Seven days. Seven days the group had to survive upon the mountain where tge Final Selection took place. There would be many different Demons upon this mountain. Probably less then half of the group would suurvive. It was a grim thought.

Strange flowering trees kept the Demons trapped here. A long, deep breath escaped from Yanagi. Who stood by a boy with magenta colored eyes, and dark brown hair. His name was Tonjiro.

Both she and Tonjiro were the only survivors of their village after a Demon attacked. She and Tonjiro had grown up together and became friends. Though they still hung around together, they went on different paths. Until the night of the Demon attack.

Her hand gripped the handle of the blade in which her Sensei had given her. Made for her. He was always telling stories of Demons and the Supernatural while they gathered herbs. Being only thirteen, Yanagi never took stock into his tales. She just figured he didn't want her wandering off by herself.

Now, she stood next to Tonjiro, the same age as Yanagi. Along with a group of other Slayers. Ready for the Final Selection.

The Demons had been released, and Yanagi stood with Tonjiro, eyes scanning the forest of the mountain amongst the purplish-blue flowers.

Ever since the day his family had been killed by demons, his life had been massively changed. Even now, Tanjiro found it hard to believe just how much things had changed since then. It all had happened so quickly, and now he found himself at the cusp of becoming a Demon Slayer. Two years ago his training had begun and now, he was ready to put into action. Everything Urokodaki had taught him would be put to the test. While part of him was worried about what the outcome would be, the other part remained calm, and ready for the long week that awaited him in the forest ahead. Eyeing what he could see of it, the teen tried to get a feel for where might be the best place to go, but there was no making any plan ahead of time. The flowers before the forest were thick enough to ensure that, and besides, there was no telling where a demon might hide itself among the underbrush that he wouldn't be able to make out as is from his current position. Any kind of plan would have to wait until they were inside.

Averting his gaze from the forest that awaited them, Tanjiro's eyes settled upon the girl next to him. It was strange to think they had both made it to this point. After everything that had happened, he though himself to be on his own, seeking for a way to cure Nezuko, but he wasn't. While their paths to this point had been different, they both still had ended up in this place with a similar goal in mind- survive. It was all they had to do in order to become slayers. It was an easy thought to have, but hard to put into practice. Even so, they would have to find a way forward. In his own case, he had no other choice if he wanted to cure Nezuko. That alone was enough to hold him firm to his decision. Even if his back was up against the wall, he would find some way to prevail.

Letting the thought pass from his mind, the teen momentarily closed his eyes and took in a deep breath. He needed to stay calm and levelheaded. Getting himself worked up before everything had even started would only set him up for failure. When the tension seemed to leave his body, he opened his eyes once more, just in time to see two girls stepping forward to greet the group of young participants. Both wore matching kimonos and had a long flower clip in their hair, though on opposite sides. Everything about them was the same besides the colors of their hair and eyes, which were opposites of one another. Tanjiro watched as the pair halted and began the explanation of what awaited them.

"Greetings everyone," the blacked haired one spoke. "Thank you all for gathering here tonight and joining us for Final Selection. Up ahead there are lots of demons being held captive, unable to escape because of the wistera that grows all year around here."

As the first girl stopped speaking, the white haired one was ready to continue on and pick up from where she had left off. "Beyond this point, there will be no more wistera, only demons. If you can survive seven days, then you will pass Final Selection." She paused for a brief moment before she and the other girl stepped to the side to open the path leading to the groups destination. It was then that both girls gestured the participants forward. "Now let Final Selection begin."

Those words rang out, but Tanjiro showed no hesitation. Stepping forward, he glanced back at Yanagi momentarily, hoping she would follow him.

Being Tonjiro's best friend, she knew about Nezuko and wanted to help Tonjiro find a cure for his sister. Survive here for seven days...That was all they had to do. Once the Final Selection began, Yanagi indeed did follow Tonjiro. After all, they were childhood friends. Not only that, but both of them were also the last survivors of their village that had been taken down by a Demon. As much as Yanagi hoped there was a cure for Tonjiro's sister, but deep down, Yanagi wasn't sure that there was.

