Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

Kay just smirked at his comment about Elliott learning it from him and Chas. Growing with the two of them in his life, Elliott didn't really stand a chance in Kay's mind when it came to things like this.

When he said about her maths being flawed, she just rolled her eyes. "Oh shh" she said to him smiling. She would have retaken it because of his facial expression but she knew he'd just make worse and worse photos just for the sake of it, so she left it at what it was. At least she was smiling in the photo. In a weird way it showed who they both truly were as people and she liked it. Even if he did crop himself out of it and just had her in the contact photo, he still had the full image as a normal photo of them both. She hadn't been one for photos of herself for a long time, she'd rather see anyone on photos except for her, so the fact she was willingly taking a selfie of them both together was a big deal, even if he didn't know it.

"We were overdue a photo anyway" she just commented, readjusting again to be back in her original position when he put the phone away. She also figured after giving him permission to take candid shots of her whenever he saw fit, it was only fair she had a photo with him in it.

John full well would have, he would contort his face into all kinds of shapes designed to piss even the most casual of photographers off. It was an art from he'd perfected. In general he preferred candid photos, posing just annoying him, unless he was allowed to pose himself. There was a series of photos that Elliott had taken if him taking the mick out of superhero poses where he looked as if he was about to fall off the roof. They'd even splurged on a cape for John. "That ain't happening." He rolled his eyes dramatically in response to her shushing him, it wouldn't be that simple to shut him up. John knew that Kay knew that too.

He settled back into his original position in the bed. John somehow knew that despite everything that had happened during the day, and the terrors of his nightmares last night, he would sleep soundly that night.

Kay knew it wouldn't be that simple to shut him up, but she said it anyway. She always would, knowing her. "True, it probably wouldn't but at least I know of ways that would" she smirked. She knew him better by now than either of them probably realised. They were so alike but so different, yet when it came to stupid shenanigans they were very much the same. They both had their flare for the dramatics and his over the top eye roll was proof of that.

She hoped they both would sleep perfectly fine this night, compared to last night. She didn't want John to go through what he did again for a second night running. She couldn't see reasons for her to not sleep well, unless she dreamt about the bloody film, but as long as John slept fine throughout the night that was all that concerned Kay. Part of her didn't want to sleep, but part of her did. Before getting comfortable in the crook of his neck, she leaned up and kissed his cheek then snuggled down. "night John" she said, closing her eyes.

Kay took up her usual spot with her head buried in his neck. Surpringly it wasn't uncomfortable to have another person's head there. Surely another person breathing into his shoulder and the weight of them should cause some kind of discomfort trying to get to sleep or annoying pain when he woke up? But it didn't. John had never given it any conscious thought before now, he'd had no need to. But that random thought just flooded it's way into his mind. He dismissed it just as quickly as it had arrived, closing his eyes and replying with one word "night".

He fell asleep quickly as usual, finding himself a lot more tired than he thought he was. The rest of the apartment slept soundly, Cal and Cliff curled against each other, Jay with an old, oversized hoodie on in place of a blanket. Even Rinaa managed to pass out on the couch for a good few hours, without any interruptions in the form of Omega side effects, Omega wearing off or future friends trying to reach her.

Kay had found that since her and John got together, she slept so much better when she cuddled up on him, than when she wasn't. The one night she was just sleeping beside him but on her side with her back to him, she had done all that sleep walking or slept badly. He had this bizarre calming effect on her, which for someone who had a lot of their own problems and could sleep badly, it was quite something. She also was fully intending on making the most of being able to sleep on her side with no baby bump getting in the way.
That night was no different, she slept fine with no disruptions or bad dreams. Just completely peacefully. Fia also hd fallen asleep with her phone on her chest, one leg falling off the bed and one arm up above her head. How she slept in such a position would be beyond anyone, but she did. The blanket was twisted around her.

When the morning came round, Kay would eventually wake up to find her baby bump was just at the starting stages of showing already. The excelerated pregnancy beginning to prove itself.

