Mood: Tired, Nervous, Curious
Location: School Grounds
Interacting with: Aris ( smolfluffball smolfluffball )
Appearance: In school-uniform
Equipment: His backpack, school supplies, a bento box and a lollipop

He shuffled anxiously as the two stared each other down, expecting them to start fighting. It wouldn't have been the first time people fought just outside the school, unfortunately, he rarely ever saw people fight so it always made him nervous despite the exciting energy of it. Unexpectedly, Aris turned back to him,

"Can you grab that for me?"

For a moment he was absolutely certain that he was asking him to help beat up the girl, maybe this was some sort of slang he'd never heard of or he'd mistranslated some phrase in English- he shook his head frantically. What could he do?! He had the combined strength of a soggy slice of bread, he wasn't even good at fighting games, it just wasn't possible. Aside from that, he didn't want to beat anyone up! Who cared where his morals lie, the coach was right there!! Realizing that he was motioning down, he looked to where he pointed to find the skateboard... Ah. Of course. He would be the cornerman, what was he thinking? He was annoyed to be picking up after him again, but hey, it was better than getting hit.
As he went to lift the skateboard, the older girl across from him began to move forward, fist at ready. He froze, feeling terror grow in his gut.

"Alright you two, settle down. People are trying to get in. Be the bigger person and move along."

The voice of the coach made him jolt and he zipped behind Aris once more. As he listened to the other two get chewed out, he began to calm down and instead shot a look at Aris' back. He should've just left it there. Enveloped in his moodiness, he completely missed most of what Aris had done to piss off the coach, only noticing that he'd placed his beanie on his clipboard. Mistakenly thinking he'd been told to hand it over, he wondered why he mellowed out so quickly,

"Meet me over by that tree and I'll teach you how to ride,"

"You need to take this back and fix your attitu- hey! Pay attention-!"

He hadn't, it seemed. He awkwardly hobbled into the courtyard, trying to stay hidden beside another kid walking in that was taller than him and still carry the skateboard, in no hurry to get yelled at as well. Damn... this thing was not meant to be held. Shifting the board in his arms to try to get a more comfortable hold he glanced around, trying to guess which tree Aris was talking about. It took him a second to spot him standing under it, not only was he hiding, but his hair was nearly the same shade of pink as the leaves. He quickly made his way to him,

"Here... you go." he dropped the skateboard onto the ground with a grunt, there was no reason for it to be as heavy as it was. What had he said before he went in? He was going to teach him how to ride it it... well, he didn't have anything else to do. How hard could it be? Soon he'd be the king of skateboarding, Aris would come to HIM for help.

"How exactly do you... use this?" Once he figured out how to start.

Aris watched Toya come over to him and grinned as he dropped the skateboard onto the ground. Man, he was already making friends, and school hadn’t even started yet! Massive score. He brought the board closer to himself with his foot but froze when Toya actually asked how to ride it. Well, how to use it, but still. Aris hadn’t expected him to actually take him up on the offer. You know, like, since Toya was dressed correctly and had black hair and seemed so prim and proper. Maybe he wasn’t exactly like how he seemed, sitting in front of that FamilyMart all despondent and lonely-like. Maybe he really wasn’t exactly like how he seemed, all prim and proper, because he was still talking with Aris even after the fiasco at the school gate.

Perhaps Aris could actually make a friend on the first day.

His grin turned giddy at the thought, and he nudged the board over to Toya’s legs. He made sure to not kick it too hard, because he didn’t want to ram it into Toya’s shins. “Okay, so,” Aris started, coming closer to Toya. “You use this by standing on it and kicking your other foot against the ground, so that you can move. You have to stand on it by where the wheels are at so that you don’t fall off of it. Not exactly on top of them, but close to them.” He crouched near his board and pointed to two spots on the deck with his finger. “If you stand on either of these parts-” he spread his hands and tapped the nose and tail “-then it’ll slip out from under you, because it lifts up.” He pressed down on the nose to demonstrate, and the board lifted off the ground. “You don’t want it to slip out from under you. Landing on your butt isn’t a whole lot of fun.”

He moved the skateboard away from Toya slightly, then straightened again and put his foot on it. “You get on them like this. See where my foot is at?” He bounced on his board for a moment, but then turned away from the shorter boy and kicked off. He was gentle with his kick and he made sure to get on his board slowly, so that Toya could see what to do. “Make sure your feet aren’t too far forward or backward. Right in the middle. Keep your balance or else you’ll tilt over and fall off.” He stepped off his board and scooted it back over to Toya, then smiled when it had been successfully delivered to him again. “I’ll hold onto you, if you want me to. So that you don’t fall off. Wouldn’t want to get your uniform dirty, right?”

Kichiro watched the demonstration carefully, Aris seemed to know a lot about skateboarding despite his crash at the gate. It must be like knowing how to do math but failing the test. It was a good thing his grades weren't too shabby, he'd be a skating punk in no time, perhaps he'd even dye his hair. He smirked at his own internal dialogue, dye his hair... no way.
When the skateboard bumped his shoe gently, having been rolled back to him after the explanation, his expression reverted back to his listless gaze. It was time. The only wheels he'd been on before now was a bicycle, perhaps he had fallen off nearly every time he rode it, but that wasn't important. This was the end-game.

