With 3 older brothers and both parents, all hunters, it was obvious that she was destined to be one as well. Before she could even walk, she was given a bow to play with, to learn how to pull the string and shoot rubber tipped arrows. Of course, as a child, she wasn't very good-- but the older she got, the more she practiced, the better she became. She's now the best shot in her family, even if her brothers like to tease her constantly and say that she's not.
Friendly competition is healthy, and that's all it is. Sera sometimes can't help but to take their teasing and tormenting personally; it's just who she is. It all just helps her become better-- she wants to be the best. The more they tease and torment, the more she practices.
When Sera was thirteen, vampires attacked their home. None of them escaped unscathed. Their mother lost her life, and their father lost an ear. The boys all have scars from the attack, and so does Sera. The scar reaches from her left shoulder all the way down to right above her hip on the right side, cutting jaggedly across her back from a vampire who jumped her. Had it not been for her eldest brother, she would have died.
Ever since then, she swore to never let anything get in the way of her hunting. And until now, she hasn't.

she vividly remembers the sting as his fangs sunk into her neck and the burning sensation that followed. he must've thought she was dead when she dropped to the ground, hell, she thought she was dead too. neither of them were expecting her to stand back up as if nothing had happened. but she did. it seems like it happened lifetimes ago. maybe it did, she stopped keeping count of the years.
she's been with dorian ever since. of course at first she was reluctant to his help seeing as how he'd been the one to trap her in this life. but eventually she gave it when she realized she was likely doomed without him. this realization came after she was nearly killed by a hunter and he basically saved her. they soon developed a brother-sister relationship and she's gotten over the whole "you turned me into blood-sucker thing".
she has been a vampire for a long time now, but she has never killed for pleasure. of course at first she couldn't control it but once dorian helped her, she only killed when it was necessary like if she was cornered, attacked, or HAD to drink. eventually she decided to drink from animals instead of humans, a choice that dorian clearly finds ridiculous and they often butt heads about but she doesn't want to be a killer.

For a while, she was a normal young girl, oblivious to the world outside of her happy and bright childhood home. But that facade as broken shortly after her sixth birthday. Sean had been away on a "business trip" for a week or so, leaving Estela at home to care for Cassidy and her older brother, Declan. He returned late at night and, in her excitement to see her father again, Cassidy had stayed up past her bed time to wait for him. She rushed downstairs into the foyer, a huge smile on her face. But what she found was far from what she expected.
Sean stood in the foyer, removing his mud soaked boots and jacket. The white t-shirt he had worn underneath as was splattered with crimson red, the same substance smeared on his hands and arms. Truth be told, Cassie wasn't sure if the blood was his or someone else's. But it terrified her. Happiness entirely gone, she screamed and ran from her father, hiding for the rest of the night. Sean had wanted to keep his daughter from the life he and Estela led. But their secret was out.
From that day forward, Sean and Estela began to train their daughter as their son had been trained. They taught them about the wretched beings that hide among the living, bloodthirsty vampires who senselessly murdered people. Sean was in charge of the physical aspects, the martial arts and weaponry necessary to take down such beasts. Estela, on the other hand, was more motherly in nature, teaching them first aid elements and traditional schoolwork along with the lore. Cassidy and her brother were groomed into be a brother-sister vampire hunting duo.
When Cassidy was 16 and her brother 17, their parents took them on a hunting trip to the United States. It wasn't out of the ordinary, as the family had been hunting together off and on for a few years now. But it was the first time they had been so far away from home. The vampire Declan had been tracking was in their clutches. All Cassie had to do was hit her target with her weapon of choice, a crossbow, and the plan would work.
But she missed.
And it cost Sean and Estela their lives.
The arrow had missed the vampire's heart, sinking into a tree just inches off target. In her jet lag haste, Cassidy had forgotten to calibrate her crossbow. Angered by the attempted kill, the older and therefore stronger vampire easily ripped Sean and Estela's throat out while their children watched. Cassie would never forget the amount of blood and gore that speckled the grass, the image forever burned into her mind.
Cassidy and Declan barely escaped, not without their own injuries. Cassidy fell from a rather steep drop, snapping her lower leg. Somehow, through the adrenaline of the hunt, she was able to continue running until the pair made it to their vehicle. The injury required surgery, landing Cassie in the hospital and physical therapy for almost a year. In that time, they had decided to make a home in the same town as the hospital, New Orleans, for easy access to Cassidy's treatment.
Cassidy, fueled by rage, has made it her life's mission to find the vampire that killed her parents, even going as far as forming a blood pact with Declan. And when she inevitably does, she won't miss again.

While their parents had initially intended to hide and protect her from the hunting world, Sean was dead seat on his son following him in his footsteps and taking on the family business. As soon as Declan was able to walk and talk, he began to learn how to fight and take down the beasts his parents hated so much. What started as boogeyman stories like those parents tell in order to get their children to behave evolved into factual lore and strategical planning.
Once Cassidy unintentionally uncovered the family secret, things changed around the Moreno household. There wasn't as much fun and smiles that his parents had put on in order to keep Cassie safe. In some ways, Declan disliked his parents for the differences in the way he and Cassidy were raised. He believed them to be unfair, having never stated himself that he wanted to be a hunter. But Dec was disciplined, and did as he was told anyway.
On that fateful night, Declan had a sinking suspicion that the family was unprepared for the hunt. Sean and Estella had seemed that they were more stressed than usual, but wouldn't let their children in on why. Dec later found out that the vampire they were hunting was old, powerful, and notorious for killing hunters. They were pretty much on a family suicide mission, one that their parents had no intentions of telling Cass and Dec about.
For this and a few other reasons, Declan was not as affected by their deaths as Cassidy had been. He knew she blamed herself for them dying, having missed the stealth shot that was supposed to end the wretched vampire. But Declan knew it was more than just one shot, it was poor planning and lack of preparedness. Cassie paid the price with the injury of her leg. She was intent on killing the vampire that killed their parents and, in order to appease his sister, Declan agreed to the pact. But he refused to let Cass or himself die in the process.

