Fantasy I Was Fine Until You

(Yeah! We can def do that, I figure Silas wouldn't sleep with him right away. But I could see him being friendly/flirty with him. If Arthur started acting jealous and distant with him, Silas would definitely seek out some sort of comfort with the other guy after a while.
Ethan tho will probable turn Arthur away. Like I could see Arthur being drunk and kissing Ethan, And Ethan just shoving him away and telling him No. That he cares about Arthur, But they aren't together anymore. And that could maybe cause Arthur some more frustration and upset feelings. Also I like the name Florence! I dunno why. Sienna is also very pretty too. )

Arthur was soon questioning what family members to expect, And Silas hummed softly. "Fathers side. Moms family lives a bit further away. " Luckily in Silas's experience none of his relatives were nearly as cruel as his father. Some seemed rather friendly and he had a few fond memories with a few. Of course such could always be a mask. But Silas supposed that was the case with anyone around such parts. Arthur was soon preparing for the night, Starting it off right with a drink! Something that had Silas grinning as he took the offered drink. Taking a smaller sip then his companion. Arthur seemed willing to let take Silas take the lead, And thus Silas nodded. Looking around. He found himself pausing though as he caught a flash of red hair. Eyes narrowing for a moment as he tried to place a name to the color. Alas, His thoughts were interrupted by a cheerful voice. "My prince, What a pleasure to see you again. " Turning his gaze, It wasn't hard to find the source of the voice. The sight causing a smile to form on Silas's face.

A tall man stood nearby, Seeming to be in his late twenties or early thirties. With friendly dark brown eyes. And hair a shade of light brown. Silas soon was grinning. "Leo, The pleasure is mine, Its been a while! I was worried you'd never come back to visit me" He spoke, Tone a touch teasing. While the man, Who seemed to be named Leo simply seemed amused. Placing his hand on his chest and purring. "I could never stay away for long. " He expressed. It was then he glanced towards Arthur, Which caused Silas to blink. Oh, Introductions.

Silas then said. "Arthur, This is my cousin Leo. Leo, This is prince Arthur. " He explained quickly. Causing Leo to nod his head at Arthur. Saying cheerfully. "Its lovely to meet you sir. " He expressed. Reaching out to shake hands with Arthur. He then said. "I do hope prince Silas hasn't pestered you too much while you've been here. He can be a bit of a brat. " He mused, Earning a eye roll from Silas. Who said. "Leo, I am a perfect gentleman, Thank you very much. " Though judging by Leo's amused expression. It seemed Leo wasn't the most convinced by Silas's words. It was then Silas found his gaze flickering back to the crowd. pausing for a moment in thought as he searched. But he was soon distracted by Leo voice. The man saying gently. "Silas, Perhaps if you have time, We could... Catch up tonight? " A certain suggestive tone to his voice. Sadly, Silas didn't catch it. Having been briefly distracted. He soon glanced back to Leo. Musing. "Oh, Yeah, Of course. I'd love to. "

(Arthur is going to be feeling a bit outcast again, he knows he and Ethan aren't together anymore but thought maybe they could find some comfort with each other and he might accuse him of being with Galehaut and hurt his own feelings. But he’s also going to feel bad about it because he wants to be friends with Ethan, he’s just caught up in the jealousy from Silas.
i’m trying to think which would suit an assassin better. Florence feels quite flowery as a name, like a false pretence but I do like Sienna, hmm)

Arthur was unlucky, as usual, as Silas confirmed it was Rayner’s side but well surely no one could be worse than Rayner himself? Arthur was slightly surprised when a voice addressed them and his eyes snagged on the handsome man looking fondly at Silas. Silas seemed familiar with him which was…actually not at all shocking, Silas seemed familiar with everyone and even those he’d didn’t know Silas could act over familiar with. Still, the greeting seemed quite affectionate but he guessed that was explained by them being cousins. Arthur didn’t see his cousins that often, even Gawain and Agravain were often away, but he supposed Silas might be closer with his family.

Arthur shook Leo’s hand and smiled at he teased Silas. “Don’t lie Silas” Arthur chided as the other prince was trying to claim what a gentleman he was. No, he was a brat but Arthur quite Enjoyed that about Silas. The tone of Leo’s voice soon changed though, from teasing to….intimate. Now, Arthur knew he was naïve, but he wasn’t stupid, and he’d had a lot more experience with intimacy lately so the change in demeanour didn’t pass him by unnoticed, not like it did Silas. Arthur almost narrowed his eyes, instead looking Leo up and down in confusion that he tried to mask. What? And then Silas was agreeing, earning an incredulous glance from Arthur. What was happening? Didn’t Silas just say this man was his cousin? Okay Arthur couldn’t judge but he was confused and Leo didn’t seem at all bothered talking so suggestively to Silas and….a memory struck Arthur all of a sudden. Silas had told him a while ago, back when they’d been in his own kingdom, that he’d not actually slept with that many men. Ronan and Alexander, ugh, made two but he recalled Silas mentioning something about a cousin. A cousin. Like Leo.

Arthur, suddenly, was looking at Leo in a different light and a flicker of distaste went through him that he couldn’t quite contain. Hey, it wasn’t really any of his business what Silas got up to, no, as long as Silas was happy then so was Arthur. He picked up another drink from a passing tray and took a sip to distract himself and calm his thoughts. Was it too early to ask for that breather? “So Leo, are you and Silas close?” Arthur asked, pushing a smile onto his face that made his cheeks hurt almost insistently at how fake it was. Why did he ask questions that he knew would probably hurt. “Because I’ve really not heard much about you” he tacked on with the smallest frown at Silas. Yeah, not much at all, maybe that’d annoy Leo. “Or did Silas just used to pester you when he was little?” And oh, this was an older cousin, and Arthur knew older men was Silas’ type. He was getting a headache already. Maybe he should’ve gone to see Caroline straight away, then he wouldn’t be overreacting already and he wouldn’t have to witness whatever was going on. He really didn’t think it’s be an easier night.

