Backstory:
Evelyn Ryder was born in Philadelphia, PA to two very loving parents. Her father, George, was a literature professor at the local university, and her mother, Sadie, owned a small cafe across from campus that had been passed down to her from her parents. They had met while George was working on his degree, having popped into the cafe one morning to get a coffee and cinnamon roll before class. He had grown tired of the burnt black coffee the literature department offered for free in their lounge, and wanted a change of scenery. Sadie was at the counter, working part-time to help pay her way through her own business degree. For George, it was love at first sight. But Sadie needed a little more convincing.

After that day, George went to the cafe every morning, both to get his daily coffee and cinnamon roll, and to see Sadie. She eventually gave way to his charms and agreed to go on a date with him. As the old saying goes, and the rest was history. They married a year into George's first professorship, just after Sadie graduated with her own degree. When her parents passed away, Sadie took over running the cafe with the family recipes, including George's favorite, the cinnamon rolls. Within a few years, the couple was blessed with a child, whom they named Evelyn after Sadie's mother.

Evelyn's childhood was one like those sitcom TV shows. They had a two-story Tudor house with a white picket fence and a two-car garage. Just after her fifth birthday, her parents got her a golden retriever she promptly named Sherlock after the novels her father read to her. Though the Ryders talked about having another child, Sadie was sure that she "could never love another child as much as she loved Evie." Their little family of three was seemingly perfect. But as usual, bad things always seem to happen to good people.

On a rainy night, the family was driving home after finishing dinner at their favorite local diner. Evelyn realized that she had left her cell phone and insisted that her father turn the car around to go back and look for it, to which he grumpily agreed with a fatherly, "Make sure you have all your things before we leave next time." As they drove through an intersection, a drunken man swerved, lost control of his car on the wet pavement and sped headfirst into the Ryders' sedan.

When she awoke in the hospital a few days later, all Evelyn could remember was the bright headlights of the car approaching theirs, and then everything went black. While she made it out with a few scratches and a concussion, her parents were not so lucky. And so, over the course of a few weeks, the 17-year-old planned and attended a joint funeral, sold her childhood home and mother's cafe, and moved across the country to live with her only relative, her father's sister, Belinda, in Montana.

Evelyn began her senior year at the local high school knowing no one and having no friends. Still grieving from the death of her parents, she kept to herself. That is, until Anna. Anna was the first and only person for a long time to really care about the new girl. She introduced herself and kept at it until eventually Evie broke down and opened up to her. Anna was the only person she had ever told about her parents and why she randomly started at a new school her senior year. Anna kept her sane, grounded her. She introduced her to her friends and included her in their groups. She made Evelyn feel like she belonged.

After graduation, Evelyn gained access to the trust fund her parents had set up for her along with their estates. Overnight, she had enough money to never have to work again if she didn't want to. Unsure of what to do after high school, Evie got her own place, worked, and took classes online, eventually opening her own bakery in town named Sadie's Sweets after her mother. It was small, only employing her and one other person. But it quickly became a town favorite. And so, when the others moved away or started their own lives, Evelyn stayed.

Anna's death turned her world upside down for the second time. While they knew it was coming, she still wasn't fully prepared. Evelyn and Anna stayed in contact with one another after graduation, making sure to check in and keep up with the other's life. So, with the loss of her best friend and her parents, Evie began to feel like she was losing herself as well. She decided to go on the trip not only to honor her friend but to try and regain some balance in her life.

  Ava Novak, or Jeffries as her friends knew her before, always wanted it all. Coming from a wealthy family of an attorney father and mother, her path was more or less predetermined. Not that she ever complained. From an early age, Ava was led to strive for the best and her parents brought her and her younger sister up as being the elite. No wonder, she became known as the high school IT girl, the resident princess. Her reputation usually preceded her. And being the older child, no wonder she could considered herself a leader.
  
  Starting high school, Ava already knew what she wanted from her life and where she wanted to end up. Her room was decorated with moodboards and photoshopped posters of her to help her visualize the success that was definitely supposed to come. But being who she was, there were not many real friends she had. Of course, there was her small entourage of girls just like her, from good families, ambitious, rich and simply mean as fuck. And then there were her other friends.
  
