into the dreamworld

the plot
In the half-asleep city of Wakubetsu, a mysterious woman granted middle schoolers one wish in return for their service as a magical girl.

Some wished for money or popularity and received enough to last them a lifetime; others for their parent's lives to be longer, or their friend to mysteriously disappear. The illusion did not criticise nor judge her patrons. She simply handed them an eternally blooming flower and sent them on their way. Soon enough the dreamworld was populated by frilly skirts, ribboned shoes and glowing scepters banishing its corrupted creatures, called phantoms, to the nothingness. Certain girls grew something of a following among their peers: their battles with phantoms were watched like sports events, those who knew them from beyond the mirror flocked about them like a celebrity.

Then years later, those same girls were found dead. Murdered in their magical girl outfits in collapsed buildings and ruined alleyways. Somehow, they had crossed into the dreamworld like the illusion, remaining half within the real world. The bodies counted on, another and then another. Names and faces magical girls recognized from their heydays. What had come to pass was now at the forefront of their thoughts once again. Girls began to unknowingly cross into the dreamworld without transforming, leaving them vulnerable to attacks by phantoms. The phantoms don't act like they use to, seeking them out like never before. So, the remaining girls banded to form a coalition to discuss the next step. If the illusion was taking their lives and their service those years ago wasn't enough, what was to be done?

At the first meeting, the illusion appears. She pulls the girls into the dreamworld, trapping them amongst her phantoms, and the fight to escape begins. All they know: the flowers are the key.

guidance and themes
Magical girls in this roleplay will all have themes of nature. Their outfits and weapons must have motifs of flowers, animals, etc. whether it big or small. As well, everyone must have a repesentaive flower and colour, for fun, and also because the illusion refers to the girls by their flowers. Because this is such a broad theme, there are many different styles and colors to be represented which allows for creative freedom! Everyone coming together is like a garden.

I would like to mention too, no code is required to apply or post whatsoever.

There are few things in life you will ever get for free, but for Mizuki, at least they will be cheap. Mizuki learned early that if you want something you must fight for it; but to take the path of least resistance was always her preferred choice. It wasn't that she couldn't work hard for what she wanted, but she knew just the right way to make life easier for herself. Of the back of persitence, near-obsessive observance, and plain old luck, Mizuki became extremely opportunistic in all her pursuits. In her schoolyears, she caught many a confession happening in the schoolyard. And now, whether it is acquiring a new customer, investor, or otherwise, Mizuki knows all the charms she must use to impress them. If the world is a stage, Mizuki knows exactly what to do to make the show go smoothly. She knows that to some she may seem selfish and overbearing, but she loves to use these windows to help others and show her consideration, no matter if she will receive anything in return.

To those closest to her, Mizuki has always been a shoulder to cry on, someone to lend an ear. It can be attributed to her kindly nature and the fact that she is outwardly quiet and somewhat mysterious too. She doesn't tell people much of her own struggles be they big or small, though her massive worries and anxieties sometimes threaten to spill over. The constant performance of her life is hard to maintain, after all; it's something that has turned her standoffish, unfriendly, and too serious to approach to the normal observer. People have called her intense, and it's not something Mizuki herself can disagree with sometimes. When she's focused, she is very much focused, and spares little energy for anything else, let alone looking friendly.

In reality, she greatly craves companionship and will do whatever it takes to get it, ever the people pleaser and mediator for others. So much so, they may overlook her entirely. Mizuki is no fool. But it gets to a person when you seem to be invisible, simply a service or little more than use for others. But to her closest of friends who truly value her, Mizuki is an eternally loyal pillar. She prides herself in being reliable and attentive to people, and puts great effort into being so.

She has heard countless times that she is more a vulture than a true winner in her business pursuits, preying on the desperate and not so financially smart of the Wakubetsu locale, but the life it provides her is too good to abandon. Mizuki means well and doesn't seek to be malicious, but the criticism has made her question if she really is a fraud. There is much inner tumoil inside Mizuki, and she struggles on the daily with overcoming it all to find herself within all the chaos. Nevertheless, the show must go on.

history

Mizuki's early childhood was unremarkable. Exceedingly normal. She was born to an upper middle-class family in a new development area of Wakubetsu, adored and doted on as a child. Her world was full of birthday parties, playdates, junior soccer leagues and early morning runs to the convenience store down the road. When her father passed to a heart attack in her fifth year, the death of her seemingly healthy husband shook both Mizuki and her mother to the core. All at once their routine disintegrated. The money stopped coming and there was no life insurance to collect. They hadn't planned for such a shock. This period of Mizuki's life she recalls in a blur, only certain parts standing out to her as she looks back. They lost the house, the car, and moved across town into smaller, older condos. Her mother became something of a recluse, working away at her computer with little time to spare for Mizuki or the world. The connections she had in their last neighbourhood were never to be seen again. All the friends she gained over the years faded into memories once she switched schools, instead attending one within walking distance.

While her mother tried, the grief was worse for her than Mizuki. In attending to her mother, Mizuki herself grew apart from the world. In the wake of her father's death, she felt a sort of guilt for it. People told her it wasn't her fault, but she felt as if she had sapped all the life from her father somehow. She focused entirely on her schooling and poured all her energy into academic acheivements. Any opportunity that presented itself Mizuki would jump on if it meant impressing her mother, paying a debt that only she knew of. Through her studious tendencies, she met many people, friendly or not quite so, some of which she took a liking to more than others.

