Mukai Reiji

As Reiji tags alongside the group, he was thankful that Klaus' approached Yazhu with the questions. That... wasn't something that he would have thought about pursuing, even if it was a commendable action in order to prepare for a mission. Usually, all the information that he would have needed would have been said. But, as that one saying goes, "old habits die hard, and bad habits hardly die." Still, the red haired man seemed dependable, and from what he had seen so far, seemed like a balanced candidate to take the mantle of the leader of the group, should the situation call for it.

Then on the other side of the spectrum was the musician. His eye twitched as the unnamed man's nature rears itself into the open, notably when he catches glimpse of that plain, false smile. Self-centered, conceited, and definitely grating, Reiji knew that he was going to be troublesome to work with. As he had reasoned with himself earlier, teamwork was the foundation of a successful mission, and the same was implied with the making of a plan of approach. Above all else, gathering intelligence was undoubtedly the proper path to follow whenever the opportunity presented itself. Even if attempted and nothing was gathered, the worst outcome would be starting back in square one. Best case scenario, they might find an opening and truly cut the commission to a ten minute run, which would benefit everyone in the team; Lixue would make it in time to his performance, and the rest would be able to get rid of his arrogant presence earlier. It was clear that the man wanted to rush things through for his own benefit, and even if he opposed creating friction, Reiji would have to disagree with the frontal assault tactic, even if they were lowly treasure hoarders. As Yazhu stated, they were outnumbered, and they had to account the unknown into the equation. But before he manages to formulate his words, Mu instead begins speaking what he intended to announce. Or at least, until a cannon makes itself apparent out of the humanoid's arm.

The kitsune's eyes mirror surprise as he turns to face the man on the opposite end of the glowing palm. Once Mu lowers his guard against the obviously late commissioner, Reiji's shock transitions to curiosity, following Yazhu's commentary. "Better late than never," Reiji jokes at the man in order to help ease the awkwardness. "I'm Reiji, our robot friend who you've just met is Mu. This fellow over here is... well, he's a man who needs no introduction," he improvises with a dash of wit. "And last but not least, this is Klaus." He didn't want to speak for them, but he thought it best for someone to fill in the gaps left out by their Millelith host to save some time.

"And on that subject," he continues, "I don't think it would hurt to make a quick observational tour around to see what's waiting for us. We might be able to cut the mission to a fraction of what we're expected to deal with if we manage to get some good strats out of it." His reasoning was mostly shaped at attempting to convince Lixue, who so far seemed the most inclined to go full force against the enemies ahead of them. But as things were, he wasn't sure how Klaus or this new face would tally their method. Either or, he would do his best to make whatever was agreed upon to work.

Murmux

Edrich and Ori's response pleased the ancient being, her head bobbing up and down in a slow nod as a small smirk formed on her lips. Her week-long stay in Mondstadt taught her a lot of things about the modern world. For one, modern people were quick to disregard her lengthy stories. Exotic? ...No. Extinct. Edrich taught her that word a few days ago when she spoke about her favorite animal. Anyways, Murmux learned that respect was on the verge of extinction. Thus, she was glad that a few of her audience actually listened.

She took note of Ori; perhaps she could convert her into one of her believers once this whole ordeal was over. In fact, why settle for just Ori? She could definitely convince everyone to worship her in due time. She simply had to do something marvelous, and if Edrich's intel was correct then she'd be one step to doing a lot of marvelous things.

In the corner of her eyes, she caught sight of Hayate donning a rare smile. Intrigued, Murmux followed his line of sight and realized he was looking at the ádéafung. Ah yes, stupidity is certainly amusing- enough to etch even the smallest of smiles upon a young, hardened soul tormented by a certain overlord on a daily basis. Murmux averted her gaze after Hayate tossed an extra piece of clothing towards Yuhai, the reason being the sudden warmth that enveloped her shoulders.

"I, Murmux, the god of death blesses you." She said, tapping Edrich on the forehead thereafter. Murmux knew that even the overlord himself wouldn't be able to resist her godly charm!

(Un)fortunately, before the deity could start yet another prolix spiel, a bulky figure made itself apparent from a distance. Edrich was quick to shift stance, signalling for the group to pause as he scrutinized the hairy giant. Murmux was about to inquire about the situation when the adventurer perked up with recognition. Instead, she rose a fascinated brow at the peculiar behemoth before them.

"Curious. In all my years, I've never seen such a creature." She tapped her chin as she studied Maggot's hulking form.

Sadly, her observation was cut short when something rocketed aloft and a beam of light shot forth from beyond the strange creature. She blinked once before her eyes followed the laser's trail, noting how it carved a melted line on the thick snow. Dangerous. Clearly dangerous.

"Do not fear, mortals, for I, Murmux, shall be your bulwark against this evil!" The god of death stretched a hand to the sky, a dark cloud forming overhead that released a strike of pink lightning. In its wake was a translucent spear, seemingly made out of pure energy of the same hue. With a flick of her wrist, the object surged for the Ruin Grader.

Yuhai (vFinal v3).png
Long johns and a parka. Thank goodness for Edrich and Hayate, Yuhai had no idea what he'd do without the two of them. Except now that he sntached the two pieces of clothing out of the air, he wondered if it would fit his aesthetic. Did his fingerless gloves and short-sleeved attire really fit in with a giant puffy parka? A parka was cumbersome, he definitely couldn't strike cool intimidating poses in it.

But then Yuhai shivered in the cold. There was no way that Yuhai was going to be able to refuse their offers given this atrocious weather. Besides, if Yuhai was feeling this bad, he wondered how Yao and Dao were going to survive. The poor spiders were probably shivering to death. So Yuhai decided to be grateful, "Thank you, Edrich. And thanks Hayate, you're the goat!"

Now the issue was getting the actual outfit on. Yuhai wasn't a hundred percent sure, but he was decently positive that long johns had to be worn underneath clothing. No, either way, he couldn't wear it over his clothes. He'd look too ridiculous like that. But he couldn't strip in the middle of the group to his underpants and put them on.

So in a sudden ploy, Yuhai dived into a bush and rolled around, desperately trying to put on the pants without taking off his shoes, and when that failed, without stepping his feet into the snow, which meant he had to roll around inside the bush. It was a struggle that could not be put into mere words. In fact, Yuhai was surprised that the bush stayed together.

