I so wanna play Journey's End. I fricking loved the Scarab Bombs, they are the thing I never knew I wanted. Plus all of those QoL features, mmmmmmm

Well I mean, things do get a little more hyped with sandstorms and corruption, but you shouldn't have to wait or corrupt your desert to make a biome interesting.