There would be many different level Demons on this mountain. The purplish-blue flowers emitted a sweet scent. But one couldn't relax in this place. Any kind of mistake and one would wind up easily consumed by one of the Demons sealed away here. Yanagi knew that many of their group in the Final Selection wouldn't make it. It was a grim thought to be sure. A thought that wasn't to be taken lightly.

Still...Yanagi had to pass through these seven days. Yanagi wasn't about to disappoint her perished Sensei, who had died in her arms after the Demon attack. Those thoughts determined Yanagi to survive with Tonjiro. Tightly, Yanagi gripped the hilt of the blade in which her Sensei had had specially crafted for her when he would send her to the Final Selection. Slowly, Yanagi exhaled, trying to clear her mind and focus on the long week that was ahead of them.

Walking in silence as they entered the forest, Tanjiro allowed his hand to rest upon the hilt of his blade, prepared for anything that might try to jump out and attack them. Demons could be lurking anywhere, even this close to their starting point. He could only imagine that the thrill of humans joining them would bring them forth. They needed it in order to live after all. Shuddered at the thought, he momentarily allowed his emotions to waver. As strong as he outwardly made himself appear, he did still have his own concerns, but no matter what he needed to push forward and let his determination shine through. No demon was going to take him so easily, even if other emotions still lingered in the back of his mind.

Finding resolve in those thoughts, Tanjiro lifted his head, allowing his eyes to flicker around and scan the immediate area around them. Nothing in sight. Even the air was devoid of any sounds, expect the occasional caw of a bird. The sounds of their fellow slayers no longer hung in the air, which was both good and bad. Together, it was unsettling and caused a shiver to go down the boy's spine. What made it worse was the lack of any kind of scent as well. The faints smell of the wisteria beyond them was all he could pick up. It was odd. As a result, his body tensed up, causing his grip to tighten around the hilt of his blade.

"Something feels off," he finally spoke, keeping his voice low. Even as the words escaped his lips, his eyes didn't move to look towards his friend. They still flickered around, trying to catch sight of any kind of movement. Maybe he was being too paranoid, but he couldn't help it. For the next week he would have to battle such feelings, but that was the life he was preparing for. Every turn was going to be a risk and he was well aware of it. Paranoia was always going to be a part of facing demons. Over time he might become accustom to it, but in the current moment, it was very much present. "Make sure you watch yourself. Demons could be anywhere, even if we can sense them."

It was a scary though to have, but it was the truth. Demons could avoid detection by such simple means. It was frustrating, but getting past it was only half the battle. Besides, such a thing forced them to rely on other things, like general awareness. Even if a demon could escape being heard or smelled, eventually it was going to become visible if it wanted to attack. That was what they needed to prepare themselves for.

Breathing softly, Tanjiro continued forward. With any luck, it might be awhile before they encountered any demons. That might allow them to gather necessary supplies to keep them alive outside of attacks. Find some kind of food was a must, as well as possible places to take shelter, though lingering too long in one place was probably not applicable unless they wanted to find themselves dead. "If you see anything that might be useful, do speak up. Demons aren't our only problem out here."

"Right." Yanagi trusted Tonjiro with her life. After all, they had been through thick and thin together. Besides the fact, that they were the only survivors of their village that had been brutally attacked by a horrible, hungry Demon. What neither of them new yet, was that the Demon had been sent by the Demon King himself. To get revenge upon Yanagi's Sensei.

It was still very strange to think that Demons were real. Even though her Sensei taught her the ways of the blade, and taught her about the Earth and the land. He had had high hopes for Yanagi. Even making the very blade she now carried for the Final Selection week.

She still had nightmares about that horrible night. Blood and mangled bodies were everywhere. Someday...Someday she would get revenge and slay the Demon if she ever found it.

"What are you thinking Tonji?" That was what she called her childhood friend. She could never say his name when they were little, and the nickname stuck.
