Fantasy I Was Fine Until You

Chris might be a bit disgruntled by their words but it seemed to work because Chris was stepping up his game. Lance was ducking as the mace came swinging towards him, hearing and feeling the wind rushing over him, ruffling his hair. He went to jab Chris in the side as he did so and then Christopher was aiming for him again, going for his side and Lance rolled, the mace glancing him but most of the energy not making its way to him and he came up in a crouch, one knee of the ground and the other leg bent, ready to spring up. He was grinning brightly, eyes alight and blood pumping, even letting a laugh fill the air. “That’s more like it” he encouraged.

Lance seemed like he was enjoying himself now and he launched himself forward, cutting high with one axe, aiming towards Chris’ shoulder and going lower with the other, trying to cut across the man’s waist, before going to dance back out of range hopefully. “You’re quicker than you look” he commented, “not by that much though he added and flashed him another grin before going to throw the axe towards him, nothing overly violent, just a little left of his feet, and then moving forward again, with a flurry of feints and slashes before dropping low and attempting to sweep Christopher’s feet out from under him.

Agravain did seem surprised by the force Christopher was able to exert, he might be able to do some serious damage if he was in a real battle and worked on keeping his defences up. Getting tips from Agravain would probably be quite helpful seeing as they were more similar in fighting style, he knew how to compensate for slower moves snd was used to more cumbersome weapons. Gaheris was less interested in the mechanics of the fight and was instead hoping to see Lance knocked out and bleeding, or at the very least with a concussion and several bruises.

Lance seemed to be getting excited now, And one could easily see the passion he carried when it came to combat. Christopher seemed to become a bit more relaxed at the sight. Perhaps more comforted by the fact that he could go all out against Lance. Then, Lance was on the move again. Christopher only just managing to dodge the thrown axe. Before he felt the sting of Lance's other weapon against his side. Luckily it didn't manage to go deep. Still, Christopher was soon struggling to keep up with Lance. To defend against the others blows. Perhaps he should have been paying more attention to Lance's feet though. For he was soon enough on the ground.

Grunting as he hit the dirt. Still gripping his mace. But well... He was quick to decide If he was down, He was bringing Lance down with him. Lance probable was just expecting him to get up and go back to swinging. So, Instead he Kicked at the other. Hoping to knock him down. Before he was putting his legs underneath himself and launched himself forward. Hoping to barrel Lance over. Christopher outweighed Lance. So perhaps if he got ontop of him he could keep him down?

Everyone seemed interested in the fight. They probable all knew Lance would come out the winner. Lance just had far more skill and experience. But Caleb didn't think Christopher was doing too badly. Not as bad as she was expecting anyway. Oh- But trying to tackle Lance? That was a bit of dirty fighting. Which actually amused Caleb. It wasn't uncommon for her to fight tooth and nail- Literally. she'd bitten multiple people before. Though perhaps it wouldn't be considered as noble. Caleb then nearly jumped as she heard Ruth yell from beside her. "C'mon Lance! Kick his *ss! " What? She was supporting her friend!

The bigger they were, the harder they fell, but Christopher wasn’t the largest so his fall didn't seem too painful. Lance moved back a bit as he was kicked by Chris. The fight was soon moving to less graceful grounds though as Chris tackled him and they went tumbling to the ground, Lance however had the audacity to laugh as he was forced into the dirt, which was a little difficult with the air half knocked out of him. “Oh, so that’s how you want to play it?” Lance was no stranger to opponents fighting dirty and he’d wrestled in the dirt before, even if it wasn’t exactly very noble of them.

”well, we wouldn’t want to disappoint the lady now would we?” Lance smirked at Christopher on top of him before he went to hook his legs around the other man and throw them with his hips, trying to flip them over so he was on top, one hand still gripping an axe as he went to press it against Chris’ throat and apply some pressure, the other hand going to grip the axe as well so either hand was on either side of Chris’ neck and fhe handle of the axe pressing into his windpipe. He wasn’t a barbarian, he wasn't going to start raining down punches on the man, not unless Chris started it. Obviously if it was life or death, he might be a bit more violent, but as things were, he didn’t want to do Christopher any real damage.

It was probably a good thing that Galahad was not here to see this because he probably wouldn’t like to spend time around Lance if he saw him doing this. He wouldn’t understand that this was just practice, that they wouldn’t seriously hurt each other. And speaking of not really hurting each other, Gaheris was looking even less pleased. Couldn't Christopher at least knee Lance in the groin or something? He deserved to get hurt, although Lance had tried to sit on Christopher’s stomach and waist area so as to avoid such an injury. That would hardly be a dignified move on Christopher’s side anyway.

Christopher was a bit surprised when he actually knocked Lance down. Sitting ontop of him. Lance's comment actually made a grin form on his face. But it wasn't to last long. Because Lance was soon manuevering. And while it wasn't easy to get Christopher to budge. He did manage it and before Christopher knew it the rolls had changed and he was on his back. Staring up at Lance with the axe near his neck. For a moment he considered continuing. But Christopher very much knew when he was beat and thus dropped his mace. showing his hands in surrender. He then mused. "Alright, Alright, You win. " He informed.

The others knew he had lost as well and maybe it had his cheeks a bit red. He didn't think he'd even landed a hit on Lance. So that was uncomfortable. But Caleb was soon getting to her feet and approaching. Seeming pleased, And was perhaps aware his pride might be a bit hurt. Thus she mused. "Don't worry Christopher. You did pretty good I think. Not many people get Lance on the ground. " She promised. Even if it hadn't lasted long. He hadn't done too bad.