(Ooh, Arthur might end up burning some bridges with all this. I can see Ethan getting pretty defensive. As for you're girls name. Could always go with both? Say she has multiple alias? But normally she goes with Sienna? Maybe? )

Things seemed for a moment rather light hearted. A change from the normal routine of such parties. Except, Arthur seemed to become tenser. Something Silas didn't notice at first. Not until he heard Arthur speak again. Causing Silas to glance in his direction. It wasn't hard to pick up that something was off. But Silas was unable to tell yet what exactly was wrong. Leo seemed not to notice though. Grinning at Arthur. "Very. " Amusement on his face as he looked towards Silas. Leo then did a mock gasp. "Silas, You haven't told him about me? I'm hurt. " That earned a scoff from Silas. The young man focusing more on Leo and musing. "It must have slipped my mind. " Leo smiled gently at that. Musing. "You could never slip mine. " His voice practically a purr and that seemed to cause Silas's cheeks to turn a bit red. Playfully shoving Leo. Earning a laugh from the man.

Leo then looked towards Arthur. Expressing. "Ah, No, I could never find his presence pestering. Though I admit we were never close until a few years. " He explained. His expression fond as he looked towards Silas, He then spoke softly. "I... I hope you've been doing well. " Slight worry showed in his voice. Which surprised Silas. It... Was nice. Leo and him weren't exactly the closest, Silas's relationship with him had been more of a fling then anything else. But there was still some fondness there. Silas thus murmured. "I'm alright Leo. Its.. Sweet that you're worried. "

Leo studied Silas for a moment more. Before nodding. Straightening up before saying. "Well, I'm going to go and get me a drink. Silas, Do you want me to bring you one of those tarts you like? I saw they were serving them?" That earned a grin from Silas. Who's eyes sparkled. "Of course! " He told, Leo thus was giving a nod, Before looking towards Arthur and questioning. "I can grab you something as well if you like? " He offered.

(Yeah maybe people know her by different names.
Poor Arthur, he’s going to be feeling pretty sorry for himself.)

Silas was glancing at him but didn’t seem to know the cause of Arthur’s tenseness. Why would he? Arthur shouldn’t care, they were just friends, nothing more and That had been Arthur decision, he’d been the one to say that they should move on from the kiss, that he didn’t want to mess up their friendship or jeopardise his marriage and trust with Caroline. But now here he was feeling strange emotions over a previous lover of Silas’. Something was definitely wrong with him, he imagined his father might say he was being too sensitive and he was probably right, this really shouldn't bother him.

Leo and Silas acted so easy together though and something in him ached slightly at that. He was glad when Leo said he was going to leave, even if not for long. Arthur shook his head “I’m fine“ he insisted. Voice slightly tense but trying to keep relaxed. Leo was just being nice and he was just being ridiculous. He buried himself in his drink a little more, wondering if the burning in his throat was the alcohol or misplaced jealousy. Yeah, he didn’t get it often but he knew what he was feeling and honestly he was ashamed. “He’s friendly” Arthur mused once Leo had left to fetch a drink, trying to keep his voice casual even if his grip on his drink was slightly strong.

Perhaps the alcohol had already gone to his head slightly because he was being a bit too emotional. Sure he often wore his heart on his sleeve but this was bit much and Silas probably thought he was ill or something. “He close to Caroline too?” But he Figured the answer was no, at least not in the same way. Still, he was curious if Silas would actually say if he was who Arthur suspected. But why would he? Again it was none of Arthur’s business, he was simply overreacting. He needed to get a grip before he made himself out to be too much of a fool. Was it because he was a man? Obviously he knew Silas had slept around but he’d never thought much about the women he’d been with, they were probably all around him if they were being honest so he wouldn’t know where to start. Maybe it’s because the only really serious relationship Silas had seemed to have had had been with a man.

Arthur's tone left Silas a bit confused, Arthur was known to be a rather friendly guy. But his words to Leo were short and tense. Leo did not seem to mind or notice though. Giving a nod and hurrying off. Leaving Arthur and Silas behind. Silas couldn't help but tilt his head slightly. Soon humming. "He's always been nice. You two might get along? " He suggested. Except looking at Arthur, Silas couldn't help but think that such chances were low. Silas then glanced towards Caroline. Musing. "No, I've never seen them interact much. Me and him have a more... Intimate history. " He explained. Which likely confirmed Arthur's thoughts.

Silas though was hesitant. Reaching forward to take Arthur's hand. Saying gently. "Hey, Are you alright? You... If this is too much we can make a excuse to escape early? " Rayner wouldn't be happy, But they could deal with the consequences later. No. Tonight might be a bit to much for Arthur. Silas could understand not wanting to hang around the ball. Silas was just about to suggest other ways they could escape. Except soon Leo was returning. He'd only left for a moment. In his hands a small plate with a tart on it. While in his other hand a wine glass. Leo then said chipperly. "Here ya go. " He offered. Playfully doing a small bow as he held out the plate. "A offering for my prince. " He informed playfully. Standing up straighter as Silas took the plate.

Silas couldn't help but find the scene amusing. Chuckling. "Well, You definitely remembered what I like. Thank you Leo. " Causing Leo to give a rather cheeky smile before he took a drink from his glass. He then was prompting. "Hmm... Hey, Why don't we head over to one of the tables to talk. Its a bit more private there. " They could be a bit more risky with their words. Silas paused at the offer, Glancing towards Arthur. Perhaps the extra privacy might help Arthur calm a bit. So he then after a moment said. "That might be nice, What do you think Arthur? " He questioned, And that made Leo's smile falter briefly. Likely preferring things to just be him and Silas. But Silas wasn't so eager to leave Arthur behind.

Arthur and Leo might not have a friendship anytime soon not that it was really Leo’s fault, Arthur knew he was being childish and a hypocrite but he couldn’t help himself. He felt something in him twinge as Silas hinted at what he’d already suspected. He said it so blasé as well, but Arthur supposed Silas had an intimate history with lots of people and Arthur really shouldn’t be affected by it. Silas was turning soft though and Arthur’s hand tingled as it was taken by Silas and his mouth went a little dry. He enjoyed the teasing and playfulness but he loved when they broke apart to reveal the tenderness below. He appreciated the offer but he knew better than to accept so he was shaking his head as Leo returned and as much as he wanted to grip Silas’ hand possessively, he let their hands drop apart.

