Parker Pierce

It had been a while since Parker had seen his best friend, but per usual, he picked up with Wes as if no time had passed at all. Giving his pal a hard time about working just came with the territory, especially since it seemed now more than ever that Wes needed a reminder now and then to shirk responsibility and have a bit of fun. Nothing like a race down the mountain to get the day of debauchery started. Parker was pleased to hear that Cam would be joining in on the race, and he returned her grin as she leaned against the counter. Whit on the other hand didn't look like she'd be joining, and the clown wasn't terribly surprised. She'd been silent since he'd arrived in the kitchen, and he opened his mouth to check in with her, but the arrival of Ava rerouted his attention to the other Jeffries sister.

Of course, he was only able to send a smile in her direction before hurricane Jace swept through the kitchen and swept everyone outside with him. The typical bad boy was in a surprisingly good mood this morning- or maybe not so surprising considering him and Cam looked awfully cozy this morning. Jace had even grabbed her hand to pull her outside with him, and as Parker joined the others outside, he saw them standing hand in hand for a moment before heading to the shed. Ever since the funeral and the mix up about Cam and Jace having or not having a kid together, Parker was a little unclear where the two stood, but apparently they were on good terms this morning at least. Sporting a black eye and bruised lip, but on good terms.

Parker was a little envious of the pair if he was being honest, and he glanced over at Ava wistfully as she exited the cabin. She looked adorable in her ski outfit, and he waited a few moments where he stood until she caught up to him. "Couldn't find my lucky beanie... but I still think I can win." He grinned, tugging the generic beanie further down onto his ears so they wouldn't get frost bitten. "You didn't hide it to give you the advantage, did you?" He teased, not truly believing she'd do such a thing. Walking besides the beautiful brunette, Parker made his way to the storage shed and selected a snowboard when it was his turn. "Damn, it's been ages since I've boarded..." He said with a low whistle as he admired the snowboard before tucking it under his arm. The clown waited for Ava to select her skis, before following the others up the mountainside.

"Let me know if you want me to carry your skis..." Parker offered, glancing over at Ava with a smile. He knew she was very capable of fending for herself and didn't question her ability, but he was happy to help her in any way he could. He might not be able to get as cozy with her as Jace and Cam were, or even spend time in the closet with her like Wes and Whit, but he still was enjoying simply getting to spend time with his longtime crush. Her cheeks were flushed from the cool wind blowing against her exposed skin, and it was so tempting to reach out and warm her cheek with a kiss. He didn't know why, but as much as he tried this morning, it was hard to resist imagining all the things he wish he could do with Ava.

Luckily, Caleb pulled Parker out of his thoughts before he could act on any of them as they reached the top of the hill. He announced the lineup for those racing, with only Evie and Whit serving as the cheerleaders. He chuckled a little at Caleb's joke about them not being in uniform, as he offered a nod to the two brunettes, having a feeling that their cheers may be a little biased. Throwing his board onto the snow, Parker stepped onto it and slid his feet into the attachments. He bent his knees a little, getting the feel of the board and his balance while everyone else prepared. Well? What are you fuckers waiting for? Get in line, bitches, we race in five, four, three... Parker turned his head to glance at Ava, offering her a smirk. "I'll save you a place at the bottom of the hill, Sugar." He teased before turning back to look down the mountain. And just like that, once Caleb got down to Go! they were off!

Parker was quick to drop off the starting line and down the mountain. It took a few moments for him to get up to speed, the years of not being around snow costing him a perfect start, but it wasn't long before he was flying down the slope, laughing at the freeing feeling. It was hard not to goof off on the board and try a few tricks out for old time sake, but right now he was focussed on a swift descent. He would play around on the next run down. Glancing to his left and right, he could see the rest of the group, pretty evenly matched... for the moment. He bent his knees more, making himself more aerodynamic as he tried to edge past the others to take the lead. He put his hand to the ground, using it to grab a little bit of snow, which he then tossed at Caleb to fuck with him when the lad came nearer. "Watch out, looks like there's a blizzard ahead!" He called out jokingly.

Glancing over his shoulder, he spotted Ava speeding down the mountain skillfully, taking no prisoners. That’s his girl. His, here, being used wishfully. Getting caught up watching the brunette, he didn’t notice a bank of snow that acted as a small ramp. The clown cursed as he shot up and over the bank of snow, catching air as the bank ended and he kept going. “Fuuuucckkk!” He yelped, not being prepared for that kind of stunt quite yet.

Evelyn had never really been a fan of the cold weather. Snow, rain, ice, sleet. Whatever it was, she would much rather the sky be clear and full of sunshine rather than cloudy and dim. Growing up in Philadelphia, she had seen her fair share of rain and ice. But, for the longest time, it was just another event in her day-to-day life. Nothing that important, though mildly distasteful. But, the night her parents died, it was pouring down rain. So much so, that even the windshield wipers on the fastest setting had a hard time keeping up with the droplets hitting the glass. Evie remembered her parents making idle comments about it to one another as they drove towards their home from the diner. She remembered the dampness in her hair as she raced out o the car back into the restaurant to try and find her phone. And she remembered the splattering of mist hitting her face while she was in and out of consciousness after the wreck. Needless to say, she can't live through a rainy day anymore without thinking about that night and all the ways it could have gone better.

The brunette baker took a final drag from her cigarette, tapping off the ash into the snow below before tossing it into the designated trash can, which happened to be an old terra cotta flower pot set on a rickety side table next to the old patio set. Both had been around since before they started going there, with memories of conversations in those patio chairs their first vacation to the cabin. Ava spoke up, a smug smile on her face as she took on Caleb's challenge with ease. Her confidence was infallible, and Evelyn grinned in response. Green eyes darted towards the man as she shrugged and added, "Looks like you've got your work cut out for you." With their cigarette done, it was time to head towards the makeshift slopes. And so, she began to follow Ava inside when she felt someone gently grab her arm. Evie paused, turning to look at Caleb with an expression of confusion across her features. She knew their conversation the night before had been left unfinished, and she wasn't sure she was quite ready to finish it now. She could only hope that wasn't what he wanted.

Thankfully, Caleb smiled at her and in not-so-direct words, asked for a kiss as a prize if he won. It was sweet, adorable, and something that the Caleb she knew all those years ago would totally do. The warm feeling of comfortable nostalgia washed over Evelyn for a moment, chipping away at her emotional walls as it did so. For a moment, the internal arguing monologues of what she wanted quiet in her mind, and she smiled at him. With a simple nod, she said, "Deal," before following Ava into the house. The rest of the group had already gathered, and they were quickly off to the makeshift slopes in the forms of snow-covered hills outside the cabin. Evelyn slipped her hands into her pockets, following the others up the slope. The wind was biting, but she didn't mind it surprisingly. Once at the peak, the brunette couldn't help but admire the view. Maybe snow-covered mountains weren't so bad after all. Whitney's voice caught her attention, and Evie looked over at where she sat on the sled. "Oh sure, that actually sounds fun," she answered with a smile.

Taking a seat behind Whitney on the sled, Evelyn pulled her hat tighter down over her ears in an attempt to warm herself. Caleb counted down those who wanted to race, and they were off, slipping down the snow with increasing speeds. Evelyn watched them for a moment, eyes darting between her friends before resting on Caleb. She couldn't deny that he seemed to be trying to make amends. He hadn't given her a reason yet to believe that he wouldn't leave again. But a small part of her was still wary. On the sled, they were definitely taking up the rear, but the snow whipping past them nevertheless brought a sense of delight to her heart. Adrenaline in the form of joy rushed through her veins, and but the time they reached the bottom, Evie's cheeks were flushed with excitement. She had not been on a sled since she was a kid, and she could honestly say that she missed it. Standing from the sled, she wiped the stray snow from her outfit before smiling at Whitney, "That was a great idea! Thank you!"

One of the things that hadn't changed from high school was Wesley's competitive nature. Given the opportunity to be the best at something in comparison to his peers, he most certainly tried his hardest. That didn't necessarily mean that he always came out on top, especially when it was a topic he wasn't great at. But he could still be happy knowing that he did the best that he could. Wesley was nothing if he didn't put in 110% effort each and every time. The idea of a race down the slopes was no different. As a kid, his parents had taken him to some fancy ski resort to learn as a form of "family bonding." They didn't end up bonding at all, and Wesley was more of a snowboarding type of guy than skis, which his parents didn't really like. But it was still a fond memory for him, one where he had found an activity other than hockey that he truly felt like he was good at and actually enjoyed. And now, he could relive those feelings with his closest friends.

Jace practically barged into the room, much more energetic than Wesley could have ever expected the tattooed man to be. His booming voice filled the area, and Wes tilted his head a bit as Jace grabbed Cameron's hand. He knew he should mind his own business, but he couldn't help but worry. But before he could make a decision on whether to say something, the pair disappeared outside. Shrugging it off, Wesley grabbed his phone and slipped it into his pocket before following the others out into the chilly mountain air. It was surprisingly refreshing, and a light breeze sent a mist of snow swirling across the plain like a mini-tornado made of crystals. Spending most of his life in the well-lit highrises of a bustling city, he had forgotten what the beauty of nature was like. Leave it to Anna not only to force him on vacation but also to take him back to his roots. Maybe he needed to rethink his priorities after all.

