any Fell monster decide to intercept their escape. Luckily, when they exited the waterways, it seemed things had turned out in their favor. She'd turn her head slightly up towards the bridge, the sound of steel upon steel could be heard, loud and clear. Aria could only assume Michael was making short work of whatever foes he encountered within. However, the civilians were the priority here, and so her sights went forward as she lead the rescue party at the front. "Quietly.." She whispered behind her, "..lest we give away our position."

It seemed like a wave of relief had come over all of them, but Aria wouldn't falter in her heightened attention, still keeping her wits about her, scanning the countryside for the path towards camp.

When they got within proximity, strange figures could be made what was most disturbing was that these figures were some kind of four legged beasts, made of shadow nonetheless. What she saw would only be confirmed by Regula own
distaste of the developing events. But then a sudden confidence would overcome her, "My lady?" she questioned as the rifle-woman got into position for a volley of projectiles at the enemies. Screams could be heard emanating from near the camp, it seemed it had clearly been an attack. Part of her wondered if others had likely failed in their mission, which meant Regula and Aria might be assigned new orders. However, that was all speculation now. The citizens were the priority, a fact confirmed by Regula's change of plans to adapt to the current situation. "Very well, I'll keep guard of the escaped civilians." She replied, already gesturing those in the rescue group to gather around quickly. "Change of plans, the camp is under attack, so we must be as organized as we possibly can.." She examined everyone swiftly and carefully, the one who stood out the most was the one carrying the boy, "..we must be quick. My partner here, is our first line of defense, i'll be the second. However unlikely, if you're attacked run towards me wherever I might be, and I promise to save your life." She stated with a nod. "We'll retreat straight behind my partner, to keep the fiends at bay with her as a positional shield. If anyone here is willing to fight, keep to our right flank from the castle, and another to the left just in case." They'd move 30ft back.

Kristina
sample-2c66668f0eaeeaefe5c10fe505fa8f45.jpgStepping into the library Kristina noted it was just as silent as the rest of the castle. The quiet tap of her shoes as it struck the floor was more akin to a gun shot, in comparison to the unnatural stillness of the room. She walked through the library with careful measured steps, her knife held in a reverse grip in front of her while her other hand hovered over a pouch of throwing knives. 'No one around. Nothing left but their clothes.' Letting her guard drop she stooped down examining what remained of the people who had been here. Kristina took off one of her gloves bringing her hand to the blood on the floor. It flaked and cracked as she rubbed it between her fingers. 'They didn't disappear peacefully, likely consumed by something if these things MO is anything to go by. And the blood is dry, meaning this must have happened hours ago. That coincides with the time when the city fell.' She thought back to that turbulent time. The collapsing buildings and rampant fires had seemed to spring up in almost an instant. At the time she had cursed her luck, but now she felt like it was good fortune she had gotten out when she did. Rather than run into the things which now control the city unprepared.

Standing up she slipped her glove back on as she slid her gaze across the room. It was in a similar state to the rest of the city with burn marks and collapsed shelves. Picking up an open book on the floor Kristina tried to examine it, only for the thing to crumble in her grasp. She stepped back, taking a good look at the whole room, drawing on her cigarette, she let the smoke fill her lungs. Then blew it back out through pursed lips, As the smoke cloud rose to the ceiling Kristina followed it with her gaze. Then she blinked as she saw a design drawn onto it. Examining it her eyes trailed down to see another upon the floor making a parallel array of some kind, reminding her of the one she had seen outside. With narrowed eyes and a tail raised high she approached it. Getting down onto the floor Kristina examined the array, but couldn't make out any of the markings.

With her body close to the ground it put her in line of sight with a table next to her, and underneath that table was a black book. Curiously she focused her attention on it. It was larger than the average resembling a textbook in its size. At first she had thought it burnt like the others but the inky pure black of its cover seemed to be the norm. It had no writing upon its face, nor an illustration. Reaching over she cooped it up into her hands. The pages fluttered as she lifted it but her finger kept it on its open page. Putting it to her face Kristina was immediately struck by the drawing on the page. It was a grotesque creature resembling a demon with sickly green skin, and beady yellow eyes. 'If I had known I'd end up in another world I would have taken Wei up on those D&D games. Pretty relevant now.' Kristina was unsure about any of this, she was not familiar with magic or its customs. But this castle, and this room... Her instincts honed over two decades were telling her to be wary, to be afraid. Her hand unwitting, she turned the page. The next was lines upon lines of text, but it seemed her sudden grasp over this worlds language did not extend to whatever the writing was. Turning back she was met with the eerie image of the demon. Staring at it, it almost felt like it was staring back at her. That if she let her attention waver for too long it would jump off the page. She closed the book, she had half a mind to burn it. But instead she stuffed it into her bag.

Turning back to the array she had been studying to no avail, she noticed the glint of metal in the center of it. Peering closer she realized it to be a ring. Her intuition alone told her it would fetch a decent price pristine as it was. 'A magical disaster, shadow beings, a black book... and an unmarked, untouched ring conspicuously placed in a room covered in blood without having single corpse.' It was suspicious, incredibly so. But at the same time Kristina couldn't simply leave it be it was part of the whole reason she had taken the risk to come here. Opportunity, information, profit. They were all here; she was too ignorant and lacking in resources to be unable to take the risk. Kristina tapped the ash off the end of her cigarette and put it back between her lips. She took intermittent drags, calming her nerves, yet the cold nausea inducing energy of the castle remained. Reluctant yet resolute steps marched just outside the array, rather than cross it she opted to take her knife and pick up the ring with the thin tip of the blade. Slowly and steadily moving to bring it out of the circle and into her waiting bag.