Though she succeeded in academics, Mizuki had little to show in the way of a social life. She had no one else but herself, and dwelled in her head a lot. Naturally it only takes a while before one begins to crave outward approval. Her lack of a social life was not due to lack of trying. She underwent an ugly duckling phase right when her peers seemed to become more judgemental than ever, outpaced by girls learning to do their makeup and compliment their features. She craved the attention her peers received, desperately wanted to be seen as more than just that nerd. When it came to crushes, Mizuki stood no chance. Confession after the confession was sabotaged or hijacked, but Mizuki hadn't the confidence nor the experience that would allow her to stand up for herself. For one boy in particular, envelope in hand, he flat out refused her, saying, "Mizuki, if only it wasn't you." The words crushed her. She crumpled the letter and tore it apart in the schoolyard, furiously walking home. It was then the illusion revealed herself in an alleyway she always used as a shortcut. Though at first she wanted to run, something within her forced her to stay put. Mizuki felt a sense of trust that no friend had ever provided her, finally revealing her true desire out loud.

"I wish I was lucky with love."

With her yellow primrose, Mizuki headed home with more resolve than ever. The boys didn't start to pay attention to Mizuki. No one did, really. Mizuki considered her wish a dud until she began to realize it was working in a way she never expected. Whoever she spoke to about their crush was sure to get together with them. Her peers noticed this and considered her something of a lucky charm: luck which she started to charge for. First for lunch money, and then for larger sums. In her high school years, she came to be somewhat infamous, sought after by all sorts of people for this uncanny talent of hers. Instead of attending university with those hard-earned grades of hers, Mizuki opened a matchmaking service that she conducts from a small studio in Wakubetsu's east side.

In the dreamworld, Mizuki had more of a low profile. It took a while to become used to shooting a bow and learning the uses and limits of her abilities. For the most part she tagged along with other girls and aided them in takedowns. The dreamworld was a break from her work and chaotic life, but soon enough there wasn't even time for escaping it. But as she came into her own, she gained the confidence she lacked as a child. She had finally overcome her ugly duckling phase and had begun to make some use of her wish, started to make money to help her mother.

miscellaneous

wish

To be lucky with love.

occupation

Professional matchmaker.

weapon of choice

A bow and arrow made of light wood. It's long and thin akin to a longbow with not much fanfare. The arrows for the bow can manifest within a quiver infinitely, but have a cooldown period of a half hour or so if old arrows are not retreived. The quiver is adorned with frills and braided rope.

outfit

The main motif in Mizuki's outfit is asymmetry and an absurd number of frills and pleats. The overall color pallet is her color yellow, white, and various earth tones. In her hair is an assortment of yellow primroses, earth-toned plants and adornments like here. She wears a simple midi white dress with a skirt somewhat like this, with a yellow hip hugging set of attachable pockets like this. Undeneath her skirt she wears sheer thigh-high stockings, embroided in a fine floral pattern along the outer sides. Her shoes are yellow flats like a ballerina's, the ribbons reach to just below her knee on the right side. Over her dress is another white element that is the busiest of the bunch, a sheer shrug that's dominated by asymetric ruffles and pleats.

abilities

Most of Mizuki's abilities center around defense and crowd control. Using the end of her bow as almost a pen, she can cast barriers and forcefields that can block phantoms from passing. They show as a transparent yellow wall almost like glass, but can withstand a decent amount of force before shattering. When shooting an arrow (which must be "marked" first by tapping it to the ground) at the ground or into a wall, it creates a blast that pushes anything in proximity outwards. A forcefield can also be remotely cast using an arrow, but Mitsuki hasn't figured this out much yet.

weaknesses

Casting barriers is not instant and requires a level of forethought as Mizuki must be exactly where she plans to place it and draw accordingly. In a fast paced battle, she is reduced to simply concussion arrows and normal shots. The concussion arrows affect both phantoms and magical girls, and once they are "marked" they are considered live and if dropped, will produce the blast where they fall. Barriers themselves have a limited force they can withstand before breaking, so are weaker against stronger or more agile phantoms who can avoid them. Of course the arrows are also only as good as where Mizuki can aim them, and an error may result in a disadvantage of position.

OVERVIEW Altruistic, Hard-working, Polite, Strong-willed, Compassionate, Empathetic, Intelligent, Level-headed, Loyal, Observant, Detail orientated

Honoka is never one to stand out. Though she is envied for her looks, work ethic and kindness, she has never been considered anyone particularly special, no more than anyone else. However, reserved but assuredly polite and breezy, she slowly but steadily draws in the attention of the people around her. Constantly conscious of the feelings of others, she is able to ease conversation from others effortlessly, her warm, amicable yet calm nature making her easy to talk to, despite her first impression often coming across as someone distant and rather introverted. And though she isn't particularly funny, her charming, modest charisma alone is often enough to satisfy people. She is almost always smiling and cheerful within in interaction, keeping a positive mindset at all times. As a result, she is liked by many, and often enjoys speaking to a multitude of people about trivial things. She has many close friends, who she cares for deeply, even if they know little of her secrets and struggles.

