Graded [Frontier] A Heart For This Home

sample-5b261ea066fc087713643606a77c158b.jpgAs Tia struggled with herself, chaos broke out in the village. In what felt like mere moments screams bellowed out from the people. They ran clutching children and stumbling over each other. Before long the scent of blood began to fill Tia's nose. She saw other humans wielding weapons and armor rushing to where the shouts and blood were coming from. From the men that ran through the chaos Tia could pick up utterings of "Monsters". She had heard the term before from Ceylan, and knew it wasn't anything good. It's what humans called the things that hunted and killed them; the most dangerous of creatures.

Humans were dieing. Tia could tell, the sounds and smell suffused her. Her instinctual urges flared in response. Her breathing grew erratic and ragged. Using her spear as a crutch she dragged herself forward. Every step was a battle. "Staystaystaystay..." She continued to repeat the words of Ceylan, despite them she felt at any moment she would explode. She was afraid. What would Ceylan think of her? What would happen to her when she fell apart? Tia's identity had been built by her connection to her packmates, to her family. With them gone, if she caved to her instincts, who would she be? In his final moments. He had spoke of so much, perhaps more than he ever had before. Tia had listened. There was so much she didn't understand then and even now so much eluded her.

There was the sound of raspy inhuman voices. She could smell them before she saw them. Monsters that flew upon the air. Not too far ahead of her she could see them attacking the humans using some sort of energy. If he were still here what would he tell her? He was always so afraid, but he was kind and despite his fear he had a strength she had not understood. He was a part of her now, she had made sure of it. What would he do? There was an alignment. A convergence between Tia's humanity and inhumanity. She would have to partially break her promise to Ceylan, but she couldn't contain herself anymore. At the very least she would make sure to stay Tia, no matter what. [Consumation of Flesh] Her arm shot out latching onto one of the flying Monsters. If her mouth could water it would, anticipation welled up in her at the prospect of a "meal". She tunnel visioned focusing only on her prey and nothing else. The tendril that had formed from her arm wasn't quite long enough to both catch the Monster and wrap fully around it. She could manage, that just meant it would get messy. Teeth formed along the tendril biting down into the Monster as she squeezed. Cutting into it with the full intent of consuming the thing. She didn't even have to use her mouth, just break it up a bit and her body will do the rest.
  • Consumation of Flesh- Elasticity F, Retractable Claws, Devour E - Tia wraps her arm around a target transforming it into a tentacle that fully envelopes them(so long as 12 feet is enough length to surround them). Then forms teeth on the inside cutting her prey apart and taking them into her body. - Grade E - 0/1

Achu (#435FFF)

"Stay safe too, big sis. You can probably hold your own, but you never know out there." Achu hummed back to the tree-lady with an energetic smile.

Slithering his way downtown, he watched as first blood was drawn and the first kill was made, by the multi-eyed monster and Zolgen respectively. Whistling by the corner of a house, he secretly applauded them both in admiration, though he got a bit worried as more humans went to help the knight and the guards surrounded Zolgen with their spears.

"They'll... be fine, right? They charged in knowing this would happen?" He pondered, tilting his head. It seemed the tree-lady had no plans on assisting Zolgen despite his request, but the other monster's red little rascals started diving in to save the day.

Just as Achu grew unconcerned and was about to sneak towards a market stall, who's owners had abandoned just moments prior, a foreign red tendril suddenly lashed out at one of the berbalangs, squeezing the life out of it. The white refractions and blood spilling out also hinted at its sharp appendages. If he could not see the source, he would've assumed the red vine was another appendage of his multi-eyed brother. Instead, it traced back to the most unassuming little human girl.

What a good disguise. Was Achu's first honest thought, thinking how much fun and chaos he could have with such a form. But recalling that she was hindering the fun of his new siblings, he felt compelled to slither on over. He did have his grudges against those imp-like berbalangs, but since he had somewhat aligned himself with their leader he had no choice but to speak up.