Peering into the equipment building, Wes immediately searched for the snowboard he remembered from all those years ago. It was the one he liked the best, black with a grey smoke-like design on the bottom and red on top. After a moment of searching, he found it tucked away in the corner and grinned. Just like old times. Once the group was well-equipped, they began the trail up the slopes, pushing through slightly thick snow as they moved at an incline. The brunette man felt a presence at his side and glanced over to find Whitney there, pulling the sled behind her. Her words, though not intentionally malicious, cut a bit deep, and Wes began to realize that his friends seemed to think of him as a workaholic. After a moment of hesitation, he let out a low chuckle and shrugged. "As many emails as I have, I'm much more invested in seeing the looks on the others' faces when I blow them out of the water and win," Wes teasingly replied, shooting a wink in her direction.

Once at the top of the hill, the businessman placed his board on the ground, snapping his boots into place. Like Parker, he also hadn't been snowboarding in years. In fact, the last time was probably back in high school on one of their vacation trips. Being physically confined to a piece of mostly fiberglass was a bit unnerving, but it was probably just like riding a bike, right? As soon as he got going, he would remember. They lined up, and Caleb counted them down. At the shout of 'Go!' he hopped into place, slipping down the slopes with relative ease. The wind ripped around him, but Wes barely felt it. Instead, the warmth of adrenaline rushing through his veins kept him comfortable. He tilted the board back and forth, swerving slightly to pick up more speed. From what he could tell, the others were all almost neck-and-neck with him. This was going to be a difficult race. Wes barely caught the end of a "Fuck" as Parker shot up over a bank, and he could help but grin. Glancing at Ava who was keeping pace with the rest of them like it was nothing, Wes teasingly smirked in her direction. "Looks like those ski lessons paid off after all!"

Skiing was something that Ava had been around forever. It was her mother who insisted on Ava taking the lessons because then they could visit all kinds of destinations where only the important people went. Back at high school, Ava was not exactly concerned with reasons and she mostly did what her parents wanted her to do. For the sake of the family name, of course. Hence dating Wes. So yes, when mommy dearest sent her to ski lessons, Ava went and took them without saying anything and treated the whole course as seriously as she treated everything in her life. And yes, if she was doing it, she needed to be the best out there.

Apparently, mother Jeffries knew what she was talking about since the family took annual trips to Aspen. From what the brunette could understand, a lot of deals were closed on those hills. And the tradition continued even after Ava got married as Ben loved his skiing trips even more. Every winter was filled with visiting ski resorts across the States and Ava couldn’t even remember when was the last time she spent Christmas at home with the closest family, let alone just her and Ben. There hadn’t been such a thing forever now.

Walking outside, Ava closed her eyes for a moment to inhale and only Parker’s voice brought her out of her reverie as he mentioned not being able to find his lucky beanie, asking if she had something to do with it. A cheeky grin appeared on her face as she turned to face Parker, walking backwards for a moment. “My lips are sealed.” she shrugged, pretending to be oh so mysterious. Ava had no idea where the beanie was though and if she did, she would be wearing it right now. But for now, she just walked to the shed and waited her turn to grab a pair of skis to fit her and her height.

The former IT girl walked up the mountain hill by Parker’s side and she couldn’t help but feel content. Somehow, her mind was more at peace now than it had been for months before coming home. And maybe the boy by her side had something to do with it. After all, Ava always felt comfortable around Parker. And while fate seemed to always be against them, she still reveled in his company though it was becoming harder and harder not to at least reach for his hand. Thank god her hands were full at this point or she might have as well gone for it.

Once on the top of the hill, all racers stepped on the start line. Ava double-checked her ski boots and made sure they were firmly fastened to the skis before she moved her glasses to her face. Air grew a little colder and small clouds of condensed air were leaving her lips as she waited for Caleb to finish the countdown. Parker teased her which only fueled her fire and her gloved hands tightened the grip on the sticks. “Don’t Sugar me, Pierce. I’ll be down there having a tea party before you hop down the hill. Feel free to tremble.” she laughed and just as Caleb said one, she darted off, focused on her one and only goal.

Cold air swished all around her and Ava was getting in her zone. Looking around, the race was pretty balanced and it was going to be tough to beat them all. It seemed that Ava was not the only one with a good ski training. Pursing her lips, she bent her knees even more, gaining on that momentum, slowly moving forward. Eyes on the prize, Ava. Eyes on the prize. But it was Wes’ voice that made her look to the side. “Of course, they did. Remember the senior year ski trip? I left you in the dust. Planning on doing it again!” she grinned at her ex and used her sticks to speed up, moving slightly in front of Wes. The bottom of the hill was slowly coming closer and Ava was determined to reach it in a few seconds.

Cam, Caleb ( apolla apolla )

Unlike some of his friends, Jace never had a chance to get any ski lessons. All he knew he had to learn himself, using the trial-and-error method. And the first board he ever owned got him several ugly injuries as it was an old second-hand thing that a friend of a friend didn’t want anymore. It was probably not even suitable for his height and the thing was so used up that it was barely gliding on the snow. But it was a snowboard and Jace was not going to look the gifted horse at its teeth. He simply took it and drove to the small hill over the town where he tried to learn how to do it. After his very first self-study session, he ended up in hospital with a sprained wrist.

Not that it put him off. The second he could, he was back on that hill and that went over and over again. Jace new he was unable to compete with the rich popular kids at his school but it didn’t mean he was going to let them look down on him. Jace never needed to be one of them but if he despised something, it was how condescending and judgy they could be. So naturally, when he found out about the senior year ski trip, there was no chance he was not going. And yes, there might have been a certain someone he wanted to impress.

In the course of years, Jason mastered the board at least a little bit, meaning, he was able to keep his balance and ride down the hill, even had a few tricks up his sleeve. By no means was he a professional but he didn’t have anything to be ashamed of either. Therefore, when the small group approached the equipment shed, Jace reached for the board, sporting a small smirk on his face. It was dark blue with a design of several gears on its bottom side. His old trusty companion every time they came here.

The hill looked annoying as hell already and Jace made a face just before they started walking up. He was not really lazy but the idea of hiking it up every time was not the most alluring one. Then again, if he could have done it before, when he was half the man he was today, why was he whining now? Tucking the board under his arm, he began the walk and hearing Cam’s comment, he laughed. “Come on.” Reached for her hand and slightly tugged on her, helping her a little as they were trying to get up there as soon as possible.

Once up there, Jace let go of Cam’s hand, already missing the feeling of it in his. But they both needed to get ready for the race so he let her to put her skis on. After all, they could have all hugs later, right? Now that they finally managed to get over the misunderstandings of the past. At least Jace hoped they did. He himself stepped on the board and fastened the thing to his boots, checking the straps to make sure he was not going to kill himself on that hill. Caleb’s words made him laugh again as he stood on the line and waited for the moment. “Can I get some of those cinnamon rolls as my first prize?” he snickered at Evie and just then the countdown went down and Jace went for it.

Knowing that the start was important, the bad boy got a bit lower in his knees and his hands helped him to keep the balance. Air was could and it pierced through the little pieces of exposed skin and through his mouth down his throat but it was absolutely worth it. His hollers sounded once again as he was getting more and more excited about this. And all of a sudden, Parker flew up in the air which, honestly, took Jace by surprise. “Showoff!” he yelled at the clown but then focused on his own ride. His eyes found Cam to see how she was doing but she was graceful as ever and managed to keep up with everyone. “How are you doing there, Cammy?”

Cameron Hale

The mountain air was cold yet refreshing as Cameron made her way up the hill, Jace by her side. She smiled to herself as he took her hand to help her up, letting go once they reached the top. Within just a few short minutes, everyone who was racing was ready, thanks to Caleb's announcement. The six of them lined up while Evie and Whitney got on the sled, fully prepared to enjoy the slopes as well. Cameron felt a swell of happiness blossom inside of her as she looked around at her friends, realizing just how glad she was that she'd come on this trip. Seeing everyone again at the funeral had been hard and even a little awkward, but now they were slowly but surely settling into their friendships again, just with a little twist this time with how some of them were pairing off. Herself included.

Her gaze slid over to Jace and she felt her heart skip a beat as she recalled their time together from the night before. Things had just felt so natural between them, like they always were meant to find each other. The blonde was growing so lost in her thoughts that she almost missed the countdown to go, but at the last second she got ready and then they were off. The hill wasn't the largest around but it was definitely one of their favorites, especially considering how close it was to the cabin. The cold air slapped her in the face as she pushed off and started down the hill on her skis, a bright smile appearing on her lips despite the cold. Hearing Jace ask how she was doing, she looked over at him, giving him a nod in response. "Peachy!" She called over, laughing a little bit at Parker caught some airtime on the bad boy's other side.