Michael had tendrils of mana streaming off his body as he brought his spin to an end. Just like the vapormen of Michael's past, his enemy was like a mist in the wind. It brought back nothing but memories of his torture. His typically resting face was twisted in a snarl and his eyes flared an intense blue as he looked around. Blue silhouettes outline more enemies moving off toward the commercial district. While Aria and Regular did well in moving the survivors away, Michael forgot his original mission in short order as he turned off toward the last sighting of the 'fell'.

His enemy was too far and behind too many obstacles from where he stood. Michael lowered his stance as legs tensed. His whole body tensed and his blades were held to the sides. The mana that had been leaking from his body up to that point stopped and flowed with the air current that wrapped his legs before he launched himself into the air. Around 30ft in the air and rocketing over much of the ruined buildings below, Michael would have an easier time making eyes on the fell creatures in the air. He would jump off a partial decayed roof time to give himself even more air time. He would likely cover the original 100ft distance to the closest enemies with the single jump but now doubly so. He planned to have a surprise for the fell upon landing. Raising his right sword to his forehead in prayer, he recited words infused with mana that fueled the sword:

"I beseech thee, greater will,
to grant favor to me still.
Though I stand alone beneath the sun,
I'm undefeated thanks to One,

My Alpha"

A brilliant light emitted from the sword and bathed Michael in a flash of blue and white. Moments to impact, Michael released an inhuman cry as he immediately started to spin, his blades splayed wide, shimmered and extended time and time again. In seconds that were sliced into fractions, one that could perceive in such time would see Michael spinning faster and faster and with each rotation, his mana would be forced outward into his blades which grew in size and brilliance with each spin. 2ft, then 4ft, then 8ft..128ft, then 256ft, then 500ft...

"Alpha Omega Enchanting Shredding Vengeance!"

Impact. The ridiculous spinning mass of mana which covered a 1000ft diameter area would make contact with the commercial district with force enough to destroy anything less durable than Scarlettite and other rare metals like orichalcum and mithril: buildings, streets, safes, subterranean tunnels, and especially the Fell. Using his transformation's superior sensory abilities, Michael would spare the peoples he could, but it was an afterthought as his primary goal was to collapse the ruins of the city down ontop of any of the fell that might take shelter from Michael's attack including those in the sewers beneath (the attack would have means of going underground of warranted). Enemies in the open streets would be much more vulnerable to the attack. Michael would make note to avoid Finn and Hera, his flash attack was a good marker, but he would not care whether he overkilled those Finn had already dispatched.

The city would have to the thank the Fell Blight for weakening Michael. He was caught up in the moment, but was somewhat surprised when his attack was only a 5th of its true potential.

With the gnawing suspicion of treason still fresh in his mind, Peng carefully followed the wayward advisor as he moved through the back streets. It seemed like his caution was unnecessary as Torrin moved as if he had no care in the world. The man did not attempt to hide himself or even move with caution, instead marching through the destroyed back streets past the carnage, and devastation with out even a pause. The sheer haste which Torrin moved and the lack of emotion towards any thing else around him meant one of two things to Peng. Either this man''s love for his sister was deeper then what Peng had thought, or he had information about his sister he did not share. Information of some kind of foul play.

Taking up an advantageous spot nearby, He queitly watched Torrin. It looked like the man had found what he was looking for. Peng took note that Torrin was using magic to move rubble aside. Previously Peng was unaware that Torrin could use magic. That was good to know. Deciding it was best to let the man move a bit more rubble, Peng crept a little closer using the rubble as cover. Just in case he readied his wand. If this was some kind of funny business then he would have to aprhend the man, or escape to bring news to the camp.

Rowan Thorn
All of that buisness with Torrin wasn't her problem at this point. Her job was to keep Hera from being extra stabbed, as well as Finn from gaining new holes. Rowan's powers had grown exponentially, and that meant she could use her barriers in new and exciting ways. Which mean she wasn't just stuck in her barriers, but could do so much more, change the game so much more from the safety of 100ft away. The first thing she did when Hera fell was to allow her access into the barrier wrapped around her. The 20ft barrier was permeable and could change to her whims, which meant she could do fancy new things like allow a new person in and out of her tough barrier. The next thing she did was cast out, creating a barrier around the soldiers, setting specific parameters that would allow only Finn, herself, and Hera access in and out of said barriers, which would allow Finn the luxury of attacking the soldiers without having to chase them down. (Dome Barrier- E Grade- 0 Post Cooldown). "Lady Hera, if you want to stay put, stay put in the barrier. Otherwise, you're free to move around and help Finn. Finn has this covered." If anything, she could just keep topping his barriers if they kept being broken by the group of soldiers. Her job was to keep everyone alive long enough so that any healers could come and save them. Negating damage was easier to do than heal from it.

-Selective C applied to all barriers currently
-Dome Barrier- D Grade- 1 Post Cooldown (Downgraded to E Grade.)

At Retili's command, two of the soldiers started to direct the civilians away from the commotion. They had to grab people who were frozen with fear and shove them in the direction of the hill just to get their feet moving once more. It was terrifying to think that they could die here, putting the lives of others before their own, but they had volunteered and promised to do just that. So as Retili rushed to the elderly woman's rescue, the soldiers tried to save the weak and defenseless. The scribe's bravery would not go unnoticed as his courage spurred the other soldiers to follow him into combat. His tackle into the shadow mastiff would achieve his goal and cause the creature to disperse, but by the time he arrived to her side, the woman was already dead. her face mauled beyond recognition. The other dogs gave Retili space after seeing him kill one of their own and instead they went for the civiilians. It was only the presence of the soldiers that kept them at bay, but even they were'nt ready for this enemy.