Although she clearly chose to strike a fellow monster, Achu had some hope that she might want to join the family. Maybe she was just lashing out since they had invaded/ruined her hunting grounds? Who knows, but he still felt an amiable approach would be best for now.

"Hey, uh, you're kinda strangling a friend of my big bro, can you not?" He tilted his head, looking up at the vicious and ravenous looking beast that once appeared so harmless and human.

Zolgen
Zolgen would have smirked if he was capable of it, his main way to communicate emotions was through tone and sound of voice. It felt so good to strike down the first puny human, it made him feel so powerful to cause the death of something he used to kill in the past world, it was practically euphoric for him, the sense of control, deciding who lived and died just like that. He was going to enjoy feeding after their victory on the guards of this village, even if he only got to kill them and everyone else escaped, while that would be frustrating as long as he got to feed, kill and maim that was enough of a first step for him.

He then retorted in an unnatural sounding common. "You'll all fall like the first, all of you coming for me gives the others a chance to feed!" He proclaimed ominously as they came at him.

He saw pretty quickly he was getting surrounded. Strategically it might have been better if he helped out Shuten with his fight, with the knight, but he still wanted to respect Shuten's capabilities at the moment, if he was having a hard time still when Zolgen was done dealing with this bunch then he probably would. The thought of him dying hadn't even crossed his mind, even when he was outnumbered he was too emboldened by the first blood.

He then saw the dark bolts coming down from the sky from the flying beings that Shuten had, yes that would help him get out of this situation as he tried to guessistmate where they were going to land on who and wear, hoping the accuracy in his guess would be enough. Despite not thinking he was going to die, he knew that he needed to minimize at least some of the hits he was about to take if he did nothing. Of course he noticed the tendrils attempt to strike one of the flying ones.

What are they thinking?! He'd think to himself. Don't they realize if they help us we can all feed? Assuming it was a fellow monster based on the organic blur, unless it was some kind of magic from a fae or human he was unfamilar with.

He would first attempt to lop off the spear thrusting arm of the one closest to him who he didn't think was going to get hit by the bolt since only four were coming, while they were in the process of trying to stab him, using

Demonic Cleaver Sword #1 E (14) A large sword scaled for a demon, designed more for slashing and chopping rather than stabbing. (1/3)

Regardless if that action was successful or not, he'd then follow up by trying to strike them in the neck to decapitate swiftly after with

Demonic Cleaver Sword #2 F (7) A large sword scaled for a demon, designed more for slashing and chopping rather than stabbing. (2/3)

Even if some of their attacks landed he'd make his best attempt to make an aggressive mad dash forward towards the person who he tried to hit, in an effort to break out of their encirclement, and get of range of some of the attempted strikes with Speed E (3/3)

Bathory | EB6B56
  • Being a monster was no easy task. Bathory learned this lesson the difficult way as she spent her last few days on the run. If it weren't villagers that chased after her, it was some kind of young adventurer or mercenary trying to make a name for themselves. Even when keeping to herself, harming no one, Bathory was still seen as an existence that had to be snuffed out by all means. All this stemming from being caught scavenging on some random corpse in the forest. Fortunately, those that came after her were of the simpleminded variety. Relying on nothing but their brawn and bravado, Bathory's elusiveness and wit seemed sufficient enough to prevent herself from getting captured, or worse, slain. Being able to fly, coupled with her size, made hiding near effortless. And with her ability to mimic sounds, Bathory was more than capable of making her pursuers go around in circles.

All she wanted was some piece and quiet to contemplate on her thoughts, but whenever she had idle time to herself, disturbances would manage to find her and bother her day away. It was a very frustrating experience that caused resentment and vexation to brew inside Bathory's fickle mind. As she was nestled away atop a tree branch, the silence she had just recently started to enjoy was abruptly broken by incessant clamor from a nearby village. Frequently, Bathory's response to such noise was to simply fly away and try again somewhere else. However, what she heard this time around piqued her interest. It was an uproar from the humans that suggested something dreadful was taking place.

