setting-
In a world ravaged by the Dark, the cruel and the inhumane, civilization's only hope is in the hands of a generation blessed with the power known as the Insignia.

Requiem City is the crowned jewel of humanity's last standing country, where the Gifted are called to train and hone their god-gifted abilities, thus allowing them to become some of the strongest, most influential fighters in all of Imperia: Magisters.

Only they have the power to take down what lies outside the borders of Imperia; the Tenebrae -- which have ravaged the lands for years, seeking havoc wherever they go.

As an Insignia holder, a Gifted, it is up to you to shape your fate in your own hands. Will you take up the fight and challenge to be a Magister?

Initiation

  • Imperia
This story begins in the aftermath of what was believed by many to be the most brutal warfare in human history. Ravaged and left in ruins, the world is now but an empty wasteland and the only standing civilization that could be held for importance is a country known as Imperia. The country of Imperia itself is segregated into five regions: Oppidum, Baile, Tref, Miasto and Requiem, the capital city of Imperia.

Imperia is a country running and thriving on technology itself, being a light of beacon that can never be reached no matter how hard one tries from outside the walls it surrounds itself with. As the sole nation, walls are enforced as as a means of safety from the Tenebrae, the monsters that seek only to consume and destroy.

    Requiem
The Capital city of Imperia: the crown jewel of civilization. It is here where Magisters are called and raised to become defenders of humanity. One could also find the Royal family and the Imperium Castle in Requiem. It is by far the most developed and wealthy region of Imperia where only the wealthy, nobles and magisters are known to stay.

Requiem Academy; the school where aspiring Magisters go to study, is also found and located here.

  • Affiliation
Upon joining Requiem Academy, a student will be required to join an Affiliation: Genesis, Pandora or Syndicate. Each Affiliate has its own characteristics, system and morals it goes by. Once a student has chosen their Affiliate, they will be taken under the the Affiliation's wing and be identified by wearing its symbol somewhere on their school uniform.

It is an unspoken taboo to change or switch allegiances. Those who do, are usually shunned upon more so than those who are affiliate-less. Being affilate-less is not a choice, but rather a punishment by which a student is banned or kicked out of the Affiliate by the President.

    Affiliates
    Φ
    GENESIS
Motto: "Vox populi, vox sei." / The voice of the people is the voice of god
Outlook: A neutral and normal organization that wishes the best for its students. It chooses to support the will of the Academy, believing in the ideology that their superiors know best.
Leader: Jasmine Bermout, a kind and understanding individual who acts like a mother all of the Genesis members.

    PANDORA
Motto: "Audemus ad rebellandum." / We dare to rebel.
Outlook: A chaotic and audacious organization where fights seem never-ending. Similar to that of a gang, the members will follow those with charisma and social influence.
Leader: Uriah Kershaw, a wild and sporadic individual whose known to give random commands to their members. Their word is law and those who fail to follow would usually find themselves hung upside-down, naked in front of the school gates.

    Ѧ
    SYNDICATE
Motto: "Ignotum per ignotius." / The obscure by the more obscure.
Outlook: A secretive organization where power is total dominion. The members of Syndicate all have their own personal agendas which they fulfill with their cunning, strength and manipulation.
Leader: Ajax , a walking enigma whose abilities force others to submission, whether out of fear or admiration.

  • 1. There will be no deadline as this is an open RP which means anyone is welcome to join at any point of time! It is only a matter of whether or not your OC gets accepted (within RP / plot guidelines). You will know when your OC(s) get accepted bc I will list them all down in the Student Handbook Tab.

    2. POWERS CANNOT BE ACTIVATED BEFORE JOINING THE ACADEMY. Judging from a handful of the bios I've received so far, it seems that people missed out this part of the bio. Your OC will only be able to activate their abilities once they've gone through the Imprinting Process which is held upon entrance in Requiem Academy. There is no other (LEGAL) way to unlock your OCs abilities and it is not possible for one to use them without the presence of their Regalia.

    4. Your chosen ability/power must be categorize into ONE of the three types: Elemental, Arcane, Physik. So if the power you've chosen dabbles in all three or more than one, don't be alarmed if I ask you to change it. This means that abilities that copy other Anima types is a no-no.

