Cam ( apolla apolla )

His own question was bugging Jace incredibly. It was eating at him, not letting go and though the guys were not exactly very chatty on this topic (which might be because of their private parts almost freezing off), Jace was still thinking whether this trip, this place was his second chance. He was definitely not used to life treating him like a decent human being and if he learned something the hardest way, the Christiansens did not get any second chances. It was either or with them, they got that one attempt to make it or break it. And if it was the latter, oh well, tough luck. Maybe next time, pal. Or not.

His whole life, Jace was reminded he was nothing but a lowlife. His family background was not helping either. Especially ever since his father became the infamous drunk who regularly lifted his hand not only on his wife but on his kids as well. Jace’s brothers were already old enough, River even dropped out of high school to help their mom to hold the family up and got a job alongside their dad. Trevor and Martin managed to graduate but the former left the town the second his graduation hat flew high up in the air, never to contact his family again and Martin…was just Martin. He tried, he really did, but the Christiansen luck was stuck at his heel and though he found a job in a local bar and managed to earn some money, one bad investment cost him everything. Even his sanity. As the youngest brother, Jace was determined to do better though it was easier said than done.

His own reputation was already shit at high school, it didn’t get any better after it. He liked to think that Riley was the only really good thing in his life at this point and that if he could create something that pure, that adorable, that maybe, just maybe, his luck could turn around. After all, it was about time he got lucky. And seeing Cam was…well, Jace took it as another sign that he might not be damned just yet. Especially since the gorgeous blonde was not shying away from him and even if there was some bad blood for him being the jerk who stood her up and slept with another girl the very same night, Jace believed he could work around it. After all, it was not his fault. He was damn ready to take her to the fucking homecoming, even bought her a fucking corsage. He wasn’t sure if he was supposed to or not but he had that damn lily ready.

Now he was standing in front of her again. Granted, his birthday suit was not as festive as the homecoming one but Jace kinda like this one better. His mind was hazy from the amount of whiskey and standing out there all naked. Cold was really not helping and the feeling in his feet was slowly leaving him. So the words hot and tub sounded like the seventh heaven. Inviting Cam was a spur of the moment. Or maybe not, right? Jace was definitely not going in there alone and he had enough of his bare ass company for today. He was not interested in turning the hot tub session into a sausage party and honestly, there was no one else he would rather get in the hot bubbly water than Cam.

When Cam’s little hand slipped in his, Jace smiled and gave her a soft squeeze. By now, his hand had to be freezing so he was that much happier that she took it. The two walked to the hot tub and though Jace was sure he could totally figure it out on his own, he left Cam play around. He just needed an excuse to get her here, to be alone with her. And from the looks of it, he did well because Ava and Parker were already leaving together and Caleb seemed more than okay staying there alone with Evie. A grin graced Jace’s features and he was honestly glad things were working out for everyone. Even if this was just some alcohol-induced happy moment, it was something. The beginning, for sure.

Jace helped Cameron remove the cover even though feeling in his fingers was not the best. But he would feel like an ass if he let her do all the work. As she studied all the buttons, Jace just watched her, studied her form, drank in her and had to admit that even though she was always very beautiful, those five years did wonders and little Cameron was not that little anymore. She grew up to be even prettier, her mature features were only highlighting the natural glow of beauty she had and Jace found himself wanting to pull her closer, inhale her scent and…wow, where did that come from? Easy. He always felt that way, just suppressed all his feelings after daddy Hale told him he was not good enough for his little girl. Now, the whole sentimental situation, alcohol and intimate closeness were making those feelings resurface and even a big hunk of a man as Jace was knocked down by their power.

With the first bubbles appearing on the surface, Jace was definitely ready to hop in and start thawing in the hot water but Cam’s voice stopped him. The man turned around to see her take her boots off and truly froze when she took that top off, his eyes traveling all around her body shamelessly. And he even continued doing so when she hopped in. Had Jace not been so frozen, he would have been there to catch her immediately as she slipped but his reflexes were shit at this point. Thankfully, Cam handled herself perfectly and took a seat, inviting Jace over immediately.

Without any further hesitation, Jace got in as fast as the cold-soaked body let him and the second his feet dipped in the hot water, he felt that painful relief sinking in. With a loud groan, he sat down and for a few second, he let the bubbles envelope his beg tattooed body. Jace could literally feel his skin melt and it tingled as if millions of ants were marching up and down, from head to toes and back. “Jesus fuck, you ladies really got us good.” he grinned at Cam and scooted closer to her, throwing his arm around her shoulders. He didn’t care the least bit he never put any clothes back on, after all, he was not ashamed of the body he worked so hard to get.

“Now, Miss Cameron…since we’re alone…” Jace grinned so much his jaw hurt but alcohol running in his veins told him to be bold and the man listened. Why wouldn’t he? It sounded like a good idea anyway. “Where have you been this whole time? How are you? How’s life?” he flooded her with small talk questions but his hand did find her knee, danced around it a little bit before his already warmed up fingers traced her inner thigh up to the middle and back, never leaving her skin, keeping that contact. His face was close to hers and even despite the hum of bubbles in the tub, Jace could hear her breathing. After all those years, this was the closest he got to her and it was safe to say, the atmosphere was never more intimate. And Jace did not mind the least bit. Well, maybe he would regret it once sober. But now, now it was the best fucking idea ever.

Cameron Hale

Proud of herself for turning on the hot tub all by herself, Cameron may have had a little too much enthusiasm when she hopped over the side to get in. The water already felt amazing on her freezing extremities, which only added to her excitement, and she slipped on the wet surface of the hot tub seats. Her life flashed before her eyes for a split second, but she resurfaced from where she'd gone mostly under a moment later, completely fine. With her heart racing and her face warm with embarrassment, she slid her gaze over to Jace, telling him it was his turn to get in. The idea of sharing the hot tub with her crush from so long ago had her completely shaken, even moreso than her brush with death. Maybe that was being dramatic, but whatever.

Just gazing upon his naked form-- trying to keep her gaze above the waistline, mind you-- was making her entire body flush. She'd left her skirt and her tank top on, but still, this was the most exposed she'd been to anyone in quite some time, minus her dancing. She could hide the marks she left on her body with makeup, and she rarely got close enough to anyone and remained still enough for them to inspect her body and find them. Outside of work, she didn't get intimate with anyone. Not only did she not date because the men surrounding her were mostly pigs, but she realized now the main reason why: none of them were Jace Christiansen.

The tattooed man didn't hesitate before climbing in the hot water, and a slightly crooked grin graced Cam's features. In her alcohol induced state, she could wholeheartedly admit that she'd missed Jace. Of course, she'd missed all of her friends, but she'd missed Jace in a different way. She'd missed his touch, his laugh, his smile-- everything about him. There were nights she just lay awake in bed thinking about her friends, thinking about just how her life had turned out. She'd never cared about her father's money, but being cut off from it was definitely a shock to her system. Figuring out a life on your own after being sheltered so much growing up, well, it was difficult.

Jace had absolutely crushed her the night he'd ditched her and the dance, choosing instead to go hook up with someone else. Sure, she hadn't found out until later, but she knew. And she'd never confronted either of them about it, choosing instead to go start her life over somewhere new. And now, here she was, back again with both of them. Tipsy as hell, sitting in the hot tub with the very man who'd broken her heart. But if that was the case, then why was she so excited to be here? Cameron watched as Jace sank into the water with a groan, a small laugh escaping her at his comment about how the girls got them good. "It's not like you aren't used to streaking."

Rolling her eyes, she missed him scooting closer, and she squealed softly as his arm enveloped her shoulders, pulling her closer to the naked man. Her hands immediately found his side, feeling the hard body there, and she nearly forgot how to breathe. Tilting her head back some, she peered up at him, listening to his soothing voice. Her heart beat in her throat when he mentioned how they were alone, but his follow up questions left her disappointed. How's life? A small part of her wanted to tell him everything. About how her parents cut her off, the dancing, the cutting, how much she'd fallen apart... all of it. But the words wouldn't come. Not only because she didn't want him to know how far she'd fallen, but because she felt his finger trailing a hot path up her inner thigh.

Her breathing hitched as he continued to touch her, her inside voice screaming for him to continue. She shivered even though she was far from cold, her body automatically moving closer to his. "Jace..." She started, remembering a moment later that he'd asked about her life. "Life is... good." She lied, her eyes darting away from his face for a moment. It was her tell; she'd never ever been a good liar. Lowering her arms further into the water, she looked across the yard at the others she could see, also searching her mind for something to say to change the subject. "I can't believe out of everyone here, you were the first to have kids." Looking back at Jace, she thought of Riley, seeing his smiling face in her mind and feeling his little hand in hers. "Are you thinking you'll give Riley a sibling one day?"

Evie ( MadiRaiCat MadiRaiCat )

Caleb Thompson

Standing outside in the snow with his friends that he'd once considered like brothers, Caleb found himself thinking back to all the crazy times they'd shared together. Although Caleb wasn't as hilarious as Parker or as confident as Jace, and definitely not prince material like Wes, they'd taken Caleb in and treated him like family. Could they still be that close? Three of them were naked in the snow now, no shame among them, so perhaps. Thinking about what Jace said, about this being their second chance, Caleb almost hoped it could be. Even with their fight before he left, Caleb had never gotten over Evie. Hell, he really wasn't over the fact that she'd slept with Jace, either, but he had to squash those feelings for now.

Thankfully, they went back in the house, but then right back into the cold, finding that the girls had disappeared. Although his focus was on Evie and the fire, he could hear Ava and Parker behind him, and a soft grin was present on his features as he glanced over his shoulder at the two of them. Biting back the urge to tell them to get a room, his eyes traveled to Evie when she asked if he knew anything about fire building. "Who, me? I'm a regular Yogi bear. Or some shit like that." He didn't remember if Yogi was a fire builder or not, but he was a bear who lived in the woods, right? Jesus, he was overthinking things, something he almost always managed to do when he was around the beautiful brunette.

With freezing fingers and other parts of his body as well, he still managed to get the fire going. Asking for a cigarette, Evie pulled the pack and lighter from her pocket, handing them over. He held the pack between his fingers as he held them close to the fire, hoping to get some feeling back in his hands before trying to light the cancer stick. A moment later he was pulling a stick from the pack, placing the filter between his lips. He did still end up fumbling with the lighter as he tried to light the smoke, but after a few failed attempts, he got it. Shivering almost violently against the cold, he remembered that he was indeed naked. Maybe he should have grabbed a blanket on the way out.

As if reading his mind, Evie grabbed one from nearby and threw it around him, having to step close to do so. Her words about hypothermia and frostbite went in one ear and out the other, though the shaky grin on his face didn't fade. "I might be." He whispered to her in response to her very first question, though he didn't get a chance to say more before she pulled away and he felt her warmth disappear. Grasping the ends of the blanket, he pulled them closer together, tighter around him as his eyes glanced towards the warm fire. He heard her soft apology and shook his head, his eyes drifting back to her. "Don't be." He said simply, wanting nothing more than to move closer to her.

He watched as she took a big sip from the bottle of gin. He'd personally never been able to stand the stuff, but it was something he'd drink if there were no other options. He smiled as he remembered one time when they'd shared a bottle at some party, god knows which one. But he couldn't stop making faces as he drank, which had been the source of great entertainment for Evie. God, what he wouldn't do to hear her laugh like that again. That's it. He was doing it. He was going to move closer to her, grab her by the waist and kiss her like he should have done all those years ago--

But before he could even take a step, Evie spoke, halting him in his tracks. He realized what he'd been about to do and averted his gaze in shame, staring into the depths of the flames again. "I get that." He murmured, turning his head towards her yet again when she asked about his own life. "Life is... life." He echoed her words, a wry smirk appearing on his face. He paused, wondering if her last comment was actually a question in disguise. "All over." He answered anyway, even if it wasn't. "That's where I went. Didn't stay in one place too long." He shrugged one shoulder, taking a drag from the cigarette. "I guess this place has a way of calling me back, though."