Cameron picked up speed as she bent her knees some, remembering how to work her body even though it had been quite some time since she'd been on a snow covered hill. The bottom was in sight, and feeling that competitive streak pick up within her, the one that she shared with her cousin, she bent her knees even more. The race had been neck in neck, but as the ground leveled out beneath them, it was quite clear who the winner was. Caleb cheered as he spun around on his skis, pointing his finger at Ava in particular as she finished up the race. "I told you so." He grinned at her, causing Cameron to laugh as she stepped closer to Jace, collapsing against his side. Her own chest heaved from her strained breathing, but she was still laughing as Caleb grabbed Evie and spun her around.

Still feeling that warmth within her, she turned her face to look at Jace. "You know, something tells me if you ask super nicely, you might get those cinnamon rolls anyway. Even if you totally lost." She poked him in the side before she turned to him, wrapping her arms around him and resting her head on his chest. Although nothing official had passed between them, she already felt as though Jace were hers and she was his. Maybe it was a mistake to already feel that way, but those feelings had always been there. She'd buried them under doubt and feelings of not being enough for him, but for now those thoughts had flown out of the window. The doubt was still there, as it always was, because who was to say that this was really what he wanted? It was what she wanted, but what if he changed his mind?

Caleb Thompson

It was fucking freezing out here, but Caleb was too excited to worry about being cold. Well, for now. He sure as shit didn't want to spend all day out here in the cold, and he was already daydreaming about that kiss from Evie when he won the race. That would definitely warm him up, and he could think of a few other things that would help. A cup of hot cocoa, a roaring fire in that fireplace, cuddling with Evie while she gave him that kiss... With a grin on his face, feeling better after apologizing to Cameron as well, he called for everyone to line up. They did, and he flashed a grin over at Whitney and Evie as they climbed onto the sled. He suddenly got an image in his head of Anna on the sled with Whitney instead, but when he blinked, it was definitely Evie sitting where Anna had been.

Feeling suddenly shaken, he shook himself and looked ahead again. Counting them off, they all started down the slopes, and he forgot all about the image in his head as he maneuvered the skis down the snowy mountain. With his grin returning, he glanced over at the others, seeing just how close the race was. "Oh, hell no." He laughed, turning his head to look ahead again, narrowly missing a rock sticking out of the snow. Blowing out a sharp sigh of relief, he nearly lost it all when Parker's voice shouted out from nearby. Turning to see what was going on, he couldn't stop himself from laughing when he saw Parker in the air and heard Jace call him a showoff. Caleb took a few quick seconds to look around at the others before he focused ahead again, spotting the bottom of the hill.

Determined to win, he bent his knees like everyone else and pulled in front at the last second. Cheering loudly, he spun around on his skis and pointed at Ava, a playful yet smug grin on his face as he spoke. "I told you so." His eyes darted over to Whitney and Evie as they finally caught up, and happy from his win, he approached the duo and helped them off of the sled. And then, without warning, he grabbed Evie and spun her around, laughing as he set her down in front of him, still holding her close as he looked down into her eyes. "I guess I get that kiss now." He told her, his breath fogging the area between them as he exhaled, laughing a little. "But don't worry. I won't take advantage of it." Still grinning, he leaned forward and kissed her nose softly before he let her go, turning to look at the others.

"Well, well, well. As the winner, I declare this mountain defeated." He leaned down to unclasp his skis, glad to step out of them and not be walking weird anymore. Leaning down to pick them up, he straightened again. "I'm starving. What's for lunch?" He moved to lean the skis against a tree before he looked down at the snow. An idea occurred to him, thanks to what Parker had done to him when they were sliding down the hill. He leaned down to grab a handful of snow, packing it into a tight ball before he looked up. Chucking the snowball at Parker, he grinned as he smacked the clown square in the face, nearly doubling over in laughter. "How 'bout that snowstorm, huh?" He managed to force out, grinning as he leaned over to grab more snow. This time his target was Ava, who looked awfully pouty where she stood. "Come on, IT girl! Smile!"

Whitney Jeffries

Although the Jeffries sister's parents had placed a large importance on learning to ski, Whitney hadn't quite taken to the Winter sport like Ava had. When they were younger, the nerd had attended skiing lessons with her older sister, but after a few sprained ankles and a concussion, Whit eventually convinced her mother to let her forego said lessons. While she wasn't terribly coordinated or athletically included, Whitney did enjoy the outdoors. Had she had someone to go sledding with, that would have been her choice of activity, but it was never as fun to do alone. So instead, the young brunette would spend the snowy days on the mountain tucked away in the warm lodge reading and enjoying steaming mugs of hot chocolate.

Now, however, Whit's face lit up with a bright smile when Evie took her up on the offer to sled down the hill together. Evie took Anna's old spot behind Whitney, and the nerd turned her head a little to glance back to make sure her friend was ready as Caleb counted down. "Hang on! This thing's faster than it looks," She grinned, before turning back around as everyone took off down the hill. True to her words, the toboggan sled whipped down the hillside. While it wasn't as fast as skiing or snowboarding, it allowed the two brunettes to decently keep up with the racers- enough at least to watch the race unfold in front of them. Whit tried to pay attention to who was winning, but soon she found herself needing to focus more on steering their sled to avoid rocks or the slope Parker flew off of.

Laughter escaped Whitney as the wind rushed past her and Evie, snowflakes flying into their faces with their speed. The ride down the hill was a much needed and welcomed adrenaline rush. Whit couldn't remember the last time she'd done anything fun like this, but she made a mental note that she should chase this feeling more often. As the sled slid to a stop at the bottom of the hill with the others, the nerd was still laughing a little and she wiped a few tears from her eyes from the wind, nodding in agreement with Evie's words. "Yeah, that was a lot of fun! Glad you joined." She smiled, before looking over at Caleb as he came over. Whit accepted his help up from the sled and was about to ask who won when the stoner's actions answered her question.

Caleb picked Evie up and spun her around, saying something about a kiss for winning. Whit giggled a little, watching the pair beside her as she glanced between the two. Another possible romance with Anna to thank? Speaking of which, Jace and Cam looked awfully cozy standing a few meters away as the blonde wrapped her arms around the tatted man. Whit let out a content sigh, happy for her friends being able to find comfort in each other, especially when this could be a hard time. Leave it to Anna to send them to an environment to bring out the best in them and allow them to have fun rather than mourn and deal with sorrow. The nerd's dark eyes shifted over to Wes for a moment, considering if last night was thanks to Anna as well...

Lost in her thoughts for a moment, Whitney didn't notice Caleb throw a snowball at Parker, or have time to flee the general vicinity when Parker started to pack together a snowball in retaliation. Only when the brunette heard Parker shout Take this mother fucker! did Whitney glance over at the commotion. But by then it was too late. Parker's snowball caught her square in the chest, and she let out a surprised gasp as the wind was knocked out of her. Thrown off balance by the impact, Whit took a step back to steady herself, but ended up stepping on the sled, which slid out from underneath her. One moment Whitney had been minding her own business thinking about Anna, her friends and Wes, and the next she found herself lying in the snow staring up at the sky. For a moment she just blinked, trying to process what had just happened, but once she'd caught her breath she just started laughing at her bad luck. "Parker, you jerk!" She called over between laughs as she spread her arms and legs out, swishing them back and forth in the snow to create an angel while she was there.

Parker Pierce

The snowbank had caught Parker off guard- instant karma for daring to think Ava could ever be his- sending him flying through the air as he cursed. However, his instincts kicked in as the dormant snowboarder in him was re-awoken, and he landed the jump almost perfectly. The clown grinned widely, shouting out in triumph as he fist pumped the air. Surely someone had to have seen that! Parker didn't have too much time to celebrate his accidental trick though, because the finish line was fast approaching. The snow ramp had given him a small lead, and for a few seconds Parker thought he might just be victorious, but at the last moment Caleb crept ahead and was first to reach the bottom. Obviously his blizzard distraction technique hadn't worked and the stoner emerged the victor. More karma?

Second place wasn't bad though, especially since it meant the clown at least beat Ava who had talked a big game but come in last. Caleb seemed to throw his win in the It girl's face too, and Parker chuckled as she came to a stop. "What was that about having a tea party before I got down the hill?" He asked the competitive brunette as he glanced at her with a teasing grin. "And I didn't even have my lucky beanie..." He added. Parker's teasing was all in good fun though, as he didn't particularly want to piss Ava off, who didn't look thrilled about her placement. The sled carrying Whit and Evie joined the group, and Parker glanced over at them. "Hey, at least you weren't beaten by them..." He added, in an attempt to cheer Ava up.

Glancing over to his friend, Parker turned his teasing to Wes. "Third place isn't too bad dude..." He smirked, before noticing Jace and Cam getting cuddly. He quirked an eyebrow, glancing back to the brunette man to see how he felt about his cousin and the notorious bad boy being a thing. Sure, originally Parker had thought the pair were married and had a kid, but now that he knew the relationship seemed to be in its earlier stages, he'd yet had a chance to get Wes's take on it. Parker opened his mouth to make a joke, when he was smacked with a face full of snow, courtesy of Caleb.