“I’ll hold onto you, if you want me to. So that you don’t fall off. Wouldn’t want to get your uniform dirty, right?”

Dirty his uniform? Ha! What kind of child would care about such foolish pursuits like 'following dress code' and 'not wanting to get dirty'. Certainly not him, which is exactly why he lifted his arms up to be held from falling,
"Yeah." he muttered.
He just wanted to feel the breeze, surely, he consoled himself as he waited for Aris to get a grip on him. Once secure, he stepped onto the skateboard and started to shake nervously. It was a lot taller than he expected, not that he was short, but the newfound height was exhilarating.

"Kick my foot against the ground..." he mumbled to himself, and pushed his foot back with just enough force to move the skateboard slightly. As he rolled very, very slowly, he looked back at Aris with a look of immense pride, undeserving of the small feat. He did it! He was still shaking from the lack of stable ground- but he did it!
"Behold, I skate." his eagerness soon caught up to him, as he kicked the ground with much more force- forgetting to balance his other leg and not rest on the raised parts behind the wheels- sending the board flying out from under him. He froze in shock and increasing embarrassment as he realized how ridiculous he must look right now, his face was glowing red by the time the skateboard had finally stopped a ways away from where they stood. What does one even say in this sort of situation, he wanted to implode, he couldn't even look him in the eye.

The school bell has rung at 7:20 AM, signaling the start of classes for the day. Report to Homeroom.

Throughout the school, a message rung out over the PA system,
“It’s everyone’s first day back, well, the teachers have been working on their lesson plans for a week but that’s just nitpicking. It’s Monday, April 10th of 2014. Clubs will be starting up by next week, so check the cafeteria for handouts describing anything you might be interested in. Student Council will be accepting applications for new members all throughout this month. The Alien Party vote will be happening in select classrooms today, if you are chosen you will not be eligible for any other clubs. We would like to stress due to complications last year that you stay off the roof of the school. Stay in the cafeteria or eat in supervised areas outside during lunch. If you receive any threatening letters describing a fight or challenge, do not respond to it and turn it in to a Student Council member wearing a red armband or staff member.
Let’s have a productive school year.”

-Bzzt-

Each classroom has three rows of five chairs, there’s two large windows on the wall facing the outside and the wall parallel to it. On each of the student's desks is an empty slip of paper and a paper taped to the front of their desk that reads their name. A small podium in front of the class stands directly in front of the blackboard on the wall behind it. To the right of the podium, near the door leading to the hallway, is a desk where each teacher has a large clunky laptop with a couple of baubles around it. As the students filed into their classroom, the teacher began to write on the board,

“Bell-work:

Alien Party Vote
Write down the name of one of your classmates who you think would best represent the Alien Party on the sheet of paper provided at your desks. If you are uncertain, please choose at random.”

Once everyone sat down, they all seemed to look unanimously in nervous silence at the words on the board, it was time for one person to have the entire course of their school life- and maybe even life beyond that- transformed. It was in no way a surprise to the majority of kids within the room, but the implication was enough to silence them. They were in no hurry to draw attention to themselves.

“Good morning everyone! Before we get into today’s activities, our classroom was chosen for the Alien Party vote!”
Dead silence.
“Don’t get too excited, now. For anyone who’s new to this school or hasn’t done this before, we hold a vote in select classrooms whenever new members for the Alien Party are needed. The Alien Party itself is a government funded organization meant to recruit individuals to protect civilians from alien attacks and research aliens.” The teacher flipped to the next page on their handout,
“In order to spark interest in the party and have a quicker first line of defense, each school elects their own club of able students to serve the Alien Party for a year. Once chosen for the party, participation is mandatory unless there is a medical reason one must drop out. So,”
They put their papers down on the desk and looked to the students.
“As I take role, I’d like you all to write down the name of one of your classmates who you think would do best in the Alien Party. If you don’t know anyone yet, everyone has their name written on the front of their desk for the first week of school, make an educated guess. Please don’t just choose someone you dislike as they may be the one tasked with saving your life.” When they turned to their laptop, they sighed as the volume in the classroom slowly increased with everyone chatting and gossiping about who to choose. It almost seemed to be set up to target the odd-one-out in every classroom.

“That transfer student… not even in uniform…”

“They also have dyed hair… weird…”

“Probably an otaku, right?”

“I saw him reading in the morning… must be a bore…”

“I swear she nearly punched him!”

One volunteering child who stood at the front of the class was taking paper slips from kids who’d already chosen, they had a red armband on with the words “student council” on it.

The day began with the sound of the bell. All was smooth, until the Alien Party was announced. Their school was chosen? There were other schools that weren't chosen? Well, chances are Asuka would have to deal with it one way or another. Then the election began. Strange for the freshmen to take a vote, considering no one knows anyone at all, but he is not one to complain. He simply chose a random name that wasn't his own.

