Graded [Yemaya City] An Interlude Pt. 1

Tu'er Shen the Rabbit God
Hello and welcome! This rp is part of the Isekai Hell universe! If you'd like to join or learn more, visit us here

This rp will focus on the relief efforts of the Sol County Quartermaster and the Knights' Order as they try to bring medical aide to the citizenry of the Thorne barony territory and perhaps find the baroness.

Setting:
Location: Yemaya, Thorne Barony

Weather: Windy, cool
Time of Day: 10am

Finally they could see the devastation up close and all would agree that the reports did not do the scene justice. Though the fires had died down, the air still smelled of burning wood and flesh. Toppled buildings had become prisons for the weak or injured and the streets had become mass graveyards with charred bodies strewn about and unrecognizable. Smoke still hung in the air an darkened the sky. Though things seemed bleak and the people beyond help, there was still a lot that could be done and that was where the relief teams came in.

Composed of volunteers and hired specialists, Quartermaster Peng was put in charge of the relief effort for his logistical expertise and his sharp mind. They were accompanied by some members of Linneus' Knight Order who he had requested protect the relief team and if possible, locate the missing Thorne Baroness. Since the explosion there had been no word from her or any of the barony's leadership While the Knights had been asked to find the baroness they were instructed not to endanger or forsake the citizenry in favor of saving her.

Their travel by river cut down some of their travel time and made transporting their equipment easier, but they still had to travel from Lassiter to Yemaya, the capital of the Thorne Barony. The journey took at least a day and a half, but when they arrived, the teams set to work raising their camp outside the ruined city. Tents had been set up for medical treatment of patient that would need to be watched, and a desk had been built where an impromptu census was underway to try and keep track of survivors and the departed. The Knights were given their own tent as a sign of their status and their independence from the Quartermaster. They were a unit of their own and could go about their goals as they saw fit.

A small detachment was sent out from the relief force to scout the city and search for survivors, and they were now just returning to the camp. "Quartermaster." A woman approached the man and bowed her head. Her wings closed up behind her back as she removed her helmet. "Hera, of the scout team." She announced as she looked up and set her gaze upon the man. "We've finished scouting the surrounding area and within the city." The scout paused and her expression seemed to darken. "There are many casualties, beyond counting from so high up. We also spotted enemies prowling within the city. They appeared to be canine in form, but they were not regular dogs. There were also soldiers wandering the streets, but they were not of Ryke or Sol County." Her heart ached for the people within who were already dead, as well as those who were still alive and trapped within. "There are survivors within the city though, Master Peng, quite a few." As she concluded her report, the winged woman stepped back and clasped her hands together, waiting for further instructions.

"Survivors approaching!" Called out several voices. On the horizon was the form of a handful of survivors, one limping and three carrying an unconscious victim.

"Please! Please help us!" The limping citizen pleaded. He leaned on a crutch that supported the majority of his weight. The unconscious citizen was missing both of his legs, but the wounds had been tied off with tight ropes. The other three people who were carrying him were bruised and beaten, but not as bad off. If these survivors and the scout's reports were honest, then the Quartermaster and the Knights would need to decide upon a course of action and soon. They had people to rescue after all.

The destruction of the Thorne Barony was horrible, and yet it was better then what Peng had expected. In his previous life Peng had learned to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. He had no delusions that this would be an easy mission, and thus what he found was not as heart breaking as it would be for the common observer. Thus Peng was able to keep his emotions in check and keep up the neutral air he always gave off.

When the scout approached him, Peng was in the main tent sitting on a chair looking over a map of the city when it was still whole. Those more desperate or rushed may think a map like that would be useless in this situation, but not Peng. Knowing the layout of the city was important to gain an understanding of not only the scope of the disaster, but also the best way to tackle the relief. He hadn't been idle with staring at the map either, instead he had dived it into clearly marked sections. Civilian and heavily populated areas were marked in red, important infrastructure and medium populated areas were marked with blue, finally less populated and recreational areas were marked with blue. These were rough guidelines of course and would most likely change as the relief force kept up it's work.

When the scout called to him, Peng slightly raised his head, just enough so his eyes could meet hers. He nodded through out the report. It really was a preemptive attack. If the enemy was aiming to land a deceive blow before an invasion, then they had given the Sol county an equivalent to a broken nose. That just meant it was his job to set it back into place, setting up the preparations for General Dashi to do his own job.

With his right hand he gestured to the map, "Please Hera, point out an locations of groups of survivors that you can. Make your best guess if you are unsure of the terrain. Specifically where were the largest groups of survivors and where were the ones that you saw that were in the most need of assistance." In Peng's mind there were two categories that took the highest priority, quantity and severity. The larger groups of people should be prioritized over the smaller groups, just as the ones in the most in danger should be prioritized over those in less danger. If people were trapped but in no immediate danger then supplies could be slipped through to keep them alive while they waited until those more in need could be rescued. "As for the enemies within the city, we will have to assemble kill teams. Take them out section by section. We don't have the numbers to launch a full on assault. " Finally he stood up and motioned for a messenger. "Fetch the knights and any other combatants not currently on watch or guard duty." he told the messenger.

As he waited for Hera to give her report he noticed the arrival of survivors. Looks like the people were already taking note of the relief forces arrival. He did not move from his seat though, choosing instead to let someone else handle them. He trusted that he wouldn't need to micromanage every little bit of the force, and that one of the many volunteers would direct the survivors to the proper medical tents.

Michael, Hero of Osun
Cooldowns: Alpha D 2/2
TLDR: Michael appears in camp, attempts to heal the survivors, approaches the quartermaster for additional direction

It had been a while, but Michael had returned to Ryke. He looked different. Wasn't clear to him if he would be remembered for his service to Osun, but when he received the summons for knights of the order to lend aid, he answered the call. Striding through the camp, Michael would go to the commotion caused by the newly arrived survivors. His cold, blue, inhuman eyes surveyed the situation. Before they could get far, he would hold up the injured survivors for a moment,

"I will help. Hold a moment."

Despite his youth and shorter stature, his words were firm and left no room for confusion or contest. Michael drew the sword from his right hip. It's mithril blade sparkled like crystal in the morning sun. In a smooth movement, he touched the broad side of the blade to his forward in prayer before directing it at the injured victims.

"Alpha's Blessing be upon you: Area Heal,"

A brilliant blue light flashed in the camp as the sword glowed. All the injured within 30ft of Michael would find their wounds healing and sicknesses fading. Where the blue light shone, wellness was bestowed. Michael's healing power was somewhat stronger than it was before when he used it in the battle with the demons, but it was still not enough to recover lost limbs. He had something else in mind.

Stepping to the side of the maimed fellow, Michael would place his free hand on the freshly mended stumps of the man's legs. It was Michael's turn to glow as his tattoos and eyes glowed with the blue mana passing through them. The blue light flowed from Michael into the cripple's stumps.

"This will feel weird, but bare it. Gift of Regeneration!"

Michael declared as the mana in his body forcefully inserted itself into the victim and with it, his ability to regenerate. The man would not have the power long nor would it be omnipotent, but it would likely be enough to restore the man his missing limbs. Once finished doing all he could for the moment, he would sheathe Alpha and move to Hera and Peng.

"My name's Michael, a knight of the order and adventurer. I'm here to help."

ability stuff:
Area Heal - Magic D, Area E, Heal D - heals everything within 30ft of caster short of severe wounds and death.

