Nameː Mackenzie Fox

Nickname(s)ː Mack

Age: 25

Genderː Female

Heightː 5'6"

Sexual Orientationː Bisexual

Appearanceː Mack has always looked younger than she appeared. Willowy and without much of a bust, at 25 she could still pass for a teenager. To make matters worse, she hasn't grown much since then either. Eternally 5'6", Mack has dirty blonde hair that barely extends past her shoulders and blue eyes that sometimes change into different shades of blue dependent upon her mood.

Face Claimː Samara Weaving

tumblr_p4gjytZiNy1x0uneyo1_500.gif

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Mackenzie's personality has always been something like a glacier—majestic and operating mostly below the surface. For that reason, people typically find her fascinating (or frustrating, depending on the situation).
Passionate, impulsive, committed, and dedicated, with a zest for life that can't be tempered or ignored—Mack only goes all in or not at all; there's no in between. She tends to oscillate between alluring and standoffish, making her tough to get to know—and even tougher to gain her trust. It doesn't help that she's definitely not one to forgive and forget. She's also not afraid to say what other people are thinking, and her sometimes cynical take on the world is creative, smart, and funny as hell. From a young age she was blessed with a deep sense of self, always ready and able to say exactly what is on her mind; even if it's not what people want to hear. Mack's tendency toward secrecy serves as a protective barrier between others and the potential for pain and heartbreak. But no matter how formidable she seems, the truth is that she fears her own vulnerability. However as guarded as she is of her own feelings, she's equally protective of those close to her.

Fearsː Emotional/Mental Vulnerability, Spiders, Tight Spaces

Hopes: To one day leave Deadwood, Find her sister, Stop the bad ju-ju

Worst Nightmareː She isn't much of a fan of spiders and believes that the world would be a much better place without them, but that isn't really her biggest fear. The thing that she fears the most is not only fading to obscurity, but being locked away where no one will ever find her. Things like being buried alive and being forgotten about or being tied up and left to rot in the woods. Alone, starving, and no one gives a shit.

UPBRINGING;
The daughter of a cop and an elementary school teacher, Mackenzie Fox is the youngest of two fraternal twins. Unfortunately, due to childbirth complications, her mother left the picture hours after Mack and her sister were born, taking their father’s heart with her. Unable to handle the pressures and responsibilities of being a single Dad, a majority of the twin's infancy was spent in the care of their maternal grandparents. Who doted on the twins though it was never enough to fill the void left by absentee parents.

By the time Mack started walking, she had developed an unquenchable taste for adventure. It's no surprise that her wanderlust often lead to trouble and even less surprising that Mack actively sought out danger for the thrill. Stealing her Grandfather's pick-up to take trips to the grove or to death ranch were frequent and enough of an unwanted nuisance for the Sherriff's office to get a few calls. Especially when she involved a miniature gaggle of what Karen Clifton called: 'local hooligans'. When Mack was 13, she was full of dreams, hopes, and plans to never die in this town like most people were content to. She wanted to be a stunt driver, a ghost hunter, or a mountain climber, even an airplane pilot--anything that would take her far, far, away. Such desires were often abruptly dismissed in the Fox household. Mack's father and grandparents had lived in Deadwood their whole lives and none of them ever thought once of leaving. Even Milly was content with the town's quiet, mundane, pace.

An outcast even within her own family, Mack began to act out—at first it was small stuff, breaking into abandoned buildings, loitering on private property, and door-bell ditching the Mayor's house. But as the childish antics began to get boring, Mack stepped up to more serious acts of rebellion. Auto theft, Illegal Street Art, Arson—three of her favorite things to do in 1995.
All of that changed the moment her and her friends stepped foot in Whitechapel Manor.

LEAVING DEADWOOD;
Life has a way of never going according to plan. After Melissa's disappearance, and subsequent death, the world changed for Mackenzie. She hardly had an interest in something that wasn't about Whitechapel Manor or Deadwood's history. Mack finished high school by the skin of her teeth, and afterward she didn't really have a direction to her life. There were no dreams to chase and not many hopes left. One by one the people around her began to go their separate ways, leaving the past behind them. Only Mack stayed. And she never left.

Jeff Fox - Father
Emma Austin - Mother (deceased)
Gladys Austin - Grandmother (presently deceased)
Frank Austin - Grandfather (presently deceased)
Charlie Chambers - Sister's friend

Nameː Charlotte Annabel Chambers

Nickname(s)ː Charlie, Charls (younger), Char

Age: 25

Genderː Female

Heightː 5'4"

Sexual Orientationː Closeted Bisexual

Appearanceː Although average in height, Charlotte has always been a bit stockier than the other girls. Her neck has remained lean and long all her life, but her torso and hips have slowly developed from a standard rectangle shape to a bit of curve with age. Her skin is warm toned, complimenting her hazel eyes and honey-toned blonde hair. Her wide eyes tend to betray any neutrality she may be conveying with her body, and are usually brimming with a glossy shine of tears. She tends to wear fairly casual clothes, sneakers and hoodies acting as accessories to her favourite pair of battered jeans.