Whitney Jeffries

Wes's kiss set Whitney on fire, but as he stepped even closer, removing the space between them entirely, the brunette felt like she could just melt beneath the pressure of his body pinning her against the wall. He was so warm, from his lips against hers, to his hand that had found its way to her neck. The closet had been cold when they'd first entered, but it wasn't any longer.

Whitney didn't want the moment to end. It had been nearly nine years since she'd first met Wes freshmen year of high school. Nine years of gradually developing feelings for the young man; of denying those feelings due to his relationship with Ava; of pretending that she didn't wonder what it would be like if things had worked out differently... And now, after all those years, 7 minutes was all it took for her to give in to her secret desires. Though 7 minutes wasn't nearly enough.

Time seemed to defy the laws of physics and what seemed like mere moments to Whitney stretched into nearly 30 minutes. Despite her desire to stay with Wes, to continue to taste his delicious kisses, her lungs screamed that she had to catch her breath, burning with each moment she delayed pulling away from him. Eventually she gave in, and the two separated a little to catch their breaths.

As Wes gazed down at Whitney, she smiled, noting the flush across his face as he chuckled a little, echoing her "wow". In this moment, the nerd of yesteryear was so perfectly happy that she didn't even consider the possibility of things being awkward now or what might come next. At least, not until Wes brought up that no one had come to get them and that they'd been shut away in the closet for nearly a half hour. Whit's cheeks flushed a deeper shade than they already were, now starting to realize that the dare had turned into something more. Were the others wondering why they were taking so long?

Concerns about how this would look, to Ava and to the others, started to swirl in Whit's mind, but they were interrupted by the sensation of Wes tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. Whit reflexively leaned into his hand a little, unable to resist, and a sigh escaped her lips as Wes suggested they should go check on the others. His addition of “Though, I'd much rather stay in here with you for a while longer” was enough though to prevent Whitney from wondering if there was any regret for what they'd just done. She didn't have any, and it would seem neither did Wes.

"I suppose we should..." Whitney agreed, glancing up at him with a look that agreed with the sentiment of staying in the closet though. "Who knows what kind of trouble they've gotten themselves into if they haven't bugged us yet." She continued, slipping by Wes as she moved to the door. Deciding it best to just rip the bandaid off, Whit opened the door and stepped out.

Surprisingly, the living room was empty. Whit quickly scanned the rest of the house, spotting Ava and Parker in the distance in the kitchen. It was hard to make out what they were saying, but judging by their body language, they seemed to be sharing a rather intimate moment. The brunette's brows furrowed a little, not wanting to interrupt the pair, and she glanced back at Wes. Obviously he seemed to be over his relationship with Ava, and likely wouldn't be bothered by her and Parker flirting in the kitchen, but just in case...

The open floor-plan of the cabin did not lend itself well to being in the living room while they were in the kitchen. The bedroom was Whit's first thought of somewhere to hang out, but she quickly scratched the idea, not wanting to seem suggestive. The loft? For now, that would be the safest spot since she didn't hear anyone up there that they could be interrupting.

"Well, it would seem that half the group is M.I.A., so let's get out of here before they all return..." Whitney said, trying to give Ava and Parker privacy. Taking Wes's hand, the petite brunette started for the stairs to the loft with him in tow. She likely was just making things more awkward by trying to hurry out without Ava and Parker seeing them, or Wes noticing Ava and Parker, but she was still tipsy and not thinking clearly. Especially since she was still recovering from the adrenaline rush of kissing Wes.

As she crossed the living room as quietly as possible, Whit stumbled over something on the ground. Glancing down, her cheeks reddened realizing they were someone's boxers, and they weren't alone. The room was actually scattered with different articles of clothing!

"What the hell?" She breathed, kicking the boxers away from her foot. Obviously things had escalated while she and Wes were in the closet. "Unless you're interested in running into some naked guys coming back for their clothes, maybe the loft is safest for now..." She whispered, glancing back at Wes sheepishly. The nerd wondered what Parker had under that blanket he was wearing in the kitchen, if anything. What was Ava up to?

Parker Pierce

Parker was far from perfect. He wasn't the most moral or law abiding citizen. Luckily though, weed was actually legal in California so his unlawfulness had decreased since moving there... but the point being, he had his faults and crossed the line of ethics every now and then. However, despite this, for some reason he couldn't bring himself to cross that line when it came to the woman he loved. (Wait, what?!) In this case though, that line was rather a circle. A golden and diamond studded circle wrapped around Ava's ring finger.

Everytime Parker got close to throwing all caution to the wind and telling Ava how he felt, that ring on her finger would catch the light and sparkle, as if reminding him that she was a married woman and off limits. Parker hoped that Ava was happy in her marriage, really he did, but how happy could she actually be if she was spending so much time with him? He hadn't been shy about his flirting and she hadn't done anything to stop him. If anything, she'd been a little flirty back as well. Much like old times. Though, of course, she was dating Wes at that time too. She was always with someone - unfortunately that someone was never him.

Ava's fit of laughter tore Parker away from his thoughts, and he glanced over at her as she commented on Whit and Wes still being in the closet. He looked over to the little room in question, and sure enough, the door was still closed with no Whit or Wes in sight. "They sure are taking their sweet time..." He replied, a little envious that the pair had been dared into the closet instead of him and Ava. Perhaps if he had seven minutes in heaven with her... Parker shrugged off the thoughts and chuckled a little. "Yeah, I think that's the saying. Or close enough to it." He grinned, enjoying this relaxed side of Ava.

Typically he was the one who was responsible for getting her to smile and let loose, but this afternoon it was the tequila doing most of the work, while he just benefited from it. To him, Ava was the most beautiful girl in the world when she smiled or laughed, her worries that could cloud her sparkling eyes vanishing in those moments. And right now, her eyes were dazzling as she perused the kitchen for ingredients to make hot chocolate. From his perch on the stool, Parker watched her for a moment before posing his question about second chances.

For a few seconds, Ava was lost in thought as she stirred the powder in the cup, and Parker feared he had ruined the moment. However, when she began to reply, Parker found himself at the edge of the stool, waiting on the precipice of what could be some sign that he could hope for something more between them. The brunette woman began saying that there were so many things she'd want to do different, and that she thought this was their second chance. Parker's pulse raced a little, Ava's vague response allowing him just enough hope but not a definitive answer. Was she talking about them? What would she have done different? Could they have a second chance to be together?

Parker wanted to ask all these questions, to force the answer out of Ava once and for all... but she changed the subject, turning her attention back to the hot chocolate she was preparing for him. The class clown shivered a little, both from the cold he was reminded of and from the pent up feelings he was trying to keep hidden. Oh well. They'd have two weeks here... he didn't have to solve all his problems today. The trip was still young.

Watching Ava pour some rum into his mug, Parker couldn't help but laugh. "Are you trying to liquor me up woman?" He asked with a smirk. "I thought you were making me hot chocolate, not a cocktail." Parker teased as Ava brought the mug over.

Careful to not flash the young woman, Parker pulled his arms out of the blanket, leaving it tucked around his waste, so he could accept the mug of piping liquid. "Yes you did, and I'm sure this will warm me up in more ways than one." Parker agreed, reaching out to take the mug. His hand met Ava's, the smoothness of her skin beneath his fingertips making them tingle. For a moment, he just let his hand rest on hers, not fully taking the mug quite yet so that Ava had to hang onto it a few seconds extra. The clown looked at the It Girl that had always eluded him, her dark eyes hiding so many secrets from him. Hiding a whole life that didn't include him.

He opened his mouth for a moment as if to say something, but changed his mind, fully taking the mug out of Ava's hands instead. “Thank you,” He smiled softly, bringing the cup up to his lips to blow on it... and to hide his smirk. For behind Ava, Whitney had just emerged from the closet, pulling Wes out along after her. Parker didn’t his and Ava’s time alone together to end, and it looked like Whitney was beelining it for the loft... Until she fell into a boxer booby-trap. Fuck.

Fearing that Ava would hear her sister moving through the living room and become self conscious of spending time with a naked man, Parker used another question to distract her.

“So what’s something you would have done differently then?” Parker asked, as it was the first thing that popped into his head. He hadn’t meant to really put Ava on the spot, again, but he was curious. Chancing a sip of the warm liquid, Parker almost choked on the surprisingly strong taste of rum, but played it off, swallowing successfully. “Spicy!” He laughed. “I feel warner already!”

nine lives

When Caleb left all those years ago, it wasn't only Evelyn that was affected. Of course, she spent several days hulled up in her room like some girl from a teen drama, shedding tears for a guy who obviously didn't care about her in the same way she cared about him. It wasn't until a few days later, after running into his mom and his little sister that Evie realized he had left his family behind too. And for some reason, she felt like it was her fault. Maybe if she hadn't gotten drunk and slept with Jace, Caleb would have stuck around. Maybe they would have finally gotten together.

But there was no use wasting time on what-ifs. After that conversation with Caleb's mother where she found out how tight things were for them financially, Evelyn began sending them money. It was fairly anonymous as the checks were from her trust fund company and didn't exactly have her name on them. But all they had to do was call to find out who was sending them. Evie just hoped that the thought wouldn't cross Mrs. Thompson's mind. She didn't do it because she wanted some sort of recognition Evelyn didn't really want people to know about the money in that account anyway. No, she did it because she felt guilty, and needed some way to make things right again.

Clutching the glass bottle, Evie took another sip of the liquor, hoping to warm herself as well as push away the anxieties that were crawling up in the back of her mind again. She shivered a bit, both from the cold and the tension, and took a step closer to the fire. Forcing herself to stare at the flames rather than over at Caleb, she heard him speak and echo her words. She turned her green gaze to him, assessing the smirk on his face. Letting out a dry chuckle, Evelyn shook her head as she realized she rather deserved that given her own vague response. They had once been close enough that they could talk about anything. But now? Neither one was willing to give up anything about themselves it would seem. She couldn't talk about her emotions or her life, and he couldn't even tell her where he had been all those years.

"Bullshit," Evelyn muttered to herself, though her slight tipsiness didn't let her realize that she had said it loud enough for him to hear. She took another long drink from the bottle, nearly emptying it before setting the glass on the nearby stump table. Caleb's words set off fire in her veins, anger coming over. Sober Evie would have let that statement lie. But drunken Evie? Yeah, not gonna happen. "This place?" Evelyn asked incredulously, turning her gaze on the brunette man. He was about to feel her fury. "This place, Caleb? What about your mom? Or your sister? Have you even called them? Do you know how much they've missed you?"

Letting out a frustrated sigh, Evelyn shivered as a chilly breeze caught her hair, turning towards the fire once again to stay warm. "This place," she repeated, obviously annoyed. "Or what about your friends? We missed you too. I missed you. God, you fucking kissed me, made me think..." Evie trailed off, not wanting to finish that sentence despite how much that last pull of gin was starting to hit her. She shook her head, settling her angry green glare on him once again. "But glad to know that the only reason you came back was for this place."

Things were quiet, both in the closet and, from what he could tell, outside of it too. He briefly wondered if the others had forgotten about them. And, if they had, what were they doing to constitute that? When Wesley had first heard about the trip, he had been excited for himself. It had given him a reason to pull away from work, to not worry about absolutely anything for a full two weeks. It had been so long since he had a true vacation. In fact, the last time Wes had even taken a moment for himself had been a fraternity spring break trip his sophomore year of college. That was almost three years ago.

That's one of the things that made Anna so special. He had kept in contact with her, sure. Though, it wasn't as often as he may have liked. But she was so intuitive, could read between the lines. Without him even having to say anything, she knew he was overworked and lonely, knew that getting the old band back together would be good for him, and knew that there was no way he could say 'no' if she asked him to go. Especially now that she was no longer with them and no longer able to have fun with them. Instead, they were going to have fun for her.

The way Whitney kissed and seemed to lean into him made Wesley think that she reciprocated the feelings between them, despite the alcohol coursing through their bodies. For a moment, he thought she was going to agree with him in a very uncharacteristic manner, and they would get to stay in that closet even longer. Instead, however, Whit mentioned them getting in trouble and he let out a playfully annoyed sigh. "I suppose you're right." With that, Wes let Whitney step around him, his body already feeling chilled from the lack of hers nearby.