Gift of Regeneration - Skill Loan F, Regeneration F - lend regeneration skill to a single target for a round so they may benefit from the regeneration power for a time

Finnegan

"...And now where I was your age, i could've taken em all by the neck and throttled em without a sweat! But you know what happens with old age sonny, your knees grow weak, back creeks over, yea can'nae get it all up anymore and yer forced to lean on travellers to bring yea along. Damned legs went and fell apart like a badly made fence I dare say me boy dare say! hair used to be fiercely blonde like yours, called me Goldelocks the Brawn they did." The old man upon his back had been prattling on for some time now, with Finn being the sole target of his long winded tales of the good old days. Not that stories like that bothered the knight, he just didn't like em being told by the guy hes currently giving a piggy back ride as his family has to trudge along beside the knight.

He stumbled on the family after seeing the trouble from afar, he hadn't planned on staying long, but.. well.. hes the sort to help where he can right? Plus, that type of thing certainly doesn't happen everyday.

But, well, it wasn't the worst thing, because the group had hit a band who were just walking along, playing for what folk they could. And they figured they could alk in with the group, and so, with some noise being made more folks showed up and followed, turning into a march towards safety in numbers. Folks limping, carried along, proped up on what walking sticks they can find, bloody holes in their bodies patched up by torn clothes and mostly clean burlap.

Finn lead the trail of what looked like a series of wolf attack victims and lepers into the camp, looking around like he expected to find a sign saying "Survivors stand here." he relented to put down the old fellah on a stump with the rest of the family giving a quiet thanks, still grieveing over some loss. The band silently humming along, trying to lift some sorta mood.. Better than nothing in truth.

Finn cracked his neck, twisting his arm to get rid of the bit of soreness before considering the camp. "Now.. Wheres a fellah gotta go to figure out what troubles barking up this places door now? Surely gotta be a big wig tent around here somewhere...?

Kristina
sample-6fd9cd421f932b4d1384d5098cfb5818.jpgHer ears twitched idly, ringing with a large influx of sounds. Frustrated she adjusted the heavy pack on her back, took out some torn off bits of cloth and stuffed them in her wolf ears. Her hearing had grown so much stronger that the cloth only just helped, but it was something. Ever since the mess with those terrorists in the city of Azuran her ears had started to change. Her humans ones were the same it seemed, but the ones atop her head had grown unbearable she couldn't sort through all the sounds. 'It's just so damn loud...' It was made worse by the fact that she was travelling in a large contingent of what was essentially refugees. Behind them, Kristina could see the remains of the "Thorne Barony". She hadn't been there for very long when things went FUBAR. Originally she had stopped there after a long trek to try and sell what she had pilfered off those terrorists. Then everything had fell apart in fire and explosions. The toasted corpses reminded her of Iraq, they weren't pleasant memories.

Amid all the downtrodden people she stooped up trying to see over them. She was taller than the average woman, but that wasn't saying much. She could just look over most of the people around her to see the mop of blonde hair and shining armor ahead of them. Apparently these people had rallied behind some Knight and were following him to safety. Kristina was used to a chaotic environment but that didn't mean she didn't rush to some level of normalcy and peace when she could find it. Her fingers twitched. 'Damn, need some nicotine, and I'm running low on cigs...' Doing her best to take her mind off the encroaching anxiety and minor
withdrawal she looked over the crowd again trying to spot their destination.

Just outside the Thorne Barony was a fairly sized encampment. Like most things in this world it had a medieval feel to it. It didn't look the most comfortable, as it was crawling with survivors, and Knights. She could manage however, in her line of business too much time around law and order usually led to issues. And she didn't have nearly enough money to have any in her pocket like Casper did. As they arrived at the camp and the crowd started to disperse into their respective cliques and wherever they were funneled too Kristina pushed her way to the front. She came up to the Knight that had led them as he was gently putting down a particularly verbose old man.
'Blondies pretty cute. Has that young and dumb vibe to him, he wears it well' Despite the somewhat sarcastic way she considered him she was actually impressed. He looked strong and his armor and blade didn't seem cheap. Not to mention that even among all the morose feelings of the people and the tragedy at hand, he still smiled. There were a lot of reasons not too, that itch in the back of her mind flared up at all the feelings of potential violence around her. But he still had that light in his eyes; It'd been a long time since she had that... Her fingers twitched again, then the scenes of the destruction of the Barony played again in her mind. 'More to add to the pile I guess...' She finally took out a cigarette, lit it and took one long calming drag.

"Hey boy scout, you know what's gonna happen now? Shit went tits up fast, hearing a plan of action from some kind of local authority sounds real comforting right about now..." Kristina was laying it on a little thick, but she was shaken. She'd seen a lot over the years, done a lot too. Bad things. But that didn't mean she was some kind of unfeeling machine. That'd be too easy. Despite that brief operation against those terrorists centering her for a bit she was still adrift in a world without the things that had given her meaning. Now she was just wandering, trying to keep her heard above water. She did her best to keep up a strong front and for the most part it was working she truly seemed like she didn't give a shit. But her ears flat atop her head and her tail hanging low was damning evidence to the contrary.

Was a single peaceful day with her mother and best friend long enough for the world to go to shit? It certainly felt like that when Regula learned of what had occurred in Linneus' territory. She'd felt a bit mixed about it. She had no particular loyalty to the order and it didn't seem like something that'd get her too much fame... However, she also wouldn't feel right is she just ignored whatever was happening. It's why she (and Aria) decided to once again make way towards Sol County. This time around, their destination was the Thorne Barony, something she knew little about.

The scene they encountered was rather gruesome. A lot of death and destruction hang in the air. From what she'd gathered, their mission was two-fold. Find the missing Baroness and help the citizens while at it. As she looked around, she suddenly noticed someone that stood out a lot. However, after a bit more looking she actually recognized him. “Michael?” She called out, a bit confused. “What in the world happened to you... is that... are those veins of mithril running through your body?” As a girl, she was a little horrified. As a blacksmith and enchanter, she was very intrigued.

She noticed he'd been using magic to heal some people. Two could play that game. If there were any people Michael had missed or anyone he hadn't been able to fully heal yet (or perhaps even some recently deceased ones that were revive-able), she'd use the [Safe Zone] ability on her cloak to continue the work Michael had started. As the magic was doing its work, she turned to those she hadn't met yet.

“Sorry if I'm late, I came here as soon as I could. I'm Regula, blacksmith, enchanter and fledgling knight of the order.” Those three titles should probably surmise her usage and reason for being here well enough, or so she hoped. If not, her demonstration just now should be nothing to scoff at either. “Would anyone care to bring me up to date? I came here as soon as I could, but all I've learned was that there has been some sort of attack and that the baroness is missing.”

Rowan Thorn

Rowan had been passing by, trying to get to her next job- always moving to the next gig, as she had no real, stable job. That was when she came upon this- a barony absolutely devastated. For a moment she considered not helping- it wasn't her business after all- but the sight of all these people...moved her in a way that she couldn't help. She had power- why shouldn't she help out? Better to be someone who could help, then someone who turned their back on these unfortunate people. Barriers were multipurpose- though some with less creativity would suggest otherwise. She may not be able to heal these people, but she could do other things- like make them more comfortable, or get them out of the sun.