The hounds moved in a manner expected of a creature made of smoke or mist; they glided over the ground and soared easy through the air towards their targets. Dodging their spears and swords, the shadow mutts sunk their fangs and claws into the soldiers and the gruesome sight sent the civilians fleeing for their lives. And when the guards were ready to give up hope and even abandon their positions, they saw the dogs begin to dissipate. Regula's shots had hit true for several of her targets, sending 4 plumes of smoke up into the air and retreating back to the inner city. The other canines were lucky enough to be in motion and were either just graze by Regula's bullets or were missed due to their weightless movement.

Nonetheless, her actions had gained the attention of the monsters and the sic hounds turned from what remained of the soldiers to charge Regula and her incoming support. Thanks to Aria's leadership the civilians that the duo managed to rescue found the strength and courage to follow her. The red head boy passed the child he carried to another civilian and drew his dagger. He moved to the outside of the group , scared but ready to fight all the same. The woman who had lost her arm was the only other person willing to brave the danger and so she too moved to the outside of the group. She was in bad shape, but she had the energy to fight on.

As the hounds started to charge towards Regula and Aria, they first target Retili. Two of them split from the pack and pounced at the scribe. Their bodies becoming solid as they lunged at him with bloodstained muzzles and claws.

Another two split from the pack and changed course to target Aria, moving around to flank her and her civilians from the right. One would go directly for her, gliding over the grassy field to snap bite at her calves with teeth that resembled her blades. Meanwhile another would dive into the crowd, causing the civilians to break formation and circle around the nasty mutt. It snarled and barked at them before it grabbed hold of a woman's dress and started to pull her into the center of the ring.

Regula's foes soared through the air towards her, leaving a smokescreen of shadow behind them. Then when they were just 10ft from her, they collided together and the impact fused the two monsters into one. Now large enough to match her own height, the monster solidified its body and dove out of the air aiming to land on the silver-haired woman.

The swords crashed down upon the shield' rattling again and again as the swordsmen tried to knock it aside or bypass its defense. Their attempts would bare no fruit however and before they could counter, Finn presented their demise. The glowing sword illuminated the alleyway and in one swing he cleaved through the five swordsmen with holy light. There were no screams of agony from the enemy as thier bodies, armor included, were reduced to ash and swept away on the breeze that followed. The archers and what remained of the swordsmen all rushed to take cover just outside of the attack's reach.

"Thank you Rowan." Hera replied as she watched the barrier go up around them. Honestly she was surprised by the strength and skill of the relief effort. they had a variety of people with varying capabilities and specializations. As she was marveling at the success of the soldiers of Sol, Hera spotted in the distance a blue blur moving towards them. Her enhanced eyesight allowed her to see more clearly that the incoming figure was Michael, but any excitement she felt for the man's arrival soon faded when he utilized his technique. She watched as the blades extended and continued to grow until they were cutting through buildings and causing them to collapse.

While Michael's ability would not hurt anyone but the Fell soldiers who he deemed his targets, the fallout of his technique was not so picky. Screams would erupt from nearby buildings as structures started to collapse around the Michael. Homes, businesses, and other buildings that had been hiding spots for civilians were swiftly transformed death traps and tombs. As buildings fell in on themselves many lives would be lost, but Michael did manage to catch the Fell army in his spell, surely it was worth the lives he'd taken in the process.

Hera overlooked the dozens of plumes of black smoke that once made up the Fell army and focused instead on the many lives that were thrown away. The faces she had flown by moments ago who reached out for her hand to save them. They were gone. "W-Why would he..." Hera could not find her words as she fell to her knees in heartache.

"Finally." Torrin would proclaim with pride as he threw the last of the debris aside, still unaware of Peng's presence. He cast his spell once more, this time dragging a stone bench out of place. Underneath was a small door painted to blend in with the cobblestone pathways. "I'm coming Eustacia." Torrin promised. Unfortunately for the former baron, Michael's reach was great. The buildings which had managed to stay standing thus far war carved by the blue knight's blades. Torrin looked up and saw the buildings begin to topple. "No!" He threw his hands forward and the door was blown open. Without hesitation he threw himself down into the underground tunnel just as debris had started to fall into the alleyway.

All around Peng the destruction continued and stones that once made up a home or storefront now threatened to crush him.

Castle

The wolf woman's caution would keep her safe in a room marred by darkness and sin. the book and the ring were now in her possession, and together they seemed to hum, resonating within her bag. But that soft sound was drowned out by the destruction that took place just outside the castle. She would be able to see new plumes of smoke rising pass the windows as the collapse of buildings sent dust flying into the air.

Unfortunately the deaths of so many soldiers was like a knock upon the doors of the evil which now had claim to the city. Kristina would hear feel the floor tremble and hear a sound like wings beating in the distance. "Argggggh!" She would then hear a monstrous voice echo through the corridors, likely coming from the throne room. But underneath the otherworldly roar was a more human one, feminine in pitch, but screaming in agony. The nauseous feeling which had overwhelmed her before grew more intense now as a dark aura, visible to anyone with Appraisal, expanded outward from the throne room. The monster was awakening now and so she had been given her cue to depart. She could go back out the way she came without any trouble.