The clown's face felt like it was on fire, the ice cold snow stinging his eyes and tender skin. "Holy fuck!" Parker yelped, quickly wiping the snow from his features. His eyeballs protested when he tried to open them, but he turned his head in his assailant's direction as he heard Caleb call over How 'bout that snowstorm, huh? Grumbling to himself about getting payback, Parker knelt down to pack a snowball himself. Standing back up, he blinked a little, trying to clear his vision, but the world was still a blur. Perhaps Parker would have waited a few more seconds until he could see properly to throw his snowball, but he heard Caleb call over to Ava Come on, IT girl! Smile! and it provoked him.

Taking aim at the blurred figure he was nearly certain was Caleb, Parker let the snowball rip, yelling back with a grin “Take this, mother fucker!” The snowball hit its target square in the chest and the clown added, "Bullseye!" Unfortunately though, as Parker's vision cleared enough to make out more details, he realized that the figure that ended up falling to the ground wasn't the tall stoner, but the petite nerd. "Oh, shit!" He cursed, face palming as he heard Parker, you jerk! called up from the ground. At first he thought Whit was crying, before he recognized the sounds coming from her as laughter, and he let out a breath of relief. "Sorry Whit!"

Turning his attention back to Caleb, he scowled. "I blame that on you!" He said, gathering another snowball and letting it fly in Caleb's direction. He then grabbed Ava's hand and pulled her with him as he took cover behind a tree. "Careful, this is officially a war zone." He joked, kneeling down and starting to form a stock pile of snowballs as he glanced around the tree at the enemy. Parker held out two freshly formed snow balls to Ava for her to throw. "Remember how he mocked you when he won..." He reminded Ava with a grin, motivating her to join his side in this snowball fight.

Up on that hill, for the first time in a long time, Evelyn felt young again. Not to say that she wasn't still young, because she honestly was. But after her parents died, she had to grow up rather quickly. Dealing with an estate, planning a funeral, insurance pay-outs, all of that before she was even considered a legal adult. Responsibility had always been a part of Evie's nature, but that event sent her into overdrive. She became the generous, cautious, ultimately maternal in a way person that she was to that day. Maybe that was why she clicked so well with Caleb, maybe that was what Anna saw in them and the reason she introduced them to one another. Caleb was the imaginative free-thinker that forced the brunette baker out of her shell in more ways than one. He reminded her of the nostalgia and freedom that came with being a kid, even when there were a million other things on her plate that she thought she had to deal with. He was her separation between work and play, and when he left, that separation disappeared as well. She had thrown herself into her work and not looked back. At least, not until Anna died.

The chill had gotten to her a bit, but Evie didn't care. Her heart was racing in a good way, set ablaze from the adrenaline of riding the sled with Whitney down the slope. Her cheeks were flushed, but she grinned in response to Whit's, nodding her head. Evelyn watched Caleb help Whit up from the sled before turning to her. The excitement from his victory made her grin soften, as she could clearly read the joy on his face. Out of nowhere, he grabbed Evie, lifting her into the air and spinning them around. She inhaled sharply in surprise before letting out a light laugh, finding herself on her own two feet again. The brunette wrapped had instinctively wrapped her arms around him, and continued to hold one even after she was sat back down. Her green eyes looked up into his, and it felt as though time had slowed down, the rest of the world fading away even just for a brief moment. "I guess you do," Evelyn answered, actually wanting him to kiss her. Any internal arguments were silenced, and she closed her eyes. Instead, however, Caleb kissed her nose and let her go. And everything came rushing back.

Evie's eyes opened, coming back to the present and realizing the others were still around. She let out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding, slipping her hands into the pockets of her coat. She had let her heart lead instead of her brain for a moment, and she should have probably been more careful. But was that really a bad thing? Almost like a food fight in an elementary school cafeteria, snowballs were suddenly being launched in every direction. One whizzed past her face, barely missing as it flew towards its true target. Letting out a laugh, Evie ducked behind the trunk of a fir tree, preparing her small armory of ammunition. Leaning out just enough, the brunette threw a snowball at Jace and Cam, a grin gracing her features. "You two better take cover if you don't want to get caught in the crosshairs!" she shouted to them with a smirk, already loading up another snowball before tossing it blindly into the fray. Evelyn pushed all pressuring thoughts to the back of her mind, instead focusing on fun and happiness. She didn't even think about the fact that she didn't like being cold. No, this was definitely worth it.

Despite being an overly competitive person, Wesley couldn't help but feel happy in his current state, regardless of whatever place he was in the race. Sure, there might be a prize. But what more could he ask for that he didn't already have. He was successful, wealthy, confident, and handsome. Glancing back at the two women on the sled behind him, however, he couldn't help but think there was one thing he wanted that he didn't have, not completely anyway. If Whit were any other girl, he probably would have tried to seduce her with his charms and signature smirk by now. But she wasn't, and he didn't want to do that. It didn't feel right. If anything were to happen between them, more than just what happened the night before, he wanted it to be real. Wanted it to be intentional and encouraged by both parties. Whitney wasn't just another girl, not to Wes. She was smart and talented, pretty and kind. In his eyes, she was perfect. He just didn't know how to convey that, let alone make her believe it.

Pulled from his thoughts by his ex, Wes turned his attention back to Ava as she spoke, curving so she was just a few yards in front of him. "Don't think I'm going to let you win that easy!" he called back, practically grinning from ear to ear. The brunette businessman bent his knees, crouching more in an attempt to become more aerodynamic, He angled his snowboard so that he moved out to the side of Ava, pulling up alongside her once again. Despite Parker's seemingly unintentional trick as well as how neck-and-neck their group seemed to be, Caleb pulled ahead, beating the rest of them to the bottom by what seemed to be mere milliseconds. "Damn! I almost had it!" Wes said, unable to stop smiling despite his loss. He unclipped his boots from the slick board beneath them, leaning it against a nearby try to keep it out of the way. Never a sore loser, he intended to congratulate the winner but paused when he saw Caleb grab Evie and spin her around. Anna taught him the importance of letting people have their moments, and so he turned to look for a certain someone instead.

Wesley's blue eyes has just landed on the pretty brunette when a snowball hit her squarely in the chest. She stepped backward on the sled and fell to the ground in what seemed like slow motion. Wes had been too far away to catch her, those his instincts wanted him to. Thankfully, though, the sound of Whit's laughter filled the air as she cursed Parker and a feeling of relief washed over him. Pacing carefully through the snow to avoid the icy projectiles the others were throwing, Wes found himself plopping down in the snow alongside Whitney, grinning down at her as she made a snow angel. "You know, I can honestly say that I've never done that before," he said, nodding the imprints in the dusty white substance that her limbs were making. It was true, despite all the time he spent on the slopes and in the snow as a kid. His parents had deemed the activity too "low class for someone of his pedigree" and promptly forbode it. Nevertheless, Wes leaned on his back and began to imitate her movements. "What do you think? Am I doing this right?"

Losing was not a word Ava Novak used often. Quite literally, it was not even in her vocabulary. And so when she crossed the finish line as the last of them all, her head almost popped open. Her old competitiveness of the resident IT girl returned within seconds. While she was not as jealous and petty as she used to be, her nature still caused a small pout to appear on her face as she leaned down to undo her ski boots. “Oh, yeah, get them all out,” she called at Caleb and pretended to be amused but she was actually battling her anger. How could she end up in the last place? That was bordering unacceptable and Ava Novak never lost. Damn fucking tree! One second of not paying attention just cost her. Then again, wasn’t she too old to pout over losing a ski race at this point? Oh, hell no, she was so not! And she was about to propose another race when…

…a snowball hit the side of her head. Just as Ava turned her head to the side, a ball of snow collided with her and she gasped. “What the…?” she squealed but realized too late that a snowball fight had broken out among her friends. “Seriously? Is this what we’re doing?” she asked but a smile still cracked on her face. As much as she wanted to keep her oh so adult composure, it was impossible when the air was filled with laughter and everyone was soaked in fun and good mood. Plus, she still needed to get back at Caleb for not only the snowball in her head but also the mockery after the race. Meanwhile, Parker managed to knock Whitney down to the ground but blamed Caleb for it.

Parker’s hand found hers and Ava’s train of thoughts was torn. His touch was cold but burned her at the same time and Ava’s skin tingled where he touched her. "Careful, this is officially a war zone." he told her and his words elicited a series of giggles from the brunette. Her fingers wrapped around his hand and allowed him to hide her behind the tree. “Then we gotta make sure we’re the last ones standing. Gotta fix my score after that miserable loss,” she laughed and took the snowball from Parker. “Oh yeah, he’s the first to go down,” she smirked and narrowed her eyes, revenge glistening in them. Ava might have been a small girl with a reputation of being girly and delicate but it was just another proof of how her body could lie. She aimed for Caleb and with almost perfect precision, she threw the ball which then splattered against Caleb’s forehead. “”Come on, Caleb! Smile!” she laughed, using his own words against him.