Dorian doesn't remember a life before becoming a vampire, and to him, that's just as well He doesn't want to be tied down by memories of people that are long since dead. Background:
In 88 BC the Ptolemies were in control - as much control one could have while dethroning and having incestual relations. Soter, was a captive of war and became a chattel slave. He was a handsome man and because of that Pharaoh Ptolemy X Alexander gifted the man to his vizier. In this time some slaves were allowed personal property, wages and capable of handling transactions. Not true for chattel slaves. Soter was given food, a place to sleep and duties. Many duties. However one of the duties did not include seducing the vizier's daughter. In time it became noticeable Khepri's stomach was growing larger. The vizier hid his daughter away - claiming she had gone to visit family. In reality he was doing everything but torturing his teenage daughter for the person who had touched her. Learning the man's name, the vizier flew into a rage. Soter was whipped to death, his body thrown carelessly into a bit of hungry, aggressive dogs.
After giving birth Khepri was not allowed to see the child. It was handed off to an older slave woman from another house. The woman named it Makalani and she became his mother. While she was harsh, probably why the vizier chose her, Makalani was an angel in her eyes; her sole meaning of life. Thiti was a bonded slave. She had sold herself into slavery at a very young age in order to have shelter and food. Cook was her position and it was something she relished by lording over the other slaves. Makalani learned from a very young age that his life was not his. He was a slave because his mother was a slave.
Makalani grew into a very handsome man much like his unknown father. He courted a few females but made sure he wasn't caught by his master because it would have earned him a lashing and he'd had enough of those in his childhood. On his twenty-first birthday his master arranged a party. Slaves were dressed in fine clothes, some even donning jewelry and makeup to emphasize their features. This was not a normal party. Rich people were invited. One in particular had his eyes set on Makalani.
On the night of his birthday Makalani was bought by a very rich man named Orrin. The male made no contact with Makalani or any of the slaves he bought that night. They were carted to a boat and loaded into the slave quarters. On the water, a few of the slaves, including Makalani, experienced sea sickness. He was half positive the sickness would be his end as it was for a few others. It took weeks for them to reach Greece, where his new master lived.
Upon entering the abode, the slaves were ushered into a locked room where other slaves resided. Many of the occupants lay on the floor, blood gushing from wounds on their necks. The new slaves began to panic. Yelling and kicking at the door and stone walls made no impact. No one came to their rescue. Soon they found out why the others were bleeding. They too were bled by the monsters of the house. Makalani was disgusted at the actions of his master and what were his...family? The only one to touch him was the master, Orrin. Orrin forbid anyone from touching his Egyptian prize. It wasn't long before Makalani was the only surviving slave from the party.
Makalani was with Orrin for a little more than a year when Orrin changed him. He was no longer a slave.

Quirks: Lies so much he might be considered a compulsive liar, is extremely superstitious.
Personality: Sal is, more than anything, just a kid. So much is obvious in his tendency to get his priorities mixed up and the emphasis he puts on self interest. Given the point he is at in life, he has recently become aware that he should have more mature pursuits and take his actions into closer consideration before carrying them out, but the struggle is eternally between that knowledge and his desire to do whatever he wants.
There has been no shortage in his life of problematic situations caused by his risky decisions. Sal is so accustomed to the madness that peace and quiet unsettles him, and when things are stagnant for too long he likes to cause a scene and shake things up a bit.
As far as other people go, they've always been more of an accessory to the grand display of his life than they have been a vessel for genuine connection. Sal isn't necessarily selfish or evil all the time, but he lacks the ability to relate because he has isolated himself in attempts to remain glamorous.
Sal is fully aware of the areas he still needs to grow up in, but plays stupid because he would much rather carry on his ridiculous and extravagant life the way he has all this time than change anything for the better of his future. Besides he has a new...gift... that has changed the game considerably.
History: Salvador was the youngest of four growing up. A well to do family provided above and beyond the call of duty for their children in every avenue of care. Sal and his siblings had everything they could want or desire, all while growing up in the extravagance of New Orleans in the French Quarter.
The resource which afforded their lavish lifestyle was the family's publishing house, which was started, and owned and operated, by Sal's parents. Both of them writers of bestselling mystery novels, they were just as eccentric as the city they had chosen to raise their children in, and they were never short of fantastic ideas to enrich their kids lives. Sal lived to his fullest potential.
That didn't stop him from being the youngest and therefore, a little self centered. Sal developed serious disdain for his older siblings who won over the attention with their impressive pursuits. They were each smart, artistic, eccentric like their parents. Sal was just Sal and that was it.
How heart-winning it would be if there was some darkness to his story, if his being changed had anything to do with a horrifying moment in his life, but it's nothing like that. Sal chose this. He sought it out.
New Orleans, being a place of dark magics and curious creatures, human and beyond, was rich with supernatural activity and so much Sal knew. It was his special interest growing up, anyway, the dark things that lurked around the city. He knew all about it before he was fully grown and had started his connections with darkness long ago. He doesn't even know the name of the vampire who turned him, it's amazing what money can buy you these days.
One other drastic change in his life recently, besides becoming a damned creature of the night, is that he is, very suddenly, the sole surviving heir to his family's incredible legacy- as his parents and siblings went missing some time ago now, and it's been so long that the only choice anyone has is to believe them dead. Of course, Sal is in mourning still, and has been holed up in his family's weird estate pretty much since the incident.