The door slid open, and the brunette man half-expected the others to be waiting silently outside like some sort of prank, ready to tease them. Instead, however, everyone had disappeared. "I wonder where..." Wesley began before spotting Ava and Parker in the kitchen. But before he could go greet them, Whitney grabbed on to him and pulled him towards the stairway. Grinning, he glanced at her and quietly said, "Well, if you still wanted to be alone with me, we could have just stayed in the closet." Truth be told, the thought that Parker and Ava were having some sort of intimate moment hadn't even crossed his mind. But if it had, Wes honestly wouldn't have been upset. Everyone deserved happiness.

Clothes were partially folded and haphazardly strewn across the living room, all seeming to be from the guys. The businessman smirked at the boxers that Whitney nearly tripped over, using the hand that still gently held her to keep her upright. "At least now we know what they're up to. Well, partially at least," he answered with a chuckle. "But yeah, the loft sounds good. Just because I've seen those guys naked in the locker room before does not mean that I want to again." With her hand still in his, he led them up the cast iron spiral staircase into the loft area.

A guitar in a stand sat in one corner, and Wes realized it had been a while since he had picked one up to play. In the center of the room closest to them was a foosball table and, a little way past that was a billiards table. Racks of cues and accessories adorned a nearby wall. A fireplace was built into the far wall, most likely directly about the one that was lit downstairs. A couch sat facing it, probably for movie night on the large flat-screen TV mounted over the mantle. In that corner sat a large bean bag chair that was more than cable of fitting two people. "Well, looks like we have a few options. We could play a game," Wes said, gesturing to the game tables, "Or we could cuddle up over there. I think I prefer the second option. You?"

Parker ( Desert_Blossom Desert_Blossom )

So many things happened throughout those five years. Way too many even. And Ava’s mind slowly started to leave the whole high school experience behind. She loved and cherished all her memories and regretted a thing or two as well but that seemed to be behind her and she basically created a new life for herself. A new life in which she was no longer the IT girl of the high school and the crowned senior prom queen with her prominent king Wesley Frost by her side. Those were the old times and though she was going to remember the cheer and applause forever, her king was now one from a different kingdom. And she was a star lawyer in his company, not the popular girl with the best hair.

It was only when the bad news hit her that Ava started to remember and as she was thinking about it now, Anna might have kicked her. Not that she ever would, Anna was this amazing person with a heart of gold. But it still felt to Ava that she had disappointed the cheerful brunette as a friend. Maybe there was something about Parker’s question. And the second chance. Maybe by fixing her past mistakes, she could get her clean slate, start again. And maybe she might even be strong enough to make a few more, bolder decisions. Hard and heartbreaking, but they had to be done. And maybe it was tequila speaking (definitely, not maybe), but Ava would love if she finally found the courage to confess everything to the handsome boy wrapped in a blanket in front of her. Wouldn’t it be great if she could? What was actually stopping her though. Well, maybe the huge rock on her finger, for one.

And yet, when answering Parker’s question, Ava remained vague. Where the hell was her tequila when she needed it the most? Instead of developing her answers, the brunette moved on to pouring rum into the cheap version of a hot chocolate, being rather generous with it. Hearing Parker ask her about liquoring him up, Ava sent him a smirk of her own. “Shhh, I know what I’m doing, okay? It’s gonna be so good!” she declared, not sure whether she was convincing him or herself more. “Rum makes everything better, you’ll see.” Ava’s eyes sparkled with tipsiness, joy and a little fluster she was getting from being this close in such an intimate situation with a man her heart was screaming for.

Handing him the cup, Ava couldn’t help herself as her gaze fell from his face and traced his upper body as he pulled the blanked down, leaving it only covering the rest. Her body was definitely reacting to the picture in front of her but the biggest stimulus came when Parker’s hands covered hers. Letting out a small shaky breath, the young woman looked back up, her dark eyes meeting Parker’s and at that moment, it seemed like the time stopped. Parker’s hands radiated warmth and she was not sure what gave her more of it, those hands or that steaming mug of chocolate. As his lips parted, the moment seemed so right for those words which remained untold for all those years. Ava’s eyes went a little wider, encouraging him to say it. Because once it was out, she would never be able to resist. And yet, he just thanked her for the beverage and their hands parted ways. The moment was gone.

And yet, Ava felt there was something more he wanted to say than a simple ‘thank you’.

With her back turned to the living room area and her mind on so many other things than her sister, Ava had no idea the couple already left the closet and was making their quiet way to the loft. But even if she had noticed, Parker’s next question almost made her choke on her own air. Her lower lip quivered a little as she looked at the clown, her everlasting confidence suddenly gone. “Very well then…” she started, decided to truly rip the band aid off fast. But the words were not coming, they were stuck in her throat as if she needed that last kick. Glancing at the mug Parker just put down after tasting her improved concoction for the first time, Ava grabbed it and oblivious to the fact that it was hot, she took a generous gulp. Hot liquid burned her tongue but it was nothing in comparison to how rum burned her throat.

“Shit, this is gross…what are you doing? Don’t drink that!” she shook her head, moving the mug aside. “Well…if I should change one thing I’ve ever done…I would…probably never date Wes.” she breathed but since she already started, she had to go on. This whole time, she was fidgeting with her fingers, finding it hard to be still. And suddenly, her wedding ring was gone, disappearing in the pocket of her jeans, as it was getting heavier on her finger. This way, Ava felt much more liberated to continue. “And I would tell the person I actually wanted…the person I have always wanted…the truth.” she finally finished and her eyes darkened a little. Ava had never felt so vulnerable and yet, she allowed her now ringless hand to go up, caress Parker’s cheek, trace his jawline, and in that moment, her eyes spoke louder than any words she could ever utter.

Cam ( apolla apolla )

The idea of hot tub must have been the greatest of all ideas they could ever come up with. Not only it was going to warm up the frozen naked man but he also got to share the experience with his old-time crush. Or maybe ‘old’ was not the correct word to use here because Jace still felt his insides flutter when around Cam. Maybe it was the amount of whiskey and maybe it was the real deal. He couldn’t know exactly what caused him to want to be close to her, to touch her desperately, but Jace could effectively say that even before when they had just gotten in the van and even the day of the funeral, he felt something when around Cam. And hearing her sing, it reminded him of all the good things they all used to have. Her voice was like a siren, luring him closer, making him even more beguiled by the petite blonde.

Her clothes were already soaked, clinging to her slender body in that perfect way Jace couldn’t stop looking at. And he just wished, as much of a thirsty asshole it w as making him, that it was a total pity she left that skirt on. Oh well, he would most likely not even remember his thoughts so that was saving him the embarrassment. However, what he was hoping to remember very well was how Cam looked sitting in the bubbles, giggly and beautiful and how Jace loved the picture of that.

Dating was not exactly on his agenda ever since he got Riley. Before, the first year after graduation, he would always admit he was whoring around, sleeping with any beauty who praised his tattoos. And even some time after Riley came to his life because Jace found it hard to forget his old ways. He used to get babysitters or even brought the dates home, which looking back at it now was truly disgusting, fooling around with a girlie when Riley was sleeping in the next room. Well, Jace learned a lor, grew up properly and became one of those hot single dads.

Yet, he realized that even his best was sometimes not enough since he wanted and needed to raise a kid. It was not just cute smiles and first words but also, Riley needed food, clothes, diapers, all kinds of stuff. And Jace simply couldn’t make that much money. So the idea was born, one that he was still ashamed of a never told anyone, not even Evie. Although she was indirectly a part of that plan every time Jace asked her to watch Riley for the night. And then he went and met those cougars, literally sold himself to earn money for providing for his child. Those nights were something he was going to be ashamed of forever and if Riley ever found out…no, Jace couldn’t even imagine.

And so, dating was not exactly something Jace did in recent years. But for Cameron, he would definitely find a way to make it work. Well, if she wanted. Because now there was no dad who could stop her. Or him, for that matter. Jace now wanted to fight for her and in this little drunken way, he already actually started. Somehow, everyone had found their pair and though Jace had no idea about how everyone felt about their other half of the duo they had created, he was very much satisfied he managed to stay with Cam. Pulling her closer, being able to touch her in so many ways, Jace felt like he was entering his very own paradise. Her skin was smooth where he touched her and for now, any scar on her body escaped his attention. His fingers went up to the middle of her thigh and back to her knee as he didn’t want to go way too far right away. But with every next time he traced her skin, he dared to go higher and higher.

Even though they started this small talk, Jace was not very much interested in it now. They could definitely talk about their lives later. Tomorrow. Or any other day. But not when they were in this beautiful hazy state, enveloped in hot water, more intimate than ever before. “Sibling? I don’t know. Maybe…if the time is right. And maybe the mom too.” he shrugged. “I don’t want to rush into things. Riley’s mom is a piece of work and he was never supposed to happen. Don’t get me wrong, I love that little dude more than anyone. But sometimes I wish he had…a complete family.” Jace explained, realizing the talk went away from what he would like to talk about. Even his hand was now rather resting on Cam’s thigh, not teasing her anymore.

“Anyway…I did miss you, Cam. Ever since…that night.” he admitted, not knowing or not even realizing Cam might have no idea. “I wish I could go back in time…” he whispered, leaning his head closer to her, breathing on her neck. “Things would have been so different…” A hot kiss landed on that one special place on Cam’s neck as Jace couldn’t hold himself any longer. And once he tasted her skin, it was like a drug. He needed more of it, would gladly overdose. His lips touched her neck again, traveling to her jawline. And Jace knew he was being bold, maybe even rude. But Cam was his kryptonite. A girl he could never resist. “I never should have…” His words died in his throat as he was making his way to her lips, finally wanting to know how she truly tasted.

Cameron Hale

Sitting there in the hot tub with her high school crush and the only man she'd ever had deep feelings for, Cameron realized just how deep those feelings ran. Would she call it love? Back then, she'd been unsure, hesitant to do so. But now, sitting here with him and feeling his hands traveling along her thighs, she couldn't deny how she felt. She loved Jace Christiansen with all of her heart, and she always had. Maybe the tequila was helping her with that realization, because it was definitely helping with letting him touch her like this. Not that she was complaining or ever would, but he'd shattered her heart five years ago and she'd made a promise to herself that she wouldn't let anyone get close like that. That promise was obviously broken now.

Her breath hitched in her throat as he continued to climb higher and higher on her thighs, though never going anywhere inappropriate. As her eyes closed some, she wondered if the liquor was helping him be brave, too, or if it was just making him needy. She felt her heart clench at the thought. Was this just another mistake? Was this just him wanting a warm body next to him? She felt tears hotter than the water in the hot tub sting her eyes, but she quickly blinked them away, looking away from Jace for a moment to regain her composure. She knew that the tequila was making her emotional as well, and she definitely should not have drank as much as she did. But too late for that one.

The question that escaped her lips about giving Riley a sibling, she immediately regretted it. Why the fuck had she even brought Riley up when she was sitting here in her skirt and tank top in the hot tub, feeling Jace's hands all over her body? Fuck, that was not even something that should have been on her mind at this point. But he'd started the small talk shit, and that had been what popped up in her mind to ask about. His answer broke her heart, though, hearing him talk more about Riley's mom and how he wished the little guy had a complete family. "He has you." Cameron whispered, her hand moving to rest on his chest as she herself moved closer to him. "That's enough for now."

He changed the subject by telling her that he missed her, ever since that night. Her heart slammed to a stop as the image of her crying on her rooftop in her dress appeared in her mind, and for a moment she forgot how to breathe. She could still see the eyeliner and mascara tracks down her face from when she'd caught sight of her reflection after Anna dragged her inside. Cameron hadn't wanted to go to the party but Anna didn't leave her side that night. She knew everything, from how Cameron felt about Jace to how heartbroken she was. "The night you... and Evie..." Cameron felt her fingers curl on Jace's chest as she went down memory lane, down a road she didn't want to be on.

His breath on her neck distracted her from the memories, giving her a whole new sensation to think about. Goosebumps broke out along her flesh as he continued to whisper the sweetest words ever to her, telling her things could have been different. They certainly could have been, she thought, though words were escaping her now. When she felt his lips touch her neck she gasped, her body trembling as she leaned her head to the side, automatically giving him better access. His lips continued to caress her neck and she heard a soft whimper escape her as he moved closer and closer to her lips, causing her trembling to increase the closer he got. She wanted to feel him, she wanted to taste him...