What's the worst that could happen? Are we being taken to a different school or something? That would be strange though, considering the foreigners are able to be voted for. Well whatever. It's not like things are going to change for me.

The rumors began slowly after, specifically about a bookworm. He tried to flush them out, but he kept hearing them, and people slowly began avoiding him. He didn't know why though.

They finally get the message that some people actually want to work in silence, huh?

Slowly but surely he got more and more nervous about the increase of pointing, whispering, and avoidance. But why?
It can't be anything that bad...

...Right?

As the PA system buzzed to life, Momoko listened in silence to the announcer. She closed her eyes as they began to prattle on about clubs and the student council, but the hand supporting her cheek twitched at the mention of the Alien Party. Squinting open one of her eyes she glanced at the other kids, before closing it back up. “The Alien Party, huh?” she muttered unconsciously. Her last school had been selected as part of the Alien Party programme before she was rather unceremoniously kicked out, but Momoko herself was never picked to be a participant. She’d seen them, rolling down the hallways and patrolling the school, even finding them a little cool. But connecting an alien straight to your head was a little gross, even by her standards.

Teens continued to trickle into the classroom in handfuls, chatting with each other about inane details and creating connections with one another. Some, though, lowered their tones when they spotted her, thinking that just because they were whispering that they could say whatever they liked about her. But whatever. It’s not like it’ll matter, anyways. At worst she’d foster a reputation as a trouble-maker, which in her eyes had no downsides. People would leave her alone and all she’d have to do was act nice and pretty in front of teachers. Easy.

Students finally filled the classroom. Idle chatter gradually filled the rest of the classroom with ease as the kids who stared at her moments before grew less frightened, once Momo showed that she wasn’t going to punch them next. They only fell into a hush once more when the teacher entered.

The poor educator tried their best to renew that same excitement from before they entered, to no avail. All they got were a bundle of bored onlookers who bore holes into the space behind them and the scant few students who looked genuinely excited to be there. Continuing on, the teacher proceeded to explain what the Alien Party was to anyone who was unaware. Momoko’s mind was momentarily snapped back to that infuriating boy with a beanie and dyed hair. Only for a moment though, before she turned her attention back to the one standing at the front. As they finally reached the end of their little speech, however, the air in the room seemed to tighten around her. Whispers began getting passed around Momoko, talking of her little ‘incident’ in front of the school gate. The girl in question felt her fist tighten, fingernails digging into her skin, her chest constricting.

There was no way they were going to pick her for the Alien Party, right? The teacher said don’t pick someone you dislike because they’d be in charge of saving your life! So, logically, they wouldn’t pick her. Picking a known delinquent is just a plain old bad idea, right? Right? Right. Writing down the name of the sap beside her, Momo let the student who volunteered take away her paper, before turning her back to the rest of the room. ‘No. No, there was no way.’ She was going to be fine.

For sure.

Outfit: Light pink hoodie covered by the school jacket, rolled up school pants.

Aris stared at his teacher, slightly slack-jawed and nearly completely lost. That was so much Japanese just spoken, so quickly, so perfectly. He seriously should have studied way more before school started. It wasn’t that he couldn’t understand it, because he could. He knew most of the words, like students and participation and government and mandatory, and also alien. He understood the teacher and what they had said. It was the subject matter that was getting him. Alien Party. Alien Party selections. Choose one of your classmates to throw to the dogs. He couldn't wrap his head around it.

Because, uh, excuse me! Choose someone to be the victim to this government funded atrocity that put young and innocent children in harms way? No way. He refused to participate.

He pushed that topic away from his head and also ignored the gossiping around him. He could tell he was being talked about, because of course he would be. Dyed hair, improper uniform, American boy, he had his skateboard leaning against the back of his chair, blah blah blah. He wondered if his classmates didn’t think he could understand them. How funny that would be, because the fact of the matter was that he did understand their murmured statements. He couldn’t exactly understand a few words, but he assumed those words were slang that he’d eventually pick up. He did get the gist of it all, though. And he knew he was not going to be making any friends on the first day of school.

Well, maybe he made one. Toya seemed nice and friendly enough. But that shortie at the gate? A new enemy, he assumed, since she had wanted to punch him. A friend and foe, all gained in less than an hour, on the first day of school. He actually felt somewhat amazed that he had pulled it off. It was a new record for him. His last achievement of note was when he made three enemies in the span of twenty-four hours and gained five new friends in the span of three days. But that wasn’t as impressive as making a friend and foe at the same time, on the first day of school, in a brand new country.

Man, he really fucked up. He did his best to not look frazzled in front of all his classmates and began drawing spirals on his paper, because doodling random scribbles definitely means one is not at all befuddled in the mind.