Of course Leo wanted privacy, he wanted to chat Silas up without being judged too much. Arthur saw the look flash on Leo’s face, understood it even more. He was torn, on the one hand he did not want to leave Leo alone with Silas, knew what the goal was, but on the other hand he felt like he should remove himself from the situation, it was doing him no favours to listen to Leo’s flirting. “It might be quieter“ Arthur agreed before his mind had made up a decision. Obviously his presence wouldn’t necessarily deter Leo but he might chose his words more carefully. Arthur couldn’t help but feel he was acting odd, almost territorial over Silas and he knew that was ridiculous and rude but he’d never really felt this way before, didn’t know how to handle it.

”so Leo, you got a family? Wife? Kids?” He asked and again it was double edged question, trying to remind Leo that if he did he shouldn’t really be doing this and wow, look at Arthur throwing stones in glass houses. He did wonder if Leo was like him, only an interest in men or more like Silas who enjoyed both, maybe he could redirect him to someone else? Like Galehaut? He had no idea who he’d do that though. ”or are you looking for a lovely lady tonight? I’m sure we could help you find someone” Arthur insisted, there were probably loads of single women, and why shouldn’t they be interested in Leo? He was handsome, unfortunately, and cousin to the prince, what a catch!

Arthur seemed to want to join, Which well, Leo wasn't the biggest fan of. But whatever objections he might have he kept to himself. Nodding and beginning to lead the way towards a table more in the corner of the room. Such would perhaps give them more privacy and Silas figured such might help Arthur. Surely the man was just nervous or something? Reaching the table, Silas soon was taking a seat, But well, Arthur was soon asking Leo questions. Causing the man to raise his eyebrow as he took his own seat near Silas. "Oh no, No wife yet. I'm not so eager to settle down yet. " He explained simply. Before he smiled at Arthur. "Truthfully I'm surprised your not with your own wife. Lady Caroline is known to be a beauty. You're a lucky man." He expressed. A certain tension was in the air. And now with more privacy it was likely more noticeable to everyone.

Silas thus finished off his drink. Well, These two weren't getting along. Something Silas found strange. Arthur was normally a friendly guy. But he didn't seem to be getting along too well with Leo. Who was also rather friendly. Silas thus decided to try. "You know Arthur, Leo's into sword fighting as well. He's pretty tough too!" He began. See, Such was a topic both men could enjoy! Surely that would perk things up. Leo paused at that before grinning. "Oh, Yes, I've always enjoyed a good spar. Perhaps we could have a go later? I'm afraid I doubt I'll be as good as your kingdoms knights. " He expressed.

That caused Silas to roll his eyes, The young man gently shoving Leo as he scoffed. "Leo, Don't be so modest. " Leo seemed amused by Silas's antics, Musing lightly. "Silas, Sweetheart. I think everyone is tough compared to you. You're a bit... Dainty. " He then was leaning closer. Expression fond as he purred. "But thats alright, I can protect you should you need it. " He promised. Earning a slight blush from Silas.

So Leo wasn’t married so really he wasn’t doing as much harm as Arthur. The mention of Caroline seemed…pointed, a way for get Arthur to leave them and he understood but he didn’t quite play along. He gave Leo a smile. “I know I’m lucky but she’s eager to catch up with her friends and I confirmed blame her. I don’t think I’ll be able to add much to their topics of conversation” Fashion and pregnancy? no. Boys? perhaps. He should go see Caroline soon though, they really didn’t act married and needed to try better at presenting a united front.

Silas was sweet, trying to get them to bond, but it seemed he hadn’t sussed out the reason for the tension. “Maybe” Arthur agreed “I’ve never really fought anyone from this kingdom, it’l, be interetsinf to see how your technique differs” Like the culture and the attitudes, he was sure it’d be different, but Arthur wasn’t feeling great emotionally, he might get carried away in a battle. He’d fought well against Loth whilst fairly emotional but well…best not to let the conclusion repeat with Leo.

Leo was calling Silas dainty, a reflection of when Arthur had called him scrawny but his voice was soon changing again and Arthur felt a strike of bile up his throat in repulsion. “Silas doesn’t need overprotecting, he’s always telling me how he does actually know how to fight“ Although Arthur had yet to see any solid evidence besides him killing Ronan and he imagined he’d taken him by surprise then. “Plus, I’m teaching him a few things“ Self defence more than offensive but he did not need Leo swooping in to be a knight in shining armour. ”But I tell you what, if you want a good spar and to ‘protect’ Silas then you should go see Gawain” yes, away from them. “You and him were hardly the best of friends on the way up here were you?” He said, switching his gaze to Silas. And maybe it was weird to bring up and might sour Silas’ mood but hopefully it’s have him feeling a bit less amorous. “It was a shame Lance couldn’t have escorted you instead” and a reminder there of why Silas had initially gone celibate, whether He still Had a thing for Lance he didn’t know but it was worth a try. His mouth felt sick at the way he was acting, it really wasn’t a good look on him this jealousy but it was hard to stop and pull himself away.

Arthur and Leo dueling perhaps wouldn't end well. There just was too much tension seemingly between the both of them. One could practically hear Arthur's distaste in his tone. It was something that Silas found confusing. Only seeming to increase when Leo addressed Silas. Arthur spoke for Silas, Something Silas wasn't sure how he felt about. But for the moment he kept quiet. Leo though was soon raising his eyebrow. But he soon smiled slightly. About to speak, Except Arthur was soon bringing up Gawain. Something that had Silas tensing up. The young man sending a glare towards Arthur. A small warning to be quiet. But then Arthur even brought up Lance. Silas's mood thus turned less from concern to annoyance.

Perhaps Silas had misjudged? Arthur's agitation might have been more targeted at Silas then Leo. But if so, What had Silas done to irritate him so? Leo of course had questions. But he wasn't getting a chance to ask any of them, Because Silas was standing up. Glancing only a moment at him and saying. "Leo, Could you excuse us a moment. Me and Arthur need to talk. " Silas explained. Looking at Arthur and gesturing for him to follow.