    5. All characters are required to complete at least ONE quest before writing in the actual Roleplay. Quests can be found in the Questlog section and roleplayed out in the Questhunt thread. You can choose to solo or RP it out.

down below are some popular questions which are answered below. additional questions can be asked Insignia Headquarters and updated here.

    1. Do Elite Members have to be affiliated?
Answer: No. Elites belong in the Student Council which is kindaaa an affiliation on its own, hence the exclusivity.

    2. Do people outside the Academy know about the Exams?
Answer: Again, no. It is a dark hidden truth that no one except the graduates (Magisters), Academy staff and the Royal family knows of. I'm pretty sure no one would want to send their child in to die. Students are usually ignorant and unaware of what happens in an Exam unless they spectate or participate in them.

    3. What do you mean by 'spectate'?
Answer: Exams are held in a place similar to that of a Colosseum; the only difference is that the playing field can vary from Exam to Exam and the arena is always protected by a transparent barrier. This means no one can leave and no one can enter.

Located on the Academy grounds, students are allowed to spectate and watch matches to gain intel on their peers. Matches are also recorded by the school and occasionally broadcasted should a match prove to be 'in demand'; aka if there's no space left in the colosseum. (I mean, who wouldn't want to watch their fellow classmates kill one another right?)

    4. Do students know that people die in Exams?
Answer: Haha quotation marks on the "die". The Academy is not cruel enough to shove the reality of cold-blood murder down people's throats. That will be purely dependent on your OC's level of ignorance. At the end of every 'Exam', just before the finishing blow, all screens (if broadcasted) and the Arena will go black. The failure's body is recovered and only the Victor remains.

"Death" is heavily implied. It's only a matter of whether or not your OC chooses to accept the harsh reality.

    5. Is knowing a student's Regalia common?
Answer: If you're smart and value your life, then no. Regalias are like a Magister's Achilles heel (quoting Elenion). Without it they are powerless. In an Exam, it is not uncommon to see Students aim for their opponent's Regalia to render them useless.

While it isn't exactly kept a "secret", a student would usually not publicly announce their Regalias unless they're 1. very brave, 2. very strong, or 3. very stupid. If you're OC is a popular figure head (aka the ones with the red 'watch out' label. Yes, I'm talking about you position leaders), it is highly likely that students would scamper to figure your OC's regalia and anima type.

Anima type is also kept a hushed but not as hushed as one's Regalia. There will be classes where students are called to train their Anima and physical combat skills sooo it's not like it can be kept a total secret anyways.

    6. Why does the school hold Exams? (Phew, looks like we're finally done for now.)
Answer: (:< That's for me to know and you guys to find out.

"Lux in Tenebris"
is the motto all Magisters utter, almost like a mantra, before they leave to fight against the dark.

No one knows how they came to be but it seems to be the Goddess’ cruel will to bring the Gifted into existence shortly after Tenebrae came to be; it was almost like a sickening dance where the two sides fought for existence and dominion.

Try as people might, it is impossible for the Tenebrae to co-exist with the living. Their innate desire to destroy leaves a wake of destruction in their path. Some--and not all--are blessed with abilities that descend superhuman. Similar to that of a Magister, their powers could could range from a wide plethora of possibilities. One thing that remains constant is their demolition.

The Tenebrae can only be destroyed by humanity's Gifted. While some could be stopped or weakened by humans, a Tenebris is only known to "die" when coming in contact with a Magister. No one can explain why this is so but a Tenebris' death is indicated by their absence in body. Once properly slain, a Tenebris is known to disappear into a wisp of smoke. Its only remain is its tar-colored blood.
There are currently 6 types of Tenebrae identified: Construct, Elemental, Fiend, Humanoid, Beast and Undead.

Construct: This type of Tenebrae is classified under the norm compared to Magisters due to its ability to only materialise and/or utilise its skill as the inanimate object it materialise into. The difficulty level of defeating this form of Tenebrae is easy.
Example of this form of Tenebrae is a flying sword or shield guardian.