Face Claimː Florence Pugh (older), Natalie Alyn Lind (younger)

XBmiaw1.gif

tenor.gif

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Charlotte has always been an aloof, distracted individual. Ever since she was young, she'd always be off looking out windows or staring down the cracks in plaster. Her mind is constantly active, worst and best case scenarios flying through her cerebrum all at once. Making friends was hard for the girl, seeming odd and quiet to her peers, but the ones she made she treasured with her entire body. Emotional experiences always resonated much deeper with Charlotte, a 'crybaby' to say the least. Her father would mock her for her emotions, so she constantly beat herself up for her emotional capacity. She cared deeply for everything and everyone, always siding with her friends and trying to play the peacemaker. Her mental health deteriorated from elementary school to early high school, with home issues and traumatic events picking away at the masks she put up. She was always one day closer to a mental break, and when it happened, it was the start of the end. When her father died, it struck her the hardest.

Growing up, and after living in Deadwood, Charlotte made quick to dispatch her weaknesses. Her aunt got her a therapist in the city and she went every week. Coping strategies and venting aside, Charlotte made a vow to completely change as a person. Blooming into adulthood, she became more curt and irritable-- as a consequence. She sucked in her emotions to capacity, putting on a brave face and beating herself up about it later. Anger became a great way to transform her sadness, though she likes to coat it in wit and sarcasm. She never means to harm, but especially when targeted, she'll go on the defense with barbed wires. She knows how to fake interest, attraction and to carry on with auto-pilot engaged. In times of severe stress she reverts to her distant self, often making rash and impulsive decisions for her safety. Despite pushing everyone away, or keeping them at arm's distance, she deeply wishes that someone would see through the pain she hides so well.

Fearsː Her father (even though he is dead), dead bodies, loneliness (physical and emotional), and clowns.

Hopes: Success in the workplace, have a deep and complex (stable) relationship with someone, to not live a long and endured life-- but a short and cherished one.

Worst Nightmareː Being trapped, utterly and hopelessly, with no way out and without anyone to save her.

CW: Death, Abuse

Charlotte was born in Deadwood, youngest (and only) daughter of Earl and Theresa Chambers. They lived just a bit off the beaten path, where Earl and Theresa operated the Deadwood Funeral Home. It was just across the street from the Deadwood Cemetery. One of her earliest memories is looking out the window, just shy of four years old, and seeing the sea of headstones. They looked like broken teeth to her, but she was entranced nevertheless. Fear above interest, and she was always caught by the window-- staring.

Earl and Theresa had had a rough relationship, the business being one of the only things keeping them together. Their daughter was a feeble attempt by Theresa to reignite the relationship, as she loved her husband dearly, but Earl was a distant drunk who spent more time with the coffins and corpses than his own family. Despite such, Theresa tried to hide their fights and shouting matches from Charlotte. She'd throw a pair of headphones on the girl and plug her into the walkman; blasting some alternative or new wave. With all the music Charlotte listened to, it was no wonder her creativity flourished so early in life. She began by doodling on the walls, marker in the rough carpet fibers, and eventually redirected to a roll of drawing paper.

She grew up adapting to her parent's rocky relationship; at some point fully aware that the bruises on her mother's arms and face weren't from being clumsy. She sought to explain away these circumstances, beginning the inner turmoil within Charlotte.

School was a reprieve, as much as Charlotte clung to her mother. Despite having no friends at first, eventually she attracted a friend or two. Having someone to be with outside of home ended up being a positive for Charlotte, but a negative for her mother.

When Charlotte was eight, a young boy arrived at their front door. He was in his late teens, with curly blonde hair and a similar smile to Earl Chambers. The boy, Matt, explained that Earl was his father. Charlotte asked how old Matt was, and he replied that he had just turned eighteen. Earl and Theresa had been married for twenty years.

In the dead of night, after taking the boy in, Theresa disappeared. She left only a feeble note for Charlotte, in one of her drawing books, with some pitiful excuse for why she was leaving. Charlotte felt betrayed, in fear of what would happen, and more alone than ever. Matt was a flighty kid, reminiscent of their father in his earlier years, but he tried to be some kind of an older brother to Charlotte. He bought her cassettes and drawing pencils, but never managed to give her a hug once. Earl, distraught at his wife's leaving, became more malicious at home. At the beginning, he wouldn't raise a hand at Charlotte. He would turn away, blubbering with tears and anger. Eventually, though, after a few beers, he actually slapped her. It only escalated from there, with Charlotte spending most of her evenings in her bedroom-- but his rage could not be held behind any doors.