"Serves them right." She scoffed. Taking flight, she decided to get closer to the commotion. If things were as dire as it sounded, Bathory certainly wanted to witness it first hand.

Perched on top of the roof of the village watchtower, Bathory was pleasantly surprised by the scene she was witnessing. Not one or two monsters, but close to at least four, were terrorizing the human village. Since she was brought to this world, Bathory had never encountered others like her. Although they varied in appearance, she felt an instinctive kinship towards them. Never did she foresee that she would find other monsters so soon. Seeing them begin their assault, Bathory's heart began to race. Was what she felt elation for the punishment she believed humans deserved for how they treated her? Or was it something more primal in nature? Maybe an inherent inclination of wanting to see those from different races suffer under their hands. Regardless of what the reason was, Bathory had decided that she was going to contribute to the chaos that was transpiring. Unlike her more violent and capable brethren, Bathory was small and frail. Trying her best not to reveal herself, she hid her presence and carefully stalked the civilians that were instructed to flee.

"Oh, no. We can't have that." She smirked, gently shaking her head from side to side in disapproval.

Panic and fear worked wonders when one wanted to cloud the mind. Decisions became foolish and hurried as one's priorities became simple and one-tracked. At least that's what Bathory believed. Flying above the escaping villagers close enough for her words to be heard, Bathory took a deep breath, her chest expanding briefly before yelling out loud. Through [Trickery], her voice convincingly became similar to one of the spear-wielding guards that had warned them of the monsters.

"Turn back! Turn back! Monsters from the rear!" Some of the humans may have caught on or were wary of the warning from Bathory, but given how pressing their situation was, most were probably too distressed to even think properly.

"Head to the village gates! We'll make you an opening to runaway!"

The knight and guards had the advantage in numbers. Bathory believed that it wasn't fair that they could abuse this to simply overwhelm their foes. The burden of having to watch out for innocent civilians might be what was needed to even out the playing field.

Leoric
"Go, feast on the living, brothers." A cold command from an armored figure was all it took to send her undead soldiers into a frenzy.

Leoric smirked sinisterly as her warriors emerged from the forest behind her, banging their blades against their shields before letting out baleful roars.

"Ah, music to my ears."

Without a hint of hesitation, Leoric's vanguard leaped forward, making their way towards the human village.

"The rest of you." Leoric turned to her craftsmen. "Deal with the stragglers." Unlike her soldiers, the rest of her followers were not warriors. This was not to say that they were useless. What they lacked in strength, they made up with undying perseverance. Against a well-abled human, they stood no chance, but against the injured, they were certainly a threat.

Trailing behind her minions, she got a better view of what was going on. Two monstrous beings were ahead of her, the likely culprits of the ensuing chaos. Leoric wanted to capitalize on the opportunity in front of her given how unlikely coordinated monster attacks were.

"Leave none alive!" Growling in response to their master's words, the zombie warriors scattered, separating into three groups. A pair rushed into the village, hoping to cut down whoever came in their way. Two others remained, joining the demonic monster, Zolgen. With their attention focused on the demon, the zombie warriors would approach the human guards from their rear, striking from their blind spots, hoping to deal Crippling Blows to the foolish mortals. The last undead soldier headed towards the feral being known as Shuten-Doji.

Out of the humans that were holding their own against the monsters, the armored knight caught Leoric's attention. She presumed that he was their leader, or at least the most skilled among them. Taking him out would reduce not only their fighting strength, but moral as well. Pulling out her blade, Leoric charged forward.

"Brother, tear the ground asunder!"

Once close enough, the undead soldier would drive his sword into the ground, delivering a Shattering Strike, and sending a ground-ripping shockwave towards the knight.

Instead of following her minion from behind, Leoric chose to run to the side before circling their opponent. Having to fight against multiple foes from different angles was difficult even for the most talented warrior. Whether the zombie's attack would hit its mark or not, Leoric planned to take advantage of the opening it would create to land a decisive blow against their armored foe.