Retili's aim was true as he dove into the group and slew one of the beasts. Much to his surprise it exploded into shadow and smoke immediately. The dogs seemed to find a distaste for the small zentail crouched in a defensive posture before them, swiping at any who got to close. They chose to break off and attack the soldiers before Retili could even react. Quite helpfully reinforcements had picked that moment to arrive and slew another four of the beasts. It didn't stop Retili from cursing Peng for leaving the camp so ill defended though. If he had even one knight left behind to assist him he might have been able to safely rear guard the retreat of the civilians. As it was they were at a severe disadvantage on the terrain. His eyes darted around as the creatures decided they had enough of the guards and turned onto the reinforcements breaking up the rear. Two of the bastards were even coming directly for him. He crouched low and darted forward towards them. As both jumped he would attempt to slide underneath one while dragging his dagger up and through it's belly. Then he would turn and attempt to recover himself once again slashing if the shadow beasts came near.

Only 4 out of 10 dogs fell by her attack. That was very disappointing. She wondered if she should get her eyes checked or if she'd underestimated these creatures too much. She watched as the dogs split up and went after different targets. She wasn't sure how well the small creature (Retili) would hold up against these beasts and she'd ordered Aria to focus on defending the civilians, so Regula was still insistent on trying to hit them all. That said, in order to do so, she'd need to confirm her own survival first. She'd aim all 10 shots at the combined two dogs that were jumping straight at her, hoping to hit it across its body by using her gun like a close-up shotgun to obliterate it when it materialised again and just before it before it'd get to land on her [Gun use D] and would follow that attack up by another shot that was also aiming at the remaining 4 dogs going after Aria and Retili, firing 5 times at what remained of the one that'd just attempted to jump her and 5 times at each of the ones going after Aria and Retili (head, torso, left paw, right paw, underbelly/backside) [Gun use C].

Hopefully having cleared (more of) the enemies away now, she'd finally activate her cloak's [Safe Zone] in case anyone was injured. (At B grade if they were out of Fell debuff range, otherwise at C.) That said, she was both confused and frustrated by this situation, so she called out to Retili. “What happened here? Why is everyone leaving?” Having a safe place to return civilians to was an important part of he plan they'd discussed, so suddenly seeing that vanish was odd at best and a weird miscalculation at worst. “Did your previous position get compromised?” She called out, wanting to know what drove this change in plans.

The sight of civilians panicking and getting injured and volunteer guards barely holding out was a gruesome one. Hopefully she'd be able to heal them later, if or when her cloak was at full power and when they could ascertain that none of these enemies remained nearby. That said, if the enemy was already here, she wondered how badly things were going down in the city itself. Would the other group still be okay? She wasn't sure. She did notice one thing, for some reason, out of all the people here, the one-armed woman was the one showing enough bravery to move to the outside of the group. That was something Regula respected a lot, so whilst her eyes only shortly glossed at her before returning to the battlefield, she did speak up. “Ma'am, once this is all over, I'd like to learn your name.” She also made a mental note to have Michael grow her arm back. She'd earned that much, if not more.

Tsk... Bastards slipped away? He'd have to try something else, they wont be so lucky next.... Time? Blue? Blue magic? Shit, shit shit was this a new onslaught? He brought his shield to bare before... Nothing... Save for the utter destruction of the homes beside them. And.... Everywhere else... It seems...

Those soldiers, they were dead, to be certain the faint wisps were being already carried into the breeze... But... God...

Who? Finn's eyes turned to the sky, looking for the one responsible... This blue magic... The blades... He'd have only one culprit by those bits of evidence alone.

But... Sure he wouldn't be so... Foolish to drop a gigantic spell atop the city and expect it to not... Or maybe he didn't care about civilians...? Maybe this was simply a chance to show off...?

Fuck, focus, ignore the idiot he left you out of the spell you have to use what times left!!

"Hera!" Finn barked, turning to face her, a mix of many emotions on display...

"We've little time, and far too little people. Can you point me to where I can try to at least get people out of this hell? If their stuck in rubble they need digging, healing and both fast!" The man, was breathing quickly now... Gods... This wasn't happening was it...? "Please... The others may still need help as well... So many damn people..."

...And he was just,

One,

Man.

How was he to heal, help, and dig out so many? He... He couldn't save them could he...?

No... No he had to try He HAD TO!

"Please Ms.Hera, we have to act! We..." he... Actually didn't know what to do... It... Gods... a hand rise up to his face, clentching his forehead... His head... God his head... The feelings these people must be... And the pain.... This... This Betrayal... They were suppoused to be heroes right!?

Surely, they were heroes!! They had to act as such! But why... Why this!?

Peng watched and waited as Torrin continued to dig. He would just have to wait a little longer until the advisor was done and the perfect moment to capture Torrin in his potential misdoings. At leas that was how it was until the world began to shake around him. Peng wasn't exactly sure what caused the buildings to crumble down, what caused the screams of death, or what caused the city to quake. Whatever it was it not only costed many people there lives, but Peng's chance at catching Torrin.

Peng was helpless as he watched Torrin dive into the unearthed tunnel entrance tha twas once again being filled up with debris. There was no chance that Peng would make it in time so he did the only thing he could. Turning on his heels Peng covered his head with his left arm and dashed out into the open. He was aware that he needed to escape the debris before it crushed him like many others. It was then that he wondered what had gone this time? Was it his forces or the enemy that had just caused the cities second catastrophe?