Business continued, Earl forcing Charlotte to assist him at work. At around eleven she saw her first dead body, making the girl start sobbing on the spot.

Her friends became a stronger force for her, and Charlotte clung to them when she could. But Daddy always came calling for her to come home.

-

After The Events, Charlotte could only fold deeper and deeper into herself. She began to grow paranoid, the compulsory voice in her head a little more darker than before. Breakdowns were every week for Charlotte, her self-esteem and self-being draining each time. She pulled away from her friends, especially after a very public breakdown she had at school. Her brother picked her up from school that day, as her father wasn't answering the landline. When they arrived home, Earl Chambers was dead.

That was the straw for Charlotte. She broke down completely, and with custody now falling to Charlotte's aunt who lived in Seattle, she was whisked away. She barely had a chance to tell her friends, and for the most part she didn't want to. Driving away from Deadwood, Charlotte didn't look back.

--

After everything, living in Seattle turned out better for Charlotte than she'd imagined. Her aunt was a breath of fresh air, much more lax and communicative than her father had been. Even Matt stuck around a bit more, but he'd met a girl in Lacey and they were living together there. Charlotte in the city came with benefits: no one knew her and she could make a new life for herself. Therapy was the first step, although she was petrified of the idea. Her aunt, a psychologist, insisted that it would be the best for her. Indeed, it was. Although she continued to mask herself, truly afraid of confronting her own self and demons, she still ended up improving her psyche.

After high-school she jumped right into community college, pursuing a degree in management and fine arts. While in school, she started a zine with a few peers. This bloomed into a serious publication, and Charlotte found her new interest in photography. Jumping from the self-made zine, she found herself working as a columnist for a local fashion magazine. This job eventually transitioned to junior editor at MAXIS, an underground fashion and subculture magazine. She's been living a relatively simple life since then, living in an apartment in Soho with her bed occasionally filled with blind dates and one-off hookups from the local bars.

She never imagined she'd ever have to think of Deadwood again. Although, always, Milly has remained in her conscience.

Relationshipsː
Theresa Karlsson - mother, remarried and living in Sweden
Katherine Chambers - aunt
Matthew Cook - half-brother

Michael A. Gray

B A S I C S

Nameː Michael Anthony Gray

Nickname(s)ː Anything

Age: 25

Genderː Male

Heightː 6'0"

Sexual Orientationː Straight

Appearanceː Michael used to wear a lot of beanies, baseball hats, and anything else to cover up his mop of unruly hair. It was easier than trying to style it. As an adult, he cut it shorter to appear more professional and ended up liking it. Speaking of which, his hair is a dirty blonde color. He always has a curious look in his amber-colored eyes and a thoughtful expression on his face. He's also on the skinnier side. He typically wears jeans and a jacket or hoodie, regardless of temperature or season.

Face Claimː Tarjei Sanvik Moe + Andrew W. Walker.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

In his teens, Michael was typically a very shy and reserved person. This reclusive behavior was only reinforced by his love of things like Dungeons and Dragons and video games. It wasn't that he was necessarily anti-social, he just enjoys solitude. It's energizing to him. However, Michael always seemed to find himself being dragged along by his small group of friends, usually into trouble. He definitely wasn't a rule-breaker, at least not when he could help it. Getting in trouble was something that was extremely distressing to him. Like most kids his age, Michael was very awkward and self-conscious, especially when it came to his dorky interests. His friends always made him feel comfortable though; their little clique was a safe place for him to be himself. One of his biggest weaknesses is his inability to say no to people, especially his friends. He hates having to tell people no. Despite his quiet nature, Michael is a very animated, and often times loud, person when he's around folks he's comfortable with. He was also a very industrious kid, always striving for the best grades in his classes.

As he reached adulthood, Michael began to embrace his eccentricities. He became more confident in himself and realized who he wanted to be. He's still the quiet, disorganized, and nerdy kid from Deadwood, Oregon at heart, but now he's much more self-assured. He never really became more of a social person though and still has very few friends. He's grown into a more "see it to believe it" kind of person; although, Whitechapel Manor and its skeletons will always be frightening to him.

Fearsː
- Scared of heights
- Absolutely terrified of Whitechapel Manor

Hopes:
- To move on and forget about his past in Deadwood
- To become a successful engineer

Worst Nightmareː Because of their similar personalities, Michael felt closer to Milly than anyone else in their group. When she vanished, he felt responsible, and that eventually led to him breaking off contact with Mackenzie. He's plagued by nightmares that involve one, or both, of the sisters blaming him for Milly's disappearance.