Furthermore, she ends up more often than not being the one that people look to for advice or to cry to, which Honoka knows is an important role. Being empathetic, she is one who doesn't mind listening, as she knows it is important to make the other feel valued. She has heard many a confession, worry and cry, despite not really ever having good advice, but being there and listening and reassuring. It has become commonplace for her to be there for her friends, that she often considers it her purpose. Even if it means she never opens up about her own internal struggles, she doesn't mind it as long as others are happy, because she knows she is relied on by many, even if they do not realise it. The idea of letting those she loves down or hurting them, hurts her more than anything, her loyalty to them something she will never forget or take for granted, more so than her own happiness.

She is hard-working and intelligent, seemingly working most hours. From little things like chores to studying, she is found to be doing some kind of work, never complaining even if she wanted to. Her altruistic nature also means she is one to accept any job or request that those around her ask of her, leading some to take advantage of that, though she is aware enough to realise yet doing it anyway. Even so, Honoka isn't all that confident and bold, despite her ability to navigate social situations and her willingness to step forward for the sake of others, as if it isn't confidence she has but a can-do attitude that allows her to do what she must. Always delivering on promises, Honoka is trustworthy and loyal, attributes she considers important to forever remain within her.

Despite her passive nature, it doesn't mean she isn't strong willed. In some regards, she is a leader, though it is only merely a façade created by others' trust and belief in her. She is able to inspire, whole heartedly thrusts her belief in her friends. Her reliability means she becomes a pillar for others, someone who uplifts and builds people up. Even though she doesn't particularly desire leadership, she knows that her acting strong is able to empower others also. In her school days, she was often a core in friendship groups, finding that they became chaos in her absence. She makes sure however to enact mercy on those who wrong her or her friends, handling situations in order to make everyone happy with the outcome. However, she can become extremely stressed when things go wrong under her supervision. Though she is good at keeping things under control, she can often entrusts herself with everything overestimate what she can handle, not letting others share her burden, causing things to become worse than it was. She is easy to blame herself and can fall into self hatred, though she never likes to show that, focussing her attention on building what was broken.

Despite being emotionally intelligent, she herself doesn't truly know what's best for her, under the illusion she lives for the sake of others. Though it isn't a lie that she is what she says she is on the surface, she never truly shares what lays beneath, unwilling to even think to share a slice of her thoughts and feelings. She thinks herself more vital to others than perhaps is necessary, under the guise of being helpful. It can often mean she takes situations more seriously than they are, or takes on too much of a burden. After all, she thinks as positively as she can, though she knows to be realistic, though she is never one to be complacent, doing what is necessary and more to achieve what she believes is best.

03.

history

Born into a middle class family on the coast of Wakubetsu, Honoka had a fairly standard, if not comfortable, upbringing. With her parents being supportive, she spent much of her childhood embraced by beach life. While her mum worked in finance, her dad was a sailor, who mostly manned cargo ships, leaving him absent for lots of her childhood. However, it didn't mean they weren't close. When he was home, they spent much of their time together, often sailing around the Wakubetsu seas, where he taught her much about boats and the sea. She was also close with her mother too, whom of which they spent much time together. Apart from her parents, she spent her time doing what many kids do, hanging out with friends, doing homework and going to school, shopping and the like. As someone who was a bright student, she balanced her many friends and work healthily. She also had plenty of time to exercise too, often walking and going to shops by herself from a very young age. Though a bossy child, she wasn't difficult to look after, only a little challenging when ideals clashed. Though she enjoyed family time, being especially close with her mother due to them living alone together, she also grew to be independent, helping out her mother, doing chores and the like. It was perhaps an ideal childhood.

As she grew up however, she also gained siblings, having 2 sisters and 1 brother by the time she was 10. And due to her father's absence for months on end and her mother's ever increasing workload, she ended up being the one to help raise her siblings. She didn't mind however, working diligently around the clock to fit her family into her schedule, of which was growing with each passing day. As she got into middle school, the work increased, and she grew more and more popular. It was around this time she began to fit into her role, as her siblings, parents and friends began depending on her. No matter how tiring it got however, she learnt to do it all efficiently. However, this all fell apart as things slowly slipped out of her control, something she had worried over. As the stress of tests got to her, as well as the arrival of a 4th sibling, the load became too much. She ended up extremely stressed, her tests growing ever closer, the harsh reality of her busy life beginning to collapse in on her. She was struggling to revise, her mock tests slowly getting worse and worse results, and she was beginning to neglect the needs of her siblings.

This was when she met the Illusion, granting a wish; just the thing she had wanted. As the waves lapped against the mottled beach, the moon's light twinkling on the sea, she appeared like a dream. Though she had to be wary of strangers, the woman smelt like a meadow of flowers in full bloom. It seemed to calm her ever wavering nerves. She'd never opened herself up like this, or been given the chance. She thought even if it meant nothing, it couldn't harm her, right? After taking a while to think, the words finally left her lips:

"I wish I could never forget."