TLDR: Reflects on the things around him, has a moment to reflect loudly, comes up with a possible plan and starts heading back toward camp to find Regula

AWYffhb.jpg
Michael stood at ground zero of his attack's impact. He was shrouded in debris clouds and blue mana thick enough to be visible. Despite the coverage and low visibility, the blue knight was glowing visibly from his body, blades, and eyes like an eerie monster in the fog. As the clouds dispersed, Michael's energy ebbed and the blue lights dimmed. Still in his battle form, he would remain illuminated but not nearly as brilliant as he was originally. Despite not needing to look around to perceive what was there, he would do so with jerky movements like someone still under fight or flight responses.

iRJp6Rz.jpg

Now visible, the ground beneath Michael's feet was a spiral pattern that spread out 500ft in all directions. The further away from him it was, the less noticeable it was along with the lighter the debris cloud was. The spiral was a series of cuts into the city placed over and over again by the slicing ability Michael had used. Aside from the spiral, the street level had been dropped enough that it damaged the sewer system beneath. The stench of the underground tunnels leaking out in places where the attack was able to dig deeper than others.

Aside from the buildings Michael spared with people in them, the rest in the area were reduced to their foundations if not lower. Their ruined state making it all the more easily accomplished. The buildings he spared were still toppled from the rough buffeting of the ability's power or from the surrounding buildings getting broken up and tossed around. Michael's eyes focused in on something that drew his attention.

Half stumbling out of the hole he carved for his landing, Michael would walk up the devastated street to close in on a spared building that had crumbled anyway. Its foundation was covered in a stack of broken timbers and brick. Michael would note a child's arm subtly sticking out of the rubble, loosely clinging to a ravaged toy doll. Without any enemies in the vicinity, Michael's senses were able to focus in on the child beneath the stones and discern she was dead.

Michael stumbled back violently, crushing brittle stones beneath his feet and thrashing his head around as he gripped it firmly between his hands. A voice that was enhanced with magic and resounding from his entire body cried,

"aaaaaaAAAAAA!"

Memories of his torture at the hands of the vapormen flooded in. One such memory was the pile of tossed aside personal affects of their victims. One such memento was a child's doll although the child was long gone from the world at the time Michael found it. The vapormen's habit to abduct, experiment, and butcher people indiscriminately was abhorrent. Their pursuit of their goals above all else made them driven but monstrous and worthy of hate. Much like an attack in a populated area while disregarding the possible consequences..

Michael continued to carry on for a few moments before quieting down and coming to his senses before he hurt himself or destroyed something else. The lack of enemies in the area gave him moment to reflect as well as a moment to collect himself. Michael trained relentlessly. Self restraint and discipline were some of his virtues. His hatred clouded his judgement, but the clouds were parting. It was time to think straight again and properly move forward once more. He raised his right wrist as his mithril blade Alpha extended to greet him like an old friend. Alpha could heal, but it was not strong enough to raise the dead. He shook his head and hung it in thought as an audible, inhuman sigh escaped him.

He was reminded of Finn, Hera, and Rowan's presence, but Michael was too ashamed of himself to make eye contact. Their presence reminded him of the others in their party that were sent to rescue people. The tent. The meeting. The healing. Michael did not have the means to undo but had been done, but perhaps Regula had a way. With a plan percolating in his mind, Michael would leave the others behind and start super jumping/sprint toward the camp in hopes of finding Regula and the other survivors. He would do his best to ignore the enemies roving the other areas of the city and focus on getting back. He would attempt to stay high and make the most of his aerial skills to stay out of enemy reach.

On his return trip, Michael reflected on the state he had left Finn and Hera in. He imagined his group would have looked similar had the survivors they saved died just as they were getting to them. It made him think of things he did not want to and shook his head again to empty out the thought. If he could get ahold of someone with the magic to raise the dead, he assumed he wouldn't have to consider the harder questions.

Aria drew her katana, spun it once before holding it still with one hand at her side. With her free hand, she’d draw a dagger, grasping it outwardly at her side. When the sword maiden looked behind, she’d noticed those who followed her command. Nodding, the sword maiden was pleased to see volunteers, and it inspired her quite a bit herself. When Regula mentioned the woman, she turned to look at her, suddenly realizing that her friend took interest due to her courage, Aria nodded once more. “Very well, stay alert, these hounds seem to appear and disappear!”

It wasn’t long after a few shots fired from Regulas rifle that the two hounds darted towards herself and the rescued civilians. However, she was more concerned for the one that seemed to sharply turn towards the civilians, she gasped softly, quickly having to come to a decision as she had also detected a more pressing rival coming straight towards her. Without another word, she immediately vanished using [Teleport Strike] effectively aiming her katana down upon the shadow hound's neck. A grunt escaped the maiden as the force put into the attack came down with force.

Rowan Thorn

One minute it was Finn against these soldiers- the next they were crushed in a spell explosion that seemed like the end of the world. She wanted to freeze, to scream at Michael, ask him what the absolute hell he was thinking, but the voices inside told her one very important thing- that there were still survivors, that he didn't just murder everyone. They could deal with him later. She couldn't live with herself if they didn't save at least one person from this carnage.

"I can't save everyone, but we can save at least a building's worth of people! I'll prop up the rubble, you and Hera go inside to save the civilians! GET THEM OUT NOW!!" Rowan called to Finn and Hera, choosing to ignore Michael for now. She would process the man's casual dismissal of human life later, once they saved as many people as they could. She didn't have the time to get any of the farther away buildings, but there was the one closest to them- a large building with screams of the still living coming from inside-while the building was only now just starting to crumble.