H I S T O R Y

Michael was born in California, where his father worked as a criminal defense lawyer. When he was five years old, just two years after his younger brother was born, his father was diagnosed with a fatal disease. He passed away one short year later. After that, Michael's mother decided to move to a small town in Oregon. Deadwood, Oregon. It was a big change for the family, but Michael was young enough for it to be a pretty smooth transition. This is also when his older brother introduced him to games like Dungeons and Dragons and his fascination with fiction and fantasy began.

As a teenager, Michael spent most of his time doing one of two things: homework or video games. If he wasn't in his room, he was most likely being forced into social situations by his friends. The thought of going out wasn't fun, but actually going out was enjoyable to him. He was also a diligent student and loved math and science. His brother eventually moved back to California, which was hard for Michael. The two of them were very close and Michael looked up to his brother as a parental figure. He drowned himself in schoolwork and extracurricular activities to distract himself. He eventually got over it with the help of his friends. When Milly was declared missing, Michael shut himself in his room for days, much like when his brother left.

Michael slowly stopped hanging out with his friends as the years went by and, by his senior year, he spent his free time sitting quietly in his room. As high school came to a close, Michael planned to move to Massachusetts to attend a college on the east coast. It wasn't his first choice, it wasn't even in his top five, but he wanted to get as far away from Deadwood as quickly as possible.

Nameː Elizabeth Tran

Nickname(s)ː Liz, Lizzie, Goth

Age: 25

Genderː Female

Heightː 6’0

Sexual Orientationː Straight

Appearanceː She’s unusually tall for her age, being 6’0 at 25, and 5’4 at 13. For a while this was a subject of insecurity for her, but she grew to enjoy it as she got older. She also wears glasses that she found fashionable, making the switch from spectacles to hipster glasses as she got older.

Face Claimː Aubrey Anderson Emmons

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Then:
She was a very curious girl. Though she was mostly polite, she prioritized urban legends, and mysteries over making friends with the other kids, not quite thinking about how rude she was behaving, when she cancelled hanging out with friends to spy on the Death Ranch, or turn down a date with a guy she likes, to stand in line for the new Stephen King novel.

Now: Since the events of 1995, she’s been traumatized out of fascination with the paranormal. She’s become a social butterfly, and now values relationships over the truth. Her gut instinct when talking to anybody about her past , is to turn it into a joke, or just straight up lie about her childhood.

Fearsː

13- Blood/Not having all the answers.
25-Blood/Being alone

Hopes:
13-To become a paranormal investigator
25-To never return to her old town

Worst Nightmareː
13- Her parents threw away all her Stephen King books.
25- She was back in her hometown, and face to face with everything she’d encountered before.

H I S T O R Y

Elizabeth was born to Jessica Morton-Nguyen and John Tran. She was the third youngest of her siblings, and the fifth oldest. Growing up, she wasn’t given too much attention, and her role was delegated to spending time with her younger siblings. This meant she was able to get away with much more than usual.

This lack of supervision lead to her having an affinity for horror novels. What started with reading Carrie, developed into wandering around town, learning about the urban myths. The only thing her parents restricted with her was to learn about the myth of Edith Alby.

Though confused as to why that would be unacceptable, she agreed since her parents threatened to take away her horror novels, if she did look into it.

When she’s not skulking around the town, she’s spending time in Nevada, with Grandma Morton. Though she doesn’t understand Lizzie’s fascination with the paranormal she loves her nonetheless. She’s begged Lizzie multiple times, to move in with her, but Lizzie always says that she’s not willing to give up the town and it’s mysteries.

Relationshipsː
Her brother’s friend has a little brother who has a huge crush on her. She’s not interested in him, since he hates the occult, but she would run to him if pushed far enough off the ledge......

Sexual Orientationː Straight, or at least he comes off that way. More-so closeted.

Appearanceː Dave is a thin to average built man reaching a height of 185 cm. He has medium-length black hair that is somewhat combed, but not with high effort. He has dark brown eyes and subtle facial hair above his mouth and on his chin. He usually wears an old baseball cap with a similarly coloured t-shirt along with jeans and worn-out sneakers. Under his t-shirt he layers a black long-sleeved shirt.

Dave is a somewhat arrogant individual who takes high regard in people who work hard for the things they have. He’s usually a pretty lax guy who does all he can to prevent people from fighting or any issues from arising, but he has a hair-trigger temper and the smallest things can really piss him off. He believes that in some situations, there’s no point in trying if you can’t be number one.

Fearsː Dave is very uncomfortable with the ideas of losing being forgotten, or pushed aside. He is also terrified with any snakes that aren’t grass snakes.

Hopes: He hopes to one day play in Major League Baseball for whatever team he finds interesting.

Worst Nightmareː His worst nightmare is failing in a situation where everybody relies on him. It’s not usual that people would look up to a guy like him, but he’s scared of letting people down nonetheless.