He didn't wait for Arthur to argue. Didn't look back to see if he listened. No. Silas was soon marching away. Headed out of the ballroom and towards a nearby hallway. He didn't know what Arthur's problem was. But he didn't like it, He didn't need to be bringing up Gawain! Or even Lance! Was he trying to just make everything uncomfortable? That seemed likely, But Silas did not understand why!

Arthur seemingly had managed to turn the mood less flirty but too well. Silas was getting annoyed and Arthur regretted it almost immediately. He hadn’t needed to bring his friend down like that, as if these balls weren’t difficult enough as they were. Silas didn’t play coy or mess about, soon asking for even more privacy so he could have a word with Arthur. Oh, somebody was in trouble. He glanced at Leo before trailing after Silas, feeling like a naughty child all but minus dragging his feet.

It wasn’t long before they were soon alone and Arthur wasn’t sure if Silas knew why he’d been acting strangely. Maybe it was obvious, or maybe Arthur was being obtuse and had misread the signals from Leo. Still, what was he going to say? That he didn’t like the way Leo looked at Silas, or the lecherous tone in his voice. It sounded stupid and petty and really like it should be none of his concern at all. Arthur was the one who’d said no to a relationship with Silas. But was it still so strange to be jealous over those who might be with him? Hypocritical at the very least.

Well, they couldn’t just stand here in silence and Arthur was suddenly glad that he’d finished his second drink of the night already, knew this might be awkward. “I’m sorry for bringing up Gawain and Lance” he started, look earnest even if he knew in the first place that Silas wouldn’t react overly well to it. Did an apology count when he’d wanted something to that effect to happen? “I won’t do it again” he promised, well unless he got another major flash of jealousy but hopefully he’d be able to restrain himself. Arthur didn’t want to talk about his jealousy though but knew Silas would likely interrogate him. “But at least I know it works to get us a breather“ he added as a bit of a joke, going for a smile that quickly fell flat in the awkward atmosphere. Silas was probably trying to be a bit more serious now. And he’d probably laugh at the reason Arthur was acting out, or deem it unfair. If he was so jealous then Maybe he should change his decision, tell Silas that they could be together, try things, kiss him right now, they were alone and the drink had made him bold, but no, Arthur wasn’t so far gone that he didn’t realise how bad an idea that might be. The only outward appearance that it had even crossed his mind was a quick wetting of his lips and the smallest of glances to Silas’ mouth That the other prince might not even catch. After all, it was hardly the situation or time for it.

It didn't take long before the two were reaching the hallway, Silas crossing his arms and turning to face Arthur. "It better not. " His expression serious. Silas did not want to have to talk about things regarding Gawain. Wanted to simply avoid the topic, But no. Arthur just had to bring it up. Arthur was making things worse by trying to joke. Something Silas did not find it amusing. Huffing. "I know these balls are a pain. But you've no right to act rude with me over it. " Because that seemed to Silas to be what the problem was. Arthur was likely stressed from the ball. It seemed Silas had not picked up on the jealousy. Had assumed the issues was from other things. Silas wasn't much in the mood to deal with Arthur having a attitude though. It showed on his face.

Silas then huffed. "Now, I'm going to go back to the table, And enjoy a pleasant talk with Leo. You can come join us when you learn how to be polite. " Silas could atleast try to enjoy the night. Arthur would be fine without him. He could go and bother Caroline if he needed someone to keep him company. Or return if he was willing to behave. Silas's desire to talk with Leo might flare up a bit more of Arthur's jealousy though.

Silas then went to try and move past Arthur. Hopeful to return to the party. A bitter taste in his mouth. He didn't like this, Normally things were rather cheerful between him and Arthur. Leaving on a sour note felt wrong. But Silas did not want to sit there and put up with Arthur's behavior at the moment. Maybe it was the alcohol causing such? Arthur could be a bit of a light weight!

Things were worse than Arthur had anticipated. Silas Didn’t even ask what his problem was, just flat out stated that he wouldn’t put up with it and Arthur felt the harshness like a physical stinging, pressing his lips together uncomfortably. He hadn’t been trying for rude but he guessed he had ended up there and the shame was burning strongly in him. Then to make matters even worse Silas was aiming to go back to Leo, but alone this time, really the opposite of what Arthur had wanted. Arthur had pushed them together in the end and now Silas thought he was rude and unfriendly and distant.

There was enough time to stop Silas, to grab his arm and explain the situation, to ask him not to leave or at least not to go back to Leo. He could’ve got in his way, kissed him, tried to tell him all these weird feelings inside that he didn’t quite know how to deal with or fully articulate. He could’ve done any number of things to change the situation he’d gotten himself into but he didn’t. The idea of explaining his jealousy was embarrassing, burning bright in his forethought, making him cringe at the slight suggestion. Silas would think him childish, or unfair, and go back to Leo anyway probably. So, Arthur just squeezed his eyes shut and repeated in a voice just shy of breaking: “sorry.” There was nothing more he could say. Silas didn’t deserve to be burdened with his frankly insane jealousy or the ocean that was his emotions when he thought of him. He should just let Silas enjoy his night even if that meant he was with Leo.

Arthur stayed there a little longer, hands curled into fists, of not quite anger but frustration at what he’d done, at the overload of emotions that he didn’t fully understand or know how to deal with, tears only real kept back by his eyes scrunched shut before he pounded one solid fist against the wall to let out a bit of energy and turned to walk back into the ball. Best to get his mind off of things so he grabbed another drink as soon as he could and moved towards Caroline, steadily keeping his eyes trained forward on her and not glancing off to look for Silas, forcing a smile onto his face that got easier the more the alcohol hit him and the longer he let it rest on his face. “Shall we dance darling?” He asked once he’d reached Caroline. They didn’t really use pet names, nor did they come overly easily to them he felt but they were in public and expected to be close so felt he might as well trial it. By now he’d already finished his drink and had a hand out stretched to her invitingly.

Caroline was not the only one being asked to dance. Gawain too had been approached in a less traditional fashion. Having freshly pilfered a wonderful sapphire, the green robed lady stopped in front of Gawain and graced him with a deceptively pleasant smile. “Are you not going to ask me to dance?” She inquired with a teasing raise of an eyebrow. She knew she was playing with fire a little, she recognised Gawain, had seen him before, met him a few times in the past but well, they had been through work mostly and she was curious to see if he’d recognise her. He was likely not used to seeing her dressed up and without her mask but her ‘disguise‘ would not necessarily fool him. That was okay though, she enjoyed playing and this seemed like a fun game. Balls were not her usual scene however besides jewels they were good to pick up information from, lots of gossip going around these high circles that might end up being useful. Maybe Gawain would even have something for her.