John slept soundly, no dreams, no lingering thoughts, no nothing. Just the way he liked it. He slept in a fairly normal position and woke at what was a pretty early hour by his standard. And he knew he wouldn't get back to sleep any time any time sonn, so he pulled himself upright. A glance to his side showed that Kay was still asleep. He couldn't see the progression of the baby bump as the duvet obscured it from view. He ended up being nosy and looking through some of the boxes in the room, which contained stuff from Elliott's childhood bedroom, the things he'd had in the storage locker for years. Cal hadn't known what to do with it, so the boxes had taken up residence in the room. In the end he ended up grabbing a well thumbed paperback and beginning to read.

In the main living room the early risers had already risen. Rinaa had been first, with ink stains on her hands and some slight ones on her face that she hadn't been bothered to remove. Then Jay, Cal and Cliff all descending on the kitchen shortly after. They had been joined by Chas and Dan and were now all clustered around the coffee table, conversing in medium paced Attili, with a pause for translation every so often.

Kay didn't wake straight away, but when John had gone snooping through the boxes, she had shuffled position in her sleep and found herself hugging the edge of the duvet. There was something innocent and peaceful about the way she was sleeping. John would have been reading the book for a good 30minutes before Kay eventually started to stir awake with a little groan and sigh. With a little yawn as her eyes fluttered open, she glanced up to see John sitting up reading. "Morning" she said in a sleepy tone, before raising her hand and wiping sleep from her eyes.

Fia was still completely out cold in the other spare room. During the night she had shuffled in her sleep, the duvet having twisted between her legs so one leg was under the duvet and one on top, with said leg bent up over the other one, almost making the letter P shape. Her hair had drifted partially over her face, and one arm was still over above her head, whilst the other was draped over her waist, her phone laying beside her on the bed. She looked a right state but peaceful.

At the sound of Kay's voice, John looked up from his chosen reading material. It was better than he had been expecting, nowhere near as childish, it was a properly good murder mystery, and so far he hadn't a clue who was the murderer, or is there even was one. The main detective was chaotic to say the least. She was ex military, refused to follow orders as point of principle, pissed off all her superiors on purpose, was threatened with being fired on a regular basis and always carried a pistol in her boots. It gave him Altered Carbon vibes with the premise and setting, but it differed after that. He was throughly enjoying it, recognising the title from when Elliott had talked about his planet.

"Mornin' " he replied, flicking to the next page. He'd bent one leg up, and was leaning the book comfortably against it, while the other was stretched straight out along the bed.

Kay noticed he was reading and didn't want to disturb him too much as she knew what it was like when getting into a good book and then having someone constantly try to talk to you. Though she was intrigued what the book was and seeing him read did make her remember she had yet to finish her book that she was reading weeks ago on his roof. She did pack it in her bag but she never got round to actually getting it out her bag and giving it a read.

"What's the book?" She asked, even though she just told herself not to interrupt, she was still intrigued. From the angle she was at and how he had propped the book up, she couldn't see the title on the cover, and just saw the book open. She pushes herself up slightly to slightly sit up.

John wad well aware that Kay had never seen him read anything that wasn't a magic related text. Reading was Chas' thing more so than his. But he had a weak spot for a good murder dystopia murder mystery. "One of Elliott's old books" he flipped up the cover to show her. The title was in Attili script and designed to look like running blood. The cover art itself depicted a dark night time cityscape. The skyscraper towers spiralled high into the sky, becoming shinier the higher they went up. But the focus of the cover was on the grimy, gloomy lower levels. Propped against the wall was a matt black bike. The bulky kind that looked as if had been through a war (it had) and could survive a bomb blast (it could). Next to the bike was the main character, a figure in long robes, thick trousers. One arm was completly metallic up to the shoulder.

"Found it in one of the boxes of his old stuff that Cal kept." He gestured at the open box in the corner, which seemed to be filled with a mix of novels and school books, with some old socks mixed in. "It's actually pretty good so far."