H I S T O R Y

Growing up, Dave didn’t have much adult influence in his life. He skipped a lot of school, had no father figure, and his mother was never around. He fended for himself on the daily, always making time to practice Baseball. Dave found Baseball as a kind of escape, a way to relieve himself. He’d play for different school as a placeholder in case a player was injured or a no-show.

As he grew up, Dave would soon enroll himself in school. He studied hard and eventually caught up with his peers. As he grew closer to graduation, Dave had officially become a member of his school’s baseball team. He practiced hard, struggling to balance both his grades and sport. For a while, he quit the team in fear that he wasn’t as good as the others. He blamed himself for this because of how late he had begun his studies. He continued to practice and play for other teams, but he tried really hard to keep his grades up. He contemplated on dropping out, but ultimately decided not to. He focused now on both grade and sport. He rejoined the team, but his grades weren’t as good as they were previously. They weren’t bad, in fact, they were average. It was a struggle for him not to be top of his class, but he believed it was better for him to pursue what he loved.

As Dave became of age, he graduated normally among his peers without any of the special awards or ceremonies he hoped for originally. He still wanted to play baseball as a career, so decided that he would want to leave Deadwood to pursue his career. He found himself at another crossroad, leave Deadwood and do what you love or stay in Deadwood and find a new thing? Reconnect with your friends? He didn’t know what to do, and he was scared of the consequences of every decision he would possibly make.

Relationshipsː Unnamed father • Ava, his mother • A small handful of his friends in high school who he grew distant from before the year ended.

Appearanceː Cal is somewhat tall along with lean and lanky. His slicked back, jetblack hair and scruff somehow match his usual tired slightly sunken eyes. Most can't tell without further inspection.

Cal might attempt to act aloof, but his concern for the average stranger gets him into trouble more often than not. If he sees injustice he can't help himself, he needs to step in. On the outside, it usually looks like a guy who likes starting fights. He doesn't always win, but he tends to be vengeful. Other than that, he's relatively uncaring. He doesn't know what he wants to do in life, all he's good at is fighting and part of him hates it while the other is afraid that he likes it.

Fearsː Needles, Being attacked in his sleep, That he'll never find a real home

Hopes: To get out of Deadwood, find a place to call home

Worst Nightmareː He'll be responsible for the death of an innocent person, Feeling Helpless, His father.

1600506638306.png

H I S T O R Y

During Cal's youngest years, his parents just having moved from Left Hand, West Virginia, to live out their dream of living near the coast. His father was having trouble finding a job. The father was a retired army grunt didn't have much experience, so he took a job at the lumber mill after multiple janitorial work attempts. Cleaning shit didn't suit him well outside the service. The mother was a stay at home mom, and pretty happy with her lot in life away from her disapproving and rather old-fashioned family.

A little less than a decade later, the family was still considered outsiders to Deadwood. Cal was now in grade school, and the mother was working part-time as a nurse. Being fed up with his hands being raw and callused every night, the father managed to become deputized. The uniform suited him well, and he liked the way his family smiled when he came home without any dirt staining him head to toe.

Things took a turn for Cal when, after a decent hunting trip with his dad, he came home to find his mother lying on the ground unconscious. Six hours later, they would find out that she had stage 4 lung cancer, inoperable. She died 2 months later. The father was much more distant from then on. He stuck around for Cal's sake. He'd rather his son didn't fall into foster care or, worse still, back to his in-laws, as his own parents were already dead. It was better to stick it out for his son, if for nothing else.

Throughout his school life, Cal was always an outsider. The other boys liked to pick on him, and every once in a while, it meant walking home with a black eye. Eventually, the other kids started walking home with bloody noses. As words got twisted around, Cal soon enough became known as the bully, or at the very least, the one you're meant to shun if you didn't want to be laid out. It suited him well enough, as his size eventually caught up with the others. He did fine in academics, but never above average. He didn't care about sports. The only thing he was good at was fighting. It seemed like father, like son.

One night after an incredibly lousy baseball game during the summer, Cal caught a few guys giving a girl a hard time and managed to distract them by getting his ass beaten long enough to get away. Three on one weren't great odds, but Cal was never very good at math. The girl who introduced herself as Milly was kind enough to rope him into her small group of friends. Things were good for a while.

Cal came home on graduation day and left with a familiar feeling he'd had almost seven years ago. His father was slumped over the table with a gun in his head and a bullet hole. With nothing left for him in Deadwood, he joined the Army like his dad. Although, no matter how hard he resists that urge, something seems to always pull his mind back to the small town in the deadwood.

Nameː Liam James Forester

Nickname(s)ː Lee (what he's usually called), Jimmy (a pet-name reserved for very-close people)

Age: 26

Genderː Male

Heightː 6'4"

Sexual Orientationː Homosexual (Closeted and dumb about it)

Appearanceː Lee doesn't have the most bulky build imaginable, but he is rather tall. Not willowy, not quite rugged, he's an in-betweener in everything besides his height. That of which came as curious endowment, considering he was a pipsqueak punk in his early days.

