Ever since childhood, Michael strove for excellence. Being the youngest of four children in a competitive household helped to foster that mentality, which carried over into all aspects of his life. It began in high school, where he often tried out for sports just to prove his worth or insisted on participating in various scholastic clubs despite his average grades and apparent lack of academic prowess. Nevertheless, his tenacity paid off when he happened to meet his future wife, Catherine Carlisle, through one such endeavor. She was the 'popular girl' in class, and not the type to notice someone of Mike's status. And yet, the unlikely duo found themselves paired together as partners on a project, which ultimately led to them becoming high school sweethearts. The two would later marry and have one child together, Amelia.

As soon as he finished high school, Mike applied the same determination he used throughout his childhood to pursue a career in law enforcement. He served several years as a patrol officer before eventually becoming the Police Chief of the local precinct. It was a relatively carefree job due to the town's low crime rate, though he still took great pride in his work, often to the detriment of his personal life. When he's on a case, it's not uncommon for Mike to stay at the station long into the night or to even bring his work home with him. No doubt, Cathy and Amy have noticed, but he still tries to find the right balance to keep the peace at home. Despite his compulsion to work excessively, he loves his family very much.

Due to the fact that James had his first child so young, he is very close to his children and doesn’t care much for overly strict rules so long as danger isn't involved, not to say that he isn't sensible. He’s known among his son’s friends as the “fun dad” who you can come to with just about anything. The same amounts with his teaching career - at school, James is known as the cool and understanding teacher that students therefore respect.

He's sometimes slightly underestimated in middle class areas due to his Southern accent that refuses to go away but he doesn't care what anybody thinks as long as his children aren't brought into it. When the kids are away he likes to go for a jog or do some other outdoors activity such as camping and volunteer dog walking, that is unless he feels like staying in watching movies. Aside from being a hell of a good writer, James' hidden skill is cooking which he mastered over the years through trying to prove his competence as a father to Charlie and Violet's grandparents.

  James had a humble upbringing in Tennesee, living with his single mother who always seemed to have a different boyfriend depending on the month - granted, some were a lot worse than others. One of them, named Ricky Jenkins, seemed to be different from the rest and made an effort with James, unlike the rest who would have preferred it if he didn’t exist. At age thirteen, Ricky took James and his mother travelling across the country. It was James’ first time leaving the state, and it was also the first time he experienced love, meeting a girl his age called Sophie who would become his first soulmate. The holiday came to an abrupt end when Ricky accused James’ mother of cheating and sent them both back to Tennessee, but this wasn’t enough to separate Sophie and James - they would become penpals - entirely enamoured with each other - writing to each other every single day and longing for the next time they’d be able to see each other.
  
  The next time would come after three years of long-distance dating when they were both sixteen and James used his sixteenth birthday money to come see her again. Things were just as they had been when they first met - absolutely perfect. This was unsurprising because they’d spoken almost every day since that first day they met. It did however, come as a great surprise to the both of them to six months later find out that Sophie was pregnant. Upon hearing the news, James dropped out of school and started working so that Sophie would be able to continue her education. They wanted to build a good life for their baby, and James swore to himself that he would never let his own child end up going through what he did growing up in an unstable home. Granted, Sophie’s family didn’t like him all that much for effectively ‘ruining her life’, but after seeing James’ true intentions they agreed to let him move in until they were both able to get their own place with little Charlie, their adorable newborn son.
  
  This time came when Charlie was three, and with the money James had made from working multiple jobs as well as with little assistance from Sophie’s parents they were able to get their first place together and get married at nineteen. It was a small house, but with love, they made it into a home. After Sophie graduated from college, they both worked tirelessly to provide for their family, eventually climbing up the ranks and getting a house in a nice suburban neighbourhood where Sophie would work as a college professor and James would work as an upcoming novellist which had been his dream for a long time. Eventually, the two would welcome their second child, Violet, a beautiful girl who somehow resembled Sophie even more than Charlie did. Unfortunately, the family’s happiness would only last a few more years as one day Sophie never returned home from work. They said it had been a car accident - nothing more, nothing less.
  
  Before he knew it, James had lost his wife and his biggest fear had come true. Not only was he without the mother of his children for the first time in years, but now Charlie and Violet were to grow up without one of their parents. The tragic loss of Sophie only strengthened the already deep bond between James and his kids. They were there for each other on the good days and the bad. James did have to give up his dream as a professional author in order to keep his family in the home that they all loved, taking a teaching apprenticeship in a local school. Still in the same house - 12 Crescent Court - James now works as a full time English teacher.   Estella is the youngest of five children born to the Vitelli family and the only girl. Her birth was particularly joyous to her parents, who were starting to believe they couldn't have girls. Consequently, Estella was given anything she wanted throughout her life. She was a premature baby, which made this tendency to smother her all the worse, and the fact that the Vitelli's were always well-off financially certainly did not help.
  