It wouldn't do to go off on her own to a place she wasn't needed, so she decided to do the next best thing-go find whoever could direct her to the place where she could be more effectively utilized. So she headed for the Quartermaster, the person who looked the most in charge. "I can help with the efforts to dig out patients. I can hold the weight of the rubble, while you all pull out the survivors. I can also be on protection duty if needed. I can also make shelter for some of the most heavily wounded. Just tell me where I am most needed. " Rowan told the Quartermaster, once she had his attention. If he needed a protector for the Baroness of this land, she could do that. If she was needed to use her barriers as a lever to get heavier rocks up or use her barriers to prop up rubble so any persons trapped within could be retrieved, she could do that as well. She could make a small bubble for the most wounded to get out of the elements that was climate-controlled, to make their recovery as least uncomfortable as possible. Either way, she did not know how the barony worked, and would not insert herself into a place she had no knowledge of.

As a quick show of her abilities, Rowan demonstrated her worth by casting Barrier Dome/Wall over the area Regula casted magic at, creating a domed healing shelter with an entrance where people could sit inside, getting out of the elements. IF they were too cold, she could heat it up, if it was too warm, she could cool it down, all to healing specifications.

Like being rudely woken up from a peaceful dream, Aria’s features changed to that of shock. Upon hearing about what had happened in Linneus’ territory, and the summons for those in the order, once again, she felt compelled to join in and assist in the efforts any way she could. After all, Linneus was someone of note; someone who shared in her goals to improve the state of the land and those who dwelled in it. He would need all the help he could get, and considering they were still in Ryke it only seemed proper.

Some part of Aria was a bit excited, mostly because the Thorne Barony wasn’t a place she’d ever visited before, it’d have come up in conversation occasionally, however.

The smoke billowing from he city of Yemaya could be seen for miles, even as they approached aboard the floating vessel, it rained ash and the smell of death that wafted through the air. The destruction was immense, it was certain that efforts to hold those responsible would be certain. Peace, unfortunately, was a very fragile thing in this world. The more she explored, the more it appeared everything was plummeting into darkness.

However, Aria held out hope, the people were always the priority, and upon receiving orders to help those in need, the maiden decided to commit all of her might and effort to the cause.

Along with her dearest friend Regula, of course.

Upon seeing the dire need for aid, Aria wasted no time, "I'll be back soon m'lady." She called behind her, as she quickly held up a wounded young boy as he collapsed right in front of her. Aria would quickly pick him up and rushed him to the medical tent. Once there, she followed the field medics directions, “Now, sit right here..” She said while letting the injured boy down onto a medical bed. Groaning and wincing, his burns were severe, but fortunately it seemed he would be fine after some wrappings and medical attention. “..be well, someone will tend to you shortly.”

Heading back out, she found Regula, now with others known and unknown. But Finn quickly caught her attention, “Finn?” She said with disbelief, “Is that really-?” She rubbed her eyes a bit, “Hmm, it seems we keep running into eachother, although this is quite the dire occasion. What are you- never mind, we have to help these people.” Then her attention would shift towards another, who had a way of speaking the war maiden had never heard before; one with canine ears and a bushy tail.

“You were here when the attack happened?” Aria asked without aknowledging some of the things she said that didn’t quite make sense to her. “I must agree however..” She nodded, as she looked out for someone in command, “..i only got a bit of a briefing; anyone able is to help the citizenry and assist in the search for the baroness, must do so.”

Looking back to Finn she bowed her head softly, “I’m headed back out there Finn, there has to be someone in charge here, or a courier, assigning orders on how best enter the city." Turning towards the wolf eared one she remarked, "If you witnessed how this destruction came to be, I'm certain those in command would appreciate your report."
--

Without another word, she returned to find Regula, spotting her quickly after this small group of injured had been tended to, "M'lady, These waves of injured are likely going to grow-" Looking back towards the camp, she spotted a messenger, perhaps he had orders on how to best approach this crisis.

At Peng's command, a runner left his tent with the Quartermaster's instructions fresh in his mind. He hurried through the relief camp and passed along Peng's summons for the knights and any other combatants. The relief teams did have a small number of guards with them, all of which were volunteers from around Sol, which meant most of them were not exactly the best fighters, but they would serve well enough to guard the camp.

1665192780085.png

Hera was glad to be able to put her knowledge to use for the Quartermaster and as requested, she set to marking the map with locations that she could remember. The residential area is in bad shape sir. Homes have collapse and it seems a crater has formed where there was once a well. In what few homes did still stand I saw clusters of civilians reaching out to grab my attention and some pointing out the location of trapped people." The gnarly images of the dead flashed in the scout's mind, but she shook her head to dispel the discomfort that brought her.

She pointed next to the more commercialized area of the city. "I saw just as many people here, but in smaller groups that were scattered about and I could hear voice under the debris, but could not move any of it on my own. The enemy forces seem less focused on this area." She wondered about the construction of the shops there and how many might have had underground rooms or places for people to hide and take shelter. "The area closer to the castle has the least damage done to it, but the casualties are high there. The enemy is greatest in numbers here as well. I saw perhaps 20 people in total hiding within this area. Although they won't last long without assistance." Hera stepped back from the table and cleared her throat. "I also have to warn you sir...there is a sort of...presence within the city that grows stronger the closer one gets to the castle. Like a dak energy. I saw no signs of what it could be caused by or what affect it could be having."

Michael's show of healing prowess wowed not only the people whom he had treated but also the medics and healers who watched the display. They were all impressed and some even envious of his capability. But their judgement would be swept away by the cheers that came from the survivors as the man's body seemed to repair itself. Tears ran down his face and he got down on his knees to thank Michael for his gift. "You have my boundless gratitude sir. Thank you. Thank you!" With the guidance of the medics, the survivors would be taken to the check-in where their arrival could be logged.

Finn's arrival with a handful of victims finally kicked the camp in gear as healers and medics rushed over to offer assistance to the injured. "Thank you for bringing them to us." A woman said with a soft voice to the blonde knight and the shady looking woman with him. "If you're both looking to join our work, the Quartermaster is in the central tent and he might be able to help you."

Regula's healing spell would go to waste sadly. The survivors brought in by Finn and Kristina were out of her reach and no other wounded of suffering people had arrived to the camp just yet.

As everyone gathered in the tent to speak with Peng, another figure entered, their face concealed by a blue hood. "This is the rescue effort for my sister?" The voice asked in a condescending tone as the hood was pulled back to reveal Torrin Thorne, advisor to the Count of Sol. He looked around at the many faces, some familiar and some not, but looked to Peng. There was desperation and anger behind the advisor's eyes. "Yemaya is in ruins and the only reinforcement you have gathered is this pathetic excuse for a relief effort? Was the explosion that lit up the sky not enough to light a fire under your master's ass? Where is the General?"

Peng's eyes followed Hera's movements with a laser like focus. He took note of even the slightest twitch as she pointed out the various locations she had noted on her scouting mission. It seemed like Peng needed to adjust his plan. The matter of the castle interested him greatly, little damage meant that it was not the main target of the explosion. The confirmation of enemy forces had wiped away any suspicion that this was an accident. That meant there was something the enemy wanted inside the castle... or someone who was working with the enemy from the inside. That was a possibly that put a sour taste even in Peng's mouth, but he would ignore no possibility... and in that scenario there were two individuals who were the most suspicious It was only when the new arrivals spoke up that Peng was pulled out of his thoughts then diverted his gaze from Hera and the map.

The first to approach was a man who looked straight from myth, a knight with magic flowing through his veins. Peng bowed his head in respect and offered up his gratitude, "Thank you Sir Michael. This expedition is grateful for your assistance. "Another knight joined them, this time a blonde woman who introduced herself with a demonstration of her ability and an explanation rather then a name. Other knights and adventures gathered at the camp but no one else approached his tent, so Peng would speak to them later. That or those listening to his instructions would speak to them for him. Looking at Rowan he gave her a brief bow as well, "Thank you for your assistance as well. I'm sure I will have much work for you. For now We are just planning a strategy to tackle the situation, so please wait on standby." he replied to her. Finally the last to approach his tent was the lord Thorne.