Well, damn. Jace lost the race and he lost quite miserably. He was second to last and only Ava, who got caught by her own feeling of superiority and didn’t notice a tree in her way, was after him. Not that he cared. Sure, he was full of talk and wanted to win but now that he did not, it was definitely not on the top of his priorities. Cold touched up his cheeks and brought some lively colors into it and his eyes finally regained that spark he had always worn as a young boy. Cold wind kept kissing his skin and he was glad that he decided to wear his warmest clothes. Once again, he thought of his little one and a speck of regret appeared on his mind, feeling a little guilty that he was unable to show Riley this place just yet. Maybe once they were done here with their reunion, he could come back here with his son. And maybe, if she agreed, he would ask Cam to…

Okay, man, you’re getting way too ahead of yourself. Just as he thought that, Cam appeared by his side, poking fun at him. “Oh yeah? Did I? What if I let you win, huh?” he grinned, poking her back some more, just for the sake of having the last word. “But I might try and ask for some sweet treat. Though maybe not exactly cinnamon roll sweet.” A little wink shot Cam’s way and as she wrapped her arms around him, Jace’s own went around her and they just stood there, caught in the moment. Finally the man felt like having what he was supposed to have all those years ago. All those years when he let her father discourage him from pursuing his happiness which started the whole sick spiral of confusion and misunderstanding.

Jace was about to lean down and get his sweet reward when loud screams and laughs grabbed his attention. “Oh hell no,” he laughed and pulled Cam aside, away from the harm’s way. “It looks like we have a war going on,” he grinned and pulled the blonde even further. “You feeling victorious again?” Jace wiggled his eyebrows and grabbed a pile of snow, forming it into a snowball. “Give it a shot, I’ll handle the ammo,” he then told her and started making the snowballs. So far, it looked like they all were caught up in their own moments and this couple was safe but Jace decided to turn it to his advantage. With a devious chuckle, he threw a ball at Wes, hitting him in the stomach. “Stop lying around, it’s a battlefield, Frost!” he laughed and reached for another snowball.

Cameron Hale

Completely unaware of the impending snowball fight beyond them, all Cameron could focus on was how it felt to have her arms wrapped around Jace. Her feelings for him had never quite gone away, but she'd been able to fool herself into thinking they had. Only because of the distance between them. But now that he was back, now that they were all back together, it was harder for her to pretend those feelings didn't exist. Nearly impossible, in fact, and Cam had a sinking suspicion that they weren't the only ones who felt that way. Maybe Anna had sent them all here for a reason. Maybe she'd known somehow that these feelings existed, she was always perceptive to the real way people felt. It was almost something magical about her, and now it was reaching them even as she lay in the ground.

The thought was a sad one, but she was quickly distracted by Jace's words as he poked her back. "Oh yeah? You let me win? Is that what you have to tell yourself so you can sleep at night?" She grinned up at him, curling closer to him as he wrapped his arms around her as well. She brought up the sweet treat that Evie had promised him if he won, but his response made her blush and she hid her face in his chest. "Stop it, you big dork." She told him, but her grin had never faded. She finally glanced over at the others when she heard yelling, thinking for a split second that something was wrong. But then the snowballs started flying and Jace laughed as he let out a quick curse, grabbing Cameron's wrist and pulling her away to cover. "A snowball war!" Cameron laughed, taking the first snowball he handed her and throwing it.

It landed a few feet away from them and for some reason, that was the funniest thing to the blonde. "Are we sure I should be the one firing?" She asked through her laughter, taking another ball of the powdery white snow and throwing it again. She just kept throwing them and missing, which only made her laugh even harder but she never stopped. "Oh, good idea!" She told Jace as he threw a snowball at Wes, who wasn't far from them, laying on the ground beside Whitney. She grabbed a handful of snow and then ran back into the warzone, dropping it onto the two figures on the ground before she collapsed beside them. "I love snow angels. Wes, I think you're just making a snow circle, though." She giggled, rolling over onto her stomach and propping herself up on her elbows. "Should we really be out here in the open?"

Caleb Thompson

Riding the high of winning, Caleb threw the first snowball over at Parker, laughing his ass off as he did so. The next one went right to Ava, who looked quite like a sourpuss since she lost the race. After talking all that shit, Caleb couldn't blame her for being upset, but he didn't want her to be. Hell, he didn't want any of them to be. And he was still damned determined to get his prize kiss from Evie, maybe once they were back in the warmth of the cabin. He was so distracted by his thoughts that he missed Parker gearing up to throw a ball of snow at him back, but luckily for Caleb, he missed and hit Whitney instead. "Damn, dude, check your aim!" Caleb watched as Whitney fell to the ground, worried for a moment until he heard laughter coming from the former nerd. Shaking his head, he looked over at Evie.

"Guess we're teaming up now. You in?" His grin widened as he grabbed her wrist, not really giving her an option before he pulled her to the safety of some trees. "You wanna handle the ammo or the firing? Or both?" He held up two piles of snow, smacking them together to make a super snowball to hand over to her. The snowballs just kept coming and going, and Caleb was having such a good time that he didn't even care anymore that he'd won the race. Well, for now. Surely it would come back up later and he'd rub it in a few faces, but for now the gang had officially moved onto a snowball war. And a war it was. Jace had dragged Cameron off somewhere, Ava and Parker had teamed up, and Wes and Whitney were in the middle of it all making damn snow angels. "You two officially SUCK at snowball fights!" He yelled at the last two, shaking his head as he handed Evie another snowball.

Eventually, Cameron darted out from behind the trees and dumped snow on Whitney and Wes, and Caleb got another idea as she rolled over onto her stomach. Holding up a finger to his lips, he grabbed more snow and snuck around behind the blonde, coming up behind her and dropping it onto her head. She squealed as she tried to cover herself, but it was too late, and Caleb was once again laughing uncontrollably. He fell onto the ground, rolling over onto his back and a moment later a snowball slapped him square in the face. "Who did that!" He shot up to a sitting position, shaking snow out of his hair as he looked around for the culprit.

Whitney Jeffries

Still riding the high from the thrill of sledding, Whitney was in too good a mood to let getting tagged by a misaimed snowball, or slipping on the sled, bring her down. Emotionally at least. Physically she'd found herself on the ground, but that just provided her an opportunity and excuse to make a snow angel in the white powder. Besides, the nerd figured it was safer to just keep her head down as a snowball war broke out between the rest of the group. Well, almost the rest of the group... As the brunette looked up at the pine tree framed sky, Wes's face came into view as he plopped down in the snow beside her. He looked down at her with his signature grin and Whitney couldn't help but smile up at him. Her expression shifted to one of surprise though when Wes admitted that he'd never made a snow angel before. "Never?" She echoed, watching him as he laid back in the snow beside her. "Well, we should change that..."

For a few moments, Whitney continued to move her arms and legs back and forth in the snow, to deepen her angel, while Wes attempted to create one of his own. She turned her head, watching the handsome brunette let loose a bit to try something new, and smiled wistfully to herself. What do you think? Am I doing this right? Turning onto her side, Whitney tilted her head over a little to observe Wesley's mishapen angel, and bit her lip to hold in her giggles. "Kinda..." She replied, reaching out and slipping her hand into his to stop him from sliding his arm all the way to his side. "... but you don't need to bring your arms so far down. Leave a little bit of a gap…" The nerd smiled, tutoring him in angel making just as she'd tutored him in school back in the day.

Jace called over to Wes about lying around on the battlefield, and Caleb joined in to offer his own jeer. You two officially SUCK at snowball fights! Whitney laughed, looking in the stoner's general direction, "We're Switzerland!" She called back, sticking out her tongue childishly, before her gaze returned to Wes as snowballs continued to fly overhead. Her hand was still in his, but she made no move to retract it, even if it did prevent him from finishing his snow angel. “I’m happy you’re here…” Whitney confessed quietly, giving his hand a small squeeze. Meeting Wes's blue eyes, she realized though that she didn’t just mean here on this trip, but also here beside her. “Wes, I…” Whit began, feeling a little emboldened in this moment, before being interrupted by the snowball Jace threw at Wes.

"Oh!" Whit exclaimed, her brows knitting as she checked to make sure Wes was okay, before turning her attention to the others to figure out who the culprit was. The nerd's aim had never been good, but she still quickly started to pack a snowball, intending to defend Wes's honor. Or at least try to. Unfortunately, before Whit could discern her target, Cameron appeared with an armful of snow and dumped it on the pair. Whitney squealed, trying to take cover against Wes's side, but there was no escaping the frozen powder that rained down on them, and snow found its way into the gaps of her jacket like icy daggers. "Cam!!" The brunette gasped, quickly sitting up and trying to brush out the snow. "Et tu brute?" She asked, feigning betrayal as she looked over at the blonde... before smiling as Cameron joined them on the ground.

It wasn't long before karma caught up with Cam though, and Caleb answered her question about whether they should be out there in the open by dumping another armful of snow on her head. Whitney couldn't help but laugh along with Caleb, a mixture of giggles and teeth chattering escaping her. The cold was starting to seep in, but she was too happy here with her friends to move.

In the end, it was Ava who delivered the last bit of karma, hitting Caleb dead in the face with a snowball as he laid on the ground. Whitney glanced over in time to see Parker pull Ava behind the tree they were using as a base as Caleb demanded to know who the culprit was. Her sister and the clown had always been close, but they'd been especially cozy on this trip, and the younger Jeffries girl wondered what that meant for Ava's marriage. Whitney wasn't a very big fan of her brother in law to begin with, but she hoped her sister knew what she was doing with Parker.