Ruth was also nearing. Seeming excited as she asked. "Are you guys going to go another round? Or like- What about the big guy, I want to see him fight! " She was pestering. Gesturing towards Agravain. Agravain was huge afterall. She could only imagine what a fight with him would look like! Though it would perhaps be safer if Lance wasn't the one to fight him. Things might get too serious if that was the case. And well... It might take some convincing to get Christopher to fight Agravain. But Caleb was then saying. "Thats not a awful idea, Chris, You got some serious weight behind those swings. Agravain could surely help you with that. " Agravain was good at doing heavy hits. If anyone could help Christopher out then it would probable be Agravain.

The outcome of the match was no surprise to anyone but Lance seemed pleased with Christopher’s performance. He jumped up, hooking the axe back on his belt and offered his hand to Chris to help him up. “she’s right, you did well, maybe next time I wont go easy on you” he agreed and teased, smiling proudly at him. “The fact that your willing to change up the playing field is good too, not all fights are clean and not all opponents are noble so it’s wise to be prepared” He moved over to where he’d thrown the other axe to retrieve it and let it join the other axe on his belt. Christopher wasn’t too bad in the end, needed some work sure, but he didn’t seem like a liability.

Lance looked towards Ruth, eyebrow arched in amusement as she seemed very into the sparring. He guessed she hadn’t seen much on the road, just them fearing attacks and her worrying about Gaheris, now she was in a more stable and safe place, she could afford to enjoy herself a bit more. She seemed interested in this fighting and oh…Lance just had an idea. Caleb wanted a girl to be mentored by a high up knight, maybe that could be Ruth? He knew she was a slave and even if she got her freedom, that label might do some harm to how female knights were seen but he couldn’t help but think training in fighting would really help Ruth. He’d shown her a bit, but to be able to defend herself so reliably would be great, and if she did want to become a knight, the rank would benefit her also, and obviously she’d get to spend time with Lance as well. He’d have to see what they thought Ruth might not be interested in becoming a knight herself but she could at least get some more training.

”Agravain would be a good mentor to you” Lance agreed, and glanced towards Agravain who was studying Chris, arms still crossed over his impressively broad chest. Agravain looks like quite a challenge for Chris to take on, muscles flexed without really trying to, stony look on his face and towering height. But, Christopher had just taken on Lance, sure he hadn’t won, but he done well, Lance had confidence he might give Agravain a scratch or two. Lance moved closer to Chris and went to pat him on the back. “Try not to reach so far with your swings, you want to keep your moves closer to your body so you don’t leave yourself open so much. But fighting Agravain you don’t have to worry about speed so much as strength. You’re strong, but don’t try and block him too much, you’re better off moving out of the way and striking whilst his momentum has him busy. You got this” Lance encouraged, another pat to the back before he was moving to join Melodias and Gaheris to watch whilst Agravain moved forward. “We can fight, if you‘re up for it” Agravain told Christopher and well, he had a lot of people expecting another fight so he might not have much chance to say no.

It didn't take long before Lance was off him, And helping Christopher up. Complimenting him even. Which well, Christopher seemed a decent bit embarrassed over. Eyes averted and shifting. Though everyone else seemed filled with energy. Ruth becoming a knight was not a bad idea. She was a scrappy girl. Had been in fights before. Was used to a tough life. Gaheris wouldn't be happy. But that would be his problem. But for now the focus was on Christopher who was.. Well, A bit horrified at the idea of fighting Agravain. Nope, Nope, He didn't want to do this. But he didn't think he was being given much choice. Sure, Agravain seemed to leave room for him to refuse. But Christopher could feel eyes on him. So. Finally nodded. "Yeah. I'm up to it. " He murmured. Picking up his mace. Oh, This couldn't go too badly. Could it?

Caleb was grinning at Christopher. Pausing for a moment to nudge her husband and urge. "Don't be too rough with him. " Before going to return to the others. Ruth following behind her. Returning to the spot she had previously been sitting. Though it seemed Ruth wouldn't be joining her as the girl went to stand beside Lance. Nose wrinkling a bit as she teased. "Your sweaty. " Dog still in her arms. Pausing to scratch the hound on the back of his ears before looking back to Agravain and Christopher.

Christopher didn't feel ready for this. But he was getting himself into position. Studying Agravain for a moment. Before he then said. "Alright, Tell me when your ready. " Agravain might not have exactly been expecting to fight today! But then again, Christopher had a feeling that Agravain was always ready for a good match. Looking Agravain over, Christopher already knew Lance was right. Agravain was a strong man, And Chris was strong too. But he wasn't certain how well he'd do at blocking his strikes. He'd need to keep on the move instead.

Lance grinned at Ruth and nudged her back with his elbow. “I am victorious” he countered. “But, I’ll hold out on giving you a hug until I’m cleaned up” he agreed, going to scratch the dog behind the ears. “You settling in okay?” He asked her quietly. “I’m staying a while too, just for a bit, whilst I wait for Gavin to calm down” he explained. ”but we can hang out, unless you’ve grown tired of me?” She might want to get to know Caleb and Agravain better but Lance could still help with that.

Agravain glanced at Caleb as she chided him but he made no promises as he unsheathed his broadsword. “Your enemy will not always give you the courtesy of preparing yourself” Agravain told him as he gripped his sword, nodded at him and then advanced. Agravain wasn’t the quickest of men, not as nimble as some smaller men, but his long stride meant that he could cover ground quickly so it didn’t take long before Agravain was within striking range and well, his weapon probably had a longer reach than Chris’ mace, although such a large sword was difficult to manoeuvre up close so that was likely Chris’ best bet, then again being that close to Agravain meant being in danger of being grabbed or something.