  • Zombie A and Zombie B heads into the village to indiscriminately attack any living creature that is not a monster. This includes civilians and guards.
  • Zombie C and Zombie D will assist Zolgen and used Crippling Blow, each targeting a different guard.
  • Zombie E and Leoric will join Shuten-Doji. Zombie E used Shattering Strike while Leoric circled the knight before rushing in for a slash.

Skills Used
  • (0/1) Crippling Blow - Fighting Style E [Sword], Accurate F, Penetrate F - A swing that is both swift and heavy, meant for breaking through weapons and armor alike. It treats the target's speed as though it were reduced by 1 letter grade and ignore grades (by 1 letter grade) of an item when it is used to defend - Grade E - 1 Post Cooldown
  • (0/2) Shattering Strike - Fighting Style D [Sword], Accurate F, Penetrate F, Quake F - A monstrous strike that has enough force to create a shockwave that erupts towards a target across the ground, leaving a a 10 feet deep fissure in its wake. It treats the target's speed as though it were reduced by 1 letter grade and ignore grades (by 1 letter grade) of an item when it is used to defend - Grade D - 2 Post Cooldown

Maikoa Groave
1660705877744.png
Maikoa watched the ensuing chaos, humming a little as she heard the mimic voice, wondering what monsters could be coming here that were not members of their little entourage. However, this led her mind to believe, perhaps this meeting was indeed some higher providence of the natural mother, seeking to unite the kin of shadow. She simply gazed upon the city and her brethren, stepping softly towards shuten, watching his battle with her quiet gaze, gently grabbing the fruit at her hip. "Be embraced by the mothers [Entangling Roots]." She said, touching the ground as roots sprouted up around the knight, holding him still for Shuten's attacks, doing her job of assisting her brethren in their battles.

Her gaze looked upon the zombies now storming the village, a quiet smile crossing her face, understanding that this was no chance meeting of all her kin uniting in striking at this village.

The guards were caught off guard by the sudden arrival of the zombies, with the first guard that Zolgen struck at losing his arm with a cry, however, his gaze steeled as he caught his spear with his remaining arm, catching his fall with his foot and thrusting towards Zolgen, a strike towards his chest landing true, as Zolgen's blade was on his companion, who had leaped back from the decapitating strike, but was slashed upon the chest from the massive slash.

The townsfolk panicked at the voice, all beginning to run back towards the gate, however, this was with only one exception, a large bear of a man holding a woman and presumably his children, glaring at the voice, before turning away, running to the East, the only angle without a monster covering it, taking his family along with him, while the other villagers began to run towards the fray without realizing it was all just a trap. The Villagers screamed upon seeing Tia's strike, all scattering around like panicked ants, unaware of where they should go or what they should do, all trying to scatter and 'Every Man For Themselves' it.

Leorics zombies would find themselves bringing down easy prey, as the guards were now the ones overwhelmed with numbers, being cut down from behind by the Crippling Strikes, and shot with Darkness Beams, all of them struggling to attack the monsters to buy the villagers time.

Shuten would find the knight being struck solidly by his minions attack, as the knight was entangled by the roots, before he mustered his strength to break free, turning to the zombie approaching from behind and carving it in half with his parrying knife, before striking back at Shuten with a large swing of his blade, slashing the large cat-like monster across his leg, beneath the large arms the big beast was using to block. He was struck in the side by Leorics blade, panting as he was bleeding all over, his eyes gazing through his helmet at the monsters he was surrounded by. However, even with the valiant fight the knight was putting up, he was likely only one solid strike away from falling.

1665333420241.pngShuten-Doji

So much had began to happen around them and while he had his arms raised to defend himself, Shuten-Doji used his other eyes to survey the area. He saw Zolgen fighting hard against the soldiers and his pets coming to their aide. He spotted a winged creature not too far away and noticed that the humans were coming this way. They weren't the only group that were headed towards the chaos though. In army of undead it seemed were making their way to the fight and luckily enough they were joining his group.