It didn't take long before Arthur was left behind on his own. Seemed him and Silas might need to have a long talk later. Soon Arthur was setting off though to seek companionship with his wife. The young woman had been sitting casually with her friends. Gossiping about random things, A few of the other girls certainly had questions about Arthur. Some slightly intimate questions that Caroline did her best to dodge. Luckily the man in question was soon arriving. Perhaps his appearance was enough to sate some of there curiosity. Except he seemed to not want to linger long. Soon offering Caroline a dance.

Caroline couldn't help but look a bit startled by his sudden appearance. The pet name something that gave her a bit of pause. It felt odd to hear from him. Perhaps had Lance been one to say it, Her feelings might have been different. Still she was happy to accept Arthur's offer. Soon smiling. "Sure, I'd love to. " She said, Carefully standing up and walking to Arthur's side. Offering her hand to him, She could hear behind her the soft giggles and whispers from her friends. No doubt gushing over Arthur's handsomeness. He certainly was a pretty young man.

--

Gawain was also soon to be approached. Something that was not that unusual for him. He was a handsome famous knight. But Gawain normally politely turned down such advances. Not having the desire to pursue them, Nor wishing to lead them on. The green robed lady was a special case though. Gawain had noticed her approaching him. Standing to the side, He had been chatting with a few other knights. Only pausing when she made it clear her desire to speak to him. A friendly smile crossed his expression. Though underneath certainly some wariness. Perhaps a different knight might have not had any worries at all. Many knights could easily be charmed by such a lady. Gawain seemed to have some sense of something being off. Even if he might not have recognized her right away.

Still, He nodded his head. "Ah, My apologies, I was so mesmerized that it slipped my mind. " He mused, Dipping his head and offering his hand. Before gently leading her a bit away from the others. Towards the ball room floor. Away from voices that might hear. Gawain prepared to Dance. Humming in thought. "So, May I ask how much you've managed to pilfer so far? " Seemed Gawain had noticed a few things. But he didn't seem eager to call the guards or anything. No, He seemed only curious of how she'd respond.

Perhaps Arthur should’ve stuck around and made small talk with her friends but he thought it might be soothing to do something physical, even if it was only dancing. So, his smile brightened as she accepted and he led her towards the dance floor. “Enjoying the night so far?” He asked as they started to dance. He imagined it was going better for her than for him. He did consider that too much twirling around the floor would be problematic, he was prone to throwing up himself with how much he’d already drunk although he did think he was doing quite well with all that alcohol considered, definitely better than he might’ve in the past but his limbs were definitely a bit fuzzy and his mind struggling to concentrate on anything small for long. In fact, he was still thinking about Silas and Leo, it was hard to get out of his brain. And it didn’t help that as they moved around the ballroom, he caught occasional glimpses of the pair. His grip on Caroline tightened slightly before he forced himself to relax, he had no say in it and it should be none of his concern. “I’m glad you’re here” he admitted. “I like spending time with you” and it was good to have someone he could go to besides Silas. “And you do look really beautiful tonight” he added, which was true, she really suited her lovely dresses, even if she also suited being half dressed and streaked in mud from chasing lizards. She was just a girl who could suit it all.

She took the offered hand and followed him to the dance floor, placing her arms ready to dance. She laughed in gentle amusement at the question: “oh, nothing they’ll miss but enough to keep a girl happy” she promised. “Besides, they should count themselves lucky I’m not here on more official business” It was said in a way which implied danger when she said official. Yes, they were lucky she was only robbing them. “So, what brings you all the way out here? This isn’t your usual stomping ground nor would I say guarding a prince is your usual job” of course it was possible he was here just to keep Prince Arthur safe but she knew he was used to more exotic jaunts.

“I must say, I thought you might turn down a dance” she admitted. “I’ve seen you turn away girls. Guess I’m just special” and she flashed him a more mischievous smile. ”Although I can understand if you’re not interesting vapid airheads, still, most men seem to prefer a pretty face than an intellectual equal.“ she mused. “Tell me, is the prince pleased with his wife? She’s beautiful, but they don’t seem like they’d have much in common” although that could apply to a lot of marriages.

It didn't take long before Arthur and Caroline were dancing. Though this near, Caroline took note that Arthur already smelled a bit of alcohol. "I have been, Most of the more frustrating nobles would not dare to bother me when I'm with my friends. " She said with a grin. It was true enough. Caroline knew the other ladies would have her back, Others did too. Thus it offered some protection. Besides, It was nice getting to catch up. As difficult as everything was, Caroline had missed home. Arthur seemed to focus elsewhere half of the time. Even while complimenting her. Though Caroline simply tilted her head. Humming softly. "And you are looking rather handsome. You should have heard what my friends were saying when they saw you across the room. " She teased playfully.

---

The woman did not try to hide her thievery. Gawain might need to check his pockets once they finished the dance. She was questioning him though. Which Gawain soon enough answered. "I'm here for my niece. " He did not feel the need to explain much further. He had no doubt if this woman wanted to know more about him, Well. She'd find out. She spoke more, Seemed to think highly of herself. Gawain though soon mused. "Special, Hmm... No, I simply wish to know if I should expect trouble from you. " His answer honest. Gawain could tell she was someone to be wary of.

She seemed curious about the prince and princess. Gawain frowned at that. Saying simply. "It is a arranged marriage. I imagine things will take time. " It wasn't really a explanation. Gawain was perhaps a bit wary of speaking to much. He did not know this womans intentions. But his gut feeling was telling him to be careful. He though did hum. "But what of you? Are you simply here to make purses lighter? " He doubted such was the only thing she tended to get up to. Though he doubted she'd spill much to him.