Agravain went to slash sword upwards, diagonally across Chris’ torso, from his hip to his shoulder and then let the momentum carry his sword down and reversed the energy back into a horizontal strike against the man. Slashes from Agravin could really cleave into a person if they weren’t careful, but it was the pure force behind him slamming down his sword that you had to watch out for and that’s what Agravain went to do, raising his sword high, aware that it left him open a bit, to try and bring it crashing back down. It was a dangerous move to block, would certainly rattle your bones, but also not one that Chris could afford to let him him. At least he didn’t have to watch out for too many moving parts with Agravain, he wouldn’t be able to move as quick as Lance and do a fast move like the leg sweep, but he might still be able to surprise him.

Ruth seemed amused by Lance's words. Yeah, Ruth wasn't too interested in a hug right now! Lance smelled! She though smiled fondly at his question nodding her head. Though seemed to grow more pleased at the news Lance would be staying. He was her friend after all. Thus she soon hummed. "Well... You can be a bit annoying. But I suppose I can set a little time aside to spend with you. " She said playfully. Her gaze drifting down to Wobble who seemed pleased by the extra attention. Licking Lance's hand. Ruth then found herself telling Lance quietly. "I like Agravain and Caleb. They're cool. " And so far? Both had been kind to her. She had been worried much of the journey over what to expect. But now? Things felt good and Ruth was happy.

Looking towards Agravain and Chris. Chris seemed obviously nervous. One couldn't blame him. That sword was huge and Agravain had surely fought plenty far stronger then Chris. Then things were moving and Chris was wise enough to scurry backwards. Narrowly avoiding the first two strikes by a hair. Though he could tell the strength behind those hits and knew things could very easily take a deadly turn. He couldn't just continue to keep backing up. He had to actually hit. When Agravain lifted his blade? Chris took the opening.

Attempting to move sideways as to dodge the blow. As he swung his mace low. Attempting to go for Agravain's leg or knee. Sadly, Chris was misjudging his own speed. He could feel the blade go into his shoulder. Though he couldn't tell exactly how deep it was as he scrambled away. A grunt coming from him. But the pain had yet to set in. Probable from the adrenaline. Whatever the case. Christopher was moving in again. Attempting to close the distance between him and Agravain. Swinging his mace high this time.
Watching. Caleb couldn't help but wince as she saw the blade dig in. Chris was still moving. So the damage couldn't be too bad. But she could already see red staining his shirt and shot a brief glance towards Lance. Before her attention returned to the fight.

“ oh how kind of you” Lance chuckled, “I’m glad you think so, but if you ever have any worries or troubles, you can always come to me” If she decided that Agravain was scary or that Gaheris was still not backing off, Lance would have to see if he could do anything more to help her. He focused On the fight though as things got dicey and he felt Caleb’s eyes on him. He frowned slightly as he saw the cut and the red on Chris’ shoulder, that looked painful, and he knew people did get injuries in sparring, but they didn’t want Chris too battered. He didn’t step in yet though, Agravain should maybe reign himself in a bit though, then again it had been a while since he’d sparred at the house so Maybe he had a lot of pent up energy he was getting out.

Agravain got a hit in, but he wasn’t the only one, he grunted as Chris’ mace made contact with his leg, and he might be bleeding too, at the very least would have a nasty bruise. Luckily it didn’t pulverise his leg. Two large men fighting could be a lot rougher than other fights, able to do more damage and receive more damage before falling. Agravain wasn’t planning to let Chris get off another hit like that though and he moved his sword up to intercept the high swing, pushing down and against him in the hood of wrenching Chris’ arm a bit, maybe even disarming him if he could get enough force behind it. And Agravain moved forward with his sword too, putting his weight behind the shove of his sword.

Agravain continued his offensive though as he went to draw his blade back and then thrust it towards Chris’ side, to stab him rather than slash him, and it was nice of Agravain not to aim for the centre of Chris’ body otherwise he might’ve skewered him, but no, he wasn’t trying to kill the other man for the moment. Although, that might change in the future if Chris started snitching on him or getting in his way.

Just getting a hit on Agravain was something some would consider a victory. But Christopher didn't get much time to celebrate. He soon felt like he was wrestling a bit to keep his mace. But Christopher managed to keep himself together. Sort of, Because Agravain was soon launching another attack and Chris didn't have time to properly block. Just ty and sidestep it. Still, The sword managed to nick his side. Wonderful, Another injury it seemed. But Christopher took the chance to keep moving. Attempting to manuever himself quickly around Agravain. Get behind him maybe. Wishing for a moment he was as quick as Caleb or Lance.

He didn't wait. Aiming to slam the mace into Agravain's back or side. Whatever was closer. Then he was moving backwards. Hoping to avoid whatever attack Agravain would no doubt send his way next.
Caleb was keeping a close eye on things though. Christopher's shoulder did not look good. She could see the blood trailing down his arm and they'd need to patch that up. She could hear Melodias behind her walking back inside. Probable going to fetch a first aid kit. But... Agravain had also received a hit to the leg. And she hoped nothing had been damaged too much. They were both tough boys though. They could take it!

Still, Caleb then murmured to Lance. "If Christopher gets another hit on him, We should cut things off. He's not looking great. " They didn't want anyone getting seriously injured. This was training after all. Not a real fight. Her gaze then flickered over Agravain and Christopher before informing Lance. "All things considered, I don't think he's doing too badly. " Agravain was certainly going to feel that hit Christopher had left for a good few days!

This spar was getting a bit bloody but that wasn't surprising considering it was Agravain and Chris had hardly picked a weapon which wouldn't deal a lot of damage, any hit from mace would be quite significant. Agravain grimaced as the mace went into his side, if they'd been properly fighting, that might've broken his rib or something, still probably bruised them. At least he could get Caleb to patch him up! And his injuries might stop him from sparring more for a little while. Chris was moving back but Agravain was moving towards him, bringing his sword with him and bringing it up for another massive sweep across Chris' body.