She cast outwards, letting barriers reach in through the windows that had been shattered by Michael- each barrier appearing in a different part of the building- using her barrier's almost limitless ability to carry everything to prop up the top of the building so everyone underneath could get out in time, or at least be dragged out to be seen by a healer. If she wasn't fast enough, she would just put all 25 barriers, each 15x15 feet into one building. If possible, she would split the barriers 12 and 12 to get two buildings, and if she was really lucky, she would split the barriers she had into 8 and 8 to get three buildings propped up, but that was fanciful talk.

Kristina
sample-1a060f8c6ff324653c18a807b15975c6.jpgWith a steady hand Kristina managed to remove the ring from the array without touching it. She let out a sigh as she finally dropped it into her bag. The moment she did a strange energy that was both felt and heard, but not at the same time seemed to come from both the book and ring. Cementing their magical nature in her mind. Rising to her feet she turned to stare at the state of the library. There was still a lot she didn't understand, but she imagined the likelihood of her meeting the same grim end as those who had once lived here was far from zero. And yet her luck managed to pull out, she couldn't deny how valuable that was. 'I'm just gonna treat anything magical like an IED...' Satisfied with her haul Kristina began to make for the exit, before a trembling rose from the ground.

She looked to the ground in surprise and worry. 'An earthquake?' As she had been trained to do she was about to throw herself under one of the tables that still managed to stand, but foreign sounds dashed that idea to the rocks. There was a loud billowing like the beating of wings, then a roar from a distinctly inhuman voice. Her ears strained, but could pick up another voice underneath the violent torrent of the first. It was feminine, and clearly pained. 'Ah, that must be the Baroness.' An image of the demonic creature she saw in the book came to mind. Soon after she felt the "weight" of the Fell Blight increase. Her nausea and sense of unease growing to an unprecedented level. A bead of sweat tricked down her brow but she kept herself as put together as possible.

Kristina made her escape, the castle becoming too hot for her to stay. She came for information and whatever she could pick up along the way, and she'd succeeded. The situation with the Baroness was something that was beyond her, and not something she'd waste her life on. That civilian had been one thing, but the noble woman was facing the consequences of her actions, it was unfortunate that they extended far out enough to affect many others, but it wasn't Kristina's problem. Thats what people like "Blonde Boy Scout" were for not her, she was no hero. Reaching the window she had came through she looked out to see the smoke over the city spiraling in the sky, along with blue wisps of magic and fresh destruction. The city was growing even more dangerous. With a measured kick off she leaped from the window, making her journey back out the city and hopefully to return to the camp in one peace [Tactical Retreat]. 'These should be enough to get my foot in the door with that "Count".'

The scribe's bravery was paying off and allowed him to face teh mastiffs without hesitation. As he recovered from his attack he would see one of the dogs disappear, but would soon feel a warm liquid running down his left arm and the stinging of a freshly opened wound. The dogs had managed to take a swipe at him and as the one remaining focused on the scribe, it prepared to make its next attack. Before it could however, a sword flew through the open air and landed right in the beast's head. It's body exploded into a stream of shadows that floated upward into the sky. "Are you okay, Sir?" One of the remaining guards limped over to Retili, holding a spear in his hand. as if it were a walking stick. "The civilians are moving and we should stick with them. With the new arrivals, setting up will be easier and quicker." The woman suggested

Regula had shown the shadow mutts no mercy and her rounds eviscerated the two that had fused together to target her. Unlike the hounds that Retili had killed, this one burnt up and disappeared. Aria dispatched her enemies just as quickly and managed to save the woman who was being attacked. That marked the last of the shadow beasts. immediately a silence that could only read as relief fell over the group as the civilians thanked their saviors and the gods above for another day above ground.

Regula's words brought a smile to the woman's face and she bowed her head. "My name is Isabella Forte, Ser." She raised her head back up and looked over to the other civilians, particularly the well dressed man. "I was not alone though." Isabella confessed. That same man approached Aria with his arm extended out to take hers. "Thank you for all you've done for us. Were it not for all of you, that place would have become our tomb." There was a sincerity to his voice as he spoke and behind him the civilians from the tunnels moved to start joining the civilians of the camp. Thanks to Regula's healing spell (Which worked at B Grade) many of the wounded were now recovering from the fight and healing up nicely.

Although nearly crushed several time, Peng would escape the destruction virtually unharmed. Once he was safe on the edge of the commercial district he would be able to see Michael traversing the terrain in a hurry to head back to the camp. They would both have a clear path to rejoin the camp, but it would be clear even from a distance that Retili and the others had run into some trouble.

Hera was still stunned, but upon hearing Finn shout her name she managed to awaken from her daydreaming. No amount of wishing would make this situation better and that sentiment echoed when Finn declared he was at a loss on what their next course of action should be. Rowan however, seemed ready and although it took Hera a minute to focus, she eventually rejoined the conscious world. Her wings unfolded and with a single beat of them she was airborne. From higher up she could she that a portion of the commercial district had been cut down, leveled by Michael's spell. But she turned her attention to the lone building that Rowan had managed to keep from falling. Swiftly she flew inside, only to be leapt upon by children. Crying, snotty faces clung to her legs and she didn't hesitate to pick them up. Quickly she floated out of the building and descended to the ground. "They were the only occupants." She announced as she set the children down. " I think you guys should return to the camp with them." Hera advised. "I will scout the city once more to gauge how the enemy is responding to this. No doubt the enemy will flood this area." The aerial didn't linger to debate the plan with Finn and Rowan, instead she took off like a rocket into the sky. The five children left behind grabbed and pulled on Finn's armor and Rowan's clothes.