Caroline was very good at telling if Arthur had been drinking or not and as of late that had become a much more common occurrence, what with the balls and Silas’ influence, alcohol had become more familiar to him even if not entirely enjoyable still. He smiled, glad to hear she was protected by her friends. “They seem to aim straight for me” Arthur mused, likely because they couldn’t reach Caroline and they were probably eager to annoy Silas too. Would Leo’s presence protect Silas? Arthur didn’t know and tried to focus on Caroline. She was his wife, she was a Big part of the reason why he had to keep a bit of distance from Silas. “Oh really? What were they saying?” He asked with a small slightly distracted grin. She had heard her friends, surely she could repeat their words. “I think we should go shopping in town soon” he told her. “I’d like your help picking out some more clothes” he explained. “And I was thinking we could go dress shopping at the same time” he suggested. And he knew it would be a while before the returned but maybe they could also browse the baby clothes, with two children soon to be known as his heirs it might be worth preparing, plus he could always bring back something for his new little sibling.

The lady was a little a surprised to hear he was here for his niece, she knew of his brothers and as far as she was aware they did not yet have any children so she figured it must be from one of his sisters but she hadn’t expected them to be all the way out here. It seemed that people were too caught up in gossip of the royals and court affairs that news regarding Gaheris and Gwen had slipped under her radar for the moment. Although it was probably not something advertised by the knights here. She arched an eyebrow at him as he suggested trouble.

”of Course they well. Although with such an attractive pair I Would’ve thought theyd struggle to get out of bed to attend such matters” Arthur and Caroline really were stunning individuals and even if they didn’t love each other, she imagined more people expected them to be all over each other out of physical attraction. Love sometimes took a while but she thought lust might’ve been quicker. Still, she guessed the princess was pregnant so perhaps that had something to do with it. “Make purses light, loosen lips and have a good time” she explained with a devilish smile. “A girl’s got to have her fun” she insisted moving a hand to rest against Gawain’s chest. ”what about you Gawain? Do you ever have fun?” She asked teasingly. Gawain didnt really seem to recognise her which she found amusing Although was aware something could click for him at any point, still, she liked her games. “Even at this ball and you’re not off duty. Any girl in here would be thrilled to dance with you but instead you stood there like you were guarding something.“ she pointed out. “Have a drink, let loose s little” she insisted. “I promise to behave” She let her hand trail up to his face and cup his cheek. “Unless you want me to be naughty” she added, voice dropping into a seductive tone and eyes half lidded before she went to grip his face a little rougher and pull him down for a kiss. She was well aware that he might not be into it, that was fine, she more wanted to put him off balance a little, mess with him. Lance would’ve melted into the kiss, he was a bit of a sucker like that she’d admit but he was fun to play with.

Gawain supposed many people likely thought the same about Caroline and Arthur. The two were beautiful. But Gawain wasn't keen on her poking into the royal families affairs. The woman was getting a bit touchy. Which Gawain allowed for the moment. Narrowing his eyes as he felt her hand on her chest. "Perhaps I find my job fun. " He pointed out. Yeah, He had no plans of having a drink. Her hand on his face was uncomfortable. But still, Gawain was willing to behave. Except she was soon pushing things too far. Gawain was not someone who would fall for her games. No, If anything such interactions stirred only panic from him. Freezing him for a moment before he rather roughly aimed to shove her back. He could feel eyes turning on him, Curious at the slight scene. But Gawain was not happy. Paid little attention to those around him as he hissed firmly. "Touch me again and I'll cut you down. "

His actions were not loud. But it did draw a few whispers. Gawain did not care though. This woman had outstayed her welcome. She had succeeded in getting under his skin! Except perhaps not in the way she had hoped. After a moment, Gawain seemed to calm himself a bit. Venom still showed in his glare as he stared down at her. But his posture was not as hostile. "Leave, Before I decide to put you in chains. " He warned.

Arthur seemed to only half focus on Caroline, Something that made her pout for a brief moment. He was questioning what her friends said? Yeah, She didn't think he'd want to know. But she perked up at the mention of shopping. Smiling at him. "Of course, You could perhaps use some warmer fancy clothes. " She noted. Much of his clothes were ment for hotter weather. Maybe something that would help keep him more warm would be liked. She paused though as she caught sight of activity nearby. Her eyes landing on Gawain. She then noted. "...Looks like even Gawain is finding such parties frustrating. " He did not look happy. Seemed to be saying something to a lady that Caroline assumed to be a noble.

Gawain’s reaction was unusual. Many men would enjoy the kiss, others would be suspicious and unreceptive but Gawain’s reaction was far more extreme. The tenseness in his body and urgency in his actions. Was that panic in his eyes? And then he was even threatening her. She raised an eyebrow at him again, managing to stay unruffled at his reaction but certainly finding it intriguing. “I’d like to see you try” she replied firmly. She would not go easily but now was perhaps not the place to have too much of a scene with Gawain. She gave him a look up and down before turning to disappear into the crowd leaving with the parting words: “you’re really not much fun” No, he didn’t play along and he was strangely harsh and unreceptive. She found it curious but best to let him settle for now.

Warmer clothes? That sounded like a great idea. Things were Relatively warm in the castle, like now, especially with all the people around, but they were still colder than he was used to. Maybe he’d enjoy himself more if he wasn’t constantly freezing. Arthur turned to see the commotion Gawain was causing and frowned, he would’ve thought Gawain would be good at acting polite and civil at such events but clearly something had set him off. The lady he was with didn’t look exactly pleased and they were soon parting ways. He wondered what that had been about, perhaps he’d ask later. For now he turned back to Caroline. “I can hardly blame him, and at least your father is less concerned with how he behaves” he pointed out. Rayner was hardly going to bring Gawain in and have him flogged now was he?

”Silas seems to be enjoying himself this time round” Arthur said, unable to help himself and working hard to keep his voice neutral although not entirely sure it worked. Even so, Caroline might find it Unusual if he talked about Silas in such an emotionless voice. “He’s spending time with your cousin, Leo” he explained, a bitter taste in his mouth. “They’re getting along like a house on fire. I’ve never seen Silas that friendly with anyone besides Ronan” and Caroline and perhaps himself. Sure Silas was friendly with others like Caroline’s friends but not in the same way he’d say. Did Caroline know about Silas’ history with Leo? Not that it really mattered, but she did seem to have some information regarding her brother’s love life.