  Until this day, Ava will say that the small group around Anna was the best thing that ever happened to her. Sure, back in the day, she was basically trying to cover up she was meeting up with them at first, only in her senior year, she really became open about it. But by that time, her school status was so high that no one would even dare to degrade her for not hanging out only with rich popular kids.
  
  Ava was actually living the time of her life in her senior year. She had her friends who supported her no matter what, the conversations were actually meaningful and no matter how different they were, they always came back together. But no one really realize why and who held them together. It was no wonder that when Ava started to campaign for the prom queen, she got the crown later. And then there was the graduation day.   Yale was everything she dreamed it to be. And oh so more. In her junior year, she met Benjamin Novak, the love of her life. Or so she thought. Right after graduating Yale, the two got married. He was a business major and his family secured him and Ava a nice job in their family company. But after a month or two of marriage, Ava found out Ben was not who she thought he was. The pressure for an heir became immense and he was nervous and angry a lot, venting on his young wife. He knew exactly how to hit her so no one would notice. And when they found out that Ava would never be able to give him not a son, but any kid, the abuse got even worse. Ben started to drink a lot and his hand was becoming heavier and heavier. Ava’s life went downhill real fast, she spent days covering her face with layers of makeup. Because later on, Ben didn’t care which part of her body he hit. He simply needed his vent.   Whitney was a kindhearted, but shy girl in high school. If it wasn’t for her outgoing sister and Anna, Whitney likely wouldn’t have had nearly as many friends, and definitely wouldn’t have been part of the same close knit group of besties. Although she was labeled a nerd and often teased for being brainy, she didn’t try to cover up her intelligence. While Ava seemed to have everything, Whitney at least had her smarts, and she made that “her thing”. Sometimes she could come off as a know it all, but she made up for that by helping her friends with their school work and studying.
  
  Whitney was most confident and spirited when working on school projects or after learning something she thought was really cool. Though it was hard for Whitney to stand up for herself, she didn’t tolerate bullies hurting others and could be brave when in the service of others. She kept her feelings very close to her heart, not even telling Eva about any of the crushes she may have had. When feeling especially insecure, Whitney had a habit of rubbing away from the situation.
  
  Next to her sister, Whitney felt a little invisible and secondary, so she remained a wallflower rather than competing for any of the limelight. It was easier to be Ava’s sidekick, and she convinced herself didn’t mind it. Although academically ahead, Whitney was a year or more younger than all her classmates, so she was emotionally behind in maturity. This led to her being especially awkward. When Ava was kissing boys, Whitney was still giggling at the thought.
  
  While always neat and well groomed, looks were not high on Whitney’s priority list, and she hardly ever wore makeup. Her fashion sense was almost nonexistent and she preferred to be practical over stylish.   That said, around her loved ones and those she is comfortable with, Whitney is still her quirky self. Learning new things still excites her, and she continues to stand up for those who are bullied. Despite being very intelligent, she can still be very naive though.

  Whitney was the second born daughter of two very driven and elite parents. As such, she and her older sister Ava were always held to a very high standard and were expected to be the best. When Whitney was in the first grade, she started acting out in class out of boredom, easily finishing all her lessons before the other kids. To cure her unruly behavior before it became a problem and habit, her parents insisted that the school move her ahead a grade to challenge their precocious daughter. And so, after only a couple weeks of first grade, Whitney skipped ahead to second grade to be in the same class as Ava. Ever since, the two sisters have gone through their schooling together.   Lacking the maturity and confidence to compete with Ava in popularity, Whitney focused on her studies.   When Ava started dating the class prince, Whitney did her best to give her sister space and privacy. However, when Ava’s boyfriend needed tutoring, it was Whitney who spent hours with him trying to make sure he passed his classes. Whitney formed a friendship with the prince, but he was her sister’s boyfriend, so she never considered pursuing anything more.   After graduating from high school as Valedictorian, Whitney moved away to get her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Yale. Ava and her parents were Yale alums, so the sisters had little choice in the matter of school. But luckily both girls loved Yale anyways.
  
  Unlike in high school where Whitney felt like a fish out of water and was teased for being a nerd, she excelled at university. Yale was filled with bright students that made Whitney feel comparatively normal. While she still was top of her class, earning a 4.0, this wasn’t seen as something to be teased about now.
  