Not rising to the advisors bait, Peng promptly ignored him and turned back to his map. "As of right now we face a choice. Do we start with the commercial district where people are more likely to die via rubble and the terrain, or do we start in the civilian district where our enemies presence is stronger and the people are more likely to be found and executed." he tapped the edge of the table with his hand as he spoke, a sign that he was attempting to come up with a plan. "I have an idea but I'm not sure we have the forces to do it. We either need a lot of manpower which we are sorely lacking in, or a few strong individuals who aren't afraid of getting dirty." Peng raised his right hand and gestured towards the civilian sector. "Our main problem here is getting in to the area and not having the citizens rush out to try and follow us back here. That large of a group of people will only draw attention. What I propose is that any knights not focused around healing each take a cloak, smear it with mud and dust, then venture into the area posing as survivors looking for a way out. The people are less likely to rush out and join you as easy targets. Instead they will likely continue to hide away, and for those that do come out they can be pointed back here to camp. If this group encounters any patrolling enemies then they will have the element of surprise. The last thing our foes will expect is that the helpless survivors they are hunting are actually skilled combatants."

As he finished speaking he motioned with his left hand to the commercial district. "On the other hand this area is less guarded, we can easily push a team in to start clearing the rubble. The issue is that once we do it will draw a lot of attention. That is where Our scouts come in. We will equip can equip our flyers with flags, assign them flight duty over the area and have them make periodic symbols with the flags. It won't mean anything to the enemy but will mean something to us. The flyers can lead the enemy away by making signals to troops that don't exist. This can buy us time to clear some of the rubble in the commercial area. However this will be extremely dangerous for the scouts who will have the enemies attention. We can only implement this plan if Hera is willing. If not then I can come up with another plan given a bit of time." Looking over to Rowan he nodded to her, "This plan will need to be carried out as quickly as possible. If you are confident in your abilities to handle clearing rubble then likely this will be the location I place you at. Even if we do not utilize the scouts and go with a different kind of distraction. Possibly in a leading role if you can direct others as well. "

Finally Peng turned his attention to the loudest problem in the room. "Lord Thorne, if you wish to save your sister then you must reveal everything you know by answering every question I ask honestly and to the best of your ability. If you do not then I estimate a minuscule chance we can save your sister if she still lives. What if any connections does your sister have with anyone that might be of shady character. Who are her most trusted advisors, and lastly what if any magical items were stored with in the castle's grounds. "Peng locked his eyes with the advisors and would not break contact with the man. He was aware of the man's higher social status, but this was Peng's mission. He would not allow it to go array because of a lord's desire to save one person over the lives of many.

"hey-" Holy sweet lord it was a beastfolk. And she was a wolf too!! that tail! it was so cute! So fluffy! She looked so sad with her ears down... Oh how he wanted to pet this fluffy thing! No, Finnegan, keep strong and focused, there was no time to be enraptured by the fluffy folk. Keep focused, she was talking to you, come on now. "Yea, i'd like to know it too, just got myself." the young man cracked his neck, giving a look around... Before a person came upon him once more, Lovely aria! how nice to see her.

"Ah, righty." the man scratched his chin. "Guess we're not gonna be able to catch up.. Uhh..." his attention split between the fluffy new friend and Aria, but with aria leaving he was only with the canine woman. "...So..names Finn, adventurer, known for being a poor damn sucker who drags along newbies to victory kickin and screaming." he introduced himself the best way he knew how.

"Guess it's not too bad being known for being reliable but.. Well..." he scratched his nose, trying his best to not stare at the OH SO VERY CUTE EARS.