"It looks like Switzerland is under siege..." Whitney mused, returning her attention to those beside her and grinning at their growing group on the snowy ground. "Evie, Jace... the more the merrier!" She called, deciding to let Parker and Ava hide together a little longer until Caleb recovered from his frosty face.

Parker Pierce

Thinking things through was never one of Parker's strong suits, which had a tendency of getting him in trouble. Had he considered that there was only a one out of three chance that the blurry figure he was aiming at was Caleb rather than one of the girls, he might have waited til the ice stopped burning his eyes. But he didn't, and Whitney paid the price. Had she been hurt, he might have paused his hunt for revenge, but since she seemed to be making snow angels in the middle of a war he threw another poorly aimed snowball at Caleb instead. This one nearly hit Evie though as it whizzed by her face, and Parker grimaced. "Sorry!" He called out to both Whit and Evie as he grabbed Ava's hand and pulled her away with him. The clown didn't need to think twice about who he wanted on his team for the snowball fight. Ava Jeffries (fuck Novak) was a no brainer, and he wanted to both protect her and use her skills as they ducked behind the tree.

The brunette giggled as they took cover, and Parker grinned up at her when he knelt down to start forming their artillery. We gotta make sure we’re the last ones standing. Gotta fix my score after that miserable loss, Ava declared, as confident as ever. The clown nodded, handing her the snowballs he'd made. "Fucking believe it!" He agreed before leaning out from behind the tree to continue the fray. Leaving Caleb to Ava, Parker looked for a new target and spotted Wes carefully dodging the flying projectiles as he made his way over to Whitney. Parker blinked a couple times to try to refocus his eyes, but his vision still must have been impared because he missed Wes by a few inches, making his record 0/3 for hitting his mark. "Fucking Caleb..." He grumbled, wiping his eyes again with the fabric of his beanie. "Hope you're having better luck than me!" He said, glancing over at Ava as she threw her own snowballs.

Parker peeked out from his and Ava's cover, noticing Cameron heading to Wes and Whit with an armful of snow. Not wanting to disrupt her attack, he turned his sights to Jace instead since he was left alone. Finally, one of Parker's snowballs hit its target as he nailed Jace in the shoulder with the icy projectile. Before he could celebrate though, Caleb made the same mistake of leaving Evie behind, and Parker hit the baker in the lower leg with another throw. "Y'all aren't supposed to leave your battle buddies!" He called out to Cam and Caleb, laughing a little at this mess of a snowball fight. He was about to taunt the stoner a little more when Ava's perfectly aimed snowball hit him square in the face. Parker flinched for Caleb, knowing that must have smarted, and he pulled Ava back behind the tree when Caleb called out asking who the culprit was so he couldn't rebuttal.

Parker's eyes were full of mirth as he grinned at Ava, high fiving her for her successful revenge. “Nice shootin’ Tex!” He laughed, leaning his hand against the tree, behind Ava's head, effectively sandwiching her between him and the trunk. He looked down at her, suddenly becoming aware of their close proximity whist hidden from view. Her cheeks were pink from the chill and activity, and Parker could see her breath as the warm air she exhaled mixed with the cold to create small vapor clouds. His gaze hovered on her mouth for a moment, and he got the strong sense that he knew what those lips tasted like. The clown slowly started to lean down towards Ava, being pulled in by the beautiful brunette...

Before he realized what he was doing and stopped himself. Clearing his throat awkwardly, Parker stood back up to full height and glanced away from Ava, noticing the group starting to form on the snowy ground. "Er, ha, looks like we're the last full team standing after all..." He said, deflecting his desires and filling the silence. Parker balled his hand and knocked the tree with his fist a little to take out some of his sexual frustration, releasing snow from the branches above. The powder cascaded down on Ava and Parker like a miniature blizzard for a few seconds, and the latter laughed guiltily. "Shit, oops!" He chuckled sheepishly, quickly brushing the snow off of Ava's beanie and shoulders so it didn't settle and make her cold. "Sorry Av..." The clown, feeling especially like one in this moment, glanced again at the others before meeting Ava's brown eyes once more. "You want to join them, or...?" He asked.

How often can mostly childless adults say that they engaged in a friendly snowball fight, just for fun? Evelyn couldn't help but think that the answer was probably not all that often. But there they were, bundled up in coats and mittens, hats and scarves, tossing balls of fluffy snow at one another in absolute glee. She wasn't a fan of the cold or snow, that much was obvious. Hell, usually the longest amount of time she spent outside in the winter was the short walk between her car and her apartment, her bakery, or the grocery store. And her time from the slopes to that moment was certainly longer than that. Her green eyes darted between the groups that had begun to form, barely catching sight of Ava and Parker as they ducked behind a tree. Jace and Cam seemed to be sharing a moment of their own, and the brunette baker could help but feel excited that her friend was finally seemed to get the happy ending he deserved. Even Wes and Whitney were on the ground, attempting what seemed to be snow angels. That just left her and...

"Guess we're teaming up now. You in?" Evie turned to find Caleb alongside her, his signature grin gracing his features. The voices in her head that argued back and forth about their situation started back up again. But they had little time to do so before he pulled her behind some nearby trees, safe away from the icy ammunition of their friends. "We can take turns," she answered with a smile, taking the snowball from him and leaning out from around the trunk of a tree only long enough to blindly launch it in the direction of laughter. The war waged on, though some of their friends were peacefully oblivious to the fight at hand. Or maybe they didn't care, lost away in their own little worlds. Either way, it seemed that everyone was having a blast, and Evelyn couldn't be happier. That was it. That was what Anna wanted for them when she planned this trip. Friendship, fun, laughter, rekindling old flames. The perfect getaway.

Eventually, Caleb held a finger up to his lips, and Evie went quiet, pausing her snowball assault. She wasn't sure what his plan was but, by the mischievous look on his face, she could only assume it was going to be good. So, biting her lip to stifle any giggles threatening to squeak out, the brunette waited. He snuck around behind Cam and dumped an entire armful of snow onto the blonde. Unable to hold in her laughter any longer, Evelyn stepped out from behind the trees and grinned at her friends. "Fine. But if it gets too cold, I'm running back to the cabin," she answered Whitney teasingly, lowering herself onto the ground alongside Caleb. Almost immediately, though the wet chill began to settle into her bones. The brunette baker found herself shivering a bit. But she was too happy to think about it then. "Seems like karma caught up with you, didn't it," Evie teased Caleb, reaching over to dust some stray snow from his shortened hair. It was certainly different from the long hair he used to sport in high school. But she couldn't deny he looked just as handsome as he did back then.

Was laying in the snow attempting to make a snow angel childish, cold, and therefore potentially irresponsible? Absolutely, to all of the above. Did Wesley Frost care at that moment? Not really. Sure, snow angels were an activity generally performed by carefree children, which he was not. And sure, the cold could possibly lead to an illness or even hypothermia. Not to mention, he was playing around with friends rather than answering emails, phone calls, or text messages. Ever the workaholic, Wesley couldn't help the intruding thoughts that he should be working, despite having told his team only to contact him if absolutely necessary or in an emergency, which they most certainly hadn't held true to. They had upcoming deadlines, meetings and pitches that still hadn't been perfected or practiced. And his app development team was preparing for a soft launch to build numbers and data before pitching to investors. There was so much on his plate that this trip had certainly come at an inopportune time. But he promised Anna, and he wasn't about to back down from that.

Wesley felt Whitney's small soft hand slide into his, and his blue eyes found hers for a moment. He absentmindedly smiled, that familiar tone in her voice taking him back to those nostalgic times when she used to tutor him all those years ago. A snowball slammed into his stomach, bringing him back from those thoughts. Wes sat up quickly in search of the assailant and found Jace laughing in his direction. The businessman was still wary of the tattooed bad boy. But, so far he seemed to be making Cam happy, and so Wes couldn't be upset. Besides, as protective as Wesley was over his younger cousin, she was an adult and could make her own choices. And if there were any consequences, he would help her deal with those later. For a businessman, Wesley Frost was hyper-connected it seemed. It was both a blessing and a curse. Hearing Whit's words, he turned his attention back to her with a smile. "I'm happy you're here too." She seemed like she wanted to say something else. But, Cam appeared then, dropping her own armful of snow on him and Whitney before joining them on the ground.

"Whitney is right. We are Switzerland. We want no part of your war-torn ways," Wesley responded teasingly, a grin clear on his face once again. Despite all that, snow continued to fly for a moment. That is until Caleb took a snowball to the face and the war seemed to cease. Their small snow angel group had grown but a few. Glancing at his cousin, the brunette man shrugged at his so-called "snow circle." He had tried his best, and that was all that mattered. A flutter of snow began to fall from the sky, no doubt intending to replenish the snow they had taken and thrown at one another. Ava and Parker were still hidden. But Wes honestly hadn't noticed their disappearances together had become more frequent. Not that he would care if he had. The "Wes and Ava" story had ended long ago if it ever even started to begin with. What would be more worrisome was that ring on her finger. Still holding her hand in his, Wesley squeezed Whit's ever so slightly in what he hoped was a sweet gesture. "Maybe we should head back down to the cabin soon. It's starting to get cold, and I could certainly use some warming up by the fire, maybe a drink."