  Socially, Whitney’s friend circle was small after moving away from her high school pals. Not wanting to use Ava as her social butterfly crutch, Whitney found it hard to open up to others and put herself out there to meet new people. She initially tried to stay in contact with the others from high school, but by junior year of college, had all but stopped talking to everyone (minus her sister) save for on birthdays or holidays. Luckily, social media allowed for Whitney to generally see what was happening in the lives of her old best friends.
  
  After receiving her Bachelor’s degree, Whitney began pursuing a law degree at Yale, and has completed one year so far. In law school, Whitney caught the eye of a teacher’s aid, Sebastian Hartwright, and he pursued her romantically until she agreed to go on a date with him. Only after beginning to date Sebastian did Whitney realize that she wasn’t the awkward teenager she once had been, and had bloomed into a beautiful young woman. This helped Whitney’s confidence exponentially, and she has begun to grow into herself more now.
  
  In addition to going to school, Whitney also works as an intern at a prominent law firm, thanks to Sebastian getting her a job at his father’s company. Whitney isn’t in love with Sebastian, but he is successful and gives her the attention that she never got in high school. Besides, even if she wanted to break things off with him, it would come at the cost of her job, which was a great opportunity for a sophomore law student. As a woman, Whitney is already at a disadvantage in the law world, so she is determined to do whatever it takes to work her way up the ladder of success.
  
  The news of Anna’s death came as a shock to Whitney, and she was devastated. It wasn’t easy for Whitney to get the time off so she could attend Anna’s funeral and the arranged mountain trip, but she did what she had to to make it happen. Still prone to tears every time she thinks about Anna, there is also a part of Whitney that looks forward to seeing her old friends.   Backstory:
  
  Cameron is the only child of Richard and Tessa Hale. In fact, she was a complete surprise, as her parents had previously been told that they would not be able to have children. After trying and failing to have children for years, they finally got pregnant with Cam, and they were ecstatic. The pregnancy was a rough one, but Tessa made it through with Richard's help. Richard worked long hours as a CEO of the company that had belonged to his father, and Tessa was a lawyer who worked up until her water broke. They both put so much work into their careers, and it showed.
  
  Although they were ecstatic about having a child, they were far from soft, loving parents. Though they loved Cameron, they loved their careers and being successful more. Having a child was just another notch in the belt of their many successes in life, and they were determined to ensure that Cameron had the same goals in life. They stressed the importance of hitting all the milestones as soon as possible, and getting the best grades and just being first in everything. From a young age, Cameron wanted to impress her parents and make them happy, even if it meant losing some of herself in the process.
  
  The only problem was that Cam didn't realize she was losing herself until it was much, much too late. Being the best was the most important thing in her household, and her parents would not accept anything less than perfection. She wasn't allowed to stay out late, her grades had to be top notch and even her friends were subject to scrutiny by her parents. She only managed to get some leeway in her later high school years, but even then, it wasn't much. But as long as her grades didn't slip, she got more freedom. Still, Cameron was well-known for being the straightedge girl who rarely drank, never got drunk, didn't smoke or do anything like that.
  
  Still, Cameron was grateful for Anna and her group of friends that kept her sane. As she began to realize just how unhappy she was in her late middle school/early high school years, she started self harming. Anna was the first to find out, and she never judged. Sometimes she would just sit there with Cameron when she felt like hurting herself, and Cam loved her for that. After high school, Cameron thought she might actually stick around town, but some truths came to light and she left town anyway, falling out of touch with most of her friends. Now it's been five years, and things have definitely changed. What no one knows is that she never finished college, because her parents cut her off when her grades dropped and she couldn't bring them back up. Backstory:
Wesley was born to Mr. and Mrs. Zachariah Frost, an attorney-model power duo and self-made entrepreneurial millionaires. As the heir to the Frost empire, the Frosts always held Wes to a set of very high standards. Living in a mansion with service personnel for his entire childhood, Wes' parents were rarely around to raise him. Instead, he had a nanny and bodyguards to take care of him, a set of tutors to foster his education, and a personal chef to make sure he stays in shape and eats well.