Kristina made a timely and tactful escape while most of the enemy forces were distracted with what had happened in the commercial district. If she hurried, she'd be able to to find her way back to the camp without any trouble and rejoin the others. If that was her goal. She could also leave the city safely and head elsewhere if she chose.

OOC: All parties may return safely to the camp's new position. The camp will be in the process of setting itself back up, but the Quartermaster's tent will be accessible. Anyone affected with Fell Blight will be cleansed in the next post, provided that character leaves the city limits.

Retili felt the rending of flesh and muscle as the shadow mutts passed by him. He had taken one life but in exchange the other had injured him. Black blood slowly ran from the lips of the gash now opened on his forearm in little rivulets. Black muscle was visible underneath the exterior of the wound. He turned to face the last shadow mutt and prepared to make a second pass at the creature when it exploded in shadow, a sword burying itself up to the hilt in the head of the creature. Retili audibly breathed a sigh of relief. When the guard approached he made an effort to compose himself and not yell an obscenity at the top of his lungs about the situation. He removed a bandage from the satchel he always wore and hastily wrapped a bandage around his arm before tugging it tight. He nodded at the guard and returned to the group. When Regula called to him he shook his head and called back. "The last camp was out in the open and we had no experienced warriors left to hold our perimeter. We took a calculated risk to move the camp here to a safer and more defensible position while sending in someone to tell you all of the move. The advisor Torrin was supposed to reach you and tell you all about where we were going. I am hopeful he did from how you reached us." The scribe made his way over to the place where he had dropped his robes and hastily tugged them back on, pulling his cowl and veil back up around his face. He turned and made his way into the camp and started to help piece things together.

He paused, gazing down at the sobbing kids with his blue eyes, his... Despair... Seeping away... He.. Didn't need to be strong for himself, it's for them... Always was... Even if you save one life... it's a day worth trying to save...

He'd come back for that old man's body.. the crumbling building probably didn't do any benefits, but, the least he could do later on. But... these kids... During his walk, the sobbing started to die down, as they had finally managed to get back, to the new location even. His eyes were always on the surroundings, occasionally on the kids to see if they had run off. Only really doing so when they managed to get back, Finn would eye the new surroundings with curiosity.. Why did they move...? Hrmm... he had a feeling he would learn soon.

The strange feelings had washed off him, he was back to fighting form.

His eyes looked to the sky, waiting to see if Hera had made it herself.

Had that blast scattered the army? Where did they come from...?

he had few answers, he stood in the middle of the camp, waiting... For anything in truth... But relenting and going to the Quartermaster's tent, maybe people were already returning..?

After Aria has striken down the vicious canine shadow fiends, she quickly turned and scanned her surroundings, spinning her sword briefly before placing it back in its scabbard. and returning her daggers all the same. She took a deep breath, not showing much emotion but wondering what could have happened should they have been even a few moments late. “Is anyone hurt?” She asked those she was responsible for, after looking them over and none responded. She sighed again, this time obviosuly relieved. “Hmm, very well done.” She nodded with approval before the more lavishly dressed man approached the sword maiden, extending his hand in thanks.

Aria looked at his hand, then up at him, and smiled softly before grasping firmly. “I’m glad to have been of assistance.” She said, before letting go and bowing her head. “It was very brave of you to stand in defense of these people. What is your name and profession?” Aria asked, before raising her head and tilting her head softly, with a deadpan gaze. “Forgive my curiosity, i just find you a bit more ornately dressed compared to the others.”

Looking towards Regula, “It seems we have completed our mission, m’lady, however i wonder if the others have discovered the reason behind such a tragedy.” Looking towards the billowing smoke, and ash falling on the horizon, she spoke out loud, almost whispering. “So much, loss of life.”

With the shadow dogs all nicely vanquished, Regula gave a small sigh of relief. It allowed her to talk a bit to the surprisingly brave woman from before. “And I'm Regula. It's an honour to meet you.” People with bravery like that woman's were few and far between. Add to that the humbleness of pointing out the other man only added to the Isabella's qualities as a person. “You're right. You have my thanks as well, sir.” The main difference, however, was that one of them had lost an arm and still found courage... “Ah, before I forget, you should meet up with Michael, the knight with the blue tattoos. He might be able to help you grow your arm back.” Regula make sure to traverse around and have the range of healing on her cloak cover everyone. It seemed like it was working at full power again, which should make it powerful enough to even raise the recently deceased.

Retili too, would be healed upon entering the [Safe Zone] around Regula. “I see.” Regula wasn't sure what to think of this plan. She shook her head. “We've seen no sign of the advisor. We only happened to run into all of you on our way to the original site.” She sighed, this situation was as messy as it started, but at least they'd saved some lives. “Before I forget, I'm afraid I never really caught your name.” Either that, or she'd forgotten it. “I'm Regula.” That was good enough of an introduction for now, in these circumstances. Then again, the odd and small creature had acted bravely, which made him worthy of trying to remember his name.

Regula did not share Aria's optimism. “Our mission was to try get everyone out. I doubt that this is everyone. We don't know how many people might still be trapped in the city or how many the others managed to rescue. As for what's happening, if what Michael said is correct, someone likely carelessly opened up a tear into the Fell dimension and allowed its curse and monsters to enter our dimension.” As for the loss of life, Regula decided to try being a bit more pragmatic. “If we can recover their bodies in an intact enough state, I might be able to revive some of them. We can morn those that are beyond saving after doing all we can for those that yet stand a chance.”

That said, Aria did point out one thing that might give them more of a lead. She'd also address the fancier dressed man and add to Aria's question. “Are you perhaps part of the nobility? If so, do you know more of what happened and what the current situation in the castle is like?” She was hoping that putting an end to this at its source would be the most effective way of saving more people.