Lance couldn't help but agree with Caleb, things were getting a bit out of hand and he didn't want to see any more damage done. Maybe it wasn't the wisest for Lance to step in though, incase Agravain turned on him, but it probably wasn't safe for Caleb either, just in case she got in the way, and besides with Caleb about, Agravain probably would reign himself in a bit.

"It helps that Agravain is slow" Lance murmured "and he needs to work on his defence but you're right, he's got potential" To take on Agravain, after already having fought one battle and getting off so serious hits was no small feat so Lance was quiet happy with Christopher. He stepped forward towards the men, hands held out placating "good work, why don't we get you patched up and we can talk" Lance suggested, they could go over what he could improve, where he went wrong and what his strengths were, or they could talk about love lives like Lance had suggested before. Agravain had his sword hefted as Lance approached and his eyes glinted dangerously as the man approached, as if he thought about it for a moment and Lance didn't miss the look either, but soon Agravain was sheathing his sword and walking back over to his wife and brother. Gaheris by the way looked pretty disappointed in the results of that, Agravain should've pulverised Chris and at least punched Lance but he understood that his brother had married a traitor so he wasn't overly surprised.

Chris was struggling to get out of Agravain's reach when the sword was once again coming down on him. Scrambling away and barely avoiding being sliced. Perhaps not the best place to be. His weapon ment he needed to be closer towards Agravain and he knew that. Was ready to step back in. But then Lance was speaking up. At first he didn't register it. Too focused on Agravain. But then his gaze was flickering towards Lance. Lowering his mace and relief was obvious on his face. Nodding his head. Lance wasn't the only one to get up. Caleb was standing and going to meet her husband. Amusement on her face as she mused. "I almost forgot how handsome you are when swinging a sword. " Leaning up to give him a small kiss on the cheek.

She then was looking past him and moving towards Christopher and Lance. Wincing a bit as she was finally able to get a good look at the injury. Yeah. His shoulder was sliced badly. Christopher seemed not to have a chance to notice it. The pain yet to set in. Moving towards the group. Caleb then told him. "C'mon. You go sit down. " She urged and she could already tell Christopher was tired. Nodding his head. He then was moving past them towards the porch. Just in time as Melodias was returning with the first aid kit.

Caleb then murmured quietly to Lance. "He's so going to need stitches. " Luckily everyone here probable had some experience with such injuries. They'd have him patched up soon enough. Turning around. Caleb headed back towards her husbands side. Melodias seemed for the moment more focused on Christopher. His injury was pretty bad. Caleb though decided it best to leave that matter to Melodias and Lance. Instead going to check on Agravain. Returning to his side and glancing down. "Hows your leg? He didn't get you too bad? Did he? " She'd seen that hit and that surely had hurt. She was almost certain he'd be feeling that hit for a while.

Agravain graciously accepted the kiss from his wife and looked down at her as she complimented him. He watched her talk to Lance before she was fussing over him. “Nothing I can’t handle” Agravain rebuffed. “I’m fine, you should see the other guy” he joked, moving with her to join the others and yeah his leg did hurt but he could take it, he wasn’t a weakling, and he wasn’t old, a day or two and he’d be right as rain, but yeah it’d probably ache for the rest of the day, being slammed into by a mace did that to you. Still, he wouldn't say he’d been beaten, and he’d certainly shown Christopher that he wasn’t to be trifled with. “I’m glad you enjoyed it, maybe you’ll let me train around the house now, hmm?” He suggested although he wasn’t sure she was that willing, might be best to keep him rusty in case he tried anything with Lance.

Lance was walking with Christopher, and any thoughts about patting his shoulder in encouragement were discarded because that cut was nasty. Caleb had assessed correctly that he’d need stitches. “You did well” Lance complimented. “Agravain might be limping for a day or two” he murmured with slight amusement and it wasn’t that he wanted the man to get hurt but it was refreshing to see him injured by a relatively green knight. Chris had given as good as he got almost. “Your offence wasn’t bad, but you definitely need to work on your defence and dodging” Lance surmised, “but, don’t worry about that for now, rest and we’ll get you patched up and maybe see if there’s anything sweet in the kitchens to treat ourselves” he grinned at him, he couldn’t help but feel a cake would really add to the day.

”what did you think Melodias?” Lance asked. “He’s not bad huh? Could be a great knight one day?” He raised an eyebrow inquiringly. And he was also curious on the man’s thoughts beyond Chris. “What about Agravain and me? Live up to our reputations or need work?” He’d like to think the man had enjoyed the show and thought they were good fighters. He didn’t need Melodias’ approval but it’d be nice and any advice he could give would only help them. The old man, and he meant that affectionately, looked like he still had some fight in him, was still a formidable foe and Lance wouldn’t mind testing those waters at some point, see if Caleb shared any of her fighting style with her father and also to see where they differed because they were clearly different body types.

Caleb couldn't help but smirk at Agravain. Shaking her head and musing. "Hmm... Maybe, I'll need to think about it. It is exciting to watch you fight. " Something about the blood was thrilling and Caleb for a moment she was tempted to drag him off somewhere. For some alone time. But she'd save that for later. Best not to abandon Chris right now. Her gaze then flickered forward and she soon took note of Gaheris. He had recently been appointed a knight and well... Caleb was tempted to see how well he could handle himself. But she didn't think Agravain or Chris would be up for another round. Maybe Lance? No... Gaheris had too much anger towards him. Melodias was a option, But she decided to keep her mouth shut. Best to wait until he finished with Chris and then ask. Didn't want Gaheris getting his hopes up.