I feel it’s difficult to rp all of a ball. We can always skip to a bit later in the night if you want where Arthur has gotten more drunk and is about to go off and find Ethan which he’s going to let Silas know about. I imagine he’s probably avoided Silas the rest of the night, hanging out with Caroline or the nights and just slamming back drinks whenever he can to get his mind off of it. I can imagine him leaving early as well maybe, if Caroline leaves because she feels ill/sick then he could leave as well, claiming to look after her but instead going to find Ethan, although he might check on her she can probably tell he’s quite drunk and she doesn’t really seem to like when he drinks, or at least she seems to dislike when he comes back smelling of alcohol the nights after he’s been drinking, like with Silas.

Sorry about my slow responses. But Yeah! we can totally do a bit of a skip, Like we can go ahead and play Arthur going to seek out Ethan. And then him going back to Caroline and of course, She's not happy either. Like I feel like Arthur is gonna have a rough night. Like, Caroline might try to talk to him a bit about how much he's been drinking lately and that likely won't go over well.

(I had planned for Arthur to go see Galehaut afterwards although we can tweak that. If/when Ethan rejects him, he can go to Caroline but then she brings up his drinking and they have a bit of a spat so he doesn’t stay and then goes off. They’ve not really argued much so far, in the beginning they had a few disagreements I guess and obviously Caroline has gotten upset but they’ve not really fought)

Wasnt it funny how you could feel lonely standing in a room full of people? Well maybe funny wasn’t the right word because Arthur certainly wasn’t laughing. He didnt tend to enjoy balls at the best of times but without Silas by his side, things felt even more dire. He had Caroline and some of the knights but it wasn’t the same; he hadn’t realised how much safety he’d derived from Silas’ presence. He wasn’t some little kid that needed him to hold his hand but it was reassuring to have him there, to know that Silas disliked the balls too, to have someone to laugh with and to look out for just as much ti have someone look out for him. It had been tough without him keeping him company but Arthur wouldn’t have minded if Silas had been unable to attend, it was the fact that Silas was here but with someone else. It was torturing him. And he rolled it around in his mind. He knew he was being rididuclous and petty and hypocrite, that it was childish and unfair and even mean but he didn’t know what to do with his jealousy. Knowing what it was didn’t help him. So, he’d tried to numb his brain, taking drinks where he could and hoping the alcohol would help. He couldn’t stop seeing Silas with Leo though. It was burned into his brain, in his vision every time he looked around the room, it was impossible not to glance at them. The ball would not last for ever though and soon things were dwindling a bit, enough for Arthur to decide and make a break.

The incessant thoughts of Silas, the burning rage and the excessive alcohol was doing funny things to his thoughts. A stunningly poor decision was already cemented in his brain as he made his way over to Silas to bid him farewell for the night. He was walking quite well when you considered how much he’d drunk and he was doing far better than he normally would. The jealousy was probably centering him, giving him something to focus on. It wasn’t difficult To tell he was drunk though, pupils too wide, reactions a bit slow and the smell of alcohol on his breath, would Silas truly understand how drunk though? “Still around Liam? I’m surprised Silas hasn’t pestered you away” he greeted with a smile that was easy but felt hard, clapping a hand to Silas’ back.. Obviously he knew Leo’s name, was just being petty calling him something else but he Could hardly do anything big against him. “Anyway, I just came to say goodnight, I better be off” keeping his voice jolly even if he was anything but. He turned more directly to Silas, voice dropping to keep the words between them. “Your bed is yours tonight, I’m Going to find Ethan” His eyes dark and Voice pointed. He wished he could be flippant about it. Silas would want some real privacy with Leo, Arthur wasnt Going to get in their way but well If Silas was going to have some fun then Arthur at least wanted to distract himself with other men and Ethan was a familiar sort of comfort that he could Do with.

Arthur didn’t stick around long for Silas to question him or argue, not that he imagined he would. He slipped out the door and made his way to Ethan’s room, not as easy to find as Silas’ which he was now used to inhabiting but he managed to make it. Out in the halls, the alcohol in his system felt a lot harsher and his head was buzzing more. He needed to distract himself otherwise images of Silas and Leo were going to consume him. He refused to be crippled by his jealousy. So, he soon found himself knocking insistently on Ethan’s door, hoping the other man would be pleased to see him, even with all that had gone on between them.

(Oh him seeing Galehaut could be interesting. What if Galehaut had decided to also stop by Ethan's? Like, I don't think they would be doing anything. But maybe he'd decided to bring Ethan a few snacks he got from the party? Just to add to Arthur's jealousy. )

Things without Arthur had been well... Lonelier. Silas had felt the others gaze from time to time. It had seemed more like a glare then anything else. Leo was friendly company though. Helped to provide a distraction. Though Silas could tell Leo had other intentions underneath. The way he flirted was obvious and the two did have a history. But Silas wasn't sure how far he wanted things to go. Then Arthur was arriving. The man had been drinking, That was obvious. Silas had been too, But no where near as much. His words carried a certain harshness and Silas tensed as he felt Arthur's hands. Leo allowed a small frown to show on his face. Ready to speak up and correct him. But then Arthur was whispering to Silas before leaving. And the way he spoke. Silas didn't like it. A brief feeling of hurt crossed his mind. But also this felt familiar in a way. It felt like a long time ago now. But Silas could recall similar behaviors from Ronan. He'd done such from time to time when he was jealous of some noble Silas was with. The thought had Silas tensing up. A mixture of emotions swirled in his chest. But Leo pulled him out of it. Instead saying. "Hey, Silas. " The man prompted. His voice providing a distraction from his thoughts and Silas was glad to accept such. Looking up to Leo's worried face, Attempting to wipe his own feelings from his own.

---

Meanwhile, Elsewhere. Ethan was in his room. The young man had helped with preparing for the ball. Luckily he though didn't have to worry about the clean up duty, That was a job for someone else. Except then Ethan heard the sound of knocking. Oh no, He briefly worried that it was his father. Hear to fetch him and force him to go and clean up who knows how many dirty dishes. He could recall his father making him do such work often when he was a child. Briefly he considered pretending he wasn't in. But if it was his dad? Well, The man would know doubt have a key to his room. Thus Ethan dragged his feet to the door. Opening it, Only to pause at the sight in front of him.