He did not want to be that girls enemy, honestly, but he didn’t think she’d want to ever talk to him again, so he had to settle for this foe option. It was actually kind of disappointing, he mused while drawing a garden of flowers along the bottom of his paper, that he had ran into her and then made such a fucking fool of himself. What did he even say? He couldn’t remember. It hadn’t been anything that bad, had it? Maybe he said something offensive to her, since he was stupid and didn’t understand Japanese customs. He wanted to try to make it up to her later, somehow. He could get her a chocolate bar or something and sneak it into her shoe locker and write a note saying sorry, signed by the idiot with the skateboard. But he didn’t even know her name, so how the hell would he do that? Ugh. Bad plan. He needed to think of something else.

Before he could do that, there was a coughing sound in front of him. He looked up from his paper and smiled sweetly at the student council sucker, then wrote a simple 'you ♡' on it. He handed it to the waiting student, who took it and spun around to deliver his doodled mess to the teacher. And then he tried to ignore all the prying eyes on him, which was only a bit difficult to do.

Saved by the bell! Kichiro hopped out of Aris's hands and stared at him for a moment, what to say... what to say...! His mind drew another blank, so he sped away towards the school, not wanting to hear how he was going to be made fun of. Another failed interaction to add to the pile, he couldn't say he was surprised, but it was still excruciating. This would certainly be one of those things that tormented him before he fell asleep some years in the future. Thankfully, that was all it would be- he and Aris weren't in the same grade nor did they seem to have the same interests. They'd never see each other again!
When he got inside he practically ran up to the third floor, feeling jittery from cringing at his skateboarding and trying to jog it off,
"Okay, it's fine. You're done, you just have to do school stuff, it's easy. No more cringe." he talked himself down as he walked into homeroom,
"No one knows y-!" the girl from the gate! She was sitting at a desk looking just as menacing as she had when she nearly punched Aris. It seemed everyone around her was thinking the same as they whispered and kept their distance. He was riding off his expert hiding-behind-Aris skills that she wouldn't notice who he was as he checked the front of the desks to find his name. Just his luck, he was meant to sit right behind her. Maybe this is a good thing... he was just out of her field of vision, he didn't talk near her so she wouldn't recognize him by voice... as he continued his bizarre thought process he had a seat and looked to the board.
Oh, the Alien Party vote. He'd been in classes that held a vote for the party before, but he'd never been elected. Well, once, but he was kicked out before anything happened. He wasn't eligible for some reason. No matter, he had a much more important goal this year, there was no time for him to waste on aliens- they wouldn't get him into a good college.
As the teacher spoke he looked around at his classmates, who to choose... that guy looked pretty strong. She seemed nice enough? They aren't too mean, maybe? It was way too difficult to judge people based off looks, hmm. What was her name? Momoko Furuta? She had guts, she nearly punched Aris. Maybe she would be a good choice.
"She's way too violent..."
"I saw that guy wear anime pins all the time last year, so lame."
As people's voices raised he noticed there was a lot of gossiping, nothing like how it was when there was a vote in elementary. Were they... picking people they didn't like? The teacher explicitly said not to do that!
"Those two that were at the gate during the fight..."
THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT HIM AND FURUTA?! Oh god, why hadn't he just stayed away from them, he would have no time to study fighting aliens all the time! Wait... if half of the class voted for him, and half for Furuta, if he voted for her then she would get elected! Easy peasy, sorry Furuta-san... but someone has to do it. He scribbled down her name and began to doodle on the edges of the paper, waiting until it was the very last moment to hand it to the student council member. What could he say, he liked to draw.

~School-Wide Post~

"What the..." the student council sucker who took Aris' paper mumbled to themself as they read what he'd wrote, sighing and tossing it into the box holding the rest.
"Alright, everyone. We're going to start the tally now, if you haven't turned in your paper go that now." the teacher announced as the student council member went to net in the last few people who hadn't turned their vote in yet. Doing a quick check to make sure there was the same amount of papers as there were students, the teacher began to call the names out and their helper kept count with lines on the chalkboard.
"Furuta" "Lia...ko..s?" "Nakagawa"
"Furuta" "Liakos" "Nakagawa"
"Toyama" "Liakos" "Nakagawa"
"Furuta" "Liakos" "Nakagawa"

As the names were called, the tension in the room deflated. It was obvious who was going to be wrestling with Alien-fighting duties.

"Toyama" "Liakos" "Nakagawa"
"Toyama" "Liakos" "Nakagawa"
"Toyama" "Liakos" "Nakagawa"
"Furuta" "Liakos" "Nakagawa"

......

"Seems that Liakos Aristotle has won in a landslide!"

"Nakagawa Asuka is the newest member of the Alien Party!"

"Uh... it seems there was a tie between Furuta Momoko and Toyama Kichiro... it's alright, the both of you are elected into the party."

they looked to the council member beside them,
"Thanks for your help, you can return to your classroom. As for those who were selected for the Party, congratulations! We'll be sending out an email to your parents detailing any information they may need, so be sure to go over that with them. Be prepared to start operations tomorrow, you'll go directly to the gym when you come to school."
Wiggling the mouse to their laptop and watching the screen come to life, they continued, "Alright, now that we're done with that, we need to go over school rules and procedures..."
as the lecture proceeded, the rest of the school day seemed to be a blur, the thing on everyone's mind was the Alien Party. Either glad they weren't apart of it or their up-and-coming mandatory participation weighing over their head. There seemed to be an invisible field around everyone elected, at lunch everyone kept their distance and in the hallways people went into a quiet hush. There wasn't much of note that happened throughout the day, and soon it was time to go home.