Leaving Agravain limping was no small feat, And maybe Christopher allowed him a brief moment to feel victory over that. A small grin forming on his face. But he was soon wincing as the pain in his shoulder set in. But Christopher decided to avoid looking at the injury as he flopped down onto a seat on the porch. He knew the wound was bad. Looking at it would just freak him out. "Do you think they have any wine we can borrow? " He mused. Getting drunk seemed like it would be nice. Though they might not have anything considering Caleb's pregnancy. It was then Melodias was moving closer. Examining the wound for a moment.

He glanced towards Lance as he was spoken to. Before musing. "He's certainly got potential. But he also... Hesitates too much. Needs more confidence. " Christopher reeked of uncertainty. Though Melodias supposed that might go away as he gained more experience. Then Lance was asking about himself and Melodias seemed amused by that. "Everyone needs work. But... Your certainly not someone I'd like to fight. " He told Lance. Anyone could see Lance's skill. Lance hadn't even been using a weapon he seemed to be used too. On the other hand. He then told Lance. "Agravain though, Needs to get back to practicing. You could tell its been a while since he's sparred much. " And ow, Melodias wasn't being quiet. So Agravain probable had heard that. But then again. Melodias was not attempting to hide his words. It felt like it needed to be said. He was then going to carefully start stitching up Christopher's wound. The young man wincing and looking away. Melodias then asked Christopher curiously. "How long have you been a full fledged knight? " Perhaps as a way to distract him. Or maybe just to further gauge his skill level. Christopher then was confessing. "Two years."

Lance laughed softly. “I’ll ask” he promised Christopher, some alcohol might do well to take away the sting of his injuries. Lance took a seat near Christopher, watching Melodias work on the wound, he would’ve offered to do it but Melodias seemed happy to do so himself. Ah yes, Christopher did need a bit of encouragement to get going, that had been evident in how he’d first held himself back but once he’d started to fight properly, it had been a decent display. Lance, on the other hand, needed no encouragement and if anything was a little too confident but he smiled at Melodias’ praise, preening as he was deemed a dangerous adversary. Melodias was hardly singing compliments to him, but maybe he should be wary when praising Lance, they didn’t need it going to his head. Lance could imagine his own father now, shaking his head and sighing at Lance’s pride, he’d always been a showman and a showoff, they really needed to work on his modesty.

Agravain was out of practice, worried with the baby and spending time around his brother and Caleb rather than with the other knights so it was no surprise he needed to brush up on his skills, Lance was not going to be the one to practice with him though. Gaheris could though, but he might not be able to keep up, he couldn’t match his brother’s strength, or his skill for that matter. Agravain did overhear the comment, and he wasn’t particularly hurt by it, he knew he needed to practice more, Chris should’ve had a harder time hitting him but he still grumbled a little under his breath. It was nicer criticism than he might’ve got from other older knights though, Loth wouldn’t have even bothered to offer advice, or if he had said something, would’ve mocked him but he was dead now…so, who really got the last laugh there?

”who was your mentor?” Lance asked curiously. “Are you the first of your family to be a knight?” He asked, he didn’t recall knowing of Any knightly siblings of Chris but he could be wrong. “I’m very much aware that being a knight is a family affair. I mean, look at me, Agravain, even Caleb! It can be a hard field to break into, an expensive one too if you don’t have family already in it.“ At least if you had a brother or father as a knight, they could train you for free. “I think my father actually couldn’t wait to get rid of me being his squire” he admitted. “I’ll admit I’m a bit of a show off and it didn’t help that I was going through puberty. Oh man, the displays I used to put on for girls. I guess not much has changed, but now I don’t have my father dragging me away by my ear” he grinned.

Christopher seemed a bit startled by the question. Before telling Lance. "Ah, A family friend named Michael. " No one famous. Christopher then confessed to Lance. "I have a few distant relatives who are knights. But thats it. I mean, My families well off. But they aren't nobility or anything. " They were wealthy. Had plenty of land. But no titles or anything. Christopher then expressed. "My parents had me sent off when I was like six to become a page. " He really had more memories of being apprenticed under Michael then he did of being around his parents. Christopher though did continue. "I believe my parents are planning to arrange for one of my little siblings to be taken up as a squire. They haven't found a good mentor for him yet though. " Perhaps Christopher was a option. But Christopher was also young. Had not gone on any missions of his own yet and would not be ready to take on a apprentice.

It was really no surprise Lance had been wild, And Melodias seemed amused by him. Melodias then pointed out to Lance. "I believe thats the case for most squires. " Showing off in front of girls was common. Melodias wasn't going to go into his own history. But it had been very similar when he was young. Christopher though was looking a bit awkward at the subject. Especially when Caleb, Who'd of course been listening in decided to put in. "Lance, You know, You probable should help Christopher out, He's apparently has a thing for some noble girl. " Oh, That was probable going to be like blood in the water for a shark. Caleb knew Lance was likely going to jump on that.

Chris was quickly expressing. "I do not need help with something like that. Besides, I'm not interested in anything at the moment. " He said, Hopeful that taking a serious tone would shut things down quickly. But judging by that predatory smile Caleb was sending him? He wasn't sure it had worked. Luckily he was given more of a chance to run as Melodias finally finished with his stitching. Melodias soon standing up and moving away as to go wash his hands. Leaving Chris there to continue. "And If I was interested, I have plenty of experience with women. " He tried, Though he could very much see disbelief on Caleb's face. Okay, So maybe he hadn't had any experience with women. But it could be that hard. Besides, His words were true. There weren't any girls he was interested in.