"..Well.. We should follow her, shes a reliable sort. Works for a big wing brat, so, at least theres money being tossed around if yea care for that... And on the better side, they should know what we should do..." Being guided along by a healer woman, he motioned for his new friend t come along with, figuring it was a good enough place to go as any.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now Finn was disappointed once more.
Not five minutes was he in here he was being bitched at by a whiney nobleman and... An advisor...? he certainly spoke like one, hell the amount of words he spilled out of his mouth made Finn lose interest in what he was even saying five seconds in. he considered the tent, looked around to the winged quartermaster and considered her instead... An interesting winged woman, had a bright sunny face that was in a state of stress. Couldn't blame her, poor girl had to deal with all of them and more. Probably wanted everyone out of her tent so she can get actual work done.
"..Aria I got no clue who either of these folks are..." he leaned over, saying under his breath as he looked ahead. "..Big wigs of yours? friends? Annoying nobles..?" he spoke softly, then spyed his new canine friend. "...Some folks wouldn't be happy with the sun at their disposal, don't listen to him too much.. Typical noble prattling..." he gave some words, more or less saying *They're gonna complain no matter what it's generally best to ignore ninety percent what they say.*
Kristina
sample-6fd9cd421f932b4d1384d5098cfb5818.jpgStanding in front of the knight Kristina tilted her head. She had called out to the blonde young man leading the mob of displaced victims. Having gotten closer she could tell her first impression was correct. The knight was just about a head taller than her with a fairly strong frame and broad shoulders. Of course some of that was from the shape of his armor, but he obviously took care of his body and made an effort to stay fit. That physique was relegated to the best soldiers where Kristina came from. Hell she doubted anyone short of Delta Force could claim the same. Kristina wasn't the intimate type; it didn't lend itself to her line of work very well, but even she could admit the knight before her had made a good impression she could respect that.
'Why's blondie looking at me like that though?' She had walked up to him and struck up a conversation. In part to take her mind off her mounting anxiety and to get a handle on what to do with herself next now that business had just gone up in flame, literally. Yet he was giving her this rather intense look. He was about to speak but had gone speechless. She couldn't think of a reason why he would be like this other than suspicion, maybe he was sizing her up or even recognized her? Since coming to this world she hadn't done much extralegal stuff, but run ins with models of law and order made her restless as a reflex at this point. One of her ears twitched as her anxiety was briefly forgotten in favor of preparing for a potential altercation. Her tail began to stiffly wag from side to side slowly leaving its low position, while her ears went from flat to sticking straight up. Almost instinctually her hand started to move to the knife hidden within her clothes.
Then the tension within her faded at his words. It was strange, he was...
'Just too damn earnest!' The guy seemed like her was perfectly upfront, all the time! And she had just met him! To be honest Kristina was a little uncomfortable, people like this weren't supposed to actually exist. She pursed her lips her cigarette following the movement of her lips, and looking at him with a perplexed expression. Fortunately she was saved by the intervention of another. A girl clothed in green and with a head of pale hair almost completely white. At her sides were a pair of unique looking blades. Kristina held back letting out an impressed whistle. 'and I thought Schwarz looked a bit out there. This girl looks like she'd be at home in Lord of The Rings. Is white hair really that common here, what's next blue?' she eyed the girl as she approached. She called out to the blondie in recognition. After a brief conversation she began to question Kristina a bit.
"Right, I was there looking to peddle my wares when it all went downhill. Didn't see much of what actually caused it if you're wondering that." She didn't look disappointed by her words she merely blew out some smoke and tapped off the burnt end of her cigarette. "Hm, so those are the marching orders is it? I'm just a merchant so I'm not sure how much of an 'assist' I could really offer." She left it at that content to idly smoke in the meantime, letting her nerves slowly fade. 'so this Baroness was kidnapped? Is this another terrorist situation? Either way it could be an opportunity, a way for me to endear myself to the big wigs and "set up shop".' As the fantastical green girl was about to turn away she addressed Kristina one more time. She raised an eyebrow quizzically at her suggestion. "Sure I'll give the brass what info I have good luck out there kid." She blew out another puff of smoke as she raised a hand in a casual goodbye.
Now it was just her and Blondie. By this point her nerves had improved. With her ears standing up and her tail no longer as low and fearful looking as it had been before. Sensing some kind of awkwardness the blonde man next to her introduced himself giving a basic introduction with a bit of humor. 'So Blondies name is Finn... And an adventurer? Not sure what that is, but if that means he's not with the feds that makes things a lot simpler.' she eyed him a bit saying nothing then let a light smile grace her face. "In that case I'll be relying on you to protect me while we're together Mr. Big and reliable adventurer. You'll be my good luck charm." She smirked as if she found what she said particularly funny. The mention of money was enough for her to follow at his side, cigarette loose and hanging from her mouth while her hands were in her pockets. She felt his intensive gaze on her again though she wasn't wary of it like the first time. "My eyes are down here Perv Knight." She had a mischievous smirk on her face which was just about the most emotion she had let show on her face so far. "And I'm Lupa by the way. A humble business woman."
Before long they arrived at the quartermasters tent having been guided there. The scene they met with was an all too familiar one to her. A soldier being ordered around and talked down to by an ignorant civilian. The guy was obviously in charge if his gaudy tasseled oriental outfit was anything to go by. She had to hand it to him though he was taking it all in stride and he didn't look too bothered by what Finn had said was a nobleman. So far he seemed like the kind of guy you'd want in charge of an operation like this. 'More trouble from nobility. Wonder if he's one of the families supplying those terrorists in Azuran? That'd be interesting.' She stood beside Finn listening in on the conversation. At his statement she chimed in "Yeah, tell me about it. Ignorant beuracrats like that are always gonna whine." Her tail wagged slowly from side to side as she watched.
TLDR: Michael gives those with the standing time to chat and acknowledges Regula. Openly Appraises everyone in the tent to see who he will be working with. Tosses one of his ideas into the ring for Peng to consider.
The tent had grown crowded and Michael, although acknowledged, would seemingly have to wait for direction to be given. He couldn't help but look to Advisor Thorne with contempt as the man's outburst tightened the corners of Michael's eyes and put tension in the corners of his mouth. He had no ill will to the advisor and could sympathize with the man's situation in a way. Memories of Jareth washed through Michael's mind briefly at the thought of losing someone. However, the way the man spoke was off putting for Michael and just wanted to get away from the situation. He felt his talents and time were better used elsewhere.
Stepping away from the table to let the higher ups debate the situation without interfering, Michael could properly say hey to Regula. Finding a tent pole to lean against and crossing his arms of his chest, Michael sighed and took a more relaxed posed. He even allowed his neck to lul to the side briefly to stretch since he had the time to waste. Although his eyes lazily surveyed the room of 'special' people, his words with Regula were very firm but said low to not interrupt the conversation at the table.
"I stand out enough as it is. Please don't mention the metal. Better for people to think they are just some gaudy tattoos.
It's good to see you by the way. Looks like you've grown more since the last time,"
Michael raised a gloved hand and swirled a pointed finger in the air at the magical healing Regular had performed. Then Michael's eyes opened wide in a sudden realization,
"Oh, I nearly forgot. Last time I saw you was to take on your request. The guys that went with me did secure the..."
Michael stopped himself short and then peered around at the room and thought better of what he was about to say.
"..the thing you wanted was secured. You just have to spin by the Duchy sometime."
Michael recognized Aria and Finn. The rest of the room was strangers and eccentrics to him. A beastman with a cig? The barriers looked like they could be useful, but their use and user was odd. Michael's eyes revealed the components of the barriers used and they were doing things typical barriers didn't and in some cases things it shouldn't. Very odd. Michael didn't just use his eyes on the barriers though. He scanned everyone in the room and didn't much care about how rude it may have been perceived to be. He'd rather know what he could to better handle the situations ahead.
"Blue Sight"
His eyes, which were already an oddly blue color, shimmered magically as well as the facial tattoos to a lesser extent. His gaze, which already might give the average peasant the sensation of being peered through like a window, would give a sensation of having their souls looked at or less accurately like being peeped at when naked. In the event it gained Peng's attention, Michael would add, as a poor way of making amends,
"Did I happen to mention I have skills that could aid in particularly difficult search and rescues?"
Otherwise, Michael would shrug off any poor receptions.