On the topic of saving people, she soon saw Michael return towards the camp. Blissfully unaware of what exactly had transpired whilst she was leading people out through the sewers, she waves him over. “Michael, over here!” She figured she'd quickly fill him on on their success. “We've managed to get these people out thanks to your distraction. We had a bit of a run-in with some shadow dogs, but they're taken down. Ah, right, before I forget, could you take a look at this woman's arm?” She nodded in the direction of Isabella. “I've rarely met someone as brave as her, so if you can help her regrow her arm, I'd be grateful.”

Force once in this operation luck was on Peng's side. Somehow he had managed to escape the rubble unharmed. Although perhaps it would have been better if he had been crushed to death. Then he wouldn't have had to face the absolute logistical and objective failure his mission had become. While the goal was still the same it was clear to Peng that after losing what could possibly be an entire district, his plan had indeed fallen to pieces. All he could do now was return to camp and assist in what ever way he could.

Setting off in the direction of the camp he quickly realized that something was wrong in that direction as well. Mustering up his strength he began to move towards the camp. Hoepfully quick enough to help out before things got further out of hand.

TLDR: Streaks through the air like a blue bold. Enters new refugee camp. Offers regen to a woman missing her arm. Tells Regula what has been done isn't working well enough and presses for a different tact to save the city.

AWYffhb.jpg
Michael was like a blue beam of light that streaked through the air toward the refugee camp. Literally running on air, he would slow his discent to the point where it looked like he was gliding through the air. Occasionally, he would leap off a partial run or highest point around to regain altitude and continue moving. He did not wish to waste time on the ground and potentially getting into fights with the fell as well.

His time making it to the camp gave him time to think and consider options. His eyes became less crazed and frantic and had calmed till they were steely with new resolve. Flashes of death would occasionally intrude upon his thoughts, but he would stay the course. For a man fearful of ghosts, he was more driven than in terror but the dead that haunted him.

Waived in by Regular, Michael would land heavily on bent legs after he dropped out of the sky. Tracking the movements of the camp was not difficult from the air, so he was easily able to pick a spot outside of camp to safely land. Striding into camp and being caught up on the situation by Regula, Michael would first turn his gaze to the woman in need of a new arm. There was no time, but removing small matters first meant more ability to focus on the bigger task at hand, so Michael reluctantly would touch the woman's arm, his bedside manner lacking the tenderness shown to the wounded man from earlier that day.

"Gift of Regeneration"

So long as Isabella wasn't under the influence of any issues that may prevent the healing and the camp wasn't actively in combat, Isabella's missing parts would regrow like the man's legs from earlier. There was a moment where Michael's eyes lightened in the feelings of doing something good and right for another. But images of a dead woman mangled by stones overlaid Isabella for a moment, reminding Michael of his misdeed and the reasons he returned to camp so urgently.

"Regula, we need to talk,"

Michael said for her and Aria alone. Not wishing to sow unrest, Michael would wish to pull them aside or at least speak low enough to reduce the number of those overhearing. His voice was firm and clearly displeased with the way things were going. Augmented by magic and projected by his battle form, his words were somewhat inhuman sounding despite covering a very human wish,

"The Fell came and I dealt with them. There were more. I dealt with them too. They kept coming. The city is in ruins, however. Unstable structures all around and survivors lurking in them. Openly fighting the fell will lead to more casualties as people get caught in the fallout of the street battles. I wish to do better for these people. To do more. I do not have confidence in the current leadership to save what is left of the survivors, much less, the already dead,"

Michael's rehearsed words kept him on topic despite flashes of the dead plaguing his vision and mind. He couldn't trust himself to save anyone at the moment either.

"I believe I have an idea that may work for saving everyone. I will need your help and the help of many more, but we could prevent further casualties, do so without leaving the camp, and if we are lucky, it might not be too late for the already dead as well,"

Michael's suggestion was not easily done in this world and would be seen as a miracle if it came to pass. It would be easy to wonder if he was hit in the head during his fights that day. However, it was a plan that involved multiple people. The number of saved citizens already brought to camp by the divided teams that went into the city was already commendable. The idea that more of them working together could save several times that amount was plausible.

The scribe did not react as Regula revealed to him that the advisor had not reached them. Retili's arm itched as skin and muscle knit itself back together neatly without delay. He clicked his tongue against his teeth slightly as he realized that his bandage had been wasted on the injury. He would have to boil it later to sterilize the bandage again. Rolling the dirtied cloth up and stashing it once again in his ever-present satchel he turned to Regula once again. "My name is Retili Loxinofican, Scribe to Count Linneus." As Regula's attention was pulled away Retili moved to and spoke with the Guard's commander about preparing the camp's defenses a little better once everyone had set up their tents. He wasn't sure what pits and wooden palisades might do against shadow beasts if they attacked again but he wasn't going to take the chance. Heavy on his mind was the knowledge that Torrin had not made it to the knights to inform them of the issue at hand. He wasn't necessarily heartbroken about the fact that he might be dead, more he was suspicious that the man hadn't even tried to follow through on the mission he volunteered for. If he had abandoned his post to search for his sister Retili would be certain to rake him thoroughly over the proverbial coals upon his return. Looking around he spotted Finn going into the quartermaster's tent. Retili himself broke off and followed Finn into the tent. He looked at the man as he entered and the spoke gently. "I'll need a full report of what happened in the City from each of you for Lord Linneus. Tell me what you saw." He produced a quill, ink, and paper to write the account down.