What caught Shuten-Doji off guard the most is that something had attacked one of his pets and successfully killed the creature. He wanted to find whatever was responsible, but he had to fend off the knight still. He saw the man break free of the bindings that Maikoa had placed upon him and then attempted to strike at him again. Shuten-Doji growled and jumped at the knight, unafraid and hungry. His claws swiped at the knight, trying to tear into his chest and face. "Lacerate"

The minions were distraught over the sudden death of their kin and swiftly went to pursue their attacker. They saw Tia devouring their kin and didn't hesitate to start attacking her. Again they called upon their magic. "Darkness Beam!" The four beams were aimed at Tia, raining darkness down at her.

Bathory | EB6B56
  • When overwhelmed with emotion, even the brightest and calmest of minds could become clouded. Like strings on a marionette, the townsfolk moved as Bathory wanted them to. Believing her voice to be one of their own, they voluntarily made their way to the epicenter of the chaos that had blessed them that day. Only a few managed to see through Bathory's trickery, but the harpy cared not. Instead, she headed towards the village gates, hoping to get a better view of the slaughter that was taking place.

Perched up atop a straw roof, Bathory was welcomed by quite the sight. Monsters of all kind surrounded her. Demonic abominations, primal beasts, the walking dead, and...a slime? Why these creatures had gathered on this particular day was something Bathory could not figure out. But she did not dwell on this thought. She was merely thankful for such an opportunity.

As much as she wanted to establish some sort of kin-like rapport with the monsters, the situation didn't call for it. Unable to contribute to the actual slaughtering, Bathory simple sat back and enjoyed the gruesome view in front of her.

sample-5b261ea066fc087713643606a77c158b.jpg Tearing into the Monster with her tendril Tia watched it plummet out the sky. She kept a hold of it as it hit the ground she could feel it try to struggle against her hold, but it's frantic movements only served to wound itself further, and invigorate her. Her body started to break it apart ripping into it's flesh and dissembling it piece by piece. Chunks were taken out of the creature and consumed by Tia as she retracted her tendril dragging it towards her. She could hear and feel it's bones being crushed and consumed, and soon it stopped struggling. As she felt it's biomass become a part of her a satisfaction suffused her. It was a feeling she had gotten close to forgetting. Her burgeoning humanity had caused it fade from the forefront of her mind; the pleasure that came with the consuming of flesh. Something normal food didn't give her. If anything it felt better than it ever had before. Her instincts sang in bliss as they unravelled the Monsters genetic code.

Her tendril reformed back into a hand. Marred with blood; all that remained of the creature. As the people rushed away in fear either at her or the Monsters rampaging through their homes, she stared at her hand. She wanted more.

Becoming more cognizant of her surrounds Tia noticed something next to her. Staring up at her was a blue Monster made out of some kind of viscous liquid. Humans would likely find it cute. Apparently it had spoken to her, but Tia hadn't been aware of it so focused had she been on her meal. Just as it did she tilted her head at it, while staring at it through half lidded eyes and an impassive expression. She stood like that for a moment before getting to her knees close to the Slime. Then she stretched out her hand as if to grab it. There was hunger in her eyes.

Then her arm was knocked off course by a stream of dark energy. Blinking she looked at the burned flesh of her hand where the beam had hit her. She felt more impact her body knocking her back. As her wounds regenerated her head shot up to see more of the Monsters as the one she had eaten attacking her. Instincts taking over she got up and ran at them ignoring their attacks. Her flesh around her arm wriggled and shifted [Flesh Spike]. Her mutated arm shot out striking one of the Monsters. While her other formed into another tendril attempting to grab onto one of them and drag them out of the air to her. Tias face was blank as she attacked, yet her eyes were wide and dangerous.

Before long the imp-like creature was no more, crudely torn apart and ravenously consumed by the little girl's terrifying tendril. The sounds of bones being crushed and flesh being ripped apart wasn't the most enjoyable thing to listen to, especially since he was also starting to get hungry, but he bore with it whilst patiently awaiting her response. After a long silence, the monster seemed to finally be ready to address him, bending down as if to scrutinize his small self. Unfortunately, only an awfully familiar danger in her eyes greeted him. It was almost like deja vu, did he really look so edible today? Maybe he should've rolled around in some mud and leaves or something, damn.