Parker ( Desert_Blossom Desert_Blossom )

The snowball fight was a way for Ava to prove she still was that force to be reckoned with, that she still had it in her to stand on top even if the ski race was an absolute failure for her. Fucking dumb tree that got in her way! Ava was definitely not used to that since everything and everyone usually steered clear of her when the IT girl was on her way to victory. For a moment, she thought she lost her edge, that she was not that same old Ava Jeffries who instilled fear in the freshmen even in her sophomore year and who was crowned the queen of junior and senior prom. Those crowns were still sitting on top of large teddy bears in her old room of her parents’ house and served as a reminder that she indeed was royalty. Maybe she should take them with her to New York, maybe the Novak household needed the meaning of those crowns more than those teddy bears.

But now she had her second chance at it and used the snowballs Parker handed to her as best as she could, hitting every target she wanted to. It seemed that everyone was mostly having fun with it, just this couple took it a bit more seriously but Ava didn’t mind, neither did she care. And then her revenge was up and the snowball made its way straight to Caleb’s face, taunting him in the forehead. A salve of giggles left Ava’s lips and she allowed Parker to pull her with him, hiding them behind the tree. Her and Parker’s hand met in a victorious high five and she relaxed against the tree trunk, breathing a bit harder from the effort. Clouds of condensed air were leaving her lips as she did and her chest was rising and falling a bit faster. “I do still have it.” she grinned as Parker praised her aim. “Though I feel I’m getting too old for this shit.” she sighed with laughter and rested her gloved hands on Parker’s body as he pressed her more against that tree.

And only then she realized how close they actually were. So close that Ava could smell the scent of his cold-kissed skin and faint wafts of a manly fragrance. A soap, or his perfume maybe, it was weak but it was there. If they happened to be back in their senior year, Ava would never hesitate and go for it, their lips would meet and she would definitely have spilled the truth about her and Wes. After all, her feelings for the hockey playing class clown only deepened when he kept her company on that one fair, winning her a stuffie. The spark was there but for some reason, they never acted on it and now, now it was too late, wasn’t it? But then, why was Parker leaning closer…? Ava thought she was imagining things but for the briefest of seconds, it totally looked like Parker was going in for a kiss. And Ava? She just began to close her eyes, ignoring all alerts launched in her head because a huge part of her wanted to finish what they started.

But then reality hit them again and they both stopped mid motion, pulling back away from each other. Ava´s breath was even faster now and her cheeks grew redder as she tapped on her thighs. What the hell was she doing? She was supposed to be the loving wife and yet, here she was, reigniting the old flame. But the real question was, did the flame need to be reignited? Because it definitely felt it never went out, it was just lying dormant inside of her until this very reunion. Parker hit the tree, sending snow down on them. Ava felt a few snowflakes fall behind the collar of her jacket and she gasped over the cold feeling they bestowed upon her neck. But then laughter left her lips and she mimicked Parker’s actions as she brushed snow off of him as best as she could. Well, it was a wakeup call if nothing else, it removed a lot of heat. “It’s alright, don’t worry about it.” she smiled. Her eyes were drawn to the group of their friends coming together but when her dark eyes met Parker’s blues, she knew where she stood. “Or…we could just take our time.” she hummed, knowing how costly her decision might be. “We could pretend we didn’t hear them.”

Jace Christiansen was not a romantic boy, nor was he sappy. He never dwelled on deep feelings and was not used to loving someone beyond belief. Until Riley. He never knew a man could be capable of such love but when those tiny little fingers touched his calloused hand for the first time, that heart of ice melted and Jace became a real boy for the first time. After the events of the homecoming, after Cam…after her father destroyed everything Jace was striving for, he really thought he was not put on this earth to find love and the bad boy became even worse. It was a real miracle he managed to graduate and there was a high chance that the principal let him only to get rid of him, only for another Chritiansen to leave the school and not stain the hallways with his presence. He was the last one, the youngest brother. No other threat from their family was coming and the whole faculty sighed in relief when Jace threw his graduation hat up in the air and disappeared to make a career as an underground fighter, closing his heart to love for all eternity.

Then Riley happened and now, now Jace was standing under the snowy hill, his cheeks red with excitement and cold and arms of the tiny blonde wrapped around his much larger torso. And his heart? It was overflowing with suppressed emotion, turning the bad boy into a sap. A part of him was not happy about it, after all, he had a reputation to maintain but deep down he knew that he was who he was and maybe, for the first time in forever, he could allow himself to simply be cheerful and not stomp all around his happiness. He could return to his hard broody self once at home. The mountains were going to keep his secret that all in all, he was just a big happy teddy bear. A softie at heart.

The snowball fight erupted in a moment and Jace dragged Cam to hide behind one of the trees. He formed their ammo and told her to fire although maybe it should have been the other way round. "Are we sure I should be the one firing?" she asked and Jace rubbed the back of his head. “Ehm…no. Not anymore.” he laughed. “Have your skiing victory, this one is mine.” he wiggled his eyebrows and fired a snowball at Wes while Cam ran away and dumped a pile of snow on Wes and Whitney. And then, to Jace’s huge surprise, she joined them on the ground. “Hey! That’s fraternizing with the enemy!” he called out with laughter and walked out from his own trench. He offered Cam a hand if she wanted to get up. After someone hit Caleb in the face with another ball, the war seemed to stop and the whole group came to the middle, laughing and brushing snow off their clothes.

Well, almost everyone. Jace looked around and saw the last two members of their group still hiding behind the tree but it seemed, they didn’t care about the snowball fight or anything else around them, for that matter, since they were too absorbed by each other. “Isn’t she married or something?” Jace hummed quietly as his arm found its way around Cam’s waist again. His voice was quiet enough that only the blonde would hear him since Jace didn’t want to cause trouble but he just had to ask. “Yo! You two! Come on or we’ll leave you out here!” he called out at Ava and Parker. The former jerked her head towards him and her cheeks were suddenly matching the deep red shade of her jacket. “Wes is right, we should go. We can always come back tomorrow.” Jace shrugged and walked to grab his board. “Hand me your skis, Cammie, I’ll take them back.”

Cameron Hale

Cam's question about if they should be out in the open was answered, though not by either Wes or Whitney. Instead, a wet blanket of snow enveloped her from above, causing a squeal to escape her as she tried to escape the snow. Unfortunately there was no getting rid of the cold sensation that shot through her entire body, and she didn't have to look up to recognize Caleb's almost maniacal laughter. He plopped down on the snow beside them, and Cam just shook her head at all of them. "So we have Switzerland with you two," She looked pointedly at Whit and Wes before sliding her gaze over to Caleb. "And whatever country is the bad guy over there." Evie joined them a few moments later, and her comment to Caleb about karma catching up to him caused Cameron to erupt into another fit of giggles which only intensified when Jace accused her of fraternizing with the enemy.

When her giggle fit finally subsided, Cameron took Jace's outstretched hand, letting him pull her up to a standing position beside him. She automatically leaned in closer to him, resting her head on his chest. "Who's married?" Cameron hummed in response to his question, more focused on his arm sliding around her waist than anything else. Her eyes traveled up to his, and then she followed where he was looking and her eyes landed on Ava and Parker by the tree. "Ohhh." She let out a small sound of understanding, tilting her head slightly to the side. "I thought so. But you can't tell me they're not adorable." Cameron turned back to Jace, tilting her head back now so she could peer up at him. "Maybe we shouldn't be so quick to judge." Everyone had skeletons in their closet so to speak, and Cameron was no different.

Wes' suggestion that they all go back inside resonated well within Cam, because the poor girl was frozen to the bone. She let out another small set of giggles when Jace called out to Ava and Parker, but she quickly turned away from the two by the tree to gather her skis. Beneath her gloves and heavy layers, she was an icicle, and a nice drink by the fire sounded really nice right about now. Handing her skis off to Jace, she started to head back inside with the others, trying not to count the steps until the warmth surrounded her again. "Oh, dear god." She shivered at the sudden change of temperature as she stepped inside the cabin, but was still quick to shed her jacket and outermost layers so she wouldn't get too hot. Everything went right into a pile by the door, and she figured the others might follow suit as well. "So, I believe someone mentioned drinks and a fire, right?"

Caleb Thompson

It would seem that Caleb wasn't meant to find out who hit him in the face with a snowball, though he had his suspicions. Either way, he grew distracted from finding the culprit with everything going on around him. To his delight, Evie joined them down in the snow, and he was quick to turn his head in her direction, a lopsided grin present on his face. She called him out on karma catching up to him, and he just scoffed, but the grin never left his face. "Guess it would seem so." He answered her, his eyes zeroing in on her hand as it came closer. All she did was brush some snow from his hair, but he still relished the touch. It meant that there was still a part of her that cared, like she used to. Back before he royally fucked things up. He'd really not considered the possibility that he still had a chance, and maybe it was too soon to be doing so. But still...