Lee does have a curious smile, which is worth noting, considering its somewhat of a birth defect. When he speaks, it's likely the corner of his mouth hitches, despite his knowledge. Smiles are always half-smiles, because that's how his face works. A source of discomfort (and teasing) as a youth, he's grown into it, and reinvented it in the trappings of charisma.

He has many tattoos (high school/bad decisions), but as he's aged, he tends to cover them up.

Lee is comfortable with many things, because he knows nothing ever goes his way. As a youth, he rebelled against his shit luck (and bullying) by being an angsty, erratic, explosive little thing with far too much piss and vinegar in his veins.

As an adult, he takes things as they come, and tries to find rational, usual solutions when he can, even if they don't really ever pan out. He's pragmatic, realistic, and occasionally very reckless if he's having a particularly bad day (and needs to blow off some steam), but overall he's a fairly well-adjusted man. He has a tendency to dig a little too deep into those around him, being a bit too good at recognizing when someone's making a shitty judgement call.

He has made every single shitty judgement call; they're easy to spot.

More often than not, he's the one to tell you something isn't going to work, and provide his perspective to help you through, but then he's right back to drinking a beer because he knows it'll go tits up regardless. Comfortable in chaos, yet always searching for the right path. He's the one who won't say "I told you so", but that half-smile says it enough. When all else fails, he'll adapt or accept whatever comes, because sometimes, no matter how good or right you are, and no matter how hard you work, what you got is what it is.

Better to make the best of it, and find some new way to overcome, when you can. Blood from a stone is not a smart idea, indeed.

Another key personality trait is he's not very good with being criticized. Though he doesn't have an ego the size of a dump truck, nor is it particularly fragile, he's likely to get mad enough to turn to beer, cigarettes, and thick silence when he thinks he's being unfairly maligned. That's when the aloofness comes in.

Fearsː Lee doesn't have very many fears. He's suffered enough as a youth (and a bad-luck prone adult) be fairly level-headed where all things dark and scary are concerned, but there is one key way to throw him off his guard; small spaces. Claustrophobic to a fault, Lee will do anything and everything to avoid being in spaces he can't move around in. He'd tear apart walls and use anyone (sans Percy) and everything as a stepping stone or stop-gap to prevent being locked anywhere restricting. He also does not take very well to being bullied, as he had been often as a tween and teen for various reasons.

This could be considered a fear, or potentially a trigger for some greater anger he's bottled up.

Hopes: Lee wishes for nothing in the world other than a normal life, and someone to call his partner.

The brunet has a horrible history with normalcy, lending itself to the worst strokes of luck imaginable. A destructive upbringing, senseless teasing, always being late to classes via outside forces, failing things he knew he could succeed at, cheating partners, a lost cat, job firings through no fault of his own, wash, rinse, repeat. Lee craves normalcy.

It might seem an odd hope, but for a man who could possibly get struck by lightning twelve times over if the conditions were right (knock on wood, it hasn't happened at all), normal is good enough for him. The curious thing is that, because he would be so used to things being not-normal and not going his way, that perhaps he may not be very surprised when it all inevitably turns to shit.

Worst Nightmareː Being locked in a small space, or losing Percy. At this point, losing Percy, or perhaps her being needlessly cruel to him...while also locking him away in a small space...would be the worst thing he could imagine.

H I S T O R Y

Youth:
Lee was a smart kid, and though latently brilliant, failed everything. He was always late; bullies snatched his backpack on the walk to school. He could never keep his grades up; the dog actually ate his book reports. He was teased for his off-kilter smile, and being a puny magnet for chaos.

It seemed, and seems to this day, that a black cloud follows the poor guy around, but as a tween, things were harder still. Every shot he took was fumbled. Every attempt to prove he was good at something was stymied. Every teacher hated him. He struggled in every class. He could've been set right at the goal, and still miss the kick by getting his soccer cleats stuck in the grass.

Because of his absolutely piss-poor luck, he decided from an early age, that he'd be the reckless friend. The knows-shit-beyond-his-years friend. The friend people thought was 'cool', but really, was a mess. He was the friend who knew an older guy, and could get weed. He was the friend that lit things on fire, simply because his entire world was on fire, anyways.

The danger friend; tween or not, he was the one you went to because you wanted to have fun. Whether that fun was responsible or not, it wasn't like his alcoholic parents cared. And so, Lee became the chaos that followed him. Chaos was normal; he could never rise above it.

Even the fated party, with the fated friends he always felt beyond in years, and the fated disappearance of one Melissa “Milly” Fox had seemed normal to him. Normal, because nothing that ever happened to him was normal. He'd been curiously calm (he's so mature, look at how well he's handling even more chaos). Of course she hadn't made it home; Deadwood was called Deadwood for a reason. Whatever/whoever had taken her wasn't a surprise. What was a surprise, however, was that it hadn't been him.