Kay looked at the cover and despite not understanding Attili, the cover did make the book look very interesting. When he gestured to the open box he went snooping in, she looked over to see what it was filled with. "Cool" she replied to him when he said it was actually really good. It was good to see him read something that wasn't a magic book of varying kinds. She didn't think he was ever interested in fiction books, so this was quite the revelation to her. Whereas with her, she loved nothing more than a good book, like Chas did. It was in this moment she realised she was like a mix of the two of them.

"I really need to finish my own book at some point. It's just getting the time to shut out the world and get lost in it." She commented. For her, reading became quite the escape when she was living on the streets. Luckily for her, she found plenty of homeless shelters that always had a mini library for people to take a book for free, read it then when it was finished, they'd hand it back and swap it for another one. She would sometimes steal a book of she knew she'd want to keep it, and her current book was exactly the latter scenario. There were only so many times she could hide in a corner of a book store and pretend she wasn't in there, to keep out the cold and read to her hearts content.

John could see the surprise on Kay's face at his choice of reading material. His tastes were very selective, mainly sticking to magical texts, with some dark dystopia, crime and the occasional gritty spy thriller. For John to read a book the full way through it had to be really something he was interested in. A direct contrast to Chas who would pretty much anything put in front of him, the notable exceptions being magic fiction, romance and certain types of fantasy that came too close to reality. And once Chas had read a newspaper, he'd turn to the puzzle pages to extract as much out of it as he could. He got more than his value for money.

"You'll find time somehow, if not here, then whenever we actually get back to Earth.....although there is a spot of at least three hours when the teenagers are going 3D printing." He knew it was some time in the morning, but didn't know when exactly.

Kay nodded at John's reply. He made a valid point, they would have the morning when the kids would go off 3D printing. "Good point." She replied, as she then remembered Fia was probably still in the other room. She sat up more and let John continue reading, the duvet falling onto her legs and as she looked down she saw for the first time, the start of the baby bump. It made her wish the whole six months thing was a lie and it'd be a normal 9 months, making her not start showing for a few more weeks at least, but it seemed her wish wasn't to come true.

Luckily she wasn't feeling any morning sick was just yet, but had a feeling it wouldn't be long before she did. She stretched her arm down and grabbed her vest, pulling it on. "Talking of the teenagers, you heard Fia get up yet or not? Wondering if it's worth waking her up" she said eventually.

John had pulled on shirt earlier, figuring that there was a high probability that at some point or another they'd be doing the one hundred metre bathroom sprint. Which would no doubt alert Fia's attention, and he was not at all comfortable with being shirtless in front of the time travelling future daughter. It was just weird. He hadn't heard any signs of Fia being awake, but that didn't mean she wasn't. John closed the book, putting in a random receipt as a book mark. "I haven't heard anything from there, doesn't mean she isn't up though. If she's asleep, the don't wake her, she probably needs it."

John then turned his attention to the muffled voices coming from the main area. "Actually, though by the sounds of it Chas arrived back a while ago, I think Dan's there too. Seems they are all talking in Attili...." He listened harder trying to make out the specific voices. "No Elliott though."

Kay then leaned down and grabbed her leggings from the other day, deciding that if she did have to the sprint to the bathroom, she'd rather not just be in a vest and underwear. It would be weird enough with the others around, let alone their future daughter being here. She was glad that they still fit and then properly sat on the bed as he replied to her question. He had a point, she didn't know how much all that time travelling would take it out on Fia, eapecially as she didn't really stop much when she came back with the others.

She just gave her reply in the form of a simple "mmhmm" sound, when she noticed him turning his attention to the muffled voices from the main room. She hadn't even really taken notice until he spoke up about it. It was then she took notice of the muffled voices, even if she couldn't work out who was up and who wasn't like John could. She decided to leave Fia to it as no doubt when her morning sickness kicked in, Fia would be alerted anyway. "Well, one out of two being back ain't bad I guess for the time being" she said with a smirk. She leaned back on the headboard as she sat on the bed, still partially waking up mentally, thinking if she could, this was the perfect moment for a cup of coffee. "I really wish I could drink coffee" she remarked, just thinking out loud, but the moment she did and her brain started thinking about the drink, her stomach hated the idea and causes her to retch and dive out of bed to the bathroom.