Jace's voice shouting over to Ava and Parker broke the moment, and Caleb just rolled his eyes as he turned to look at the tattooed bad boy. "Shut the fuck up over there!" He yelled back, smirking as he watched him pull Cameron up. Already looking back at Evie, he missed Jace's muttered question to Cameron. But even if he had heard it, it wasn't his business if Ava was married or not. She deserved someone who made her smile; they all did. "Come on." He nudged Evie as the others started to move, and pushed himself up to stand, offering Evie his hand to help her up. He accidentally pulled a little too hard though, and when she stood, he brought her right against him. His breath caught in his throat as he automatically lifted his hand to brush some stray hairs from her face, his gloved hand cupping her cheek for an extra few seconds.

But then he saw her shiver again and was reminded that they were standing outside in the freezing cold. Grinning again, he leaned forward to press his forehead against hers, but only for a moment. "I believe you still owe me a kiss for winning." He whispered before he pulled away, offering her a wink before he moved to grab his equipment. Evie didn't have anything to carry back, but he did grab the sled that Whit had brought to drag back to the cabin. Whistling under his breath, he moved to walk by Evie and before long, they were back in the warmth and everyone's wet, heavy jackets and whatnot were coming off. Caleb was quick to do the same, though he paused in doing so when Parker suddenly made an exclamation. "What the hell is he on about?" Caleb asked the room, watching as Parker disappeared up the stairs, saying he had to grab something. "Or on, in general?"

Whitney Jeffries

Even with the icy ground slowly numbing her body as she foolishly laid in the snow, Whitney's heart felt warm as the group of old friends gathered in what was once the de facto Switzerland of the snowball war. If Anna had been with them, the moment almost would have been perfect. It had been years since they'd all been together, but from an outside perspective one would never know. While everyone was getting along and laughing, the weight of the years apart was still felt by everyone, though no one voiced it. To say it was just like old times would be a lie. So much had changed and each of them had grown in different ways. Relationships were in flux, some testing out the "might have beens" from yester years and some too afraid to. Aside from Anna still being alive and well five years ago, Whit wasn't sure if she wished to relive the good ol' days at all. Here and now felt better, at least to her. Though that probably had a lot to do with the fact that if they were still in high school, it wouldn't be her hand that Wes was holding. Decidedly not letting herself dwell on that train of thought though, the brunette just laughed along with the rest of the group as karma did what it does best, and Evie teased Caleb for it.

A soft squeeze of her hand brought Whitney's dark gaze back to Wes, her teeth-chattering laughter softening into a smile as her attention settled on him. Maybe we should head back down to the cabin soon. It's starting to get cold, and I could certainly use some warming up by the fire, maybe a drink. Already shivering, Whitney nodded in agreement along with the rest of the group who were all too happy to follow Wes's advice. "S-sounds lovely." She replied, giving Wes's hand a gentle squeeze back as the snowflakes falling from the sky started to blanket the group. Her thoughts strayed to how they’d kept warm last night without the help of a fire cuddled on the beanbag, causing a blush that was luckily camouflaged by her already red cheeks from the cold air.

Jace's voice broke the silent mountain air as he called over to Ava and Parker that they'd leave them behind, and the younger Jeffries girl looked in her sister's direction. Usually Ava was never far from the action, but today it seemed like Parker's company was enough to satisfy the social butterfly. For a moment Whit bit her lip, not sure whether her sisterly duty was to make sure Ava didn't get herself into trouble, or to let Ava do what she wanted. Another shiver reminded the young brunette that out here in the cold was no place to make that kind of decision though, and she just brushed her thoughts away along with the snow as she stood up. Before she could grab her sled, Caleb already had it in hand, and Whitney offered him a thankful smile. Though, she had a feeling that Evie was 100% to thank for the stoner pulling their sled back down the mountain.

No longer alone with Wes, Whit's earlier boldness (at least by her standards) ebbed a little, the group setting making her too shy to find an excuse to keep holding his hand. She did, however, walk back down the mountain next to him until they reached the cabin, happy to even do just that. Mirroring the actions of those who entered before her, Whit stripped off her damp, icy outer layers and snow boots, depositing her clothes in the now growing pile of winter gear. The cabin offered a much welcomed relief from the cold, but a fire was still called for to fully chase away the chill that nipped at everyone. Whit walked over to the couch, curling up in the corner as she tucked her legs beneath her. Crafting a fire was definitely not in her skill set. She could tell someone how to do it, her academic knowledge serving as an encyclopedia, but didn't have the knack for doing it herself.

Once her fingers thawed out, she could offer her help with getting drinks, but right now- Oh fuck I forgot! Damn it! Whitney jumped at Parker's sudden exclamation as he ran from the room, her heart racing from the unexpected fright. What the hell is he on about? Or on in general? The brunette glanced to Caleb, who voiced what everyone else was likely thinking, and shrugged. A few clumsy thuds and curses were heard from the other room before Parker returned holding a box wrapped in paper. Anna's parents gave me this- they said Anna wanted us to have it for this trip. The clown set the package down on the coffee table. Anyone want to do the honors? Whit just silently looked at the mystery package in reverence, not expecting a gift from Anna from the grave. This trip had seemed gift enough, and now... She shook her head, not wanting to be the one to have all eyes on her as she unwrapped it, afraid that she'd not be able to keep back tears if it was anything sentimental. The box itself was enough to make her heart tighten.

Parker Pierce

Parker knew he was playing with fire every time he found himself next to or alone with Ava. He knew she was a married woman. And he knew that someone was bound to get burned, and it was almost certainly going to be him. Any chance there was of being with the eldest Jeffries sister was snuffed out when even after she and Wes broke up, she chose to go to Yale and leave him behind. It was silly for the clown to still hold onto feelings for a woman who’d taken vows to love another man, but he couldn’t help it when they were so close. Especially as close as they were behind the tree. Alone, while the others all laid and played around in the snow. Just for this trip, Parker wanted to pretend that Ava could be his. Even if just in his head. How much damage could 14 days of flirting do?

Unaware that some damage had already been done the night before, Parker thought he was being the bigger person by not giving into his desire to kiss Ava. He could have, easily. She even looked like she was leaning in to do the same… but neither went through with it. Instead of a steamy kiss, they got a cold shower of snow when Parker accidentally knocked it from the tree. It was probably for the best though, and the moment was dissolved by curses, apologies and laughs as they brushed the snow off each other. Parker asked if Ava wanted to join the others, thinking their absence was sure to be noticed, and he was right. Even as the brunette suggested they pretend they didn’t hear the others so they could stray behind, Jace called out loud enough that it would be impossible to ignore. Yo! You two! Come on or we’ll leave you out here! Parker noticed Ava’s cheeks darken red and he knew they should head back to the cabin with the group. He didn’t want to be a reason for embarrassment, this already being an insecurity of his from years past.

“Come on, we don’t want to turn into popsicles…” Parker sighed, nodding his head in the group’s direction as he left the cover of the tree and walked over to rejoin the others. He grabbed his snowboard, as well as Ava’s, before the pair joined the caravan back down the mountain. He glanced ahead at Jace who led the way with Cameron, wondering if perhaps he needed to tone down his flirting with Ava if it was starting to be mot only noticed, but effectively called out. She was married, Parker reminded himself for the hundredth time, and he didn’t want to make her look bad because of his lack of decorum. Turning his gaze from Jace over to Ava though, his stomach tightened at the idea of pulling himself away from her. He certainly didn’t want to. But did he need to, for her sake?

Once at the cabin, Parker returned the snowboard and skis to the shed, before joining the others inside. He didn’t know what made him think of it as he pulled off his jacket and snow gear, but he suddenly recalled the package Anna’s parents had given him to bring to the cabin. Yesterday he’d gotten drunk so quickly that he’d completely spaced on it. “Oh fuck I forgot! Damn it!” He exclaimed without explanation, ignoring the bewildered looks as he darted from the room. His socks were wet, so his lack of traction didn’t help as he slid into the room, falling a bit as he reached his bag. He cursed, feeling the pain of a stubbed toe, but ignored that too as he unzipped his bag and pulled out the package. He didn’t know why he was in such a rush, it wasn’t like a few more minutes would make a difference after the box had been sitting there for a day already, but he felt guilty for forgetting a gift from Anna and wanted to remedy the mistake as quickly as possible.

Returning to the family room, Parker set the box wrapped in simple gift wrap on the coffee table. “Anna's parents gave me this- they said Anna wanted us to have it for this trip.” He said, a little out of breath. For a moment he just looked at the package, expecting something to happen, before turning his attention back to the others. “Anyone want to do the honors?” Parker felt like since he’d brought the gift, someone else should do the unwrapping. And he didn’t feel like he particularly deserved to undo Anna’s work after forgetting it like a jerk. His blue eyes fell to Whitney as she shook her head, noticing that she already seemed on the verge of tears as she stared at the box. Fuck. Maybe this was going to be a mood killer. He didn’t mean for that to happen, and he was sure Anna wouldn’t want to make them cry, right?

Donning a smile, Parker tried to lighten things up. “Don’t everyone volunteer at once,” He joked before glancing to the baker who’d probably talked to Anna last of them all. “Evie?” He mused, sliding the box closer to her. “Don’t keep us in suspense now…” He said, electing her to unwrap the mystery. Moving to sit on his knees next to the coffee table, Parker tapped his fingers against the surface to offer a light drumroll effect.