Elemental: Tenebrae that thrive, live off and depend on their designated elements to survive or attack with. Magisters with these elemental manipulation abilities tend to be at a disadvantage as tenebrae of this nature can attempt to use the opposite party's power for their own. The difficulty level to fight against this Tenebrae is medium. Example of this form of Tenebrae is a water serpent or fire horse.

Fiend: Commonly and also known as Tenebrae that exhibits demon and/or spiritual powers. This form of Tenebrae has the ability to manipulate the mind or subconsciousness of the Magister or individual that it comes face to face with. It may also exhibit harm with abilities like that possessed by Magisters. In short, power over mind and body. The difficulty level of defeating this form of Tenebrae is very high.
Example of this form of Tenebrae is imp and incubus.

Beast: Tenebrae of this nature takes the form of creatures that are either classfied as rare or even mythical. It might even have the ability to conjure up the abilities used by the creature it transforms to. Another advantage it has is that of its size. The difficulty level of defeating this form of Tenebrae is medium. Example of this form of Tenebrae are a warhorse and hell hound.

Humanoid:
This type of Tenebrae is also classified as a norm rather than a Magister type due to its ability of only materialising into certain human forms. Their speciality is exhibiting capabilities from that of the human form it takes on. The difficulty level of defeating this form of Tenebrae is easy. In rare cases, Magisters may encounter a subcategory Humanoid such as a giant.
Example of this form of Tenebrae is an assassin or soldier.

Undead:
Tenebrae of this nature is known more for its durability in battle or a fight rather than its ability and/or capability to fight itself. This form of Tenebrae is slightly for difficult to defeat unless the Magister defeating it has the same manipulation or power with the like of the Undead. The difficulty level of this Tenebrae is high.
Example of this form of Tenebrae is a banshee and it can be defeated by Magisters with flying abilities.

    ℝᴇǫᴜɪᴇᴍ ᴄɪᴛʏ

The Capital city of Imperia: the crown jewel of civilization. It is by far the most developed and wealthy region of Imperia where technology is most advanced and people who seek to make a name for themselves flock to. Requiem city comprises of many important places including it's Academy and the Imperium Palace.

Home to most nobles and Magisters, it is also the headquarters of most Magister guilds where requests are submitted as quests and completed for a commission fee. Only the prosperous and the determine can find themselves living in Requiem as it is considered the most expensive region in Imperia and nicknamed "the place where dreams come true". Most success stories stem from Requiem, with Magisters being a prime example.

Underneath all the pomp and glamour lies and a deeply woven web of politics and intrigue, which would be delve into further in Insignia's Sequel Roleplay (a shameless segway).

    ℝᴇǫᴜɪᴇᴍ ᴀᴄᴀᴅᴇᴍʏ

Known as the most prestigious school in Imperia, Requiem Academy is the only school known to train up Magisters, giving it an exclusivity that's well-sought after. Students here are not only trained in the basic subjects taught in regular schools but Anima training and Combat as well. Much like a boarding school, students are required to stay on campus throughout their school years and only allowed back during semester breaks and authorized vacations. The school's dormitories can be located in the west wing of the school and its Affiliations on the east.

Requiem Academy can be found near the heart of the city where large gates regulate who enters and leaves the Academy. An invisible protective barrier keeps those without an Insignia from entering in, preventing non-Insignia holders from entering in and informing the school's board of when an Insignia holder leaves the Academy. Leaving the Academy without permission is near impossible due to this.

Non-insignia holders can, however, enter the Academy if they're granted a Pass but unless you're of noble blood or high ranking status, it's likely you're tour around the Academy would be heavily supervised. (This is for the sake of keeping the secret of Exams... well, a secret.)

    ?ᴍᴘᴇʀɪᴜᴍ ᴘᴀʟᴀᴄᴇ

The home to the ruling royal family of Imperia and one of the most grand infrastructures built in Imperia. It is split into the outer palace where tourists can come to visit and the inner palace which is only accessible to nobles and the Royal family themselves. Like a museum, those who wish to visit the outer palace are required to pay a fee upon entering and are assisted by a tour guide to ensure that no unauthorized individual can stumble into the inner palace on accident.

However, on rare celebratory occasions, the outer palace may be opened to the public for celebration and decorated for said event. One of its most prominent events is the Mithra Moon Ball which happens every leap year.