The Illusion smiled, filling Honoka with gladness, and she received her flower: the dainty, tiny bloom of a forget-me-not. She didn't think much of the interaction at the time, but she felt a little better. The wish didn't activate immediately. First it came in short bursts of memories, little things she had forgotten over the years, like phone numbers and the faces of old friends. However, as weeks past, the memories began to flood in, almost overwhelming. Not to mention that her memories created from then on would be instantly retained. It was certainly uncomfortable, all these regrets and joys all piled into her brain, but she eventually got used to the feeling. Though, it was only when she used her memory for her own good did her life begin to pick back up again. Her tests became a breeze, only needing one glance at the information to remember, and her ability to plan and look after her siblings became immensely efficient. She even became somewhat of a local celebrity, using her intelligence to help out around the community whenever she could. Her memory was certainly useful, though she had often regretted it, as her darkest memories seemed to ever bubble in her brain, like the sun, always lurking.

As for her magical girl roles, she embraced it as much as she could, always working as hard as she could to deal with the phantoms. Due to her impressive leadership and planning skills, she had become quite well known within the circle of magical girls, even despite her subpar combat skills. She was happy to add another concrete role in her life. It was tiring balancing everything, but she made sure to make it work, dedicated to her duty, despite not really knowing why. Despite being popular in the dreamworld, she never seemed to follow that up in real life, sacrificing her social life a little to make way for all her jobs. She didn't mind however, as she still talked to them in school and sometimes outside, and she knew that was the price to pay for have a duty.

However, as more and more magical girls stopped performing their duties, she remained one of the ones committed to her role, even if it had lost all real purpose. She thought that it meant she had to work even harder to replace all the magical girls that had slowly left their role. As a result, her social life became as barren as the dreamworld, as she spent more and more time committed to school, family and dreamworld. Though she worked past it, she began to only talk to her friends in school, and lost contact with her magical girl friends slowly but surely. She tried not to mind however, though the thought lurked in her mind every day and night, just like all her worries. The price to pay for memory.

miscellaneous info

magical girl outfit

Though a rather standard magical girl outfit, she would wear an outfit consisting of a colour scheme of light blue and white, with accents of gold. She would have a blue suit like top, a high rise collar that almost completely covers her neck, with the ends of the collar tapered with a lace pattern and blue accents. She would have a large fabric forget-me-not on the top of her chest, in between her collar bones, with white ruffles cascading in between the neck line of her suit top. Her shoulders would be ruffled with lace also, with no sleeve. However, on her forearms would be a cuff with ruffles and lace. She would wear a school-uniform style skirt, cut off at the mid thigh, with a petticoat and tulle ruffles to give it shape. The back of the dress would be slightly longer at the front, falling at just below her knees. Her shoes would be high blue boots that cut of at the knee, with a lacey pattern top which frills at the top. Her hair would be the same, though two small plaits would crown her head, joing at the back to create a ponytail, the hair embroidered with forget-me-nots. Overall, the look would have a smart yet feminine and cute look to it, with slight inspirations from royalty.

magical girl weapon

Honoka's weapons are two scythes of equal length and appearance. Though the handles are almost the height of her, being 4'6" feet long, the blades stretch out 3 feet. The handles are both indigo, laced with bejewelled forget-me-not embellishments that wrap around from the middle of the handle to the blade. The blade itself is silver but shimmers with the colours of the night sky, turning light blue, sapphire and purple in the light. They both sit in a strap that is incorporated on the back of her magical girl outfit, perfectly fit so they do not hassle her in motion, being light weight also.

Apart from distorting the memories and senses of others, but upon contact with the blade and the phantom, the scythes can also form a bridge between Honoka and the memories of the phantoms, allowing her to briefly see their memories, though everything she sees is incomprehensible pain and fear. The blades also soak in the memories of the target upon contact. If a phantom is killed by the blade, it is said they die with the image of Honoka/forget-me-nots forever in their soul.

magical abilities & weaknesses

As part of her magical abilities, Honoka has the ability to distort the memory and senses of phantoms for a brief period of time. With one swing of one her scythes, a magical sonic boom tears space itself in the direction of wherever she attacked. If any phantom's brains are in the path of the wave, their memories become distorted whilst their vision becomes inverted, as Honoka becomes the only thing on their mind and sight, causing them to attack her after a brief moment of confusion. Though most strikes are 3 metres wide for all, a more powerful strike can cover a range of up to 50 metres in front of Honoka, though that distance becomes shorter with each physical interruption, including phantoms.

Though it is useful as a distraction, it serves as nothing more than that, unable to damage phantoms. Furthermore, if a large group of phantoms becomes affected, Honoka can easily become overwhelmed. The mind-muddling only lasts up to a two or three minutes with smaller phantoms, larger ones being quicker to come to their senses. She cannot control how the phantoms react or what is distorted.

wish

She wished to never forget anything.

with an eccentric style, overwhelming confidence, and a relatively deep voice, yuina certainly sets quite an impression for those who meet her for the first time. people often tend to put her into two categories: a bit intimidating, or somewhat unusual, if not interesting. yuina definitely prefers the lattermost and tries her best to come off as a warmhearted person. she likes to be humorous, unafraid of being the butt of a joke or making herself look like an idiot if it means getting someone to smile or laugh. she's talkative and loves being around other people. she's the type of person who enjoys being friends with everyone, or at least trying to be. she's conscious of other people's feelings and is quite good at matching their energy, making her quite charming and good at winning people over.