Arthur. The sight of him wasn't something Ethan had expected. Sure, Things had become better between them. But there was still a certain awkwardness between them. Ethan himself had done his best to avoid Arthur somewhat. A fact he felt bad about. He knew now that things were not Arthur's fault sure. But Ethan's feelings about Arthur were complicated. "Oh, I... Prince Arthur, I wasn't expecting you. " He fumbled threw a response.

Only to pause, Looking at Arthur now. It was clear Arthur was drunk. A sight Ethan wasn't used to. But perhaps it explained why he was here. Leaning against his doorframe and taking in the sight of Arthur. Ethan frowned. "Are you alright? " He looked... Upset, Or perhaps frustrated was a better word for it? But Ethan wasn't sure.

(I’d sort of planned for Arthur to see Galehaut on His own. Although he’s going to be jealous through his own making, just imagining the two are together)

Arthur didn’t want to hurt Silas. Or at least he didn’t think so. He was hurting himself and he knew he only had himself to blame but that didn’t make it any easier. If he knew that Silas was comparing him to Ronan then he’d probably hate it. He’d seen the marks Ronan had left on Silas, inferred a lot about their relationship, he did not want to be in the same bracket as that man. He also knew that he was pushing Silas towards Leo but at this point he figured it was inevitable, that he wouldn’t be able to pull Silas away.

Arthur thought for a moment that Ethan wouldn’t answer, that he’d be left out here alone and maybe it was what he deserved but Ethan was soon opening the door and greeting him. He frowned at the formality of Ethan’s hello. Prince Arthur? He sounded like a servant he’d just met, not the first man he’d ever been with. “Right as rain” Arthur replied, voice a little slurred and grin lazy. It was nice seeing Ethan, he’d missed him and something warm bloomed in him at Ethan’s concern. “Can I not come and see an old friend?” He asked.

Now, Arthur was drunk, and when he was drunk he was sloppier. Luckily the halls seemed empty but he really should watch his words. “You know, I was thinking” Arthur murmured, stepping closer and voice taking on a sultry tone. “We never had breakup or makeup s*x” he breathed, going to press a hand to Ethan’s chest, it was something he’d overhead the knights talk about before and right now he just wanted to feel something over than this aching hurt in his chest. “So….I figured I could tie you down and have a little fun” he finished, flashing Ethan a grin before going in to kiss him. He remembered what Ethan liked, that he’d been rather enthusiastic when Arthur had taken control. He figured it might be nice to be in control of something tonight and to reconnect with someone who might actually cheer him up a bit. He went to kiss him desperately, not quite passionate but certainly hungry, he needed this.

(Yeah, We can def go that route. Ooh Arthur I think is burning a lot of bridges right now. )

Ethan raised his eyebrow at Arthur's words. Shifting uncomfortably. Arthur was definitely drunk. Ethan was about to point that out, Encourage him to go to bed. But then Arthur was getting closer. Despite everything, Ethan would be lying if he said there wasn't some part of himself that missed him. But Arthur's words were crass and Ethan's face soon turning red at the suggestion. Yeah, No. He wasn't interested in such. But before he could reject him, Lips were on his and Ethan froze. quickly turning his face away and moving his hand to push Arthur back. Perhaps not the responds Arthur was hoping for.

Ethan then was hissing. "No, You will not be tying me down, We will not be doing anything. " His arms crossing and looking away from Arthur. This was... Difficult. Ethan didn't know where he stood with Arthur. He still cared for the man of course. But... Ethan then looked to Arthur. Shaking his head. "Arthur, I'm sorry. But things are over between us. " A lot had happened. Ethan wasn't sure if he wanted to rekindle what was between them. Even if he had, It was a matter to be discussed while sober. Not when Arthur was slurring his words.

Ethan then said softly. "I think you should go. " Briefly he considered escorting Arthur back to his room. But Ethan thought such might only cause more problems. No, Best to cut things off here and now. There was plenty of guards stationed in the castle. Arthur would no doubt bump into one of them and they'd take him back to his room.

(Yeah and it’s not like he can really afford to, he doesn’t have many friends)

Arthur hadn’t expected things to be like before, when things had been simpler, easier, but he had at least expected that Ethan would be tempted, that he might still want him as much as he didn’t deserve it. Ethan didn’t even appear to consider it though which stung. His words were soft but the rejection felt harsh and he couldn’t help the way his face twisted or the hurt rising up inside. He already felt emotional in all the wrong ways about Silas and now Ethan was pushing him away! It was a bit too much for him to handle. He really was not used to rejection or relationships in general.

”is this Because of Galehaut?” Arthur asked in a biting voice, not entirely sure where it had come from or where it was going but swept up in the tide of it all. “I’ve seen the way you look at him. You’re together aren’t you? Didn’t take you long to move on then!” He barked with a harsh laugh, the anger and jealousy not truly masking the pain. “Is he in there now? Waiting for you to come back to bed” Which again was unfair, Arthur knew it was his actions which had ended their relationship and Ethan should be free to pursue whoever he wanted. Didn’t make him feel good though. He should be happy for Ethan really, glad he found someone but he was struggling with it.

“No worries though, you’re his problem now” Arthur continued, the alcohol refusing to let him shut his mouth. “I should’ve know actually that you weren’t for me, that I should’ve steered clear of you. You tried to get Aiden killed for goodness sake, I don’t know why I didn’t just walk away then. What kind of person does that?” And it was true that it had angered and shocked Arthur but Ethan’s fear was understandable, and he’d also been his first relationship, it was a lot to deal with at once. “And not even just that! Kay warned me about you, said your family were no good, bad people. I should’ve listened. I don’t even know what skeletons you’re hiding but if you were Willing to kill an innocent man i bet they’re messed up” Gooddness, it felt both satisfying And absolutely horrible to get those off his chest. In his right mind he wouldn’t have been so harsh, so terribly emotional but he did worry about what Kay had told him, had been alarmed by Ethan’s ethics. Perhaps it was for the best that Ethan wasn’t jumping at the bit to rekindle what they’d had.