Aria tilted her head upon observing the half wolf’s carefree demeanor. She couldn’t help but wonder what the smoke stick in her mouth could be, it smelled a bit strange but perhaps she was from distant lands, from a different more varied culture than her own humble beginnings in Highgrove. Nonetheless, she entertained her remarks briefly, “A merchant? Hmm, I must go, but perhaps we'll meet later.” She asked, but although Kristina seemed very interesting Aria couldn’t help but break from the conversation. Turning her head slightly towards the wolf behind her back, when she referred to her as 'kid'.
--
Once the messenger addressed the knights and spoke the words he was instructed to do so, Aria nodded, “I assume that is where everyone is to meet?” Gesturing with her eyes at the strategists hastily constructed tent and planning area. The messenger confirmed, and made her way towards the quickly forming crowd before the breifing began.
She stood somewhat closely behind Regula, paying attention to this Peng’s estimations, likely scenarios, consequences and plans. But then a shadier and much more more moody character would interfere in the planning. Making critical comments with a demeaning attitude towards those who answered the call to save his sister.
There was some degree of logic behind his frustration that made sense to her; they weren’t exactly uniformed, and trained in matters of search and rescue. However, to border on the line of being flat out rude while expecting good results felt a little counter intuitive. “Hmm, Lord Thorne..” She whispered to herself as if making a mental note, especially the bit that he was the Baroness’s brother. "..I'm not impressed."
Back to the planning though, it seemed there would have to be two groups, but before she could make a suggestion, Finn leaned in to whisper, inquiring about the upset noble who seemed to be pulling a fair degree of attention, she looked surprised at first but noticing it was Finn, Aria gazed down at the ground and sort of moved some dirt around with the tip of her boot. "..he seems like the typical noble type I'm afraid, I just hope his sister isn't as difficult as he appears to be. Perhaps he's just concerned though, I'd be a bit of a brat if Regula went missing."
Aria was a bit amused at the wolf lady's remarks, she'd smile but not say anything else, considering they were in the middle of a briefing and a very upset noble was being hyper-critical of their involvement. It would certainly be a shame to suddenly be the spotlight of all the attention Lord Thorne had brought towards himself.
Then among the small company that was present, Michael spoke up, identifying his experience with search and rescue to the rest. Adding to the conversation, she raised her hand. "If I may be so bold to make a suggestion, M'lords.." coming forward a bit, "..our priority should be to save as many people as we can afford to find, as quickly as possible, would a divide of the company be within your range of consideration? Perhaps we could face both of these sectors simultaneously. If not, going after those who would die by execution would certainly take my vote." Making a military salute she concluded and stayed silent.
Regula took in the additional information, as well as all the suggestions by whomever this master Peng was. The way he was acting, he seemed to be in charge of what was happening here. “Normally I'd hate to muddy my gear, but your plans seem solid, so I'm willing to give it a go, but I'd also like to suggest an alternative...” She replied, thinking about the rest of the plans and what she'd change about them. “I've enchanted my boots to let me sense vibrations of everything that moves in a 10 mile radius and they allow me be fast and agile enough to reach any part in the city in a flash, before citizens would even good and well realise what passed them by. It shouldn't be too difficult for me to rush at suspicious movements to go and confirm if they're enemies or not. If you'd want, I could even open up a Pocket Dimension to bring along those brave enough to enter it. Thanks to this...” She held up her gun. “... and my other gear, I'm fairly confident in my ability to engage any hostile factions. Alternatively, the enchantments on my boots would allow me to scale that obelisk looking tower as well, to try and snipe from there, but the smoke might make it too difficult for me to spot enemies.”
All things considered, she was eager to start on something, whether that be healing or engaging enemies, but she wasn't rude enough to start acting on her own. That said, she wasn't patient enough to discuss tactics endlessly either. “I'm more than capable and willing to rush in and put up a fight with any bad actors still around. If Michael and Aria tag along, we should be able to get rid of them in no-time. Once we get them out of the way, we'll be able to rescue survivors uninterrupted. I've never tried it in practice, but the magic on my cloak should be strong enough to even bring back the recently deceased, assuming they're not missing any vital organs, so be sure to drag those out as well. Just give me a 'go ahead' and I'll be on my way.”
As for Michael's reply, it made her nod. “Ah, my bad.” She wondered if folk would really just assume they were tattoos, but perhaps she was just biased as a blacksmith/enchanter to see them clearly for what they were. She replied to him with an equally low voice. “We were already picked up by someone from Full Clarity, turns out I really do have some noble blood. Thanks for your work. I'd have thanked you sooner, but we couldn't confirm where you went afterwards. Some rumours that you went missing in action even spread, but I'm glad those were incorrect.”
On the topic of healing, she noticed they were bringing the wounded elsewhere. Luckily enough, the [Safe Zone] ability on her cloak lasted a fair while, so all she'd have to do to use it was to move over to where it'd be in range. “Ah, they're bringing in more wounded. I'll be right back, just shout at me if you want me to rush in or offer an alternative.”
She moved over to where Finn and Kristina brought the wounded whilst her [Safe Zone B] was still active to ensure it covered the area. She royally ignored Thorrin, as she wasn't sure who or what he was and wasn't eager to start something obnoxious amidst this chaos. However, there was one sight she couldn't easily ignore. Like Finn, she was drawn to that extremely fluffy looking tail and couldn't help herself from wondering if it would be as soft as it looked. As she let the magic on her cloak do the work around her, her eyes kept inadvertently being drawn to it.
Retili Loxinofican
Location: The Thorne Barony, Camp
Mentioned: LadyOfStars LadyOfStars Torrin Dante Verren Dante Verren Peng
Retili had spent the better part of his time in the camp at the census table directing efforts with the scribes there. He turned from his position at the impromptu table with ink and paper about him as the survivors trickled in. Far too few for that to be a good sign. He had only counted twenty so far as they arrived at the camp and many of those were wounded. His report to Linneus did not look like it was going to be optimistic in outlook. Fires had scarred the towns and destroyed the land. The disaster had ripped through the province quite biblically. He had seen bodies of the dead even as they had made their way to the current campsite. Folding his hands inside of his dark robes Retili stood and looked at the other census workers at the table. "Continue working, I must check in with the quartermaster." His tone was soft as usual, but there was a note that would warn them he would brook no argument. Not at the moment at least. He turned away from the table and the dull yellow of his pupils lit upon several people making their way to the tent of the quartermaster, including one in a blue hood. As he approached at a brisk pace he found himself raising an eyebrow at a familiar condescending tone coming from the tent.
As Retili entered the tent he pulled back the hood, happy to finally be able to remove the hood and veil. He had thought to almost ask if a pavilion could be set up at the census table but had held back. The people of the Thorne barony would need every resource at their disposal and wasting a pavilion on a table because he felt uncomfortable was unnecessary. If he was a noble or an officer for Linneus like Peng he might have insisted just to keep up appearances, but he was not. He listened to most of what Peng said as he entered. His lips parted in a slight hiss of displeasure when he saw Torrin. Ignoring the other strangers in the room for a moment, he made his way to stand beside Peng. It was difficult to make Retili upset, but an outright lie would be enough to make him so. "Quartermaster Peng I am sorry to interrupt but more survivors have arrived. I would suggest we put any of the uninjured to work inside the camp for now once they have rested. Most of them do not look as though they would last long on their own and we could do with fortifying the perimeter, digging latrines, setting up shelters and the like. It would keep most of them occupied productively so they don't get in the way of the rescue efforts. Kill two birds with one stone so to speak." He stayed silent after that and looked over the different demarked zones on the map. For now he would stay in the tent and try to advise Peng, particularly against whatever foolish way Torrin was planning to interfere. There were words that Retili intended to have with the man after this meeting was through. Torrin's judgement was clearly clouded on this matter.
Rowan Thorn
Rowan surveyed the others, waiting for instruction from the Quartermaster. Personally, she hated standing still and not doing something when she could help, but there were too many lives for her to go all willy-nilly into the fray when she had little knowledge of the area. She could listen when needed, and act when needed, but the Quartermaster had to give her a task first. Though she wouldn't worry- looking around at the chaos, she knew she was needed, that she wasn't wasting her time waiting for an order. "My name is Rowan Thorn no relation to the barony as far as I know. Apologies for the late introduction, Quartermaster." Rowan said, realizing she hadn't actually spent the time to introduce herself. As far as she knew, her last name being the same as this barony was just a coincidence.