And then she did. His lips were on hers and in that moment, all else was forgotten. She moved closer, both of her hands finding his chest now as she kissed him back, the bubbles enveloping them in the sweetest curtain, shielding them from everything else. Or so she thought. When she heard the yelling, at first, she thought she was imagining it. But then she heard the heavy footsteps, and she broke away from Jace, turning her head just in time to see Caleb marching in the house. Twisting in his grip, Cam looked back towards the fire, seeing Evie standing there by herself. Turning back to Jace, Cameron looked torn. She knew she couldn't enjoy kissing Jace while Caleb was obviously upset, even if the majority of her didn't want to move away from the tattooed male.

"I'm sorry, Jace. Give me just a minute. I can't... I have to make sure he's okay." She pushed off of the guy, stepping out and over the side of the hot tub. She cast one look back at Jace, still full of sorrow and apologetic, before she dipped inside. Dripping wet, she shivered slightly, stopping when she saw Ava and Parker in the kitchen. Ava was caressing Parker's face and it made Cameron want to go back to Jace, but she had to check on Caleb. Moving past the other two at the counter, she found Caleb in the living room, pulling on his pants, face red with anger. "Caleb." She stopped at the edge of the room, hesitating before moving closer. "Caleb, what happened?"

Caleb Thompson

Once upon a time, Caleb had been a lost, lost boy. He had no sense of direction for his life, no sense of what he wanted to do. All he knew was taking care of his family and slinging dope in order to do so. He hated the risks he had to take to be able to provide for them, but it's what he had to do. There were many times he almost got caught, where the 'almost' was almost nonexistant. He escaped more than once by the skin of his teeth, and he still remembered how it felt to have his heart hammering against his ribs as he fled the scene. He'd seen things he definitely shouldn't have as a high school kid, and even younger. Death, murder, overdoses, robberies, you name it. And he'd even been involved in some of it.

To be fair, some of that was still the case now. He was still fairly lost, but if he were being honest with himself, meeting Evie had given him some sort of direction. Maybe that wasn't fair to put that on her, and that was likely part of the reason he left. He'd refused to think of it on a deeper level, and if he caught himself trying to do so, he'd immediately shove the thoughts away. Although he didn't participate in some of the harder drugs, he'd definitely smoked and snorted more than a few things to distract himself from thoughts of the beautiful brunette who'd given his life purpose. He still remembered leaving, still remembered thinking it was for the best, but standing here with her now he wondered if he'd been a fool.

When he spoke, mentioning how this place had a way of drawing him back, that wasn't exactly the truth. What he'd meant to say, what he should have said, was how these people had a way of drawing him back. Because they could be anywhere, and he'd always come back. This cabin had nothing to do with it, not the church or their hometown, either. But apparently, he hadn't expressed himself well. Hearing the somewhat muttered curse of Evie calling bullshit, Caleb's eyes shot towards her as the fire raged on in front of them. Although it was keeping his body warm on the outside, he couldn't help but feel suddenly cold on the inside, freezing even, as he watched her take another long swig from her bottle.

"What did you say?" He asked as she set the glass bottle down, turning on him with an anger that surprised him. She echoed his words and he glanced around, confusion etched on his face as his eyes landed on hers once again. He saw the anger there, the hatred even for what he'd said, and it was in that moment he realized just how badly he'd fucked up. She brought up his mom and his sister, and he felt his body stiffen. The ice inside only grew, enveloping his other organs as he stared at the angry, tipsy woman before him. "No." He responded, his voice matching the ice he felt inside. "I haven't." And he hadn't. When he'd left five years ago, it was to better their life. Or so he'd told himself. But maybe now he realized how selfish he'd been.

The brunette turned back to the fire, and Caleb wanted to step towards her as he heard the sigh she let out. Repeating his words for a second time, he narrowed his eyes as she pushed on. His heart cracked as he brought up the fact that she'd missed him and the night he'd kissed her. Right before he left, his lips still bloody from his fight with Jace. As she turned her angry glare on him again, he could feel his own anger spike. "That's not what I meant, Evie. But fine, take it how you want it. All I meant was..." He trailed off, biting the inside of his cheek to keep from saying something he'd regret. But would he regret it? His anger was growing, and he knew he'd said worse when less angry before.

Looking back at the fire, Caleb shook his head, closing his eyes to try and reign himself in. "Fuck this. My mom and my sister are better off without me, and so are you. That's why I left, Evie, and I came back..." His voice cracked, and he shook his head again. "For Anna." He whispered, turning his gaze on her again. "And for my friends. But if you truly think I only came back for this fucking place, then so be it. Think what you want." There was so much more on the tip of his tongue, but he bit everything back, feeling the poison building in his mouth as he bit back the words. "So much for a second chance." He thought of Jace's words from outside and spun on his heel, marching back up the stairs and by the hot tub, back into the house.

Ignoring the two in the kitchen, he threw the blanket off of him once he reached the living room, locating his boxers and his pants. He was in the middle of yanking them on when he heard Cam's voice, and his head jerked up. He hadn't even realized she'd left the hot tub to follow him. "Nothing." He answered her, his voice full of more hurt than he'd hoped it would be. She approached, though, having never been one to give up easily when she knew something was wrong. He ran his hands through his hair, turning and venturing down the hallway, hearing Cam's light steps behind him. "I fucked up, Cam. Again. And she'll never forgive me." The last part was moreso spoken to himself, but he knew she heard.

"I think she will, if you just go talk to her."

Whitney Jeffries

When Whitney received the letter from Anna, explaining that the dearly departed young woman wished for her friends to take one last trip to the cabin in her honor, she knew that these two weeks would bring up old memories from the past. What Whit didn't know was that the cabin would also bring up old feelings too. Feelings that Whitney hadn't ever told a soul (not even Anna) about; that she'd tried to pretend she didn't have for 4 years; and that she'd thought she'd outgrown since graduation. However, seeing Wes at the funeral and sitting next to him on the ride over was all it took for the nerd's feelings to come rushing back.

However, this time, Wes was no longer off limits, and Whitney was a little bolder than the shy nerd of her high school days. And with the help of some liquid courage, Evie's dare and a small closet, Whit finally acted on those dormant feelings that had been reawakened.

Her kiss with Wes left her pulse racing as they slipped out of the closet, the presence of Ava and Parker in the kitchen serving as one of the few reminders that she was still in reality and not dreaming. As much as the brunette would have loved to remain locked away with Wes, the logical part of her was afraid of how it would look or what it would mean if she did. Though even as Whitney began pulling Wes towards the stairs to the loft, his teasing comment about wanting to still be alone with him wasn't completely false.

Whitney had told herself going to the loft was so Ava and Parker could have privacy, but deep down maybe she wasn't ready to let her time with Wes end. Glancing back with a light blush, Whitney almost let go of Wes's hand so as not to seem too eager, but the pair of boxers that tripped her up only made her hold onto his hand tighter as he kept her from falling. Okay, yes, she still wanted to be alone with Wes, but she also pointed out the benefit of going to the loft to avoid running into the other naked men. After surveying the mess of clothes around the living room, Wes agreed that the loft was the best plan of action and led the pair the rest of the way up the stairs.

The loft was the perfect hangout spot, complete with game tables, a large flatscreen, inviting seating and a cozy fireplace. Last time the group had spent many nights up there laughing and having fun, and Whitney got lost in thought for a moment remembering how Anna had somehow beat everyone at pool. She ran her fingers along the edge of the foosball table, laughing a little at the memory, before turning her attention back to Wes when she heard him speak.

"Oh..." Whit uttered, glancing between the foosball table and the beanbag chair where Wes suggested they could cuddle. The butterflies fluttered in her stomach again when Wes said he'd prefer the second option, knowing that she would as well. Whit gave one of the foosball pegs a twirl for old time sake, before lifting her gaze to Wes. "You know, I always sucked at these games anyways..." She replied with a coy smile.

Self restraint be damned. Whit had already denied herself more time in the closet with Wes, and for what? Because she was insecure? She had the most amazing man in the world wanting to cuddle with her and if that wasn't a confidence boost, then Whitney didn't know what was. They'd already kissed, so the damage (if it could even be considered that) was already done. Spending a little more time in Wes's arms wouldn't make the next two weeks anymore awkward that they already might be. But it would make the next little while incredibly enjoyable.

Before she could change her mind, Whitney walked over to the oversized beanbag chair, her hand still in Wes's. Though her heart was starting to beat faster, her confidence in her decision was growing. Letting go of the class prince's hand to plop down into the oversized beanbag as gracefully as possible, Whitney realized how quickly her hand felt cold without his in it.

She glanced at the fireplace and almost suggested they light it, before she changed her mind in what could be considered a drunken stroke of flirting genius- at least by Whit's standards. While it would be sensible to have a fire to keep them toasty, the brunette recalled how warm Wes had been in the closet while pressed against her. And if they were going to cuddle... then his body heat would surely do the job better than any fire could. Whit could feel her cheeks warming just at the thought, and she glanced up at Wes, scooting over to make room for him.

Parker Pierce

Parker could feel Ava’s gaze on his exposed body as she handed him the cup of spiked hot chocolate. Truth be told he wish he had more than just her eyes on him though. Especially once their hands met and the thrill of simply brushing her soft skin radiated through him. Ava Jeffries was a drug that Parker just couldn’t quit, yet was a high he was always chasing but could never quite reach. When Ava’s eyes flicked up to meet his, Parker wanted nothing more than to confess to the beautiful brunette everything that he’d held back for years.

The expression on Ava’s face practically begged Parker to admit what she couldn’t, or rather shouldn’t, as a married woman. But he... he could put words to the feelings between them without betraying anyone. Without breaking a vow. Parker could step off the ledge freely, and hope that once the truth was admitted, Ava would choose to jump after him. The class clown opened his mouth to finally take the plunge, but all that left his mouth was a “Thank You.”

Because as luck would have it, the moment was interrupted by the sudden appearance of Whit and Wes beelining to the loft. In an attempt to distract Ava and prevent their intimate moment from dissolving into being casual friends again, Parker instead asked the question that weighed heavily on him, but hadn’t actually meant to ask aloud. What would Ava have done differently if she could?

The way Ava’s lip quivered at first made Parker instantly regret his inquiry, and he almost rescinded the question, but Ava started to reply. Though not until she drained some of the rum disguised as hot chocolate from his mug. Parker tried to stop her from drinking it, or at least warn her that it wasn’t as good as he had pretended it was, but it was too late. The brunette nearly choked on the hot liquid and Parker winced apologetically when she exclaimed it was gross and told him not to drink it. “I didn’t think it was that bad...” He said, still trying to make Ava feel better about her concoction. Hell, Parker had planned to stomached it since Ava had made it for him, gross or not.

After moving the mug aside, Ava finally continued answering the question that hung in the air. Immediately Parker’s heart began to beat faster when the brunette admitted that she wouldn’t have dated Wes in high school if she could change one thing. While Wes was his best friend, and Parker had sworn to himself that he’d never interfere with his relationship with Ava while they were together, it was a little satisfying to know that the It Girl and Prince’s relationship wasn’t the fairytale it seemed to be. That she regretted it even. Which could mean...

And I would tell the person I actually wanted…the person I have always wanted…the truth.

Parker had let himself hope when Ava mentioned not dating Wes that there was someone else she wanted. He’d let himself hope that someone was him. And as those magical words escaped from Ava Jeffries luscious lips Parker felt like he could just explode from all the pent up emotions he’d choked down for the last 9 years. His mind was running a mile a minute and he couldn’t even tame it long enough to say anything yet.

Ava’s hand found its way to Parker’s cheek, caressing it as she gazed up at him, so stunning and so vulnerable in this moment. Parker leaned into Ava’s touch, and he raised his hand to capture Ava’s as it traced his jawline. His eyes widened a little when he realized that the diamond he expected to feel on her finger was absent. The obstacle that had been a constant reminder not to cross the line... was gone.