He didn't have long to change though. Yuhai felt a strong sense of heat radiate towards him, and although he didn't know what it was, his spidey senses were tingling, pun intended. The best course of action then would be of course to leap out of the tree with a wedgie still in his pants.

After his brief time inside the bush, Yuhai didn't expect too much to have changed. But so, so much had changed. For one, he was now staring at a giant mitachurl. And one that seemed oddly familiar. Wasn't... wasn't this the mitachurl that Enki warned him about? The one that injured him for several months? This was definitely it. So why wasn't anybody attacking it? Yuhai looked until he met Hayate's eyes, a bewildered look in his expression. Hayate probably knew more about this; he would know what to do, right?

But then a rumble of thunder caused Yuhai to duck and let out a totally manly scream (it probably wasn't). It was odd that almost being torn in half by a laser didn't cause as severe of a reaction as a distant peal of thunder. But astraphobia was astraphobia. It also allowed Yuhai to follow the streak of light to realize that he had been attacked by a ruin grader.

So now, who was he supposed to attack? The mitachurl that harmed his friend, or the ruin grader that was about to strike again? Self preservation said that he should kill the ruin grader before stabbing the mitachurl, so Yuhai did just that.

"Begone! You're ruining the vibe!" Yuhai shouted as he stepped forward. From his fingertips shot a giant spider web at the Ruin Grader, which Yuhai intended to use to entangle the unpleasant bit of machinery.

Hayate

Hayate honed in on Murmux’s soliloquy on ancient history—she wasn’t entirely uncultured, he could grant her that. It would be useful information if not for the most accepted theories of antiquity being completely conflicting takes on how society functioned back in the day. Ori seemed to be a little baffled and disbelieving of her speech, but she agreed in the end; it was a trait he both admired and disapproved of. Honesty was the best policy, as his mother would say—his mother. He wondered how she was doing, an ocean away. Was she still in the habit of forgetting breakfast before setting off? Did she finally end her cold war with Yuyan? Had father convinced her to take more breaks? He didn’t know. And he would likely never know. It was a splash of cold water, waking him up to some of the enormity of what he had done.

The anemo-user took a breath and shoved his churning thoughts deep into his psyche. Not today. He would have ample time to come to terms with it far, far down the line, and he had… friends to assist right now. Focusing on his surroundings, he registered that he had already marched over the bridge in his daze—and that the most unstable member of their team had been talking to him. About goats.

Hayate stared fixedly at Yuhai as if that would give him a better view of his brain at work. “I’m not a goat. I’m clearly human.” He had to rework his own knowledge of how the hydro-user’s brain worked; the other’s one cell was worse off than he’d thought. Somehow in the process of combing through his memories on Yuhai, his mind managed to alight on an answer he rarely reached. “It was a joke... I see.”

After the dark-haired man had dived into the bushes, he mentally berated himself for that Yuhai-level folly, placing little of his attention on the dark figure approaching from the mountainside. The more the sizable person came closer in the snow, the more it was apparent that they were not a person, but a mitachurl. And that they were now less than skiff’s length away from them. Hayate prepared himself for a confrontation, but Edrich dashed his expectations of a fight by cheerfully introducing the masked brute to the group. Hayate caught the eyes of the equally confused Yuhai with a mirrored expression then stared at his companion, disturbed and more than a little concerned. What in the seas of sanity was he thinking?

Before he could aggressively question his partner, the party was broken up by a beam of blinding orange-yellow and a glowing article above their heads. In swift succession, Murmux and Yuhai both let loose their elemental abilities at the Ruin Grader—he had a fleeting thought of the irony of those two being the first to react to the sudden assault. He shook it off, manipulating wind currents to try and slow the mechanical body of the enemy as it created a buffer between it and the adventuring team.

Alex huh? That’s how she wanted to play it? Fine, it was no skin off his nose if she wished to hide her name, it's hardly like she could hide her demeanor. He looked to the other woman expectantly but flicked his vision to the floor as a mechanical whirling had sounded. His vines were only about halfway up. He jumped back as multiple traps appeared spewing flame from their cores. Fuck, now he’d done it. He got as far back to the wall as he could.

He’d never done well against fire, and he never really had to when he traveled with Yuhai. The smoke was thickening as it slowly ate away at his Dendro constructs, and there was no way for him to just destroy them now. He had more felt than saw two people landing to the side of him. A shout from “Alex” to use hydro had him reevaluating his initial delay to leave Liyue. If he’d left an hour earlier would he still be in this mess?

It didn’t seem to matter that Kitten didn’t have a Vision as whatever alchemical components she had primed seemed to do the job well enough as a pulse of water left everything soaking wet. He brought the hem of his now soaked shirt up to his face as he used the water-soaked cloth to avoid breathing in any more smoke. With his other hand, he made a waving motion of charge before running himself. The traps hadn’t stopped however, they just bought themselves some time. Soon the flames were back and now they were stuck between multiple.

“Shit they’re the Cryo type. Fine then. Get ready to breathe in some more smoke. If this works, RUN.”

Enki stood still as he raised his Catalyst channeling his vision into it. Soon it began to float, powered by its pull of his energy. He wasn’t the best at directing it when it held this much of his focus but he still did his best to make it useful, coming out as more of a cone forwards rather than his aimed line or the usual emmination. A thorny thicket came up around the traps as a shield formed around them.

So, unfortunately, a lot of things happen at once, and then everything seems to go downhill pretty fast.

Here's how it starts--

Edrich leads everyone further into the mountains, where the snow is thick enough to muffle sound and makes their footsteps sound as if they're being heard from behind a locked door. As it is now, the quiet is almost peaceful, and -- foolishly -- Ori begins to wonder if this really will be anything more than a regular exploration mission. Haha. As if it would be so simple.

After a few more beats of travel time, mostly spent watching the box boy dive into and roll around in a bush in the corner of her eye, Ori spots a hulking shadow lurking in the near distance. Edrich must have noticed it before her, because his staff is already at the ready and he gestures for them all to halt, but his hackles smooth as he appears to recognize the- shape. Ori doesn't dare put anymore of a name to the figure just yet, because as it draws nearer and nearer, Ori realizes with dawning horror

just

what kind

of a being it actually is:

a mitachurl.