Lance couldn’t really imagine being sent away from your family and training under someone else, but he knew that was a reality for many knights. Still, he was grateful for his father and how much he’d taught him, and put up with. It couldn’t have been easy for Antonio, training a headstrong and cocksure young man whilst also travelling great distances, Lance didn’t think he’d be capable of the same thing. But, Lance was different from Chris yet again in that he had no siblings and as such, he’d always had his father’s full attention which hadn’t always felt like a good thing, especially when he was trying to sneak off with some girl,

Lance grinned wickedly at Melodias as he seemed to relate, oh Caleb’s father seemed fun. Caleb was soon waving a red flag at a bulk though and Lance snapped his attention back to Chris at the mention of a girl. “Oh, do I know her?” He asked. She was a noble girl according to Caleb so he guessed he might, but perhaps more by reputation than friendship. He was arching an eyebrow though as Chris refused help and denied that he even had his eye on someone. Well, that had never stopped anyone from continuing their pestering and he was sure no one believed Chris anyway. Lance was maybe a bit mean, if unintentionally, because he laughed when Christopher claimed to have experience. “yes, and Agravain is 2 feet tall” Lance replied sarcastically, clearly not believing him. Not that Lance was trying to embarrass him or anything but he knew about the knights‘ love lives and Chris did not join in the chatter about women, or if he did, it was not believable or accurate.

”you should just spit it out already” Agravain grumbled, as he too took a seat near the pair. “You’re making it a much bigger deal than it needs to be, if you had said from the beginning, we would’ve moved on by now” but no, everyone was wrapped up in the mystery. “Besides, I don’t think I can deal with Lance’s incessant pestering” he growled because of course Lance wouldn’t drop it. Lance ignored the glare that Agravain sent his way and instead nodded: “I just want to help. You might not want anything at the moment but sometimes these things just happen to you” yeah like that kiss with Gavin. “I’m sure you’ll feel better once you talk it out” and he leaned closed expectantly. Oh, poor Chris, no pressure.

Lance already seemed invested in this gossip. No surprise there. Christopher frankly wasn't sure if it was something Lance would let go. Hey! Christopher was great with women! Maybe... Probable.. He just had never really tried. But he could totally woo a girl! thank you very much. Oh, Then Agravain just had to join the conversation and Christopher couldn't help the way his cheeks reddened. Looking up towards the sky briefly. A small prayer for strength. Christopher himself wasn't sure how long he'd be able to deal with the pestering either. Finally turning to look at Lance. "Okay, They are... None of your business." He informed. Gently pushing Lance away.

Christopher then mumured quietly, More to himself then anyone else. "Its not like that anyway... They just... " Trailing off, Gaze briefly flickering towards Agravain. Before he then decided to turn the conversation. Looking at Lance and pointing out. "What about you though? Weren't you talking about someone being bad for you or something? " Seemed he figured he'd put the spot light on Lance. Though the group might not find such that interesting a subject. Lance was a romantic after all.

Caleb though... She did recall Lance and hers earlier conversation. Wondered briefly if Chris was referring to the same relationship. If such was the case. Thus, Caleb figured it might be a good idea to try and change the subject a bit. So instead she was speaking up. "I doubt Lance is going to have too much time to chase girls what with looking after Galahad. Plus, Your going to be basically a uncle soon." She teased. Though Agravain might not be pleased with Caleb considering Lance the kids uncle. Lance might not be the only one who wanted a subject change. For Chris was soon to jump at the subject. Soon asking. "So uh- Speaking of your kid. Have you two decided a name yet? "

Oh, his cheeks were red, perhaps they were embarrassing him, but Lance couldn’t help his interest. He was trying to shut Lance down again and he pouted as Christopher refused to even hint at who they were. He just wanted to help, he could give Chris some tips or be his wing man! But he couldn’t do that if he didn’t know who Chris had his eye on. And he was even seemingly looking to Agravain for help who just raised an eyebrow at him but didn’t say anything. Chris had heard The way the men spoke about their exploits, admitting who he had a crush on was nothing in comparison to what they’d heard, but no, he was swiftly changing the subject.

Lance would like to talk about Gavin, wondered if he’d imagined it, but no that had definitely happened because he still felt off kilter just thinking about it but he wasn’t sure he should really say anything, it was probably a one time thing just because they’d been caught up in emotion, he was touch starved and lonely and she was probably still hurting and lonely from her husband’s death. Besides, he didn’t really want to bring it up with Agravain about, that wouldn’t go down well at all. Caleb was saving him though and he sent her a small smile in return.

ah yes, this kid that Caleb probably couldn't wait to get out of her and that Agravain couldn’t wait to see. Agravain did seem a bit annoyed at Lance being called an uncle but it was a conversation he’d had with her before and he wasn’t going to hash it out now with an audience. “For a girl, we liked Gwyn” he explained, for obvious reasons it had significance to the name, or he was happy with a variation of the name, as painful as it was. “I like Grant for a boy” Agravain admitted, because of course he was sticking with the G theme and Lance couldn’t help but roll his eyes slightly at that. “Assuming neither of those names get taken by the queen” he mused but he doubted that’s happen, no, Morgan was more likely to ruin them for him and name her new kid one. But a Caleb might have her own ideas about names for a boy. “Not Agravain junior then? Or Agravain the second?” Lance asked, seemingly amused, well his own kid was named after him but he hadn’t chosen his name. “How about Melody for a girl if not” Lance suggested with a shrug. It might be wise not to name their child after Agravain’s dead sister so soon after she’d died because well, he just knew Gaheris was going to hate it. And well, at least with Melody, they’d be paying tribute to Melodias, not that he was dead, but still showing respect, and it was cute But Agravain probably didn’t want any name Lance picked for their kid.