“Ava I...” Parker began, his voice low and heavy with emotion that threatened to swallow him. He was ready- they were ready- to finally put into words what had always been between them. But the universe wasn’t ready. As if some cruel joke, Caleb and Cameron came into the living room, the former obviously upset about something and the latter dripping wet, interrupting Parker and Ava’s moment again. “Fuck it all...” Parker uttered exasperatedly as he lowered Ava’s hand from his face, looking over at their two friends.

Luckily Caleb was quick to pull his boxers and pants on, and continued into the hallway where Cam followed. Something had happened outside and was wrong. Had Anna been there, she would have dropped everything to check on Caleb and right the situation, but Parker wasn’t Anna. She was a saint and Parker was... an asshole by comparison. Because as much as he knew he should check on his pal, he didn’t want to leave Ava’s side. Glancing between the direction Caleb and Cam had disappeared down the hall and the elder Jeffries sister, Parker made his decision.

Not caring who might see, Parker used his hold on Ava’s hand to pull her closer to him. “Ava I...” He started again, trying to get the words out this time, but once again they were interrupted... This time though by Parker’s lips crashing against Ava’s as he finally gave in before anyone else could stop him. His other hand found her waist, snaking around it and pulling her against him as he stood from the stool. The blanket held up in place between their two bodies. Parker lost himself for a moment, utterly consumed by his desire for Ava and the need to taste her delicious lips. His words had failed him, but his actions said everything he needed to in this moment.

Evelyn's life had been filled with disappointment, abandonment, darkness. She lost her parents far before their time. Without any living relatives and no siblings, she was shipped across the country to an aunt she had only met once when she was a child. Her aunt was young, single, and certainly not prepared for a teenage kid. Combined with planning the funerals of both parents and the lack of any parental supervision, Evie had to grow up fast. She was a true adult, paying her own bills and taking care of herself before those her age had to even think about it. And for a while, she thought she was alone in that. After all, she hadn't met another orphan.

But then her friend group came along, each with their own issues that they dealt with privately, and each being supportive of the others regardless of their secrets. Meeting Caleb felt euphoric, like she had finally found someone who truly understood what she had gone through even if she never directly told him. His life was just as complicated as hers, in a similar tragic fashion. And just when Evie had gotten comfortable with her feelings, he was gone, crushing them into the ground. Their friend group began to crumble, even though Anna tried to be the center of it all, the origin of everything. But now, she was gone too. Everyone always left.

Okay, maybe she was being harsh on the brunette man, overreacting and reading into his words far too much. But didn't he realize how bad he had hurt her by leaving again, just when she started to trust him deeply? Evie nearly flinched when his gaze met hers, finding the coldness there. Did he really have no feelings for her anymore? Or maybe it was all fake to begin with? Her heart hurt, and she shook her head at his words. "If you honestly think that I was better off without you, that any of us were, then..." she tried to respond, but her words trailed off as Caleb snapped his final sentence and retreated into the house. Evelyn stood there, next to the fire but still frozen.

She fucked up, really fucked up that time. And she had no idea how she could fix it. If she had never slept with Jace... If she had never caught feelings for Caleb... If Anna was still with them... Hot tears fueled by a mixture of sadness and anger threatened to spill from the corner of her eyes. Evie shoved them back, taking one last gulp from the bottle of liquor. With a loud exclamation of "Fuck!" she threw the bottle at the fire pit as hard as she could, watching it shattered into several large pieces. Realizing what she had done, Evie sighed and, in a less-angry-more-annoyed tone, said a quieter, "Fuck." Needing some way to deal with the stress, she lit another cigarette between her lips. What in the hell was she supposed to do now?

Wesley Frost had never been much of a passive man. As the son of an attorney-model power couple that was rarely around to care for their son, he never really wanted for anything. His mother and father were firm believers in the idea that money solved all problems, and were more than happy to through their bills as anything that would make their life easier. Unfortunately, that included the wants of their son. They would send piles of lavish gifts on birthdays and other holidays, oblivious to the fact that all their son really wanted was time with them. As he grew older, he began to fall into similar beliefs. If there was something he wanted, Wes was headstrong, determined, and persistent in pursuing it. That usually went for girls as well. But Whitney was different.

With her, he didn't want to take things fast like a roller coaster, not caring about the ups and downs as long as he got to the destination. She was the first girl in his life where, despite everything he knew, he wanted to take things slow. What an odd concept, taking things slow was. In some ways, it was a detriment. The early bird gets the bird, but the slow one loses it to a competitor. But here, it meant actually spending time with one another, getting to know one another, rather than simple, mindless small talk like elevator conversations were usually made of. Wesley had known for quite some time that his feelings for the younger Jeffries sister were real. For most of high school, he didn't know how to approach them without disappointing his parents. But now, he was an adult with a high-powered job, and he simply just didn't care.

Whitney's soft voice pulled him from his slightly clouded thoughts, and Wes turned his blue gaze to the girl at his side. He offered her a charming grin, one that was a signature for the Frost man, her hand still in his. "I remembered being hustled at those very pool tables before. It's safe to say I'm not as good as I think I am either," he answered with a low chuckle, rather happy with her choice of bean bag chair. The businessman let her lead him over to the chair, still hand-in-hand. It wasn't until Whitney moved to sit down that her palm left his. Whit quickly moved over to create space for him. Wes grabbed the TV remote from the mantle and put it on the side table were they to want to watch a movie. Then, he took a seat alongside the beautiful brunette.

Though their bodies had just been pressed against one another in the closest, Wesley already found himself missing the feeling of her. He lifted an arm to wrap around her shoulders, gently pulling the petite law student in his side. He had missed her quite a bit, wanted to know about her. Short text conversations started by questions he could have easily Googled the answers to were most certainly not preferred. But they were enough at the time. Wes let them sit in silence for a moment, enjoying the presence of one another before quietly asking, "So tell me, Whitney. How's law school treating you? What's really been new with you?"

Parker ( Desert_Blossom Desert_Blossom )

The words were there. All of them. Unspoken but very much true. It was pretty obvious that Parker wanted to say something and so did Ava but even the amount of alcohol was not helping to finally cross that one border. The very last border so they could truly be together the way they both wanted. And though Ava could positively say she was drunk and a royal hangover was awaiting her the next morning, she was still unable to stumble the words out just yet. That was exactly why her eyes were literally drawing those words out of Parker, trying to pry it out, to finally do it so she could get rid of the shackles binding her hands behind her back.

And yet, it was just a quiet thank you and the chocolate was passed with an amount of electricity that would be able to supply Vegas for a week. It was just her fingers to touch the man in front of her but the warmth moved, coursed through her to her whole body, hit every nerve ending the girl had in her and Ava shivered from the flock of wild butterflies that suddenly appeared in her tummy. Even more so when Parker dropped his question and Ava needed to answer. Well, she technically didn’t have to say anything or change the topic, say something different or just plainly lie. Yet, her brain was yelling at her, she was not thinking exactly straight and the spiked muck which was supposed to be a cup of spicy hot chocolate only added to her current state. There had always been something between them, something unspoken. And deep down, they both probably knew. And hearing Parker lie about how he didn’t think the chocolate was that bad only made Ava feel warmer.

Once her ring left her finger, disappearing in her pants, it felt like a ton of bricks dropped from her back, the elephant sitting on her chest finally decided to lift his ass and move somewhere else. And with that, her words slipped out more easily than she would ever expect, her hand found his face and she simply explained how she would never date Wes if she could change it. Truly, if her and Wes’ parents had not forced them, Ava would have never dated the school’s Prince and maybe things could have been different, maybe she would be married now as well but happily, her body would not be covered in blue, purple and yellowish stains her husband had put on her and maybe…this night would not be about could have beens and confessions but about a married couple enjoying a reunion with their friends. Just maybe…

But since she opened her mouth, since she started talking, she had to finish and was only too glad to feel Parker lean into her touch, his hand met hers and they lived through their first honest moment, the first time they actually decided to be honest with each other. And when Parker started talking, saying her name out loud, Ava became hopeful like never before and once again, her eyes pinned into him, encouraging him to continue. But as much as she missed her sister and her ex leaving the closet and disappear upstairs, she definitely noticed Caleb to barge in, all furious and irritated, followed by Cam. Whatever happened, it had to be juicy. Something was telling her that this was not the pairing she would expect but then again, how was that her business? No one would expect her to have little moments with Parker. In her state, she was not in a mood to deal with drama, rather decided to focus on what was in front of her.

And for sure, Parker pulled her closer as her name slipped out of his lips again. But this time, he was not waiting around and took Ava by surprise when his lips crushed hers, eliciting a quiet squeal, eyes wide open for a second and shocked Ava, shaking her to the core. The brunette was surprised at first but it didn’t take her long, especially after Parker’s arm found her small waist and their bodies ended up pressed tight on each other, that she eased into that kiss, finally tasting that forbidden fruit which she was in a mood for since high school and even longer. Sighing contentedly, her hand rested on the side of his neck as they indulged in a kiss that was way overdue.

It took Ava a second to realize what was happening but honestly, she was not against it. Thoughts on how wrong and inappropriate it was were going to bother her maybe tomorrow. At this point, she wanted to savor the taste of Parker’s lips, warmth radiating from his naked skin and the heat of the moment shared as they lips caressed each other, leaving Ava breathless. Pulling away after a while, she was slightly panting, her eyes shone not only with tequila but also with the excitement she felt and she did not move away more than an inch. “I don’t think I like that.” she spoke, her face serious but that one spark in her eyes was playful as ever. “You taste like that shitty chocolate.” she added as her lips twisted in her signature smirk. “Maybe I should try again.” And with a quiet giggle, the brunette placed both hands on his neck, diving for another kiss, bolder than the first one, more wanting, hungrier. Well, they did have literal years to make up for and Ava was not backing out now. Even her tongue came out to play, tracing the line of Parker’s lips, and her hands moved up from his neck, fingers disappearing in that sexy messy nest of hair. Anything could happen at that point, anyone could enter the kitchen. Ava cared very little as she was finally getting what she desired all those years. The boy she loved.

Cam ( apolla apolla ); Evie ( MadiRaiCat MadiRaiCat )

Had Jace been sober, he would never have been this daring towards a girl he was interested in. Jace was an asshole, a royal kind, often treated women in a way he should not and definitely was not the type to call the next day. Neither the day after or in three days. He was just programmed that way and didn’t look to change things. And yet, around Cam, he seemed to be different. While he would have exactly zero problem to touch or even grope a girl in a hot tub, with Cam, he would have been gentler, would have gone step by step. It was whiskey that was fueling his bold hands and he did trace his way up her inner thigh and down, with each move getting higher and higher and yet never getting way too bold. They would have the whole trip to get into the depths of what their relationship actually was.

It was not for the lack of intimacy in Jace’s life. He could honestly say he had enough sex. Whether it was that fulfilling kind, that was debatable but it helped him to pay for Riley’s kindergarten and anything the boy would want for. But no, Jace was not doing this because he was trying to get what he was missing from Cam. In a way he was but it was not like that. His motivation was elsewhere, not in teasing her into one passionate night, a nice roll in the sheets and that’s it. He rather wanted what he had asked the guys about. His second chance. And his current state was helping him to attempt that.

The only surprise came in form of her question about Riley and a possible sibling. Jace had never thought about it before but since she asked, his head automatically went spinning. He could have blurted anything, could have lied, could have just distracted her somehow. And yet, the gears in his head started to turn and turn and turn until he came up with an answer not only to satisfy Cam but also him. And ass it would happen, apparently it worked even better than he intended as Cam’s delicate hand landed on his chest. Even in that hot water, Jace felt her hand leaving a searing mark in his inked skin and it was going to be the best kind of tattoo he had ever gotten. Her soft voice curled in his ears and it was sweeter than the paradise music. At that moment, Jace realized how much he actually missed the girl

And he told her. The words themselves left his lips so naturally that Jace didn’t even have to think about it. It simply happened because he meant ever single syllable. He did miss her terribly and everything could have been different if only they had been given a chance. His lips found her neck as the man needed to taste her skin, cold from the freezing weather. He was making his way, slowly but surely, to where he wanted to put his lips in the first place and kept whispering. But Cam said something herself, something that had him stop for a second. The night he and Evie...