The only reason John could identify the voices was that he had honed eavesdropping down to a fine art, both as an incredibly nosy teenager, and as an adult when it came in handy to listen in on the League. He could tell that there was pauses every so often, presumably Chas asking for a translation on something, or a further explanation in English where needed. John found himself wondering what exactly they were talking about, but coming in mid way through the conversation was doing him no favours in that regard. He had started to read the boom again, when Kay made her ill chosen comment. He could see it on her face as they various parts of her body rebelled against that idea with vehemence, prompting the one hundred metre bathroom dash.

He followed, and took up his usual place in the bathroom, something he'd never thought he would ever aquire. (unless it involved being passed out on the floor, that had been his spot for many a night). "I think even I can tell that is a horrible idea."

If there was ever a time that Kay hated her body, it was right in this moment in time. She didn't hate the fact she was carrying and growing Fia, especially after seeing what an impressive kid she grows up to be, but the side effects of not being able to even say the word coffee or think about it without retching really got her down mentally. As she spent the morning going through her usual routine of bringing up nothing, she nodded at his remark. "Not being able to even think about coffee without this as consequence sucks more than being chased by demons.." she complained. In reality nothing was worse than that, but right now she didn't think that.

Fia woke up to hearing running, her hair absolutely everywhere with ultimate bedhair, and wondered what was going on. Bleary-eyed, she got up out of bed and walked to the door, opening it just as a blur that could be described as Kay running across the hall and to the bathroom. She saw John follow and stepped out of the room, following behind. She leaned against the doorframe and rubbed her eyes with a yaw , "what's going on? Is mum alright?" She asked.

This was going to be a serious problem, considering how much coffee Kay had drank at his place. But it had been one of the things Fee had mentioned that she 100% had to stay away from. He wasn't sure why, but she definitly know best on these kinds of matters. And if this was the consequences of just thinking about coffee then he really didn't want to see what would happen when she ingested the stuff. He rolled his eyes at her remark, knowing she didn't mean it, it was just one if those things she said to vent her frustration.

Disrupted by the commotion of Kay, Fia appeared in the door way. Clearly she wasn't a morning person. John had no real time preference, he woke and slept whenever he needed it. Elliott was an early riser who headed to sleep late (only needing four or five hours made that possible). "She will be, apparently this is going to become the norm in order for you to exist."

Saying things out of frustration was seeming to become the normal daily thing for Kay. She hated being sick at the best of times, so every morning for who knows how long doing like this was like a personal hell for her. She just wouldn't ever express it in that manner openly when John was nearby. She was just thankful that she could drink ginger tea without any problems and remembered that ginger was good for nausea, even though it was nowhere near the same thing as her beloved cups of caffeine in the morning.

Fia listened to what John said and nodded, realising now what it was that was up with Kay. "Ah..the ol' morning sick was stage." she replied. "Yeah.. I'll be okay in a.." Kay went to reassure but got interrupted by her vomiting. With a sigh, she finished her sentence, "in a few minutes..it doesn't last long thankfully." "Want me to make anything to help?" Fia asked, wanting to be useful. "Hot water with ginger" Kay replied, before her head was back over the toilet bowl.

The whole situation was beyond weird, but that was just the status quo when it came to John's life. Had been under any other circumstance he would have started laughing when Kay went to reassure Fia, only proving that the opposite was true. Judging by Fia's reaction she'd been told the stories of the copious amounts of vomit produced as a consequence of her being a foetus. Maybe she hadn't believed them, dismissing them as the classic exaggeration that parents do. Well either way, the proof that yes it was that bad right in front of her.

"I would say it's not as bad as it looks, but it is." Was the only (semi) useful contribution John could really make.

John wasn't the only one who thought it was beyond weird. Kay thought it was incredibly weird but she had no choice but just to go along with it. She was also too preoccupied suffering for bringing a mini human into the world. Fia smirked at John's comment about how it was just as bad as it looked. She had to deep sorry for him in a way but she did remember how John would tell her he chose to be by Kay's side with her permission through this stage. "You don't go through the stage for long mum. It's like..the first month or a little under if I remember what future you told me." Fia explained, hoping it was of some kind of comfort.