And not just any mitachurl, either. A colossal mitachurl. It towers above the heads of them all, unlike any she's ever seen before, and something about the phrasing of that makes the gears in the back of her head begin to turn, wires crossing and dots connecting, and when it clicks that oh no oh no wait a minute she's heard this one before about the giant mitachurl in Mondstadt that eats people all she manages to say, voice carefully schooled to be perfectly neutral even despite the twitch threatening to take over her eye, is "...You must not be serious."

Anyways, miraculously, the giant monster joining their squad who Edrich is apparently on a first-name basis with ends up not even being the biggest problem at that moment, because then the other shoe decides to drop and box boy's shrill scream tears Ori's attention away just in time to see a glowing streak of something shoot itself at the aforementioned box-dweller and the situation decides to worsen itself by revealing a ruin grader, hunkering forward from seemingly nowhere, ready to attack whatever (whoever) it could reach.

It's probably adrenaline at this point that has Ori reacting without a second thought. She can see Murmux off to the side, calling a spear crawling with electro energy into her grip and then lobbing it at the ruin grader. Box boy shoots- something, at the ruin grader, Ori's not quite sure just what with how quickly it moves, but it seems to do the job at tangling itself around the machine. She doesn't even wait to see if Hayate's anemo ends up being effective enough of a buffer between everyone else and the machine, instead reaching over her shoulder with one hand to grasp at the handle of her greatsword as it materializes out of light. With a sharp inhale, she draws from the power of the vision around her neck and floods her sword with anemo. Wisps of green energy encircle the blade and seem to make it nearly glow. Ori plunges herself towards the ruin grader, swinging her sword around to slash heavily at whatever part of its metal body the blade can find. If she were lucky, Murmux's electro spear would be enough to help cause a swirl reaction, or even box boy's... string, if that somehow counted as an element.

Ilya Alexeev

Hydro... No, that wasn't right. She was supposed to say Cryo. Ilya watched as Katja threw over two cartridges over the traps; water and wind. And yet, this woman did not have any vision. No one has heard of such a thing and to think they were possible to do. Of course, just like everyone in the ruins Ilya was also given a surprise shower. Thanks to her cloak she wasn't as wet as the others were but what the other woman had done still worked.

Ilya was quick to follow everyone past the first trap before the second quickly started spewing back flames, keeping them in the middle of both. Of course, it's always the Cryo type. She thought to herself sarcastically, mentally beating herself up from saying the wrong element and using up what ammunition Katja has left for nothing.

"This is bad." She whispered in frustration, she used the soaked sleeves of her cloak to cover her nose as she saw Enki summoning a thicket of thorns. She can't afford to almost faint again after being healed. She should thank him later, no matter how much she dislikes him.

It was up, they could go past the trap with only the smoke to worry about now. "Go." She said to them, pushing them to take the front as she goes last. Katja. Then Enki and Bauza. Lastly, her.

When it was her walking through, the thicket broke and left her with no choice but to crawl while the others got out safely, oh and not only that... Her cloak was burning. The gods really had it out for her, don't they? Especially today, perhaps they found it funny. She's sick of it. The very moment she got out of the trap's range, Ilya quickly took off her cloak and stomped on its burning fabric in fury. "Everyone's okay, right?" She said, trying her best to stay calm but there was a clear edge to her tone as well.

  • It was quite a grand sight to see.

Murmux's electro spear nearly sailed over the Ruin Grader's head if not for the following events. Yuhai's web had made contact straight onto the Ruin Grader's weak point at its eye. Normally, this would not have been enough but added with the swirl reaction created from both Hayate and Ori's following attacks, the web had managed to entangle the Ruin Grader and made it fall to its knees. Immobilized. The following swirl reactions also caused the electro energy from the spear earlier to mix. With the addition of Yuhai's accompanying web applying hydro onto the Ruin Grader, enhanced by two swirl reactions, the Ruin Grader's body began sparking with electro energy jumping from one circuit to another.

Edrich was not far behind Ori as he reached to his side and pulled out his eskrima sticks in a flash of light. He slammed both ends together and jumped up, throwing the staff down and geo energy spiked through the Ruin Grader. He landed on top its head and jumped off to land behind it after grabbing his staff. Transparent electro shields appeared around both him and Ori who were in close proximity of the Ruin Grader.

"This thing has tough skin." Edrich muttered, spinning his staff to prepare for another series of attacks. "Just a few more!" He told the others. Thankfully, while these things were difficult to fight, they could at least damage it as much as they could— or maybe even destroy it— thanks to Yuhai's entanglement.

Klaus

Klaus smoothly slung the supply knapsack across his chest as Yazhu suggested pressing onward with a careful scout then strategy placement. After all, no prior rumors existed other than the Treasure Hoarders potentially finding an item to trigger the elemental energy surge. Within a few moments, the group migrated off toward a small cliffside. Little ants seemed to roam the area, supposedly being enough to safegaurd the entrance to the ruins . . in Yazhu's words.

Klaus paused for a moment near the cliffside's edge. His eyes merely wandered around as if taking in the view. When really, he was in deep thought.

"Alright officer, let's hurry up and head to the spot, shall we? I've got somewhere to be in an hour, and I'd hate to be late," An alternate voice piped up from out of nowhere. Klaus glanced at the familiar icy celebrity, walking, walking, and walking till- "...ahem." Rocks skittered at the foot of the cliffside, just below his pompous unpaved path. It didn't take long for the blue-haired musician to turn heel toe in his thoughts and order the group to go straight through. Klaus shifted a hand through his hair without uttering a word. Charging forth with no qualms was . . an option.

"You can go if you want," Mu spoke up, undoubtedly hesitant in the celebrity's command, "I believe the chance of casualties will rise if we attack them now. For now we should probably..." "Ahoy," Another greeting weaseled out. Klaus raised a brow at the splash of personality just a few yards away forming a peace sign at the group.

Within a few seconds Yazhu interjected to keep the clan on track. The guide stated friendly reminder that they were easily outnumbered against the Treasure Hoarders; however, they did have two vision holders at the very least. Them naturally being Klaus and Blue's Clues.