Alien Party, huh. Even after a whole day and night to marinate over the matter he still couldn't come to terms with it.
He hated to admit it, but things were actually going good until the vote. Yeah, Aris was sorta annoying, but he was nice enough to teach him how to ride a skateboard. Even though he fell, it was still fun. Now he was forced to be in this stupid alien-fighting club and his bento spoiled at lunch. Maybe it was his fault for choosing something with mayo but he could blame the party all he wanted. He didn't have time to waste on aliens, he needed to focus on college and getting good grades- how could he do that when he was forced to play hero?!
Trying to convince his mom to send in a letter or even listen to him for a moment was fruitless and he couldn't contact his dad yesterday, so here he was, storming his way into school again. He didn't even want to think about having to look Furuta in the eye, he'd practically dragged her down with him...
Ugh, no use letting it eat at him. He brought one of his favorite keychains with him today, a strange blob with a cat-like shape, for good luck. Staring at it dangling from his bag and hearing an anime theme song playing through his headphones made him smile as he reached the gate. Just gotta relax. He placed his headphones around his neck as he reached the gate.
"Good morning, sensei." he bowed slightly, listening intently to what he had to say. It'd be bad if he messed anything up on his first day. Aliens were pretty dangerous after all. Even if he didn't want to do it, he couldn't muck it up and get the whole school killed,
"Thank you." he put back on his headphones and went through the gates, making his way to the gym where he sat beside the door and messed with his keychain while waiting.

He didn't even think to check his uniform, there was nothing to check, this kid was like a background character. The only notable thing on him was the weird keychain, what was it even supposed to be? Maybe his efficiency at being so normal was impressive in it's own right.
"Thanks for following dress code."
Wasn't like he could do much if he was out of dress code anyway, Alien Party kids get away with everything it seemed. Probably because of the risk involved... on a worse note, seems like those troublemakers from yesterday were also in the Alien Party. What luck.

Asuka was voted in. On his first day, not knowing anyone, he was chosen.

That explains the rumors, but what the hell is this thing? No, best not to ask. Just stay cool and follow everyone else. Briefing must be given to us, it just has to!

He almost felt sick. But after sleeping it off, he woke up moody. He was ready to get the hell on with it. Of all times, it had to be the first day of high school. Not when he was a 4th year, or even a 2nd, it had to be his first day of his first year. He loaded his bag, and braced for the worst. But, he still had to be polite... Can't screw that up or maybe this will get worse. As he walked closer to the coach he took a deep breath, and calmed himself down, despite his inner anger.

"Good morning, Sensei."

He
was mentally trying to calm himself and it seemed to be working, as his posture was tall and steady. He patiently waited for the coach to allow him passage.

"Good morning." no way, the honors student was also in the Alien Party? He was younger than Toyama too, despite the height difference, Nakagawa seemed a lot more mature. The party probably loved having Nakagawa in their ranks, he could only make them look better.
"I'm assuming you already know, but you were elected into the Alien Party, so be sure to head down to the gym. It'll be opened when the bell rings." hopefully this kid would be able to mellow out Liakos, he didn't know how much of an attitude that guy would retain throughout the year but it'd be nice if he didn't start any antics like the one he had yesterday. Speaking of... he had the beanie in his pocket, if he didn't take the darn thing today he was going to drop it in the lost and found.

He wanted to punch something. Hard. But he took another mental breath and tried to calm down. That's when he noticed another kid sitting near the doors.
Another Alien Party member? How did he...
He
looked to see what the kid was doing, but he seemed distracted with his headphones and... interesting keychain. But one thing was obvious. He seemed to prefer an isolation.
Damn. It's not everyday you see a kid actually following an organized life. Some of these kids can be obnoxious as hell, but this one looks chill. Maybe whatever this thing is wont be so bad after all.
He smiled slightly to see someone not being ego-centric for once, but snapped back to reality.
They are clearly the outcasts. And if this pattern repeats, the rest will be too. Maybe in this same way? Who knows.
He decided to leave the kid be and once again pulled out his novel. He let the outside world escape him, as he continued to read.