Kay couldn't even reply to her, she just waved Fia away. She could feel the sickness lessening but it did make her feel so rough for a few moments after. Fia just left and went into the main room, still not realising what a state she looked. "Mum needs hot water and ginger, what cupboard is everything in?" Fia asked, aiming it more at anyone who could help her out find a mug and such.

Kay sighed and slumped back into John like the last couple of times. "She better be right about how long I go through this..I'm already fed up of it" she complained.

The others all looked up at Fia's arrival, taking in the dishevelled state of Fia. Dan cast a questioning look at Chas who nodded, knowing exactly what the blacksmith meant. Fia had never met Dan, he hadn't been around during her arrival yesterday, but she would recognise that some (if not all) of the runes on his arms were disguised magical runes. "Well some things never change." Rinaa smirked from her perch on the arm of one of the armchairs. She'd found the time to fix up her mowhawk again, the spikes once again standing proud. Despite crashing out on a freuqnt basis she managed not to look at total mess (bar the ink stains) afterwards, and had enhirited Elliott's need for less sleep.

"Mugs are in the press by the sink, anything in the box on the left hand side is fair bait. Gingers in the fridge, grater is in the middle drawer, use the purple handled one, the other one is wonky. Don't bother with the kettle, just get Cal to perform the sacred duty of Devra kettle." Cliff told her, from her very comfortable position on the couch with one of Cal's arms slung around her.

"Well if its one thing time travellers should know, its the future, so we can trust her on that." John replied hoping this wasn't some lie by Fia that would only be revealed after she left.

Fia, whom also had her runes on show, noted Dan's appearance. She didn't know who he was, but she knew disguised magical runes when she saw them. She had spent many hours up late studying all different types and doodling them on notepads. She was also aware of him looking at Chas and Chas giving the nod, to which she could only assume was their way of asking if she was the kid of John and Kay. She made a mental note to see if she could use her rune of communication to be able to discuss rune things with Dan. When Rinaa smirked and made a remark, she rose an eyebrow in confusion before catching a glimpse of her reflection and sighed in a disgruntled manner, before proceeding to try and smooth out her hair.
She listened to Cliff's words, taking in the locations of everything and nodded, giving a thumbs up also. "Brill, cheers" she replied, heading into the kitchen and going to the designated areas to make the drink for Kay.

"Yeah, I'd like to think our kid doesn't have a habit of lying to us" she commented back to John.

Some of Dan's runes matched those used in Earth, where as others clearly hailed from elsewhere. He recognised many of Fia's but made no comment, it really was not his place to interfere. Fia's attempts to tidy herself up had no effect whatsoever and only elicited a greater smirk from Rinaa. "Forty five minutes, then we gotta leave, printer time is precious" she called over, figuring it would take around that long for Fia to get herself together. Jay smirked at this hidden meaning. "No prob" Cliff replied, making herself comfortable against Cal again.

"So would I" John replied, not entirely believing his words. He fully suspected that Fia kept some kind of secrets from their future selves, as all teenagers did. Though what exactly they were and whether they were relevant right no was a mother matter. John suspected that despite the rocky start, anything said between Rinaa and Fia would stay private, both being able to pull the "It's time travel related" card.

Fia found everything she needed to make Kay's drink and managed to remember luckily for her how her mum liked it and how it was done. She put the ginger into the mug first, then filled it with water. She heard Rinaa's call out, realising she probably shouldn't have slept in so much. "Got'cha! I'll just do this and I'll be getting ready" She replied to Rinaa. Once the drink was put together, she did as Cliff suggested and brought it over to Cal to heat up. "I could do it myself, but your cool fiancé did offer your services up", she spoke to Cal smiling in a cheeky manner.

If Fia truly was anything like the both of them, then Kay knew deep down that Fia would be holding things back from them or to their future selves, lied a few times about varying things from where she snuck off to or what she was studying. She also wondered what was taking the kid so long to get her drink. "Guess we'll find out in a few years" she smirked.