that being said, she's typically high-energy. she's quite a free-spirited and adventurous person, sometimes to her own detriment. her own curiosity and drive for entertainment can make her a bit reckless, and it often extends to others that she gleefully drags into her antics. she doesn't enjoy when people try to restrict her from doing things she wants and wouldn't hesitate to break or bend a few rules here and there if she considers them stupid. she doesn't mean to be, but there are times where she has a very difficult time staying focused or sitting still. with a million different things running through her mind in a minute, she has a tendency to move from one thing to the next in a matter of seconds. however, she's been trying to slow down her thoughts recently.

one of yuina's undeniable qualities is that she's very ambitious, perhaps stubbornly so. she's a rather creative and intuitive person, finding odd and roundabout solutions to problems. however, she can get quite restless if she has no creative outlet. she's hardworking, very determined to achieve her goals, and tries to keep an optimistic view despite what other people tell her. she's equally as positive with her dreams as she is with other people's. as someone who's been endlessly discouraged, she hates to see other people feel similarly. she's protective of her friends and wouldn't hesitate to stand up for them. she likes giving people a shoulder to lean on and is always happy to comfort or encourage someone who is having a difficult time. whether she's just having fun or engaging in a serious conversation, she wants to keep a cheerful outlook.

however, yuina can't say her cheerfulness is always genuine. there are so many things that worry her in her personal life, but she simply doesn't want other people to worry about her. lately, she's been having several doubts about her passion, and she can't help but compare herself to others and wonder if it's even worth it. she's quite reserved in the sense that she doesn't want to tell people how she's actually feeling, and would much rather bottle everything up and toss it away. but she's perfectly satisfied living that way, disregarding her own struggles if it means uplifting others.

history

yuina was born in wakubetsu, japan and lived there with her two parents and her older brother of seven years, yukio. as a child, yuina quickly grew in love with music after watching her brother play the bass and thinking it was the coolest thing. she kept begging her parents to get her an instrument — any instrument — and they eventually gave in and bought her a keyboard. of course, it was nothing like her sibling's guitar, but yuina wasn't any less happy. she became quite a talented pianist and eventually took yukio's bass guitar after he started prioritizing his academic life over music. even so, he was always there to listen when yuina wanted input on her playing or if she just wanted to show him a song.

that was the key difference between the two siblings: while yukio focused on school, yuina started caring less and less about it. although she was quite a bright student, her grades began to slip as she submitted half-assed assignments and played her instruments instead of studying. her parents were obviously disappointed and attempted to get yuina to raise her grades in various ways. usually, she'd be compared to yukio, who was a model student and overall ideal child. either that or they'd threaten to take her instruments away. yuina, being quite a rebellious girl, didn't really listen to her parents and was quite surprised when she found her instruments missing from her room after returning home from school one day. apparently, her parents had sold them while she was away.

yuina was unsurprisingly distraught, and often took to ranting to yukio, who subtly advised her to just do as their parents said for a bit. so yuina began to do just that, and started focusing more on her grades and school. her home life became calmer and her parents were significantly happier, but yuina obviously wasn't. however, she pushed through until the end of the school year, which wasn't so miserable by the end. as a way of congratulating her for her good grades, her brother purchased a new guitar for her with his own money. her parents weren't so happy about the gift, but decided to brush it aside since it wasn't much of a problem during yuina's break from school.

at least, her music wasn't a problem until she brought up wanting to be a musician. her parents immediately disapproved, claiming it was a useless career and they wouldn't support her. instead, they insisted she be more like yukio, who was quite uncomfortable with the comparison. instead, he took his sister's side and encouraged her to do what she liked. it became a hush-hush topic that wasn't brought up for the sake of avoiding arguments. yuina simply ignored her parents' opinion and continued cherishing music, even starting to create her own songs which she eagerly shared with her brother.

but things changed when one day, the yuzuki family received a call that yukio was hospitalized following a bad vehicular accident. when they arrived at the hospital, they found him in an injury-induced coma that the doctor claimed he'd wake up from within a few weeks. yuina visited frequently, and certainly for longer than just a few weeks. months passed, but yuina still visited. sometimes she'd talk to him, and sometimes she'd bring in her guitar and play songs. it was during a visit at the hospital that she met the illusion, who approached her and questioned what such a young girl was doing there. when she was asked to make a wish, yuina didn't hesitate: "i want my brother to wake up." the illusion smiled and gifted her bluestar flowers before vanishing.

the next day, the yuzuki family received a call that yukio miraculously woke up. however, he was never quite the same. there were lapses in his memory and he became extremely irritable at the "strange visitors" who'd show up, his sister included, even weeks after awakening. around the same time, her parents started stressing her out, begging yuina to study something worthwhile since she was the family's "last hope." it was too much for yuina to handle and she began avoiding her responsibilities by visiting the dreamworld.

she didn't quite find peace in the dreamworld, but it was a decent distraction. she ignored all her problems by putting on a cheerful facade, and got along with most of the other girls. she became quite popular there because of her flashy weapon and abilities and appreciated the support girls gave her there, which she no longer received from anyone in the real world. however, it never flushed the overwhelming guilt and anxiety she felt each time she returned to reality and had no choice but to face the ever-expanding list of problems in her life.