“The night I lost you…” he corrected her because the fact that he and Evie hooked up was hovering over them but neither Jace nor the pretty baker ever pondered over it. Not once they wondered if they could have been more. To Jace, Evie was like a sister and she was insanely good with Riley. They simply did what they did and that was it. A drunken one-night stand and nothing more. Never more. And so Jace whispered those words to Cam because he remembered the night that way. Losing the one woman that could have changed everything. Losing her because it was her father who thought Cam would be throwing her future for the likes of Jace. And while Jace never said he was the perfect man, the best deal out there, he would still prefer if Cam ever gotten a chance to tell him herself. If she ever would.

And then he did it. He sealed the deal, captured her lips in the sweetest kiss, one he had been waiting for ever since the Homecoming bullshit went down. And damn if it was not even better than he ever imagined. Her hands, both of them now, were touching his chest, expanding the seared skin tattoo he was getting from her touch, the bubbling water was the perfect soundtrack to their moment and Jace moved his hand to her waist, pulling her closer and closer. Wild images were popping out in his head as he kept kissing her, deepening the kiss, tasted the inside of her mouth and…and the shouting from behind them broke the magic.

Jace recognized the voices but he was way too tantalized and honestly, at that very moment, he didn’t care. It was Cam who wiggled in his arms and he felt it coming even though he didn’t want to admit it. His grip on her body tightened but it was not like he would force her to sit there. And yet, when she apologized, it felt like his heart was torn out of his chest. Especially after she decided to go after Caleb. Well, fuck you, Caleb, you major cockblock. Jace could just tear the stoner in four parts when Cam slipped out of the tub and, dripping wet, walked inside after the dude.

Groaning with annoyance, Jace settled back in the tub, realizing that he was just getting even visibly excited. Well, the fact that Cam ran away to see if baby Caleb was alright really discouraged that mood and his body realized it as well. But it was the sound of shattering glass and a loud cuss of a familiar voice that had Jace to look back only to see Evie standing at the pit alone. Apparently, things got heated. Hating to see his closest friend upset, Jace decided to get over there. But the second he stepped out of the tub he realized that going there wearing his birthday suit was not exactly the way. And his boxers and all that were still inside. Thank god for a batch of clean towels kept in a basket at the tub. After a moment of looking around, Jace managed to locate it and wrapped one of the clean ones around his waist, making sure it was fastened well as he was not interested in showing off the goods at this point. The cold was a total bitch, biting deep in his muscles, making him clatter his teeth a little. Droplets of hot water were slowly vanishing from his ink-stained skin and Jace could swear that a few things on his body were freezing.

Yet, he made his way over to the fire pit, seeing Evie lighting a cigarette. He had known her for long enough to see that she was not herself and upset was only the beginning. Considering Caleb stormed out, it was safe to say that he was responsible for this state of his favorite brunette. Jace was never good with his words, he rarely knew what to say but it never made him awkward. Since the boy knew what he lacked, he never attempted to utter empty phrases or tried to be intentionally funny when he understood that it would not help anyone. “Come here…” he uttered and pulled Evie closer, wrapping his strong arms around her slender body. He noticed the tears hovering in her eyes, not running down her tears just yet, and felt an icy fist grip his heart over seeing that picture. “Wanna tell me what happened, Eve?” he asked quietly, rubbing her back up and down. “Did he hurt you?” Jace added as to count women Jace would literally fight for, fingers of one hand would be enough. And Evie was definitely one of them.

Cameron Hale

Cam had never felt such conflicting emotions before. On the one hand, Jace was all she'd ever wanted. Even back in high school, she'd known that she wanted the hulk of a man. Not only was he just the most attractive thing in her eyes, but he was smart. He was funny, he was sweet, and he could wrap those protective arms around her and she'd feel so safe. And she had, actually, always felt safe around him. She knew he wasn't someone her parents would approve of, but she didn't care. So what if was from the 'wrong side of the tracks'? So what if he wasn't up to par with what her parents expected him to be? None of that mattered to Cameron, because Jace was Jace, and she loved him. He never tried to be anyone he wasn't to impress her, and that meant the world to Cameron.

On the other hand, even as she felt his hard torso under her curled fingers, all she could remember was how hurt she was that night. “The night I lost you…” He'd corrected her, and for some reason, that caused her to dip her head in shame and embarrassment. Hot tears, hotter than the hot tub water, pricked at her eyes but she squeezed her eyes shut tighter in an effort to prevent them from spilling out. All this time, she'd only looked at that night as the night that he'd chosen Evie over her. She'd felt like she wasn't good enough, and honestly, that had led to alot of her choices from that night on.

Thinking that Jace had decided he didn't want her, she'd chosen to go away to college after all. She'd chosen to leave him and the rest of her friends behind, to cut contact with them. Even her cousin. Not that she and Wes had ever been best friends, but she'd been to lost in her own emotions and feelings that she hadn't even contacted her family. Unable to fully devote herself to school, her grades had dropped and then so had she. Losing the support of her parents had been a huge blow; even though she didn't consider herself one of those prissy princesses who depended on her parents for everything, it was true to a degree. She'd had to quickly learn how to take care of herself.

And that's how the dancing job started. At first it had just been waitressing, wearing the skimpy outfits and serving alcohol to the drunkards in the audience. She was offered a position as a dancer, but she turned it down. Until she saw the amount of money they brought in, and knew that she could either go down that road or backtrack and return to her parents. The latter was not an option, so she'd started dancing. Onstage at first, but she quickly rose in popularity, and private dances were requested of her. They paid even more. And then one of the girls approached her about going beyond that, and already wrapped up in the sinful world, she agreed. Cameron wasn't proud of it, but it's the road she'd chosen.

Was that all because she was hurt by Jace? It wasn't really fair to put all of that on him, so no, it wasn't. Cam wanted to open up to the tattooed male, to spill everything even when he'd asked her how she'd really been. But the words got stuck in her throat, and he'd taken the chance to start kissing her here, there, making her feel like the queen of the night. “The night I lost you…” The words repeated in her head over and over again like a mantra, but he lifted her head with those kisses, Cam wanting to give him better access as he kissed his way up her neck to her jaw, to her cheek, to her lips. The fireworks that went off in her entire body rocked her to the core, but they didn't last long as she heard the yelling, and turned her head just in time to see Caleb stalk inside.

As much as she wanted to stay in that hot tub with Jace forever, she knew she couldn't enjoy kissing him while knowing any of her friends were upset. Apologizing to him in the smallest of voices, she slipped out of the tub and followed the brunette inside. Her face flushed slightly when she saw Parker and Ava, but she gave them peace as she followed Caleb into the living room, and then the hallway. She was no Anna, but just like their late friend, Cameron couldn't bear to see any of her friends hurt or angry. At first, Caleb tried to deny anything happened, but he gave in when he saw she wasn't going anywhere. "I fucked up, Cam. Again. And she'll never forgive me."

"I think she will, if you just go talk to her." Cam told him, trying not to be hurt as he scoffed. "We're beyond talking. I fucked it all up, Cam. I even fucked up your time. You're in here talking to me instead of in the hot tub with Jace. We both know that's where you want to be." Cam glanced towards the living room as he spoke, knowing that a few years ago, she might have just let him sit and stew in his anger. But now she recognized that he was hurting, and she slipped her hand into his and started back towards the back door. "Just trust me." She told him when he balked, and he finally gave in.

The trouble started when they stepped back outside, and Cameron realized Jace wasn't in the hot tub anymore. She and Caleb found him at the same time, standing over by the firepit with Evie, his arms around her. Cameron immediately felt sick to her stomach, and she let go of Caleb's hand, her breath catching in her throat. Maybe somewhere inside she recognized that it was just a friendly hug, but the green monster took over, twisting the scene in front of them into something else. "That son of a bitch. Fuck him, Cameron." She heard Caleb say, but even as she turned her head, he was gone. Running towards both of them. "Caleb, wait!" She called after him, but it was too late. He grabbed hold of Jace's shoulder, wrenching him back and away from Evie before his fist went flying, punching the tattooed male square in his jaw.

Caleb Thompson

Had Caleb been a different man, a better man, the night could have gone in a completely different direction. But Caleb had never been good at dealing with his own feelings and emotions, and that was proven yet again as he went off on Evie for no reason. Seeing her again had been awkward at first, same with seeing everyone else when they were at Anna's funeral. He'd shoved his feelings away then, too, but he really thought that the trip out here to the cabin could be different. And when Jace had brought up that this could be a second chance for them, he'd silently hoped so. But he'd been a fool to think that, and even though he saw that now, his pride wouldn't let him take it back.

He could just return to Evie's side, grab her and pull her closer like he'd wanted to do ever since seeing her at the funeral. But he didn't. He couldn't. Stomping inside, completely forgetting that he was naked, he barely spared a glance for the other two in the kitchen. He could sense that his hostility might ruin some happy moment between the two, but at this moment in time, he didn't much care. Snatching his clothes from the couch where they'd been neatly folded, he pulled them on just as he heard Cam's voice from behind him. He tried to brush her off, but she wasn't leaving.

She even followed him into the hall, determined to find out what had happened. He told the blonde that Evie would never forgive him, but she seemed to think he could just go talk to the brunette and things would be hunky-dory. "We're beyond talking. I fucked it all up, Cam. I even fucked up your time. You're in here talking to me instead of in the hot tub with Jace. We both know that's where you want to be." A part of him hoped that she would just go back to the man, who was obviously a better specimen than he was, both physically and otherwise. But then again, he appreciated Cam's commitment to making sure he was okay. Not that he could say that out loud.

To his surprise, she slipped her hand in his and started to tug him back out towards the living room. He knew she was trying to lead him outside again, and though he tried to resist, her soft voice telling him to trust her made him give in. All he could picture was Evie's crestfallen face as he'd snapped at her, but maybe with Cameron's help, he could fix the mess he'd made. He was at lease willing to try, if Evie wanted to hear him out. He wouldn't blame her if she didn't want to, though, but looking over at the tiny blonde next to him gave him a glimmer of hope.

Once they reached the back deck, though, that hope disappeared in the blink of an eye as he saw Jace standing there with his arms wrapped around Evie. Anger replaced that hope, pent up anger that he'd never really released over the years. Anger that he'd squashed down, and was about to come out. "That son of a bitch. Fuck him, Cameron." Without waiting for her to say or do anything, he started towards the duo. Somewhere in his mind he heard Cameron yelling for him to stop, to wait, but her words were lost to the wind as he finally reached the pair.

His eyes were strictly on Jace as he grabbed the other man's shoulder, wrenching him back and away from Evie before he punched the man. He hadn't even known what he was going to do, but now that the first hit had landed, that was all he could focus on. Fists were flying from not just him, but from the other man as well. Caleb felt each one as it connected, but this was a long time coming, at least in his book and he'd be damned if he fell out like a little bitch even if Jace's punches hurt like a son of a bitch. "Fuck you, Christiansen!" Caleb snarled, unaware that the girls could very well hear him.

"You fucking took the one thing I wanted, you dick! You had Cameron, and you STILL had to have Evie, too!" Caleb's voice was strained from the fight and the cold and everything all rolled up into one. "You should have just left her ALONE!" His voice grew as he aimed another punch to Jace's smug face. He didn't see the girls trying to stop them, didn't feel their hands. And when Cameron stepped in between them, his hand was already flying, and landed right on her lip instead of Jace's. Immediately he stopped, looking horrified as Cam flew into Jace. Evie was on the ground; when had that happened? Had he done that, too?

"Fuck, Cameron..." Caleb's face went paler than the snow, his eyes wide as saucers as he looked through swollen eyes at the girls already bleeding and puffy lip. "I didn't mean to..." His eyes slid over to Evie, and he dropped to his knees, crawling to her. Just like before, he was bleeding and broken and bruised, but he had to be close to her. "I'm so sorry." From beside Evie, he looked up at Cameron again, feeling the tears stinging his eyes. Fuck, he was a man, he wasn't supposed to cry! But this wasn't supposed to happen, either. "Evie..." He settled back on his legs, hanging his head as he reached up to run his fingers through his hair. "Fuck..."