"Better late than never," Reiji joked after the newcomer's random entrance. He shortly followed with a solid group introduction before giving his own two cents on the tactical subject. A quick observational tour to cut the mission to a fraction. A level-headed take on the scenario, though they had to make a group decision. Fast.

Yazhu himself inched away into the foliage by which Klaus mildly followed suit. The redhead wasn't as eager to submerged himself into leaves, though he was concealed enough. Only then did Yazhu make the call out. No one was keeping watch. In fact, they all seemed to be putting more rocks on top of the entrance. Not only that, but there was also a trail of Treasure Hoarders working like literal ants sending debris down in a chain.

"We'll scout the area for another way in," Klaus finally suggested without shifting his gaze from the exhibition. "Returning to this mark," He continued on, striking his sword firmly into the ground as his action flowed with his words, "No more than five minutes." The redhead yanked his sword from the ground at a curved angle, giving it a casual kick on its flat end to knock the dirt off. Knowing the Treasure Hoarders, there was probably an easier way back into the ruins for their more valuable members. How often did the group hide something for the good sake of humanity . . exactly. Whether the group would find an alternate entrance or not was the question. "If a Hoarder is alerted, discreetly knock them out leaving no evidence behind. Worst case, we all engage in combat," His gaze shifted back up to the crew from the playing field, "We meet back here, same strategy." Klaus easily slid his hand into the supply pack before pulling out an unlit torch. "If that's our only entrance, we go all in. Cut their labor line flow off with an obstruction trap to stall reinforcements. Power through. Good luck," He open-endedly stated. Clearing debris from the entrance was a whole other topic. Though it was bound to take their focused time unless someone just so happened to have an explosive with them. "Otherwise, scout the alternate entrance, make our way in, scout traps, power straight through as a team. Discreet, quick," Klaus released the unlit torch, letting it fall till his boot abruptly stomped its edge into the mark his sword made. "You do your show," He stated, ending the sentence with his gaze casually planted on Lixue, "If anyone has a better idea, let us know."

"All easier said than done of course," He lightly smirked out of nowhere, "Strategy's nice and vague since nothing's ever really predictable around here." In light of it all, Lixue wasn't wrong. The less time they spent near ruins, the more time they had near . . whatever they each considered home. Klaus shifted his gaze across the small sea of faces. He really was open to any alternatively optimized plan. "I'm sure it's nothing our brilliant minds can't handle," And with that, he was off. The redhead slowly made his way out, flanking right from their starting point. His head slightly dipping behind decent coverage as he merely tried getting a better angle of the environment.

Benoit Croissant

The confidence Croissant had on his peaceful approach dwindled in an instant as soon as the metal man in shining red aimed its hand at him. A sudden intuition came upon the young man which told him that multiple things were about to approach him and whatever they were, they surely packed an explosive punch. Croissant's reflexes shouted at him to flee to the nearest cover he could possibly find, a forest of trees surrounding the cliffside. Fortunately, before his body could move, the bright red man lowered its hand. "Whew, I thought I was done for..." Croissant thought to himself. Losing a leg or an arm from his own team was a risk he wasn't willing to take as it would reduce his chances of accomplishing the test given to him by the doctor. Continuous thinking about his test's success or failure was put to a halt as the young man's eyes called his attention to focus on the metal man once more. It felt familiar, not by what Croissant sees before him, rather by certain descriptions he's heard before.

"Ah, are you also part of the group? Welcome, we were just discussing how to tackle the treasure hoarders around the area." The young man's attention shifted to the man with black hair. "I don't mind any suggestions. Though we have to face the facts that they do outnumber us... though... we at least have two vision holders." Based on everything the man of the Millelith has said, Croissant decides to use his ears instead of his mouth. Listening to what other suggestions will appear from the group.

"Better late than never." The young man's gaze turned to the man in black, or Reiji as he refers himself to. "our robot friend who you've just met is Mu. This fellow over here is... well, he's a man who needs no introduction, and last but not least, this is Klaus. And on that subject, I don't think it would hurt to make a quick observational tour around to see what's waiting for us. We might be able to cut the mission to a fraction of what we're expected to deal with if we manage to get some good strats out of it."

In a calm and curious demeanor, Croissant walks slowly to Mu. His head zooming in to the shiny red robot's face. "I am pretty sure I have heard of you before." Turning his head to the man in extravagant clothing. The young man thought to himself how he looks more of a stage performer rather than someone who took investigative commissions. "How nostalgic..." Croissant's thoughts travelled to the past when he used to wear different disguises as a means of secretly tailing down his targets. Travelling back to the present, the young man's face retracts to Reiji and comments, "I have no idea who he is at all. What is his name?" Too intrigued to look at the last person Reiji mentioned. Though curious at knowing the performer's name, Croissant kept mental notes about the situation along with the suggestions given by his group.

"Sorry to disrupt." The young man's questioning was put to a halt.

His attention was called by the Millelith, encouraged to go closer among the foliage and discreetly he did, hiding among the leaves as the other two did. The Millelith's reaction reflexively brought Croissant's eyes to the sluggish treasure hoarders slowly covering up the cave's entrance. A second look gave him further information regarding the hoarder's behavior. Though their bodies are present, it seems as if their minds are in another dimension. Before he could comment what his eyes have seen, a plan has quickly transitioned from suggestion to action already, not by Yazhu, rather by the dude with red hair, the last person Reiji mentioned. Telling the group to find an alternate route inside the cave and return to the same place he marked with his sword, telling the group with confidence, to do it all in no less than five minutes. "Five minutes?" The young man thought to himself, partnered with a sigh. Croissant felt a glass of anxiety, a pitcher of boredom, mixed altogether with a spoon of irony. He came here to do something untraditional, away from the life he used to live, and now, to pave a path to a road untraveled, the young man has to cement it with a trowel he's used all the way from birth.

"All easier said than done of course..." Next thing he knew, the red-haired man was already moving stealthily to the right of the group to carry out his makeshift plan.