miscellaneous

color

blue (#82abf5).

wish

her brother's recovery.

outfit

yuina wears something akin to a uniform (somewhat like the leftmost here). on the outside, her outfit is mainly black with blue details. she wears a black top with a brooch shaped like her representative flower. silver jewels in the shape of bluestars connect from the brooch and to the shoulders. the sleeves are slit open, and the interior fabric is blue. she wears a silver belt with a similar brooch over white high-waisted shorts. jewelry also dangle from her belt. underneath the shorts she has sheer black tights, with a floral pattern near the thighs upon close inspection. she wears black fingerless gloves and black platform boots. she wears a black baker boy hat with a small amsonia detail. she has several silver ear piercings and wears plain silver rings on her fingers, the nails of which are painted blue.

weapon

yuina's weapon is an electric guitar. the body of the guitar is the same hue as her representative color. the fretboard is black and has floral decorations along it (similar to this but with amsonia). a black guitar strap is attached to carry the instrument with more ease. the instrument plays at a frequency that's normal for the human ear, but painful for phantoms, often slowing and stumbling them. bluestar flowers start slowly growing from the eardrums and into the phantom's body, killing them from the inside.

abilities

as part of her magical abilities, yuina is capable of manipulating sound. at close range, she's able to amplify the pressure of sound within a small radius to blast phantoms (and humans) back, however it's mostly to give her a chance to evade an attack rather than cause damage. interestingly, her powers are aimed towards other magical girls more than the phantoms through the use of musical enhancement. she can play songs at a frequency only other magical girls can hear, which can reenergize or buff them in various ways depending on the song.

weaknesses

cannot effectively kill phantoms that do not possess eardrums. stealth attacks are not a part of her dictionary. vulnerable in close range combat. her attention often has to be fixated on what she's playing, leaving her unaware of her surroundings. her amplification of pressure can impact other magical girls. she can only give one supportive buff per song/riff, so the buffs are limited to whatever she's playing. her weapon causes the actual process of killing phantoms to take an obnoxiously long time, though yuina supposes she doesn't mind putting on a show.

Name: Hayakawa Fuyuko
Nicknames: Fuyu
Gender: Female
Dob and age: August 10, 1987 (17 years old)
Occupation: Third year student in high school
Ethnicity: Japanese
Representative flower: Black Rose
Representative color: Black
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 103 lbs
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Body type: Lean
Face claim: Yurina Hirate

Magical girl outfit: As a magical girl, Fuyuko wears a black, long-sleeved blouse with a ruffled collar and cuffs. A white brooch shaped like a flower is pinned to the collar. She wears a white knee-length skirt held up with white suspenders. She wears black, knee-length socks. There are black flowers embroidered onto the skirt. Finally, her shoes are white and topped with two flowers for each shoe.

Weapon: A small handgun that shoots out roses attached to thorned vines. When released, the rose will wrap its vine around the intended target (assuming the gun was aimed well) and will slowly embed its thorns into the target. Once the thorns are in, its difficult to get them off. Not to mention painful.

Personality: Formerly a timid crybaby who was incapable of getting her words out in between sobs, Fuyuko has grown into a somewhat cold person.

Quiet. Very, very quiet. Fuyuko doesn't enjoy speaking much, mostly due to past experiences, and therefore a lot of her sentences are restricted to hardly any words at all, if any. She would prefer to observe conversations go by.

Indifferent. Fuyuko has become hardened over time. She finds it difficult at times to really invest a part of herself into something, which can extend to relationships sometimes. While she treasures the close friends she does have, caring about someone outside of that doesn't come easy. At times, it feels like a lot of things are pointless, and that something will go wrong no matter what. For that reason, Fuyuko tries not to care about a lot of things. From her view, she thinks something in her broke at some point in time, and that she didn't do a good job putting it back together.

Hard worker. Fuyuko does her best when it comes to schoolwork. Once upon a time, that same attitude went to magical girl duties as well. Failure can't be an option for her, and no matter what is happening, Fuyuko intends to get things done if she considers it a priority. Especially if it has a deadline on it.

Self-preservation. Fuyuko refuses to go down. She does not want to suffer harm and because of that she prioritizes her own well-being and safety in a dire situation. She never fought for herself before, and as a result of that, was put in situations that terrified her. She never wants to experience that feeling again, and as such tends to take measures to ensure she won't.

Likes: The sound of rain, silence, stargazing, libraries, forests

Dislikes: Seeing her own blood, being in pain, being in water, small spaces, food that's too sweet

Wish: For those who bullied her to disappear forever.

Magic abilities: Fuyuko can specifically control thorned roses, like the ones that come from her handgun. Fuyuko can generate for those same roses to come out of the ground, making them as big or small as she needs them to be. These roses can act as either offense or defense -- either being able to whack foes out of the way or to act as a shield.

Weaknesses: Fuyuko can only control roses. Any other plant is not something she can control. As well as that, Fuyuko can only make those roses appear if she's outside. Meaning that if she were in a fight inside, she'd be restricted to just using her handgun, which can only shoot things and not much else.