From a young age, Mr. and Mrs. Frost made sure Wesley learned everything he would need to know to run a large business one day, outside of the normal topics he learned in the public school system. He was taught everything from multiple foreign languages, to finance, to advanced strategic planning. While he had gotten fairly close with his instructors and nanny, he felt incomplete without the care of his own parents. But unfortunately, it was pretty much the only life he knew.

Public school was the one saving grace of his childhood. The Frosts enrolled him there in an attempt to foster his social skills, and surprisingly it worked. Whether it was due to his wealth, his good looks, his charm, or his hockey skills, Wes took over the school. He accelerated in social status rapidly, becoming the king of the school in record time. Everyone either wanted to be him, be his friend, or get with him. Wesley Frost could do no wrong.

Despite having everything he could ever want, he still felt alone. So, Anna was a bright light in the darkness of his life. They were close in that she was the maternal light that he was missing in his life. She was the voice of reason, the person that saw through his grandeur and asked how he truly felt about things. Wesley told Anna things he didn't tell anyone else, not even his long-time girlfriend. She was just easy to talk to and cared enough to listen. So, her death took a toll on him.

Following graduation from high school and his break up, Wesley went off to Harvard to study for his business degree. He graduated near the top of his class, though his parents believed he could do much better and were disappointed when he wasn't valedictorian. Nevertheless, Wes threw himself entirely into his work as the Chief Marketing Officer of Frost Enterprises.   (Trigger alert) Parker’s childhood was almost the exact opposite of his sunny disposition. His parents did not have a happy marriage, and his father was both abusive and an alcoholic. Parker lost count of how many times his mother told him to his under the bed when his dad came home in one of his moods. Other times his mom would put on The Three Stooges to distract Parker and keep him busy so he wouldn’t accidentally piss his dad off. Finally when Parker was in sixth grade, his father packed his bags left him and his mother to fend for themselves. To prevent his dad from coming back, Parker’s mom moved them to a new town where they could start over.
  
  The fresh start was good for Parker and his mom, and it helped to heal the emotional and physical wounds left by his father. Parker soon had a stepfather who treated him like his own son, and the nightmare of his childhood was just a memory that Parker buried beneath his class clown ways.

  In high school, Parker was friends with almost everyone. At least surface level friends. His closest friends were the group of students that had been brought together by Anna though. Parker would have done anything for his friends, and often took it upon himself to lighten any sour moods with jokes. If Anna was the mom, then he was the goofy brother of the group.
  
  A straight C student, Parker did enough to get by in his classes, but didn’t care enough to try to get higher grades. He went to school to be around his friends- learning was just a bonus. He had a habit of joining clubs on a whim or as a joke, though didn’t keep up with very many of them. By the end of his high school career he had been a part of 25 different clubs, and somehow managed to be in everyone of the club pictures in the yearbook as a prank. The one club that he did stick with though was the school’s Improv group.
  
  It was a bit of a sucker punch when his crush, Ava, started dating his best friend, but Parker tried not to let it get him down. At least he still got to be around Ava and make her laugh. Besides, Parker knew Ava deserved so much better than him anyways. She was practically perfect, and he... was damaged goods hiding begins a few corny jokes.

  After graduating from high school, Parker didn’t go off to college like most of the students did. He had never been particularly set on the idea of going anyways, and his mom and step dad couldn’t afford it. Parker’s grades weren’t good enough for a scholarship and he didn’t want to be loaded down with student debt. So instead, Parker packed his bags and moved out to California to pursue a career in stand up comedy. It was a pipe dream, but Parker was young and following this dream seemed like the best way for him to avoid being a real adult.
  
  Parker has been in Hollywood for the past 5 years, living paycheck to paycheck. He’s managed to get a few good gigs here and there, and his career is just now starting to show promise. To make ends meet, Parker also works as a bartender, which is a slippery slope for him. He’s had a few dark nights of getting blacked out drunk to deal with the pain in his life, but he’s doing his best to stay on the straight and narrow. The last thing he wants is to follow in his father’s footsteps and lose himself to drink.
  