"Fuck..." was all Croissant could say. he was too distracted about reflecting that he didn't pay attention to the rest of the plan, but being noticing his mistake made him remember, about the treasure hoarders and how they were acting up. And so he stands, calm and collected, with an observation in mind. "Look at them." The young man points his left hand to the sea of hoarders, his gaze rotating to each member of the group, finishing a complete 360, with his eyes returning back to the obstacle in sight. "They look like they have just smoked a gallon of drugs. They are trying to block the entrance, and yet, their weapons are left on the ground. It seems that we won't have to deal with them at all. On the other hand, what else are all of you good at? I am new here and so far I have noticed, one seems to be good with his spear, the metal man seems to have explosive... power with his hands, I have also heard of two in ours that have vision. It would be nice to get to know each other so that we can find ways of working to our strengths, no? Unless you prefer to show it with your bodies..."

Hayate

The sequence of attacks from the group had chained together surprisingly well. It wasn’t that the anemo-user thought lightly of his teammate’s abilities, but with all the revelations that had been bestowed upon him that day, it felt somewhat unexpected and gratifying to see them all cooperate so cleanly when peril landed in their waters. Perhaps the thought didn’t quite apply to Murmux with her near miss, but everyone else was in stellar shape for their first battle.

“Understood,” he called to Edrich. Since the Ruin Grader had already been immobilized by a combination of their actions and there was no need for additional anemo support with the existing swirl, Hayate sprinted to the base of the destructive automaton, choosing to damage the area its infamous lasers appeared out of. He lifted his harpoon off his back and lined it up to the location of the eye-core of the machine opposing them, aiming for the center. Stabilizing his stance for maximum impact, he pulled the icy Dragonspine winds to twine around the harpoon and made to stab deep into the glowing orb.

The vision worked better than he expected but still far worse than ideal. He saw the catgirl clear the room with ease. He was keeping up well with Bauza at least, but the thorns were already giving way to flames. He felt the heat starting to return as the flames broke through the vines. He managed to get through with minimal problems except for his jacket catching fire. He tore it off quickly to stomp out the flames.

“Shit- this was a gift dam- Oh well.”

He looked back over the others just noticing that Ilya was doing the same. He let out a sigh of relief at least they all were relatively in one piece. Still if the smoke continued without them getting out that one piece would be a smoked corpse. At least they made it to the door. He pushed expecting the door to give way but it wouldn’t budge.

    “Huh?”

He did it again and it just barely moved. He looked around its edges to find a crumbled set of hinges. Well, that would be the case wouldn’t it. He wondered if kicking it down would be more effective.

“That’s just our luck huh? Fine. This shit is coming down one way or another.”

He took as many steps back as he could without walking into the fire traps. With a pivot, he got ready to ram it down with the full force of his weight. He ran forwards slamming his shoulder to the door.

Yuhai (vFinal v3).png
That had worked out to be much better than Yuhai expected. His spider web was like a shot in the dark, fueled by adrenaline and spontaneity. He hadn't expected the attack to hit so perfectly, and so he didn't have any victory screech or pose befitting him to display. That, and the extreme amounts of elements in one place was somewhat shocking if that was even the right word. Yuhai was used to working with people who had the power to control elements, whether that be in the Treasure Hoarders alongside the other alchemists or following Hayate and Edrich in their odd adventures. The presence of electro and extra anemo was quite an unfamiliar sight to Yuhai. Through this minor shock, the only thing that Yuhai could do was shout, "Let's whale on them, boys! ... and gals."

Yuhai got his act together and decided he would do a victory pose after the fight was over. His next step was to figure out how to contribute. With many of the others focusing on the main body, the logical choice then was... to attack the joints!

"Say goodbye to your joints!!" Yuhai summoned his hydro whip and with a fancy twirl approached the restrained Ruin Grader, hydro sloshing out of the whip. This twirl also allowed Yuhai to build up some power. When he arrived at the Ruin Grader's leg, he sent the whip flying downward with a combined shout that sounded somewhat between a 'yah!' or a 'ha!' or a 'wham!' Hopefully this would mean even if the Ruin Grader wasn't dead by the time his web wore off, the Ruin Grader would still be unable to move anywhere. They could climb onto its back and stab it to death... or something.

Maggot trusted Edrich. Well, as much as he could trust any of the beautiful, really. The man had always been friendly to him, and surprisingly non-judgmental of both his past and his hilichurlian nature. If anything, he seemed to at least have some empathy for his kind, considering he had gone through the trouble of trying to learn their undoubtedly complex language. The work they had done together had always been neutral in nature, and Edrich had never tried to rob Maggot of his share.

...Which made his current situation all the more perplexing. Edrich had told him to scout ahead, and find the safest route possible. A typical assignment, considering his nature as a wilder and a traveller. Unfortunately for Maggot, Edrich had chosen fucking Dragonspine as the target location. He was really not sure if this was some sort of cruel joke or if Edrich had been paid good money to off him.

Or you might just be paranoid, and it's just a difficult task that he only can trust you with.

Granted, that was also a probable explanation, but it did not make him any less cold. His normally thick hide and fur kept him warm enough in most enviroments, but even that was mostly useless here. He had tried to compensate by donning a cloak he had fashioned from stitched hides(thankfully, not human ones, though this was more for practical reasons than any actual moral compulsions), but even that was not quite sufficient. Still, he stubbornly had trudged on despite all of this adversity, and he had been at least moderately succesful-finding a concealed quicker route than the one the maps Edrich had shown him indicated. Pleased with his success, he quickly made his descent, aiming to reconvene with Edrich's party who at this point should've made their way to their rendezvous point.

Sure enough, there they were, an array of beautiful people in assorted gear. Even from this distance he could tell how they were all staring at him-did Edrich not warn them about him? He wouldn't blame him too much for that. But it did seem more than possible that they would make a move against him. He reached into his sack, grabbing hold of a cryo slime and getting ready to form it into a shield....

But this standoff was resolved as some hot beam barely missed Maggot from behind, blasting a large portion of the ground close to him. Maggot turned around, confused, and then his confusion slowly turned into grand concern as he saw a massive stone creature-and massive was not a word Maggot would use lightly, considering his own size. He had seen this kind of creature a couple of times, though there was no shame in the fact that he had fled in all of them-the stone beast could not be eaten, after all, and it's blasts would demolish even him beyond any regeneration.

