Into Darkness: End of an Age



Humans

The dominant species for much of history, centuries ago during the Great Wars humans were almost completely wiped out, and though not back to their past numbers or settlements, have since rebuilt.

Humans are brave, tough, and skilled physical fighters. Generally, humans prefer to be heavily armoured, and proficient with the sword.

Some humans are born with magical blood, and as such may be trained to use some or all of the four elemental magics for combat purposes - these humans are often referred to as "Magi."


Human Magic (Elemental Magic
)
Known to magical humans known as "Magi", this type of offensive magic is used primarily for combat purposes. It is a rare gift to have magical blood as a human, and an even rarer one to be able to control the powers it grants you. As such, a lifetime of dedication is needed for most Magi to make effective use of just one element. To perfectly control multiple or all four elements requires outstanding natural ability.

FIRE - the ability to conjure and manipulate fire
WATER - the ability to conjure and manipulate water
WIND - the ability to manipulate wind and weather
EARTH - the ability to manipulate nature



Elves

The oldest of the world's races, the mainland's first inhabitants' homeland now lies far to the west, a continent they discovered and migrated to during the great wars they named Harnumen. However, a great elvish city still exists on the western shore of the mainland.

Elves are highly intelligent, which along with extremely sharp senses is one of their main weapons in battle. Elves are masterful with the use of ranged weapons, but can generally hold their own with a small blade as well.

Most elves are well vested in the art of healing and treatment of minor wounds. Though invulnerable to the effects of aging, Elves can still be physically killed through combat or other means. They can however recover from minor or even some more severe wounds in some cases.


Elven Magic

Unlike the other known forms of magic, Elven Magic can not be practiced or "used" in the traditional sense. Only the wisest and most powerful Elves can control their magical abilities, but these Elves are extremely rare. For most Elves, their magic comes to them like an instinct: fuelled by emotion or dire need in important or critical situations, and with little to no ability to control it otherwise.

Elven Magic is usually associated with healing abilities and the manipulation of nature, however little is truly known about this form of magic and there are many claims as to what it can do.



Drakken

A highly intelligent reptilian species, these ancient creatures inhabit the southern desert continent of Vizishin Dunah. The Drakken generally do not concern themselves with the cares of the rest of the world, and are very few to ever leave their homeland during their lifetimes. As such, very little other than their existence is known to the mainland.

The least physically gifted of the four, the Drakken make up for their lack of agility and strength with their extreme intelligence and crafty use of magic and weaponry.

The Drakken use their magical abilities differently than the other races, using it to enhance their weaponry to construct a sort of makeshift technology. As such, their weapon of choice functions not unlike a firearm.


Enchanting Magic

Known to the brilliant but very secretive Drakken, little is known in the mainland of this form of magic. It is said that the Drakken have the ability to enchant items with magical properties, to enhance or to give an entirely new purpose.

The Drakken's best minds have studied their magical ability throughout their history, which has led to a massive library of enchantments at their disposal for a wide variety of uses. The other races of the known world have always feared war with the Drakken due to the potential this magic gives their weapons.



Dwarves

Hidden away in their mountain homes in the north of the mainland, the Dwarves lost fewer of their numbers during the great wars than the other races. With the departure of the elves, the Dwarves were free to conquer much of the mainland, and currently enjoy a time of great prosperity for them.

The Dwarves may be the smallest in stature of the four races, but make up for it with outstanding strength and ability to handle heavy weapons no others can, making them deadly in close-quarters combat.

What the Dwarves lack in magical ability, they make up for in others ways; they are fiercely loyal and determined beyond all others.