"Whew, thanks big bro's little friends!" He called out to the berbalangs that had swooped in to avenge their fifth, though the light-hearted tone of his voice made it clear he hadn't really been afraid. "Miss, you just ate something half your size, why are you so eager to eat more? I mean, I get the feeling, but maybe you should restrain yourself a little?" He advised carefully, racing after her with rapid hops as he realized her intentions.

Leaping between her gruesome tendrils and the equally gruesome berbalangs that were her targets, he stretched himself thin and wide, like a brick wall, attempting to protect the rest of the little imps. "Do you not see how many monsters are here? We could all be friends! Do you have to do this?" He pleaded in a somewhat pitiful tone, his little face almost comically placed in the center of his wall-shaped body. Although his attention was mostly focused on the little girl, a part of him was thinking, man, I hope I get brownie points with that multi-eyed monster for protecting his buddies like this.

Zolgen
1196110200-1.png
Zolgen was still frankly impressed and thankful for the aerial support. When he felt the spear pierce his flesh, he couldn't help but let out a loud somewhat unhinged sounding demonic cackle from the perceived pain. He knew as soon as he got surrounded that he was probably going to get hurt, he wasn't sure what to expect, but this was too good.

"I can't say I was expecting that! It's a shame that you have to die here today, I would enjoy sparing with you again!" He'd exclaim to the person who had managed to grab their spear just like that and go for him.

For such a basic attack they were well trained to have resolve like that, impressing Zolgen. Those who put up a fight were always appreciated for prey as far as he was concerned. It looked like him going to face the crowd hadn't been a bad choice after all with how things were turning out with reinforcements coming just like that. And now better yet people were running back towards them. Likely the work of another ally,

He was even more surprised when the undead soldiers came to his aid. It seemed that the other soldiers near him were getting overwhelmed between the darkness beams and the zombies now. This was definitely to his advantage, he wasn't about to run away now after a strike like that. He would power through the sensation instead. As tempted as he was to finish off the now one armed one, he knew that the zombies would likely take care of him, instead he turned towards the one with the slash across his chest which the capitation strike had struck. He was a bit too distracted with all the combat happening near him to notice the other ongoing events at the moment which surrounded him.

"Thank you I appreciate it." He said towards the undead, he would have grinned if it was possible.

Since there were two guards out of the five left who weren't either injured or killed by him personally, he figured he'd leave them to deal with the new comers, since he knew it wouldn't be long before the one missing an arm was at death's door if he didn't receive some kind of healing. He moved towards the closest unharmed one by him until he was in range and attempted to hit them with

As much as he wanted to look over to see how Shuten was doing, Zolgen was very focused on bringing as many guards as possible down at the moment, whether they were the innocents running around or not these guards would still make a fine meal if nothing else, even if he also enjoyed cutting down people who had very little means to protect themselves.

The defeat of the village was swift and decided, with very few survivors escaping. The knight could not stand up to the group all uniting against him, as after but a few hours, the village was in flames with the bodies of the poor villagers lining everywhere, most with signs of partially being eaten.

Maikoa looked over the scene, standing close to Shuten doji as she walked, she looked over the desctruction, with the little betraying monster buried underneath the bodies, spared by rubble covering her body before the monsters could finish her off, as the battle of the 1 vs the 6 did not end well for her. With this destruction, Maikoa looked around at the monsters gathered, slowly wondering if this was the beginning of their own horde, a group to stop the humans from wiping them out as they often tried.

Monsters joining together in camaraderie to kill knights and revel in the bloodshed was actually refreshing to see rather than the usual help people cliche schtick. I love reading about the monsters and their adventures, or fun in this case. Was a great read to see characters interact and all come together in the brutalizing of the innocent. Great