Alas, it did not quite seem like retreat was an option here, and the beautiful began blasting it with a barrage of magic. Maggot rapidly formed a cryo shield, and braced behind it, getting ready to serve as what amounts to a roadblock for the squishy beautiful people. One of them even managed to immobilize the beast, which was admirable on it's own.

Then a girl, wielding a sword that she had no right to even be able to lift-some damn God magic, he was sure, decided that charging at the Behemoth was an amazing idea, and so she did, trying to hack away at this beast several times her size. Maggot almost roared in frustration at this display, but he knew what Edrich would have him do. With a ferocious hilichurlian battlecry (roughly translating to "we will eat their hearts!", for anyone who cared to know the language), He charged with his shield full tilt into the Behemoth's legs, trying to knock it off balance and prevent it from effectively counterattacking. He made sure that he was as close to the foolhardy girl as possible, so she could duck behind his shield should the grader try to blast her off the mountainside.

The second that shield broke, Maggot knew a world of hurt awaited him, but a job is a job. He hoped it would not be something he could not regenerate from.

Mu didn't flinch when Croissant invaded his personal space. He had met his fair share of curious humans who always seemed to be in a state of disbelief in wonder whenver they met him for the first time. However, his expression did display a slight dissatisfaction of being a spectacle. Had he thought it through, he would have worn a raggedy cloak before taking this mission, even if he thought it would have been a solo mission. However, his anger was replaced by his very own curiousity once Croissant claimed to have heard of Mu. A plethroa of questions entered his mind, but he saved those questions in another file for later. After all, those questions wouldn't serve to complete this mission. Besides, before Mu could respond Croissant was off antagonizing the next person...or at least that's how Mu viewed most human interaction he found annoying.

Eventually, Reiji did the bulk of catching everyone up to speed and seemed to support a similar approach to Mu (although he never was able to fully state his position) That was when Klaus took charge, analyzing the situation, formulating the plan. Heck, he even did the honors of agreeing with the plan on his own. Mu looked on as Klaus began to enact the plan. He was either confident that everyone would follow him, or just that confident in his ability. This was the closest Mu had come to chuckling all day; it seemed their were some humans who weren't annoying after all. Since his own thought processed aligned with Klaus, Mu decided it would be best to follow him. However, he wasn't sure if the others were completely sold the idea. Particularly Croissant who seemed to want to discuss it more. He wasn't wrong, but with the late arrivals, a celebrity, and the celebrity......the damn celebrity, this mission could extend way passed te point of comfortability. Mu couldn't help but think...what would a human say in this situation.

[ACCESSING MEMORY FILES....HUMAN INTERACTION FILE 98...AUTHORIZATION KEY CONFIRMED. INITIATING SHOULDER SHRUG]

Mu gave a slight smirk and a shrug as if to say, they had no choice but to follow Klaus. He then went on to go through with the plan. Certainly they would be able to play off each other should anything arise in the future.

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* Kanbe Ori *:・゚✧*:・゚✧

Ori assumes it's through sheer dumb luck alone that, despite having been taken off guard at first, nobody seems to have died or lost a limb yet. She begins to feel the familiar burn in her arms and her shoulders as she continues to swing her greatsword at the behemoth, and it's-- well, now that they've all got a bit of a handle on the situation, it's almost thrilling, or something.

They all fall into a step and dance fairly quickly now that the ruin grader's immobilized. Edrich steps up beside her and calls up a pair of geo shields. Ori can feel its buzz of elemental energy inches from her body, and she does her best to telepathically send him a 'thank you.' Hayate's leapt forward and stunned the machine with a jab to the eye, and combined with box boy's assault on its metal joints, it's pretty safe to guess the ruin grader won't be blasting them all to bits too soon. With how smoothly they all work together, Ori can't help but feel a rush of... don't call it affection, it's not affection, that's ridiculous, you're just-- proud, of everybody, for actually being capable of doing their job, yes, that's all. Pull yourself together.

The mitachurl's there too, its shield a steady presence holding back the machine, and this kind of befuddles Ori a bit because sure, now is not the most convenient of times to start eating people, but... helping them, of all things? That's strange. Ori half-ponders this in her head, vaguely remembering something she'd heard once about a researcher who offered children extra treats if they managed to wait for her to exit and return to the room first, but she's drawn out of her head and back to the action by a slow, splintering noise. She glances to her side, at the mitachurl whose shield is beginning to garner cracks along its surface, and before she can think anything like it's a mitachurl, who cares what happens to it, the instinctual part of her brain takes over and before its shield can shatter and break she hurls herself at the ruin grader with a renewed vigor. The metal of her sword sings against the body of the machine with each slash.

Almost there. Just a few more. Just a few-- more!

Murmux

If Murmux was Rex Lapis then she would command the earth to swallow her right now. In the wake of the events, the ancient deity stood there with her mouth agape, mind still wrapping around the fact that she almost missed if not for the mortals. Everything felt surreal; she was unused to such powerlessness, and the concept of Visions that allowed mortals to conduct amazing elemental feats were still all new to her.

She silently watched as the peculiar machine succumbed to the ground, mainly thanks to the ádéafung's efforts. The rest wasted no time to rush the enemy, bombarding it with various elements and triggering a couple of reactions that would incapacitate it for good. Nevertheless, Murmux could feel her electro energy coursing through the Ruin Grader.

The familiar sensation ignited a thought within her. Perhaps instead of being disheartened, she should view this as an opportunity for research. She has no clue regarding the automation before them, just that it came into existence after her imprisonment and seems to be capable of great destruction. She figured she could seize the moment to learn more, subsequently gauging the level of power she was left with.

As the others continued with their attacks, Murmux straightened and focused on the electricity flowing throughout the befallen behemoth. A pink catalyst intricately adorned by bones appeared and hovered on her hands. Murmux immediately felt more connected with her element, allowing her to feel the components within the Ruin Grader. While she couldn't distinguish what they are specifically, she could confirm that the object before them was truly devoid of life. Sad to say that her favorite craft wouldn't be useful for this fight.

Regardless, she reckoned she could still help with fully disabling the machine. It was such a shame that everyone was congregating within its radius so she couldn't send a beam of lightning in consideration for their safety. So, Murmux decided to guide the creeping energy within the Ruin Grader and have them collide at its center, hoping that the abrupt high concentration would create a small explosion from inside.