He ceased his light humming the moment he saw a figure enter his peripheral, 'crap... act natural...' and he stared at his keychain more intensely to avoid eye contact. Seeing as the guy just went and sat nearby, he'd successfully escaped humiliation. Lowering the volume of his music he turned to the guy and stared at him curiously, thankfully he wasn't a teacher or anything. Though, judging by his looks he definitely could be, very well dressed and an actual book in his hands. Maybe it was required reading? Nah, chances are this guy is just a nerd. Well... he didn't have much place to talk, but he didn't mean it in a bad way! Enough, he should get acquainted with him, assuming he was apart of the Alien Party as well; it'd be better to get off on a good foot then spend the entire year in awkward silence. Plus, he'd look so cool if he had a friend to show to his dad, no longer a hikikomori!
When he moved to introduce himself, he instantly clammed up, leaving him standing near Nakagawa with a dumb expression. What had he read online... to start conversation: use props!
"Book." he pointed to the novel Nakagawa held.
Good start! Keep going!
"What... book s'that."
Perfect delivery! His practice with Aris really upped his skills, what could he say- he was a pro socialite. The only downside was that he had his keychain in an iron grip, which might've looked like a clenched fist in retrospect.

Outfit: School uniform, skates tied to her bag

That morning Momoko was walking to school, dwelling on her thoughts as her shoes clacked against the pavement. The Alien Party. Of all the shit she’d gotten herself into this was probably the worst. It was like the universe was trying to send her a message, telling her to run as far away as she could from this school. But of course she hadn’t, and now she was stuck with having to deal with goddamn aliens for fucks sake. Not to mention the fucking incident at the gate, which for some reason Momo still felt a little bad for. Her first day was absolutely awful, and now she was supposed to ‘work together’ with some group of random students? Momo wanted, oh so dearly, to punch whoever came up with the idea for the Alien Party in the face, but backpedalled when she recalled the close call yesterday. ‘Calm down Furuta, it’s not like you’re seeing him again…’

Letting out a groan, Momoko caught her reflection through the glass window of the FamilyMart. She hadn’t gone in the first day, choosing to skate by instead. She looked like a mess. Her shirt was untucked, her hair stuck out and her expression was twisted into a deep scowl. Looking at herself, Momo attempted to smile. It was pathetically clear, though, that her smile was completely fake. Lowering it back into a frown, Momoko let out a little sigh and tucked in her shirt, letting her bag lean against the window as she used both her hands to comb her hair back. The result was a somewhat cleaner looking gal. Looking into her eyes, said gal’s frown twitched, just for a moment, into a small determined smile. ‘You’ll be fine. You can handle this. You don’t have to talk to anyone, and you won’t have to worry about getting pushed into a club by dad. Just capture the Aliens and let the funny little helmet live with you for a year or so, then move on and graduate. You can do that. You can definitely do that.’

Feeling a little better after her personal pep talk, Momo picked up her bag and slung it over her shoulder, sighing into the air. As her skates clattered against her back, Momo peered into the FamilyMart and debated going inside. Aiko would kill for a small shop near her school, Momo thought smugly to herself. Deciding to take control of at least one thing today, Momoko abandoned the thought of buying something for her demonic little sister, walking away while whistling a little ditty to herself. ‘I’ll just bring her here after,’ the girl reasoned. ‘Definitely going to have her plead for it though, hehe.’

With a sadistic little grin Momo strolled up to the gate. ‘Here again, huh.’ Looking up at the towering man before her, Furuta wondered if the coach was supposed to stick by the gate every single day. Hey, at least it gave them a chance to get familiar. A pang of embarrassment struck the little lady as she remembered having almost punched that foreigner, an urge to apologize tugging at Momo’s heart. She didn’t cause a ruckus, but she still caused a scene, and for some reason the idea of having to face the coach every day felt a lot more sucky all of a sudden. “Good morning, coach,” Momo said with a wave and a pained grin, attempting to regain that earlier confidence she’d managed to hype herself into.

He refused it. He absolutely refused to accept this. He was so NOT going to a part of the Alien Party. He was new to Japan and new to this culture and new to this school, and he was in no way what-so-ever equipped to fight against aliens. He barely was able to fight against humans as it was. Well, okay, no. He could fight against people decently enough. He could get someone down and leave them with a pretty nasty black eye and lots of bruises, if he wanted to. Punching people was a lot easier than punching aliens, though.

Kicking off against the pavement and going fast on his skateboard was almost a good enough distraction from how horrible yesterday had been. It almost felt like he was running away from all of that stuff the day before. He might end up crashing and burning before he even got to the school gate, but he wouldn’t care if he did. It’d be a good thing if he did. If he got hurt and was medically incapacitated, then he wouldn’t have to be part of the Alien Party. He asked his parents last night, after he got home from school, to stab him with the kitchen knife his mom was holding. End his suffering. Take him out so that he didn’t need to fight the aliens. His parents obviously refused, since he was currently skating to school, and told him they would see what they could do to help him. Just try to put up with it for now.

He did not want to. Maybe he should have asked his cousin to do it instead. He probably would have, after Aris told him all the pros that would come with being stabbed. Like, pro: No longer a member of the Alien Party. Also pro: free pass to skip school while recovering. Another pro: Time to become familiar with the culture of this country. And, wow, another pro: Possible chance encounter with a cute boy at the hospital who found his foreignness so interesting, who also happened to have a cute sister who thought foreigners were so cool. It’d be a major pro if that happened. Aris and his cousin could make friends that might possibly turn into lovers. The only con that Aris could see from being stabbed was that it’d hurt for a little while.