Background: Fuyuko is an only child, having just a mom and a dad with no siblings to speak of. Fuyuko was somewhat spoiled, as her parents enjoyed buying her any toy that she had wanted. She was their pride and joy, and they were willing to do anything for her. Except for taking time off of work. They were a determined pair who wanted to be able to give the best life possible to their daughter, and to do so they figured working as much as they could was the only way. They needed money in order to provide for her, after all. Unfortunately, the only outcome this had on Fuyuko was that she felt an increasing amount of loneliness. Really, the only thing she had wanted then was their time. For all the toys they had gotten her, none of them had the ability to ease the painful feelings she was wrestling with. She didn't want her aunt and uncle to watch her all the time, and Fuyuko felt a little bad for hating them then -- but she hadn't wanted to see their faces. As an act of rebellion, Fuyuko avoided both of them for the majority of the time they were supposed to be watching her. She'd hide herself away in various available hiding places throughout the house, clutching one of her stuffed animals close to her chest while she fought off tears.

This continued for a while, until one day Fuyuko's aunt happened to find her a lot faster than usual. Fuyuko made an attempt to run away, but her aunt managed to gently grab her before she could. It didn't take long for Fuyuko to begin crying, and it was then that she quietly admitted to her aunt that she just wanted her parents to spend more time with her. After that day, things seemed to turn for the better. Her parents didn't work as crazily as they used to, and carved out as much time as they could to spend time with Fuyuko. Besides that, Fuyuko even got a little closer with her aunt and uncle when they dropped by to visit. Fuyuko was a lot happier. But then, fifth grade hit, and everything got worse again.

For some reason or another, Fuyuko's friends had drifted away from her and found some new friends of their own. Fuyuko didn't know why that happened, but once more that feeling of loneliness had taken a hold of her. It was at this time that the bullying had begun. Fuyuko can't really pinpoint when and how it started, but one day she had left school with a few bruises. A few times a week, she was called names, or if they were bold enough they'd inflict physical harm. Fuyuko didn't want to tell her parents, or anyone at all, as a small part of her felt shame. She didn't want to bother anyone. So instead of telling an adult, Fuyuko just took it.

Months passed. Fuyuko got her belongings destroyed, she was locked inside some places and wasn't allowed out even if she pleaded, and sometimes bruises appeared here and there. Fuyuko was terrified of going to school, but even so, she'd shakily seat herself at her desk each day anyway. Everything started feeling like an endless cycle that she couldn't break free from.

When school had ended for the day, Fuyuko found herself in the bathroom, a place she seemed to be in most days. Two of her more frequent bullies stood over her. Their words were easy to drown out, it was only when things felt physical that Fuyuko was dragged back to the present. Once they had gotten bored and left, Fuyuko slowly peeled herself off of the bathroom floor, her body already sore. Walking home would be a pain. She didn't know what time it was, but hopefully it wasn't too late. Fuyuko didn't want her parents to ask questions. How long had she been here..?

Everything had been blurring together. The days, what they said to her, what they did to her. Fuyuko couldn't separate any of it. She was living in a daze. Standing up after a bit of effort, Fuyuko slowly walked out of the bathroom. She didn't want to think about it anymore. For now, she just wanted to get home.

Fuyuko took the longer way home most days. She'd take turns towards areas that were probably sketchy, but if it meant she wouldn't have to run into her bullies, Fuyuko didn't care. Except, on this day, Fuyuko wasn't so alone. She found the illusion waiting for her. Stunned by the sight, Fuyuko subconsciously tried to hide her arms. But the illusion didn't seem to want to ask about that. Instead, Fuyuko was asked if she wanted just one wish to come true. Instantly, Fuyuko could picture the kids at school who had made her life so much more harder. Hesitantly, she answered with yes.

It was as if the incidents Fuyuko had previously suffered from flashed through her mind. Slowly, Fuyuko's eyes flooded with tears, and for the first time in months Fuyuko broke down. Her wish came out easily. "I want those people who bullied me to disappear forever."

As Fuyuko wiped at her tears, she noticed the woman smiling as she extended a black rose to her. Sniffling, Fuyuko accepted it. Just as Fuyuko was about to apologize for crying like that in front of her, an absolute stranger, it seemed as if the woman had disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Continuing her walk home, Fuyuko couldn't help but to stare at her new flower. It was really beautiful, she thought.

The next day at school, everyone in class was in an uproar. Apparently, a lot of kids had died last night. Their parents had either found or watched them collapse to the ground, not breathing. Fuyuko felt like her heart had stopped itself. She could only sit at her desk, her mind racing. Was it her fault?

The day started out easy enough. Eyes drifted to her, but it could be ignored. Eventually, though, whispers to friends turned into confrontation. Fuyuko could recognize the people who came up to her. Friends of the bullies, who were now dead. Their eyes looked to have been red from crying.

"What did you do?" One of them asked, voice full of anger and hurt. Fuyuko gave an honest answer. "I-I didn't..do anything.."

This did not satisfy any of them. Another one of them grabbed Fuyuko by the shirt, tears falling from his face. "Don't lie to us, you freak! You had to of done something to them, everyone knows it!"

Connections were made in Fuyuko's mind. They knew. Everyone knew what was happening to her, yet no one did nothing. She's suffered, cried, and felt like fear itself was strangling her. She went through awful things. And everyone knew.