@Monstadt People

Katja grimaced as she eyed the door and the room behind them. In the span of a brief few moments she turned her thoughts to her companions, contemplating what little she knew. She had considered them before of course, but more as the friendly if distant traveler. Instead she let the mantle of the Phantom Alchemist slip over her shoulders, unaware of the way her posture changed, growing more confident at the same time as she slipped into a battle ready stance with her ears twitching constantly to take in everything around her.

“Alex” was intensely distracting and the first who her thoughts landed on, but she knew she couldn’t let that blind her to risk. She was definitely dangerous, it was in her build and how she carried herself. To a sharp eye she seemed experienced, but perhaps not currently as sharp. Gentler, slower reactions, and ensuring the other members of her party passed by first. Low self value or heroic nature, few signs of cutthroat nature. She was also injured, although a soft part of Katja’s mind shied away from using that. More crucially she was also hiding something, and was thusly less likely to be an issue for her current concerns.

Bauza was an odd case. Competent, dangerous, more or less a complete unknown. However he struck her as a man used to moving in shadows. Her concern therefore, was which side of the law he tended to skirt. A surprising number of local shady types to Mondstadt were goody two-shoes. Ultimately he was an unknown, but that played to her favor. He likely wouldn’t have the kind of contacts necessary to get her into hot water with any real speed, and any real fuss involving someone of her infamy would disturb his own secrecy, assuming he had some.

Enki, now Enki was the real problem. Powerful, in an official position, and with legitimate standing. He was also flirtatious, annoying, and dangerous, although he didn’t have quite as sharp an edge to her awareness as the other two. Combat wasn’t quite what she was worried about though. She had never stolen from him directly, although he had been on her list for some time. He still might know enough to recognize her fairly unique style if she revealed more of it though, and he occupied a position enough to cause her real problems if he publicly associated Katja with the Phantom Alchemist. The coldly calculating part of her mind told her that she could very easily just make sure this was one adventure he didn’t return from if she bided her time. That wasn’t a part of her brain she liked to listen to though.

Ultimately she shrugged slightly, and turned her attention back to the door, only a few moments after she had started her evaluation. She had gotten into this gig for the thrills and she might as well play out the dealt hand. Worst comes to worst and she gets recognized, it will just be an added challenge. Plus hey, she would have an excuse to socialize less. Her thinking done, she reached back into the backpack on her shoulders, and with a deft practiced movement and a couple clicks, drew her sword. She didn’t carry it at her hip as Katja, the blade too much of a trademark of the Phantom Alchemist, but she made damned sure she could still access it.

The move she intended to make required extreme finesse and investment of a sword cartridge as well as potentially one of her blades. If it worked though, they would be through the door. More than that she was confident in her ruins exploration, and these ruins usually left room within them to be explored under normal circumstances. Ideally she might not even have to use any more cartridges. With the calm of true skill she entered a duelist’s stance. Her currently drawn blade was cryo, and just by the drawing of it it’s head had grown quite severely cold. More than that, it’s impact imparted that energy quite well, even beyond it’s own chill. She focused, and delivered a single strike at the same moment she activated a weak blade pyro cartridge. If she did this perfectly, the strike would instantly chill the old weary metal of the hinges, and then immediately blast it with heat, that in addition to the force hopefully destroying said hinges. If she was very lucky the blade might not even explode, shatter, or break off.

  • A Ruin Grader was a being that was feared throughout Teyvat; for they were bigger and sturdier than their Ruin Guard brethren. Still, the group had managed to incapacitate one in such a short amount of time that it was almost astounding. Yuhai's hydro whip slashed deep into the Ruin Grader's Armor and it was completely taken off by Maggot's efforts. The machine whirred in what could be said as pain, or its core trying to assess the damage done on its body.

For a moment, its eyes flared with "life" until Hayate's harpoon cracked right through it. Ori's claymore strikes cleaved through the Ruin Grader's armor and Edrich himself struck the exposed core at the back. The Ruin Grader still whirred to life after so much damage and something in it began ticking.

    BOOM!

In front of Ori, a miniature explosion caused the center of the Ruin Grader to cave out. Thankfully, none of the mesh of wires hit Ori or Edrich who was at the back.

The Ruin Grader fell back and Edrich scampered out of the way with a small whistle. "You know, that's the fastest I've ever seen a Ruin Grader fall. Good job everyone!" He mentioned, the crystallized shields he had created earlier flickering out of power. "Good job on that deactivation Yuhai, that really helped a lot." He called out to the young thief before moving to Ori and giving her a pat on the head and a nod. "I see you're not rusty anymore Murmux, glad you're back on track with the whole controlling your electro thing." He could still remember the first time they had met each other when she was bested by a mere pyro slime. Thankfully, the week of rest and familiarization seemed to do her good.

He quickly reached into the inside of his jacket and threw Maggot a warming bottle. "There you go Maggot, that should help with the cold from your travel up." The warming bottle was certainly almost hot to the touch, but a welcome reprieve from the sheer cold of Dragonspine. Just keeping it near could provide temporary warmth though the artificial seelie inside was going to run out of time soon.

He turned to the others, keeping himself between the mitachurl and the other members of the group, an easy smile on his face. "Well guys, this is Maggot. He's a mitachurl I met before and he's gonna help us climb up to Dragonspine. I sent him first to scout the area and see if we can get to our destination faster." He explained before looking back at Maggot. "So, did you find a faster route up?"

Hayate

Hayate let out a small smile of relief once the Ruin Grader tipped over, brushing his hair back with a hand from the mess the resulting airflow had created. “It was a good fight,” he added after Edrich finished his congratulatory rounds. Truly, none of them were unnecessary, even Murmux, though small her difference may be. Ori was as stable with her strikes as always, and Edrich covered the bases where nobody else did. Yuhai had been more critical to the battle than he’d assumed, which was surprising, but he should have remembered his webs — so really, it was he that hadn’t taken all factors into consideration. His mood stayed high until his sight landed on a certain mitachurl.