Really, It would probable be a bit difficult to get Agravain to budge from a G themed name. Hopefully things would not get too confusing. Gwyn seemed to be the couples top choice though. Grant also was a nice option. Caleb couldn't help but snicker at Lance's next words. Yet he did keep talking and made a nice suggestion. Melody was a pretty name. Before musing. "I like Melody, I'll definitely add it too the maybe list. " Though Caleb figured Agravain would not be as keen on the name. Her father might like having a kid named after himself though!

Ruth was also listening in and well.. One could tell it was a subject she was interested in. So she then told them. "Gwyn was your sister? Right? Maybe, Instead of that being there first name. It could be a middle name. Still honor her. But its not so... " Ruth didn't know how to phrase what she ment. But she was sure it might be a bit difficult for the siblings to have a new baby named Gwyn around. Just having it be a middle name might be a bit easier.

Ruth then was grinning. "So... Will you guys be raising your kid to be a knight too? If its a girl? " It seemed to be in the couples blood. They both could probable throw someone out a window if they wanted too. The question seemed to amuse Caleb who said. "Depends if they'd want to learn. " She wouldn't force it on her kid. But if they were interested? She'd love to teach her kid to be a knight. Caleb though shook her head and told Ruth. "But its gonna be a while before we have to worry about that. " Still, She imagined Agravain would adore training there kid. Was probable hoping they'd want to be a knight.

Lance smiled, pleased that Caleb liked the name although he knew it would be an uphill battle for Agravain to accept such a suggestion. Maybe he should seriously consider it though because Gaheris was currently looking like a storm cloud. His lip curled in disagreement at the thought of a niece named that, even Ruth who barely knew them thought it was a precarious choice. No one really wanted to come out and say that they thought naming the baby Gwyn was a bad idea because Agravain wouldn’t take it well but a lot of people certainly thought it. What would Gawain think? Would he think it was an honourable tribute or a painful reminder?

Agravain looked like he was about to thunder, very briefly, as Ruth suggested they shouldn’t name the baby after his sister but she was suggesting it as a middle name instead which….wasn’t a bad idea. Might be easier to think of names too if only the middle names were Gs, assuming they might have another kid as well one day. He knew it’d make things a lot easier on Gaheris so he’d definitely consider it. “I’d like our child to follow in our footsteps” Agravain admitted, it really was in their blood, Loth and Melodias, him and Caleb, Agravain’s siblings, even through Morgan and Alexander and their father and other siblings and nieces and nephews. Plus, it was what they spent most of their time doing, it’d be nice to share something like that with their child.

“with two knights as parents I think it’s very likely” Lance said. “When I was little, I looked up to my father and wanted to be just like him. We used to play as knights when we were kids, now look at me. And that was just one parent. I think your child might be inspired what with their mother being a knight” Caleb was somewhat of a unique story that would help pave the way for others hopefully, he was sure a child would find that incredible and want to be just like her.

Gaheris was less happy when talking about the future though. “If you’re gonna train this b*stard child of yours then maybe you should name it Gwen. At least then she might be able to defend herself, rather than die helpless, waiting for you to come. But of course that’s all you want really isn’t it, a do over” He spat, standing up. Lance’s smile smoothed into a grim line, concern in his eyes for Gaheris. He hadn’t gotten on well with him on the journey back, but he was clearly hurting and he knew he’d been through a lot. “You know that’s not what it’s like” Agravain replied, eyes narrowing slightly at his brother, did Gaheris really have to make a scene right now? Of course he did, he loved an audience that boy, didn’t he! “I don’t know that, i don't even know you anymore” Gaheris accused, and the hurt was making his voice a bit raw but he wasn’t going to stick around long enough for people to hear it much more because he was turning to storm back into the house, heading towards Gareth’s room. His big brother was no comfort but maybe his little brother could be.

Caleb figured Lance was right, Caleb certainly knew she'd spent much of her childhood looking up to her father. Wanting to be just like him. It would be likely their baby would be very much the same. Not everyone was happy though. Gaheris had been quiet for a good while but when he did finally speak. Well, It made Caleb tense a bit. Frowning. But she bit her tongue. Deciding that perhaps this was a matter better handled by Agravain. Except. Gaheris wasn't sticking around long to talk. No, He was leaving and things were soon going quiet once he was gone, Caleb thus found herself glancing towards Agravain. "...Maybe you should go talk to him? " She urged. Tone uncertain.

Ruth though had moved to her feet. As if considering following after Gaheris. Comfort him. But well... Gaheris was someone that could be rather dangerous and she was uncertain how well that would go. Sometimes things between them seemed almost like they were friends. Other times though? He was a nightmare. So her hesitation was understandable. Still, She then murmured. "I could check on him? " She offered. If everyone knew where she was. She should be safe. They'd be listening for things to go wrong.

Meanwhile, Gareth of course was still in his room. Awake and a bit frustrated. Gareth's sight had not recovered. He could see, Just not well. Was currently trying to read a book. Which today had not been going to well for him and he had not gotten very far. But he was still trying. He was so distracted by the words on the page that when the sound of the door opening occurred. It very much took him by surprise. Made him jump a bit. Eye flickering up and squinting a bit. Oh- He recognized that figure. Gaheris. Judging by the way he'd opened the door. Gareth was already assuming Gaheris wasn't in a good mood. But that was normal for Gaheris. So, Gareth didn't wait. Murmuring. "What happened? " Glancing down at the book and irritated by his lack of progress closed the book.