Whitney Jeffries

Any doubts Whitney may have had about deciding to cuddle with Wes, were quickly washed away when his signature grin stretched across his face. He agreed about not being that great at foosball either, and seemed pleased as the brunette led the way to the beanbag chair. The amiable nerd had never considered herself to be a bold person, but as the opportunity to finally test the waters with Wes presented itself, she didn't want to repeat her meek ways of the past. She'd missed out on many things growing up because she convinced herself she was perfectly happy not to stray from Ava's shadow, despite there being enough sunlight for both Jeffries sisters. Whit was logical enough to know that there was little use in dwelling over regrets from the past now though, and that the only thing to do was to make sure she didn't have anymore going forward. At least, not when it came to Wes or her other friends here at the cabin.

Summoning a boldness that had escaped her in the past, Whitney made room for Wes to sit on the beanbag chair. The school prince took a seat after grabbing the remote, and despite her new confidence, Whit couldn't help the blush that tinged her cheeks when he put his arm around her shoulders and pulled her close. The flush wasn't from embarrassment or being boy shy though, but rather because it was still hard for her to believe that it was Wes, the amazing young man she'd quietly crushed on from afar for years, who sat beside her. Who wanted to sit beside her.

A soft smile graced Whit's features as she leaned into his side, reflexively resting her head on his shoulder. Though they'd made out in the closet only a few minutes ago, this moment felt just as intimate, though in a completely different way. A silence hung between the two, but it wasn't one that made Whit feel the need to fill it with nervous chatter. Instead, she just let the reality sink in, the combination of Wes's warmth, the comfy chair and the residual tipsiness creating a perfect cocktail of happiness that the nerd didn't want to stir.

So tell me, Whitney. How's law school treating you? What's really been new with you?

Wes's quiet question was innocent, and one that on any other day would have elicited a simple response. However, today, that was not the case, and Whitney could feel the peaceful moment being threatened as her buzzed mind tried to formulate a way to answer. What was new with her? Well, a lot actually. One phone call this morning and a couple of ultimatums was all it had taken to set fire to her life back at Yale.

Twenty four hours ago, Whitney had been someone's girlfriend, and now, with her breakup only hours old, she already found herself in the arms of another man. Though Wes wasn't just any man. He was the man she'd had feelings for long before Sebastian. The nerd's determination since that morning to not let the end of her relationship, and likely her internship, ruin the trip had been successful. Perhaps even too successful thanks to the booze she'd consumed since hopping in the van. And now... she had to confront what she'd tried to ignore, when all she wanted to do was enjoy being with Wes.

"Um, law school is going well..." Whitney replied equally as quiet, glancing down as she began to answer the easier of the questions. She picked at a loose thread on her sweater, her mind racing as it weighed the pros and cons of being honest. "I definitely fit in way better at Yale than I ever did in high school. Believe it or not, I'm actually not even considered a nerd there." She continued, attempting a joke as she turned her head to look up at Wes. He'd always been easy to talk to, despite her awkwardness as a teen, and even now she couldn't help but let everything spill out. "I really do enjoy law, but I'm not sure what area I actually want to work in. My parents keep pushing corporate, surprise surprise, but I don't think I want to sell my sou-..." Whitney stopped herself mid sentence, remembering that Wes worked in the corporate world and not wanting to insult him. "I just don't think it suits me." Whit finished diplomatically.

The brunette shifted her position, pulling her legs up onto the beanbag chair and tucking them beneath her as she turned to look at Wes fully. "Not that it really matters what I want to do anyways, because I might have just fucked up my career before it's even started." Whitney admitted, unable to lie to Wes. "I had this great internship with a prestigious firm that would have paved the way for me to work in almost any sector I wanted, but a big case came up this morning and he needed me back right away, and I..."

The law student realized she was getting into dangerous waters, and had to slow down before she ruined everything. "Well, I think I pretty much think I cost myself my internship by coming on this trip." She sighed, her brows furrowing as she tried to come to terms with that. "Do you think that was stupid?" She asked Wes, finally giving him a chance to speak after basically venting to the poor man. "Does that already make me a bad lawyer? You don't have to sugar coat it."

In retrospect, Whitney wished she'd been the one to break the silence and ask how Wes had been and what he was up to these days. She had a million questions for him that their text conversations never answered, and yet when she had the opportunity, she decided to just enjoy the silence. And now... now she was on a one way road to derailing the best thing that had happened to her in a long time. Oof. This was definitely a better conversation to be had sober.

Parker Pierce

If there was any doubt that Parker was going to hell, his actions now would surely seal his fate. If hell existed, that was. Either way, he would not be joining Anna wherever she was in the afterlife at least, that much was for certain. Not only did he not check in on Caleb despite him being visibly upset, or offer to help Cameron find a towel to dry off in her dripping state, but he was in love with a married woman... and tired of hiding it.

Parker had tried to voice how he felt about Ava, and maybe that was the less sinful option, but it was also the most difficult one. He'd spent years hiding how he felt about the beautiful brunette before him, so it was hard to suddenly break that habit and let it all out. Besides, as he was standing there with Ava, despite all the interruptions, he was almost certain she already knew what he was going to say anyways. Her eyes had been pleading for him to utter the words they both wanted to hear. It was one thing to tell her how he felt... She wouldn't necessarily be in trouble for that with her husband. Surely he couldn't get mad at her for how someone else's feelings... Once admitted, Ava could then decide of her own volition whether she wanted to return Parker's affections or remain faithful to the man she'd made a vow to.

But it was another thing entirely to show Ava how he felt. As Parker gave in to his desire to know what it would feel like to kiss Ava Jeffries, he crossed a line that he'd promised himself he wouldn't. He was skipping the part where Ava got to choose whether to cheat or not, and forcing that decision upon her... And yet, if he was going to hell for kissing the woman he loved, then why did it feel so much like heaven? Sure, Wes and Whitney had technically gotten the "7 minutes in heaven" dare, but Parker didn't need a closet to reach Nirvana.

As Parker's lips crashed into Ava's, he heard a small squeal come from her, and for a moment he thought he'd made a mistake. However, she didn't pull away, and Parker was already in too far gone to show restraint now. Instead, he only deepened the kiss, pulling Ava closer to him, pressing her against him as he tasted her rum and chocolate flavored mouth. The brunette relaxed into the kiss, her hand coming to rest on his neck as she sighed contently. Parker's fears of this being a mistake were drowned in his desire for the petite woman in his arms who was returning his kisses with just as much fervor. His free hand cupped her cheek, keeping her lips against his for as long as their lungs would allow them. He could smell the intoxicating scent of her perfume mixed with tequila, the smell burned into his brain as he soaked in the euphoric moment.

Eventually Ava was the one to pull away, though not by much, panting a little as she told him, I don’t think I like that. Parker’s eyes opened upon hearing Ava’s words, the briefest flicker of concern etching his features before he saw that spark in her eyes. “Somehow I don’t believe that,” He uttered, his voice low and breathy. The Clown’s exposed chest rose and fell as he tried in to calm the pounding in his ears of his racing heart. You taste like that shitty chocolate. Parker couldn’t help but chuckle a little, his grip around Ava’s waist tightening a little as he gave her a playful squeeze. “And who’s fault is that?” He asked, tempted not to let Ava finish talking so he could kiss her again. Luckily Ava’s next words satisfied that temptation. Maybe I should try again.

The brunette giggled, her lips finding Parker’s once more as she dove into another kiss. This one was bolder and hungrier than that first exploratory one, and Ava’s hands found their way into his mess of hair as her tongue traced his lip. Parker’s spine was tingling, and despite how amazing everything Ava did felt, he still wanted more. His hands moved to her hips, gripping them firmly as his mouth moved from hers to kiss along her jaw until he reached the tender skin of her neck that peaked out above her turtleneck. His kisses may have continued, but the muted sounds of a scuttle outside warned that their moment might soon be interrupted, again.

Parker’s lips moved away from Ava’s skin and he stood back up to his full height. Looking down at her he moved some hair out of her face. “Ava... I’ve been crazy about you for forever, and I don’t care who knows...” He whispered, leaning his head back down to press it against hers. “But if you don’t want to others to know, we may need to move.”

nine lives

The bitter smoke filling her lungs didn't seem to alleviate the tightness in her chest, her anxiety and sadness creeping to the forefront. Tears threatened to prick the corners of her eyes, and Evie forced them back as best she could. She had kept walls up for a long time, refused to let the world see her cry because she didn't want the same looks of pity she got when her parents died. They made her feel small, and that wasn't something the brunette enjoyed. Inhaling again from the cigarette, Evelyn realized she should probably gather the broken glass. But before she could, she heard a deep voice say, "Come here." Jace pulled her into a hug, giving the brunette just enough time to toss the burned cigarette butt into the fire pit before wrapping her arms around him as well.

Jace had been a stable component of her life. Ever since their first encounter, they had been friends, a bond that had grown stronger over the years since high school and the arrival of Riley. Everything had always been strictly platonic between them, never seeing one another as anything more than a sibling. His strong arms made her feel safe and comforted, and Evie sighed a bit into his chest. "No, Jace, he didn't hurt me. No need to punch him or anything," she muttered teasingly, unknowingly foreshadowing the next few moments. "I fucked up. I made the mistake of bringing up the past and what happened between us. But, damn, I just think I deserve some sort of explanation, you know? An apology maybe? I don't even know what I'm expecting. Maybe that's part of the problem."

Things began to move far too fast for Evelyn's liking. Almost as soon as she had confided in Jace, she heard someone shouting from the patio. The brunette took a step back from her tattooed counterpart in search of the source. Jace had stepped back as well, or been pulled back rather. Before she had a chance to react, Caleb slammed his fist into Jace, and all hell broke loose. "What the hell, Caleb! Stop!" she heard herself shouting, but it got lost to the wind. It took a moment to register what he was saying, why he was angry, and all it did was confused Evie more. If he wanted her, then why did he leave?

The brunette baker realized what was happening and stepped forward to attempt to hold back Jace. But he seemed to instinctively move, knocking her off balance to the ground below. Thankfully, Evie caught more of her weight on her opposite side. But the palm of her right hand was pressed just enough into the broken glass to break the skin and draw a bit of blood. "Son of a bitch," she cursed, clutching her first and pulling it to her chest. And then time stood still. Caleb had accidentally hit Cameron, and everything seemed to stop. He dropped to the ground alongside her, looking almost as he did that night all those years ago, Evie felt her heart clench in her chest and she let out a sigh.

With her uninjured hand, Evelyn pulled herself and subsequently Caleb to their feet. She looked between Jace and Cameron, eyeing their injuries. "I'll take care of him," she said softly, gesturing to the brunette man she had an arm around. "You all take care of each other, alright?" With that, she led Caleb and herself into the house, making their way into one of the bathrooms on the ground floor. Forcing him to sit on the closed toilet seat, Evie rooted around for a first aid kit. Finally finding one, she wrapped some gauze around her hand before sitting on the edge of the tub alongside Caleb. A tense silence hung in the air as she began to clean his wounds. There was a bit of anger coursing through her veins, but also sadness and concern too. Holding a cotton ball with some rubbing alcohol to a cut on his face, Evie simply said, "This may sting a little."

The art of business was a series of loaded questions. To succeed in an industry built on competition, one must be able to figure out their counterpart's weaknesses, often in an attempt to use them against them. Wesley had spent a large portion of his career pulling out the slights and flaws in other companies and hierarchies, built his career of using those to his advantage by creating better deals, luring clients over to his side, and maintaining them with his charisma. In a way, it was one of the things he didn't really like about himself, because he felt that it made him seem more like his father. The elder Frost was a much more brutal man, knowing exactly what he wanted and taking it without regard to the others who might be affected. Wes, however, couldn't see things that way or didn't want to at least. He wanted to be good, and help, rather than destroy.