Sadly, he had not asked his cousin to stab him. He had been too stressed and pissed off last night, so he had locked himself in his room and spammed his group chat to tell them about this horrible news. They said they would come and rescue him, just like his parents said they’d try to get him out of the situation. But he still had to go to school today. Still had to meet the other members of the party. Still had to find out what the fuck actually happened among the Alien Party. Maybe he could try to look at it as a learning experience.

After about three seconds, he decided not to do that.

The FamilyMart was fast approaching. He eyed it, then angled his skateboard so that he turned toward it. Maybe he’d try to make a good impression on all of his new Alien Party members by giving them gifts. Because, yes, he was not at all pleased to be part of it, but he didn’t really want to take out his anger on any of his soon to be teammates. They also might not be very thrilled with the news. Perhaps they could all bond over hating the situation.

This time he paid for the candy bars he picked up. The cashier said something about him not bringing his board into the store, but he shrugged and winked, then left before the guy could grumble anything to him. He wasn’t actually going to leave it outside, ever, unless there was someone out there to watch it for him. Glancing left and right, he saw no such person lingering outside this morning, looking bored and like they needed to do him a favor. He stuffed the six candy bars he bought into the pocket of his hoodie, then tossed his skateboard down and hopped onto it. Today he didn’t have anyone to keep pace with, so he made it to the school gate in only a few seconds.

He skidded his shoe against the ground then kicked his skateboard up, making sure to stop it before he got too close to anyone. He picked his board up and moved around some gossiping girls, then froze when he saw the same coach man talking with that same short girl who he ran into yesterday. Oh no. No. He didn’t want to piss her off anymore. He couldn’t be punched in the face before he met all of his Alien Party teammates. How would he ever possibly explain why he had a bruise by his eye, or a bloody nose, or whatever? Any kind of injury to his face would absolutely destroy his reputation, although he knew it was already basically shredded. One day. One whole day was all it took for him to become the rumor of the entire fourth-year students.

That was why he was nominated. Because he was a foreigner and he almost got into a fight with a girl before school even begun. It was completely unfair, to be honest. He didn’t almost punch her, and he apologized, like, twice. Or thrice! Picking him to suffer at the hands, or tentacles, or paws, or whatever, of the aliens just because he was not Japanese was so fucking annoying. Or was it because of his skateboard? Or hair? Or what?

He watched the girl say hello to the coach and decided now would be the perfect time to sneak around both of them. He pulled his hood up and ducked his head, then crept around the coach slowly. His board whacked into someone behind him and he turned to apologize, then realized if he stalled he’d be found out. He adjusted his hood and tried to duck between some students, hoping against all odds that the coach and/or the girl would not notice him.

"Book."

Asuka looked up and saw the kid was hovering him now. He also could see his hand clenched. He could see a small glimmer in the crack of his fist though. He was probably holding onto something.
Weird start but okay I guess...
"What... book s'that."
I don't know this kid, it sounds like he doesn't know me, but he doesn't seem to be ridiculing me either. Maybe my original judgement was right? Let's play a game then shall we.
Before responding, he quickly nabbed his bookmark and slid it into the book.
"Oh this?" He lifts the book slightly while looking at Toyama. "This is Noruwei no Mori. It's quite interesting really. It's about this sort of almuni who looks back on his college life and a growing relationship between two girls. The themes are deep and it is quite popular."
He
put the book down beside him to give the nervous kid full attention.
"My turn to ask a question. You are?"
He
had a small smirk on his face, but it wasn't intended to look menacing, though that might be what it came off as...

"Good morning, Furuta. Good luck with the Alien Party, you can wait near the gym and it'll open when the bell rings." he was glad to see she wasn't as aggravated as yesterday, but he felt a little guilty seeing how awkwardly she'd greeted him. He could remember the walk of shame to school when he was a kid. Oh well, it'd soon pass. "Thank you for following dress code."

thunk "Ow, what the-?"

Thunk? He turned to the side and saw a flash of green trying to sneak past, did they hurt someone? If they were trying to go undetected they failed miserably, how could he not notice one person in a hoodie out of crowd of people in uniform- this was his job! He grabbed the back of the hoodie and pulled the guy back to the gate,
"Hey, who- oh. It's you." he couldn't say he was surprised, letting him go he instead pulled out the beanie he'd dropped on him yesterday, "Take this. I can't give you an infraction for your uniform anymore since you're in the Alien Party, but I think it'd serve you well to follow the rules like everyone else. Go wait in front of the gym." maybe those out of uniform were his pet peeve, his work had become his personality, huh. The fact that it annoyed him so much made him even more frustrated. It really didn't matter, the school could go on and on about conformity but in reality, it didn't really make a difference- why couldn't he just follow the rules, though?! Was it really worth getting in trouble to wear a- what is that, a frog? A frog hoodie? Whatever.