The anemo-user finally remembered more pertinent matters. Such as: why was there a mitachurl named Maggot guiding them up a mountain, when had his not-entirely-sane partner dubbed Edrich met him, and how was the same clearly-not-rational teammate sure that he was trustworthy? The length of time spent defeating the Ruin Grader had dampened his initial urge to strangle Edrich and enlightened him to the fact that the mitachurl was capable of working together with the group — so he wasn’t as against buff hilichurl joining as he was originally — but it still made him uncomfortable. All the instances where their adventuring team had ended up beating mitachurls to the other side flashed through his mind and caused his expression to twist into a grimace. Hayate moved to Edrich’s side and settled with, “Are you sure he’s trustworthy? I don’t like this, but if you say he has to stay, I won’t comment on it further.”

At Edrich’s formal introduction of the mitachurl, the white-haired man pursed his lips and nodded. “May the storm steer clear of your shore, Maggot. My name’s Hayate. It's unlikely that we'll be friends, but we can at least be allies for this trip.”

The door gave way to their combined efforts and they rushed away from the flaming room behind them as they went forwards. But instead of meeting with any form of relief, they were instantly faced with a choice as three doors stood in their way. A bird, a snake, and a dragon. He wondered if there was some greater riddle here or if it would just be trial and error until they found their way. He didn’t really like the idea of getting it wrong.

It was one thing to face the consequences of their own choices and it was another thing to face the consequences of a cruel god’s joke. He could only assume that it was a god’s joke. It made no sense otherwise as he hadn't seen anything that pointed to the floor being unstable. Unfortunately, he would have to make the best of it. He wouldn’t be surprised if it was Morax’s way of getting back at him for his flagrant use of his statue as a napping perch. Though he knew better than to voice his suspicion if he wished to still be welcome in Liyue Harbor.

“Well which will it be then? The Mondstat bird of Freedom, The Sumerian Snake of Wisdom, or the Liyuan Dragon of Contracts?”

BAUZA

With the door fortunately not flattening everyone like pancakes, Bauza cautiously enters the next room. The rush of cold air felt like an icy breeze compared to the molten heat in the previous place. As much as Bauza enjoys the heat, he enjoys being free and able to eat even more, so he knew he couldn't stay there forever. After looking at the trio of doors, he looks at what was left of a message. It appears to be some kind of riddle. As he continues to examine the room, he hears Enki speak.

"Good question. I'm guessing this message still provides enough words to give us some sort of clue as to which is right and which is wrong." He turns his head towards the torches. "Those torches have also caught my attention. Why are they unlit, and why only two of them if there are three doors? I could light them up easily, but it's better if we at least have a little understanding of their purpose here before I do so."

At long last the ruin grader falls. Ori holds her breath for a moment as she waits for it to rise again, but no, it crumples in on itself in a mechanical explosion and then doesn't move again. Someone cheerfully patting her head like a housecat (Edrich, who else) is what snaps her back to the current situation, and she resists the urge to bat his hand off, also not unlike a cranky housecat.

She follows Edrich out of the corner of her eye, back to where he stands... much too close to the mitachurl, in her opinion. Okay. Alright. Sure. Why not.

Ori heaves a breath and she swipes one tired hand down her face, stopping to pinch at the bridge of her nose. With the other hand she drops her sword back into the open arms of a liminal space and watches it vanish in a wisp of light specks. Then she pauses. Counts to ten, in her head.

"If nothing else," Ori begins, swivelling herself around to rake an eye over each of her companions and ensure all their limbs are still there, "...we were fortunate that everyone here seems to be at least capable enough a fighter to remain physically intact." Box boy surprisingly included, she does not add, mostly because she KNOWS he must have an actual name that is not box boy and she swears she just heard someone say it but for her life she cannot remember what it is. Maybe the cold's finally getting to her.

Anyways, apparently Maggot is its- his name. Ori crosses her arms and examines the mitachurl through narrowed eyes. She then decides that thinking about this any longer is going to cause her to explode, and that won't do, when they're not even all the way up the mountain yet, so she simply says, "I am choosing to trust your judgement on this, Edrich," and that is that.

Ilya Alexeev

If it wasn't traps they had to deal with, it was riddles. Not only that, it was missing some words too. As if the day couldn't get any worse, Ilya only further scowled at Enki's poetic words, at least that's how he sounded to her. Besides as someone who came and studied in Sumeru, he should've just chosen a door since he's so smart.

Golden-colored eyes roamed the area. Nothing was there other than what they see in front of them. "Then light them up. I don't see the harm of lighting a few torches. It will help us see better." She said in an annoyed tone to Bauza after his rambling on the unlit lighting device. "There isn't anything more we can investigate here anyway."

She took a step closer to the doors, feeling drawn to the door carved with a bird. "This one." She said as she turned to Enki. "If you ask me which we should choose, I'd go for the bird."

    Chain || Enki’s CS File

The riddle clearly had something to do with these doors. It's too bad that he’d never really studied up on riddles like this. Doing nothing was sometimes better than doing something but that required some implication that inaction was the correct choice. Unfortunately it wasn’t looking like this would be the case here. If only they had more clues. He wondered if the doors were even openable or if they just had one choice here.

    “From the ground... rise…”

He began to point with his finger to the ground and then to the ceiling as if expecting it to be directions of some sort.

“... wings soar... fear and terror…”

Soaring could mean to the sides directionally but there his attempted failed as the fear and terror line was added. Unless for some reason they meant the touches in front of them with it. Or the doors?

    “death, a mercy... fire…”

Death was certainly a mercy for some but he did hope that this didn’t mean that they had to set someone on fire to advance. He kept the idea in the back of his head as at least Bauza would be able to do this without the dying part.

“scales of purple, beasts of burden
    An adepti's wish... downfall..."

He let out a sigh as he read the last two lines without a single clue as to what they might mean other than to indicate that the writer was at least familiar with Liyue and Mondstat. He couldn’t imagine any animal with purple scales, and with it being a beast of burden he could only imagine these went together to mean the divine beasts, and anyone who’s stepped within five-hundred feet of Liyue was familiar with their love for their adepti.

“Well as much as I hate to admit it it's not looking like we have many options here. I can’t make heads or tails of this riddle. Maybe it is best to just light the torches and keep on.”