It's a wonder he managed to make it home that night, just like it's a wonder that he ever made it to high school in the first place.

Teen:
Lee had reveled in his role of being dangerous fun. The slacker who 'could apply himself', if only himself wasn't a lightning rod for trouble. Dangerous fun was the only thing he'd ever been truly good at.

The formative experience that lead him to want to flee Deadwood came on the night of Junior prom; he'd decided he'd had enough of being the firestarter, the weed smoker, and the general full-time fuck-up. But it took heartbreak to get there.

Enter attractive, albeit stupid jock, and caustic punk-adjacent teen nightmare Liam.

Their brief relationship was volatile, messy, beautiful, and awkward. Sadly for Liam, Derrick Sullivan (and his entourage and family) would have never been okay with the two being together, and so paranoia set in, that lead to a devastating case of hazing/bullying. All set for prom. All set to take each other, social mores be damned. All set in a curious blue suit, and obnoxious magenta loafers. All set to turn around all the bad luck Liam had had (and bad name as the danger teen), and start off on the right foot, finally.

But the lie came. The rumor, the spread of it, and Liam was the brunt of cruel fate yet again. He was, apparently, obsessed with Derrick. It was also, apparently one-sided. And so, as it was the early aughts, Derrick and the other meat-heads baited danger boy to a far-off corridor, and he was jammed into the bowels of Deadwood's shitty little school for no less than a day, until he was found by a janitor.

Life had told him, in no uncertain words, that he did not belong here.

That he would always be 'dangerous fun'. That no amount of living his actual truth would be accepted in Dead Wood. That, perhaps, somewhere, he was the cause of everything bad.

Deadwood had to be the reason. It wasn't like he had much he wanted to hold on to anyways (alcoholic, useless parents, friends that he felt would only ever see him as 'dangerous fun'), and so he dropped out of high school and made his way to the nearest big city.

Adult:
Though his luck had never truly turned around, he adjusted, with time.

He made a true friend at an old job they both hated, and normalcy seemed at least...somewhat in his grasp. Older, stronger, wiser, and very much able to deal with a great deal of shit, Liam stumbled from disaster to disaster, and somehow managed to make it out relatively unscathed.

Perhaps, then, his luck isn't actually all that bad.

Perhaps, truthfully, he's a survivor, whatever the circumstance.

Relationshipsː

Cat that keeps running away
— Daisy; black as night, very loving, but also has no sense of self-preservation (cars are just big metal birds, y'all).
Estranged parents — Debbie Forester (became a super-Karen). Richard Forester (became a human turnip who is still glued to sports ball broadcasts).
Group of friends — Long-since left behind, disentangled, dispersed. He has fond memories as their facilitator for reckless fun (Lee, can you ask that guy about the weed? Lee, ya' wanna go do somethin' crazy, we're bored!), but they've soured a bit. As he's reflected more on what happened with Milly, he wonders on the rationality of it. Someone had to have known, someone had to have seen her, and because Lee knows intimately about bad luck and shit circumstances, he's thought long and hard about just what Milly's were.
Blake Anne Percival — The one person in his life who somehow is immune to Liam's bad-luck shitstorm. Bottle-blonde, chatty, catty, and always dressed to impress. She's his beard, so to speak, or perhaps his platonic life-partner. Whatever the case, Percy is his 'important person'.

Sadly, she's a woman, but perhaps in time they'll settle into some sort of sexless marriage where she drinks boxed wine and he becomes a cat-dad and adopts 900 cats. Percy, along with Daisy, are really the only constants in his life (even if the stupid cat runs away at every given opportunity.)

Name: Anders Wheeler

Nicknames: His name gets butchered a lot; he most commmonly gets called Andre or Andrew when this happens. Also called Andy and Wheels by teammates.

Age: 25 years

Gender: Male

Height: 5 ft 11 in

Sexual Orientation: Currently calls himself straight. Realistically he's bisexual but in denial about it.

Appearance: Standing at a hair above 5'11", Anders' appearance makes him look a bit more delicate than he actually is. He appears smaller and skinnier than the average hockey player, though there is still some muscle on his bones to be spoken of. He has dark brown eyes and the slightly scruffy short hair to match it. He constantly looks sickly, sleep deprived, or both at this point. He's always held a serious default expression, but in his older years it's become more obvious. Something about him seems to either draw people to him or drive them away very quickly.

Faceclaim(s): Tyler Young (younger), Luke Powell (older)

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Personality: Anders is quite the wreck of a person, but would never admit that to anybody, even himself, out of a sense of pride and a sense of needing to be perfect or well put together. He subconsciously puts up a facade of being perfectly fine for everyone, even if it isn't as convincing as he believes it is. Anders hates being vulnerable and hates talking about his feelings; for a long time he denied even having feelings. He is very stubborn and often brushes his struggles to the side for the sake of looking strong and not burdening anybody.