Something snapped inside of Fuyuko.

She kicked the boy as hard as she could, causing him to release her. She didn't stop there though. Once she got to her feet, she lunged at the boy who was now on the ground. She threw punches at him, her rising anger and sadness mixing together. She yelled at him, begging for answer, why didn't anyone stop them all this time?

At this point, a small crowd had started forming. Fuyuko snuck a glance at their faces. They varied from one kid to another, but a lot of them looked scared. Like she was doing something bad. Was she..?

Fuyuko had paused long enough for the boy to shove her off of him. His friends quickly ran to his side, and the crowd started whispering. Someone must have ran to get a teacher, because she heard the clicking of heels and a familiar authoritative voice. Fuyuko didn't have the energy in her to run away.

Parents were called. The boy's parents were furious. Fuyuko's parents were very apologetic. Fuyuko was told to apologize, which she managed to mumble one out. He looked bruised like she had been. She really hurt him. Fuyuko was silent as the principal went on to say that this is a rough time for everyone, what with the number of deaths that have occurred all of a sudden. Fuyuko squeezed her hands together nervously. She wanted to disappear too.

The next day, Fuyuko stayed home. Her parents agreed with the idea, assuming that she must be in a state of mourning. Fuyuko couldn't bring herself to say otherwise.

The day progressed slowly. Fuyuko's parents didn't go to work that day, as they wanted to be there in case Fuyuko needed them. As Fuyuko ate breakfast that morning, she noticed her parents talking in whispers to each other. She stopped, leaning forward in the hopes of hearing them better. The words she managed to make out caused her to drop her spoon. That boy had died during the night.

Fuyuko darted up to her room as fast as she could, panic squeezing her heart. Her parents quickly followed after her, concern in their words. But Fuyuko simply slammed her door, tears falling fast. This was like a nightmare. She didn't want this. She had just not wanted to be bothered anymore. She didn't mean for anyone to die.

Her eyes fell onto her flower, the black rose that sat beside her bed. She ran to it, hands holding it gently in her palms. "Please, take me away from this." She begged in a whisper. Needless to say, when Fuyuko discovered the dreamworld, it quickly became her escape.

Fuyuko hardly attended school after that, instead choosing to spend her time in the dreamworld. Half of the reason was because she was afraid -- of the other kids at her school, of being given bruises, or being the reason someone else dies. She couldn't face it, and she didn't want to hear them pin the blame on her. Even if..she did believe they were right. She was the one who made the terrible wish, after all. It's her fault those kids are..gone.

Day by day, Fuyuko began to recede into herself, speaking less and less. Maybe if she didn't talk, if she didn't get involved with anyone, then nobody else would have to die. Right?

This was something her parents started to notice. They were already concerned as her absences from school were starting to pile up, but this itself was even more worrying. So, they sat Fuyuko down one day and suggested that maybe it would be better for her to transfer to a new school. Fuyuko didn't object. If things got bad at a new school, she could just escape into the dreamworld.

The new school proved to be a little intimidating. Mostly because Fuyuko hadn't gone to school in some time. It was easy to forget what it was like being at one.

Fuyuko didn't talk to anyone. She simply sat at her desk and looked out the window, daydreaming about what she could do in the dreamworld when she got home. But suddenly, she felt a pair of eyes staring at her. Turning, Fuyuko saw a girl who was sat in the desk behind her own. She had a blank expression on her face, but there was intrigue in her eyes. Fuyuko decided to ignore it.

Later, though, that same girl approached Fuyuko. She held out a piece of paper that had words on it. On it was written: You don't talk?

What a sudden question. Fuyuko looked from the paper, to the girl, and back again to the paper. Slowly, Fuyuko took out her pencil and wrote back. Not really. Not anymore.

The girl read it, then nodded. Me too.

From that day forth, Fuyuko formed a friendship with that girl, who was named Sayu. It took some time for them to be able to open up to each other, but when they got to the point where they could, it seemed to only make them closer. Fuyuko never asked why Sayu didn't talk, and she didn't plan to, just like Sayu never asked her. They spent a lot of their free time together, and Fuyuko hardly ever skipped a day of school if it meant Sayu would be there to hang out. Eventually, Fuyuko didn't need the dreamworld, and she went there less and less.

Time passed. Fifth grade ended, and middle school arrived. But even that soon came to a close, and soon enough, high school was approaching. Her bond with Sayu held out, and the two were hardly ever apart. Either she was at Sayu's house, or Sayu was at her's. In their first year of high school, the two had even made a few more friends -- Akira and Izumi. It took time for Fuyuko to warm up to their presence, and even Sayu had to adjust a little. But with time, they became a group of four, and they hung around in Wakubetsu together. Fuyuko was admittedly having more fun than she could have imagined having.

Except, in her final year of high school -- when the thought of pursuing higher education was looming -- girls started turning up dead. When she heard about it, Fuyuko felt as if her blood had run cold. All at once, she could remember the wish she had told to the woman, the illusion. The memory had faded into the background over time, but now here it was rearing its head. This time, it was the dreamworld that Fuyuko didn't want to face. Not when everything was finally feeling okay in her life.