He- he did it! His expression turned to shock as the guy put a bookmark in the book, he was seriously going to respond to him?!
"Oh this?"
he nodded slightly, eyes wide,
"This is Noruwei no Mori. It's quite interesting really. It's about this sort of almuni who looks back on his college life and a growing relationship between two girls. The themes are deep and it is quite popular."
He made a mental note of the title, he was definitely going to look it up later, how could he not? This was the first time he'd successfully done something like this! He was steeling to be ignored and called creepy, but now he'd made an acquaintance. He hoped he'd bookmarked the website he'd gotten his social interaction tips from, he was going to live by it now. Satisfied, he was ready to return to where he'd sat previously,
"My turn to ask a question. You are?"
It's not over? Had he not yet won this battle? This guy was really well spoken, he was no match, he hadn't read that far into the guide yet... no, he didn't need help! Why was he relying so heavily on the guide?! Just introduce yourself normally, it's not like this is the first time he'd ever done this,
"...Toyama Kichiro." perhaps he wanted something more than just his name, what else could he add?
"I'm... I am a cat person. Dogs are..." uh, he could be a dog person, best not to bash dogs right now. Divert the topic! "I'm a second year. W-what about you?"

"...Toyama Kichiro. I'm... I am a cat person. Dogs are..."
There was a pause after that.
Some sort of trauma with dogs or something? Eh, this guys seems like he's nervous. Best not to pester him about it.
"I'm a second year. W-what about you?"

"Asuka Nakagawa. First year. Dunno what any of this Alien Party is but I'm sure we're gonna find out as soon as these doors open."
He points to the gym doors.
"Anyway, I assume you're here for it to. It seems we've got a bit of a taboo on our names as well."
He motions his head into a point towards the kids staring at them. At this point, he's gotten used to it.
"So I'm assuming this Alien Party is no good. But that's enough downer, I hope to meet your acquaintance on our school life."
He
offers a smile to the timid Toyama and nods.

Alright. So at least the coach wasn’t mad at her. That was one thing to tick off the worry list. With a relieved sigh, Momo gave a plain “no problem,” to Okumura’s thanks, shooting him a lazy salute and a smile that was much less stiff. Turning around, Momoko was ready to leave when one of the heads in the crowd of students piped up with a pained cry. The sound caused the girl to pause, tilting her head curiously at the source. Her eyes were immediately drawn to the stark green blob that was trying to huddle past the pair, the owner’s face masked from view. Momo raised a questioning brow. ‘Seriously?’

As the coach grabbed the unfortunate student, Momo backed up, not ready for another confrontation at the school gate. And were the head of hair any other colour, she would’ve gone along her merry way to the gym, patting herself on the back for narrowly avoiding getting involved in another fiasco- but that mess of orange-pink was far too familiar. Too the poor girl’s horror, the student in the frog hoodie was, in fact, ‘'the Foreigner.’ It wasn’t an official title, just something her and her sister had made up for the enigmatic asshat, but it certainly stuck to her mind when those brown eyes were unsheathed from their froggy captor. ‘Oh god.’ Of course. Of course that of all the students, the one she would coincidentally run into on her SECOND FUCKING DAY was the same guy she'd almost clocked in the face. Of course. The school was cursed. That was the only explanation as to why she’d been so hopelessly unlucky.

Momoko’s curse theory only strengthened in her mind as the coach handed the boy his beanie and told him to gather at the gym with the rest of the Alien Party.

Yeah. Momo was definitely cursed. She had no idea who or what did the deed, but if she ever found the bastard she was sure as hell going to give them a stern talking to (preferably with her fist).

The boy looked away from the coach and met her eyes, causing the tiny bean to jump in her skin. Okay. So this is fine. Don’t panic Momoko. “They got you too huh?” was what emerged out of Momo’s mouth. She couldn’t help but feel a little proud of herself for sounding so nonchalant. A small smile twitched at her mouth, which, out of context, looked like a barely repressed smirk. Glancing away towards the gym, the girl let out a sigh more to herself than the boy. “Guessing we’ll be walking together huh. Unless you want to walk in separate directions only to crash back into each other.” Wait. Shit. That sounded like she was eluding to The Incident.

Momo didn’t even know why she was trying to appear casual- or, hell, fucking polite. The Foreigner was the one who crashed into her anyways, so if anything she should be throwing more shade at him. Yet for some unknown reason, Momoko found herself trying to… to make it up to the guy. For what? She wasn’t particularly sure. Just that she… wanted to. Besides she was already knee-deep in this grave she was digging for herself. She’d practically invited the guy to walk beside her to the gym. It wasn’t as though she could just storm her way off like last time to avoid this conflict. Plus, this confrontation was going to come up sooner or later once they’d found out they were paired together for the Alien Party anyways. Might as well get it out of the way now.

Turning away to hide the light flush on her cheeks, Momo began walking away. She allowed herself a few moments to regain her composure, before looking back at the boy with an expectant look. “You coming or what?” she said, trying to keep up with the casual farce. There was a force to her tone, created more out of frustration with herself. ‘I can’t believe I’m doing this. I can’t fucking believe I am doing this.’