He is constantly worried about something, mostly about being left by people or disappointing them. Anders also has quite a few quirks, most notably in his game routines; a couple examples lie in that he has to retape his sticks in between periods of a game and he can constantly be seen retying his skates over and over again seemingly out of fear that they will be too loose and cause a severe injury. If these routines are disrupted he becomed extremely upset. He often appears frantic or on edge.

The young man also appears to struggle with having healthy relationships; he can become very attached to people very quickly, which never ends well should they leave. This goes for romantic relationships and for platonic relationships. He has been both overbearing to people and has had people take advantage of his dependent personality. He also seems to go through romantic partners very quickly and very frequently, and his relationships with them are just as turbulent as his individual life.

Anders prides himself on constantly trying to improve, even if what he sees as improvement isn't actually necessary or actually helpful. He believes that above anything else, he needs to bring pride to his family and he needs to be successful, or else nobody will remember him.

He, at heart, is a relatively nice person on the rare occasion that he isn't actively stressed out or trying to impress somebody. Anders can be hard to approach and be friendly with, he is often standoffish or straight up avoidant unless he's had a few. He has definitely grown more social in his later years, but not even slightly more confident. Anders is willing to go great lengths to feel accepted or acknowledged, even if his methods aren't always exactly legal.

He feels things very deeply, even to a fault, though his passion can be remarkable when it's channeled positively. His emotions often seem to change on a whim and they don't seem to have much of a pattern to the casual observer. Despite this, he is able to encourage his teammates before a big game and is able to celebrate just as wildly with them when they have a special win. He is often seen as a bit of a risk taker and as a bit of a wild card by people who know him more closely. He can be loud, bold, and funny, but also wrathful, chaotic, and scary to be around. Anders has a notable streak of aggression both on and off the ice that he seems to have little control over.

Fears: Anders is notably disturbed by animals, especially bugs, that have wings. The ones that bother him the most are wasps and flies; wasps for their aggressiveness and flies for their "disgusting" nature, as he likes to put it. He also has a fear of rodents and a fear of drowning.

Hopes: His biggest hope is to become a professional hockey player at the NHL level. He's wanted that for himself since he was very young. He hopes to become a star in the league.

Worst Nightmare: He is very afraid of being catastrophically injured in relation to his career, but more than that, Anders is absolutely terrified of living a life in obscurity. He doesn't want to just fade away and be forgotten about one day. He is horrified at the idea of being nobody to everyone around him and in the world as a whole. He also has a very notable fear of being abandoned, and he sometimes projects this onto people he's close with.

H I S T O R Y

Bio: Anders Wheeler grew up in Deadwood as the son of wealthy, but inattentive parents. Being successful business people, Anders' parents left him to other relatives' care or to his own devices while they stayed in Portland. This, over time, made him drift close to his mother's grandfather, former NHL player and Swedish immigrant Bjorn Karlsson. With his grandfather's encouragement, Anders began to start playing himself, primarily at a rink over an hour from home. His mother managed to drop in to a couple games if she was able to be in town, but his father couldn't be bothered, which is a source of anger for him now.

The family's skill in playing the game shone through Anders as he got older; soon enough he was getting looks from junior teams as he kept playing and advancing. However, the lack of care he got from the ones that he was supposed to be relying on started to get to him. He started acting out in school and his "strange" behaviour started becoming more obvious. Making things worse was his grandfather's declining condition; he started to move slower with age and eventually fell ill from a heart disease that kept him from working with Anders as closely as he had before.

As he got further into middle school, his decline was much more obvious than before. He was more openly antisocial, and more openly aggressive even at school. His state seemed to deteriorate to its lowest point after the events of Halloween in 1995, and for a while, pulled himself away from the group a bit in an attempt to cope. He spent more time at the rink, but his progress took a hit for a significant amount of time.

Anders stopped showing up to classes a couple of years later when he moved back to his parents' home in Portland. This was after the passing of his grandfather from a heart attack and at the beginning of his junior career. He ended up playing for the Portland Winterhawks for most of this part of his career and proved to be a valuable asset to their team. He went on to go to college out of state, mostly at the urging of his parents for him to have a back up plan. He's mostly procrastinating on actually completing his degree, focusing more on his performance with the college's hockey team. He currently majors in physiology and is juggling school with his college career as well as his professional career that started a few years ago with his drafting in 2000 to the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round, 74th overall. He has been bouncing around between leagues, primarily spending time with their AHL affiliate teams.

Relationships: The core friend group, even if slightly strained now. He has also had several romantic relationships and casual relationships, though they have already ended by now. Anders is very close to his teammates. He is distant from his living biological family.