In a way, his question to Whitney was a bit interrogative. But different than all those loaded questions he asked other business, he was actually interested in knowing what she had been up to, feeling as though over their short texts in the past couple of years he hadn't really heard much. From what he could tell, she seemed happy. But seeming happy and being happy were often two very different things, he was a testament to that. As an example, his phone was probably vibrating violently somewhere in his bag downstairs, a series of texts and emails and missed calls filling the screen from his team members and underlings. Wes had made it very clear that this was a personal trip, that he shouldn't be contacted unless it was absolutely an emergency. But, broken pencils were enough of an emergency to call him, it would seem.

Nevertheless, Wes had vowed that, at least for the night, he wouldn't check his phone. He needed to catch up with his old friends, especially the pretty brunette that was cuddled up alongside him. She rested her head on his shoulder, causing an absentminded grin to spread on his face. She seemed to ponder his question for a moment, turning it over in her head in a very Whitney-esque fashion. The brunette man couldn't help but find the way she picked at her sweater absolutely adorable. "You say nerd like it's a bad thing," he responded with a smile, meeting her gaze evenly. However, that smile faltered slightly at the stopped mention of selling her soul to the corporate world. It wasn't hard to finish the sentence she had cut off, and Wes nodded, knowing exactly what she meant. If he was being honest, he didn't much think the corporate world suited himself either.

Whitney shifted then, turning to face him. Maybe it was the alcohol still clouding their minds a bit, or maybe they were finally comfortable enough with one another to reveal honest feelings. Whatever it was, she began to talk about her current situation. Wesley felt himself move slightly so that he was facing her as well, intently listening to her story. "Stupid?" Wes questioned, a bit surprised. "Absolutely not. You chose to be with the people you cared about in celebration of a lost friend. I think, if anything, that's noble, and most certainly not stupid." As much as Wes was a coherent drunk, he was also a less inhibited drunk, including in his words. "You're not a bad lawyer at all. You're just a person who has their priorities straight. At least you didn't bring work here as I did. What does that make me? I'm thinking a bad friend." Yep, definitely less inhibited.

Parker ( Desert_Blossom Desert_Blossom )

It started so innocently. A boy moved to the town, a new boy appeared at school and the very same new boy also joined the group around a certain brunette, Anna. She always had that power to bring the souls together ad the group around her featured so many different individuals it was almost amazing. A group that would never work together, people so different that it was hardly believable they could ever come to an agreement, surrounded the girl and they were best of friends.

When Parker first came to school, Ava was immediately intrigued. Granted, at first, it was a selfish motivation of checking out a new boy and having something no other girls at school had. A smile here, a touch there, a few random meetings, several conversations, Ava was doing everything right to make sure she would end up with a hot date. Especially when Parker joined the hockey team, it only made him that much appealing to the dark-haired IT girl. Yet at that point, Ava felt that maybe her selfish motive was premature as her little heart started to beat a bit faster and flutter every time the Class Clown talked to her.

She remembered the day of that game until this very day. They were still kids back then. Freshmen. All of them. But no one could ever blame Ava for not knowing what she wanted since early age. Her parents were to credit for that. The girl rarely went to see the hockey games and f you asked her now, she would not be able to say why she went that one time. But the school team struggled, they were having real difficulties to score and barely got to the final shootout. Ava kept her school spirit up and even more so when she noticed a familiar face behind the helmet of a player who was about to attack the net and her eyes lit up. She cheered louder, hoped and prayed and even screamed when Parker actually scored, winning the match for the school.

That evening they all celebrated. There was a party at somebody’s home, they had the greatest of times and Ava knew she wanted to speak up. But not at the party, she wanted that perfect moment. The excuse for her to wait and not risk possible rejection. Well, who would ever think of Ava Jeffries as a coward? As it would happen, the moment came. But not the one she was waiting for. Her parents and the Frosts crossed her path when she found herself sitting in their living room with Wesley Frost by her side, wearing the same clueless face expression. It was the day they found out they were “destined” to be together and expected to keep the appearances up. Oh, Ava fought. She fought loud and hard once alone with her parents, she threw quite a number of fits and tantrums. But nothing helped.

It surely seemed like her and Parker were simply…not written in the stars.

How the tables have turned though. Now it was the very same girl standing in a tight embrace with the boy she had always wanted, the one her heart was screaming for, the one she thought she had already forgotten. But one look at him back at the church and she knew that was not the case. Parker Pierce was her greatest crush, a man she knew she was supposed to end up with, her ultimate endgame. And in her intoxicated state, it was the first time Ava actually admitted.

Parker’s lips burned, they were searing themselves into Ava’s and the brunette knew that no kiss would ever be the same. Even through her thick woolen turtleneck she felt warmth radiating from Parker’s bare upper body and her spine tingled with excitement as they were finally sealing that deal from all those years ago. One that was way overdue. At that very moment, a war could break out and Ava wouldn’t care as her world was right there with her in the kitchen, wrapped in a blanket, tasting as the worst hot chocolate ever,

When she pulled away with her little joke, breathless and rosy-cheeked, Ava dropped her shitty chocolate comment and they both laughed quietly. “And who’s fault is that?” Parker asked her and Ava nodded. “Yeah, okay, I admit…I failed there.” she grinned but then went right back into kissing him, saying that maybe she should try again.

The kiss was even better than the first one. His hands gripped her hips in that delicious way and the time seemed to stop, surroundings dissolved into a haze and for Ava, there were just the two of them finally doing what they should have done all those years ago. Feeling Parker’s lips leave hers, the girl whimpered as she was not ready for it just yet but he made it up to her with leaving the trail of kisses down her jawline and neck, making Ava even hotter. Her more than tipsy mind was already considering the next step when Parker stopped and pulled away. The sounds of mayhem from the outside were lost on her, she only saw him. And only heard the words he uttered. “Ava... I’ve been crazy about you for forever, and I don’t care who knows...” Ava shivered over those words and nodded a little when he said they should move. She was truly not ready for the others to see her, a married woman, cheating on her husband, no matter how out of hand her marriage had gotten.

“Come on then.” she smiled playfully, hearing the grunting from outside for the first time now. A shadow ran over her face and a thought occurred to her that maybe they should go and see what they others were up to but once again, her selfish self won when her fingers got laced with Parker’s. “Hold your blanket.” she grinned and tugged onto him, walking backwards, as she led him towards the rooms. Not knowing about where all the others were, she peeked in the one her suitcase was set in and seeing it empty, the brunette pulled Parker inside, stumbling on her way in, only grabbing the door knob stopped her from falling on her face. “Shit…” she mumbled but managed to regain her balance only to run straight into her suitcase. “I swear to god…” Ava shook her head, turning to Parker. Her fingers hooked in that blanket around his waist as she pulled him closer, looking in those blue eyes of his. “I should have told you all those years ago.” Her words were a tiny bit slurred but her mind set on spilling the tea now. “I’ve always wanted you. As you said. Forever. I just…I should have been…I shouldn’t have waited because I knew. I knew ever since that hockey game. The one you won for the team…”

Cam, Caleb ( apolla apolla ); Evie ( MadiRaiCat MadiRaiCat )

Jace Christiansen was not known for having a lot of girl friends. At least not the kinds like Evie because girls around him usually saw a night filled with fun in the sheets and considering their shallow natures, Jace himself was not interested in more than getting some form, any form, of carnal pleasure from them. And he was also not very much keen on trying to befriend them only to listen to all that boy drama they were going through. And if that made him shallow, oh well, he could live with that.

Things were different with Evie because while they met in Anna’s group and actually ended up in bed together, the brunette baker was not one of those empty shells of girls Jace usually met. She was gorgeous, beautiful for real but also smart as a whip, skilled in what she did and so many other things, she led her small business on her own and earned Jace’s respect in more ways than one. If someone mentioned a strong woman, Jace always imagined Evie’s face because she was the embodiment of it, one of the strongest people he had ever encountered.

Hence, seeing her upset was making his blood boil and he had to walk over. The ground was cold and made him miss the hot bubbles immediately, his clothes and shoes were still inside and Jace cursed the bloody idea of streaking in the snow but he clenched his teeth, ignoring the frosty weather biting his skin especially where the hot droplets of water covered his inked skin and approached Evie, pulling her in a hug. He needed to know if his sister from another mister was alright and whether Caleb deserved a punch or ten. Hearing her mutter about no need to punch him, Jace frowned a little but a smile still formed on his lips. “Why do you assume I want to punch him?” he asked, returning her teasing tone. She knew him so well. Maybe not even his own mother knew him the way Evie did. She could read him perfectly, whether he was down or over the moon, Evie could always see it in his eyes. No words needed.

Jace was still not absolutely sober from the amount of whiskey he had drunk on an empty stomach but he was fine enough to understand Evie was hurting and there was probably nothing he could do about it. This trip was supposed to bring them all closer again, make them a group. And this was their first night. Evie and Caleb fighting and Cam running after Caleb. Perfect. Just as Jace always imagined. Oof. He at least hooped that the other half of the group was having a better evening but considering that Ava and Parker left inside quite a while ago and never came back and that nobody saw Whitney and Wes ever since they disappeared in the closet, the tattooed man would assume they found their own entertainment.

“Let’s just try again then, hm? Wanna go find him and try to…?” There was no time to finish as Jace felt a hand on his bare shoulder pulling him away from Evie and before he knew it, a punch landed on his face, making him see sparkles. Jace had no idea what was happening and why Caleb was fucking beating the shit out of him but there was no way he was going to stand there like a tool and his fists came up as well, returning every favor Caleb offered. “What the fuck, dude? What’s gotten into you?” he asked, trying to hold Caleb away at first but seeing it was not an option, he punched back properly, turning Caleb’s face into a canvas just like all those years ago. "You fucking took the one thing I wanted, you dick! You had Cameron, and you STILL had to have Evie, too! You should have just left her ALONE!" Caleb basically screamed, his voice filled with anger, hurt and shivers. “Then you should have stayed! Why the fuck did you leave, you prick?” Jace bellowed back, internally happy they were away from all civilization at this point.

At some point during the whole fight, Jace felt something grab his arm and he just moved it, tearing it from the grip. Only too late did he realize it was Evie and his move sent her to the ground but Caleb still kept him very much occupied. Until the moment a little blond figure got in the middle and suddenly was slammed against him.

All fighting ceased and silence fell on all four people outside. Jace looked at Caleb whose face was now almost transparent. His hands automatically flew up, wrapping Cameron in a protective shell of his body and spoke in quiet but very much venomous voice. “Why don’t you do us all a favor and leave again? I heard that’s what you do best when shit gets hard.”

Looking down at Cam, he took her chin gently between the thumb and index finger of his right hand, inspecting her swollen lip. Meanwhile, the other couple got back to their feet again and Evie said she was going to take care of the two of them. Jace’s mind was screaming not to let her go away with Caleb but he also wanted to make sure Cam was alright. Knowing that Evie was a girl who could handle herself, Jace let it go and sighed. “Come. We both could use some ice now.” Sighing softly, his hand landed on the small of her back and he led the petite blonde inside straight to the kitchen. Motioning for her to sit, the man walked over to the freezer and filled a kitchen towel with a few ice cubes, handing it to Cam. There was a mug filled with hot chocolate set there, apparently unfinished. Jace looked in it, the pale color of the beverage told him it was the powder thingie and the smell of rum coming from the mug made him wrinkle his nose. “What the fuck is this?” he mumbled, moving the muck aside before he looked at Cam again. “Cammie, why did you get in the middle?” he asked in a soft voice, taking that ice-filled towel from her, pressing it to her lip gently. “You could have gotten hurt so bad.”

If something happened to her during that pointless fight, Jace would never forgive himself. Seeing the girl he loved getting hurt because he and Caleb couldn’t hold their punches was painful and Jace felt like the worst human being ever. And he also hurt Evie. Sure, he had no idea she also cut her hand but the fact that she fell because of him was enough. And Cameron sitting here with her lip busted was making Jace want to punch himself. Moving a strand of hair away from her face, he looked at her, feeling his left eye throb and buzz. “I did mean what I said back in the tub you know. All of it…” he half-whispered, unsure what else to say to a girl who just got punched instead of him. “Why did you run away from me though? Am I…Is it too late for us?” he asked, trying to change the topic, feeling he was getting quite overwhelmed by his own emotions.