  The news of Anna’s death came just as Parker secured a gig at the Laugh Factory on Sunset Blvd. With her funeral falling on the day of his show, Parker had to bow out. Even if this would ultimately cost him his dream of being a comedian, Parker knew he’d regret missing Anna’s funeral more.   Jace’s story is not one of those unusual bad-boy-gets-lucky ones. He was born to a mom, working in the local diner to earn some money, and a dad, who worked as a mechanic but drank more than actually worked. Jace was the second child in the family and was followed by two more brothers. Apparently, there were some strong genes in the Christiansen family as they brought four boys to this world. Not that they ever had time or resources to do it properly. Mom was really really trying but before she managed to save enough for boys to have decent clothes, her husband took it all away.
  
  Their oldest, River, couldn’t look at the miserable situation and dropped out of high school to make it easier for mom to keep the family going and got a job in the very same service as his dad. The two never really got along and especially after working together because River really worked and his father just slacked and downed one beer can after the other. They fought a lot, at work, at home, with mom, with younger brothers, the whole family was just a huge circus that simply drove young Jace away from it.
  
  To avoid being at home all the time, he found his group of friends at school and they hung out together, skipped classes and they got Jace into his thing for tattoos. He developed this habit where he compensated everything with tattoos. The pain was helping him to forget his anger. Now, his while body is covered in tattoos so you can imagine how that went.
  
  From early childhood, Jace was a hot-headed guy and it often showed at school. He got in fights all the time and couldn’t stop himself. His anger always got the best of him. In his book, life was not fair. And when he fought, he felt free, he felt in control. By the time he was 16, he was already a part of illegal box fights, coming home late at night, hurt and bloody.   By the grace of god, Jace managed to graduate high school and decided that it was not worth it anymore. His house was not a home he wanted so he packed his few belongings and left, leaving his past behind him. Those fights got him some money and Jace was able to live on his own for a while. He found himself a job in a small bar as a bartender and kept in living in the moment, went through women as through pages in the book and just did his own thing.
  
  It was something over a year after high school when the girl appeared. Trisha. One of his endless one night stands. But she was not alone. In her arms, there was a small squirming bundle which she showed into Jace’s arms, yelled at him for being a fucker and disappeared. That was how Jace found out about being a dad. His initial thoughts were to give the little boy up but then it happened, that tiny little hand squeezed his finger, those big trusting eyes opened and the bad boy softened. And Riley became his greatest pleasure, the little treasure, the most important person in Jace’s life. He adjusted his working schedule around him and decided to raise the kid right. After all, he had the greatest example of how not to do it anyway.   Backstory:
  
  Caleb was not given much of a chance from the moment his mother got pregnant with him. The man that got her pregnant was nothing more than a piece of shit, abusive to both his son and the woman who gave birth to him. If Caleb didn't fall in line exactly with what he wanted, he was shut in a closet or his room if he was lucky, and that was after getting beaten. His mother never stood up for him or even herself, because she was terrified of the man. She really thought she loved him, and that she could change him or fix him in some way, shape, or form. Caleb knew from the beginning that that would never happen.
  
  When Caleb was about seven years old, his mother got pregnant again, and a short year later, his baby sister Naomi was born. Caleb loved her immediately, and he swore to protect her from their father to the best of his abilities. He was getting older and bolder, and started talking back to the man. He would hide Naomi when the man was on a rage, distracting him by breaking something or drawing his attention to him somehow. Although Caleb's mother was the same with Naomi, Caleb still loved the woman. He wished she would grow a backbone, but she was still their mom, and life hadn't been fair to her either.
  
  When he was a teenager, he started stealing and selling items for money. Electronics, usually, small things that he could snag and sell for a quick buck. As he got older, that escalated into other things, including cars. He got in with the wrong group of people, but they helped him find odd, usually dangerous jobs for money. This turned into him selling drugs, and even though they say don't get high on your own supply, he started dipping into the stash sometimes when the pressure got to be too much. He tried to be careful, knowing that he still needed to take care of his mom and Naomi.
  
  Anna was one of his closest friends, ever since they were in the same classes in middle school. He kept his secret from her, though, and as far as he knows she never found out. Things got a little crazier in high school, and he ended up getting arrested senior year. He was bailed out by one of his friends, the only one who knew about his secret activities. He begged her not to tell, and after she bailed him out, things just got worse. He was in trouble not only with the law but people around town, and he had to leave. It wasn't what he wanted, but after a big blow up, he disappeared. Fast forward five years when he received the letter from Anna, and his world came to a screeching halt.