Hera was glad to be of use to the relief effort in whatever capacity and that included risking her life. "I am here to serve, Master Peng. If this is the best plan then I will carry it out as you command." She wouldn't let the fear and doubt get to her when she was being relied upon to do her part. "This area of the city here is farmland, vacant save for a few lingering animals." She said as she pointed to the western side of the city map. "Entering through there may be the safest option. And the residential area is to the south of it. With the commercial district to the north. With the castle being in the center, it is difficult to travel without feeling that...aura." Chills ran up the scout's spine as she thought back to that dark feeling that seemed to surround her whenever she was flying over the city.
She liked the silver-haired woman's idea of splitting up the force, but couldn't support the entire plan. "Those most in danger are nearest the castle and the area is heavily guarded. It may be best to wait for military support for such an attack."
1665768578236.png
Torrin listened to the plan and noticed that no mention was made of saving his sister. He didn't know if that was intentional or not, but he was furious and he wished the Count was here to be a victim of his wrath. It was his orders that limited the search for the baroness and his word alone could change that. But then Peng inquired about his sister, although his line of questioning seemed to be painting his sister as the cause of this trouble. "My sister is not responsible...." He wanted to protect her good name, but when Peng's questions sunk in he started to think back to what he knew of her. "Actually." He looked to the others in the tent and then back to Peng. "She has always had a fixation on magic and...other planes of existence." He confessed. "I have not seen her in some time since I joined COunt Light's court, so I cannot say for sure what has been happening here and two weeks before the explosion, she stopped writing to me." Dark thoughts surfaced in the advisor's mind and he began to worry for her safety all over again.
"My sister is the victim here quartermaster and she should be treated with as care as any of these peasants. The search for her should be the highest priority as she can give us answers we do not yet have." Torrin was surprised to see Retili enter the tent. He hadn't expected the scribe to actually journey to the frontlines. He was a fool. But what was more interesting was the person who introduced themselves and shared the same last name as he and his siblings. Surely there was no relation.
"So what is your plan Quartermaster? When do you act?" Torrin asked. It seemed to him this was just some big party with people standing around talking and no one moving to save the city.
Regula's ability would encompass the new arrivals, treating their wounds and mending their bodies. The volunteers medics were surprised, grateful, and very impressed by the sudden recovery of their patients. Even the people working the check in table were feeling better too. Retili's instruction that they keep working was responded to with quick nods as the scribed went back to journaling the names of the survivors that were just arriving.
His head nodded slowly as he listened to each individual voice there opinion or share what ever information they had. Ultimately it was Torrin's final question that caused Peng to speak. "We act now." Peng reached to his belt and grabbed his wand where it rested. Pulling it free he raised it and began to use it as a visual guide as he moved it along the map. "We shall start as a unified group and enter into the farmland all on foot. "He tapped the farmland on the map with his wand. "Once we make it halfway into the farmland we will split into two groups. The splinter group will consist of Michael, Aria, and the one who suggested the idea. I do not know her name but you three seem to know each other. I will put my faith in the pre-existing relationship and trust you can handle this." Peng then slid his wand towards the south directing at the residential area. "Disguise yourselves using the dirt, dust, and whatever else you can find on your way down. I don't want you to make a flashy entrance. Once you make it into the district do what you can to save as many people without being detected by the enemy. Once you are discovered you may engage them using your own discretion. If at any point you feel you have rescued enough of the civilians or start to feel worn down retreat to the farmland and rest. We must avoid exhausting ourselves, otherwise we will be putting ourselves at risk and by extension putting the lives of the people we are trying to rescue in even greater peril."
Once he finished he turned his wand northwards and dragged it back to the farm lands, then up to the commercial district. "Rowan, Hera and the rest of you" He looked up at Finn and Kristina "Will be under my personal supervision. We will make our way into the commercial district. Once we reach the outskirts Hera will take flight and begin to scout out the area." It was here he turned his attention to Hera. "Locate clusters of enemies but do not react to them, instead fly in a space adjacent to them and act as if you are directing a group of soldiers. If they act the way I suspect they will either try and shoot you down or follow you to try and ambush your ghost soldiers. If possible keep groups of enemies apart, the last thing we need is for a larger group to form and them to stumble on us by accident." Once more he turned his attention back to the larger group. "Once we reach the commercial district itself we will begin our search and rescue. If you grow tired or run out of resources inform me immediately and we retreat to reequipped and revaluate the situation."
Peng took a deep breath, "The enemy is reported as canine like beast and a force of human foot soldiers. If the soldiers are enemy soldiers, try and capture a few so we can use them to extract information. If you are not able to capture them then show them no mercy. With the knowledge the Baroness's addiction to possibly dangerous magic there exist the possibility of these enemies being conjure beings. If they are then don't waste the effort to capture any. Worst case scenario the magic is in fact mind control and these are innocent soldiers. Unlikely as it is if this is the case then avoid killing them if you can, but if you have to feel no guilt. You will be putting them out of their misery. Lastly avoid any and all contact with the castle in the center. At this stage we do not have enough information and any attempt to breach that area would be suicide. We will make the Baroness are top priority the moment we have enough information to handle the center. If there are no other questions or suggestion then we will begin immediately. "
Finally Peng turned to the court Scribe. "Master Retil. You are welcome to come with us or remain in camp. Before we leave instruct your men not to give any of the refugees any hard labor or difficult task on the same day they arrive. Light work or jobs is fine but the least these people have earned is a day of rest for what they have survived. Morale will fall as well if people arrive just to see the other survivors are being forced to work when they are still so badly beaten.
Regula was pretty darn proud to see her cloak do the work, as the newly brought in wounded folk all recovered. “You're welcome~” She'd say, replying to every show of gratitude with a wide and cheerful smile. She should've made something like this ages ago, or perhaps she should start making hospital visits from now on? It was an interesting thought. Surely if she ends up healing half the country's populace, she'd have a lot of support among them upon descending the throne. For now, this city would prove itself to be a great testing ground for such an approach.
For now, however, there was other work to be done. Upon making sure the last of the patients was healed, she returned to listen to Peng's instructions. Sadly enough, he wanted to with the rest and adhere to the plan, not wishing to make a deal out of it. She'd get her time to make plans before long, so for now, she'd be a team-player. Besides, he went along with her idea to split up, which was good enough. “It's Regula.” She'd state her name again, as he suggested them to go south. She was fairly eager to be out in the field again, this time with Aria and Michael.
That eagerness faded a bit as they started heading for the city. With... a surprising amount of reluctance, she managed to bring herself to squat down and dragged her cloak through a puddle of mud along the road. The worst part? It didn't even work well. It wasn't easy to just muddy up such a fancy metal-threaded cloak and make it seem like cheap rags. At least someone looking for afar might be confused, for a moment, perhaps? Well, either way, with pained heart she'd put in the effort to get muddied up. “Linneus is going to owe me for this...” She mumbled under her breath, having to dirty the gear she maintained and cleaned so vigorously for a plan that might not even pan out well.
Upon arriving closer to the city, just before the two groups were to split up, she'd activate [Tremorsense C] (sensing vibrations in the ground in a 1 mile radius) and tell both groups of whatever she'd learn about the movements going on within the city. After all, it'd be a huge help in figuring out where enemies might be running around and where citizens might still be in need of rescue, even if they were out of sight. OOC:(Gonna need LadyOfStars LadyOfStars to fill in what information Regula would be able to find out and share.) It'd also, hopefully, help locating folks that needed saving. “If someone is in trouble, try to give me a signal. I'm not lying when I say I can move through-out most of the city in a flash if need-be.” She made sure to state that once again, wishing to make it clear that she'd try to have the other's backs wherever they'd go or end up.
That said... As they were heading towards the district itself with just the three of them, Regula spoke up, although a bit at a hushed voice. “I understand and agree with saving people, but I must admit I'd like to face off against whomever did this to the city and see which of that quartermaster's theories is true. If they're conjured beings or mind-controlled soldiers or something. If I had to put my money on something, I'd say they're either summoned by the baroness' dark magic gone wrong or folks from some sort of cult that got a bit too interested in what she's up too. What do you two thing?”