  They have only moved into Crescent Court a few months ago, wanting a break from living in bustling cities.     He was adopted by the Lyntons at the age of nine - they weren't his first adoptive family but he hopes he gets to stay with them forever. He also might be a little bit on the spectrum, but this goes undiagnosed and unnoticed since he's good at 'fitting in' for varying periods of time by putting on a confident act.

  Tyler Lynton can best be described as a humorous softie with a heart of gold, similar to that of a golden retriever. He is surprisingly empathetic for a fifteen-year-old boy, always willing to go out of his way to see the people he cares about smile - especially with playful jokes. Though he most definitely is shy and socially awkward at times, Tyler tries his absolute best to fit in with teens his age, hating that he can't just naturally 'be cool' without having to think about it first.
  
  Being conventionally good-looking to those in his age group and being quite skilled at sports is the only real reason Tyler is able to associate with the popular group, though its obvious that those people wouldn't accept him for who he is deep down. Hanging out with said popular group drains his social battery and leaves him tired of pretending to be someone he's not. One thing's for sure - he'd be far worse off without his best friend, who is one of the only people Tyler can really be himself around despite being the polar opposite of him.
  
  Because of Tyler's past and how his first adoptive family put him back up for adoption after a year by no fault of his own, he thinks that any love and affection towards him is conditional and may change if he does something even slightly wrong, which may be why he feels he can't just be himself around everyone. This is why he pours hours into doing well at school in fear that if he doesn't make his parents proud they'll start to regret taking him in. This trauma has also left him extremely loyal, being incapable of betraying anyone he cares about and putting those he loves above himself.
  
  Though Tyler liking sports and parties is genuinely true, he also enjoys 'nerdier' things like writing, roleplaying and photography - the latter being one of his bigger passions. One thing Tyler struggles with the most is coming to terms with the fact that he is pansexual, meaning he doesn't really see gender when it comes to crushing on someone - liking girls, boys and everything outside of the binary. If his sexuality got out, he feels as though the world would crumble around him, so he represses it. This is the one thing he has not yet told his best friend.

  Rachel Lynton

  Tyler's mother, Rachel Lynton, is a very patient and loving woman. Tyler's relationship with Rachel is good: she treats him exactly like her own flesh and blood. If they had adopted him earlier, he wouldn't have any idea that she didn't give birth to him unless they told him. Despite being close, Tyler doesn't fully open up about the deep things that really bother him such as his fears about being abandoned again and his worries about being pansexual.

  Blake Lynton

  Blake Lynton is Tyler's aunt despite the both of them being the same age give or take one year. Blake and Tyler get on well with each other - she's very protective over him due to his soft nature. Tyler hasn't told her this yet, but he views Blake as more of a sibling than an aunt due to their close age and the way she looks out for him. One thing about Blake that he relates to is having trauma surrounding birth parents, something Tyler sympathises with even if it was a different kind of loss.

  the first part of life

  Born in Sweden as Tyler Svensson to one American parent and one Swedish parent, Tyler only spent the first six months of his life under the care of his birth parents before he was sent to a Swedish orphanage for reasons he'll never know. When Tyler was five he was adopted by an affluent American family who promised him a new life in the US, flying him over to the country to become their son and registering him as a US citizen. The couple's reason for adopting had been because they had trouble conceiving a child of their own and after years of trying, they decided that adopting was the quickest and easiest way for them to start a family.

  halfway through it all

  Just a year after living with his new adoptive family, his adoptive mother miraculously fell pregnant. Tyler had been more than excited to meet his new sibling, but soon enough his parents sat him down for a short and painful talk. They said that they were very sorry and hated that they were doing this, but they couldn't be his parents anymore - they'd finally gotten the one child that they always wanted, and didn't want to have to deal with two. Before he knew it he was back at an orphanage, completely alone and this time in an unfamiliar country. This shattered Tyler's heart and left him feeling as though he could only ever be loved conditionally.

  what happens next?

  To his surprise, when Tyler was nine a young couple came in one day and said that they wanted to adopt him - the Lyntons of Crescent Court. He was extremely apprehensive and shy, believing that they'd soon change their mind just like his previous adoptive family, but the Lyntons showed Tyler an unconditional love he'd never felt before. You can imagine Tyler's fear when some years down the line the Lyntons expanded their family, but even after the birth of his little brother Caden he wasn't abandoned or treated any differently. He still has his fears and pushes himself to be a good kid so they don't regret taking him in, but Tyler loves his family more than words can describe and hopes that he can be a Lynton for the rest of his life.