Gaheris left them with an awkward tension and Agravain didn’t look eager to follow his brother despite Caleb’s suggestion. He did love Gaheris but couldn’t he see he wasn’t the only one hurt by Gwen’s death and Agravain was feeling rather ostracised from his family what with Gaheris’ anger and Gavin thinking he’d betrayed them. “he won’t talk to me” Agravain said, he’d been around a sulking enough to know he needed time to cool down before he could even broach the subject with him, and if they were being honest? This was way more Gawain’s territory, Agravain was not used to chasing his brother’s about such problems. The fact that Ruth got up though was a little surprising. Lance looked at her a little worriedly but she wouldn’t be far and she might have a gentler touch than Agravain. “Call if you need us” he insisted, he was sure they’d hear anything, and if she was gone long anyway they could always go and check on them.

Gaheris had been prepared to fume for a while, maybe pace back and forth a bit, huff and mutter, but Gareth was talking to him and he tilted his head to look at his brother before laughing a little in harsh amusement: oh Gareth did know him well. “Agravain’s just talking about replacing us is all. He’s ready to move on with that traitor and that kid which probably isn’t even his, and just forget about us. He wants to erase Gwen’s memory with that stupid baby” He explained angrily. “You know, today was supposed to be a good day. I’m finally a knight! A knight! And I can’t even enjoy it because Agravain doesn’t even want To celebrate with me, he doesn’t care about us anymore”

Gaheris paced a little before going to sit on the edge of the bed by Gareth. “You know, it’s sort of funny that I’ve all got left is you” he admitted. “At least I know you’re not going to leave me” of course there was Gavin but she was at the castle and technically under house arrest so it wasn’t the same and she’d never been as close with him as the others, married off and living away from them. He reached a gentle hand out, hesitating slightly before he rested it on Gareth’s leg. “We’re on our own here. Even Gavin doesn’t trust Agravain any more. As soon as the baby comes, he’s not going to be visiting you. I’m not sure it’s a good idea for us to stay here” he confessed. “Gavin said she’d see about finding us a property, getting us away from him. I agree. We can only rely on each other Gareth” he breathed and he seemed almost apologetic, that it had come to this and that they were so alone and isolated, he really was sorry.

Seemed Gareth was right and something had happened. It didn't take long before Gaheris was spilling everything. Ah, He still seemed to be upset with Agravain. No surprise there. Though perhaps he was a bit surprised that Agravain hadn't taken Gaheris somewhere to celebrate. But... Agravain might be waiting until Gawain returned for such things. Frankly, Gaheris shouldn't have been knighted until Gawain's arrival! Their brother would have wanted to be there. But... Gaheris was feeling alone it seemed and Gareth forced himself to sit up straighter. Though it was a bit difficult. Gavin was getting Gaheris some property? That.. Didn't sound good, Gaheris seemed to be feeling very much alone. That would only isolate them further aand would cause more issues.

Gareth thus sighed. "Gaheris... Agravain loves us. " He started, Though he figured Gaheris would argue with that. He was ready to continue. To further try and explain things. But then he heard a knock. Then the door was opening and he did not recognize that figure. Ruth, Gareth had not been given a chance to meet her. So perhaps confusion showed on his face. But Ruth only spared Gareth a glance. Hesitantly closing the door behind her and looking at Gaheris. "...Hey. " She started. Gaheris wasn't happy. She could tell and for a brief moment she considered leaving. Going back to Lance's side. But in the end she stayed where she was. Leaning against the door.

"You okay? " She murmured. Though she figured she knew the answer. Gareth though was even more confused. Who was this? Since when did Gaheris have any friends. A girl too, Who seemed to be close to Gaheris's age? Gareth couldn't help but ask. "You didn't tell me you had a girlfriend? " What? It seemed a valid thing to jump too. Ruth certainly seemed amused by the suggestion. Shaking her head. Before she then told Gareth. "No, I'm just his... Friend?" Her tone questioning. Because really. She wasn't sure where she stood with Gaheris. But luckily Gareth didn't seem to pester further. So Ruth focused fully on Gaheris.

Gareth was a voice of reason but not really one that Gaheris planned on listening to. He wasn’t here to be told he was wrong, he just wanted someone he could complain too really. He looked towards the door as there was a knock and he expected Agravain to come and shout at him, tell him off for making a scene or tell him he was stupid for thinking what he did, but Agravain probably wouldn’t have knocked. No, instead it was Ruth and he sighed at the sight of her. Gareth obviously didn’t know who she was though but they were soon conversing.

Gaheris just stared at her as she talked. What was she doing here? She was concerned about him? Why! He had not been nice to her, wasn’t nice to her, and yet She’d come to check on him, and this wasn’t even the first time she’d done that, and at risk to her own safety as well. He was starting to think she was extremely stupid. He neither confirmed nor denied they were friends, although they were certainly something. “I’m fine” he muttered. “what are you doing here? Did Agravain send you?” And he turned to Gareth then “See, he doesn’t even care enough to come himself” and well, he didnt want to be tag teamed by the pair of them so he was moving things along.

”Gareth, this is Ruth. Ruth, my baby brother Gareth” he introduced although he was sure she’d probably heard about him, if not from Agravain, Caleb or the servants here then on the trip here from Lance or the other knights. “I’m sure you’ll both get on, you’re both annoying in similar ways” Yeah, always disagreeing with him and trying to be all righteous. “She’s probably the one Agravain will send to look after you once this baby comes and he stops showing up. No point flirting with her like all your other little friends either, she’s frigid” he added, maybe he was trying to push her away, maybe He didn’t want to be comforted, and he wasn’t sure he wanted Ruth to be friends with Gareth because then Gareth wouldn’t need him. He’d be even more alone.