"...Bugger me... the lad actually thinks any of this is sitting in folks heads...? it's gonna go out the window the moment a fight actually breaks out.." Finn scratches his head, looking abit unsure this Peng person has ever actually been in a fight. "...That Hera girl gonna get shot the hell down if the enemy has any wherewithal to draw a damn bow.. Diversion tactics only work if you have a diversion to start with... At that point just tell the group where the hell the enemy is and let the swords do the talking..." Finn didn't bother waiting up and moved out of the tent, it was getting crowded anyways.
"Those with that tactician lets move, we don't have all day. And the enemy sure as hell ain't gonna wait. Nor am I if you slack, if your a warrior you should be able to pick yourself up and get moving we got folks out there who can't fight for themselves." he motioned with a quick wave, before heading out of the tent. "At least hes thinking ahead, more than most folks in a panic.."
~~~~~

Wherever they land in the commercial district, Finn would be takeing in the sights, smells and utter blaze around... Yep, the smells of a war. "Well, certainly a new hellscape. Fires certainly rampant, heres hoping it'll rain soon to deal with it..." the armored man cracked his neck. "Can't help but wonder why, if folks intend to take a location, they always think of fire first. Sure it's handy, but you end up needing to repair what you've just broken. more oft then not... If I was an invading force I certainly wouldn't use it first..."

The hedgeknight gave abit of thought, before considering the surroundings. "..Well? Anybody know this place? or am I just going to need to walk forwards and deal with being lost in a burning township? if it's an emergency act like it and get hoppin to it. Less we wait the more folks we save."

Aria crosses her arms as she observed the interactions between Peng the obvious strategist and Torrin the tightly wound noble. Assuming he was indeed the latter by revealing her relationship with the baroness. When mentioned by name, Arias back straightened, shifted her weight to the side and focused on the wand pointing at the map. “Hmm, very well.” she sighed, however stealing a glance at Regula, specifically at the thought of getting dirty on purpose. But if it meant they’d save the people trapped inside then it was only a minor inconvenience.

Exiting the tent, she placed a hand on Finns plated shoulder. “Nervous?” She teased as he began to question the strategy everyone seemed to agree and put in motion. “If things don’t go as planned, we can just improvise.” She chuckled softly, and nodded. “Be careful out there, Sir Finn.”

And with that, she started towards the city, only stopping at some point when Regula thought it appropriate to get purposefully muddied. “Ugh..” she protested, “..why do I bother washing my clothes?” She asked as her friend began to smear her elegant cloak on the muddied water. “I have a feeling, Master Peng was amused to suggest this.” Surrendering any further hesitation before laying down on the muddiest patch of farmland. Watching the smoke clouds go by, making a ‘mud angel’ on the ground. Then finally rolling onto her front, and standing back up again. She spat a bit and shook off any excess. “I suppose I can pretend to be a lowly beggar like this..” suddenly feeling the spontaneity to arch her back forward, whilst pretending to hold a cane and closing an eye. But only briefly. "..what do you think?"

As they started towards the city, Regula began to speak, inquiring as to what sort of enemies could await within. “Hmm. Summoned fiends is certainly a good guess.. I’d say they’re either hired by an opposing nation, or some kind of coup from within..” Perhaps it was her previous life’s trauma that made her think this way. "..this smells of betrayal. If you ask me."

TLDR: Michael will go with Peng's direction, ponders the status on Hera while accompanying Regula and Aria, proposes River approach

Michael didn't see anything too particularly shocking. There was this itching feeling that there were more like him in the area. The odd items carried by some of the people in the tent for example seemed out of place and style for the country. Ryke was known for its trade, but the items that came in through the ports still adhered to a certain level of technology and style. Despite how odd Michael appeared, even his look would somewhat fit in with the residents of The Duchy. Meanwhile, some of the people in the room had stat information or items that just didn't fit. It made him ponder [god] and the why of all this, but then he saw Hera's status and was concerned.

Hera's Fell Blight affliction was only temporary but it gave Michael a pause. While curious what the Fell Blight was and would use skills if he had to try and discern additional information, the idea that there was a mass magic sapping effect on a region of the town had not yet been reported as far as Michael could tell. The idea that they go charging into the city and suddenly found they have reduced power and ability by surprise would seem disastrous. It was something he would share with Regular and Aria as it seemed they were both users of magic in their own way.

"I noticed that aerial had a debuff on her that weakened her magic. Likely, she got it flying over Yemaya. May be best to assume anything you have that is reliant on magic won't work or won't work as effectively,"

Michael told Regular and Aria as they were playing in the mud. While Michael had kept pace with the girls and eventually split off with them, he had no interest in pretending to be a mud guppy. Instead, he turned his gaze to the fields before them and the town beyond. According to the map and somewhat visible to Michael, there should have been a river running through the town and a segment of the river that would branch off into the southern district with the residential area. It was fall and most of the fields were already harvested. There seemed to be little point in wallowing in mud if they were seen entering the town, 3 mud golems trudging through open fields.

"It seems you have already soiled yourselves enough, but I wonder if you would be open to the idea of taking a swim instead? the river would provide us more cover than trying to camouflage ourselves with mud. May be slightly cleaner as well?"

Michael had no delusions what rivers through towns were used for at that time, but his gamble was the destruction of the town would send people to flight rather than performing their morning rituals in the water and so perhaps the water would run clearer for them. Regardless of the girls decision, he would likely take the river route. He wasn't as buoyant as he used to be due to the mithril but he no longer needed to breath as much as he used to nor did the murky water impede his vision and senses (both in water and out). He would attempt to sell the women on the idea,

"I also recall some of the enemy may be beastmen. Their keen senses may pick up on us easier on land than in the water. May allow us to be a bit more subtle in our approach and avoidance of the enemy until we properly ascertain the situation too. When crawling through a city, you never know what may come up behind you. "

Michael wasn't confident in the idea, but the water may also be one of the routes most were taking in or out of town aside from the gates. It felt like it had sufficient reason to be his approach at least. He also just didn't want to get muddy and dirty and was trying to justify it. He would rather be soaked instead. His new body also gave him some reprieve from the cold.

Retili Loxinofican
Location: The Thorne Barony, Camp
Mentioned: LadyOfStars LadyOfStars Torrin Dante Verren Dante Verren Peng

Retili would opt to stay in camp, though Peng seemed to imply that he should come with them. He was happy to send second hand accounts of the actual fighting back to Linneus. He had a sort of sense of deja vu that told him that if he went into combat he wouldn't fare well. At best he would be a hindrance, at worst he might become some sort of pin cushion for arrows. Possibly poisoned ones. So Retili would stay in camp. Aside from that if Peng went with them their would be no one in charge at the camp. He turned his gaze on Torrin. "Master Thorne, what a surprise to see you here, particularly given the fact that you had stated your intent to stay behind and advise our Lord Light." He casually threw the barb at the man and then strode out of the tent, pulling back up the hood and veil. He would make his way to the nearest officer of the guard detail that came with them. Someone clearly needed to take charge before anarchy took hold of the camp. "Begin to assign work details to the camp. Get the survivors in the camp in order. Get some new shelters built for them and dig some more latrines. Pull in some of them to help, but only those who aren't wounded. If you haven't already post sentries twenty meters out from the camp. Anyone not on duty needs to be resting or eating, otherwise they work for now." He paused for a moment and then spoke again. "Also get me two of your best riders. I need to send a message to the General and Lord Light urgently. Tell them to meet me at the census table." With that Retili returned to the table where the scribes were and began writing a message to Baron Shimeji and the Count. It was simple. "Situation Urgent. Entire City destroyed. Reinforcements and supplies needed immediately." Retili signed then sealed both letters with wax. As soon as the messengers arrived he would pass off the letter with instructions on where to deliver each of the letters and to set off as soon as was possible. With any luck the letters would reach the Count and Baron quickly. Perhaps they could expediate their arrival or send a vanguard. Now finished Retili decided he would make himself useful and search their surroundings for useful herbs and plants to supplements any medical supplies they had.

Regula

Although Regula had been somewhat conservative getting muddied, Aria had really gone all-out with it. “Truthfully? I think we still stand out a lot and that the quartermaster just wanted to test how far we're willing to go at this point.” She wasn't exactly happy. “I doubt it's a case of betrayal, although perhaps the baroness was used from the get-go.”

When Michael suggest an alternative, he was met with a few seconds of silence. “Should've suggested that first...” She muttered, before sighing. “Well, I guess I'll be testing out if the water movement enchantment on my boots can hold up. Let's go for the river.” She was quick to agree, also glad she'd only put her cloak through the mud and hadn't gone full pig-style like Aria. She'd rather get wet instead dirty.
